Bangarraju Movie Review

Release Date : January 14,2022

123telugu.com Rating : 3/5

Starring: Akkineni Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya, Ramya Krishna, Kriti Shetty

Director: Kalyan Krishna Kurasala

Producers: Akkineni Nagarjuna

Music Director: Anup Rubens

Cinematography : J Yuvaraj

Editor: Vijay Vardhan K

Bangarraju is the sequel to Soggade Chinni Nayana and has been promoted a lot in the last few days. It is the only big release this Sankranti and is out now. Let’s see how it is.

Bangarraju (Nagarjuna) goes to Swargam and keeps enjoying his life. One fine day, his wife(Satyamma) also passes away and joins him in Swargam. She then reveals to Bangarraju that his grandson(China Bangarraju) has become a Playboy and is not serious in life. She forces Bangarraju to go back to earth once again and set things right. If this was not enough, China Bangarraju also has issues with the main villians in the village. The rest of the story is as to how Bangarraju comes down and sets things right.

Plus Points:

The basic festive atmosphere in the film is quite good and is a perfect set for the current Sankranti season. The rural backdrop and fun showcased will be loved by the family audience.

It is so lovely to see Nagarjuna and Chay Akkineni act on screen together. All the fun scenes, songs, fights and emotions featuring them are a major highlight to the film. Heroine Krithi Shetty gets one more solid role and she does well as Naga Lakshmi. She looks lovely in Indian attire and shares good chemistry with Chay.

Speaking of Chay, for the first time he has done such a vibrant character and is very good. Chay dons floral shirts and looks cute in all the songs and dance routine. Kalyan Krishna has showcased him quite well in all the action episodes.

Faria Abdullah, who does a special song mesmerizes the audience. Rao Ramesh is neat in his supporting role. Vennela Kishore evokes a few laughs. The climax fight is superb and has been designed quite nicely and is a treat for the fans and masses.

Last but not the least, Nagarjuna oozes charm in his role once again. This time, he takes the back seat and gives more screen space to Chay Akkineni. Ramya Krishna is also neat in her role.

Minus Points:

The first half of the film is not that great. It starts on a good note as all the lead characters are brought out well. But from there, things get a bit dull.

Even though there was good scope of comedy, the makers missed out on this aspect and added unnecessary songs featuring Nagarjuna and Ramya Krishna which disturbs the flow. The story is simple and has not many emotional moments during this part as well.

Technical Aspects:

Anup Rubens gets a major credit as his music is the backbone of the film. All the songs have been composed quite well and have been shot vibrantly. Dialogues are quite fun and especially those written for Nag are good. Chay Akkineni has been designed quite well. The camera department does an able job as the film is filled with colorful village visuals.

Coming to the director Kalyan Krishna, he does a decent job with the sequel. But the first part, Soggade is more entertaining than Bangarraju for sure. Though he narrates the first half of Bangarraju in a dull manner, the second half is quite good with proper family emotions, drama and good climax.

On the whole, Bangarraju is a decent rural drama with Nagarjuna and Chay Akkineni dominating the proceedings. Even though the first half and story look quite ordinary, the second half is filled with good moments. As it is the festive atmosphere and the film is filled with multiple stars and vibrant songs, Bangarraju will fare well at the box office.

Bangarraju Movie Review: A satisfying sequel

Rating: ( 2.5 / 5).

Bangarraju , directed by Kalyan Krishna Kursala, is a crowd-pleaser in every sense of the term. It's loaded with humour, romance, action and also boasts of fine performances from its lead cast, and truly lives up to the expectations of Soggade Chinni Nayana (2016), which chronicled the journey of a father and son. This time, the core story revolves around a grandfather and his grandson.

The film wastes no time in getting straight to the point - 'Birth and death are for the human body, but not for its soul'. In its opening minutes, a gang of robbers makes futile attempts to plunder the hidden treasure at a temple in Shivapuram. A snake, also the protector of the treasure, strikes back with vengeance and kills all the goons, and submerges the temple.

Cast: Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya, Ramya Krishna, Krithi Shetty Director: Kalyan Krishna Kurasala

In the next scene, we see Yamadutas escorting Bangarraju (Nagarjuna) to heaven as his soul is about to attain salvation. But he has an unfinished business in this village and his soul was sent back to bhoolokam to accomplish it.

Bangarraju’s legacy is now being inhabited by his grandson, Chinna Bangarraju (Naga Chaitanya), who, like his grandfather, charms all the women around him with his smile and swagger. At heart, Bangarraju is the story of two souls, who try to help their grandson get hitched. Over 160 minutes, writer-director Kalyan Krishna Kurasala stages an elaborate drama that is both entertaining and thrilling. Bangarraju is a better film than Nagarjuna's last two releases, even though it never really tries to go beyond its cliches.

Kalyan Krishna serves up a first hour that is light and breezy. Much of its entertainment is mined from the conversations between Bangarraju and Satya Bhama (Ramya Krishna), particularly after the duo decide to set things right between their grandson and Naga Lakshmi (Krithi Shetty), the sarpanch of Shivapuram.

To be honest, the film is peppered with hilarious one-liners, and Kalyan Krishna perfectly captures the portrait and vibe of a coastal village, complete with characters that are rooted in the setting.

The film has its fair share of flaws, with the director taking his own sweet time to establish the characters and conflict in the first hour. The writing is tad generic and doesn't bring novelty in any angle.

Although there’s a lot going on in the film -- a love story at the center, ordeals of greedy relatives, evil motives, supporting grandparents with their own interests -- admittedly the things get interesting only post-intermission.

This being the story of Bangarraju, you know how things will pan out in the end, yet Kalyan Krishna’s script takes a thrilling route to get there. The climax packs a punch and gives a shock value to the viewers. It’s a treat to watch the father-son duo bashing the goons together. Without any doubt, Bangarraju has more zeal and pomp than its first part.

Naga Chaitanya is easily the most unconventional, unassuming actor around. He is someone who could convincingly pull off a love-struck Karthik ( Ye Maaya Chesave ), a wounded Poorna ( Majili ), a struggling Zumba instructor Revanth ( Love Story ), and still make you root for this character. With each film, he is steadily climbing the artistic ladder and is in top form.

It's refreshing to see Nagarjuna having fun on screen. He lights up the screen with his self-assured performance and charming presence. Together, the father and son ooze a mix of cinematic and natural charm with their admirable performances.

Ramya Krishna, who can usually be relied upon for delivering competent performance, portrays Satya Bhama with restraint. Kriti Shetty does a lot better and gets into the part really well. Her on-screen chemistry with Chaitanya is a delight to watch.

Of the supporting cast, Rao Ramesh, Brahmaji and Vennela Kishore are authentic, while portraying Bangarraju's extended family.

Anup Ruben's music and background score accentuate the mood of the film, while Yuvaraj wonderfully captures the picturesque locales of rural Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Overall, Bangarraju is a satisfying masala film, which acts as a perfect follow-up for its predecessor,  Soggade Chinni Nayana .

Nagarjuna scored a blockbuster for Sankranthi with Soggade Chinni Nayana and now again, he is coming to theaters with its sequel Bangarraju. While the original had Nagarjuna in a dual role, the sequel is bringing Naga Chaitanya as Bangarraju’s grandson. The real-life father-son duo last acted in Manam and now with them joining hands again for a Sankranthi release raised curiosity. The trailer looked colorful and with the expected rural backdrop and plots. We already know Nagarjuna as Bangarraju and we have to see how Chaitanya becomes Bangarraju and how well he did it. The movie is in theaters now and here is the review.

What Is It About?

In continuation with Soggade Chinni Nayana, Bangarraju (Nagarjuna) has to return, but to heaven after the purpose, he came on earth, gets served. Sathemma (Ramya Krishna) also reaches heaven after her demise. But Bangarraju will be sent back to earth as Sathemma asks him to put the things right for their grandson Bangarraju (Naga Chaitanya). Except that Bangarraju did not know that he was sent back on a god’s work. Like in the original, the temple’s wealth is guarded by the Bangarraju family for centuries and there are miscreants trying to steal that. Bangarraju has the power of entering his grand son’s body. How Bangarraju sets everything in order, keeps the wealth safe, and how he gets the Junior Bangarraju to get married to Naga Lakshmi (Krithi Shetty) forms the story.

Performances

Nagarjuna excels in the role of Bangarraju senior just like he did in the original. He owns the role with the accent and attitude in every bit. Nagarjuna maintains consistency throughout the film. In Bangarraju, he is more than a supporting character as the main lead is actually Naga Chaitanya. Nagarjuna is flawless with his performance.

Naga Chaitanya tried the ground rural character for the first time and he is good in it. Though he did some lines and scenes with ease, there is still a lot of voids that don’t give us the satisfaction of watching Bangarraju’s soul in him. As Nagarjuna too appears all along as Bangarraju, the comparison obviously arises.

Krithi Shetty is okay as Sarpanch Nagalakshmi who often gets into fights with Bangarraju. She revs up the screen as and when she appears. Her chemistry with Chay works.

Ramya Krishna is usual and so is Rao Ramesh. Vennela Kishore tries to bring some laughs, but his comedy is stale mostly. Govind Padmasoorya appears as a baddie. Rest of the characters are okay.

Technicalities

Bangarraju looks rich and colorful, except that the plot is similar to the original.

Almost all songs are tuned from original folk numbers and some of them are foot tapping. Background music is fine. Editing is good.

There are many mini-episodes in the first half to give strength to Jr Bangarraju’s character, which are completely dragged beyond the limit. The cinematography is neat. Production values are good.

Nagarjuna Colourful Scenes

Thumbs Down

Weak Story Artificial Comedy

Bangarraju is made as a sequel of Soggade Chinni Nayana, but the movie sticks to the original theme with minimal changes. The basic plot of Bangarraju’s soul entering the son’s body in the first part is brought back only this time he enters his grandson’s body to set many things right. Other than that, the baddies attempting to steal the temple wealth and a villain in disguise of a gentleman and many crucial parts remain the same.

The director tried to keep more screen time for the love track of the young pair in lead. The short stories of Naga Chaitanya and Krithi Shetty, like she visiting his house for a family member’s seemantham, Bangarraju’s birthday scenes, he saving a kid from raging bull are all cliched.

The romantic track and the supporting scenes slow down the story to snail pace and disengage the audience. Krithi Shetty’s Sarpanch scenes are passable.

As the original has got a hidden villain like Nasser in the family, the sequel follows the same pattern. Bangarraju jr’s best friend Aadi who is too good to be a good guy hints to us in the first frame he appears that he is up to something, which is a stereotypical thread.

From the opening scene where the thieves try to rob the temple to the sacred thread/ring that stops Bangarraju from entering his son/grandson’s body is all repetitive.

Bangarraju shadowing and entering the body of the junior happened many a time in the film, but it is finally elevating the Bangarraju senior himself. There are many scenes and parts where Nagarjuna comes to Chay’s rescue, be it in love or action, or a conflict. Even as he stays in the background from start to end in a single costume, Nagarjuna unintentionally dominates Chaitanya everywhere.

The climax twist where Bangarraju is helpless is good. The entry of Ramu (Bangarraju’s father) is saving grace for the film. Nagarjuna takes over the climax completely only to show that he saves his grandson, just like he did with his son earlier. The pre-climax action block hits the right chords with masses.

Having said that, the core concept of Bangarraju remains the same as the original with little twists and a romantic track added. With no other big movies around and with the rural backdrop filled with songs and fights, Bangarraju has got a fair chance to attract the crowds and do well at the box office this Sankranthi.

Bottom-line: So So Sequel Of Soggade!

Rating: 2.75/5

Bangarraju review: Naga Chaitanya plays a man child, Nagarjuna his guardian angel in this sorry excuse of a movie

Bangarraju review: this movie, starring naga chaitanya and nagarjuna, makes one wonder what kind of lies some actors have to tell themselves to sign such mediocre movies but, those lies must be more fascinating than the stories they approve of. .

bangarraju movie review

Bangarraju is director Kalyan Krishna Kurasala’s follow-up film to his 2015 supernatural thriller, Soggade Chinni Nayana. If you haven’t watched the first film, chances are you may find yourself a bit lost when it comes to understanding the nature of relationships between the characters in the sequel. It is safe to assume that Soggade Chinni Nayana must have done decent business at the cinemas and the filmmakers wanted to exploit its residual box office potential. Otherwise, there is no reason for anyone to make such a terrible movie. It sort of reeks of desperation to score a box office hit by retelling the worn-out story of a privileged family, which makes a fuss over the smallest of things.

Bangarraju junior , played by Naga Chaitanya , is a typical spoiled brat. Coming from a rich family, he has grown up in the care of an over-indulgent grandmother, and shares the promiscuous gene of his grandfather, Bangarraju senior. Now that his grandmother Satyabhama (Ramya Krishna) is dead, don’t ask how she passed, he sulks and pouts when his house help doesn’t demonstrate the same gentleness while washing his hair. He is pampered to a fault, and it is practically impossible for any man to recover from such an upbringing, and learn to deal with real life.

bangarraju movie review

They say it takes a village to raise a child. But heaven and hell need to be moved before a fully-grown Bangarraju comes of age. So much so that Satyabhama kicks Bangarraju senior, who was partying with the celestial ladies, out of heavens and back to the earth to help her grandson navigate the day-to-day challenges of his life. You see, Bangarraju is still a 25-something kid, and he can’t deal with the problems of an adult.

Naga Chaitanya Akkineni

The first time we meet Bangarraju senior (Nagarjuna), he is playing kabaddi with celestial ladies on a court filled with flowers. He is a single player against five or six girls. Back on the earth, Bangarraju junior has gained a reputation of a skirt-chaser and rightfully so. But, unlike other womanizers, thanks to his good looks, the girls of his village don’t find him creepy at all. The women characters seem to be completely okay with him, playing footsie with other girls, while making eyes at them. For some time, we see Bangarraju with hordes of girls blindly cheering for him. It seems the whole village is devoted to caressing his ego and making him feel good at any cost. There is hardly a man or a woman who believes in the idea of self-respect.

Such films propagate the problematic idea of women as a sort of valuable goods, which is acquired by men who are wealthy, good looking and blessed. The higher the number of girls dying to be with the man, the greater his value. The film adds more layer to its problematic understanding of what are desirable characteristics of a man when all the villagers huddle up and decide to keep the young girls in their family in control because they think Bangarraju is too sexy and girls in their family don’t have enough self-control to reject the advances of a man, who is an established flirt.

Festive offer

And the villain of the piece, oh the horror. No, the bad guy doesn’t strike fear in our hearts, it comes from the way director establishes him. The villain performs a ritual to seek the blessing of the almighty to kill Bangarraju. He screams his wish to murder Bangarraju in front of strangers and friends, only to realise that the sinister plot was a big secret. He then has to kill his friend who obviously heard his rant.

And there is lord Yamadharma Raja and lord Indra, who are kind of biased towards Bangarraju’s family. The gods are so docile that they agree to whatever ridiculous requests Satyabhama makes to them to protect her family. And these are not just half of the film’s problems, there is the director’s over-sexualisation of women’s navels, problematic male gaze, unoriginality, lack of common sense and basic respect for logical thinking and honest storytelling.

Bangarraju makes one wonder what kind of lies some actors have to tell themselves to sign such mediocre movies? But, those lies must be more fascinating than the stories they approve of.

Bangarraju review: A delicious festive feast and what a perfect sequel!

Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya unite for an entertaining socio-fantasy drama which has a distinct rural flavour in spite of retaining the essence of its prequel Soggade Chinni Nayana.

Bangarraju review: A delicious festive feast and what a perfect sequel!

Last Updated: 07.41 PM, Jan 14, 2022

(Chinna) Bangarraju loses his mother Seetha early in his life and grows without the love of his father in a village in Andhra Pradesh. His grandmother Sathyabhama takes it upon herself to raise him well. Despite Bangarraju's supposedly-happy existence and his reputation of being a casanova, he is a lonely soul who yearns for the love of his family, more so his father. His late grandfather returns to earth to give a direction to his life and get him married to a village belle Nagalakshmi. However, an unexpected plot to kill Bangarraju brings a twist to the plot. Is there a happy ending in store?

Sequels are among the hardest films to pull off. You need to offer something new to audiences and yet not tinker with the spirit of the universe and the characters of the original. There's a new section of viewers that needs to resonate with the sequel as a standalone film as well. Amidst a whole lot of challenges, it's safe to say that Bangarraju is probably among the best sequels that Telugu cinema has produced in the recent past. The plot takes off exactly where Soggade Chinni Nayana ends and it has an identity of its own without missing out on all the ingredients that made the former a blockbuster.

The parallels between couples across different generations lend an interesting dimension to the film. If the elder Bangarraju is happy to reunite with his wife in the heavens and continues to be a harmless flirt, there's another friction-filled romance brewing between his grandson (also named Bangarraju) and a village belle Naga Lakshmi back home. If the father came back from hell to sort out his son's marital life in the prequel, Bangarraju is a tale about a grandfather returning from heaven to help out his grandson.

When the grandson is possessed by his grandfather's spirit, a lot of fun is in store for viewers. At several levels, Bangarraju may appear similar to its predecessor but a fantastic, entertaining screenplay doesn't give any chance for you to complain. Veteran Satyanand's expertise truly comes to the fore and helps the film stick to its basics without going haywire. Mind you, Bangarraju is a potpourri of many genres - a complicated mix of horror, folklore, family drama, romance, action and comedy - and it requires experience and clarity to tie up the various threads neatly.

It's also not fair to judge a film of this nature for its novelty. However, what it manages to achieve by giving a twist to familiar tropes deserves praise. The first hour is an excellent fun ride that lets the viewer soak in its energetic ambience and the latter half is nothing short of a mass treat and is designed to please the Akkineni fans. For a Sankranthi release, there's sufficient emphasis on the importance of agriculture, a bull fight and a plot that is essentially about familial togetherness.

Despite all the familiarity, it's surprising to notice Bangarraju's emotional pull in its climax sequence. That's what focused writing and apt casting can do - wonders! It's refreshing to see a resurgent Naga Chaitanya step into the shoes of his father in a typical rural fare and do all the heavylifting in Bangarraju. While Soggade Chinni Nayana capitalised on Nagarjuna's strengths and image as an on-screen casanova, his son proves equally adept in adapting to the energy and the setting.

The sequences where Naga Chaitanya and Nagarjuna come together are the perfect icing on the cake, providing the adrenaline rush of an enjoyable masala potboiler. It's a cakewalk for Nagarjuna to pull this off while it's Ramya Krishna who is yet again the film's emotional anchor. Krithi Shetty's golden run continues with Bangarraju too. She just has the right element of restraint and composure in her performance without making her character look silly. The entire sarpanch subplot featuring her, brings in a necessary comic relief to the proceedings.

The comedians and sidekicks like Vennela Kishore, Praveen and Brahmaji have lesser work to do this time but they manage to entertain while they last. Jhansi, Anitha Chowdary, Rao Ramesh, Sampath Raj and Rajashree Nair pass muster. The film remains chirpy and colourful throughout and the backdrop of the heaven is a visual feast. Cinematographer Yuvaraj's peppy, bright visuals reflect his refined understanding of rural backdrop while Anup Rubens comes up with a memorable, energetic album after quite a long time.

Bangarraju makes for a perfect family viewing for this Sankranthi. It has all the elements to please the masses and gets its priorities right - of being an entertainer throughout. There's not a single dull moment in the film and the reunion of Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya on the screen adds to the spectator's joy. Forget your pandemic blues and enjoy this one!

Bangarraju Review

What's Behind

King Nagarjuna's Bangarraju generated immense interest ever since its launch as it happened to be the sequel for his hit film Soggade Chinni Nayana. The film overcame all the initial hurdles and also the rumors that the project was shelved and finally hit the screens on Sankranti, on January 14,2022 keeping in view Nagarjuna's sentiment. The film increased hype with the presence of Naga Chaitanya in a powerful role. Let us see whether Bangarraju lived up to the expectations.

Story Review

Cardiologist Ramu (Nagarjuna) leaves his son Chinna Bangarraju (Nagarjuna) with his mother Satyabhama (Ramya Krishna), after the death of his wife Seetha (Lavanya Tripathi) and flies to the US. Satya plans to get Chinna Bangarraju married to Naga Lakshmi (Kriti Shetty), the daughter of Ramesh (Rao Ramesh).  However even before she could realize her dream, she passes away and meets her husband Pedda Bangarraju (Nagarjuna) in heaven. As they get worried about their grandson's wedding as he and Naga Lakshmi are poles apart, God of Death Yama (Naga Babu) and Indra has other plans. To find out where this leads to, enjoy Bangarraju on the silver screen.

Artists, Technicians Review

Kalyan Krishna continued from where he left in Soggade Chinni Nayana. He starts off smoothly slipping into the narration with the beautiful proceedings in Heaven where Nagarjuna as elder Bangarraju enjoys with apsaras. The story shifts to the village Sivapuram and from there the narration turns routine with romance, youthful and revenge elements creeping in. Comparisons started creeping in between Bangarraju and Soggade Chinni Nayana and the main drawback is the sequel lacked strong emotions. Everything looked artificial and forced and one gets a feeling that all are passing through the motions. The real twists and turns go missing except for few scenes in the climax where Nagarjuna attracts as Ramu, elder, and younger Bangarraju. Kalyan Krishna's story turned out to be weak and routine except for one twist and screenplay and direction turned predictable thus robbing of the novely.

Nagarjuna performed well in his role. He continued from where he left in Soggade Chinni Nayana. He attracted by his traditional looks and attire. His mannerisms are good. He looked energetic and charming. However, at times his age started showing up. Ramya Krishna complimented Nagarjuna quite well. Their chemistry is a treat to watch. Both of them elevated the scenes. Naga Chaitanya impressed with his performance. He tried a completely different role in this film and emulated his dad Nagarjuna as Bangarraju. Kriti Shetty looked cute with her expressions and performed well in traditional attire.

Naga Babu is fine as God Yama and others performed accordingly. Vennela Kishore, Brahmaji tried to attract with their comedy but failed to entertain. Fiara Abdullah, Seerat Kapoor, Meenakshi Dixit, Daksha Nagarkar, Vedika Darshana Bhanik's glamor treat turned the film into colorful and gave a full feast to movie lovers.

Anup Rubens came with good songs and all the songs are well shot. Most of them elevated in a romantic manner. However, the BGM is good and in sync with the story. Yuvraj's cinematography beautified the film. He showed the village atmosphere and also elevated the glamor of all the young heroines much to the delight of the viewers. The editing of Vijay Vardhan could have been better as there are many drags and repetitive scenes that dragged the pace of the film. Production values are fine.

Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya's screen presence

Kriti Shetty's cute looks

Glamor of other heroines

Disadvantages

Lack of twists and turns

Rating Analysis

Nagarjuna's Bangarraju directed by Kalyan Krishna created immense hype as it happened to be the sequel for Soggade Chinni Nayana. However, with Kalyan Krishna casting Naga Chaitanya in an important role, it diluted the screen presence of Nagarjuna though he appeared in the climax. Many expected out and out entertainment from Nagarjuna just like as in Soggade Chinni Nayana. But with that entertainment from Nagarjuna diluted and routine elements creeping in with a lack of real twists and turns, Bangarraju turned out to be an average fare. But with the beautiful glamor of the young actresses and Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya's presence and rural backdrop, it will attract viewers. Considering all these elements, CJ goes with a 2.75 rating for Bangarraju.

Bangarraju Review – Passable Sequel For Festival

Bangarraju Movie Review

OUR RATING 2.5/5

CENSOR 2h 40m, ‘U/A’ Certified.

Nagarjuna Akkineni - Bangarraju Movie Review

Meanwhile, some people have eyed Sivapuram Temple’s wealth. They can’t get it unless Chinna Bangarraju is out of the way.

Why does Bangarraju (Nagarjuna) come back to earth, and how he helps Chinna Bangarraju, personally and against evil forces, forms the overall plot.

Performances King Akkineni Nagarjuna is in his element playing Bangarraju. It is a role made for him, and that is visible in every frame, with him oozing energy and charisma as only he can. There are no big dramatic moments here. It is a light-hearted part and Nagarjuna breezes through the whole thing.

Naga Chaitanya plays the same character with all its character traits, and then when we see the difference between the two. The difference in the screen presence is palpable. Besides the mannerism that connects to the original Bangarraju, there is nothing else in it for Naga Chaitanya.

Director Kalyan Krishna - Bangarraju Movie Review

Coming to Bangarraju, it is a direct continuation of Soggade Chinni Nayana. It takes off from where the original ended and then moves forward in time introducing Naga Chaitanya as Chinna Bangarraju.

While the village set-up and the festival vibe Bangarraju generates is good, the problem with the movie is also instantly known. It is clear in the first half an hour that Bangarraju won’t have the emotional appeal or connection like the original.

No matter how hard one tries not compare Bangarraju with Soggade Chinni Nayana, it can’t be helped. There is too much similarity and reuse of the space from the original to not think of it.

The predictable beats that Bangarraju follows make it a passable watch during the first hour. The attempt here is to provide an entertainer with little twists in the tale. Unfortunately, there is nothing exceptional in either case.

The second half continues the same pattern as the first. There is a big block dedicated to entertainment and it is followed by mass moments involving the story.

The whole thing works in parts. Some moments designed for the fans are fine, but one can see the extreme predictability even in those bits. The climax is again alright as the seniors, Nagarjuna and Ramya Krishna, do their magic. It is no patch to the original, but considering everything that preceded it, the ending feels fine.

Overall, Bangarraju is an extremely predictable and formulaic fare. It is still a passable watch for the cast, setting and festival atmosphere. Give it is a try if you want to watch some rural backdrop fun and have the expectations firmly in check.

Naga Chaitanya - Bangarraju Movie Review

There are many familiar faces besides the one’s mentioned like Rao Ramesh, Sampath Raj, Vennela Kishore and Jhansi. They all do their parts adequately, but the routine and predictable character arcs doesn’t make anyone stand out.

Final Report:

Bangarraju is a strictly average fare with routine fun and drama. It is a passable watch overall if one keeps aside SCN from the mind and goes in with limited expectations for the festival.

Nag’s screen presence and energy is very much intact as Bangarraju.

— Ramya Krishna is at ease shaking a leg in ‘Vaasivadi Tassadiyya’. Her screen presence adds a lot of value to the whole thing.

— The story is moving at a slow pace through the love track and some routine fun.

— Bangarraju second half started. Naga Lakshmi (Kriti) started to develop feelings for Bangarraju (Chay). Vennela Kishore is getting more scenes now.

First Half Report:

Bangarraju resumes from where it left at the end of SCN. It recreates the colourful festival vibe of the original with eye-pleasing visuals (songs) and charming Nagarjuna’s presence. The flipside is the regular fun and drama, making the first half a passable watch.

— ‘Bangaraa’ song choreography is nice and the set design is colorful.

— The fun track written for village Sarpanch Naga Lakshmi (Kriti Shetty) could have been lot better. It’s pretty routine and ordinary so-far.

— Sr. Bangarraju (Nagarjuna) comes to village for a reason.

— Naga Lakshmi (Kriti Shetty) makes an entry as a Sarpanch for village. The story is progressing in the village.

— The show begins with a colorful song “Laddunda” in heaven. A simple intro for Bangarraju (Chay) followed by the song. The song sets the perfect vibe for the film.

— Bangarraju show started. The story begins where it stopped.

Bangarraju Review U.S. Premier Live updates starting soon. Stay tuned.

King Akkineni Nagarjuna is back with a new outing Bangarraju for Sankranthi. His last release was Wild Dog in April 2021. We have to go all the way back to 2019 when Nagarjuna last appeared in a typical commercial entertainer. The additional bonus for Akkineni fans is the presence of Naga Chaitanya with Nag.

Bangarraju from the first poster and all other promo materials screams a festival outing. It was always intended to have a Sankranthi release, and as fate would have it, Bangarraju is the solo biggie for Sankranthi 2022.

Besides Nagarjuna, Bangarraju features Naga Chaitanya in a parallel lead. The latter is going through a superb phase at the box office, with a string of successful movies back to back. His presence is a significant boost, undoubtedly.

Krithi Shetty now has two successful movies on the trot. With Bangarraju she will be aiming for a hat-trick.

More than anyone, Kalyan Krishna would be hoping for a comeback. His last film was a washout at the box office, but the first two flicks involving the Akkineni heroes were successful. It will be a hat-trick of sorts for him if Bangarraju too succeeds.

The sequence factor and presence of stars, also being the only biggie for the festival – all augurs well for Bangarraju at the box office. The mass family entertainer stars Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya, Krithi Shetty and Ramya Krishna in key roles. Bangarraju hits cinemas all over on January 14th, 2022.

Nagarjuna and his son Naga Chaitanya are teaming up for Bangarraju, the sequel for Soggade Chinni Nayana. The movie is a hilarious rural entertainer that is directed by Kalyan Krishna Kurasala. Ramya Krishna and Krithi Shetty are paired up beside Nag and Chaitanya in the film. Fariah Abdullah, Daksha Nagarkar, Darshana Banik, Simrat Kaur and Meenakshi Dixit will be seen in cameo roles. The music composed by Anup Rubens gained a decent response from the audience. Zee Studios in association with Annapurna Studios are the producers of Bangarraju. The film is releasing in good number of screens on January 14th. Here is the review of the film:

Story: Bangarraju has similar fictional plot as its prequel 2016 hit film ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’. Bangarraju (Sr.Nagarjuna) is sent by Lord Yama (Naga Babu) to the earth on a special mission. At the same time Peddha Bangarraju’s wife Ramya Krishna wants their Grand son Chinna Bangarraju (Naga Chaitanya) to marry his uncle’s daughter Nagalaksmi ( Krithi Shetty) . She assigns the task to Nag to settle the scores between ever quarrelling young duo. Rest of the story is how Nag completes his task

This film is not only a sequel to ‘Soggade chinni nayana’ but copies the same template. In ‘Soggade..’ Nag fixes his son’s love life and in this film it is all about fixing Grandson’s marriage. The first half the film is pretty average as most of it is occupied by Krithi shetty’s village sarpanch thread. Her quarrel scenes with bava Bangarraju are unimpressive. The attempted comedy scenes are failed to generate required entertainment. Even though it is a fictional story few scenes appear illogical. The villainism this time is by the gang which attempt to dig the temple’s jewel treasure. Second half is equally flat if we measure by the script but few mass elements are aptly stuffed at regular intervals. The scene in which Chay saves a kid from an Ox, the climax episodes, and the last song of the film all add to paisa vasool for B C center crowd. Fans will like the scenes written for Nag.

Nag as producer has spent good budget on the film especially for the songs. Songs are the USP of this film. They are done colorfully and appealing to the fans and masses. Anup Rubens music works for the songs

Performances:

Nagarjuna plays triple variation roles in this film with so ease. He definitely walks away with all the credits in the film. Naga Chaitanya looks good but performance wise dominated by Nag. Krithi Shetty is Cute as Nagalakshmi but due to not so adequate characterization, she is unable to make a positive impression. Ramya Krishna role is T fit for her and she is good. Nagarjuna, Chay, Ramyakrishna cast definitely add value to the film.

Positives: – Nagarjuna – Colorful Songs -Mass elements in second half

Negatives: – Lack of comedy entertainment to appeal the regular audience – Very predictable plot

‘Bangarraju ‘is a routine script which is somewhat compensated by colorful songs, Nagarjuna and Chay presence. The attempted comedy hardly brings any laughter, there is absolutely no freshness nor creativity in the script. At Box-office ,Sankranti season might bring some revenue at B C Centers . A decent watch for fans!

Bangarraju Review: Lacks The Required Glitter

Bangarraju Review: Lacks The Required Glitter

Movie: Bangarraju Rating: 2.5/5 Banner: Annapurna Studios, Zee Studio Cast: Nagarjuna Akkineni, Naga Chaitanya, Ramya Krishna, Krithi Shetty, Rao Ramesh, Faria Abdullah, and others Screenplay: Satyanand Music: Anup Rubens Director of Photography: Yuvaraj Editor: Vijay Vardhan K Art: Brahma Kadali Producers: Akkineni Nagarjuna & Zee  Written and directed by: Kalyan Krishna Kurasala Release Date: Jan 14, 2022

“Bangarraju” is the first big release in 2022, and also marks the combination of father-son duo Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya after “Manam”. The film created a lot of hype and buzz with its promotions.

Let’s find out whether it meets the expectations.

Story: ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’ ends with Bangarraju (Nagarjuna) entering his son Ramu’s soul and rescuing him from the villain. This sequel focuses on his grandson Chinna Bangarraju (Naga Chaitanya), son of Ramu. Chinna Bangarraju’s grandmother Sattamma (Ramya Krishna), the wife of Bangarraju, also passes away.

Before her death, Sattamma wanted her grandson Chinna Bangarraju to marry Nagalaxmi (Krithi Shetty). Nagalaxmi becomes president of their village, and Chinna Bangarraju frequently quarrels with her. So, on the insistence of Sattamma, the grandfather’s soul enters the body of Bangarraju Jr to help them get together.. The drama begins.

Artistes’ Performances: Nagarjuna lets his son Naga Chaitanya dominate the show. Nagarjuna has less screen time but gets an impactful presence. Naga Chaitanya is the real ‘hero’ of the film, and he gives a decent performance in a role that needed him to be bombastic.

Ramya Krishna lends her able support in a minor role. Krithi Shetty as a village girl Naga Lakshmi is okay. But her romantic track with Naga Chaitanya lacks effectiveness.

Faria Abdullah and Daksha Nagarkar appear in songs and make their presence felt. The comedy scenes involving Brahmaji and Vennela Kishore are outdated.

Technical Excellence: Anup Rubens has given a couple of hit songs. “Vasi Vadi Tassadiya” is catchy. The song shot on Naga Chaitanya and Faria Abdullah is an eye feast.

The other technicians have put in the very ordinary effort.

Highlights: Nagarjuna – Naga Chaitanya's scenes Songs

Drawback: Routine story Dull first half Cliched narration Lack of comedy

Analysis: “Bangarraju” is a sequel to the 2016 film ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’ that starred Nagarjuna and Ramya Krishna in the lead roles. The sequel also follows the same path. Not many additions have been added to the story. In fact, it is like a rehash of the same story. The grandson of Bangarraju is also a flirt.

In the original film, Bangarraju comes back in the form of a soul to help his son. He does the same, but this time to help his grandson. Even the villain (Sampath) is the same. It is like watching the new version of “Soggade Chinni Nayana”.

But “Soggade Chinni Nayana” had many fun moments. The track between Nagarjuna and Lavanya was entertaining. Bangarraju as a rural Casanova was in elements in that film. "Soggade Chinni Nayana" was a well-packaged family entertainer.

But the latest version is lacking such entertainment. The entire first half of the film gives a feel of a rushed product. The extended comedy track on Krithi Shetty as a village president fails to evoke laughs at all.

Nearly 20-minute of the runtime is devoted to a ‘Veeri Veeri Gummadi’ game between Naga Chaitanya and Kriti Shetty, which is supposed to be a romantic track. Many such scenes tell us that the makers have just filled the runtime with random scenes.

The film only gets its groove when Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya appear together in the frame. Thankfully, the film has its moments in the second half. The final portion saves the day to some extent.

Director Kalyan Krishna has not even tried to package the clichéd plot in a contemporary way. Hence, “Bangarraju” turns out to be a routine family entertainer.

We need to watch out how the festival period would help the film at the box-office.

Bottom line: Tassadiyya!

bangarraju movie review

Akkineni Nagarjuna and his son Naga Chaitanya’s rural drama, Bangarraju, a spin-off to the 2016 blockbuster Soggade Chinni Nayana is carrying good expectations among the moviegoers. Directed by Kalyan Krishna, the film has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it fares.

Story: Opens in heaven, the film showcases the king-size life of Bangarraju and his joyful moments with his wife( role played by Ramya Krishna). Later, the proceedings lead to the entry of Chinna Bangarraju ( Naga Chaitanya) and his war of words with the village Sarpanch Naga Lakshmi (Krithi Shetty). Disappointed with it, Bangarraju along with his wife returns to Earth to sort out all the issues between both of them. This is the time when Bangarraju also notices that a group of people are planning to steal the village temple property and making a sketch to kill Chinna Bangarraju, who is against them. How will Pedha Bangarraju sort out all the issues between Chinna Bangarraju and Naga Lakshmi and save his grandson from the enemies? Forms the crucial crux of the film.

Performances: Nag is simply superb as Bangarraju and pull off the given role in an effective manner. Be it his dialogue delivery or his mannerisms, watching Nag on screen is just an outstanding experience for the moviegoers.

Naga Chaitanya as Chinna Bangarraju is good but his character has nothing much to perform except for imitating Pedha Bangarraju ( his grandfather). His character lacks originality which is a minus for the film but still Naga Chaitanya’s getup as a village guy is good. Watching Nag and Naga Chaitanya together on screen in a feast for Akkineni fans.

Krithi Shetty as village belle is cute and her chemistry with Naga Chaitanya is adorable. Ramya Krishna, who played the crucial role in Soggade Chinni Nayana did the same character in Bangarraju also but her screen time is limited to only a few scenes.

Technicalities: Anup Rubens’ music is a major plus for Soggade Chinni Nayana but his work for Bangarraju is only limited to a few songs. Adding to it, his background score lacks freshness.

The cinematography by Yuvaraj is top-notch as he presented the village vibe in a beautiful manner. Editing by Vivek Vardhan K is adequate.

The production design is good and so is the case with the production values for this star-studded movie.

Analysis: Kalyan Krishna who directed Soggade Chinni Nayana directs Bangarraju. While the director’s idea of writing the script based on Bangarraju’s character is good, he would have worked even more to explore the fresh approach towards Naga Chaitanya’s character.

Soon after the character establishment scenes, Kalyan Krishna would have focused on presenting the comic angle in Naga Chaitanya through Pedha Bangarraju’s role. If he would have written the first narration in a gripping way, the result would have been even better.

To summerize, Bangarraju is Nagarjuna’s show all the way as he breathes life into the proceedings with his charisma and flawless acting. On the flip side, lack of emotional depth and impactful narration can be termed as drawbacks for the film. In box office prospects, the film has high chances to mint solid revenues during this festival weekend.

Verdict: Bangarraju is back!

Rating: 3/5
