The study of A-level English Literature allows us to explore some of life’s most complex topics: love, loss, loneliness, fear and happiness. In short, through the power of the written word, you’ll take a deep dive into the strengths and frailties of human emotion.
From Shakespeare to Wyatt, to Tennessee Williams and Margaret Atwood, you’ll critically examine a range of texts which sum up ‘Love Through the Ages’. You’ll become confident placing poems and novels into context, identifying historicist links and comparing and contrasting characters, themes and narrative voices.

Course Outcome
Upon successful completion of this home learning A-level English Literature course, you will receive an A-level in English Literature, issued by Edexcel. This syllabus ( 9ET0 ) has been chosen specifically because it is best suited to distance learning. Your certificate is identical to that issued to students at any other school, college or university.
How is this course assessed or examined?
You will be required to complete the three assessments for A-level English Literature:
Written Exams:
- Component 1: Drama. 30% of A-level
- Component 2: Prose. 20% of A-level.
- Component 3: Poetry. 30% of A-level
Non-Exam Assessment (NEA):
- Coursework Task: 20% of A-level.
Entry requirements
It is strongly recommended that you have studied English Literature to GCSE or equivalent level before starting this course. The syllabus is a difficulty Level Three, equivalent to an A-level or BTEC, and is usually suitable for most learners of all ages

I’m a big kid at heart ; I love Disney movies and also dabble in photography.
STEM and History of Art
Marine biology, jellyfish conservationist, hairdresser, fitness instructor… I have an eclectic backstory! Art is my passion and one of my proudest moments was achieving my Masters in Fine Art. I then requalified as an Art teacher to share my knowledge with my students. For most of my career, I’ve supported vulnerable students with additional needs such as SEMH and SEN.
Education and Childcare
My 30-year stride in education started with childminding, to working with pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. I then tutored in a national reading programme and went on to become a Higher-Level TA. I’m elated to say I graduated with a First-Class BA Honours Degree when I was 50 – living proof that it’s never too late to chase your dreams!

How You Will Study
All of your lessons and assessments are available on CloudPort - our Moodle-based learning environment (Moodle VLEs are used by most colleges and universities in the UK).
Start with lesson 1 and work through the course in a linear pathway or choose to jump to the section that you need. Your learning is completely flexible and allows you to set your programme of learning around the skills you need.
Submit assessments as you work through the course. Get instant results and feedback on activities to track your progress. Use these assessments as learning launchpads, allowing you to focus your time on the topics you need to brush up on.
You will have access to all course materials, assessments and tutor support for 24 months from the day of enrolment. Extensions are available for students who wish to study over a longer period.

You are not alone! You will be assigned a personal 1:1 tutor on your day of enrolment. Your tutor will remain by your side, throughout your learning journey until you get qualified.

Assessment And Examination
CloudLearn GCSEs and A-Levels are structured around formative assessments allowing you to test your knowledge as you work towards qualification. Before taking your exam you will submit a mock exam to give you the practise you need before the big day.
When ready we arrange your exam. We have agreements with exam centres all over the UK. Our students also take advantage of preferential pricing due to the volume of students we channel to exam centres.
As part of your enrolment service package we will make all the arrangements for your final exam. This includes locating a centre and booking the relevant exam/s. Exam fees are additional.

The Edexcel A-Level English Language & Literature exam is available in May/June each year. It is assessed over 3 exam papers:
- Paper 3 9EL0 03 - Coursework component - Assignment 1- One piece of creative non-fiction (such as an article) One piece of creative fiction (such as an additional scene for a play). Assignment 2 - One analytical commentary reflecting on the two pieces of creative work that you have produced. The total word count should be 1000-2000 words (combined) for the two creative pieces and 1000-1250 words for the commentary.
We generally ask that you book written exams at least 6 months in advance, however subjects that includes NEA (A-Level Eng Lit & A-Level History), Practicals (A-Level Sciences), or Fieldwork (A-Level Geography) you are recommended to note the following deadlines for booking and give us at least 8 months booking notice.
Booking deadlines are 5-8 months prior to the exam date.
Booking your exam after the booking deadline will incur late fees (available for one month after deadline) and high late fees (available up until exam entry closure).
