500 Words Essay On Teachers' Day

The word "teacher" in India refers to more than just a profession. With a teacher, there is an intense emotion. If we look at ancient India, we can see how essential gurus (teachers) were in influencing the views of their followers.

Role Of Teacher In Life

Make learning enjoyable: Along with educating, their primary responsibility is to get kids ready for a better future. Instead of presenting concepts in in-depth, technical lectures, they make their classes engaging and enjoyable.

Connecting to actual events: The children's closest friends are good teachers. By relating various subjects to actual events, they facilitate learning. Using real-world examples, they show how even the most complex subjects can be understood and how doing so would benefit the future.

Motivate Learners: Teachers help pupils develop since they frequently look to them for approval. Compliments like "come on," "good job," "well done," and "keep it up" go a long way in motivating children. These appropriate remarks have great value in their lives. They always inspire us to attain our greatest accomplishments in addition to teaching us. They support us, cheer us on, and boost our confidence whenever we fail so that we may keep trying until we achieve. They constantly show us the ideal course for our lives. They consistently go above and beyond to assist pupils.

Alter the course of your life: It is true what is claimed that "excellent instructors hold the future growth of a nation in their hands". The quality of the education we receive from our teachers determines who we become in life. Children's minds are given data and information to examine the scenario. The most critical skill we acquire from teachers is the ability to analyse what is essential. They fashion an exquisite statue out of an unformed stone. They increase our understanding and promote the proper transfer of knowledge from one generation to the next.

Monitor Progress & Set Performance Objectives: The best teachers always succeed in pointing out to their students how far they have come since the beginning. Establishing short-term goals, encouraging improvement, and maintaining self-evaluation keeps track of the kids' every move and is a confidence builder. Teachers support students by providing them with clear objectives that are doable. For pupils, they design challenging assignments that aid them in resolving problematic situations in life.

My Teachers’ Day Celebration

The 5th of September is designated as Teacher's Day each year to commemorate the birth of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan , a legendary educator in his day. A small celebration for our teachers was held on this occasion in our school. At seven in the morning, teachers' day activities began. The school captain gave a brief statement to introduce the event and discuss the significance of teachers and their role in building nations. The ceremony was opened by lighting a candle in front of Maa Saraswati's statue , representing wisdom and peace. The first performance by the sixth-grade children began at precisely 9:00 a.m.

Sujana ma'am taught me English for the first time. She is very knowledgeable and kind and is also my favourite teacher. I played the role of Sujana ma'am in the annual tradition of students dressing up as their favourite teachers for the day. I hold all teachers in the highest regard.

Essay on Teachers Day

Teachers’ Day in the United States is not just a day; it is a celebration of the heart, soul, and essence of education. It is a day dedicated to acknowledging the pivotal role teachers play in shaping the futures of their students and, by extension, the future of the nation. Celebrated on the first Tuesday of the first full week of May, National Teacher Appreciation Day, as part of Teacher Appreciation Week, offers a moment for students, parents, and the community to express gratitude and recognize the dedication, hard work, and impact of teachers.

Historical Context and Significance

The origin of Teachers’ Day in the United States dates back to 1953 when Eleanor Roosevelt persuaded the 81st Congress to proclaim a National Teacher Day. This advocacy underscored the importance of recognizing the valuable contributions teachers make to society. Over the years, the celebration has evolved, and today, it is observed for an entire week, known as Teacher Appreciation Week. This expansion signifies a growing acknowledgment of the extensive contributions teachers make beyond the classroom.

The Role of Teachers in Education

Teachers are the cornerstone of education. They are not just educators; they are mentors, guides, and sometimes even friends who inspire curiosity, drive ambition, and instill a love for learning. They play a multifaceted role in shaping the intellectual and ethical foundations of their students. Through their dedication, teachers nurture the talents of the youth, preparing them to face the challenges of the future and to contribute positively to society.

Shaping Lives and Futures

Teachers influence lives not just academically but also by teaching essential life skills such as critical thinking, empathy, and resilience. They recognize the unique strengths and weaknesses of each student, fostering an environment where every child can thrive. The impact of a teacher can echo throughout a student’s life, influencing their career choices, values, and perspectives.

Adapting to Change

The role of teachers has evolved significantly, especially with the integration of technology in education. Teachers today are not just sources of knowledge but facilitators of learning in a digital age. They adapt to new teaching methods and technologies to provide students with the best possible education, preparing them for a world that is constantly changing.

Building a Strong Community

Teachers also play a critical role in building strong, educated communities. They act as role models, demonstrating the values of hard work, respect, and integrity. By fostering a sense of community within the classroom, they teach students the importance of cooperation, mutual respect, and understanding, laying the foundation for a cohesive society.

Challenges Faced by Teachers

Despite their critical role, teachers often face numerous challenges. These include limited resources, overcrowded classrooms, and the need to adapt to diverse learning needs and backgrounds. The increasing demands for accountability and high-stakes testing add to the pressure, requiring teachers to continually update their skills and methodologies.

Furthermore, the shift to remote learning during the pandemic highlighted the flexibility and resilience of teachers. They adapted to new technologies and teaching methods, ensuring that education continued despite unprecedented challenges. This period underscored the essential role of teachers in maintaining continuity in education and supporting the well-being of their students.

Recognizing and Celebrating Teachers

Teachers’ Day provides an opportunity to express appreciation for the tireless efforts of educators. Schools and communities celebrate this day in various ways, from hosting special events and ceremonies to presenting gifts and tokens of appreciation. However, recognition should extend beyond a single day. Supporting teachers through adequate funding, professional development opportunities, and creating a supportive work environment is crucial.

Teacher-Student Relationship

The relationship between teachers and students is at the heart of education, and it deserves special attention on Teachers’ Day:

a. Trust and Respect: – A strong teacher-student relationship is built on trust and mutual respect, creating a safe and supportive learning environment.

b. Effective Communication: – Effective communication between teachers and students is essential for learning and personal development. It fosters open dialogue, active listening, and feedback.

c. Empowerment and Encouragement: – Teachers empower students to take ownership of their learning journey and encourage them to overcome challenges and setbacks.

d. Individualized Support: – Understanding the unique needs and strengths of each student allows teachers to provide personalized support and guidance.

e. Mentorship and Role Modeling: – Teachers often serve as role models, inspiring students to develop strong character, values, and a lifelong love of learning.

In conclusion, Teachers’ Day in the United States is a testament to the invaluable contributions of teachers to society. It is a day to reflect on the profound impact educators have on shaping the minds and futures of their students. Teachers nurture, inspire, and guide, preparing the next generation to lead and innovate. As we celebrate Teachers’ Day, let us remember that the best way to honor teachers is by supporting them in their mission to educate, not just on this special day but throughout the year. Recognizing the challenges they face and providing the necessary support ensures that teachers can continue to perform their vital role in society. In honoring our teachers, we celebrate the very essence of education and its power to transform lives and build a better future.

His birthday is celebrated as the Teachers’ Day every year in India to mark his wisdom, knowledge and contribution in the development of the country and its students, the future citizens.

History of Teachers’ Day

In 1962, the students and friends of Dr Radhakrishnan came together and requested to celebrate his birthday. The Perspective of Radhakrishnan

Dr Radhakrishnan's perspective on education was very different. He believed that the right kind of education as delivered by a teacher can help in eradicating numerous societal problems and superstitious culture that prevails among a significant number of people to date. He wanted a thorough change in the education system as existing in the country by opting for a deeper connection between the teacher and student and changing the way of teaching too. He emphasized on the fact that a teacher and a student must have a good understanding and relationship that should help in imparting and gaining knowledge.

It was his belief that teachers lay the foundation for the future and hold utter responsibility for how good a citizen a student turns out to be. Teachers’ Day is not only a showcase for the acknowledgement towards teachers, but it also implies the recognition of the hard work the teachers put in for the holistic development of the students.

This day is celebrated with utter respect and excitement by the students of all ages. Students look forward to this day with a lot of anticipation. Students showcase their performances and teachers get delighted by them. Often, the students bring gifts to their favourite teachers as a token of appreciation and respect. The day does not only hold importance for students but the teachers also. They are once again reminded of how appreciated they are by the students. No official classes are held on this day in schools, colleges or universities.

Dr. Sarvapali Radhakrishnan was an exceptionally great teacher and philosopher. We must carry forward his torch and fulfil our responsibilities towards our teachers with utter respect and humbleness. Dr. Radhakrishnan breathed his last on 17 th April 1975. But his legend is still alive and every year through the celebration of Teachers’ Day in India, he and his philosophies are remembered time and again.

The teacher’s day is to honor and appreciate teachers for their dedication and hard work. Because teachers play a great role in everyone’s life. From teaching science and languages to giving life-long lessons, teachers help us build ourselves in every field of life. Therefore, they deserve to be honored. So, we should at least dedicate a day to thank them for everything that they do for us. With that being said, in the article below, we have written a teacher’s day essay and we have listed some best teacher’s day quotes for you to add icing on top of the cake.

Teacher’s Day

Teacher’s day is a very special occasion for students, teachers, and everyone in general. Every year students celebrate teacher’s day on the 5th of September to honor teachers and pay tribute to their dedication and hard work. In India, 5th September is celebrated as teacher’s day as a reminder of one of the greatest teachers, in Indian history, Dr. Servepalli Radhakrishnan’s birth. Dr. Radhakrishnan was also the second president of India besides being a great mentor. On this special occasion, students present their best wishes and respect to their teachers. They also give cards, flowers, gifts, and write a teacher’s day essay for their favorite teacher to express their love. Among all, writing a special teacher’s day essay for their favorite teacher is most appreciable.

Moreover, on this day, students organize teacher’s day events that include inspirational acts, singing competitions, speeches, and debates to make their teachers feel proud and honored. Students also dress up as teachers, on this special day, and perform.

It is indeed true that there is no other profession as honorable as the profession of teaching. And it is the most respectable profession in the world. September 5 was dedicated to the teaching profession by celebrating this day as Teachers’ Day across India. It is celebrated annually to commemorate the birthday of one of the greatest teachers in Indian history and former President of India, Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, as well as to honor teachers. India’s former president’s birthday was dedicated to highlighting the nobility of the teaching profession and the contributions of our teachers to society and the development of the country.

In the life of a student, a teacher reserves a place above the parents. Parents give birth to and care for their children while teachers create their future. Only teachers make children successful in their lives. A good teacher can lead children to limitless heights of success in life. Besides, teaching is a prophetic profession. Because teachers disperse knowledge which is the most precious thing ever found. Knowledge shows us the right path and enables us to distinguish right from wrong. Moreover, teachers are a source of inspiration and guidance for students. It is rightly said that “The mediocre master tells, the good master explains, the superior master demonstrates and the great master inspires”. Masters inspire students with diligence, hard work, and dedication.

Moreover, there is no doubt that teachers are like real potters who not only shape our lives but also allow us to light ourselves like a lamp forever after dispelling darkness from all over the world. So that our nation can be illuminated with many luminous lamps. Therefore, we pay homage and respect to all teachers in the country on this honorable day. However, we cannot give our teachers anything in return for their excellent work; we must always respect them and be grateful for their hard work and dedication. Besides, we must make a commitment to respect and wholeheartedly honor our teachers in our daily lives. Because without a good teacher we are all incomplete in this world.

In conclusion, we need to realize the need and importance of teachers in our lives and celebrate Teachers’ Day every year to honor them for their great work. Teachers are more than our parents who shape our minds for success in every field of life. Besides, they only become happy and successful in life if their dedicated students go ahead and spread the name of teachers all over the world through our activities and by reflecting back on all the lessons that we learned from our teachers. Thus, we should follow all the good lessons in our life taught by our teachers.

The manifestations of the celebration of Teacher’s Day differ from one country to another, but all ideas share a great thanks to teachers, and recognition of their thanks to both students and society.

Therefore, we will present several models for writing a short essay or a paragraph on Teacher’s Day, or writing a long article or speech of thanks to be delivered in celebration of Teacher’s Day.

Essay on teachers day

Given the importance of the teacher and his great role in the education and upbringing of generations, the world has dedicated a day to celebrate the teacher. That day is October 5 of each year. Since 1994 AD, the world has celebrated Teacher’s Day on October 5 of each year.

More than 100 countries celebrate this day, noting that the date of the day that some countries celebrate may differ from that date. For example, Australia celebrates Teacher’s Day on the last Friday of October, while India celebrates Teacher’s Day on September 5.

Despite the different date of the teacher’s celebration day, everyone has the same goal, which is honoring the teacher and expressing thanks and gratitude to him, in addition to focusing on teachers’ issues and how to solve them.

The purpose of celebrating Teacher’s Day

The purpose of dedicating a World Teachers’ Day is divided into:

  • Appreciating teachers and thanking them for their great efforts in the progress of the country, through the education, guidance and counseling they provide to their students.
  • Providing the opportunity to shed light on the issues of teachers and education, with the aim of finding real solutions that make the teacher give his best to his community.
  • Social awareness of the role of the teacher, and his great favor in preparing the generations that will be the reason for the progress and prosperity of society.
  • Motivating teachers to make greater efforts in the education and upbringing of young people, by honoring outstanding teachers and showing their work in order to be role models for others.

History of World Teachers’ Day

In 1966, UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Educational and Cultural Organization) signed with the International Labor Organization a Recommendation on the status of teachers and teaching, standards concerning policy for the employment of teachers and education personnel, teacher training and continuing education for teachers.

In 1994, October 5 was set to be Teacher’s Day and to commemorate the recommendation signed by UNESCO with the International Labor Organization. But the date of Teacher’s Day may differ from one country to another, depending on the dates of study there.

The role of the teacher for both the student and society

There is no doubt that the teacher bears a great responsibility for the progress of his society, as he is primarily responsible for preparing  and educating young people, in addition to providing them with skills and experiences that help them in their lives in general.

The teacher has credit for all the successful people in the country. No matter how successful a person is and has a place in society, his teacher has merit in that, as he is the one who taught him the basics of life, facilitated the path of science for him, and helped him to learn.

The role of the teacher is great in all cases, but his role becomes more and more important in the crises experienced by the society, where the teacher at that time is a leader and a guide, who can direct his students to the right path to achieve the goals of the nation.

Undoubtedly, the influence of the teacher does not stop with his students only, because each student will transfer what he has learned of values and cultural information to his family, thus spreading knowledge among people and reducing ignorance and backwardness.

But they all aim to honor the teacher, and to show feelings of gratitude and appreciation for his continuous effort in teaching his students, providing them with skills and experiences, and raising them on good morals and patriotism.

In some countries, Teacher’s Day is an official holiday, and television programs are presented that deal with the virtue of the teacher and his great role in preparing future generations, in addition to hosting and honoring distinguished teachers, and shedding light on their work in order to be role models for others.

Among the manifestations of the celebration of Teacher’s Day are the following:

  • Organizing a party at the school or university, and the students organize the party program, provided that there are words of thanks to the teachers delivered by the students, such as poetry or phrases of praise and other expressions that express respect and appreciation for teachers and recognition of their great role in spreading science and culture in society.
  • The students were keen to present some gifts to their teachers. These gifts do not have to be expensive, but they should be gifts of gratitude and thanks.
  • We can mention the names of the teachers who stood by us in difficult times, and how they were credited with getting us through these problems. This is in recognition of their grace and that they love us as their children.
  • The various media should be interested in highlighting the role of the teacher in the education and upbringing of young people, and in contributing to the development and progress of society.
  • Teacher’s Day should be an opportunity to discuss the issues of teachers in terms of their salaries and employment, and any problems they face should be resolved so that they do their best to students and thus benefit the community as a whole.

At the end of an essay on Teacher’s Day, we should all realize the great role that the teacher plays in  educating students and imparting them with good values and morals.

There is no doubt that the teacher has a great role in guiding students to everything that benefits them and the country.

The teacher is a leader who can change the behavior of his students for the better, and the teacher is a role model, and therefore teachers must be chosen with precision, because teachers are responsible for preparing successful generations of young people who can advance their country and work on its progress and advancement, and defend it with their lives against its enemies.

Teachers’ Day is completely different from the usual school days. On this day, the teachers do not teach the students. Instead, they relax and indulge in fun activities on the school premises.

  • Playing the Part of Teachers

One of the key features of Teachers’ Day is students dress up as teachers. In most schools, the students from the senior classes dress up as teachers. Mostly, a student who is good at maths dresses up as a maths teacher, someone who is good with English dresses up as an English teacher, and so on. These students-dressed-as-teachers visit the junior classes and teach the students. They also indulge in various fun activities during their classroom sessions. Playing the part of the teacher is quite exciting for these students, and the experience is equally enjoyable for the junior wing students, as well as they do not need to study much.

  • Enacting Like Favourite Teachers

Not just the senior wing students, in many schools, the students from the junior classes are also asked to come dressed up as teachers. They are further asked to learn two –three lines and enact the part of their favourite teacher. They are made to do the enactment on the stage in front of the teachers. The students who enact well are given special prizes. These performances add to the overall fun.

  • Performances

The second half of the day is mainly reserved for different kinds of performances. The teachers are invited to the school auditorium and are shown various performances organized by students from different classes. Dance performances, poem recitations, plays, and fancy dress competitions are held. Some teachers also volunteer to perform a dance or sing songs on this occasion.

Games such as musical chairs, dumb charades, and passing the parcel are played on this occasion. Most of these games are played along with the teachers. Seeing the teachers playing these games with full enthusiasm is a treat. Many team-building games are also played as a part of the Teachers’ Day celebration. Students and teachers play these games together. This is a great way to build a bond between the two.

  • Gifts/Prizes

Students present bouquets and cards to the teachers to pay respect to them. Students deliver thank you speeches to their teachers as they wind up the event. Teachers are also given titles such as best dressed teacher, miss polite, miss cool, etc. They are given special prizes for the same.

Teachers’ Day is indeed a day that offers a much-needed respite from routine school activities. It is a fun-filled day for students and teachers, and both of them look forward to it. Together, the teachers and students have a lot of fun on this special occasion.

Essay on Teachers Day Celebration 600 Words

Teachers are known to have a strong influence in shaping their students’ life. An encouraging and appreciative teacher nurtures students into positive-minded and confident beings. On the other hand, a teacher who is always critical de-motivates the students. Likewise, a strict teacher inculcates discipline in students. On the other hand, a teacher who isn’t serious about his job gives the same mindset to his students, who eventually become careless and unfocused. Teachers must possess certain qualities to nurture their students the right way. They must also understand their role and carry out their responsibilities with dedication.

Qualities of a Teacher

Here are some of the qualities teachers must possess:

  • Pleasing Personality

A teacher must have a pleasing personality. This is the first and foremost trait a teacher must possess. This helps create a good rapport with the students. Students tend to look up to someone with a positive and pleasing personality.

A teacher must be disciplined. She/he must come to school on time, complete every task in the stipulated time, and be disciplined in every aspect. Only when the teacher is disciplined will he/she be able to inculcate discipline in her students.

  • Skill to Handle Students

This is another essential quality a teacher must possess. A teacher must know how to handle the students well. She must be strict yet cool. She must also be patient and possess the skill of listening to the students. This goes a long way in handling the students efficiently.

  • Hold Over Their Subject

One of the most important qualities that a teacher must possess is that she must have complete knowledge of her subject. She should know her subject inside out. She must be able to answer the queries of the students instantly.

  • Good Teaching Skills

The teachers must know their subject and how to put their point across well so that the students understand it properly. They should have good teaching skills.

  • Good Management Skills

Roles and Responsibilities of a Teacher

Here are the roles and responsibilities of a teacher:

  • Nurture Students

A teacher’s responsibility is to nurture all her students with care, so they grow up as good human beings and perform well in their respective fields.

Teachers help build the future of our nation. They must be appointed very cautiously. Every school, big or small, must ensure it properly assesses and evaluates the candidates applying for the teachers’ position before appointing them. Through this essay, students are expected to highlight the importance of teachers and share how they like to celebrate Teachers’ Day.

Teachers’ Day is celebrated in all schools to honour the contribution of teachers to the students’ lives. Children will have a lot of ideas about what to write on this topic. There are a few essential tips to remember when asked to write an essay on teachers. Here are some details that you can include:

  • Mention the date that Teachers’ day falls on.
  • Write why it is celebrated.
  • Write why it is important to celebrate Teachers’ day.
  • Describe the importance of teachers in students’ lives.
  • Write about various activities on Teachers’ day.

Right from the first day of school, a teacher is a child’s mentor in their studies, guardian away from home and a friendly guide for life. Lower primary class students are very excited about Teachers’ Day but are just about learning how to put down their feelings and ideas in words. It will help them to gather their thoughts and write them in simple sentences. Here is a sample essay on Teachers’ Day for class 1 & 2 students in 10 lines:

  • We celebrate Teachers’ Day in India on September 5.
  • It is celebrated to show our respect and gratitude for our teachers.
  • It is celebrated to mark Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishan’s birth anniversary.
  • International Teachers’ Day is celebrated in other parts of the world on October 5.
  • On this day, teachers are off-duty. Senior students come to school dressed up as teachers and take over the classes.
  • Teachers relax and enjoy the activities planned for them by the students.
  • In my school, we also perform skits and other cultural activities to showcase the importance of our teachers.
  • We also have a special assembly conducted by students.

After writing an essay in simple lines, students will be expected to weave their ideas into small paragraphs to share their experiences on Teachers’ Day. For this short paragraph, they will have to include more details and facts in their essay, with a small introductory and concluding line.

Here is an example that will give your child some guidance:

From our first day at school all the way through college, teachers are the ones who guide us, educate us, and inspire us. They not only teach us but also make us better humans. Therefore, every year on September 5, we celebrate Teachers’ Day to honour our teachers. It is the most important event on the school calendar.

Teachers’ Day was first celebrated by students and colleagues of the former President of India, Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishan, to honour him on his birthday. Since then, it has been celebrated to honour and respect all teachers upon his humble insistence.

In our school, we have many cultural activities to celebrate this day. Students honour their teachers with flowers and gifts to express their gratitude. It is not just on this day, but every day, that we are grateful to our teachers for educating us and making us good human beings.

Class 3 students are expected to write longer essays and express their views articulately along with essential facts and knowledge. Therefore, students will have to memorise these facts while writing about their experiences creatively. Here is a sample of a long essay on Teachers’ Day essay for class 3 students:

We all know that Teachers’ Day is on September 5 and is celebrated with gusto. However, very few know that while it is celebrated on this day in India, the International Teacher Day is observed worldwide on October 5. Teachers’ Day in India is celebrated to honour Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second president of India who was an incredible teacher. His students wanted to celebrate Teachers’ Day on his birthday to honour him and show their respect for him. However, Dr Radhakrishnan suggested honouring all teachers instead, and his birthday started being celebrated across the country to commemorate teachers and their importance in shaping students’ lives.

The future of every society and country lies in the hands of the children. And teachers are the ones that nurture, educate, and shape the future of these children who grow up and make a better society and country. They not only impart education but also guide children to become better humans. Therefore, every year Teachers’ day is celebrated in all schools, colleges, and educational institutions with fervour and enthusiasm. It is a day dedicated to teachers who work hard to ensure their students learn well and excel in school and life. Teachers have a powerful impact on students’ lives and minds. Therefore they have always been respected and held in high regard. On Teachers’ Day, students express that regard and gratitude through various activities.

In my school, senior class students dress and act as their favourite teachers for one day. They conduct the assembly, take classes, and organise various activities for teachers. We have speeches and skits that show the importance of teachers in our lives. We also present dances and sing songs dedicated to our teachers. In our school, we also have performances like fancy dress competitions on this day. Teachers get a day off from their responsibilities and enjoy these acts. There are fun games played with our teachers in one team opposite us students in the other team. We also shower our teachers with love by giving them cards, flowers, and presents to express our love, respect and gratitude. The day is all about teachers and making them feel special. Though we dedicate just one single day of the year to celebrate our teachers, we appreciate and acknowledge their efforts and dedication every day of our life.

Teachers’ day is an introductory essay for students of lower primary classes. For students, teachers are the most important part of their educational lives. Therefore writing an essay for grade 1, 2 & 3 students on Teachers’ day encourages them to express their love and gratitude towards their teachers. From academic and moral aspects, teachers are the guiding light for their students. Through an essay on Teacher’s day, your child will learn and understand the role of teachers in their lives, and appreciate their efforts in their education. This exercise also allows your child to observe and express the activities around them. Gathering facts about the history of Teachers’ Day will improve your child’s general knowledge.

National Teacher Appreciation Day: What is it and how to get involved

C HICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Tuesday is National Teacher Appreciation Day, a day to say thank you to all teachers for their time and dedication to educating children.

The National Day Calendar states that the National Education Association describes National Teacher Day “as a day for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives.”

Teachers play a critical role in educating and shaping children into future leaders of the world. These professionals help to mold our children and guide them in the right direction. A teacher has influenced us, no matter where we are in our lives. Every business owner, doctor, engineer, or nurse can name a teacher who inspired them.

Political and educational leaders began discussions for a day to honor teachers back in 1944. Eleanor Roosevelt persuaded the 81st Congress to proclaim National Teachers’ Day in 1953. The National Education Association continued to celebrate National Teacher Day on the first Tuesday in March until 1985. The National PTA established Teacher Appreciation Week as the first full week of May when the NEA Representative Assembly voted to make the Tuesday of that week National Teacher Day.

Below are some ideas on how to celebrate your teachers:

  • Refill supplies. Many teachers stock their classrooms with the supplies they need to effectively teach.
  • Write a letter showing your support. Your words may encourage a teacher to continue making a difference in a child’s life.
  • Ask them what they need the most. Sometimes just being asked is the most important part.
  • Volunteer in your schools. Every day, schools rely on parent support for many programs to succeed.

If you are interested in becoming a teacher, these places are hiring .

Long Essay on Importance of Teacher’s Day – Essay 7 (800 Words)

Introduction

Teacher’s Day in India is celebrated on the 5 th of September each year. Schools throughout our country are decorated and special events are organized to celebrate this event. Students as well as teachers participate in various events with full zeal. It is a day that offers a break from the usual school activities. So students particularly look forward to this day.

Why is Teacher’s Day Celebrated on 5 th September?

5 th September is the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. Dr. Radhakrishnan was the first Vice President of India. He served the nation from the year 1952 to 1962. He also served the country as its second President from 1962 to 1967.

Dr. Radhakrishnan held great regards for the teachers. Before entering politics, he taught at different universities including the University of Calcutta, University of Mysore and University of Oxford. He was appreciated for his work and was immensely loved by his students. He believed that it is the teachers who shape the youth who in turn shape the future of the nation. This is the reason he did his job as a professor diligently and gave good values to his students.

When he became the president of our country, his students expressed the wish to celebrate his birthday each year. Responding to them, Dr. Radhakrishnan said, he would be rather glad if they celebrate 5 th September as Teachers’ Day. Thus, his birthday is celebrated as Teachers’ Day every year.

The Importance of Teachers’ Day

Teachers’ Day is of utmost importance. It is a day to respect and value the efforts of the teachers who work tirelessly all year round. Teachers’ job is one of the toughest jobs in the world as they are given the responsibility to nurture young minds. They are given a class full of students. Each student is unique and has a different calibre. Some students may be good in Sports others could be Maths genius while others may show keen interest in English. A good teacher helps the students explore their interest and identify their capabilities. She/he encourages the students to hone their skills in the subjects or activities they are interested in and at the same time ensures they do not neglect other subjects or academics as a whole.

The reason why a special day has been dedicated to people belonging to this profession is to give them respect and express gratitude.

Teachers’ Day Celebration at Schools

Students in schools across India celebrate Teachers’ Day with great enthusiasm. Students dress up like their favourite teachers on this day and visit junior classes. They are assigned different classes where they go and teach on this day. This is great fun for both senior wing as well as junior wing students. They study as well as indulge in different activities during these sessions. The senior students ensure the school discipline is maintained all through and the juniors co-operate with them in the same.

In many schools, junior students also dress up as different teachers and are asked to enact their role. Competitions are held and the one with the best dress and role play wins the same. Various other competitions are also held and cultural activities are organized on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. These activities usually take place in the second half of the day. During the first half, the senior students take the classes while the teachers relax and have fun in the staff room.

Teachers are also seen dressed up beautifully. Most of them wear a Sari or some other special attire and go for great hair styles. The schools are decorated well to welcome them. Students especially stay back after school a day before to decorate the classes for this occasion. They apply various innovative methods to decorate the classes and also come up with creative activities for the day. They begin the preparation for Teacher’s Day celebrations days before the same.

In many schools, students give dance performances, perform plays, conduct fancy dress competitions, deliver speeches and indulge in many other activities while the teachers watch them perform. In some schools collective activities are organized for students and teachers. This is all the more fun. They play different games and indulge in various activities together and bond well over the same.

Students also bring Greeting Cards, Flowers and other gifts items for their teachers on this special occasion. The teachers also get delighted to receive different types of colourful gifts from their students.

Teacher’s Day is celebrated in India to pay respect to the teachers who work hard all year round to ensure their students do well in academics as well as extra-curricular activities. A number of activities are planned on this day in various schools across the country. These activities are a good way to strengthen the bond between teachers and students.

All in all, it is a special day for teachers as well as students.

Long Essay on Teachers Day 8 (1300 Words)

Teacher’s Day in India is a very important annual event to applaud and recognize our teachers for their exceptional and extraordinary work. The Teacher’s Day is also a good medium for students to express their love and respect for their teachers. It is celebrated on 5 th September every year with great enthusiasm by the students across the whole nation. Teacher’s Day falling on 5 th September of every year is actually the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who served as the first vice-President and second President of India and also was a distinguished scholar and excellent teacher. We celebrate this day just to remember him and pay him tribute for his great acts and achievements.

Teachers Day is not about only those teachers who have taught us in Schools, Colleges or any other Institution but it is also about all those people who have ever taught us something valuable.

Why do We Celebrate Teacher’s Day?

As it is clear from its name, Teacher’s Day is a day of Teachers. According to Hindu Scripts, ‘Brahma’ is the creator of the Universe. In the same way, a teacher is the creator of the future of the Nation. A teacher is a person who never leaves teaching and keeps educating the youngsters throughout his/her life. S/He performs his/her duty with full honesty and dedication just to make his/her pupils successful and the success of his/her pupils is the actual success of the teacher.

For a good teacher, teaching is not just a profession, a service or a job but s/he regards education as a pillar of the Nation. We can never get over their beneficences so we celebrate the Teacher’s Day just to pay them respect and make them understand how valuable they are for us.

Origin of Teacher’s Day

Teacher’s Day which is celebrated across the country to mark the contribution of the Teachers and tribute to them is actually the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on 5 th September 1888. He was an Indian Philosopher and Statesman who also served as India’s 1 st Vice-President and 2 nd President. He was honoured with several awards including Bharat Ratna in 1954, Knighthood in 1931, and Order of Merit in 1963.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan had also served as a teacher and professor during his early career. He was loved and highly respected by his pupils. He was elected the 2nd President of India on 14 th May 1962. While serving as the President in 1962, some of his friends and Students requested him to celebrate his Birthday every year as “Radhakrishnan Day”, as they wanted to pay him tribute every year for his service and achievements. Dr. Radhakrishnan denied celebrating 5 th September as his birthday, instead he requested them to celebrate 5 th September as Teacher’s Day saying “Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if September 5th is observed as Teachers’ Day”.

Since then the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan is being celebrated as the Teacher’s Day. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan wanted the students of India to understand the importance of their Teachers and always pay them respect that is why his birthday is celebrated as the Teacher’s Day every year.

Teacher’s Day Celebration

On 5 th September, Teacher’s Day is celebrated all across the Nation with great enthusiasm and respect for the teaching community. The most of the excitement can be seen among the students of pre college schools. They eagerly wait for the day to celebrate and tribute their teachers.

Various kinds of social and cultural events and especially acts based on teachers are organised in Schools and Colleges on this day. The preparation starts few days before the Teachers Day. The students prepare speeches and poems dedicated to their teachers and perform them on the stage. They also prepare some beautiful gifts, greeting cards and flowers for their teachers.

Also many quizzes, essay competitions and other such events are organised by authorities. The celebration usually starts with cutting of cake by the teachers. It is not necessarily done in every institution but most of the institutions, Schools and Collages do so. Students also bring presents for their favourite teachers. Teachers accept the gift and respect of their students and fill them with their love and blessings. Students also decorate their School and Classroom beautifully to surprise their Teachers. The excitement for teacher’s day and the love and respect for their teachers can clearly be seen in the eyes of every student.

Importance of Teacher’s Day

Importance of Teacher’s Day in our life depends completely upon the importance of Teachers in our life.

If you are a student then you know very well what a teacher is. A teacher teaches us, guides us, amends our mistakes, scolds us when necessary and also punishes us too, but deep in our heart we all know that he is trying to make us civilized and successful by policing and improving our positive sides. To pay them high respect and follow their every direction should be our utmost aim at this age forgetting all other things. Celebrate the Teacher’s Day to pay respect to your teachers.

If you are a successful person, either employed or a businessman, then undoubtedly you understand very well the importance of a teacher and his contribution in your successful life. All that you have achieved till date and also what you will achieve in future is just because of the knowledge given to you by your teachers. The Teacher’s Day is very important for you and it brings you the chance to thank your teacher and show your love to them.

Relation between an Ideal Teacher and Student

The bonding between a teacher and his pupils is a very important and sacred part of Indian Culture. Our history is the proof of it. A student is like a bud of flower which has not bloomed yet and the Teacher is the gardener. S/He nourishes it, cares for it, and helps it in growing and smelling the entire Garden.

A good teacher is always dedicated towards developing his/her students. S/He works on making him/her able to fight and survive in the fast moving world. It does not matter if s/he lives in a hut or a small room but s/he becomes much happier to see the success of his/her students.

A student must understand the purpose of teacher and s/he can pay him/her teachers respect only by applying their teachings in life and making them feel proud. Instead of being rich and successful being a good citizen and responsible person obliges the teachers most.

A good bond between a teacher and a student has always led to success and fame. Gopal Krishna Gokhale was the political Guru of Mahatma Gandhi who asked Gandhi ji to return from South Africa and serve his Nation. It was Chanakya who guided Chandragupta Maurya to fight against Nanda Dynasty with the help of which Chandragupta Maurya established Maurya Dynasty.

Thus a good relation between a teacher and his student always has the power to change the history of the world.

So we have come to know that the Teacher’s Day is a very important day in the life of every person because every individual of the nation whether, young or old, has been a student some day. We must celebrate this day with zeal and respect to express our gratitude towards our teachers. It is not necessary to give them heavy and costly gifts but just a sense of utmost respect is enough to make them happy. A student and teacher’s relation is the most important thing in our nation that needs to be maintained for a long time to make the nation leader of the world.

Teacher Appreciation Week: what it is, how you can get involved, and ways to thank educators

We've previously reported about the value of teachers and school staff: how they identify their students' needs and develop curriculum to respond to them, how they help students stay engaged in school and how they share their life's work and passion . Last year, we even shadowed a fourth-grade teacher to see what her typical day is like.

Now that the end of the school year is coming up, parents, caregivers and community members have an opportunity to celebrate what teachers do all year.

Teacher Appreciation Week is typically observed during the first full week in May; this year, it will be May 6-10. During that week, National Teacher Day is observed on Tuesday, according to the National Education Association .

What is Teacher Appreciation Week?

The origins of Teacher Appreciation Week are uncertain. According to a blog post by School Specialty , former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt spoke to Congress about the need for a holiday to recognize teachers in 1953, possibly in response to letters from teachers in either Wisconsin or Arkansas.

Regardless of who started it, the first National Teacher Day was observed nearly 30 years later, on March 7, 1980 . Four years later, in 1984, the National Parent Teacher Association established the first full week in May as Teacher Appreciation Week. The NEA has also observed National Teacher Day on the Tuesday of Teacher Appreciation Week since then.

Today, schools nationwide celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week in May by thanking teachers and school staff members for their hard work and dedication to their students.

What are area schools doing for Teacher Appreciation Week?

Locally, individual schools and school districts organize events and gifts to celebrate teachers and other staff members throughout the week. These efforts are often led by parent-teacher organizations and associations. Some of the groups this year are planning to donate gifts, breakfasts, lunches or snacks to area teachers and staff members.

Others are showing appreciation in other ways. Families at Houdini Elementary School are planning to decorate the sidewalk outside the school with chalk. The hope, according to Houdini PTO member Michaela Michalski, is that the school's staff and teachers will see the encouraging messages as they come into school that Monday and "boost (their) morale," she said.

"We try to do something different (for Teacher Appreciation Week) every year," Michalski said. She and fellow PTO member Amanda Forster organized this year's "Chalk the Walk" event.

They thought "it would be really nice to go outside, for our families to connect with each other and show their creative skills," Michalski said. "We adore and appreciate our staff and teachers for all the hard work they do daily and all that they give to our students."

Area businesses have gotten into the mix, too. Last year, Taft Elementary literacy teacher Tanya Olson was honored by the Neenah Walmart after she won a "Favorite Teacher" contest at the store, according to the Neenah school district.

What gifts should I get for Teacher Appreciation Week?

The question's been posed in area parent groups over the past few days, and members of the Facebook group Moms of the Appleton Area — as well as teacher advocacy groups and school districts — have answers.

In the Facebook group's post asking about Teacher Appreciation Week gifts, several commenters who said they work in education and child care suggested gift cards to Walmart, Target, Amazon or Kwik Trip. These kinds of gift cards can help with classroom expenses; the NEA estimates that teachers spend an average of $500 to $750 of their own money every year on classroom supplies.

As for coffee gift cards and mugs, they suggest going this route only if you know for a fact the teacher likes a cup of joe. Other commenters suggested deciding on a gift after learning what the teacher likes or needs in their classroom.

Teachers and child care workers said they also welcome heartfelt cards and notes from their students and parents. The Wisconsin Education Association Council said something as simple as an appreciative email or text is also welcome.

Staff members also ask parents and caregivers to consider volunteering in a classroom. "The biggest thing we continually hear from staff is that they appreciate the gift of time more than anything," said Jim Strick, Neenah Joint School District communications director.

You can also thank school staff on social media and advocating for public schools in your community. The National PTA also has a "Thank a Teacher" toolkit on its website that includes social media graphics, a printable acrostic poem activity and a digital thank-you card. And, if there's a public school teacher you'd like to thank publicly, WEAC also has a "Thank a Teacher" form you can fill out online at weac.org .

NJSD superintendent Mary Pfeiffer also said she'd like to see parents and community members thank teachers and staff members all year round and "consider the effort and heart they put into their work every day for our children."

  • Collaborative art project : Facilitate a collaborative art project where teachers and students work together to create a mural, sculpture, or installation celebrating teachers and education.
  • School garden planting day : Host a school garden planting day where teachers, students, and staff come together to plant flowers, herbs, or vegetables in the school garden — symbolizing growth, renewal, and appreciation for teachers’ nurturing role in students’ lives.
  • Teacher appreciation concert : Arrange a virtual concert or musical performance dedicated to teachers, featuring student musicians, local bands, or guest artists performing uplifting and inspiring songs as a tribute to educators.
  • Professional recognition : You might already be doing this year-round, but Teacher Appreciation Week is a great reminder to nominate teachers for local, state, or national awards and recognition programs to highlight their achievements and dedication to the teaching profession.
  • Outdoor retreat day : Plan an outdoor retreat day for teachers to relax, unwind, and enjoy nature, with activities such as hiking, picnicking, or outdoor yoga sessions to promote wellness and stress relief.
  •  Future planning : Use Teacher Appreciation Week as an opportunity (hopefully one of many!) to solicit feedback and input from teachers on future planning, curriculum development, and school improvement initiatives — demonstrating teachers valued contributions to the school community.
  • Social hour: End the day week with a teacher and staff appreciation happy hour or social gathering where teachers can relax and celebrate their accomplishments together.

  • Professional growth grants : Establish professional growth grants or funding opportunities for teachers to pursue further education, attend conferences, or participate in workshops aligned with their professional goals and interests.
  •  Legacy project : Initiate a collaborative legacy project where teachers and students work together to create a lasting tribute or commemorative artwork celebrating the collective achievements, memories, and milestones of the school year, leaving a meaningful legacy for future generations.

17 Ideas To Celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week (2024)

Colorful illustrated teacher happily teaching students

Teacher Appreciation Week is celebrated during the first full week of May — in 2024, it’s celebrated from Monday, May 6 through Friday, May 10. This annual week-long celebration is an opportunity to show teachers they are valued, appreciated, and deserving of more support.

Parents, students, administrators, and community members alike often use Teacher Appreciation Week as an opportunity to celebrate and honor educators who have made an impact on the lives of students, but it’s also a great occasion to improve the lives of teachers, too.

Ahead of Teacher Appreciation Week, we spoke with Sheryl Lee Ralph at TED Conference in Vancouver — that’s right, the Broadway legend who plays Ms. Barbara Howard on the hit sitcom “Abbott Elementary.” (She’s just as delightful in person, we promise.)

Ralph spoke in her 2023 TED Talk about the power of believing in oneself, but we were curious: How can we let our teachers know we believe in them, too?

After all, surveys from the National Education Association indicate that over 55% of teachers plan to leave the profession sooner than they planned . While teacher shortages have dire consequences for our children, and the future of our communities, improving teacher well-being is at the heart of the issue.

"Show up and give support to your teachers ... How is it that every day we can give teachers our greatest natural resource — our children's brains — and not think they deserve more of everything?" ‍ — Sheryl Lee Ralph (Ms. Barbara Howard on Abbott Elementary)

“Show up and give support to your teachers,” Ralph told Good Good Good in an interview. “Please, respect the teachers. Pay them the money that they deserve. How is it that every day we can give teachers our greatest natural resource — our children’s brains — and not think they deserve more of everything?”

Take it from Ms. Howard herself; Teacher appreciation is important — vital, even — but it’s the first step in building a world where educators are supported, cherished, and funded wholeheartedly.

While it’s important to uplift teachers every single day, it’s helpful to have somewhere to start. We’ve created a guide on how to meaningfully celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week this year.

Read good news about teachers and education.

Part of the fun of celebrating teachers also means celebrating good news about teachers — and education as a whole.

We’re all about good news at Good Good Good — and we’ve even created an Education Edition of our Goodnewspaper !

Here are a few education-focused good news stories to get you started:

  • A Washington school district worked to help homeless students graduate at the same rate as their peers
  • Hank Green created a project that helps you get college credit when you watch educational YouTube videos
  • These states have started buying local for school lunches — and want others to follow suit
  • This organization in Baltimore teaches STEM while riding dirt bikes

Plus, we have a whole library of good news stories about education to inspire you, too.

2. Give a Gift

Write a thank you note..

The power of gratitude is tried and true; there are even health benefits that demonstrate how much a simple thank-you note can impact us!

While a short and sweet message can carry a big amount of significance, it’s still important to be thoughtful and intentional. (Feel free to take inspiration from our teacher affirmations article.)

Give specific examples of how a teacher has made a difference in your life, connect over a shared memory — or hey, even break out the fancy eco-friendly stationery for the special occasion.

Give your teachers a gift card.

While Pinterest is indeed full of fun, cute crafts for Teacher Appreciation Week, sometimes the most impactful gift you can give is a gift card — so teachers can spend money how they’d like.

Coffee shop gift cards are always great, but they’ve kind of become the modern-day apple; kind, but not always unique. If you’re short on time, it still shows you care, but if you’re able, try thinking outside of the box!

Really consider what would make the teacher in question feel seen and appreciated. (You can even send your kids on a super-secret mission to ask their teacher about their favorite interests or stores!)

Consider something universal and helpful, like a gift card to a grocery or department store, or even a gas station — or get specific and target a teacher’s hobbies , interests, or needs (if I were a teacher, I’d probably want a Chewy gift card to feed my obsession of buying things for my dog, for example).

Explore Teacher Appreciation Week gift ideas.

Like we said, shopping for gifts teachers actually want is the key to a meaningful present (that means no more coffee mugs). Plus, we’re pretty positive most parents don’t have hours to spend creating an elaborate craft out of No. 2 pencils.

So, here are a few gift ideas that tap into a teacher’s real wants and needs, all while helping busy parents along the way:

Simple Individual Gifts:

  • Gift cards to local cafes, restaurants, or lunch spots
  • Gift cards to major retailers like Target or Amazon
  • Items from your teacher’s Amazon wish list
  • Little treats! (Examples: A 12-pack of their favorite soda, snacks, a made-with-love pastry, or — you didn’t hear it from us — a bottle of wine)
  • A pack of every teacher’s favorite pens
  • High-quality self-care items (Examples: Moisturizers, face masks, cozy socks , or anything else that can help them relax at the end of the day)

Bigger Individual Gifts:

  • Personalized keepsakes (Examples: Photo books, customized lanyards, a name plaque, or a big tote bag)
  • A flower bouquet, delivered with a note of gratitude
  • Gift cards for experiences, like a movie night or spa day
  • Volunteer hours!

Simple Group Gifts:

  • Gift cards for a larger amount of money
  • Framed photo or photo album of the whole class
  • A charcuterie board to graze on
  • A donation to a cause or charity close to your teacher’s heart

Bigger Group Gifts:

  • A fancy new desk chair
  • Classroom items, like a new bookshelf, reading nook furniture, or decor items

Bonus idea: If you’re involved in the school community or part of the PTA, consider making a directory or spreadsheet with gift ideas or favorites for each teacher in the school. Digital forms make this super easy and can help you find personalized gifts for next year!

Donate classroom supplies.

Did you know that teachers in America spend an average of $500 a year on classroom supplies with their own money? If that number sounds overwhelming, we’ll give you some extra perspective: In total, American teachers spend $1.6 billion on materials that schools do not budget for each year.

These can include additional instructional supplies like pencils, markers, or notebooks — or care items like tissues, hand sanitizer, or cleaning products.

If you’re a parent, or just a community member who cares about teachers (and their students!), consider donating classroom supplies. Check out a teacher’s Amazon wish list , or just ask what they could use more of.

Something as small as a box of crayons or some granola bars can truly make a huge difference.

Consider past teachers.

If you have the means, consider continuing to support the teachers who made a difference in your or your kids’ lives in the past with a small token of appreciation. We’re sure they’ll feel extra special that you thought of them again this year.

Consider other educators.

There are so many amazing individuals who contribute to a school community.

During Teacher Appreciation Week, make sure you include secretaries, paraprofessionals, teaching assistants, elective teachers, music teachers, coaches, administrators, counselors, janitors, or cafeteria teams who have made an impact.

3. Take Action

Donate to nonprofits that support teachers. .

Beyond our own classroom experiences, teachers around the country — and around the globe — need our support to continue providing safe, meaningful, and inclusive educational experiences to students of all backgrounds.

Here are a few organizations dedicated to teachers and education that could use a little love:

  • Teach For America
  • Donors Choose
  • Fund For Teachers
  • AdoptAClassroom
  • Teach For All
  • Teaching For Change
  • National Prism Alliances
  • National Environmental Education Foundation
  • Educators Without Borders
  • Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation
  • Malala Fund
  • College Promise

Advocate for policies that support teachers.

Across the country, teachers face policies that slash school budgets , attack diverse curricula , and discriminate against teachers and students in marginalized communities . Not to mention, of course, the sobering reality that teachers are on the front lines of gun violence in schools .

Along with all the other regular stressors teachers face, putting educators at the helm of these issues keeps them from doing what they do best: Teaching their students.

Along with the very obvious need to advocate for policies that financially support teachers , it’s also important to advocate against policies that make their jobs even harder — or potentially put them and their students in harm’s way.

Whether it’s showing up to school board meetings, calling your elected officials , or testifying before your state legislature, teachers need your help to make schools a better and safer place.

Show your support for teachers by volunteering or joining the PTA.

The best gift you can give a teacher? Taking some work off their plate. If you’re a parent or community member with some time on your hands, see if you can volunteer regularly to support your teachers.

From making copies or hanging bulletin boards, to helping lead small groups or facilitate spelling tests, your work shows teachers (and your own kiddos!) that you care.

You can also consider joining parent groups like a PTA or PTO to help coordinate more teacher appreciation initiatives, activities, or fundraisers.

Make your teachers’ lives easier.

Even if you don’t have a lot of time to give to a special group like the PTA, or even if you’re a student or administrator, there are so many little acts of kindness you can do to make a teacher’s life easier.

If you’re an administrator, you could consider turning a meeting into an email (if possible), allowing a jeans-free-for-all dress code during the week, or even host an open forum for teachers to discuss their needs and wants, and see what you can do.

Students can contribute by cleaning up the classroom, coming in before or after school to arrange activities for the day, or just be on their extra best behavior.

Think about the best days you’ve had in a classroom; what made it the best? How can you do your part to help your teachers do their very best jobs?

4. Celebrate

If you work at a school as an administrator or another role — or you’re a parent who can request to come into school outside of normal hours — consider the ways you can do your part to celebrate teachers:

Decorate classroom doors.

At the start of Teacher Appreciation Week, throw your teachers a mini individual “we appreciate you!” party by decorating their classroom doors. Go all out with the themes, colors, and symbols they love most — but just be sure to clean up by the end of the week, so they don’t have to.

Better yet? Go undercover and ask students (or other parents) to write some reasons they love and appreciate their teachers and use them as decorations, too.

Create a Teacher Appreciation Week theme.

Whether you plan a special theme for each day of Teacher Appreciation Week, or go all-out with a theme for the whole week, this can be a fun way to plan events, brainstorm decorations, give special gifts, or execute small surprises throughout the week.

A few ideas for Teacher Appreciation Week themes include:

  • You’re A Star (think: celestial, space, or Hollywood)
  • Major League Appreciation (think: sports)
  • Teachers Are Real Heroes (think: superheroes)
  • You Deserve Some R&R (think: self-care or spa-related activities)
  • We Couldn’t Have Picked A Better Teacher (think: flowers, apples, picnics)

5. Post on Social Media

Follow teachers on social media..

The power of social media is not to be underestimated. With such a recent, quick pivot to digital learning opportunities, social media has become a space for teachers to share meaningful insights to their work, lives, and classrooms.

Find a diverse bunch of teachers to follow on social media, and let yourself learn a little more every day — even if you haven’t done algebra in decades.

Post about the power of teachers.

After you’ve shared your hand-written thank you note or catered a yummy meal for your teachers, it’s helpful to remember that a public act of appreciation also goes a long way.

Do you have a story of a teacher who made an impact on your life many moons ago? (We’re sure you do.)

Do you have an anecdote about a time your child’s teacher saved the day? (We’re sure you do.)

Do you have a gallery of first-day-of-school memories that are that much more special when you think of the teacher at the front of the classroom? (We’re sure you do.)

Take Teacher Appreciation Week as an opportunity to share those stories, thank a teacher who paved the way for your future, and honor those who continue to uplift and encourage our young people every day.

Teacher Appreciation Week Gifts

Plants or flowers: Plants and flowers are a fun and easy gift for Teacher Appreciation Week. According to  Greendigs , many plants are good in a classroom setting because they reduce stress and increase productivity. Low-maintenance options include Peperomia and Monstera. A variety of planted herbs like rosemary, sage and basil are also good choices. As for flowers,  ode à la rose  recommends daisies, orchids, dahlias, carnations, chrysanthemums and peonies.

School supplies: According to the  National Education Association,  educators spend around $500 to $750 out of pocket on school supplies each year. Cost of school supplies is also on the rise, increasing nearly 24% between 2021 and 2023.  Raymond Geddes , an online schools supplies shop, recommends buying items in bulk for a teacher's classroom. These include pencils, dry-erase markers, coloring supplies, loose-leaf paper and tissue boxes. Other items like grade books, post-it notes, paper towels, glue sticks and index cards are recommended by  Classful.

Something thoughtful: According to  Teaching Traveling,  the best gift a teacher can receive is a thoughtful letter from a student, whether handwritten or an email. Including specific details of how the teacher has impacted a student during the academic year, like a favorite classroom memory or lesson plan, helps them feel appreciated. Making homemade baked goods for your teacher is an alternative.

Another way to come up with a thoughtful gift is by gathering groups of parents to contribute to school or classroom needs, according to the  website . For example, parents could pool donations to replace classroom items like a printer or old textbooks. A larger group of parents could help with landscaping needs or donate student lunches.
