A QA testing presentation allows teams to align on new product use cases, troubleshoot bugs or glitches, and fix any issues before launch. Teams can do this more efficiently with Beautiful.ai’s QA testing presentation example.

Pro tips for creating your own QA Presentation

As you use this template to build your own QA testing presentation, keep these do’s and don’ts in mind:

What did you find in your testing? Include any research findings relevant to the feature and showcase them with visually appealing infographics or screenshots.

The QA testing process is based on a new product or feature, so make sure your presentation reflects that. Customize this template by uploading your own visuals for the project that showcase what the group has been working on, and how teammates can test it.

Use a Kanban or calendar slide to make the deadlines and tasks obvious to your team. The modern layout will make it easy for team members to identify what they’re responsible for and when prior to the feature release.

Apply feedback to create a final or further iteration to the QA testing process, and add to your presentation if needed. This will help your team determine next steps and keep the momentum going.

How to Choose a Great Presentation Topic in 5 Steps

120 presentation topic ideas, 5 presentation tips.

How to Choose a Great Presentation Topic. Be novel. Begin with the end in mind.

4. Choose an appropriate presentation style.

There are many ways to present a topic. Your personality, the topic at hand, and your audience’s personas will help you determine which style would best fit you and your audience.

Select a presentation style that will communicate the main idea clearly and have a lasting impact on your audience.

For instance, explore a freeform style presenter by Sir Ken Robinson.

5. Engage with your audience.

Work on your presentation skills to make a strong connection with your audience, get through to them and leave a mark.

Think of the presenter as the link between the topic and the audience. A strong or a weak presenter can make a difference between a presentation being a thriving success or a boring failure.

Hone your skills by engaging and interacting with your audience. Make them feel like a part of the presentation and not just spectators. 70% of marketers have found presentations with interactive content to be more effective than those without.

Here are a few ways you can make your presentation interactive:

  • Start your speech with uncommon questions to your audience. Involve them from the get-go, like ask to raise their hands if X.
  • Make eye contact to build credibility and show confidence. Don’t stare at your slides or notes. Smile occasionally and talk to the audience directly.
  • Have an active and confident body language. Don’t stand in the same place the entire time. Move around the stage.
  • Don’t be monotonous. Speak as you would to a colleague — with enthusiasm.
  • Ask close-ended questions in between to keep the audience engaged without losing time. Address them using their names to keep things interesting.
  • Share personal experiences and stories that your audience will find fascinating and relatable.
  • Practice thoroughly before you present so you’re fluent with the material and delivery.
  • Energy and excitement can be quite contagious. Make sure you exude enough to spread some to your audience.

Feeling Inspired Yet?

Now you have all the right ingredients for choosing amazing topics and a hundred ideas to drive inspiration from. So, go ahead and start cooking presentations that will blow your audience away.

Don’t forget to choose a super-relevant topic and add meaty information. Do it with excitement to make it enjoyable for you and your audience. Best of luck!

How to Make a “Good” Presentation “Great”

presentation topics on testing

Remember: Less is more.

A strong presentation is so much more than information pasted onto a series of slides with fancy backgrounds. Whether you’re pitching an idea, reporting market research, or sharing something else, a great presentation can give you a competitive advantage, and be a powerful tool when aiming to persuade, educate, or inspire others. Here are some unique elements that make a presentation stand out.

  • Fonts: Sans Serif fonts such as Helvetica or Arial are preferred for their clean lines, which make them easy to digest at various sizes and distances. Limit the number of font styles to two: one for headings and another for body text, to avoid visual confusion or distractions.
  • Colors: Colors can evoke emotions and highlight critical points, but their overuse can lead to a cluttered and confusing presentation. A limited palette of two to three main colors, complemented by a simple background, can help you draw attention to key elements without overwhelming the audience.
  • Pictures: Pictures can communicate complex ideas quickly and memorably but choosing the right images is key. Images or pictures should be big (perhaps 20-25% of the page), bold, and have a clear purpose that complements the slide’s text.
  • Layout: Don’t overcrowd your slides with too much information. When in doubt, adhere to the principle of simplicity, and aim for a clean and uncluttered layout with plenty of white space around text and images. Think phrases and bullets, not sentences.

As an intern or early career professional, chances are that you’ll be tasked with making or giving a presentation in the near future. Whether you’re pitching an idea, reporting market research, or sharing something else, a great presentation can give you a competitive advantage, and be a powerful tool when aiming to persuade, educate, or inspire others.

Testing VSCode Extensions with TypeScript

Introduction

Many of the popular Visual Studio (VS) Code extensions like prettier or docker lack any true unit tests, which can be run without the vscode dependency. In fact, in taking a look at many other extensions and samples, nearly all are missing true unit tests. According to the VS Code Testing Extensions documentation , the way VS Code recommends running and debugging tests for extensions is solely through integration tests that utilize a special test instance of VS Code, the Extension Development Host. Extensions can then use this instance of VS Code to write integration and some form of “unit” tests in this environment. However, true unit tests are required for an extension, which should be runnable without a VS Code instance, VS Code provides no resources or guidance in this case. This poses a problem when it is necessary to create production quality code that adheres to strict engineering fundamentals, which require unit tests covering the majority of all components (>90% if possible). This blog will explore potential solutions to this issue and how teams can write sufficient unit tests for their VS Code extensions.

Potential Solutions

Under normal circumstances, relying on a dependency should certainly not be a problem for unit testing; the dependency can be mocked using a number of different frameworks. However, in this case, the vscode dependency does not exist as a normal dependency and is not listed in the dependencies member of the package.json , but rather the engines field . Thus, if the vscode Application Programming Interface (API) is mocked as shown below using normal TypeScript Unit Tests with the Jest Framework , a Cannot find module 'vscode' from 'src/tests/test1.ts' error will appear on the import statement:

To address the above issue of mocking the vscode API while it not being a normal node dependency, there are at least two viable solutions.

Option 1: Wrap the VS Code API

Option 1 is to wrap all methods of the vscode API with different classes, as follows:

These wrapper classes can then be injected into other classes as needed:

Then when unit testing, these wrapper classes can be mocked, injected into the constructor of the unit of code under test, and tests can run without issue since the unit under test depends on the abstraction layer above the vscode API, and not the vscode API itself.

Unfortunately, this means that all calls to the vscode API must be wrapped in new classes and it would not be possible to unit test them since they’d still depend on calls to the vscode API. Care must also be taken to wrap the methods as closely as possible as to not lose or change functionality.

Option 2: Use Jest Manual Mocks

Option 2 involves taking advantage of Jest Manual Mocks to mock the utilized vscode API. Following the JavaScript process outlined in this blog post , the same can be done in TypeScript. All the basic mocks of each part of the vscode API used in the source code can be created and placed in the __mocks__/vscode.ts file:

In the test code, these mocks can then be overridden to provide specific functionality to that test case:

Assertions can also be made against particular mocked items as required:

NOTE: make sure mocks are cleared after each test by using jest.clearAllMocks() in an afterEach block: afterEach(() => { jest.clearAllMocks(); });

One issue using this method arises when a class inherits from a vscode class. Because the vscode API is manually mocked, the base class constructor and members will not exist. A workaround is then needed to test these concrete classes.

For instance, the following excerpt from Microsoft’s vscode source code shows a concrete class that extends a vscode class.

In order to test this class and assert on the this.fire(uri) method in the tests, an EventEmitter “mock” implementation would need to be added to the rest of the mocks:

Other VS Code Testing Solutions

Even though VS Code provides guidance for integration testing using their special instance of VS Code, in some cases this is not enough to perform sufficient integration tests. For example, when it is necessary to get (rather than set ) some data, like a custom context or the content of an information message, from the vscode API. However, both of these cases are not possible, as there are no vscode API methods to get this data. In these cases, it is not possible to complete sufficient integration tests as the ability to verify certain results that come from the vscode API is missing. A potential workaround found was to use an end-to-end (e2e) user-interface (UI) testing framework, such as vscode-extension-tester , to achieve the test coverage desired.

The example below uses the vscode-extension-tester to open an extension’s treeview, check the content, and click a treeview item – all things that cannot be done solely via integration tests in the special VS Code instance.

Final Thoughts

Testing extensions for VS Code poses a lot of challenges. There are not many resources on the topic and often the testing approach VS Code recommends (utilizing the Extension Development Host) falls short of the testing requirements needed for a production-quality extension. This blog post can hopefully help fill in some of the gaps and provided a good starting point for thoroughly testing VS Code extensions.

Next-gen testing

Erica Barnell co-founded the life sciences company Geneoscopy to develop innovative diagnostics and transform gastrointestinal health.

It’s March 19, and Erica Barnell, MD/PhD ’23, knows her company’s position could change dramatically soon. Barnell, co-founder and chief medical and science officer of Geneoscopy , is awaiting a decision letter from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval of ColoSense, the company’s noninvasive, multitarget RNA-based screening test for colorectal cancer.

The innovative home test, which received the FDA’s “Breakthrough Device” designation in 2020, demonstrated a high sensitivity and specificity for colorectal cancer and advanced adenomas in a large pivotal clinical trial published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in 2023. Then in November 2023, Geneoscopy signed a multi-year agreement with Labcorp, a global leader of innovative and comprehensive laboratory services. Once the test is approved by the FDA and other milestones are met, Labcorp will offer it to health care customers, and Geneoscopy will analyze the tests in its CAP/CLIA lab.

And having another less invasive, yet more sensitive, colorectal cancer screening test on the market couldn’t come soon enough. Colon cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer. Yet, the World Health Organization reports that colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer worldwide and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths annually. Known primarily as a disease that affects older individuals, colorectal cancer rates in adults under age 50 have been increasing in the past several decades. Underscoring the critical nature of this issue, the American Cancer Society recently reported that colorectal cancer is now the leading cause of cancer deaths in men younger than 50 years old and the second leading cause of cancer death for women in the same age group. The United States Preventive Services Task Force now recommends that people at average risk be screened starting at age 45.

“There are lots of barriers that prevent people from getting the screening they need,” Barnell says. “Some people live in health care deserts, some aren’t aware of the value of screening or feel anxious about the preparation you must do before the colonoscopy, some don’t have great insurance, and, honestly, some people are just busy.”

Experts agree that more than 90% of colorectal cancer deaths are preventable.

Everyone needs to be screened for colorectal cancer at some point. Over the past decade, noninvasive options such as the fecal occult blood test, fecal immunochemical test or multitarget stool DNA test have been introduced for individuals at average risk. Yet these tests are not as sensitive as a colonoscopy at detecting precancerous lesions, advanced adenomas or the presence of colorectal cancer.

“Our approach is to use RNA, which is a different type of biomarker, where we can maintain sensitivity for colorectal cancer and advanced adenomas in younger patients.” Erica Barnell, MD/PhD ’23

“This paradigm was the impetus for founding Geneoscopy and developing ColoSense,” Barnell says. “The incidence of colorectal cancer in younger patients is on the rise. I saw an article about a woman who was recently postpartum, and her rectal bleeding was attributed to hemorrhoids from pregnancy. She ended up in the hospital with stage 4 colorectal cancer. It’s heartbreaking.”

Barnell sees Geneoscopy’s screening test as a highly sensitive and accurate option to fill a gap within the younger population. She explains that other noninvasive tests that leverage DNA methylation as biomarkers have reduced sensitivity in younger patients, because methylation is an age-related process. In short, as you age, your methylation patterns increase and, therefore, there’s an enhanced chance of genetic and epigenetic alterations.

“Our approach is to use RNA, which is a different type of biomarker, where we can maintain sensitivity for colorectal cancer and advanced adenomas in younger patients,” Barnell says. Across all patients, Geneoscopy test’s sensitivity for colorectal cancer is 94%, and test sensitivity for advanced adenomas is 46%. In the 45- to 50-year-old patient population, ColoSense showed a 100% sensitivity for colorectal cancer and 45% sensitivity for advanced adenomas; for this age bracket, the ColoSense test reported a significantly higher sensitivity for advanced adenomas relative to other molecular tests on the market.

“This is the value of RNA biomarkers,” Barnell says. “Detecting precancerous lesions in younger patients is where ColoSense can provide the biggest benefit.”

Genesis of Geneoscopy

Barnell knew from an early age that she wanted to work in translational medicine, and she can trace the idea for ColoSense back to an internship. While an undergrad at Cornell, where she studied biological sciences and applied economics and management, she’d spend summers at home in St. Louis participating in Washington University’s Advanced Summer Program for Investigation and Research Education (ASPIRE). When WashU states that undergraduates can conduct research with leading faculty, it’s not hyperbole. Through ASPIRE, Barnell worked with esteemed Washington University School of Medicine faculty like Mark Manary, MD, the Helene B. Roberson Professor of Pediatrics, and Phillip Tarr, MD, professor of microbiology and the Melvin E. Carnahan Professor of Pediatrics, developing non-invasive technology to diagnose environmental enteropathy. An intestinal inflammatory disease, environmental enteropathy afflicts children in developing countries. Not being able to scope these children from St. Louis, researchers asked moms from Malawi to send them children’s diapers so they could use the stool samples to diagnose disease.

“That research effort was very successful, and I developed a lot of skills,” Barnell says. “When I matriculated to WashU’s MD/PhD program in 2014 and started seeing some of the gastrointestinal diseases that are more frequent in the clinic here — colon cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and celiac disease — I had the idea we might apply this same technology to these disorders.

While still a student, Barnell leveraged the resources available to her in WashU’s Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) to co-found Geneoscopy.

“The entrepreneurial spirit here is what drew me to WashU’s MSTP program in the first place,” Barnell says. “Seeing numerous inventors, entrepreneurs and physician-scientists achieving remarkable feats is incredibly inspiring. It’s easy to think, ‘I could do that too.’”

Barnell states that being a mentee of Obi Griffith, associate professor in the Division of Oncology at the School of Medicine, whose research to advance precision oncology using bioinformatic tools and computer science, was instrumental to her advancement as a researcher. And she emphasizes that it’s the entire collaborative and encouraging ecosystem at the university that put her on solid footing.

“WashU is a huge powerhouse for biomedical entrepreneurship, and having that infrastructure — the Skandalaris Center — in place expedited my journey and allowed me to form the company.” Erica Barnell, MD/PhD ’23

“WashU is a huge powerhouse for biomedical entrepreneurship,” she says, “and having that infrastructure — the Skandalaris Center — in place expedited my journey and allowed me to form the company, even though my educational training wasn’t nearly complete at the time.”

As a first-year medical student, Barnell went through WashU’s Sling Health incubator , a national student-run nonprofit founded by medical students at WashU to confront unsolved clinical problems.

“At one point, they asked me to put together pro forma financial statements, which I had to Google. Then I called my brother,” Barnell says. At the time, Andrew Barnell, who now serves as Geneoscopy’s chief executive officer, was in the MBA program at Wharton for health care entrepreneurship after working two years in investment banking as a J.P. Morgan health care analyst and two years at Lindsay Goldberg as a private equity associate. “He leveraged some of his coursework to help me, and it soon became apparent that we worked well together,” she says.

Almost eight years into their partnership, the future is bright for the dynamic duo and the more than 50 employees they now have working at Geneoscopy, which is housed in an 11,000-square-foot CAP/CLIA laboratory in the St. Louis suburb of Maryland Heights, Missouri. Together, they’re applying their proprietary RNA-based technology not only to colorectal cancer but to other gastrointestinal disorders as well. Geneoscopy is developing diagnostic tests for treatment selection and therapy monitoring in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) — Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis — in partnership with leading universities, including Washington University, as well as biopharmaceutical companies.

In late 2023, Geneoscopy announced a strategic collaboration with Adiso Therapeutics in Concord, Massachusetts, to support new therapeutic options for patients with IBD. “They’re going through FDA clinical trials now,” Barnell says, “and, preliminarily, we’ve been able to demonstrate the potential to predict which patients are going to respond to their drug and, more broadly, predict which therapy would be most efficacious for a patient with IBD.”

In January 2024, Geneoscopy formed a scientific advisory board, comprising leading physicians in IBD, and they’re providing important strategic input, Barnell says.

“I’m excited to see how we can apply this technology to other diseases.” Erica Barnell, MD/PhD ’23

During initial meetings, they recognized the true value in two aspects of our technology, says Barnell. The first is the potential for Geneoscopy’s technology to accurately assess the severity of disease for patients with IBD, and the second is the possibility of predicting the therapeutic response, which could be a true game-changer.

Barnell says at the end of the day, she’s a data junkie who loves discovering new science, creating solutions and solving problems to improve health outcomes. “Looking ahead, we now have a massive biobank that we can leverage to iterate on the next-generation ColoSense test. We strive to improve our test’s performance for providers and patients – even beyond the excellent results published in our JAMA manuscript,” she says. “I’m excited to see how we can apply this technology to other diseases and possibly other gastrointestinal cancers.”

“I want to keep pushing the bounds of this technology.”

How Donald Trump's hush money trial team is using social media to weed out New York jurors

presentation topics on testing

The Trump trial team has found a powerful weapon in their efforts to come up with a winning jury in his New York criminal hush money case : social media.

Two men were struck from consideration Tuesday after former President Donald Trump 's team uncovered social media posts that Judge Juan Merchan concluded raised concerns when it comes to fairness and impartiality in the trial.

One potential juror posted "Get him out and lock him up" about the former president, after celebrating that a court struck down a Trump travel ban. When the man was questioned about it and said he didn't still believe Trump should be "locked up," Trump flashed a smirk.

"I don't think that I can allow this juror to remain," Merchan said.

The other man who was excused posted a parody video featuring Trump that was titled, "I'm dumb as f---." He also posted "no one is above the law" about Trump's separate criminal case dealing with his  handling of classified documents .

Prep for the polls: See who is running for president and compare where they stand on key issues in our Voter Guide

The victories for Trump came as he faces 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. Prosecutors say the records were designed to cover up a hush money payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels in order to unlawfully interfere with the 2016 presidential election. Trump has pleaded not guilty.

Jury consultant: social media is like a 'polygraph test'

Prospective jurors may not have realized that their social media posts from years ago would be picked over in front of the national media, but jury consultant Jo-Ellan Dimitrius said it's common in high-profile cases in which people in the jury pool may have publicly expressed opinions about the defendant.

Dimitrius, who has worked on many high-profile trials such as the 1994-1995 O.J. Simpson murder trial, told USA TODAY in advance of Trump's trial that social media would be a key tool in evaluating responses to the list of 42 questions Merchan decided on for potential jurors.

"I would align it to a polygraph test," Dimitrius said. "By looking at their oral responses to the questionnaire, and then comparing that to what they may have on social media, you can see if they are being forthcoming, or if they may be hiding something."

There remains the risk that potential jurors eager to get on the jury will realize their social media could be checked and erase things in advance, according to Dimitrius. She expressed concern that Merchan released the juror questionnaire publicly days before jury selection started on April 15. At this point, there is also media coverage of the role social media has played in selection.

More potential jurors are scheduled for questioning Thursday.

"It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out: You're summoned for jury duty in criminal court in New York City on April 15. Well, guess what trial you're being summoned for?" she said.

"The frightening component of that though – and I've seen this in cases that I've been involved in – is oftentimes there is the juror who may go back and delete some of their social media commentary that may point to a different opinion than they're delivering in court," Dimitrius said.

Some New Yorkers survive social media examination

The Trump team didn't get Merchan to strike all the potential jurors they wanted gone based on social media activity.

Merchan allowed a potential juror to stay in consideration despite posting a video on Facebook of anti-Trump celebrations outdoors on a street. Trump lawyer Susan Necheles described the video as "clearly an anti-Trump event that she's out celebrating and partying at."

Before the woman was questioned, Merchan agreed it was an anti-Trump event, but said it wasn't clear she herself was there. Upon questioning, the potential juror said she remembered seeing the event as she was walking outside, and maintained she could be fair and impartial in the case.

Another jury candidate was allowed to stay after Merchan said her posts were satire and she had been fairly open about disagreeing with Trump on politics. Yet another potential juror was allowed to remain after the Trump team took issue with a post by her husband, which Merchan said was from eight years ago.

Getting to stay in consideration doesn't mean a potential juror will actually make it onto the jury. Both Trump and the prosecution have 10 "peremptory strikes" they can use on potential jurors, which allow them to have a jury candidate dismissed for almost any reason. By the end of Tuesday, each side had four strikes left.

Click a heading below for more information .

Add-in categories explained

Active Application Add-ins      Add-ins registered and currently running on your Microsoft 365 program.

Inactive Application Add-ins      These are present on your computer but not currently loaded. For example, XML schemas are active when the document that refers to them is open. Another example is the COM add-in: if a COM add-in is selected, the add-in is active. If the check box is cleared, the add-in is inactive.

Document Related Add-ins      Template files referred to by open documents.

Disabled Application Add-ins     These add-ins are automatically disabled because they are causing Microsoft 365 programs to crash.

Add-in      The title of the add-in.

Publisher      The software developer or organization responsible for creating the add-in.

Compatibility      Look here for any compatibility issues.

Location      This file path indicates where the add-in is installed on your computer.

Description This text explains the add-in function.

Note:  Microsoft Outlook has one add-in option in the Trust Center: Apply macro security settings to installed add-ins . InfoPath has no security settings for add-ins.

Permanently disable or remove an add-in

To disable or remove an add-in follow these steps:

Select  File > Get Add-ins . Alternatively, you can select  Home > Add-ins .
