I am extremely glad at the fact that our school committee members as well as teachers are putting in every effort to teach the highest lessons in education and moral example. On this important occasion, we get a chance to publicly celebrate this success achieved through the sheer hard work and perseverance of both our students as well as teachers.

Our students have not only excelled in academics but are also very good at extra-curricular activities like sports, drama, artworks, organizing school events, and many other things. Not all of the students will have achieved A’s or B’s in every discipline, though hopefully, they will report to you the positive lessons they’ve learned in every field and the ones they’ve excelled at. They have not only made us proud but brought accolades to our school and have given it a good reputation in our ( geographic region ), thus adding extra feather to its cap.

Students like you are responsible for the continuous growth and development of our school in combined efforts with the extremely proficient teachers. You all deserve credit.

Our school has constantly received attention from local media and has hosted the visits of some famous ex-pupils, from well-known institutions on TV, national as well as overseas. Most of the visitors have even returned to pay multiple visits to our school. Feedback received from the visiting guests has always been positive. This certainly wouldn’t have been possible without our committed staff members and responsible students of this school. I express my heartfelt gratitude to the principal, teachers, and parents for their support and collective efforts towards the development of these young talents, grooming them to achieve something worthwhile in life and above all, raising them the right way. Whatever our students have achieved so far would never have been possible without your constant endeavor.

I am extremely pleased to recognize and mention that the contribution of each and everyone present here has excelled in the school and themselves. So I thank you all for having come together and supporting pupils and our efforts at this ceremony.

Speech for Students on Last day of Term

Good Day! Today is the most important day in my school. Yes, it is the Last Day of Term and the time to wrap up all that we have done in the year. A year that is about to end and a holiday is about to begin before the next new term. Our school, venue of many activities and a place where we learn a whole wide range of subjects that include the academic ones like science and Maths to the practical and physical like Art and Sports.

The year ( … ) has indeed been a roller coaster just like the previous years. A time full of opportunities, full of learning, and a period of academic and personal growth; learning and enjoying time with friends have been enjoyable. Being competitive at times and lending a helping hand at others, it indeed has been a rewarding period, that will leave it’s stamp in our fond memories.

The best part is friends that, we, together have been able to progress in our chosen areas. We have shown everyone that we are apt at teamwork and capable of passing exams – even if not all. It is a time to celebrate and enjoy our achievements together. Here we are, to display to our parents that we children, can give in our best when the teachers show us the way and nurture our talent, give us a conducive environment where we can grow, not just physically, but mentally and socially as well.

Under the guidance of knowledgeable teachers, we have put up this show together for all our parents for this very special day, our End of Term Day. It is a program, our parents can feast their eyes on dance, poetry, singing, theatre and a talk show. Children of Junior School have put up a musical version of the most adorable book by Rudyard Kipling, The Jungle Book.

On this Last day of Term, we have included a new theme: a set of games that the children and parents will play as a team. It is sure to be an excitable and enjoyable activity and we are all going to enjoy it; children and parents on one side and teachers and school staff on another.

Simple games like egg and spoon race, three-legged race and relay races are organized for later on on the sports field. I am sure we will all participate wholeheartedly and parents are a huge support and will hopefully enjoy the event as much as we students.

We have to thank the Head Mistress for her support in organizing the event. She is a wonderful person; she loved the theme and immediately gave her consent.

Time now to begin the program and our esteemed guests are invited to kick-off events. There are refreshments arranged in the school cafeteria after sports and activities.

The time is now parents. Come with us and lets be the end of term celebrations with jovial vigor as this day only comes but once a year.

Rewards are a way to encourage good behavior and a competitive spirit. This is the reason why our school organizes award function every year to encourage its students. So today we are here to give awards mainly in six categories which include excellence in academics, sports and arts, participating in school exhibitions, participating in debates and other social events. The awards being distributed today are being given not only to recognize those students who have excelled in their academic field but also to honor those students who have excelled in sports, He excelled in performing arts and visual arts and was active in various social events. Ladies and Gentlemen, our media partners, sponsors, distinguished officials and our talented athletes! I welcome all of you to the sports award ceremony of this institution.

It is my privilege to have the opportunity to host this event which is celebrated to celebrate the achievements of our teams, officials and athletes. This ceremony showcases the commitment of all the members which they showed in the sports competition of December 2016 last year. Last year was indeed a very busy year for all of us as we worked hard to make this competition a success. Our young athletes have competed and achieved success in all four major sports – table tennis, karate, cycling and indoor football. We are extremely proud of your achievements.

Today we are here to announce the lucky winners of 12 major awards and to celebrate the victories of our lauded awardees. Congratulations to all the players who played in the final games. You have definitely set the standards of sports high for the other sportspersons of this institution. We hope you achieve success in your respective sports career and other fields as well.

Babe Ruth has rightly said, “When a team plays together perfectly, its success is certain. You may have different big stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club wins.” Will never get lucky.” Our football team has proved that when players play together, victory in the game is certain. Due to its great efforts the team bagged the second prize at the national level event held in Pune and gave another chance to make our organization proud.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I would like to commend the efforts of our esteemed Board members, National Sports Federation, Sports Clubs of the city and in particular the members of the National Olympic Council, who have made efforts to make this day a success, where sports have made their mark. The players who put their lives are honoured.

I am SS, your host of this award evening, and today on behalf of PQR School, I extend a warm welcome to all of you. It is a matter of honor and happiness for us where you are being rewarded as well as appreciating the hard work performed by the students of class X in the board exams.

Education is not a matter within the four walls of the classroom and our school is very fortunate to have teachers and coaches who recognize this. In fact if the building and the teacher are the two pillars of any school then all of you students are definitely the third pillar.

PQR, the school believes in motivating the students as it believes that when they are motivated they will work harder in future and surely their performance will improve. This is the reason why the High School Award Ceremony is organized every year to reward the students who make the school proud. Today, we are here to announce the lucky winners of the 12 main awards and also for applauding the victory of our commendable award recipients. A huge congratulations to all the finalists, you have definitely set a very admiring benchmark for other sports persons of this institution to imitate. I would now like to cordially welcome the Directors, Principal Madam, Committee members of the school to the Award ceremony.

I heartily extend my gratitude towards the parents and the teachers who have put in a lot of efforts in grooming and developing the personalities of the young talents present with us this evening as our finalists.

Last but not at all the least, I would like to welcome all the judges who have assessed, analyzed each candidate and could make the valuable decision of selecting the “Student of the Year” of ——– School.

Award Acceptance Speech Samples

Winning an award is quite shocking in itself, and to give an acceptance speech thereafter can fluster you thoroughly. Here, we provide some sample award acceptance speeches that will help you overcome your shock and surprise, and deliver a good speech. Take a look.

So you have been nominated for an award, and you think your chances of winning are high. Of course, every nominee has that thought and as much as they say that there’s no chance that they are going to win, everyone secretly practices their award speeches and their graceful acceptance of the award. While in your head your thoughts are clear and you know exactly what you are going to say, when you actually win the award, things are different. As much as you wanted to win it, you find yourself flustered, scared, shocked, and sort of numb. All those speeches you had practiced are forgotten. As much as you don’t want that to happen, and want to be that person who can crack jokes and elicit a little laugh from the audience upon giving your acceptance speech, just consider the occurrence of the aforementioned scenario likely. In any case, there are always some sample award speeches you can go through, along with some tips on keeping your cool so that you can give the acceptance speech exactly as you had imagined it.

How to Give an Award Acceptance Speech A little charm is all you want, to bedazzle your audience, when you go up to accept the award and follow it up with a speech. How do you go about doing that? Let’s take a look.

• Start by looking good on the day. When you win an award, you will definitely be in the limelight. Whether the award is for scoring well on a subject at the year end in school, or for employee of the year, dress well.
• When your name is called out, go and accept your award graciously. Then, head to the podium to make your award speech.
• Your job is to make a good connection with the audience. Start by thanking the ‘jury’ for the award, followed by a thanks for everyone who has helped you win this award. This does not mean you include your pet’s name in the speech too. You can mention how shocking it is for you to receive the award, but don’t do that unless it comes from within. In some cases, it just looks forced.
• Your speech has to be short. You cannot stretch it for anything longer than two minutes, else it will get boring. Think of how you would feel as a part of the audience, if an award winner would just not stop talking about what his award means to him.

While these were some basic tips on writing a good award speech, here are two samples that will give you an idea about giving an excellent speech.

All in all, an award acceptance speech has to be given straight from the heart. No matter how much you read up and how much you practice, it is the flood of emotions at that particular moment that directs your speech. If you can be funny, feel free to add a dash of humor to your speech. Just don’t crack jokes that will dampen the audience’s mood. If you think you can’t be funny, keep it simple, and you will do just fine. All the best!

Ellenville Central School District students receive awards in Black History Month Contest

M ay 12—Ellenville Central School District students were presented with certificates and monetary prizes for their participation in the Ellenville NAACP's annual Black History Month Contest during an awards ceremony that took place the Junior/Senior High School on Tuesday, March 5.

This year's contestants presented speeches from African Americans they found inspiring. Fourteen students participated and chose a variety of speakers, including Maya Angelou, Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth, Barack Obama, and many others.

A panel of judges, which included Ellenville staff, Board of Education members, and two students, evaluated the contest participants on their poise, engagement of audience, voice, and diction during their speeches. Finalists from each age category battled it out in a final round.

All contestants were given certificates for their participation, and awards were given in three categories: Grades 1-3, Grades 4-6, and Grades 7-8. First-place winners were awarded $50 each, while second-place winners earned $25 prizes.

Winners in the Grades 1-3 category were Alfonsina Nunes Galindo (Grade 2), who won first place, and Violet Kentop (Grade 3), who earned second place. For the Grades 4-6 category, Messiah Forbes (Grade 5) received first place, and Shazia Zaara (Grade 6) won second place. In the Grades 7-8 category Maegan Wright (Grade 8) was awarded first place, and William Turner (Grade 8) was awarded second place. The Art Award was given to Shazia Zaara.

Nunes Galindo chose to deliver a short speech from Angelou titled "Be a Rainbow in Somebody Else's Cloud." Forbes chose to deliver the 2023 Juneteenth message from U.S. Rep. Alma Adams, D-North Carolina. Wright chose to deliver activist Fannie Lou Hamer's speech before Congress about voter registration in 1964.

Each of the young orators gave impassioned speeches and used emphatic gestures while maintaining eye contact with the audience.

Ellenville NAACP Treasurer Georgeanna "Gammy" Singer praised the students who participated in the contest. Singer said, "It is encouraging to see the wide participation from the many students who enter the Black History Month Contest every year, and we are grateful to the teachers and administrators who support them."

2023-2024 Outstanding First Year Advocate Award Recipients  

First Year Experience is honored to announce the recipients of the 2023-2024 Outstanding First Year Advocate Award . 

The Outstanding First Year Advocate Award recognizes faculty, staff, and student leaders who have made significant contributions to the academic and/or personal lives of first year students. The award allows the community to recognize individuals who have demonstrated a specific commitment to and impact on first year student learning, development and success. 

This year’s recipients are faculty members Anne DeFelippo (Nursing) and Noel Healy (Geography and Sustainability); staff members Ashleyne Alexis (Center for Academic Excellence) and Anne Collins (Marketing); and student leaders Onyx Dziuba (Residence Life) and Erika Pen (ASA President). 

This is the 12th year that First Year Experience has recognized members of the campus community for their exceptional contributions to student transition and persistence. Recipients are awarded a token of recognition, recognized at Convocation in the fall, and have their names engraved in a plaque outside of the First Year Experience office. 

Nominations this year spoke to the impact that the recipients had on student's ability to not only succeed in the classroom but throughout their overall campus experience.  Themes throughout the statements included the recipients helping students feel comfortable and valued, demonstrating true care for students, providing consistent information about available resources, and helping to inspire a love of learning.

A special thank you to last year’s recipients Lisa Bibeau (Disability Services), Will Reagan (STEP Mentor), Claire McCarthy (English), and Carole Rizzo (Navigation Center) who served as members of the selection committee this year. Exceptional nominations were submitted, primarily from students themselves, which made the decision extremely challenging.

Willow Cabral on the PSA's importance, and its transformative growth this year

While SCARP’s student community have always shown tremendous spirit and camaraderie, this past year especially has shown an extraordinary revival of momentum. 

This is in no small part due to the Planning Students Association at SCARP, this past year under the leadership of the tireless and inspiring Willow Cabral and PSA’s formidable executive team. 

We spoke with Willow about this past year at SCARP and everything it’s meant:

Let’s start with the question for the newest among us: what  is the PSA?

The Planning Student Association is a student run group elected by SCARP students that act as a student council. The PSA throws events throughout the year, offers resources, and welcomes new students. 

Its work is driven by a desire to create a strong sense of community for students during their time at SCARP, and to re-bridge connections with SCARP alumni to strengthen collaborative bonds in the planning community. 

The PSA also plays a strong role in student advocacy, with a goal of leaving a legacy of continued positive change and improvement of the student experience.

Why is it important for students to engage with the PSA? How are some of the ways students can be a part of your vision for the School?

Just like planning is rooted in principles of community engagement, openness, continued life-long learning, and positive change-making, our student experience is driven and enhanced by those we learn, think, and share with. Recognizing the importance of connection and community, the PSA helps to build life-long bonds within and between cohorts as the next generation of planners. 

Through engagement with the PSA, students have access to valuable SCARP-tailored social and professional experiences and opportunities. All are welcome to join in on PSA programming and events — diversity and inclusion are what makes communities most vibrant, including ours!

Just like planning is rooted in principles of community engagement, openness, continued life-long learning, and positive change-making, our student experience is driven and enhanced by those we learn, think, and share with.

It sounds like PSA has quite a history. Can you tell us a little of PSA’s story?  

The PSA has always been a collection of motivated students that are dedicated to serving the SCARP student community. Unfortunately, much of the shared memory of the PSA and its historic accomplishments were lost during the pandemic, which also interrupted traditions like the annual student-run Symposium.   

As far as my personal story with the PSA, student group-based collaborative experiences have been at the heart of my educational, personal, and professional growth: I’ve had a variety of fantastic experiences in student groups and societies during my undergrad at the University of Toronto. 

Coming to UBC SCARP, I felt no different: I knew I wanted to get involved somehow. 

In my first year, I became the PSA’s representative for the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and formatted the newest PSA student orientation handbook, and enjoyed having an introduction to SCARP and the PSA. When I and other members of my cohort noticed disconnects in the student experience, I felt a strong sense of personal duty to serve as an advocate and had lots of ideas for how to make that change happen, which led me to put my name forward for PSA President.   

The main goals we had coming into this year were to motivate change and build community. With a team of amazing and dedicated fellow SCARPies on the PSA, we were able to make progress towards and realize many of these goals – including more engagement between and within cohorts, more opportunities for social and professional experiences (including revival of the SCARP Symposium after a 5-year hiatus!), and more collaboration with SCARP for improvements in the student experience. 

I’m proud of the PSA and what we’ve accomplished, and am excited to pass on the torch to the newly-elected PSA – their cohort is full of incredible change-makers and I know the PSA will thrive and continue to evolve under their leadership!  

What’s been your favourite moment at PSA this year? 

A few fond moments come to mind! 

The first is from our very first PSA meeting. Another goal this year was to make the PSA welcoming and accessible to first-years, and it was so exciting to have the WMAX Lounge filled to the brim with bright-eyed first- and second-years alike. The PSA is a body that can connect the cohorts, and this year was a testament to that, with continued collaboration (and many friendships forged!).  

Another is the PSA Trivia Night, which helped to connect the cohorts with a humour-filled game of friendly competition and planner-ly trivia.   

My favourite moment, however, has to be the long-awaited 2024 SCARP Symposium. The PSA Symposium Committee put a lot of sweat and tears into the Symposium's making, and it was a pleasure to see how it meaningfully brought together our regional planning community for a day of shared learning, food, and connection. 

Post-pandemic  it’s especially a challenge to gather in place, and yet one of the cornerstones of planning is networking and partnership. What can you tell us about PSA’s journey not just to keep the PSA boat afloat, but to invite people in SCARP and the larger BC community to gather in community in your revived Symposium?  

One of our goals for the year was consistency – we wanted to provide planned opportunities for fun, learning, and connection at least once a month. The pandemic reminded us of the value and importance of in-person connection, not only personally and professionally, but also in education.   

This was a driving factor behind our revival of the annual SCARP Symposium too. The planning community thrives when we work and share with one another. Many of us felt disconnected from the local and regional planning communities, and we also noticed a lack of student-led programming in planning spaces and conversations.  

That’s how the 2024 SCARP Symposium, with a theme of “ (re)Connecting Communities: People, Places, and Planners Together ,” was conceptualized and brought to fruition, through several committees of highly dedicated student organizers. In particular, I’d like to recognize and appreciate the leadership and dedication of Maya Korbynn, Analisa Ruiz, and Ning Yan in making sure the Symposium was as successful as it was. 

During and after the event, we heard phenomenal feedback from attendees of all backgrounds – students and professionals alike — that attending the 2024 SCARP Symposium provided them with much-needed inspiration, reinvigoration, and community-building within the field .

Don’t be afraid to lean on your community for support whenever you may find you need it!

PSA’s Symposium was fantastic, with extraordinary speakers, talks, turnout, and conversation.  Would you like to tell those who couldn’t make it how it went? And those who did make it how it went on your end, behind the scenes?   

For sure! The day was a huge success and a whole lot of fun – it featured an inspiring opening keynote from PIBC President Emilie Adin, 3 break-out sessions sprinkled throughout the day with 10 exciting and diverse session offerings (including workshops, panels, seminars, and even a talking circle!), and an entertaining and reflective closing keynote by video creator and planning educator Uytae Lee. The event was held across five rooms in UBC’s Robson Square in downtown Vancouver. 

The day included ample break time for attendees to mix, mingle, and make connections in the planning industry. It felt amazing to see the spirit of community and collaboration that we centered in our event planning manifest.

Behind the scenes, we had super-organizer Analisa coordinating with all of our volunteer roles, which included registration, catering and venue coordination, AV and tech, panel liaisons and moderators, photography, and more – and that’s just from the day-of! A lot of work went into planning this event between regularly-scheduled PSA meetings throughout the school year where we had to start at the base point of figuring out logistics – when and where? Theme and tagline? Potential topics and panelists? Sponsorships? Catering? Design materials? Marketing? Ticket sales? Pricing? Collaboration with PIBC and other institutions? 

We deliberated on these questions over the last 6 months, and while our footing in the planning process felt slippery at times (a natural part of the event-planning process I’m told), the dedication of the Symposium Committee made sure the event went off without a hitch in the end!  

You now hand the reigns over to a new administration of elected students (and congrats to the new PSA president Jackson Spring), and a new cohort of  students will soon arrive at SCARP. What advice or inspiration would you like to give them about how to keep your tremendous momentum going?

Don’t give up and keep going! 

Community is at the center of all things – determining goals, directing action, finding support, and celebrating achievements. 

Momentum and success are fostered by a dedicated, kind, and empathetic team environment that welcomes and invites people to work together. 

I learned the hard way that taking on too much without enough mindful moments, rest, and self-compassion is an express ticket to burnout, so being intentional with self-care and realistic about your capacity and bandwidth are vital. 

Willow Cabral will graduate later this month, after tremendous service to her fellow students and SCARP’s future. We hope to have a flourishing collaboration with her as she embarks on her journey as an alumna and a professional planner!
