IELTS TOPIC: A Place In A Village You Visited

04/03/2022 11:02 AM

Things to consider:

  • Look carefully at the topic. It says "a place in a village" and not a whole village. Try to think of a special place you used to play or spent time at (not a house).
  • You can begin the topic with an overall description of the village and then focus on one place , like your favorite playground, forest, lake, hill, or farm.
  • You can make a short plan of "what you did there". Consider using:
  • I would usually spend my time at...
  • At times I would...
  • I could always...
  • I would never get bored over there, because...
  • I loved to...

my village essay ielts

Part 2: Sample Answer

Alright, so I’d like to begin with the fact that I come from the city. This means that I grew up in a big , developed city , and generally lived there my whole life . However , in my country (and in many European countries in general) we have a tradition or a family goal . Every family tries to buy or even build a place in the countryside , where they could retire and live near nature . And so my family has a house or a villa in the countryside , 500 kilometers away from the city.

I begin with an introduction about where I come from and the countryside.

As a young child, I spent a huge amount of time over there. We used to go every summer and winter vacation and live there with my grandparents who were young at that time. I even helped my grandfather build up and extend the house, and so I learned quite a few skills related to construction and building. These are some memories I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life .

I continue to introduce a bit more about my countryside.

A place I used to visit quite often over there was a huge field very close to our house. Our property is located at the very end of the village , right next to the forest , and If I wanted to, I could walk out and explore the marvelous nature around. The field was located next to the forest . It was truly special because, it used to be a raspberry field long ago, but it was abandoned . However, there were still hundreds of raspberry bushes , growing unbothered by humans for many many years. This was my favorite place to hang out , as I could collect all sorts of raspberries absolutely for free . I even learned about some local wild herbs and began gathering those as well, as they could be used for herbal tea . In general, it was an amazing place. I could lie down on the green grass and look up at the clear blue sky , all while tracing some lonely cloud and eating a bag full of raspberries . How awesome is that!

I describe the special place I enjoyed visiting in the village.

At the moment , only my parents and uncle go there on vacation or during some holidays. As I moved abroad, I believe I haven’t been there for over 10 years. It must have changed quite a lot, however, in my mind , it’s still that lovely, tiny village I loved. I have definitely begun to feel nostalgic and I already plan to go back there again. Hopefully, I’m able to for the raspberry season !

I end with a wish I have for mysellf.

my village essay ielts

Examiner:   Is there anything special about the villages in your country?

  • Many villages and small towns keep their traditions and culture alive.  They keep the traditional architecture and design of the houses, follow traditions when it comes to festivals and local customs , and honor or respect their ancient culture . This makes these traditional villages a true piece of the past , and many tourists prefer experiencing and visiting these, instead of busy touristy places .
  • People in the villages are different than those in the city. In general , people are friendly , kind , and willing to invite you for a drink or even a meal . People gather at the village centers and share news , gossip , and random thoughts with each other. Overall , the village is a friendlier experience , compared to the city, as people live without much stress or worry .

The answer is for China, as I live here at the moment.

I’ve been to only a few of those, but in my opinion , they all live a very natural , clean life, unspoiled from technology and pollution . I’ve seen some villages that keep older , traditional-style private homes and public buildings , which look like from a movie set about an ancient Chinese empire . I really enjoy visiting those and comparing them to the ones we have in Europe. Life in those villages is usually slow-paced, peaceful , and relaxed, with all people knowing each other and gathering in the public square to share their latest news or some village gossip . This is very similar to the villages in Europe, where people do the same, except they meet in the tavern or the local pub .

Examiner:   Why do people want to go to the countryside?

For retirement.

  • After living for many years in the city, many families prefer to retire in the countryside, near nature . In some countries, the countryside is developed enough to offer everything necessary like a hospital , a supermarket , and even some places for entertainment . Living near nature, people can enjoy the fresh air and a stress-free environment .

For An Escape

  • Many people feel the burden of cities , with all the stress , the crowds , the huge traffic , and pollution . For them, they want to escape from the cities and enjoy a weekend in peace . They would go hiking , stroll around a forest , and enjoy the fresh air and natural environment . This is definitely , one way to relax and get your thoughts together .

Examiner:   What do people usually do when they visit a village?

  • Going out in nature , a person can do many activities related to the natural environment around him. If the village is near a lake or a river , people can go fishing , boating , or simply have a swim in the cool waters. If there is a farm , people can go g ather some vegetables or fruit , walk around the farms and chat with the farmers , or help with the farm duty , if they're willing to.

In The Village

  • Inside the village, people can visit some of the traditional buildings and take a ton of photos around. They could stop and talk with some of the local citizens and learn about their culture or habits , and even sit down and eat some traditional snacks with the locals . And of course, if there is a local festival going on , they could join the activities .

Many would explore nature nearby. Villages are usually near a forest , or a river and so people would wake up early and go camping in the woods , all by themselves . For some, including me, this is an amazing activity where you can reconnect with nature . Others would explore the buildings and architecture in those villages and try to visit some traditional homes . In many villages, these homes are like small tourist attractions , and so people would travel from far away to visit them. What else is there… If there is a river or a lake nearby , people could try fishing or just swim in. It is definitely great for kids, as kids can run around the yards , fields , or country roads and scream as loud as they can , and nobody would stop them.

Examiner:   Do you think people will live in villages in the future?

For the young.

  • It is very unlikely for young people to live in the villages, as every young person is striving to achieve more in life. For the younger generation, they will be leaving the villages for the cities, trying to find success , accomplishment , and love . Young people are definitely not going to live in small villages, as they see them as boring and inconvenient .

For The Older

  • The older people get, the more they want something real and natural around them. They realize that cities are full of pollution , negativity , and stress , and because of this, they try to leave, if possible forever. The future might open up opportunities for working remotely or online . If villages have good , stable internet connections , then people could move to live over there, all while doing their job remotely .

I do actually . As society develops , there are more and more people who leave the cities, especially later in their life, once they’ve earned enough and feel comfortable to do that change. If a village has a stable and fast internet connection , a person could even work remotely from there, and enjoy all the benefits , like the clean , fresh air and the natural life around him. In some European countries like Germany or Denmark , there are these fully developed cute little villages , that have everything you can ever need , like shops , restaurants or even some entertainment like a cinema . So, yes I do believe that many people would move from the stress and traffic jams to a more natural way of living .

Currently, I am in an urban city. It is very rare when I would have visited any village, but I remember during my childhood I visited a village named that. The place is famous for its greenery, and there is a famous Sikh temple over that place. Talhan has very less population and pollution and is far away from city Jalandhar say 20kms. I visited the Sikh temple as it is of religious importance. I felt very calm and composed after visiting the temple. Nearby to the temple, there are lots of cultivated plants and trees which you rarely find in the city. I have visited the place along with my loved ones, and seeing the natural greenery and healthy environment made us delighted. The birds were chirping around all over the place. Also, the houses were made with soil and bricks as they were in the past. People in that area were very humble and supportive. my village essay ielts

Describe a place in a village that you visited

Where is it?

When you visited this place?

What did you do there?

And explain how you feel about this place

In my childhood, I visited my grandmother’s place, which is situated in a village, during summer vacation almost every year. Those visits were the times when I had some of my best days that I dote on to this day. I would like to talk about the first time I went to the village.

About 10 years ago, when I was just 12 years old, my grandparents moved from the city where we were all living together to their hometown, a village called Ramapur. It is about 250 kilometers from my hometown of Pune. I was glum when they left but my father promised to take me there during the summer holidays. I am glad to say, come the summer after I finished my seventh grade, he kept his promise, and we went together to see my grandparents.

As I entered the village, I realized it was much more beautiful than I expected. My grandparents’ home was an old brick-built house with large doors and an open center. I immediately fell in love with it. The next few days, I went on to explore the place. It was so alluring with stunning crop and fruit fields spanning many acres of land. Furthermore, there was a lotus pond which attracted tourists from nearby places as well. I made some friends there with whom I had lots of fun playing games.

It was one of the best places I have ever been to as the experience left me with many memories. The games I played with my friends near the mango tree situated behind my grandparents' house and going for swimming trips to the nearby lake early in the morning created some indelible moments. I feel nostalgic talking about it right now. I think I should visit the place again soon and meet my friends there.

  • Indelible - memorable

Part 3 Follow Up - Questions & Answers

1. do young people enjoy living in the countryside.

I think most young people now-a-days like living in the city because of the differences in facilities that can be accessed in cities and countryside. For instance, the countryside may not have huge fancy restaurants where young people often like to arrange gatherings at while in cities, there are many such places.

2. Do old people prefer to live in the countryside or in the city?

In my view, old people love living in the countryside as it is often seen as a place to relax after retirement. It has a calm environment with fresh air and relatively undisturbed neighborhoods which in cities are mostly buzzing with people and traffic.

3. Why do many people move from small towns to big cities?

One of the reasons that people move from small town places to big cities is the search for better career prospects. More often than not, options for work in small towns are limited whereas cities have a wide range of opportunities for various skills and people come looking for exactly such opportunities. Besides, facilities like schools and colleges for children are also better in cities so people often migrate to cities.

4. How has life changed in the countryside in your country?

In India, countryside is gradually mirroring the lifestyle that cities have with opening of large malls, construction of corporate buildings etc. They are rapidly developing in order to provide residents with better opportunities. Transportation also has developed over the last few years with better connectivity with other locations.

IELTS Cue Card #Describe a place in a village that you visited

Sample Answer :

Gandhiji once said that soul of India rests in its villages. Villages, in true essence, represent the actual aboriginal habitations. Earlier, there used to be a remarkable difference in the access of amenities between a village and a city. But, over the time, with globalization and digital media, the difference has shrunk to the bare minimum and villages along with their suburbs hold every item of necessity and luxury. Still, they remind of their rustic routine and scenic beauties with ample of open spaces in fields. I visited my village the last Diwali. I heard a lot about art and craft fair, organized by the locals of few neighbouring villages on the eve of Diwali. It was a 3 hrs journey from my hometown.

I went along with my close friend, whom I informed about the festivity in advance. He was my college mate and like me, he too was overly interested in exploring the village culture and traditions. We together went in my car. We were received by my relatives living there with great warmth. After that we were offered the traditional village winter food at home, which we both enjoyed thoroughly.

It was noon then. After taking food, we went on to stroll around the village. I took my friend round the corner, to see the open fields. They were, at that time, laden with wheat harvest still in the ripening stage. Thereafter, we played with cattle and stray dogs. Watching crimson sunset with the clear horizon past the fields was a beautiful experience. In evening, we went to the place where this fair was organized. Already, it had turned into an entertainment zone with the shouts of vendors and exciting shrieks of children, eating sweets and riding different swings. Artefacts that were being sold, were generally made up of mud or wood. Some metal articles were also present.

It went till 10pm. Fair was organized amid the brilliant fireworks played on that panoramic evening. I was too absorbed in that peculiar scent, emanating from the households and cattle sheds in evenings. We bought some beautiful craft articles and ate jalebis prepared out of desi ghee. It was, indeed, a great bash for us. We had finally witnessed the lively village fiesta on Diwali, which made me tremendously joyful.

STRONG WORDS

Follow-up questions.

Q. 1 Do you like going to villages?

Sample answer: Yes, after a prolonged exposure to noisy and polluted cities, I always wish to go to quite surroundings of the village. Although, long electricity outages and lack of city comforts start pinching after a few days stay but I always wish to visit a village intermittingly.

Q. 2 What changes do you witness in villages nowadays?

Sample answer: Villages have been getting their facelift for the past few years. Every home in village, now has a toilet and bathroom. Even the govt was very keen on it for personal hygiene. Nearby towns have started including almost every facility, that is available in big cities. Literacy rates have improved significantly and students are selected in competitive exams from villages too. Pucca houses are built in villages nowadays. Broadband connection is reaching there, which in turn makes villagers aware of the latest trends and styles. Therefore, villages are no more the representations of backwardness and obsoleteness.

Q. 3 Why do you think people migrate from villages?

Sample answer: Primarily, people migrate from villages in search of better livelihood opportunities. In villages, there is a lack of infrastructure and apt productive facilities, due to which there is a great pressure on farming resources. To easen this pressure and earn a decent living, people travel to cities.

Q. 4 Do you think urbanization has destroyed the spirit of villages?

Sample answer: Yes, I strongly feel that rapid urbanization had severely damaged the villages’ image and spirit. Organic solidarity, simple lives, intense cooperation are the virtues of bygone days only. Noiseless pollution free lanes in a village is a rarity to be seen today. Tradition of joint families and livestock domestication is also giving way to the individual style of living. Urbanization, definitely has the advantages too but govt should have been careful in sketching the nation’s growth trajectory in such a way so as not to encroach upon the fertile village ecosystem, which used to have its own unique sustainability.

Q. 5 What do you think is the future of villages?

Sample answer: Villages, with their true character and flavour, are already dwindling at a rapid pace. These are, in turn becoming the extensible arms of the neighbouring towns and cities. This process is Rurbanization, which encompasses the physical territories of a rural area into the folds of urbanization. Therefore, we might be calling some places as villages in the future but they will merely be the reflections of cities only.

Describe a village or suburban area you have visited.

You should say:

  • where it is
  • when and how you went there
  • who live there

and explain what you liked/disliked about this village or suburban area.

Sample Answer 1

Life in villages and cities each holds a different sort of appeal for people. The rustic charm of village life offers a refreshing change from the endless bustle and mayhem of cities. In this regard, I would like to describe my experiences in a village I once visited.

On a holiday trip to Rajasthan with my family, I had the opportunity to visit Kuldhara village. Situated around 17 km from the ‘Golden City’ of Jaisalmer, Kuldhara is known as a ‘ghost village’. Such villages are commonly found across Rajasthan, having long been abandoned by their original inhabitants. Local legend states that the degenerate prime minister of the state, Salim Singh, expressed his desire to wed the village chief’s daughter and threatened the villagers with severe consequences if they refused. Unwilling to submit to the whims of the despot, a council was held with the residents of the villages, which totalled eighty-five in number, and they decided to abscond under cover of the night. Before they departed, however, legend has it that they placed a curse upon the village and declared that not a soul would ever be able to reside in that village ever after.

A far less sinister account of local history suggests that the villagers, who were Paliwal brahmins, escaped overnight to avoid unjust taxation. Kuldhara is now maintained by the Archeological Survey of India. What is most striking about the place is how everything seems to be frozen in time, with the buildings preserved in a near-intact manner since the residents left over three centuries ago. A sense of melancholy pervades the very air, offering visitors a rare glimpse into history.

I remember the profound impression this village left on me as a child. Even years later, the desolate, forlorn huts remain vividly etched in my memories and bring a strange sense of wistfulness when I reflect upon my visit there.

Sample Answer 2

Life in both, city and country has a different charm. However, the endless pleasures of country life cannot be denied. Living amidst nature and scenic greenery, life is comparatively slow compared to the hustle and bustle of the cities. Here, I’d like to talk about a village I recently visited.

Being born, brought up and having lived the majority of my life in a metropolis, I was unaware of the laid-back lifestyle of villages until I visited Renukaji in Himachal Pradesh, India, a few months ago. The village is located almost 400 kilometres away from Delhi, where I live. I visited Renukaji for research purposes as the village boasts incredible architectural sites. Thus, along with friends, I hired a rental cab to reach the village.

Although the 7-hour journey was monotonous, we were awestruck by the small scenic villages situated in between the huge mountains, and the Renukaji village was nestled beautifully amidst the natural beauty, lush greenery, and the serene Renuka lake. Upon our arrival in the village, we saw a secluded village with a very sparse population, making it tranquil and peaceful. Furthermore, the indigenous people of Renukaji were extremely hospitable and chivalrous and greeted us with a wide smile. They guided us to locate the monumental sites and helped us in the accommodation.

During my stay in Renukaji, I observed some of the best things. The first is that the people are extremely courteous towards strangers. They have mastered the art of balancing work and life. They’re less stressed and more content with life. I admired the village people’s ability to enjoy life at a slower pace, which we as city folk often fail to achieve.

What you did there?

And explain why you think it was enjoyable?

Sample Answer 1

Introduction

Being a voracious traveller, I tend to visit the hinterlands. During my recent trip to the countryside, I got a chance to see a unique place.

The place is in the hinterlands of Punjab state of India. This place is of historical importance, and its name is Sanghol .

When did you visit this place?

I visited this place last month to experience the immense beauty of the countryside.

What did you do there?

I saw the ruins of an ancient civilisation. Moreover, I had a close look, at the coins and seals of that period. Apart from that, I visited a museum to attend the light and sound show to acquire more knowledge of that place.

After roaming in that area for a few hours, I started feeling hungry, to pamper my appetite, I had lunch at a local eatery in the village. The vegetables served were organic, and I tasted the mouth-watering delicacy of Punjab called Mustard Mash with Maize Bread. On the top of it, I had buttermilk in a king-size glass.

In this contemporary epoch , fierce competition has become an integral part of people’s lives: due to this reason, there are a few places that have maintained their serenity. I am fortunate to spend my time in an area that provides an altogether different experience.

In my opinion, the world needs more people like Dr Rimple Sharma to make it a better place.

Sample Answer 2

Being a voracious traveller, I find pleasure in visiting new places. Recently, I visited a place in rural India, which I think has the potential to become the 8th wonder of the world.

This place is in the Himachal Pradesh state of India and falls under the Solan district. The name of the place is Mohan Shakti National Heritage Park.

I visited this place last month. The purpose was to do something beyond the conventional domain. Therefore, I chose to go to a rural area instead of a city or a hill station.

The first thing I did there was to take the blessings of the almighty by visiting the temple inside the complex.

After that, I had a look at the architecture of the complex. Although it is the latest construction, the architects have left no stone unturned to give it an ancient look. The design looks as if it is of the 16th century.

Furthermore, I had snacks at the restaurant inside the complex.

The trip was enjoyable because I got a chance to see a place that has carved out a niche for itself.

Moreover, due to the corona pandemic, my country was in a state of lockdown. The visit to Mohan Shakti National Heritage Park helped me to unwind. The garden inside the complex is of massive size, and spending time over there was akin to sitting in the lap of mother nature.

It is a must-visit place for people from all walks of life.

Sample Answer 3

Being a city dweller, I haven’t got enough opportunities to spend time in the countryside. Recently I visited a village to celebrate an occasion.

The village is in the Ludhiana district of Punjab, and its name is Farour.

Last month, I attended a wedding in a marriage palace built in the middle of the farms.

Although the primary purpose was to enjoy the wedding, I did numerous other activities. As I reached in the morning, I bathed in the tubewell to get relief from the scorching heat of the summer. The experience that I had while bathing would remain etched in my memories.

Moreover, being a nature lover, I visited organic farms. I had home cooked mustard mash with maize bread to pamper my appetite. Apart from this, I tasted buttermilk and jaggery.

In the evening, I wore traditional Punjabi attire to look different. The wedding celebration lasted for four hours. I had an out of world experience during the party. The DJ had played music with high beats, and I danced for two hours at a stretch.

Finally, the wedding celebrations ended at around 2 am. I left for my place with the feeling that I would visit this countryside area again and again.

The trip was enjoyable because it helped me do things beyond the conventional domain. There is no denying this conviction that city life has numerous advantages, but it lacks the originality of the countryside environment.

Sample Answer 4

Although I have visited numerous cities in my life, recently I went to an amazing place in the countryside.

It is a cricket stadium in the remote parts of Punjab amidst the fields.

Being a cricket fanatic, I play this game with enthusiasm. One month back the captain of my cricket team organised a match with the players from the countryside, and I went there to play the game.

I played a T20 cricket match.

The trip was enjoyable for many reasons. The first and foremost thing was the environment inside the stadium. Unlike cities, the air was clean and pristine. Moreover, the outfield was lush green, due to that many players could slide while fielding.

The second most enjoyable thing about the trip was the hospitality of the people from the countryside. They left no stone unturned to serve some exotic mouth-watering delicacies to us. Moreover, the food served was cent per cent organic. Although I ate a lot, I did not feel heavy.

Lastly, the central attraction of the trip was the fighting attitude of the countryside players. We had gone there with the impression that our opponents were weak: however, the village team gave us a tough fight. Although we won the match, it was a close one.

The quality time I spent in the village and the cricket stadium would always remain etched in my memories.

Follow up Questions

Here are some examples of follow up questions that the examiner might ask during your speaking part 3 related to the cue card “ Describe a place in a village that you visited ”.

1. Do young people enjoy living in the countryside?

As there is a shortage of facilities in the countryside, youngsters do not enjoy it much. The young people of the contemporary epoch thrive primarily on the internet for entertainment and study. They find it challenging to spend time in rural areas because of poor network connectivity.

Apart from this, their lives pivot around junk food. So they feel bored in rural areas because convenience food is usually not available in the countryside.

2. Do old people prefer to live in the countryside or the city?

Older people give preference to the countryside because they find the much-needed comfort over there.

Firstly they can spend their life peacefully in the countryside, because of less noise. The apparent reason for this is less traffic congestion in villages than in cities.

Secondly, in old age, people give more preference to organic food. As fresh fruit products are readily available in the countryside, they enjoy a healthy life.

3. Why do many people move from small towns to big cities?

A rising number of individuals move to cities from small towns because of three reasons.

Firstly they enjoy their life better in cities, most cities have shopping malls and amusement parks. People can spend their leisure time at these places and rejuvenate themselves.

Secondly, cities provide better education facilities than villages and towns. Cities bestow quality education through world-class universities, colleges and schools. Young people go there for studies.

The other prominent reason is quality medical treatment. Most of the cities have multi-speciality hospitals. The dwellers get quality medical treatment in case of any unforeseen contingency.

The above reasons prompt people to migrate to urban areas.

4. What’s the difference between living in the countryside and living in   the city?

Village life is simple because there is not much hustle and bustle. As the population is less, villages usually do not have much traffic congestion. Moreover, the pollution is less in rural areas, due to fewer industries and offices. Another advantage is that people are social. In villages, people provide unabated support to each other in case of conflicts and unforeseen contingencies. However, rural areas lack infrastructural development.

On the other hand, cities have more population than countryside and people live in all the nooks and corners. Due to this reason, there is a lot of traffic congestion and pollution. The sources of enjoyment are more in cities due to shopping malls and amusement parks. Moreover, healthcare and education facilities are also top-class. However, people remain very busy in their lives, and they do not have much time to interact with their neighbours.

5. How has life changed in the countryside in your country?

Countryside areas in my country have undergone a paradigm shift due to the influx of technology. Now the whole nation has internet connectivity. Due to this reason, people from villages are carving out a niche for themselves in burgeoning fields like blogging and vlogging.

Apart from the connectivity is helping the people living in the countryside to handle their conflicts adroitly .

My Village Essay

Life in metropolitan cities can be exciting and very happening, but life in villages has an entirely different vibe with its countryside atmosphere. The simplicity, peace and purity of a village is wonderful and unbeatable. I come from a small Himalayan village, Lamahatta, popularly known for its beauty. Here are a few sample essays on the topic ‘my village’ .

100 Words on My Village Essay in English

200 words on my village essay, 500 words on my village essay.

My Village Essay

The name of my village is Lamahatta. It is a small village present in the outskirts of North Bengal. I was born and brought up in Lamahatta. Lamahatta is well known for its lush pine forests, vast stretches of Darjeeling tea garden and the views of the snow-capped mountains. It is also a tourist destination. My village remains cool all through the year. The number of people residing in Lamahatta is not more than 1000. The villagers are very helpful. The majority of the women are tea-plantation workers whereas men work in construction. A pucca road runs through the entire village with small decorated houses on each side of the road. I love my village and its people.

I come from a village named Lamahatta. The village is located at a very high altitude nearly about 5000 feet above sea level. Lamahatta is a very small village of only 1000 residents. My village has become one of the tourist destinations because of its pleasant climate and natural beauty. Lamahatta has vast stretches of tea plantations and beautiful pine forests. These forests smell refreshing and sweet due to the presence of terpenes on them. My father used to take me to the village every year during my school holidays. I used to spend the entire holidays amidst the silence of the pine forests in a little concrete house with my mother, father and my brother.

The chirping of birds all throughout the day, and the light cool breeze used to amaze me and freshen up our minds. Here in my village, the houses are beautifully decorated with orchids and other flowers. Life in a village is very different from that in urban cities. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Lamahatta has always been peaceful. The people of my village are very helpful and lovable. In the evening, after the completion of work, every woman in the village meets in a small community hall where they have a small get-together. We celebrate each and every festival with great enthusiasm.

Everyone loves their native birthplace and so do I. I was born in a village named Lamahatta located at an altitude of 5000 feet near Darjeeling, the Queen of Hills in North Bengal. 'Lama' in Lamahatta stands for a Buddhist monk and 'Hatta’ means a hut. So basically Lamahatta means a monk's hermitage. Lamahatta is an offbeat location known for its lush green pine trees and large stretches of tea gardens with a beautiful view of the mountains. Due to this, my village has become a famous tourist destination mainly during the summers and the springs.

Life In A Village | Life in my village is quite different from that in urban cities. Here, it is slower and more peaceful. People live together and lead very simple lives. We mostly stay away from the continuous hustle and bustle of urban life. My village is greener and one can feel the freshness of the air.

About My Village

The people of my village are generally tribals belonging to the Sherpas, Tamangs, Bhutias and Dukpas . They work hard every day in order to make Lamahatta a clean, simple place and attractive place to live in. I belong to the Bhutia tribe. In my house, I have my parents and my small brother. My mother works as a tea plantation worker whereas my father works at a construction site. The occupations of the people in my village are plantation workers, homestay caretakers, dhaba managers and construction workers.

Places Of Attraction | My village people, along with the support of the government, have made this an eco-tourism place. Lamahatta contributes a good amount to North Bengal tourism. People from other countries often visit my village during the summer. Besides the natural beauty, the pleasant weather makes Lamahatt a dream place and an ideal place to live in. There are many exciting places for sightseeing here. We have the Lamahatta Eco Park , a roadside garden, monasteries among the woods, trekking facilities to Sacred Pond, the Gari Danda Fort and most importantly the huge tea plantations. My village serves as the connecting route between Darjeeling and Kalimpong . We also have ‘machan’, a wooden watchtower from where we can view the entire Lamahatta. The Eco park consists of about hundreds of colorful flags. My father says that the wind blowing through these flags is considered to purify the souls and minds of the people.

Christmas Celebration in Lamahatta

In our schools, children primarily learn Japanese, which is our native language. Additionally, English is introduced as a compulsory subject from elementary school onwards to prepare students for global opportunities.

The responsibility of teaching the native language primarily rests with our educational institutions.
