Elon Musk Reflects on "Brutal" Relationship With Amber Heard in New Biography

Elon musk opened up about his on-and-off relationship with amber heard after the actress' divorce from johnny depp: "i am often a fool, but especially for love.".

Elon Musk 's past with  Amber Heard is now an open book—literally.

The Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder reflected on his yearlong on-and-off romance with the Aquaman actress in his eponymous new biography  from  Walter Isaacson . As for how Elon summed up their romance, he said, "It was brutal."

Though tech entrepreneur first met Amber after seeing her in 2013's Machete Kills , the book said that their romance didn't take off until four years later, after the she filed for divorce from  Johnny Depp . Walter wrote that their early dates mostly revolved around work—with Amber flying to the Tesla factory in California to surprise him on his birthday and Elon visiting her on the Australian set of Aquaman —though the two did share a passion for the nerdier side of life.

"I guess I could be called a geek for someone who can also be called a hot chick," Amber joked to the Pulitzer Prize-winning author in the biography, per People  and  Vanity Fair , while Walter noted in the book that the 37-year-old once spent "two months designing and commissioning a head-to-toe costume so she could role-play" for Elon, 52, after he told her that she reminded him of his favorite video game character, Mercy from Overwatch .

However, several members of Elon's inner circle weren't too fond of the relationship. The billionaire mogul's brother  Kimbal Musk  described Amber as "toxic" and "a nightmare" in the biography, adding that Elon tends to fall for people who are "beautiful, no question, but they have a very dark side."

His response? "Because I'm just a fool for love," Elon told his biographer. "I am often a fool, but especially for love."

And after he and Amber  called it quits for good  in 2017, Elon recalled enduring "18 months of unrelenting insanity" that was "mind-bogglingly painful."

Still, the former couple is on good terms these days. "I love him very much," Amber said in the biography, adding, "Elon loves fire, and sometimes it burns him."

In the past, Elon has also shared kind words about his ex. "Although Amber and I did break up, we are still friends, remain close and love one another," he  shared on Instagram  August 2017. "Long distance relationships when both partners have intense work obligations are always difficult, but who knows what the future holds." 

Last year, he also shared his well wishes for Amber  shortly before she was found liable for defaming her ex-husband Johnny in a jury trial in Virginia. "I hope they both move on," he wrote on X (formerly Twitter), the social media site he purchased in 2022 . "At their best, they are each incredible."

E! News has reached out to Amber and Elon's reps for comment but hasn't heard back.

Elsewhere in the book, Kimbal questions his brother’s taste in partner’s and tells Isaacson it’s “very sad” that the Tesla founder “falls in love with these people who are really mean to him.” He said: “They’re beautiful, no question, but they have a very dark side and Elon knows that they’re toxic.”

As for Musk’s thoughts on his relationships, he laughed and told Isaacson, “I’m just a fool for love. I am often a fool, but especially for love.”

Elon Musk's biographer says 'nothing hurt him more' than his relationship with Amber Heard

Elon Musk's biographer said the billionaire's relationship with the actor Amber Heard hurt him the most — even more than Musk's fraught relationship with his father .

"The storm and turmoil that both sides tell me about, this is not a matter of dispute, that was part of the attraction," Walter Isaacson said on the latest episode of the "On With Kara Swisher" podcast . "Part of the theme of this life is this person is attracted to drama and storm. When things are calm, he surges — he buys Twitter or whatever. So, this is true of the relationship with Amber. Nothing hurt him more than that relationship."

Musk and a lawyer for Heard did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Musk and Heard dated on and off after bonding at the 2016 Met Gala. They took their relationship public in April 2017 before announcing their breakup a few months later. They continued seeing each other after their split before breaking up again in 2018.

Isaacson spent two years shadowing Musk for the biography, which hit shelves last week.

The book described a "psychological turmoil" in many of Musk's romantic relationships. It recounted Musk's and Heard's first meeting: She asked if she could visit SpaceX a year after the two worked on the action film "Machete Kills," Heard as a star and Musk as a consultant.

Isaacson also documented the explosive fights in their relationship, writing, "She and Musk would stay up all night fighting, and then he would not be able to get up until the afternoon."

In the biography, Heard said she loved Musk "very much" but that "Elon loves fire and sometimes it burns him."

When Isaacson asked Musk to explain his tumultuous romantic history, the billionaire replied, "I am often a fool, but especially for love."

The Canadian musician Grimes, Musk's ex with whom he shares three children, told Isaacson for the biography that Musk "associates love with being mean or abusive" in part because of his relationship with his father, Errol Musk.

Musk has said his father bullied and demeaned him throughout his childhood. In 2017, he told Rolling Stone his father was a "terrible human being" who had done "almost every evil thing you could possibly think of."

Errol Musk has denied berating his son.

Musk's first wife, Justine Wilson , to whom he was married from 2000 to 2008, has spoken about their relationship.

"There is a combative element to him," she told Isaacson. "I don't think you can be in a relationship with Elon and not argue."

"When you're from a dysfunctional background or have a brain wired like his," Wilson told Isaacson, "intensity takes the place of intimacy."

Amber Heard famously dated Elon Musk, and his new biography pulls the curtain back on their relationship.

It may be hard to believe it, but it’s been almost a full year since a verdict was reached in Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s defamation case . The pair of actors made countless headlines as they clashed in court, and made serious allegations against each other. But Depp wasn’t the only high profile relationship that’s been surrounding the Aquaman actress, as she also had a notable connection with Elon Musk . Musk’s bombshell biography commented on Heard, and the author calls that period “hellacious” and more. Let’s break it all down.

Musk’s new biography was written by Walter Isaacson, and is appropriately titled Elon Musk . Reviews have started rolling in, and excerpts are already circulating online. The LA Times pulled quotes related to Musk’s relationship with Heard , and they’re sure to quickly go viral. The book alleges that from the summer of 2018 to the fall of 2018 it was a “hellacious” part of his life, which is the period of time he was involved with the 37 year-old actress. The book describes his mental state during this time with:

Musk went through periods when he oscillated between depression, stupor, giddiness, and manic energy.

According to Issacson, this mental state occurred thanks to familial issues, as well as his now infamous relationship with Amber Heard . She had only recently split from Johnny Depp during this time (see a timeline of Heard and Depp’s relationship here ). As we know, Musk would end up getting involved in their litigation, and famously challenged Depp to a cage fight .

Later in that book (via the LA Times), writer Walter Isaacson addressed Elon Musk and Amber Heard ’s relationship, and made some allegations about how the pair functioned. The biography pulls no punches, and claims that Heard…

drew [Musk] into a dark vortex that lasted more than a year and produced a deep-seated pain that lingers to this day. … His brother and friends hated her with a passion.

Well, there you have it. Assuming that this information is true, it paints a picture of what it was like when Amber Heard and Elon Musk were romantically involved. There have been a number of wild rumors about that time, with Musk even denying a 3-way relationship with Heard and Cara Delevigne. We’ll just have to see if the new biography helps to quell certain rumors or begins new ones entirely. The former couple has continued to make headlines, like when Heard deleted her Twitter when Musk took over .

As previously mentioned, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard absolutely dominated the new cycle when they were facing off in court, partly because the public could watch it all go down on TV . In the end Depp was largely the victor in court, and both actors would go abroad to live their lives with some anonymity. As for Elon Musk, he eventually took over Twitter (aka X) and has been making sweeping changes to the social media outlet.

More than a year after her defamation legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp ended, Amber Heard’s love life is back in the news. This time, it’s her history with Elon Musk, whom she dated between 2017 and 2018, that’s making headlines.

Walter Isaacson, former Time editor and CNN chair, explores Heard and Musk’s relationship in his new biography “Elon Musk,” which Simon & Schuster is releasing tomorrow.

Isaacson reports in the book that Heard caught Musk’s interest with her role in the 2013 film “Machete Kills” and met him a year later when she visited a SpaceX facility, according to People.

During their happier times, Heard hosted Musk on the Australia set of “Aquaman” in April 2017, and she commissioned a costume to “roleplay” Mercy from “Overwatch,” a video game character that reminded him of her, the book adds.

But the biography details unhappy times, too, including a fight they had while on vacation in South America in December 2017, which Heard confirmed in the book.

Musk told Isaacson that his and Heard’s relationship was “brutal.”

Heard, for her part, said that Musk “loves fire, and sometimes it burns him.” She did add, however, that she “very much” still loves him.

Heard “drew [Musk] into a dark vortex” that “lasted more than a year and produced a deep-seated pain that lingers to this day,” Isaacson writes, according to the Los Angeles Times. “His brother and friends hated her with a passion.”

Kimbal Musk, Elon’s brother, said in the book that it’s “really sad” that the Tesla CEO “falls in love with these people who are really mean to him,” per People.

He added, “They’re beautiful, no question, but they have a very dark side and Elon knows that they’re toxic.”

Isaacson also asked Elon why he dates such people. “Because I’m just a fool for love,” the billionaire replied. “I am often a fool, but especially for love.”

Heard, who will next be seen in the sequel film “Aquaman and the lost Kingdom,” previously reflected on her relationship with Musk in a 2018 interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“Elon and I had a beautiful relationship, and we have a beautiful friendship now, one that was based on our core values,” she said at the time. “Intellectual curiosity, ideas and conversation, a shared love for science. We just bonded on a lot of things that speak to who I am on the inside. I have so much respect for him.”

Elon Musk is taking a trip down memory lane.

In a new biography on the SpaceX founder, Musk reflected on his yearlong on-again, off-again romance with Amber Heard.

But that's not all, as biographer Walter Isaacson also revealed that the "Aquaman" actress once spent "two months designing and commissioning a head-to-toe costume so she could role-play" after he told her that she reminded him of his favorite video game character, Mercy from "Overwatch."

Now, not only has Musk confirmed that was the case, sharing that " it was awesome ," the Tesla CEO also posted a throwback photo of Heard in her full "Overwatch" ensemble—which included a white bodysuit, mechanical wings and a gold halo headpiece—to X (formally known as Twitter) Sept. 13.

The pic from the past comes just days after the eponymous book was released, in which Heard, 37, also takes a look back at her relationship with Musk, 52.

"I guess I could be called a geek for someone who can also be called a hot chick," she told Isaacson per Vanity Fair , noting that despite their split, she loves him "very much."

Indeed, Musk shared in his biography that he's "just a fool for love," describing their romance as "brutal." He also recalled the period after their 2017 breakup as being "18 months of unrelenting insanity" that was "mind-bogglingly painful."

The tech mogul confirmed his split from the "Machete Kills" star that August, assuring social media users that the two were "still friends, remain close and love one another."

"Long distance relationships when both partners have intense work obligations are always difficult," he wrote in an Instagram post at the time, "but who knows what the future holds."

As for Heard—who dated Musk after filing for divorce from Johnny Depp —she expressed a similar sentiment, writing in her own Instagram post, "Although we have broken up, Elon and I care deeply for one another and remain close."

Most recently, tech entrepreneur proved they continue to remain on good terms, publicly sharing his well wishes for Heard shortly before she was found liable for defaming her ex-husband Depp. "I hope they both move on," Musk wrote on X in May 2022 , days prior to the verdict. "At their best, they are each incredible."

Elon Musk ’s new biography claims that he and Amber Heard ’s whirlwind relationship was a ‘dark vortex’ with lingering pain to this day.

The 52-year-old shared he was seeing the Aquaman star in April 2017 after her public split from Johnny Depp , 60, which resulted in a massive legal battle .

They dated on-and-off for a year until they parted ways for good in 2018, when he confirmed a relationship with musician Grimes , 35, with whom he has three children.

Musk is rumoured to have been pursuing Heard, 37, since 2013 when she appeared in Machete Kills but their relationship ended up being ‘brutal’.

Biography writer Walter Isaacson claims the Tesla CEO was drawn ‘into a dark vortex’ around the time they made things official.

He added: ‘That lasted more than a year and produced a deep-seated pain that lingers to this day.’

According to The Los Angeles Times , Isaacson further claimed that Musk’s ‘brother and friends hated her with a passion’ and described it as a ‘hellacious’ period.

They apparently met in 2014, when Heard went to SpaceX for a tour and was given a private drive in the founder’s Tesla.

The Magic Mike XXL actress was reportedly fascinated by the tech mogul, and told the biography writer: ‘I guess I could be called a geek for someone who can also be called a hot chick.’

During their relationship, Musk is said to have flown out to Australia to visit Heard while she filmed the DC hero film.

In a more intimate story, Heard ordered a costume to ‘roleplay’ as an Overwatch character which the Twitter owner said she looked like.

Things weren’t all good though as the couple apparently had a major argument while on a trip to South America with the family in late 2017.

She admitted that there was an argument but shared pictures and videos of the pair all loved up as they had a New Year’s kiss.

Heard had divorced Depp the year before, citing domestic abuse as a reason for the split and gaining a restraining order.

This began a series of legal trials, the first of which saw Depp sue The Sun Newspaper and it’s parent company for calling him a ‘wife beater’ but lost as ‘the great majority of alleged assaults had been proved to the civil standard’.

Following this case, Depp sued Heard for defamation following her article in the Washington Post titled I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.

Depp alleged that Heard abused him instead and her claims had been a ‘hoax’, this trial was highly publicised with a messy fallout, impacting both actor’s careers.

Eventually, in 2022, the case was settled after a verdict in Depp’s favour which Heard argued was unfair due to the public perception of them both.

Kimbal Musk, Elon’s brother, said his brother ‘falls in love with these people who are really mean to him’, calling it ‘very sad’.

The chef added: ‘They’re beautiful, no question, but they have a very dark side and Elon knows that they’re toxic.’

Isaacson claims that the SpaceX founder admitted the relationship ‘was brutal’ while Heard confessed she still loves him ‘very much’.

The Danish Girl actress added: ‘Elon loves fire, and sometimes it burns him.’

Aware of his own downfalls, Musk said: ‘I’m just a fool for love. I am often a fool, but especially for love.’

Elon Musk is opening up like never before in a new biography that's creating headlines.

In the much-anticipated release, titled  Elon Musk ,  author Walter Isaacson is revealing new details about the billionaire entrepreneur's childhood, his relationships with former wives and girlfriends, and his children.

According to publisher Simon & Schuster , Isaacson, who previously wrote a biography of Steve Jobs, spent two years shadowing and interviewing Musk himself as well as speaking with his family, friends and colleagues.

Musk Was Intellectually Curious from a Young Age but Struggled in School

When the South African-born Musk was 3,  Maye Musk , his mother, felt that he should attend nursery school as he was intellectually curious. She later got her way despite misgivings from the principal that Musk, due to his young age, might not be able to handle the social challenges. Later, when he was in the second grade, Musk developed a tendency to zone out, prompting the principal to tell his parents at a meeting, "We have reason to believe that Elon is retarded." (This term was widely used during the general timeframe this incident would have happened.)

Even after having his adenoids removed as a solution to what his parents decided was an ear problem, Musk still retreated into his own world. As he said in  Elon Musk : "Ever since I was a kid, if I start to think about something hard, then all my sensory systems turn off. I can’t see or hear anything. I’m using my brain to compute, not for incoming information."

Unlike his  brother Kimbal and sister Tosca , Musk, now 52, was described as a lonely child growing up who had a hard time making friends. He also said that he had Asperger’s syndrome, which resulted in his inability to pick up social cues. "He was never actually diagnosed as a kid," Maye said in the book, "but he said he has Asperger's, and I'm sure he's right."

Musk Told First Wife at Their Wedding Reception That He Was the ‘Alpha’

At his wedding to his first wife,  Justine Musk  in 2000, the couple had their first dance and shared a kiss. During that dance, according to the book, Musk whispered in her ear: "I am the alpha in this relationship."

This echoed comments Justine made in an essay for  Marie Claire   in 2010.

"There were warning signs," she wrote. "As we danced at our wedding reception, Elon told me, 'I am the alpha in this relationship.' I shrugged it off, just as I would later shrug off signing the postnuptial agreement, but as time went on, I learned that he was serious."

Their first child, son Nevada Alexander, died at 10 weeks old from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). They went on to welcome twins Vivian Jenna Wilson and Griffin, as well as triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian, before separating in 2008.

Musk Didn't Have a Ring When He Proposed to Talulah Riley — So They Shook On It

Following his breakup with his first wife, Musk traveled to London in July 2008 to deliver a speech at the Royal Aeronautical Society, per the book. While hanging out at a nightclub, the SpaceX founder spotted the British actress  Talulah Riley coming in. The pair hit it off, and Musk then asked Riley if he could put his hand on her knee and then requested her phone number. 

The two spent time together for the next three days, and Musk later invited her to Los Angeles at the end of his U.K. trip. She later visited Musk in L.A. and at the end of the trip, he proposed. He didn’t have a ring at the time, so the couple just shook hands on it, per the book.

Musk and Riley married in Scotland in 2010  and divorced two years later. The couple later reconciled and wed for the second time in July 2013 — only to split up once again in 2014 when Musk filed a divorce petition that was later withdrawn. Riley then filed for divorce in March 2016, which was later finalized in November. 

Musk Called Relationship with Ex Amber Heard 'Brutal' as Actress Said He 'Loves Fire'

In the book, the SpaceX founder and Tesla CEO and  Amber Heard , 37, open up about their romance, with which they went official in April 2017. The pair dated on and off in the months that followed before breaking up for good in 2018.

Some of the book’s tidbits about Musk and Heard’s relationship included the time the actress surprised Musk on his birthday in June 2016 by popping out with flowers from the back of a Tesla and that she developed a costume that she could role-play in after Musk said she reminded him of a character from the  Overwatch  video game.

But the romance wasn’t without turmoil. Of their relationship, Musk said in the biography, "It was brutal." For her part, Heard told Isaacson that she still loves her ex "very much," and added: "Elon loves fire, and sometimes it burns him."

Asked by Isaacson  why he falls for  these types of people, Musk replied, "I'm just a fool for love. I am often a fool, but especially for love."

He Was Once Found in 'Comatose State' Prior to Tesla Earnings Call

The new biography described the difficult period Musk experienced in his personal life between 2017 and 2018.

Isaacson wrote about a 2017 episode in which then-Tesla president Jon McNeill found Musk lying on a conference room floor with the lights off before the billionaire was scheduled to go on a Tesla earnings call with analysts. It took about 30 minutes to get Musk to move.

“He came from a comatose state,” McNeill said of his boss in the book, “ to a place where we could actually get him in the chair, get other people in the room, get him through his opening statement, and then cover for him.” After that ordeal was over, Musk said he needed to lie down and shut off the lights – a scenario that would later repeat itself five or six times, according to McNeill. 

Tesla did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment. 

Musk Helped Conceive the Dress Grimes Wore to 2018 Met Gala — and Got a Tesla Employee to Work on Idea

Musk’s relationship with Canadian musician Claire Boucher, who goes by the moniker Grimes,  became public in 2018 when they appeared at the Met Gala that year.

As told in Isaacson’s book, the two met when Musk was in an elevator with Heard. Following an exchange on X (the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, which Musk now owns), Musk invited Grimes, 35, to his factory in Fremont, California, as part of a date.

Not only was Musk an innovator when it came to car manufacturing and space technology, but he also played a role in the design of the musician's dress for the Met Gala in 2018 — suggesting, according to the book, “a medieval-punk black-and-white ensemble with a hard glass corset and a necklace made of spikes that resemble the Tesla logo .” He went so far as to bring on a Tesla design employee to work on the idea.

Musk Sent Around Photo of Grimes as She Was Having C-Section with Son X

Musk snapped a photo of Grimes as she was having a C-section with X Æ A-Xii and sent it around to their friends and family, including the musician's father and brothers, according to the book.

The move frustrated the singer. "He was just clueless about why I'd be upset," Grimes told Isaacson.

In the book, Isaacson also revealed that the couple used in vitro fertilization to help them conceive .

"Musk and Grimes, who conceived [X] through in vitro fertilization, had planned to have a girl, but the fertilized egg that got implanted, as they were preparing to go to Burning Man in 2019, turned out to be male," Isaacson wrote.

The billionaire has opened up about the rift between him and his 19-year-old daughter, who was granted permission to legally change  her name to Vivian Jenna Wilson in 2022. At the time, the judge also recognized her gender as female and ruled for the issuance of a new birth certificate to reflect the changes, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

According to court documents, she said the change was due to "Gender Identity and the fact that I no longer live with or  wish to be related to my biological father in any way , shape or form." 

According to Elon Musk , Jenna developed a hatred for wealth and capitalism and clashed with her father, often saying to him: “I hate you and everything you stand for.”

Musk had previously stirred controversy on X over his opinions on preferred pronouns for transgender and nonbinary people. In July 2020, Musk tweeted , "Pronouns suck." Then in December of that year, after being criticized for an earlier tweet of his that appeared to mock the use of preferred pronouns, he posted on Twitter : “I absolutely support trans, but all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare. “

In Isaacson’s book, Musk said that his disagreements with Jenna intensified when she became a “full communist” who thought that “anyone rich is evil.” He also partly blamed a “progressive woke indoctrination” that infiltrated a Los Angeles private school that Jenna attended. “I’ve made many overtures,” Musk said in the book, “but she doesn’t want to spend time with me .”

Dad Errol Revealed He Fathered Second Child with Former Stepdaughter on Father's Day

According to Isaacson’s biography,  Elon’s dad, Errol Musk,  revealed to his son on Father's Day 2022 that he fathered a second child  with his former stepdaughter, Jana Bezuidenhout.

"The only thing we are on Earth for is to reproduce. If I could have another child I would," Errol, a dad of seven, wrote, per the book. "I can't see any reason not to."

In July 2022, Errol, who was 76 at the time, said in an interview with  The Sun  that he and Bezuidenhout had a second child in 2019, two years after the birth of their son, Elliot Rush.

In a 2018 interview with the U.K.'s  Sunday Times ,  Errol said he and Bezuidenhout began their relationship while he  helped her get over a breakup,  and that he did not consider Bezuidenhout to be his stepdaughter, claiming she spent most of her time away from the family while growing up.

Musk Said He 'Wants Smart People to Have Kids'

According to Isaacson’s book, Musk — a father of 11 — has said it's important for people to have many kids due to his concerns that declining birth rates would be detrimental to the “survival of human consciousness."

Shivon Zilis, an executive at Musk’s company Neuralink, said in the new biography that Musk also motivated her to have children. “He really wants smart people to have kids , so he encouraged me to," she said in the book.

Although Zillis initially planned on using an anonymous sperm donor, Musk later suggested that he could be the donor, which she agreed to. Their twins, Strider Sekhar Sirius and Azure Astra Alice, were conceived through in vitro fertilization.

Musk and Grimes Quietly Welcomed Third Baby, Son Techno Mechanicus

The new biography revealed that Musk and Grimes  welcomed their third child , son Techno Mechanicus, who also goes by "Tau," in June 2022.

The nickname is based on the Greek letter that represents the number value of pi twice, which is about 6.28, which is the date of Musk’s birthday on June 28. 

The former couple kept the birth of Tau a secret. Isaacson also wrote that when Musk visited Grimes’ house two months after Tau’s birth, he sat on the floor and fed baby food to his new son. As Grimes recalled in the book: “Tau is so amazing. He came out with eyes that could just see so deeply into your soul, with so much knowledge. He looks like a little Spock. He’s definitely Vulcan.”

Representatives for both Musk and Grimes did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's requests for comment.

Amber Heard shakes off  the season’s first snowflakes as she walks into Bauman Rare Books, a shop on New York’s Upper East Side that keeps its front door locked as it specializes in highly collectible, extremely pricey first editions. The Texas native isn’t exactly dressed for the mini blizzard rocking the city. Wearing a black velvet suit with gold lions, gold turtleneck and black patent leather shoes, her hair is wet — not unlike when Heard makes her first appearance as superheroine Mera in Aquaman — after walking the last few blocks without a hat. The 32-year-old actress is carrying a new copy of Meg Wolitzer’s The Female Persuasion (she picked it up right before our meeting while visiting her agent at WME) but is eyeing a first edition of Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged . She knows it’s a first edition because the book is dedicated to Rand’s husband, Frank O’Connor, and her lover, Nathaniel Branden. Heard whispers conspiratorially that Rand removed Branden from later editions after he dumped her.

Though she lives in Los Angeles, the shopkeepers here know her, having sold Heard books in the past. To give me a quick visual, she whips out her phone to show pictures of the stacks of books that line the walls of every room in her home.

“You might have read Huckleberry Finn , but what’s amazing is that this book has its story, too,” she says, pointing to a Mark Twain first edition. “Think of the rooms it was in, the conversations that happened around it, the hands that it’s lived in. I love the smell especially.”

If I’m taken aback by the fact that a high school dropout deemed the most beautiful woman in the world by a scientific algorithm can recite the literary classics like a savant, speaks fluent Spanish, is the first American actress to be named Human Rights Champion of the UN Human Rights Office (alongside Nobel Peace Prize winner Nadia Murad) and hangs with fellow Rand aficionado Elon Musk, I’m not alone.

“I don’t know why I am surprised, but she is such a well-read person,” says Aquaman director James Wan. “In between takes, every time I saw her she would have just finished a big thick book and was on to a new thick book.”

With Heard, perhaps it’s too easy to judge the book by its cover.

As 2018 comes to a close, the actress finds herself at a crossroads. Over the past two years, she has withstood one of the most contentious Hollywood divorces (she’s legally barred from discussing ex Johnny Depp thanks to their settlement ), rebounded with a tabloid-friendly romance with the enigmatic Musk (they called it quits in August 2017) and now is single (“I’m in a relationship with me”).

But her thus far uneven career is poised to take off with Aquaman , marking her first female lead in a studio film. The stakes are huge for the movie, which cost $200 million and is Warner Bros.’ first Justice League stand-alone since 2017’s Wonder Woman . The studio is taking the unconventional approach of opening the film first in China, two weeks before it bows Dec. 21 in the U.S.

According to strong early tracking, the film is expected to earn an impressive $65 million in its domestic debut and top Mary Poppins Returns and Transformers spinoff Bumblebee . That number gave Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich enough confidence to begin talks on a sequel (though no writer has been commissioned yet). Heard, who sources say earned a low-seven-figure salary, would see that payday balloon.

After making her entrance, Mera appears in nearly every scene in the film. “Amber and I would always joke that the movie should be called The Adventures of Mera With Her Sidekick Aquaman ,” says Wan. “She has way more superpowers.”

Momoa made sure to assert his dominance off-camera, albeit with a prank.

“She stepped away, and I ripped out the last 10 pages of her 800-page book, like the last chapter,” he says. (The book in question was Yuval Noah Harari’s Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow , actually 464 pages.)

Having a strong rapport with Momoa was important given the physical demands of the film. Because Wan was simulating an underwater world, Heard and Momoa suffered through long hours in itchy, uncomfortable suits and in harnesses.

“I really just assumed she would bitch. Like, I whine and moan and cry more than she does,” Momoa adds. “She was such a trooper.”

For better or worse, much of the fascination surrounding Heard stems from her romances. From 2008 to 2012, she was in a same-sex relationship with celebrity photographer Tasya van Ree. As that union was winding down, she met Depp on the set of The Rum Diary in 2011 and began living with the then-A-list actor a year later. They married in 2015.

But after 15 months as a married couple, things turned ugly, and in 2016, she filed for divorce from Depp amid claims that he physically and verbally abused her, including throwing a cellphone at her head and leaving a gash under her eye (Depp denies the allegations). Despite the fact that the pair signed confidentiality agreements, Depp continues to lambast her in the press. In a recent British GQ profile, he implied that the domestic abuse allegations were part of a larger conspiracy tied to his legal troubles with his business managers. Still, Heard won’t take the bait.

“I’m not going to talk about Johnny. I’m more interested in talking about the work I’m doing and the things I feel proud of. I stood up for myself, for what was right,” she says, quickly turning the conversation to a rare James Joyce Ulysses on display.

Heard donated her entire $7 million divorce settlement to the ACLU, for which she serves as an ambassador, and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

“I don’t think anyone would have looked differently at her if she kept the settlement money that was due to her, but she knew that money could do more for others than it could for her,” says Jessica Herman Weitz, director of artist engagement at the ACLU. “What that money was able to do to help protect women and other gender-based violence victims will go a long way to make a difference for the people that we serve. That was my first interaction with her, which is pretty bold. It was not, ‘I’ll throw you a tweet.’ It was, ‘I’m putting my money where my mouth is.'”

By contrast, Heard is more forthcoming on the subject of Musk, who began pursuing the actress when she was with Depp on the 2012 set of Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills , according to an email exchange between the Tesla founder and director Rodriguez that THR published in August 2016. “Can you send her a note saying I would like to get together for lunch in LA?” Musk emailed the Rodriguez team. “Am not angling for a date. I know she’s in a long-term relationship, but … Amber just seems like an interesting person to meet.”

“Elon and I had a beautiful relationship, and we have a beautiful friendship now, one that was based on our core values,” Heard says. Such as? “Intellectual curiosity, ideas and conversation, a shared love for science. We just bonded on a lot of things that speak to who I am on the inside. I have so much respect for him.”

As for his meltdowns and stepping down as Tesla chairman (he remains CEO), Heard says with a laugh, “He’s not boring.”

Much of what defines Heard today can be traced to her upbringing in Texas, the middle child of three daughters. Her younger sister, Whitney, lives nearby in Los Angeles and is about to give birth to her first child. Brimming with pride, Heard shows me a picture of her dog, Pistol, sitting atop Whitney’s very pregnant stomach.

“She’s my best friend. She’s my partner in crime,” she says.

Back in Texas, Heard spent long hours at the Austin Public Library, becoming a voracious reader of dystopian sci-fi. “That’s what helped structure a lot of my thoughts, feelings, attitudes, convictions in a way that was relevant politically,” she notes.

One of her first activist moves was donating to the ACLU. “She was a high school student, and she heard about this ACLU case of a high school student who was denied the ability to take the person that they love to the prom,” says Herman Weitz, who learned of the story when she began working with Heard. “It was a same-sex couple, and she saw, ‘Oh man, there is an organization that cares for queer people like me. I’m going to throw them $25.’ Which for a high school student is like all the money in the world.”

Amber Heard Nabs Lead Role in Thriller 'Run Away With Me'

By her late teens, she moved to Los Angeles and landed small roles in TV series like Jack & Bobby . Her first film role came via Peter Berg’s Texas football hit Friday Night Lights . And she once worked with her father, David Heard, in Machete Kills (though he’s a contractor, not an actor, David Heard was cast because he has a great Texas look). Over the years, she’s worked with some of Hollywood’s top directors, like Tom Hooper in The Danish Girl , Niki Caro in North Country and Nick Cassavetes in Alpha Dog. But like the career of a young Charlize Theron, she mostly was relegated to looking beautiful while the action revolved around others.

Now, with strong early buzz on Aquaman , Heard is poised to move high up the studio wish lists. In the meantime, she’s making plenty of money as the new global spokesperson for L’Oreal Paris. Even more fulfilling for Heard is her philanthropic work. In the runup to the midterms, she was on the ground, canvassing for Democrat Beto O’Rourke in his bid to unseat Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. In October, she visited the United Nations in Geneva, where she addressed diplomats about women’s rights and the scourge of gender-based violence.

“She’s passionate about the issues that she’s defending,” says Laurent Sauveur, head of external relations at the United Nations human rights office. “She really feels them because of her personal history. This is something that is not a theory for Amber. This is real life here she’s talking about.”

In between Aquaman promotional duties that have taken her from China to London, she embedded with the so-called caravan of asylum seekers in Mexico.

“I was working behind the scenes with some of the people giving humanitarian aid to the caravan and went to Mexico City when [the migrants] first started to arrive,” says Heard. To embed, “I got in contact with the heads of certain nonprofits. I prefer not to say which ones out of concern for their safety, as this has become extremely volatile and political.”

Though she spends much of her activist time outside of Hollywood, she says the industry, too, needs plenty of fixing. “Hollywood is the slowest to change. It’s ironically held up as some bastion of progressive ideals, and yet the reality is the exact opposite,” she says. “It’s deeply risk-averse and reliant on maintaining the status quo.”

Given the glacial pace of progress, the best thing Heard can do is pick roles that don’t objectify women. She recalls Aquaman producer Zack Snyder’s initial call describing his vision for the character “as a warrior queen, with a crown and a sword” she says. “A strong, independent, self-possessed superhero in her own right. I was like, ‘That’s the kind of character I can get behind.'”

Somewhere in between the caravan and lending time with Operation Smile, she flew to Jordan to work with Syrian American Medical Society, helping refugees along the border. While there she rescued a dog that was dying on the side of the road and was mistaken for a rock.

“When you travel and spend so much time on the road and in such a nonconsistent, go-go-go way, one country this day, shooting a movie or in a refugee camp and you’re doing all these things and going everywhere, you can find yourself sometimes at the end of a month realizing that, while you’re never actually alone, you’ve just gone a month without being around a single person who knows you,” she says.

With that, Heard lifts up her turtleneck and reveals the left side of her back, covered in verse tattoos. Omar Khayyam and Pablo Neruda. Next will be Baudelaire. It’s something of an explanation for wanting some permanence in her gypsy life.

“Living out of a suitcase, collecting books is not the most convenient thing for me to be doing,” she says as she looks longingly at a Robert Graves collection that contains the love poem The Thieves . “Because I have very little consistency in my life, I feel like I need a piece of me that reminds me of home or some version of that. It needs to be some object.”

For Heard, a book will do.

Elon Musk’s brother and friends “hated” Amber Heard “with a passion” when they dated — a relationship even Musk admitted could be “brutal,” according to his new biography.

The world’s richest man dated the “Aquaman” actress for about a year after her high-profile 2016 split from Johnny Depp, a marriage famously mired in allegations of shocking excess and domestic violence .

Musk’s “brother and friends hated [Heard] with a passion that made their distaste for Justine [his first wife] pale,” Walter Isaacson wrote in “Elon Musk,” according to excerpts in the Times of London .

“She was just so toxic. A nightmare,” the brother, Kimbal Musk, told Isaacson in the book published Monday.

“It’s really sad that he falls in love with these people who are really mean to him.

“They’re beautiful, no question, but they have a very dark side and Elon knows they are toxic.”

Musk’s chief of staff, Sam Teller, even compared Heard to “the Joker in ‘Batman.’ 

“She didn’t have a goal or aim other than chaos. She thrives on destabilizing everything,” Teller was quoted as saying.

Musk admitted that the relationship was “brutal,” according to an excerpt in the Independent — while conceding it fit a trend of potentially picking the wrong partners.

“I’m just a fool for love. I am often a fool, but especially for love,” Musk told Isaacson.

The biographer — who shadowed the X owner for three years — even dedicates a chapter to Musk’s “Rocky Relationships.”

“Musk was not bred for domestic tranquility. Most of his romantic relationships involve psychological turmoil,” the renowned biographer noted.

Musk’s on-again, off-again partner, the musician Grimes , also spoke of the Tesla mogul’s history of “chaotic” lovers, suggesting Heard was worse than most.

“My Dungeons and Dragons alignment would be chaotic good. Whereas Amber’s is probably chaotic evil,” the quirky Canadian songstress said.

Heard, meanwhile, told the biographer that she still loves the Space X honcho “very much,” while conceding he doesn’t always make the best choices.

“Elon loves fire, and sometimes it burns him,” the actress told Isaacson.

A representative for Heard did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Isaacson details how the X owner spotted Heard in “Machete Kills” 2013, when she was already dating Depp, whom she married in 2015.

The pair eventually connected years later, after Heard and Depp split. Though it is unclear when the relationship became romantic, they went Instagram official in April 2017.

During Depp and Heard’s sensational defamation trial last spring, Heard asserted that she did not really know Musk until the 2016 Met Gala, when she claimed the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star “stood [her] up.”

Depp countered that the couple actually started secretly dating in 2015, the year he married.

By August 2017, rumors swirled that Heard and Musk had split, with the latter eventually confirming on Instagram that “Although Amber and I did break up, we are still friends, remain close and love one another.”

”Long distance relationships, when both partners have intense work obligations are always difficult, but who knows what the future holds,” he hinted.

The pair appeared to have resumed their relationship a couple months later, but seemed to call it quits for good in February 2018, People reported .

In addition to his relationship with Heard, Musk was married to his first wife, Justine, with whom he shares five children, from 2000 to 2008. He later married British actress Talulah Riley twice before having three children with Grimes and before welcoming employee Shivon Zilis’ twins via IVF.

Grimes, meanwhile, also claimed that “clueless” Musk took a photo of her having a C-section and sent it to close family and friends — including her own father and brother.

Grimes and Musk also got into a public spat this month when Isaacson shared a photo of Musk alongside Zilis and their twins, Strider and Azure.

“Tell Shivon to unblock me and tell Elon to let me see my son or plz respond to my lawyer,” Grimes commented on the snap.

Amber Heard’s Aquaman 2 Role Was Reportedly Saved by…Elon Musk?

Speaking to author Walter Isaacson for his recently released Elon Musk biography , Amber Heard had this to say about her ex-boyfriend: “Elon loves fire, and sometimes it burns him.” According to a new report from Variety , the SpaceX and Tesla founder was willing to wield that fiery energy when it came to salvaging Heard’s role in the forthcoming Aquaman sequel.

The trade reports that the actor’s therapy notes say that costar Jason Momoa wanted her fired from her role as Aquaman’s love interest, Mera, and that director James Wan antagonized her because of her legal battle with Depp. The outlet cited unearthed notes from Heard’s therapist, Dawn Hughes, which were used in Heard and ex-husband Johnny Depp ’s defamation trial . Variety reports that sources say Heard was nearly fired due to a lack of chemistry with Momoa. 

But Heard’s role was ultimately saved by Musk, according to Variety, who had one of his lawyers send a “scorched-earth letter to Warner Bros. threatening to burn the house down” if the actor wasn’t reenlisted for the sequel. (Representatives for Heard, Momoa, Musk, and Wan did not provide comment to Variety. Vanity Fair has reached out for additional comment to Warner Bros./DC.)

Heard—who declined comment to Variety, though a source close to her confirmed the notes reflect her therapy session on December 27, 2021—previously testified about her reduced role during the defamation trial. Former DC Films boss Walter Hamada said on the stand that there had been a “lack of chemistry” between Heard and Momoa. But attorney Kathryn Arnold stated that Momoa and Wan were both “adamant” that Heard remain in the film.

The notes detail a toxic work environment in which Momoa allegedly showed up to set inebriated and dressed like Depp. “Jason said he wanted me fired,” the notes reportedly say. “Jason drunk—late on set. Dressing like Johnny. Has all the rings too.” A DC spokesperson denied this account, saying, “Jason Momoa conducted himself in a professional manner at all times on the set of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom .” Another source added, “Jason works his ass off, likes to have a beer once in a while like everyone, but doesn’t show up drunk to set. And he isn’t dressing like Johnny Depp. He has always dressed in that bohemian style.”

Of Wan, who also directed 2018’s Aquaman origin story, the notes read, “He raised his voice @ me—‘I can’t even post about Aquaman ’—made it like it was my fault—I said ‘I’m sorry.’ Nobody could take selfies with me on set given blackout.” A DC spokesperson said, “James is known for treating members of his cast and crew with the utmost respect and for fostering a positive, collaborative environment on set—the Aquaman films were no exception.”

Sources tell Variety that at least two Heard scenes have been cut from the final version of the film, which has been reportedly recut multiple times and reshot since the summer of 2022. A separate source maintains that the film was on schedule, under budget, and required only about a week of reshooting.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled for theatrical release on December 20.

After a new biography on Elon Musk was released, the Tesla founder posted a photo related to one particular detail that is going viral from the book: his ex-girlfriend Amber Heard dressed in cosplay.

In the book, Elon Musk , author Walter Isaacson described Mr Musk’s relationship with Amber Heard.

Apparently, after the SpaceX founder said that the actor reminded him of a character from the video game Overwatch, she commissioned a costume of the character named Mercy.

Mr Musk posted a photo of his ex-girlfriend dressed in cosplay on Wednesday. The Independent has reached out to a representative for Ms Heard for comment.

“I guess I could be called a geek for someone who can also be called a hot chick,” Ms Heard recalled in the book, according to People .

Ms Heard made headlines last year during her defamation trial against actor Johnny Depp, whom she married in 2015 and divorced in 2016 . Jurors found that Heard had defamed Depp in three statements and awarded him more than $10m in damages.

She apparently also didn’t think of Mr Musk too fondly. In the biography, she described her relationship with the X owner as “brutal.”

However, she added that she still loves Mr Musk “very much,” explaining, “Elon loves fire, and sometimes it burns him.”

Those close to Mr Musk also had some things to say about Ms Heard, according to New York Magazine . Kimbal Musk, Elon’s brother, said, “She was just so toxic,” and called the pair’s relationship “a nightmare.”

Similarly, Mr Musk’s chief of staff, Sam Teller, compared the actor to the Joker, adding that he thought Ms Heard “didn’t have a goal or aim other than chaos. She thrives on destabilising everything.”

Mr Isaacson added that Mr Musk’s “brother and friends hated [Heard] with a passion that made their distaste for Justine [Musk’s first wife] pale”.

Mr Musk and Ms Heard allegedly dated in the wake of her divorce from Mr Depp. The couple made their relationship official in April 2017 in an Instagram post.

Elon Musk’s brother, ex Grimes and friends hated ‘toxic’ Amber Heard: biography

Elon Musk’s loved ones didn’t support his “toxic” relationship with Amber Heard.

“[Elon’s] brother [Kimbal Musk] and friends hated [Heard] with a passion that made their distaste for Justine [Wilson, Musk’s first wife] pale,” journalist Walter Isaacson, who has been shadowing the SpaceX founder for three years, writes in his new “Elon Musk” biography, per the London Times .

Grimes, who dated Elon from 2018 to 2021 and shares three children with him, claims there was a “chaotic evil” to the “Aquaman” actress.

“My ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ alignment would be chaotic good. Whereas Amber’s is probably chaotic evil,” the singer told Isaacson. “He’s attracted to chaotic evil.”

Grimes, 35, blames Elon’s affinity for toxic relationships on his upbringing with his dad, Errol Musk.

“It’s about his father and what he grew up with, and he is quick to fall back into being treated badly,” she explains. “He associates love with being mean or abusive. There’s an Errol-Amber through line.”

Kimbal, 50, also claims Heard, 37, was a “nightmare” in the bombshell book.

“It’s really sad that he falls in love with these people who are really mean to him,” he says of his older brother. “They’re beautiful, no question, but they have a very dark side and Elon knows they are toxic.”

Isaacson writes that Elon, 52, was “not bred for domestic tranquility” and that most of his relationships involved “psychological turmoil.”

The billionaire himself admits in the book that he is “often a fool, but especially for love,” and describes Heard as “brutal.”

The “Rum Diary” star, for her part, weighs in on her messy past with Elon, admitting that while she still loves him “very much,” her ex-boyfriend has a habit of dating women who are not good for him.

“Elon loves fire, and sometimes it burns him,” Heard says in the biography.

Elon was first drawn to Heard when he met her on the set of the 2013 film “Machete Kills.” The Tesla CEO then attempted to take the actress out on a dinner date while she was still dating Johnny Depp, but she never showed.

Years later, they reportedly reconnected, though the timeline remains unclear.

During Depp’s successful 2022 defamation trial against Heard , he claimed in court documents that she and Elon had secretly started dating in 2015. But Heard claimed she and Elon did not get together until 2016 after her then-husband allegedly “stood [her] up” at the Met Gala.

Elon and Heard confirmed their relationship on Instagram in April 2017 while they were vacationing in Australia; however, that August, news broke that the duo had split.

The business magnate subsequently confirmed their breakup by commenting on one of Heard’s Instagram posts, “Although Amber and I did break up, we are still friends, remain close and love one another.”

He continued, ”Long distance relationships, when both partners have intense work obligations are always difficult, but who knows what the future holds.”

The duo reportedly rekindled their relationship later that year but broke up for good in February 2018.

Three years later, Heard welcomed her daughter , Oonagh Paige, via surrogate , on April 8, 2021.

Meanwhile, Elon has 11 children with three different women.

He and Wilson, 51, welcomed son Nevada in 2002, but the baby tragically died at just 10 weeks old of sudden infant death syndrome.

The former couple went on to have twins, Griffin and Vivian, in 2004 and triplet sons, Kai, Saxon and Damian, in 2006 via IVF. Two years later, Elon and Wilson divorced.

Elon went on to marry “Westworld” star Talulah Riley twice and briefly dated Heard before sparking a relationship with Grimes in 2018.

He and the “Genesis” artist  welcomed their first son , X, in 2020. However, in 2021, Page Six exclusively reported that  the couple had ended things after three years together.

They briefly rekindled their relationship and welcomed daughter Y via surrogate later that year.

By 2022, Grimes shared that she and Elon had split up again .

According to the biography, Elon and Grimes secretly welcomed their third child , Techno (nicknamed “Tau”), though it is unclear when the baby was born.

In 2021, the angel investor and Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis secretly welcomed twins  Strider and Azure. Isaacson includes the first photo of them at 16 months old in his book.

At the 10th Breakthrough Prize ceremony on Saturday, billionaire Elon Musk took a moment to share his thoughts on the upcoming biopic about his life, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Darren Aronofsky. 

When ET’s Deidre Behar asked who should portray him on the big screen, Musk deflected the question with his characteristic wit, replying, "Who do you think should play me?"

However, when the suggestion of Bradley Cooper was raised, Musk couldn't help but laugh, responding with his own suggestion, "Uh, how about Benedict Cumberbatch?"

Amidst chuckles, Musk then directly addressed Cumberbatch through the camera, saying, "All right, Benedict, what do you think?"

Shifting gears, Musk shared a look into his space exploration endeavors, revealing discussions with Tom Cruise about possibly filming a Mission: Impossible movie in space . 

Musk disclosed, "Tom Cruise has said he wants to do Mission: Impossible in space. We've had some discussions, but I'm not sure where his mind is at."

The controversial tech billionaire's story will be adapted into a film based on Walter Isaacson's book, Elon Musk , and directed and produced by Aronofsky.

Isaacson's Steve Jobs was previously adapted into a 2015 movie of the same name starring Michael Fassbender. As for Aronofsky, the Oscar nominee previously directed Black Swan , The Whale and Requiem for a Dream . 

A24 landed the bidding war for the project.

Musk has approved the film and its director, posting to X, "I'm Glad Darren is doing it. He is one of the best."

Musk, a dad of 11, is the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla. In 2022, he bought Twitter and became its CEO. He's since changed the social media site's name to X and stepped down as CEO, maintaining the role of executive chairman and chief technology officer.
