Short Essays on Practice Makes a Man Perfect in 400 Words

‘Practice makes a man Perfect’ is a famous English proverb. ‘Practice’ means doing a specific work or using one’s skills repeatedly and continuously. ‘Perfect’ is a word that is used to describe something that is ideal and complete. If we do something repeatedly, it becomes easier for us and the chance of making mistakes decreases as well. In life, there are some things that are easy for us to do and then there are other things that are relatively difficult. But no matter how difficult a certain thing is, with determination and hard work, it is not impossible to succeed.

Be it studying, sports, art, music or more mundane things like cooking, baking and sewing, one can learn and improve their skills through consistent practice and hard work. For example, when a person starts learning how to cycle, he stops, stumbles and falls down multiple times. But as he keeps practising, he begins to ride the bicycle well and can go long distances without falling. With even more practice, he learns how to cycle perfectly.

Singers need to practice their singing daily to be able to perform well or else their voice may crack. Sports players like cricketers, footballers, marathon runners, too, need to practice daily. The more we practice, the better we get at it and the more confident we become. Thus, practice also boosts one’s confidence.

Some people are born talented in a specific field but a person who isn’t as gifted in it can also excel if he or she works hard and practices a lot. So, if you want to paint beautiful sceneries but you are not very good at it, learning different art styles and practising them daily can help you paint like a professional.

Practising regularly requires determination and dedication. One who is not dedicated to learning or doing well in his or her field can not keep up with daily practice and is bound to give up sooner or later. Only with strong willpower and passion for perfection, one can go on practising until they perfect their skills.

If you want to succeed and do well in a specific field, knowledge, determination, dedication, positive attitude, self-confidence and practice are all very important. However, regular practice is actually the key to improving your skills and it helps you attain perfection. Practising regularly is a habit that should be developed from childhood. Making children understand the value of hard work and practice is important. It helps them throughout their life.

Practice Makes Perfect Essay

Need to prepare a practice makes perfect essay, paragraph, or speech? Writing such a text might be challenging, whether it is a 3-words piece or a longer story. Below, you’ll find everything you might need to get inspired.

Introduction

  • Stories & Examples

Practice is one of the keys to success. Why am I saying this? Practice, talent and being lucky are equally important. They are interconnected in that one cannot exist without the other. No matter how lucky one is, if no practice is done one is bound to fail. We do practice daily on how to live through our experiences which has a possibility of increasing our harvests. No matter how talented one is, one is likely to forget the basic thing if no practice is done.

Why Does Practice Make a Man Perfect?

Ones’ progress will mostly depend on the frequency engaged in, and the type of outcome needed for improvement which mostly gauges one’s determination. The much practice required depends upon the nature of the activity, and upon the individual due to difference in peoples’ nature and desire to learn and achieve more.

Practice is an important tool to being successful and it helps one’s goal come true. I hoped I could pass the practical test of manicure license. Manicure test had two parts, the practical and the written one, so I had to practice more than 10 times a day.

Practice Makes Perfect: Stories & Examples

Practice influences us all the time.

The newborn baby has to practice in order to walk and speak because no baby is born with the capability of either talking or walking. The baby learns from human beings around them. The baby starts learning step by step. Parents always hold the baby’s hands as they help the baby make small steps.

A baby does have to practice daily until he or she knows how to walk, the baby do fall always however, parents believe that continued practice can help it achieve its goal of walking hence day by day the baby can walk. Parents always worry about its physical problem like falling down and weak legs before it knows how to walk. Finally, they do feel happy and successful after the baby knows how to walk.

Practice makes us to be successful. If you don’t practice, you will fail. It did happen to my friend Yuri. We took the same manicure class at Rosemead Beauty School to get the manicure license at the end of the summer. However, before we got the license we had to complete 400 hours, and then apply for the state board test.

We had to stay for the whole day at the beauty school; morning reading classes, afternoon practical. We practiced manicure in case we had customers in the afternoon but if we didn’t, we would practice on our parents or on our self. Yuri is a Japanese girl, and she is good at nail art design. She passed all the written quizzes; she even took the higher version quiz than us. While we were practicing manicure with the customers, she always did the nail art design.

She loved to make the designs on the nail tip. She had done so many designs although she never practiced the practical test of state board requirement like: tip, tip overlays, wraps, acrylic nail. She was unwilling to practice with customers even though the teacher always called her to practice. She thought it was not hard for her to pass the practical exam. She never came back for practical after she was done with the 400 hours attendance forgetting that one always performs at the level you practice, she was ever at home.

Finally, as we never thought of it, she did pass the written part, but didn’t pass the practical part. My teacher told me that she never practiced that’s why she didn’t pass. She didn’t practice enough before she took the state board test. Yuri was so sad, she regretted, and blamed herself for not practicing. Right now she has to wait for the practical exam again.

And she has to pay the application fee again for the next practical exam. But the saddest thing is that she even doesn’t know when the next practical exam is. She has to wait for unknown period of time. Without the manicure license she can’t do anything like having customer, if she does, she will be jailed. She even can’t find a job. She has learned that practice is very important for success. Right now she practices daily until the schedule come out.

After Yuri’s case, I learned that practice is very important to pass the practical exam. So I have practiced harder than before. I practice more than 10 times daily for my November 15, 2010 state board test. I usually try the acrylic nail first which I am not good at. It’s hard to work on the acrylic nail.

The acrylic nail entails initially placing the nail receptacle on the nail position, second is the combination (of the polymer and the monomer) by use of a brush, then putting the drip at the (nail) line and in the midpoint of the (natural) nail. The bead is then flattened through continuous pressing.

To uniformly distribute the product’s level remains the most challenging thing in this field. After finishing, I always file the nail to shape the free edge and sidewalls to smoothen the surface. It usually takes 30 minutes for me to finish one finger. The state board test only allows 15minute doing the acrylic nail. I will fail the practical exam if I use this speed. I don’t want to fail like Yuri, so I do practice often, right now I only use 10 minutes to finish one finger. I do believe that if I practice more I will pass the practical exam of the state board test.

I don’t want to untimely wait for the retest, and repay the application fee once more. I want to do this as soon as I can so that I can get my manicure license, and look for a job which is am interested to have. I don’t want to work at the restaurant again. With the license I can have my own customer and earn my money from giving the manicure services.

In conclusion, I am not good at working on the acrylic nail, ever warps, and tip and to sum it up am not an expert in manicure. However, I do believe if I practiced more, I can be a genius of the manicure services.

I also believe that to pass my practical exams and obtain a manicure license, I need to practice more because practice makes perfect and this is the only way to make me successful and make my manicure dream come true. I therefore encourage each and everyone who wants to be perfect in each and everything they desire to achieve must often practice.

Sometimes metaphorical and sometimes straight, proverbs teach people about some key values in life. “Practice makes a man perfect” is one such proverb that essentially conveys a mantra for success in five words.

How Does Practice Bring About Success?

Practice, in the broad sense, is an activity that is repeated regularly. We repeat many actions consciously, like swimming, cooking, walking, and more to master them. We are practising all the time, whether we are aware or not. Our brains are constantly absorbing and learning. Sub-consciously we are getting better by performing the same task over and over again. That is where the importance of practice is reinforced. By practising, we get involved in mastering a skill and grow in our profession, studies, or career. There is an element of improvement which inches us to success in every step. Practice is what makes one better.

How It Can Help In Nation-Building?

Every policy and programme rolled across a nation, needs to be practised and worked on, to build the country as a robust force to reckon with. From creating an army to guard the nation to creating employment, practice is needed to develop the nation as a strong force. Children need to learn the importance of learning correctly, and perfection in learning comes with practice. It will enhance their knowledge and skill in different areas. Authorities in influential positions can demonstrate hard work and practising habits and can inspire the youth to do the same. A skilled, knowledgeable, and confident youth will be able to benefit the growth of the country in multiple ways. Practice permeates every aspect of life, from punctuality to cleanliness; each element impacts nation-building. It is more like a ripple effect.

Children need to develop essential skills to learn in life, and it is important to teach them when they are nurturing and growing into responsible human beings. From an essay about practice, your child will learn the importance and the difference practice can make in academics and sports, as these are the two fields that children are primarily involved in during their growth years.

1. How Is Practice Defined and When Should Practise Begin?

Practice is defined as the act of doing something regularly. Practice should begin right at the start of any activity. For example: if a child is studying a language, revising and practising it will help them gain proficiency. The practice could begin anytime, and if continued regularly, it could lead to efficiency.

The process of doing things regularly and achieving discipline can make a man perfect. Practice develops many good qualities in a person like hard work, discipline, tolerance, faith, willpower, dedication, determination, and confidence. It can make a world of difference to one’s life and transform one into a whole new personality.

Practice Makes a Man Perfect: Proverb Meaning and Expansion of idea

The Proverb – ‘Practice Makes a Man Perfect’ professes that when you practice something then you will gain mastery over it. By practice, it means that doing the thing repeatedly for several times. It could be anything like, studying, playing, or anything else. If you keep on repeating the act then you will gain excellence in that particular act or field.

Let’s take the example of a student who has to write an exam after a couple of months. He is particularly weak in math and wants to fare well in the exam. If he practices math regularly, that he will become good in the subject and score well. This is what the proverb wants to convey.

Expansion of idea

The proverb ‘practice makes a man perfect’ indicates that a man can achieve perfection on something if he practices it regularly. The proverb applies to every sphere and is not limited to any specific criterion.

Practice here means an act of repeatedly doing whatever you seek to achieve. It has different meanings for different persons. For students, practice means studying again and again; for a sportsperson, it means practicing the particular sports every day; for a teacher, it means to teach the students, etc. All of these people become perfect in their respective fields only by regularly practicing whatever they do.

That is what being perfect here implies. If you practice a particular thing over and over again, you will get perfect in that particular thing.

Short Stories on ‘Practice Makes a Man Perfect’

A good story written centered on the proverb – ‘practice makes a man perfect’ will let you understand the true meaning of the proverb and the message it seeks to convey. Hopefully, these stories will let you well understand the proverb in an entertaining way.

Short Story 1

There was a boy, living in a village in India. Though he was a hard-working student, he was poor in math. However attentively he listens to the teacher he just couldn’t understand the subject. Everyone, including the teachers, could not improve him, despite their genuine intentions. However, his grandfather, who had also been a teacher in older days, had a plan. The old man was confident that he would be able to make the boy do well, even in the subject that he fears the most – Math.

The old man asked the boy for just one hour every day, not a minute more, not a minute less. In that one hour, the grandfather taught the boy math. But they were much disciplined in following their routine. Come what may, there never missed their session, and continued the same way for months.

Then the exams came. The boy was confused about what to revise as every chapter seems so well versed, thanks to his regular practices. Everyone was surprised when the boy scored the highest marks in math, not only in class but also in the school. When asked about the secret of his success, the boy told that he credits his success to his grandfather. He also told that at the beginning of their everyday math practices his grandfather had told him – ‘Practice makes a man perfect’.

Short Story 2

Once, in Japan there lived a young girl who had always aspired to become a singer. Singing was her passion and that is what she ever wanted to do. She got an instructor who was a much-disciplined guy. He asked the girl to practice on a particular song over and over again, for months, every day. The girl got so frustrated that she ran away and thought of giving up on singing. It so happened that by chance she was eating in a hotel, where a singing competition was going on.

The host asked anyone from the public to sing a song of their choice. The girl agreed and sang the one song she had perfected for months. Her performance was so outstanding that the judge felicitated her and asked who his instructor was? Then the girl realized that his instructor had been a true mentor by making her regularly practicing the same thing to achieve perfection. The girl was no one else but the Japanese singer Fubuki Koshiji.

An example sentence is the best way to understand the meaning of a proverb and its message. I have given below some examples on the proverb – ‘Practice Makes a Man Perfect’. I hope that these examples will give an insight into the proverb and let you understand its true essence.

“A surgeon, who is regularly performing surgeries, becomes so perfect that patients blindly trust him/her with their lives”.

“A pilot has to fly hundreds of hour’s solo before he/she is given the responsibility of a commercial plane because only regular practice makes them perfect enough to be trusted with other’s lives.”

“The goldsmith only perfects his skills through lots and lots of practice.”

“Major Dhyan Chand, the greatest hockey player in history, has made himself so perfect in the sport that he was even called a magician. The ball he chased seems too stuck to his stick. He was able to achieve such a level of perfection, only through practice.”

“Sir Dom Bradman, the highly acknowledged batsman of all times, used to practice for hours every day, during his childhood. He practiced so hard that he had scored his first century at the age of 12.”

The origin of the phrase ‘practice makes a man perfect’ could be traced back to the 1550s. There was a Latin phrase popularly in use – Uses Promtos Facit’ which translates to ‘Use makes perfect’ in English.

Though, it is exactly the same as the phrase but conveys that using something over and over again makes it perfect. Also, the person using that particular thing will get well used to it.

The exact proverb – ‘Practice makes a man perfect’ had appeared in the diary and autobiography of John Adams, an American Statesman, and writer.

The proverb ‘practice makes a man perfect’ is an important proverb in a way that it teaches one of the greatest lessons of life. It fits in for every person who is pursuing his/her dream in any field. The message is simple – if you want to excel in your specific field then you must practice whatever you are doing.

It is only through practice that one will reach perfection and be successful. The phrase is as important for the students as it is for working professionals and businessmen.

Speech on Practice Makes A Man Perfect

“Practice Makes A Man Perfect” is a timeless proverb that holds true in every walk of life. It emphasizes the power of persistence and the magic of repetition.

Whether it’s learning a new skill or improving an old one, practice is your best friend. It’s the secret recipe to achieving perfection and success.

1-minute Speech on Practice Makes A Man Perfect

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today, I want to talk about a simple yet powerful idea – “Practice Makes A Man Perfect”. This means, the more you practice, the better you become. Just like how a baby learns to walk by trying over and over again, we too can learn and improve by practicing.

Firstly, let’s think about learning a new sport, like football. On the first day, you may not even be able to kick the ball properly. But if you keep practicing, you will get better. One day, you might even become a star player. That’s the power of practice!

Secondly, practice is not just for sports. It applies to everything in life. For example, imagine you have to give a speech. At first, you might be nervous and forget your lines. But if you practice again and again, you will become confident. You will be able to give a great speech without any fear.

Thirdly, practice helps us to make fewer mistakes. Think about a painter. The first time they try to paint a picture, it might not look very good. But if they keep practicing, they will make fewer mistakes. Their painting will become more beautiful.

In conclusion, practice is like a magic key that opens the door to perfection. It helps us to learn, to improve, and to make fewer mistakes. So, let’s make practice our best friend. Remember, it’s not about being perfect from the start. It’s about getting better each day. Because practice, my friends, makes a man perfect.

2-minute Speech on Practice Makes A Man Perfect

Today, I stand before you to talk about a phrase we’ve all heard countless times: “Practice makes a man perfect.” You might wonder, why talk about something so simple? But sometimes, it’s the simplest ideas that hold the most profound truths.

Firstly, let’s understand what this phrase means. The idea is that the more you practice something, the better you become at it. It’s like learning to ride a bike. At first, you might fall and scrape your knees. But as you keep trying, you gradually learn to balance and pedal, until one day, you’re zipping down the street without a second thought. That’s the power of practice.

But practice isn’t just about repetition. It’s about learning from mistakes, about improving each time you try. Imagine you’re trying to climb a mountain. Each time you slip, you learn a bit more about the path, about what works and what doesn’t. And eventually, you reach the peak. That’s the beauty of practice. It turns mistakes into stepping stones, helping us reach our goals.

Now, you might ask, “But isn’t talent important too?” Yes, talent is like a spark. But practice is the fuel that turns that spark into a roaring fire. Consider the story of Thomas Edison. He wasn’t born a genius. He made thousands of unsuccessful attempts before inventing the light bulb. But he never gave up. He kept practicing, kept trying. And his efforts lit up the world.

Importantly, practice doesn’t just make us better at tasks. It shapes our character. It teaches us patience, perseverance, and determination. It shows us that success isn’t a matter of luck or talent alone, but of hard work and constant effort. It makes us understand that there are no shortcuts to achievement.

So, my dear friends, remember: “Practice makes a man perfect.” It’s not just a saying, it’s a life lesson. It tells us that no goal is too high, no dream too far, if only we’re willing to keep trying, to keep learning, to keep practicing.

In conclusion, let’s embrace the power of practice. Let’s turn our mistakes into lessons, our efforts into achievements. Let’s understand that the path to perfection isn’t easy, but with practice, it’s definitely possible. Remember, every expert was once a beginner who never gave up. So, let’s keep practicing, keep improving, keep striving for perfection. Because practice doesn’t just make a man perfect, it makes a man capable, confident, and resilient. And those are the qualities that truly define success.

Practice Makes a Man Perfect

Nature in its various forms is perfection in itself. Man or any living being is an entity of this nature where life strives hard to attain or fetch its livelihood. Man has his own means to meet the ends of livelihood. Ends are usually defined as goals in materialist and spiritual form. Materialistic ends like food, clothing and shelter require means like earning money. Spiritual ends are perfection of human qualities which reflects human nature. To meet these spiritual ends, man needs practice as means.

Practice, can be defined as taming one’s mind soul and body to certain activities uniformly aimed at achieving certain requirement more smoothly and satisfactorily. This universal satisfaction in certain achievement can be defined as perfection.

Human attributes like faith, determination, confidence and emotions when complemented with practice lead to perfection when we speak of determination as a human quality. Our memory dates back to mythological era where we learn about the resolute determination of Eklavya who was denied education by Droncharya. In spite of racial discrimination and denial of education his determination made him to learn in front of his master’s idol and this determination complemented with years of practice made him one of the most skillful in the art of archery.

Practice is an exercise and mantra which tunes both our physical and mental entities to the required frequency that leads us to perfection. In this faith is one such kind of cohesie force which brings both the entities together. By supplementing this with planned practice anyone can achieve his goals in more comprehensive manner.

Human beings are ambitious. Ambition compels human beings to practise day in day out to see their ambitions, fulfilled. Practice is one such kind of tool which sharpens human abilities and capabilities beyond their capacities in persuit of goal.

When we speak of confidence as human quality, it is practice which awakens the lethargic potential and induces confidence, so it is his practice which gives birth to confidence and it is this confidence which never reverts back human intention to achieve perfection.

Practice is sadhna , in other words, it is meditation. With this a man can achieve anything in his life and bedeck his life with bed of roses and can become exemplary. Our history is replete with stories of great persons who stand at unreachable heights.

Scientifically practice has been proved to be the only way to achieve perfection challenges can be steeping stones or stumbling blocks but it is just matter of how you win them. So practice is one such bioscope which gives us a clear view of the challenges and prepare us in a right direction to accept the challenges and sharpen our abilities both physical and spiritual to meet the challenges for achieving thumping victory.

In this universe there are very few lucky who are born with a silver spoon in their mouth. They don’t have to strive hard for fulfillment of their wishes. With less practice and by virtue of inherited means wishes are fulfilled, but it is the practice that makes a man recognise his limitations and prepare a suitable practice schedule to attain his goals.

Right from beginning a man has to do many things and assume several posture and achieve several goals. When a child enters this world he crawls towards his desired objects but slowly and steadily he becomes so desperate that he wants to get those objects instantaneously and slowly, he realises that he has to stand up on his legs and walk to reach his goal. This intention compels him to practise walking and, if needed even running which he realises as an improvement in reaching new vistas through which a person can find an answer that is more suitable and appropriate.

To practise is to meditate in hot and cold, good and bad situations, in favourable and unfavourable condition. We can see the society discarding handicapped people who are helpless. It is this discrimination that gives birth to determination for practice. A person with artificial legs practises to walk on his with or without human support and this practice one day. Enable him to even run.

Practice is one such activity that enhances will power of person. It encourages one to accept abnormal challenges and come out strong. Perfection attained through practice can’t be stolen by others.

Practice makes a man perfect it is not a saying. It become true in case of many pre-eminent persons of this world. Today, they say, the reason behind their success is not only continuous practice. So they treat practice as mother to success because practice provides only positive results and it can never be called failure. That is why, some people are often heard saying that due to lack of practice they are unable to perform as usual.

To summerise practice is the child of determination and ambition. In this practice gives birth to faith and confidence and perfection is the illuminate result of all the above attribution. One has to be aware of the fact that without planned and continuous practice, it is not possible to reach to achieve goals. So perfection and practice go hand in hand that is why practice makes a man perfect.

The word, perfect,  here means something like a task well done.

Thus, ‘practice makes perfect’ expresses the ideas that:

  • Practising a lot enables us to do well.
  • Perfection is achieved by repeating an activity several times.
  • We can achieve the state of flawlessness by working hard at that thing.
  • It is important to put in time and effort if we want to get good at something.

This proverb is a very versatile one. It can be applied to both abstract skills such as mathematics and to more practical skills such as carpentry.

This proverb encourages us to keep on practicing even when we are tired. We can achieve proficiency in any field through regular practice.

Working hard makes us more proficient. Hobbies such as music, painting and more take practice.

Habitual action soon becomes second nature. This is something substantiated by everyday life. The more we practice something, the better we get at it.

Practice makes us perfect and we can see the truth of this phrase borne out in many walks of life. Whether we are learning to play a new instrument or learning to drive a car, it is certainly true that the more that we practice the better we will get. You may have found, on the other hand, that if you do not pick up your guitar for a few years or you do not speak a certain language for a while, you get a little ‘rusty’.

Scientific studies and experience have borne out this proverb. One example is the so called 10, 000 hours rule. According to this rule, you can become competent or skilled at something by spending 10,000 hours doing it in a repeated manner. The rule holds for everything from playing guitar to painting.

A little more on the proverb.

This proverb is related to an earlier proverb, ‘use makes mastery’. This means the same thing as ‘practice makes perfect’, however it uses more archaic language. ‘Use’ here means something akin to ‘habit’, whilst ‘mastery’ refers to being totally proficient at something. So, in the medieval times, this was the equivalent of the proverb ‘practice makes perfect’.

The importance of the proverb is highlighted below in points.

1. Encouragement: If we do not achieve such a high standard as we would wish the first time around, this proverb encourages us to keep trying!

2. Appreciating hard work: This is a great proverb to cite when we want to acknowledge how much hard work someone has put into something. Perfection is achieved through hard word. It is rare to get something perfect first time around.

3. Versatility: This proverb is applicable to so many different contexts, from professional sports to playing chess!

4. Accurate: All in all, ‘practice makes perfect’ is a very accurate way of expressing what it takes to succeed in life.

5. A sense of achievement: With its celebration of practice and skill, this proverb encapsulates the sense of achievement that we feel when we have achieved perfection in something. Hence, we can achieve whatever we want – as long as we practice.

Conclusion.

‘Practice makes perfect’ is a proverb that can motivate and encourage us when we want to do well at something. In addition, this proverb helps to console us when we do not get something right the first time around – if we put in a little more practice, perfection is just around the corner!
