Welcome to Our School
Scoil Chroí Íosa, known locally as the Pres, continues a tradition of education which the Presentation Sisters began in 1815. Our school welcomes all to a happy, safe and supportive learning environment, inspired by Christian values in the Presentation tradition, where all feel equal, respected and valued.
We place a huge emphasis on the creative arts, active learning and bringing local and national expertise into the classroom., as you browse through our website i hope you get a sense of how actively engaged the children are in learning through the arts, gardening, woodwork, music, physical activity, mindfulness, play and art therapy, yoga, cookery and much more. we have created partnerships with many local and national organisations to ensure the children are exposed to a wide variety of stimuli and experiences. we continue to transform the physical environment of the school to stimulate creative thinking, from our wonderful library to our glorious garden, here's what the department of education inspectors had to say about our school and wellbeing when they visited in 2018:, " the overall quality of support for pupils’ well-being is very good. a caring and inclusive atmosphere exists and pupils’ holistic development is catered for very effectively. pupil voice is fostered very effectively through initiatives such as the student council, which has positively influenced decisions to improve pupil well-being. the role of the hscl teacher is carried out to a high standard. a broad range of initiatives to support the link between the school and the community and to include parents are in place. a very good range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are provided for pupils to develop a wide range of skills and talents, many of them voluntarily by the teachers and other stakeholders. '', let's get active.
THIS YEAR WE'LL BE CONCENTRATING ON SOCCER, OLYMPIC HANDBALL AND MORE IN A BID TO STAY ACTIVE. WE HOPE TO ACHIEVE THE ACTIVE SCHOOL FLAG OVER THE NEXT TWO YEARS. EMPHASIS WILL BE ON PARTICIPATION AND FUN, HEALTHY EATING AND DAILY EXERCISE. WE ARE ENTERED IN THE FAI 5 A SIDES INTERSCHOOL COMPETITION. Schoil Chroí Iosa wins Baboró Above and Beyond Award
BY KERNAN ANDREWS Galway Advertiser, Thu, Oct 26, 2017
The Presentation Primary School, Scoil Chroí Íosa on Newcastle Road, has won Baboró’s ‘Above & Beyond' award, in recognition of the "outstanding work" the school does in using the creative arts in the everyday teaching of the curriculum.
The Baboró International Arts Festival for Children, which recently concluded its latest run, presented the award to Scoil Chroí Íosa, which is located on the Newcastle Road, for "conscious decision to integrate the creative arts at the core of its teaching and learning", under the stewardship of its principal, Colin Barry.
Baboró executive artistic director, Aislinn ÓhEocha said the festival was "delighted to recognise the outstanding work" of Scoil Chroí Íosa, and that Colin Barry and "his dedicated staff, have gone above and beyond to inject a love of the arts in its pupils.”
On receiving the award Colin Barry said: “To receive the Baboró Above and Beyond award is an incredible achievement for our school and also validation for the huge efforts made by staff, parents, and our partners in arts education. We endeavour to ensure every child has opportunities to express his/herself creatively through visual art, music, drama, and thematic learning. Lessons learned through arts education are valuable life lessons that will hopefully allow children to be better equipped when facing challenges in later life."
Introduced in 2011, the Above & Beyond award was created by Baboró to recognise and reward inspiring individuals, organisations or communities who go ‘Above & Beyond’ to create a culture of creativity which encourages children to access the arts.

We bought 15m of horizontal wall boards from SmallWall. From the moment that I contacted the SmallWall office until the boards were in place the experience could not have been easier. Seán gave excellent help at all stages and no query was left unanswered. The climbing boards are of excellent quality and are extremely safe. The pupils in St Joseph’s have not stopped using them since they were installed. There is a queue every day at breaktime. I have no hesitation recommending SmallWall.

The climbing wall is amazing and such a huge hit with the children. They love taking part and it is a great core workout that everyone can complete. We use it during PE and we have even extended it’s use to our Infant classes who climb with a buddy from 6th helping

SmallWall are a fantastic company to deal with from start to finish. Our climbing wall was installed in the shelter and has given something fun to do on the wet days. It has given a great slash of colour to our playing area and it’s wonderful to see the children improving their strength and pace since it was fitted.

Safefood Community Food Initiative 2019-2021
The purpose of the safefood Community Food Initiative 2019-2021 is to promote healthy eating among families with children up to the age of 12 years. Through the Healthy Galway City programme, Galway City Partnership was successful in securing funding under this initiative, which will allow for the delivery of two community events and two small projects, each year, for three years. This is of significant importance as Healthy Eating is a key theme of the Healthy Galway City Strategy.
The Healthy Food Made Easy Programme
Healthy Food Made Easy (HFME) is a 6-week programme which provides participants with practical information on healthy eating, including, reading food labels, budgeting and meal planning. Participants also have the opportunity to improve cooking skills and experiment with dishes that are quick and easy to prepare.
As COVID-19 restrictions have prevented us from delivering HFME programmes in the community, we have developed an online version to support participants to prepare healthy and nutritious meals for themselves and their families, from the comfort and safety of their own homes.
Online HFME programmes will be rolled out from February 2021. For more information contact Ashling on 085 8217547 or email [email protected] .
