  • Quality Conscience – Doing the Right Thing

** Unlock Your Full Potential **

speech on quality week

The theme of CQI 2022 World Quality Week (#WQW22) is Quality conscience: Doing the right thing .

Quality means to achieve excellence through high performance.

In today’s competitive environment, companies are constantly striving to improve their processes and procedures. They are also focusing on improving customer service , delivering better value for customers, ensuring reliability , and providing excellent support. These are some of the key elements of quality management.

KEY Takeaways

  • Conscience is a voice inside us telling us what is right and what is wrong. The concept of quality conscience is very simple: Do the right thing.
  • Doing the right thing isn’t always the easiest choice to make, but it’s worth it for those companies that choose to put ethics above all else.
  • A quality conscience business cares about its employees, partners, suppliers, customers and the planet.

High-quality products and services are essential for success in today’s marketplace. The quality of products and services determines whether they meet customer expectations. This is why it is important for companies to invest time and resources into developing strong quality systems.

Definition of Conscience

Conscience is defined as the inner voice that tells us what is right and wrong. It is the part of us that leads us to do the right thing, even when no one is looking. Quality conscience is doing the right thing, not just because it is the right thing to do, but also because it is the thing that we want to do. It is acting with integrity and making choices based on our values.

Explained Clearly. Learn Easily.

Your conscience is the little voice inside your head that tells you what's right and what's wrong. It's like your own personal guide that helps you make good choices.

It's like a little alarm that goes off in your head to tell you when you're about to do something you shouldn't.

Conscious vs Conscience

The difference between conscious and conscience is subtle. Though these two words sound similar, conscience refers to the awareness that one's actions are right or wrong,  while conscious means "awake" or "alert."

Consciousness refers to awareness; conscience refers to morality.

We can consciously choose to act ethically, but unless we have an ethical foundation, we cannot truly know what is right or wrong. A person who acts without conscience will often make bad decisions.

What is Quality Conscience?

When it comes to quality, many companies claim to have a conscience. But what does that mean? For some, it may be adhering to a certain set of standards or best practices. Others may prioritize the customer experience by putting their needs first. Whatever the definition, quality conscience companies always strive to do the right thing – even if it’s not the easy thing.

The scope of quality conscience should not just be limited to the shareholders and customers only, but should also expand beyond that to include employees, society and the environment as well.

Why Quality Conscience?

There are many reasons why one might choose to do the right thing, even when it is difficult. For some, it may be a sense of personal integrity or a strong moral compass that drives them to do what is right. Others may feel a responsibility to uphold certain values or to act in the best interests of others. Whatever the motivation, choosing to do the right thing can be a difficult but rewarding decision.

In a world where businesses are often driven by the bottom line, it can be difficult to find companies that care about more than just profit. However, there are still businesses out there that maintain a quality conscience, doing the right thing even when it's not the most profitable choice. These companies believe that people come before profits, which ultimately benefits everyone involved.

A company with a quality conscience understands that its reputation is everything. It knows that if it doesn't treat its employees, suppliers and customers fairly, then it won't be able to sustain itself for long. In addition, it realizes that if it doesn't take good care of the planet, then it won't survive either. Therefore, it chooses to do the right thing because it wants to be the kind of business that other businesses look up to.

Speech on World Quality Day

World Quality Day is a special day that celebrates the importance of quality in our lives. It’s like a big party for everyone who cares about making things better.

Every year, on the second Thursday of November, people around the world join this celebration. You too can be a part of it and help make a positive change.

1-minute Speech on World Quality Day

Good morning everyone, I’m glad to be here to talk about something special: World Quality Day. This day reminds us why quality matters in everything we do. Think of it as the difference between a well-made toy that lasts for years and one that breaks after a few days. Quality makes things better!

World Quality Day is celebrated every year on the second Thursday of November. It’s like a birthday party for quality. On this day, we appreciate the importance of quality in our work, our products, and our services. It’s like saying thank you to all the people who work hard to make sure things are done right.

Quality is not just about products. It’s also about how we do things. Have you ever seen a beautifully organized bookshelf or a neatly folded pile of clothes? That’s quality too! It means doing things in the best possible way, making sure nothing is left to chance.

But why is quality so important? Imagine a world without quality. Toys would break, cars wouldn’t run, and your favorite ice cream wouldn’t taste as good. Quality ensures that everything works as it should, and it makes our lives better.

Finally, World Quality Day is a call to action. It’s a day to think about how we can improve quality in our own lives. Maybe we can clean our rooms a little better, or take more care in our schoolwork. Every little bit helps!

So, let’s celebrate World Quality Day by appreciating the quality around us and striving to make our own work the best it can be. Because a world with quality is a world that works better for everyone. Thank you.

2-minute Speech on World Quality Day

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today, we gather to celebrate World Quality Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the importance of quality in our lives. Just like we need good quality food to stay healthy or good quality books to learn, everything we do, use, or create needs to be of good quality.

Quality is like the invisible magic wand that makes things work better, last longer, and bring happiness. When you ride your bicycle smoothly without any hiccups, that’s quality at work. When your favorite toy doesn’t break easily and lasts for a long time, that’s quality shining through. Quality is what makes your school bag strong enough to carry all your books without tearing apart.

But quality doesn’t just pop up like a rabbit from a magician’s hat. It needs hard work, careful thinking, and a lot of testing. Just like a delicious cake needs the right ingredients, the right temperature, and the right baking time, quality needs the right materials, the right methods, and the right checks. That’s why we have a special day to celebrate it – to remind us all to strive for quality in everything we do.

Now, you might wonder, how can we, as kids, contribute to this? Well, remember the last time you drew a picture? You chose the brightest colors, drew the lines carefully, and filled in every detail. That’s you creating quality! Or when you helped your mom in the kitchen, you washed the vegetables thoroughly, chopped them neatly, and arranged them nicely. That’s you ensuring quality!

But quality is not just about making things. It’s also about using things responsibly. When you use your toys, books, and clothes carefully, making sure they last longer, you are respecting the quality of those things. And when you recycle or reuse things instead of throwing them away, you are helping to maintain the quality of our environment.

On this World Quality Day, let’s make a promise. A promise to strive for quality in everything we do – in our studies, in our games, in our chores. A promise to respect the quality of things we use. A promise to help maintain the quality of our environment. Remember, quality is not just about things. It’s about us, our actions, our habits.

Let’s be quality superheroes! Let’s make our world a better, happier, and more quality-filled place. Thank you.

World Quality Day – November 14, 2024

World Quality Day is observed every year on the second Thursday in November. This year, it falls on November 14. The purpose of this day is to raise quality awareness and provide support to individuals and organizations for the achievement of economic prosperity and the adoption of high-quality standards. In 2008, the first World Quality Day took place in London, United Kingdom (U.K.). Every year, the theme of World Quality Day is decided by the Chartered Quality Institute (C.Q.I.). Some of the previous themes included “Sustainability: Improving Our Products, People, and Planet” and “Creating Customer Value.”

History of World Quality Day

The Chartered Quality Institute (C.Q.I.) chooses the theme of World Quality Day every year. Founded in 1919, the C.Q.I. is a chartered professional body for experts in improving service, project, and product quality. Since its inception, the C.Q.I. has set a standard for championing organizational excellence in quality management worldwide. The organization now has a membership of approximately 20,000 people and is the only organization that can award people with the “Chartered Quality Professional” status. The C.Q.I. is also in charge of the International Register of Certified Auditors (I.R.C.A.).

Part of the C.Q.I.’s mission is to “improve the ability of organizations to deliver the very best for consumers and stakeholders.” Their vision is “a world in which organizations of all types and sizes thrive by providing outstanding value for customers, stakeholders, and society.” The maiden conference of World Quality Day took place on November 13, 2008, at the Inmarsat Conference Centre in London.

Quality management, a fairly modern concept, is subdivided into four components: quality planning, quality assurance, quality control, and quality improvement, referred to as total quality management (T.Q.M.). In general, it involves maintaining a desired level of excellence.

World Quality Month is here… Spread the word!

November is recognized internationally as World Quality Month.  Some interesting fun facts regarding its origin via ASQ include:

  • Japan has celebrated World Quality Month in November since 1960.
  • China originally recognized World Quality Month in September starting in 1978.
  • North America started raising awareness in 1988 and was originally celebrated in October.
  • First promulgated by the United Nations in 1990, World Quality Day aims to raise international awareness of the important role quality plays in ensuring nations’ prosperity. Now it is celebrated annually on the second Thursday of November.
  • In the UK, Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) will celebrate World Quality Day with events from November 11-15. The South African Quality Institute also celebrates National Quality Week annually.

Why do we need a World Quality Month?

“The purpose of World Quality Month is to promote the use of quality tools in businesses and communities. Quality tools, such as flowcharts and checklists, reduce mistakes and help produce superior products. Quality principles could reduce headline-making errors, like food safety, toy recalls, and financial disruptions. World Quality Month calls on people who use quality tools to share their knowledge by submitting their stories to illustrate the value of quality principles.” “The purpose of World Quality Day is to promote awareness of quality around the world and encourage development and prosperity” ( CQI Source )

At Pro QC , we know quality incorporates reducing risks and cost of the products and services produced and delivered, but it also includes quality of life.  November is a time to recognize the importance of an overall quality focus and incorporate proven principles into daily life throughout the month and ongoing.

For this World Quality Month, we are offering a weekly progress approach that can be duplicated for continuous improvement. Try it, and let us know what you think!

Week 1 – Spread awareness.

  • If you work in quality, tell your friends, family and co-workers more about what you do and why you do it.  Ask them what they think quality is and open a discussion about its importance.
  • Host a special team meeting (celebration) at work and recognize World Quality Month. Talk about what the organization has done throughout the year to support quality and what future goals/objectives include.
  • If you are unable to host a special meeting for World Quality Month, add it to the agenda of a regularly scheduled meeting and encourage employees to submit quality improvement suggestions or learn more at links such as those provided at the end of this post.
  • Send out an organization-wide email reinforcing the importance of quality and including additional references such as those listed below and other training opportunities that may be available.

Week 2 – Look inward.

  • Brainstorm ideas for improving quality within the organization. Get everyone involved.  If you gave everyone an index card and asked them to write suggestions for improvement, imagine what the value of that information could turn into when you consider the potential cost savings and team support.
  • Perform an internal systems evaluation/audit to identify areas of improvement.  Evaluate and plan for corrective action.  Communicate support.

Week 3 – Use the tools.

  • Take the opportunity to incorporate a new quality tool into your regular mix.  You’ll likely see an ongoing issue in a new way.
  • Setup training for staff that may not usually use quality tools and show them how they can be incorporated into the efficiency of their work and personal lives.
  • Purchase a copy of the Quality Toolbox f or all managers.

Week 4 – Keep it going.

  • Quality isn’t something we should only recognize for one month during the year. Continuous improvement is, in fact, the core of what quality means.
  • Continue with regular training of all staff in various quality principles and keep everyone in the organization informed regarding quality initiatives and progress.
  • Setup a World Quality Month planning committee to organize events for next year!

'Less prone to garbling': Biden campaign's 'quality over quantity' short speech strategy for president draws ridicule online

W ASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden 's re-election campaign promoted their decision to keep the octogenarian's speeches and public appearances short ahead of the election day to focus on "quality over quantity."

In an interview on MSNBC on Saturday, May 4, host Michael Steele asked about the new strategy to Biden's principal deputy campaign manager, Quentin Fulks, as per Fox News . Steele, the former RNC chair, deemed it "a very smart idea" that would help the president focus on points with clarity without getting sidetracked.

"Our campaign believes in quality over quantity. We believe that these touches, these smaller things that are getting directly to the point about what is going on in the stakes of this election are going to be easier for voters to tap into," Fulks said.

The deputy campaign manager also emphasized the necessity of electing Biden, arguing Trump wanted to be a dictator on day one . "We have to just remove all of the clutter and get directly to the message to make it easy for voters to follow, understand, go out and communicate," he added.

Joe Biden's short speeches

Biden conducted fewer sit-down press interviews compared to his recent predecessors.

The 81-year-old's very recent speech at the White House correspondents' dinner was only 10 minutes long, where he called the media to "rise up to the seriousness of the moment."

On May 2, he delivered a 4-minute speech in response to the violent pro-Palestine protests that spread across US campuses. He denounced antisemitism but voiced his support for the right to peaceful demonstrations. The president left the room after answering only two questions.

However, NBC News reported that the Biden campaign's less-is-more approach might be to prevent the president from making any potential mistakes, with only months left before the presidential election.

Biden has a history of stumbling and making multiple gaffes , especially when he gives longer speeches and answers unplanned questions from reporters.

The Daily Caller recently reported the president made 148 verbal mistakes during public remarks since the election year kickstarted this January.

According to TJ Ducklo, the campaign's senior adviser for communications, the new approach offered a "strategic advantage at this point in the race to boiling down your message to the three or four most salient, compelling arguments for why President Biden should be re-elected."

"That will often translate to the stump [speech] being whittled down to its sharpest, most dynamic form. That's what you're seeing," he added.

Internet trolls Joe Biden

Netizens ridiculed Biden over his campaign's strategy to shorten the president's public remarks.

One user wrote, "Less chance of breaking the gaffe meter." Another quipped, "Quality mumbling and grunting."

"Having a shortage on Red Bull, I think," a third user added. A fourth response read, "Suggest you switch over to 5th grade language. Shorter words less prone to garbling."

Another user said, "Actually just have him wave and say nothing, that would be their best bet."

"He finally realized that he can not remember as much as yesterday?" someone else wrote. An individual added, "Face it, when Joe opens his mouth, the DEM prospects go South."

Another user joked, "Lol. I'm sure this is because he is aiming for quality and not because he has zero stamina."

Net neutrality is back: U.S. promises fast, safe and reliable internet for all

The Federal Communications Commission has restored net neutrality rules that ban content providers from restricting bandwidth to customers.

Consumers can look forward to faster, safer and more reliable internet connections under the promises of newly reinstated government regulations.

The Federal Communications Commission voted 3-2 on Thursday to reclassify broadband as a public utility, such as water and electricity — to regulate access to the internet. The move to expand government oversight of internet service providers comes after the COVID-19 pandemic exposed the magnitude of the digital divide , forcing consumers to rely on high-speed internet for school and work, as well as social and health support.

What happened to the internet without net neutrality?

The Indicator from Planet Money

What happened to the internet without net neutrality.

Because the government deems internet access an essential service, the FCC is promising oversight as if broadband were a public utility. In doing so, the government aims to make providers more accountable for outages, require more robust network security, protect fast speeds, and require greater protections for consumer data.

The decision effectively restores so-called net neutrality rules that were first introduced during the Obama administration in 2015 and repealed two years later under President Trump.

The rules are sure to invite legal challenges from the telecoms industry — not for the first time. And a future administration could always undo the rules.

Meanwhile, net neutrality regulations are set to go into effect 60 days after their publication in the Federal Register.

But much has yet to be clarified about the rules: The 400-page draft order to restore the regulations has not been publicly released.

Here's what we do know.

What's net neutrality?

Net neutrality is a wonky term for the idea that the flow of information on the internet should be treated equally and that internet service providers can't interfere with what consumers do online.

Also referred to as an "open internet," net neutrality aims to level the digital marketplace, prohibiting internet service providers (ISPs) like Comcast and AT&T from running fast lanes and slow lanes — speeding up or slowing down internet speeds — for online services like Netflix and Spotify.

What's this latest battle about?

Without the net neutrality regulations in place, phone and internet companies have the power to block or favor some content over others. The issue has pit telecom companies against Big Tech. Net neutrality advocates — tech companies, consumer watchdogs and free speech activists among them — warn that without such regulations, broadband providers are incentivized to charge customers more to use internet fast lanes or else risk being stuck with slower speeds.

In recent years, the issue has largely become a partisan one. In 2015, the President Obama-appointed FCC chair ushered in the approval of net neutrality rules . Those rules were repealed two years later under President Trump after his pick to run the FCC called them "heavy-handed" in his pledge to end them.

Now, the return of FCC regulations has reinvigorated the net neutrality debate.

"Every consumer deserves internet access that is fast, open and fair," FCC chair Jessica Rosenworcel said ahead of Thursday's vote. "This is common sense."

As in 2015, the rules classify broadband as a utility service under Title II of the Communications Act of 1934.

The measure passed along party lines, with Democratic commissioners in favor of net neutrality and Republicans opposed.

What critics are saying

Opponents say the net neutrality rules are government overreach and interfere with commerce. In a letter to FCC chair Rosenworcel this week, a group of Republican lawmakers said the draft order to restore net neutrality regulations would chill innovation and investment in the broadband industry.

Dissenting FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr, a Republican, said that fears of a sluggish or pricey internet without the rules were overblown — that consumers benefited from faster speeds and lower prices since the repeal. Net neutrality advocates dispute the argument that broadband rates dropped when net neutrality went away, saying the numbers are misleading .

"There will be lots of talk about 'net neutrality' and virtually none about the core issue before the agency: namely, whether the FCC should claim for itself the freewheeling power to micromanage nearly every aspect of how the Internet functions — from the services that consumers can access to the prices that can be charged," Carr said in October, when the Biden administration proposed restoring net neutrality.

Some telecom companies argue that the FCC is trying to solve a nonexistent problem in its stated aim to preserve equal internet access for consumers.

"This is a nonissue for broadband consumers, who have enjoyed an open internet for decades," said Jonathan Spalter, the CEO of USTelecom, a trade group that represents ISPs such as AT&T and Verizon, in a statement following the vote to hand regulatory authority back to the FCC.

"We plan to pursue all available options, including in the courts," the group said.

What's happened when net neutrality went away?

What ended up happening in the years after the rollback went into effect in 2018 was so discreet that most people unlikely noticed its effects, says Stanford Law professor Barbara van Schewick, who directs the school's Center for Internet and Society and supports net neutrality.

For the past six years, she says, "a lot of public scrutiny on the ISPs and then the attempts to bring back net neutrality in Congress basically kept the ISPs on their best behavior."

Still, there were changes. Some ISPs implemented zero-rating plans, the practice of excluding some apps from data charges, she notes, or were caught throttling — intentionally slowing down consumer internet speeds.

Absent heightened federal regulation, tough net neutrality rules that sprang up in several states, including California , Washington and Oregon, also have continued to keep internet service providers in check.

"It's still being litigated," van Schewick says. "And so, it is fair to say we haven't seen a world without net neutrality."

Preparing to Celebrate National Hospital Week and National Nurses Week: A Thank You to the Caregivers Who Make Our Lives Better

Rick Pollack Perspective 900x400 12-2023

In just a few days, we’ll kick off important recognitions for National Hospital Week , May 12-18, and National Nurses Week , May 6-12.

Nurses, physicians, technicians, pharmacists, therapists, IT and environmental services professionals along with many others work each and every day to provide life-saving care and essential services to their communities. They also are at the forefront of innovation and leading the charge to advance health for patients and communities.

Throughout the recognition weeks, the AHA will be amping up our efforts to highlight the vital role hospitals, nurses and caregivers play in our society. We’ll be running print and digital advertisements, spotlighting inspiring and moving stories on social media, and bolstering hospitals and health systems’ efforts to tell their own stories.

To do that, we’ve created new resources to provide access to creative and customizable content to help amplify the amazing work being done by hospitals and health systems across the country.

  • Digital and Social Media Resources : You can download our National Hospital Week digital toolkit and social media graphics that you can use leading up to National Hospital Week and during the week. AHA members can add their own branding to the content.
  • Radio Public Service Announcements : AHA has created a 15-second and 30-second radio public service announcement (PSA) celebrating National Hospital Week and thanking our communities for trusting us with their care. Additionally, AHA members can download a PSA audio template and add a customized quote, creating a PSA for you to distribute locally.
  • #WeAreHealthCare : AHA’s ongoing social media campaign spotlights workers from different areas within hospitals and health systems such as nursing, food services, human resources and environmental services, and shares their own powerful stories about why they went into health care and the role they play in caring for patients.

At the same time, the Coalition to Strengthen America’s Healthcare  — of which the AHA is a founding member — will boost these efforts through its broader media campaign reflecting the positive role hospitals and health systems play in ensuring patient access to 24/7 care.

As we get ready to celebrate National Hospital Week and National Nurses Week, please take a few minutes to watch this video that beautifully captures the level of care that happens every minute of every hour of every day at every hospital in every community in America.

In it, you will hear from Diana — who suffered from substance use disorders while pregnant — and who shared her gratitude for the model of care that led her to being “built up instead of being torn down … making her a better mom.”

And Olivia’s parents — whose care team treating their young child with leukemia assured them that “you’ve gained an entire family here” … and whose dad was so moved by the “level of care that people give to absolute strangers.”

Let that sink in. Because that’s what hospitals and their care teams do every single day. The AHA thanks you —  and our nation thanks you — for all you do to advance health in America.
