Long Essay on A Football Match 500 Words for Kids and Students in English

Matches are an essential part of sports. They give rise to competitive spirit and sportsmanship. Moreover, matches are a kind of get-together where players, apart from playing and displaying their physical stamina, exchange ideas and information and have free and frank discussions among themselves.

Recently, I got the opportunity to witness a football match that was played between Khalsa Higher Secondary School, Qadian and DAV Senior Secondary School, Delhi. The match was played at the playgrounds of SN College. The entire ground was swept clean and the sides decorated. There were chairs on one side and rest of the ground was open for the spectators. Both the teams were in high spirits. They were dressed in their school colours. Both seemed to be equally strong. The spectators were expecting a well-contested and lively game. The ground and its surroundings were jampacked. The match started at 5 p.m. sharp.

Essay on A Football Match

The DAV team won the toss and chose the favourable side. Soon the referee blew the whistle and the match started. They were hopeful of scoring the goal. During the first few minutes, the DAV team dominated. They penetrated into the defences of their rival team but could not score any goal. Anyhow, their splendid performance puzzled the Khalsa Higher Secondary School team and the latter resorted to a rough game. They began kicking the ball at random. But the captain did not lose heart and encouraged his team. So the team was reinvigorated. The Khalsa team soon recovered their lost position and in the heat of the moment they scored a goal. There was thunderous applause when the goal was scored. The whole team was cheered by their supporters. But at the same time, the right half of DAV team was badly injured and the captain had to play the double role throughout the entire game. Soon the referee blew a long whistle and the first half was declared to be over.

Then, the players took some rest and refreshments. There was a loud noise in the playground as the supporters of both the teams rushed to their respective sides in order to cheer them and encourage them.

Again, the referee whistled and the match started. Now, the DAV team tightened their belts and played with determination. The goalkeeper of DAV team also became very alert. In the first few moments, the Khalsa team put pressure on the DAV team; their left half made three hits one after another at the goal of DAV but the goalkeeper of DAV team showed his extraordinary skill by kicking the ball back. At the end moment the DAV side took the ball to their rival side and within no time, their left half gave a pass to right half and the right half kicked the ball straight into the goal and the goal was scored. Now it became a drawn game which delighted the DAV team also and this served to boost their morale. There were loud cheers from their supporters.

Now, the game was passing through a crucial stage. Each side was trying its best to score a goal but soon the time was over and the exciting finale was synchronised with the scoring of a goal by Khalsa team over DAV team. This was a surprising feat that created a great sensation. The winning team received deafening cheers from its supporters while the other spectators admired the courage and sporting spirit shown by both the teams. It was really an exciting match and the spectators appeared to have enjoyed it very much.

Should College Football Players Be Paid Essay

College football is a great business that brings millions of dollars and provides coaches with high salaries. Athletes train hard to present their universities and receive career opportunities. However, they should not be paid for it as they already receive scholarships or grants and have all the training facilities. Many other students contribute to their colleges and don’t receive payment either. Sports scholarships give many opportunities to talented athletes. Some of them cover all the costs of education and living expenses. Education is not cheap in the United States – even half of the annual payment is a significant sum. Football scholarships offer a “full-ride” for the students who participate in Football Bowl Subdivision. That is why they graduate without loans and don’t have to work during college. Moreover, they can receive a degree and sports opportunities after graduation, thanks to the scholarships. Funding can be considered as payment for their hard work and dedication. All the sports facilities on campus are relatively expensive. Colleges pay for the equipment and its maintenance so that athletes can use it all for free. Football athletes have a place to train, coaches, psychologists, and recognition. All this creates perfect conditions for working out and concentration. Of course, it is an investment, and colleges also earn money on selling tickets, drinks, snacks, and merchandise. As for students, the ability to train and play are the investments in their future careers.

Essay on Concussions in Football

Concussions are the most frequent traumas in American football. While uniforms’ design should protect the athletes, it is still a valid problem. Repeated concussions can cause chronic traumatic encephalopathy that results in brain deterioration and mass loss. The symptoms include memory loss, impulsive behavior, depression, and even dementia. Why are safety measures during training so necessary? It is hard to notice CTE during the first stages. An athlete could not spot the first symptoms for months, years, or even decades. JAMA published a study that shows that among 202 deceased former football players, 177 had CTE. It is hard to imagine, but safety and proper care could have saved the lives and health of those athletes. Such measures as rapid screening, adequate rest, and regular mental health screens should be integral parts of every football player’s life. They also should not return to play the same day the concussion was diagnosed and gradually return to sports. Full recovery takes up to two weeks for adults and up to a month for kids. We need to work on risky behavior. Coaches and healthcare providers have to educate football players on concussions and possible consequences from a young age. While it is impossible to control the risks during competitions fully, it can be achievable during training. It should be every team’s goal to prevent injuries during pre-season practice…

The International English Language Testing System or IELTS is an English language proficiency test taken for study, migration, or work. The test comprises four sections: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Coming from a country where our mother tongue is not the English language, it can get tricky to ace the speaking exam.

This article will decode the key differences between a high-scored essay and a low-scored one to understand how you can practice and achieve that high band. The topic that this IELTS cue Card discusses is Describe A Live Sports Match That You Watched.

I have always been a die-hard fan of sports, particularly cricket, throughout my life. Ace cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, was my icon, and I still remember how much I cried the day he retired. Over the years, I have watched several matches on the ground with my family and friends. However, there was one such match that struck a chord with me.

I remember I was in the tenth standard when the final match between India and Pakistan was held in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2007. It was the first time T20 World Cup was held. I was particularly excited to see how India performed as my second favorite cricketer, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was leading India.

India had chosen to bat first in the final match, which I felt was reasonable. Gautam Gambhir began the innings and gave 75 runs over 52 balls, despite India losing wickets at close intervals. Moreover, Rohit Sharma also aced India to catch up to a competitive score of 157 over 5 wickets in 20 overs.

Luckily, Pakistan also lost a lot of wickets even though Imran Nazir made some awe-inspiring shots. The final over kept us going and shocked us when India won by a meager 5 runs. What a save, I must say! All in all, I enjoyed that my country won under the leadership of a top player like MS Dhoni. The entire team played well, and it was their hard work that brought the trophy home.

To this day, this was my favorite experience of a live sports match.

I have watched many live sports matches. I loved them as I spent time with my parents or friends who usually accompanied me. Out of all such outings, my favorite is the live football matches I got to watch. Although it is not as popular in India as other games like cricket or badminton, I thoroughly enjoy football and look forward to these matches.

My elder brother and his college team played one such game against a rival college team. My brother was the captain of his college team. It was a make-or-break situation, as the team that lost the game would be disqualified from the tournament. This was the first time their college team had come this far in the game, so there was no going back.

I sat in the front row with my mother as both the teams entered the grounds. We both hooted for my brother as he looked at us and smiled.

The game had three rounds, and the team that won two or more rounds qualified further. Unfortunately, my brother’s team could not score a goal in the first round, and this was a significant setback for the team. Thus, my mother went to my brother's room and encouraged my brother. Her motivation was enough for him to sail his team to win through the second round. Although it was a challenging situation, my brother's team won with some smart decisions and solid teamwork. This was one of the happiest moments for my brother as a team captain, and I was so glad I could celebrate with him. Till date, this remains my favorite live match.

IELTS IDIOMS GUIDE

Where can you watch live matches these days?

With the help of technology- televisions and mobile phones, you can today watch live matches from the comfort of your homes. All you need to do is subscribe to the channel and pay a certain amount, and you can easily watch the entire match with the stadium audience. However, when possible, you should still watch a match in the stadium as it fills you with adrenaline and leaves you more moved than watching from a screen.

What was the atmosphere like when watching a live match in a stadium?

The feeling of a live match at a stadium is delightful since the stadiums and grounds bring thousands of people together. Whether there’s happiness that your team is winning or if there is a tense environment with the team struggling to score, all of it is amazing.

Personal Experience and Impressions of Watching a Football Match Essay

  • To find inspiration for your paper and overcome writer’s block
  • As a source of information (ensure proper referencing)
  • As a template for you assignment

I watched a live soccer game between Manchester United football club and Aston Villa football club as broadcasted by Manchester United TV on the internet. The match was played on the 12 th of December 2009 at 3pm local time for a period of 90 minutes plus a few extra minutes. The venue of the match was Old Trafford; a football stadium located in London with a capacity of 50,000 seats thus its ability to accommodate a considerable percentage of football fans. It is owned and managed by Manchester United. The outcome of the soccer game was 0-1 in favor of Aston Villa football club.

The offensive tactics of the game were varied as seen in the desire of each team to outclass the other. Manchester United’s focused on deploying two strikers that is Wayne Rooney and Dimitiar Berbatov to the flanks leading to Aston Villa’s goal post. These two strikers were served with long shots from mid fielders like Darren Fletcher and Ryan Giggs. Immediately Rooney and Berbatov received the ball they interchanged positions thus confusing Aston Villa’s defenders. This technique was also aimed at beating the offside track. The perfect result of such actions would have been a goal however Aston Villa’s tactics proved to be more effective. Another offensive tactic utilized by Manchester United was evident during free kicks and corners as seen in the manner in which the ball was directed towards the mid field with the aim of starting a fresh attack. The defensive tactics were seen in the coordination of efforts between Wes Brown and Vidic who guarded the flanks from the speed and talent exhibited by Aston Villa players.

The offensive Tactics utilized by Aston Villa basically incorporated the use of low passes and counter attacking mechanisms such that immediately Manchester United lost the ball while attacking Aston Villa rushed to counter attack before reorganization of the defense team took place. These attacks were carried out by Young and Agbonlahor. The defensive techniques utilized by Aston Villa basically incorporated strengthening of the midfield in a tactic known as playing defensively in the mid field. This restricts Manchester United’s players from accessing the last quarter of the area to Aston Villa’s goal post.

The star players for Manchester United as portrayed both in this match and other matches are Wayne Rooney and Nemanja Vedic. Rooney is recognized for his speed and accuracy. In this particular match he created numerous chances however it was Dimitiar Berbatov who did not execute such chances. Nemanja Vedic is perhaps the best defender in the world, he is a Serbian recognized for his physical and mental strength especially in restricting strikers from advancing into the penalty area of the soccer pitch. The star players in Aston Villa are Young and Agbonlahor. These are strikers recognized for their goal scoring abilities as evident in their stylistic footwork that confuse strikers. This is the reason for their goal against Manchester United football club. Aston Villa’s goalkeeper is also recognized for his skills in saving balls that could have otherwise been goals had it been another goal keeper guarding the goal post.

The goal of the match was scored by Agbonlahor who shielded off Manchester United’s Wes Brown. He then passed the ball to Young who further shielded off Nemanja Vidic. Agbonlahor then dashed towards the open space close to Manchester United’s goal post. This was for the purpose of receiving the ball crossed by Young after which he scored with a header.

An Introduction

Football is a game that requires strength, loads of fitness and cleverness to be played. It is a game of 90 minutes. There are two teams. Each team can have a maximum of 11 players and a minimum of 7 players. There are two goalposts. The goalkeepers from each of the teams prevent the ball from entering the goal area. The other players try to zigzag their way ahead by kicking the ball. They try to pass the opponents to score a goal. It is a highly intense game with excitement, emotion, blood, and sweat.

The History of Football

In the ancient days, football was not made of leather. In some places, people blew up pigs’ bladders to make footballs. In the Mesoamerican culture, football was played with a rock. It denoted the Sun God. The unfortunate thing was, the losing team’s captain was sacrificed to God. This element of violence and barbarism in football continued even when the early signs of modern football started emerging in England.

As the world moved in the 19th century, this game got separated into two forms. In one form, there was the provision to carry the ball with hands and in the other, handling the ball was forbidden except for the goalkeeper. During this time, the rules of the game were set and the violence associated with it was largely reduced.

Why Do So Many People Love Playing Football?

Football, unlike cricket, has no moment of dullness. There is excitement till the last second of the 90-minute game. The joy of passing the ball from the jungle of opponents, and the joy of smashing the ball to the goal is priceless. As the player is moving forward with the ball, there is always that danger of getting the ball snatched away by the opponent. Then there are expert players like Messi or Beckham who magically make the ball take a curve-turn all the while in the air.

There are also heated exchanges among the players. The players take the competition very seriously. No football fan can ever forget the head-butt of Zidane or the attitude of Ronaldo. At the same time, one can also never forget the moment of the Croatian President hugging the players of the country who sadly lost the World Cup Final in 2018. The emotions run high.

Football in India

India is known for cricket. As a result, football gets less attention here. The Bengalis are the forerunners in the football world in India. The All India Football Federation is doing all it can to promote football in the country. Apart from the traditional Santosh Trophy, in India, there are two football leagues - I-League and the Super League.

Gradually, football is gaining traction in India. In fact, India is gradually getting recognized in the international football world. The 2017 U-17 Football World cup was held in India. This is the first time that a major FIFA event took place in the country. There are many football players like Sunil Chhetri, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Anirudh Thapa, and more who are relevant in the psyche of the Indians.

Football is a game where people have to give their hundred percent. There is no pretension. It is not just a game of tactics and strength, but also a game of emotions.

Short Essay On Football

Football is one of the most renowned games in India. It is a widely played game in the world and it consists of a team of around 11 people. It is played both nationally and internationally. The word football has arrived from two words: foot and ball, where the players run and kick the ball with their feet towards the net on either side. It is a fun game that is very amazing to watch and also to play.

It is also known as soccer in South Africa, Australia, and North America. A very popular football tournament which is played internationally is the FIFA world cup, which is played once every 4 years. Various countries participate in this tournament.

Football is not only a physical game but also a great mental exercise which not only relieves a lot of stress but also helps improve a lot of skills like concentration, aim, tolerance and also football develops a sense of team spirit. All in all, it is a great game that enhances your skills and also refreshes your mind.

At first, it was only played in England but now it is played worldwide. It is an outdoor game and is played on big open rectangular grounds. Also, football players are the most highly paid sportsmen. Because of the excitement and thrill included in a football game, it is a famous and worldwide played game.

Lastly , playing football needs serious body fitness. The players have to run and remain active until the last moment of the game. They have to chase the ball and the opponent players to intercept; they have to protect their goals each and every second. The head-balls, the chest-pass, the rabona, the scissor kick - all these techniques are works of art!

Descriptive essay - Description of a fun fair and guidelines on writing about a football match.

Authors Avatar

Description of a fun fair

It was a scorching hot summer’s day: perfect for a day at the fair. The sky was dotted with a few fluffy clouds that looked like candy floss.

The entrance to the fair could be seen in the distance and the long queues edged forward slowly. Customers were becoming increasingly excited and impatient as they took a few steps forward every so often. Faint music could be heard from beyond the tall gates with the occasional happy scream suddenly piercing the air. Closer to the entrance and the massive structures of the rides could be seen: a rollercoaster, a big wheel, a helter skelter. They were steel giants reaching for the sun.

Join now!

Once inside, the braver kids ran towards the first rollercoaster. It zipped back and forth across the queue as fast as a bullet. Those sat at the front screamed the loudest, their eyes bulging like frogs, as the wind howled into their faces. Hands gripped the safety bars like a vice as the shuttle suddenly flipped upside down. One formerly cocky boy, immediately felt nauseous, his confidence knocked and his turned face a sickly green colour.

This is a preview of the whole essay

Below, younger children stood watching, eating their sweets and snacks. Ice creams wobbled perilously over the cones and dripped down their small fingers as they melted. Some munched on brightly coloured balls of candy floss. The strands dissolved on the tongue and the sweet sugar stuck to the teeth like glue. A few ate too much and complained to their mummies and daddies.

Across from the queues for the rides, were the picnic tables, a refuge from the madness. Families, young couples and groups of friends sipped on drinks, applied sun cream or kept a vigilant watch on their children. One harassed mum, struggled as a pack of young wolves yelped and cried around her for a drink, a snack, to go on the tea cups, to go on the big ride, to go to the toilet, to go home.

Quality of writing.

The Quality of Written Communication is good, especially because, unlike most Writing to Describe tasks, the candidate's writing style does not appear unduly clogged up or as if it is aiming to cram as many adjective and adverbs into the answer as possible, meaning it reads more fluidly than some answer than incorrectly apply the vocabulary. The grammar is therefore perfect; spelling is an issue ans neither is punctuation. Though, is the candidate really wants to show off, the use of more complex punctuation points like semi-colon and colons could greatly enhance the pace of the piece.

Level of analysis

The Level of Analysis is not marked here, but Description and Creativity are, so I will comment on these. The Level of Description is good, and the candidate makes a gallant attempt in light of the rigid structure they had to adhere to. There is a fair use of descriptive writing techniques and the candidate's frenetic energy does come out in some instances, particularly describing the children in the observation with the use of syntactic parallelisms, repetition and triples.

Response to question

This is a very competent essay response to a Writing to Describe task. The candidate has kindly posted the guidelines which act as a structural aid for this answer, and there is a good adherence to them. I would argue this may limit the creativity that could be displayed but if these are set by the teacher as obligatory rules then so be it. The first paragraph is a promising start, drawing parallels with the event being described and the description of the cloud (likening them to "candy floss"). Clever little things like this are always good in your answer, as they make the examiner think less literally and show them that the answer is carefully and cleverly augmented. There is a good use of a range of vocabulary and descriptive techniques (metaphors, similes, anthropomorphism), but I would like to see a more diverse use of sentence lengths, particularly when describing the rollercoaster - shorter, sharper sentences could really heighten the drama and intensity of such rides, rather than drawing out long sentences with elaborate descriptions, quickfire adjectives and and quickened pace would help the reader feel as if they were actually there.

A Football Match Essay

Football is the most popular game all over the world. This game took its origin in Scotland and England. In a football match, there are two teams, having eleven players in each team. This game is played with an air-filled ball of leather with a rubber bladder inside it. Its ground is about 100 yards long and 60 yards wide. The field is divided into two equal halves, called the centerline.

The ball is kicked from this line at the start of the game. The main target of the players is to kick the ball into the opposite team goal. The victory of the game depends upon how the captain of the team has set the players on the field. Usually, they are divided into four groups— the forwards, the halfbacks, the fullbacks, and the goalkeeper.

The forward line has five players to carry the ball forward to the opponent's goal. The half-back line has three players, who play offensive and defensive games. The full-back line has two players who prevent the ball from being carried into their goal. Then, there is a goal-keeper, whose duty is to prevent any goal from being made.

Only goal-keeper can touch the ball with his hands or any other part of the body. The whole match takes 90 minutes, two halves of forty-five minutes each. There is a break of five minutes in between the match. The match is played under the strong supervision of two referees and two linesmen.

They carefully watch the game and nobody should break the rules. If no team scores not even a single goal, the match results in becomes a draw. This game is very beneficial for all. It is good physical exercise.

It increases the height as the players have to run all the time. It provides fun and relaxation to the tired mind and body. This game teaches a lesson of regularity, discipline, and sincerity. Now the football matches are organized in all leading schools. All schools have their football teams.

Football is one of the most popular games in the world. It is also one of the oldest games. It is a game of strength and stamina. In terms of popularity, it is as popular as cricket. Comparatively, it is more popular in Europe and Latin America.

Last Sunday, I got an opportunity to witness a football match which was played between Khalsa Modern School and Central School, Nawagaon. The match was played at the playgrounds of Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Navinagan, and Nawagaon. The entire ground was well decorated and a large number of chairs were arranged for the guests and spectators. Both the teams were well-prepared and confident of their win. The ground was full packed. The match was to start at 1 p.m. Both the teams entered the ground on scheduled time. After the toss, the referee blew the whistle and the match began. It was expected to be a well-contested and lively match. Both the teams were expecting to score well. During the first few minutes, it was the Khalsa Modern School who dominated the match. They struck hard to the defenses of their rival, but failed to score any goal. However, they performed brilliantly and the spectators enjoyed the game.

The captain was very tactful and confident. He was hopeful to turn the match in his favour. It was his confidence that instilled new hope and energy in the team. His team was again in high spirit. As a result it overturned the match and gained control over it which was lost during the mid-hour. In the meantime, the team scored a goal. The goal was appreciated with thunderous applause. The team was cheered by their supporters. Meanwhile, the right half of the Central School team was badly injured due to which the captain had to play the double role throughout the entire game. Within a few second the first half was declared to be over by the referee.

The players took some rest and refreshments. They drew out strategies to beat their rival. There was a loud noise in the playground. The supporters, rushed to the ground to cheer up the teams.

The match again started with the whistle of the referee. The team of Central School was equipped with strategies to defeat the Khalsa Modern School. But the players of Khalsa School were all the more alert particularly their goalkeeper was very tactful. The Khalsa Modern School made pressure on its rival during the first few minutes, by hitting one after another at the goal of the Central School but the goalkeeper of the rival team was extraordinarily sharp and quick in kicking the goal back. The game became very exciting and thrilling during the last minute.

At one time, the game appeared to be ended in draw. It caused a moral boosting to the losing team. There were loud cheers from their supporters. Each of the team was trying its best to win the match. The game was about to over but surprisingly the Central School scored a goal over Khalsa Modern School. This was a surprising win which caused a great sensation in the ground. There was deafening cheers from its supporters, but the fighting spirit of the opposite team was also being praised by all. Overall the match was enjoyed greatly by the spectators.
