ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਿਉਹਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਸਥਾਨ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਹੈ। ਡੁਲ੍ਹਦੇ ਛਲਕਦੇ ਰੰਗ, ਉੱਡਦਾ ਗੁਲਾਲ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿਹਰਿਆਂ ‘ਤੇ ਵੀ ਲਾਲੀ ਲਿਆ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਇਹ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਫੱਗਣ ਦੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਫਾਗ ਵੀ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਮਹੀਨਾ ਮਾਰਚ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਰਦੀ ਦੀ ਰੁੱਤ ਲੰਘ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਫ਼ਸਲਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਬਹਾਰ ਆਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਨਵਾਂ ਰੂਪ, ਜੋਬਨ ਤੇ ਖੇੜਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ | ਅੰਬਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੂਰ ਪਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਲਾਬ ਅਤੇ ਬੋਗਨ ਵਿਲੀਆ ਖਿੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਲੋਕ ਰੰਗ ਬਰੰਗੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਪਿਚਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਇੱਕ-ਦੂਜੇ ‘ਤੇ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਟੋਲੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਟੋਲੀਆਂ ਰੰਗ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਲਾਲ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਗਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।ਇੱਕ ਦੂਜੇ ‘ਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਪਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਲੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਧਾਈਆਂ ਵੰਡਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਬਾਹਰ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ, ਬਾਗ਼ਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਨੇ ਰੰਗ ਖਿਲਾਰਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ, ਸ਼ਹਿਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਬਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ, ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਭ ਪਾਸੇ ਰੰਗ ਹੀ ਰੰਗ, ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ, ਗੀਤ ਹੀ ਗੀਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕਈ ਥਾਈਂ ਇਹ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਦਿਨ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।ਯੂ.ਪੀ. ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਗਪੱਗ ਇੱਕ ਮਹੀਨਾ ਇਸ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਚਲਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਇਸ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਦੇ ਮਨਾਏ ਜਾਣ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਇੱਕ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਚਲਿਤ ਹੈ। ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਪਾਪੀ ਰਾਜਾ ਹਰਨਾਕਸ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਧਰਮੀ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਦੀ ਭੈਣ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਕੋਲ ਇੱਕ ਕੱਪੜਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਰਦਾਨ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਪਰ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਭਸਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕੇਗੀ। ਸੋ ਭਾਈ ਦੇ ਕਹਿਣ ਤੇ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਕੱਪੜਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਗੋਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਅੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੈਠ ਗਈ। ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਹਵਾ ਚਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਕੱਪੜਾ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਡ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਉੱਪਰ ਆ ਗਿਆ। ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ ਪਰ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਸੜ ਗਈ। ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਦੇ ਸੜ ਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਣ ਲਗਾ।

ਇਹ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਤਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਕਈ ਲੋਕ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਰੰਗ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਗੰਦ ਪਾਉਣ ਲਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸਿੱਟੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਲੜਾਈ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਸੋ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ। ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਮ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਅਣਜਾਣ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।ਅੱਜ ਕੱਲ੍ਹ ਕੁਝ ਦੁਕਾਨਦਾਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਫ਼ਾਇਦੇ ਲਈ ਨਕਲੀ ਰੰਗ ਵੇਚਣ ਲਗ ਪਏ ਹਨ। ਅਜਿਹਾ ਰੰਗ ਬਹੁਤ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੋਲੀ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੜੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਸਾਡੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਆਪਣੀ ਖਾਸ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਜੋ ਆਨੰਦ ਈਦ ਵਿਚ ਅਤੇ ਈਸਾਈ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਮਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,ਹਿੰਦੁਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹੀ ਅਨੰਦ ਹੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਨੱਚ ਉਠਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਈਆਂ ਤਰੇੜਾਂ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੇ ਗਲੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਪਿਤਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੋਣ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਸਾਬਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਹੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਹਰ ਸਾਲ ਫੱਗਨ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਕਲ ਪੂਰਨਮਾਸ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਾਡੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪੁਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਹੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ । ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਦਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼ ਇਕ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਈਸ਼ਵਰ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦਾ ਪਰਮ ਭਗਤ ਸੀ। ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਢੰਗ ਅਪਣਾਏ ਪਰ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਕੌਣ ਮਾਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ? ਪਰੰਤੂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭੁਆ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਲਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਬਣਾਈ। ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਨਾ ਜਲਣ ਦਾ ਵਰਦਾਨ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਆਪਣੀ ਭੂਆ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਗਿਆ। ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਬਚ ਨਿਕਲਿਆ ਪਰ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਸੜ । ਕੁੱਝ ਲੋਕ ਇਸ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਅਰੰਭ ਪੂਤਨ ਬੱਧ ਤੋਂ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ। ਭਗਵਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਨੇ ਪੂਤਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਕੇ ਗਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਗਵਾਲਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਲੀਲਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਖੂਬ ਖੇਡੇ।

ਇਸ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਆਗਮਨ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਸਰਦੀ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਅੱਤ ਗਰਮੀ ਦਾ ਆਰਭ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਲੋਕ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਮਨਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਵੀ ਬੜੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਉਡਾ ਕੇ, ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਪੱਤੇ ਗਿਰਾ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਫੁੱਲ ਅਤੇ ਪੱਤੇ ਲਹਿਰਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਬਸੰਤ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਦੇਸ਼ ਦਾ ਅੰਨਦਾਤਾ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਰੇ ਭਰੇ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਨੱਚ ਉਠਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹਾੜੀ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਫਸਲ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਹੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਲੋਕ ਨਵੇਂ ਅਨਾਜ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਲੀ ਵਿਚ ਜਲਾ ਕੇ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਚ ਹੁਣ ਵੀ ਛੋਲੀਏ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਜਲਾ ਕੇ ਖਾਧਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਲਾ’ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਇਸ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਭਰੇ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਵਿਚ ਲੋਕ ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਇਕ-ਦੂਜੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਮਨਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਲਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹਰੇਕ ਗਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਜ਼ਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਲਕੜਾਂ ਦੇ ਢੇਰ ਜਲਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਗ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਪਟਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਕੇ ਲੋਕ ਭਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਕੇ ਈਸ਼ਵਰ ਦਾ ਗੁਣਗਾਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜਨ ਦੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਲੋਕ ਹਸਦਿਆਂ-ਖੇਡਦਿਆਂ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਤੋਂ ਗੁਲਾਲ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਵੈਰ-ਵਿਰੋਧ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੇ ਗਲੇ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ। ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੁਣ ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਸਮਾਰੋਹ ਵੀ ਹੋਣ ਲੱਗੇ ਹਨ। ਲੋਕ ਅਬੀਰ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਲਾਲ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸਥਾਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਹਾਸਰਸ ਦੇ ਕਵੀ ਸੰਮੇਲਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਦਿੱਲੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਮੂਰਖ-ਸੰਮੇਲਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਵਿਦਾਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਧਾ ਦੇ ਸਵਾਂਗ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਫਾਗ (ਹੋਲੀ) ਖੇਡਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਦੇਖਣ ਯੋਗ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਸੁਤੰਤਰ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤਿਉਹਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਵਧ ਗਈ। ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਸਾਡੀ ਏਕਤਾ, ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਭਿਅਤਾ ਦੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਰਾਖੇ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਜਕਲ ਹੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਮਨਾਉਣ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਝ ਬੁਰਾਈ ਆ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਗੰਦਗੀ ਜਾਂ ਤਾਰਕੋਲ ਪਾ ਕੇ, ਗਾਲਾਂ ਕੱਢ ਕੇ ਜਾਂ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਪੀ ਕੇ ਹੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਨੂੰ ਘੱਟ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕੁਝ ਮਹਿੰਗਾਈ ਕਰਕੇ ਵੀ ਲੋਕ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਖਰਾਬ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਸੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ, ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਹੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਕੁਝ ਘਟ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਾਲ ਵੱਖਰੇ-ਵੱਖਰੇ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਮਨਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸਾਰੇ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਕਾਰਨਾਂ ਵਜੋਂ ਮਨਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੋਲੀ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਿਓਹਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਕ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਵੀ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਹਰ ਸਾਲ ਮਾਰਚ ਦੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਕਈ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਵੀ ਜੁੜੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ  ਹਨ।

ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ 

ਪ੍ਰਲਾਦ ਅਸੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹਿਰਨਾਂ ਕਸ਼ਿਅਪ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਈਸ਼ਵਰ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਭਗਤ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਓਹਦਾ ਇਹ ਸਬ ਕਰਨਾ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਸੀ। ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਭੈਣ ਵੀ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਸੀ।ਉਹਦੀ ਭੈਣ ਨੂੰ ਆਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾ ਜਲਣ ਦਾ ਵਰਦਾਨ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਹਿਰਨਾਂ ਕਸ਼ਯਪ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਆਪਣੀ ਭੈਣ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਭੇਜਿਆ।ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਗੋਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਕੇ  ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਗਈ। ਪ੍ਰਲਾਦ ਨੇ ਈਸ਼ਵਰ  ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲਓ। ਤਾਂ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਲਾਦ ਤਾਂ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ ਪਰ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਅੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੱਲ ਕੇ ਰਾਖ ਹੋ ਗਈ।

ਪੂਤਨਾ ਦੇ  ਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਘਟਨਾ

ਇਸ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ ਹੋਰ ਘਟਨਾ ਵੀ ਜੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਇਕ ਵਾਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਲਾਇ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਕੰਸ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਪੂਤਨਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਕਸ਼ਸੀ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵੱਧ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਪੂਤਨਾ ਦੇ ਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਰਿੰਧਵਨ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜਸ਼ਨ ਮਨਾਇਆ। ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦੀ ਉਸ ਚਮਤਕਾਰੀ ਘਟਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਇ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਆਪਸੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਦਾ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ

ਹੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਟੋਲੀਆਂ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਮਹੱਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਘੁਮਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਕ -ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਰੰਗ ਲਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸਾਰੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਇਕ -ਦੂਜੇ ਤੇ  ਰੰਗੀਨ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਖ਼ਰਾਬ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਕਿਓਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਨਫਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਬੁਰੀਆਂ ਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ  ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਮਜ਼ੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਲੋਕ ਮਨ ਮੁਟਾਵ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਲੋਕ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਦਹਨ ਮਨਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੇਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਅੱਗ ਜਲਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਰਿਗਰਮਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਹੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁੱਧਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ਰਾਬ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਨਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਤੇ ਅੰਡਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਖੇਡਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਕਈ ਲੜਾਈ ਝਗੜੇ ਇਸ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਮਾਹੌਲ ਖਰਾਬ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸਲਈ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਖੇਡਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਰਾਜ਼ ਹੋ ਕੇ, ਹੀਰਣਯਕਸ਼ਪ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਈ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ। ਅਜਿਹੀ ਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਭੈਣ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਾ ਸਾੜਨ ਦੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਬਣਾਈ। ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਰੋਧਕ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ। ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਗੋਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਚਿਤਾ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੈਠ ਗਈ, ਪਰ ਉਸਦੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਇਰਾਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਨੇ ਭਸਮ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ।

ਹਾਸਰਸ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਅੰਗ ਦੇ ਕਵੀ ਸੰਮੇਲਨ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇੱਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮਜ਼ਾਕ ਉਡਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਜ਼ਾਕ ਉਡਾ ਕੇ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਸਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ‘ਮਹਾਮੁਖ’ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਵੀ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਿੰਡ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਇੱਜ਼ਤਦਾਰ ਬੰਦਾ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੋਣਾ ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਹੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਰੁੱਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਵੀ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਫ਼ਸਲਾਂ ਪੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਦੇਖ ਕੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਫੁੱਲਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ।

ਹੋਲੀ ਨੂੰ ‘ਅਸ਼ਟਿਕਾ’ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਵੀ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਜੈਨ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਅੱਠ ਦਿਨ ਸਿੱਧ ਚੱਕਰ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਪਿਆਰ, ਸਦਭਾਵਨਾ, ਦੋਸਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਨਤਾ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਹੈ।

ਹਿੰਦੁਆਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਚਾਰ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਹਨ-ਦੀਵਾਲੀ, ਦੁਸਹਿਰਾ, ਰੱਖੜੀ ਤੇ ਹੋਲੀ । ਵੈਸੇ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਬੜੇ ਚਾਅ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹੈ | ਪਰ ਹੋਲੀ ਕੁੱਝ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਤੇ ਰੀਝਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਇਹ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਹੈ | ਸਭ ਜਾਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਿਲੇ ਸਿਕਵੇ ਭੁੱਲ ਕੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਇਹ ਤਿਓਹਾ ਫੱਗਣ ਦੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ · ਪੂਰਨਮਾਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । 

ਹੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ , ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਕਥਾ ਜੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ । ਸਤਯੁੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਹਰਨਾਕਸ਼ ਨਾਂ ਦਾ · ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ । ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਸੀ । ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਮੰਨਣ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ । ਉਹ ਈਸ਼ਵਰ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੇ ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ । ਪਿਤਾ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਤੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਹਿਲਾਦ ਨਾ ਡਰਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹਿਆ । ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਪਹਾੜ ਤੋਂ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ, ਤੱਤੇ ਖੰਭੇ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਇਆ ਪਰ ਹਿਲਾਦ ਹਰ ਵਾਰ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ | ਹਰਨਾਕਸ਼ ਦੀ ਭੈਣ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਰ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਅੱਗ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਾੜੇਗੀ । ਸੋ ਰਾਜਾ ਨੇ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਗੋਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਇੱਟਾਂ ਪਕਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਆਵੇ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਜਾਵੇ । ਰਬ ਦੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਜਲ ਗਈ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ । ਇਸ ਕਥਾ ਦੀ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਬਾਰੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਪੂਰਾ ਯਕੀਨ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਰੱਖੀਏ ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸੱਚ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਨੇਕੀ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਬਦੀ ਤੋਂ ਜਿੱਤ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । ਇਸੇ ਦਿਨ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । 

ਹੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਮਠਿਆਈਆਂ ਬਣਾਈਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ । ਚੌਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਕੜੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਢੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਵਜੇ ਜਲਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਚ ਤੇ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਸਵੇਰ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਲੋਕ ਪਿਚਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਲਾਲ-ਹਰਾ ਗੁਲਾਬ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮਿੱਤਰਾਂ ਸੰਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਵੱਲ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਲਗਾ ਕੇ ਗਲੇ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਮਸਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਦਿਨ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।

ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਨੂੰ fool day ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਪਰ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਤੀਕ ਰੰਗ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਠੀਕ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਤਾਂ ਲੋਕ ਇਕ ਦੁਸਰੇ ਤੇ ਤੇਲ, ਵਾਰਨਿਸ਼, ਗੰਦਾ ਚਿੱਕੜ ਆਦਿ ਲਾਉਣ ਤੇ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਤੇ ਸੁੱਟਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਇਹਨਾਂ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਤੇ ਬੁਰਾ ਅਸਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਰੰਗ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਆਪਣੀ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਭੰਗ, ਚਰਸ, ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਲੜਾਈਆਂ ਫਬਾਦ ਕਰਨੇ ਇਸ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।

ਹੋਲੀ ਭਾਰਤ ਦਾ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਹੈ । ਇਹ ਸੰਪ੍ਰਦਾਇਕ ਏਕਤਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਹੈ | ਬੁਰੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਅਸਲੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁੱਲਣਾ ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਅ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿ ਸਕੇ ।

ਹੌਲੀ ਦੇ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਦੀ ਭੂਆ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿਚ ਹਰਨਾਕਸ਼ ਨਾਂ ਇਕ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਖੁਦ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਉਸਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਣ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਮਨਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਹਰਨਾਕਸ਼ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਟਸ ਤੋਂ ਮਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ। ਹਰਨਾਕਸ਼ ਦੀ ਭੈਣ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਦੀ ਭੂਆ ਸੀ, ਨੂੰ ਵਰ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਅੱਗ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ। ਹਰਨਾਕਸ਼ ਦੇ ਕਹਿਣ ਤੇ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਗਈ। ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਐਸੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੋਈ ਕਿ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਸੜ ਗਈ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਬੱਚ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਕ ਵਾਰ ਫਿਰ ਨੇ ਕੀ ਦੀ ਬਦੀ ਤੇ ਜਿੱਤ ਹੋਈ। ਇਸੇ ਦਿਨ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੌਲੀ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦੇ ਗੋਪਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਖੇਡ ਕੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਮਨਾਉਣ ਨਾਲ ਵੀ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਭਗਵਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਨਗਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੌਲੀ ਤੋਂ ਕਈ ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਹੀ ਰਾਸ-ਲੀਲਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਕਦੋਂ ਮਨਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ

ਹੌਲੀ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਉਸ ਮੌਸਮ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੱਦ ਸਰਦੀ ਅਲੋਪ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਗਰਮੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਬਸੰਤ ਰੁੱਤ ਕਾਰਣ ਚਾਰੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਦਰਖਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਬੂਟਿਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਹਰਿਆਲੀ ਛਾਂ ਰਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਥਾਂ-ਥਾਂ ਰੰਗ-ਬਿਰੰਗੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਖਿਲ ਰਹੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਹੌਲੀ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮਨਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ

ਹੌਲੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹੀ ਲੋਕ ਪਿਚਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਦਾਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਤੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਲ-ਪੀਲੇ ਰੰਗ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਿੱਤਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਚਲ ਪੈਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਮ ਕੇ ਰੰਗ ਲਾਉਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਕਰਵਾਉਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਯਾਰ-ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰ ਕਈ ਬਹਾਨਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੱਢ ਕੇ ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਥੋੜਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਰੰਗ ਗੁਲਾਲ ਲਾ ਹੀ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰਾ ਦਿਨ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਸਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਲਕੜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਢੇਰ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਸਾੜਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਭਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਹੌਲੀ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਰੰਗ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਬੂਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ। ਪਰ ਅੱਜਕਲ੍ਹ ਲੋਕ ਰੰਗ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਗ੍ਰੀਸ, ਤੇਲ ਗੰਦਾ ਚਿੱਕੜ ਆਦਿ ਸੁੱਟਣ ਲਗ ਪਏ ਹਨ। ਦੂਰੋਂ ਲੁੱਕੇ ਕੇ ਜਾਂ ਛਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਰ ਚੜ ਕੇ ਚੋਰੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਭਰੇ ਗੁਬਾਰੇ ਤੇ ਆਂਡੇ ਮਾਰਨਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਗਲਤ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ। ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਭੰਗ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਆਦਿ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਕਰਕੇ ਲੜਾਇਆਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਨੂੰ ਧੱਕਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਘੱਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਹੌਲੀ ਇਕ ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਭਰਾ ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤਕ ਤੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਇਸਦੇ ਸਹੀ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਸਮੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਬੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਆ ਗਈ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਲਦੀ ਹੀ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੇ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਤੇ ਚਾਅ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਾਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਅਸਲੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ । ਇਹ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਸਾਡੇ ਆਪਸੀ ਵੈਰ-ਵਿਰੋਧ ਭੁਲਾਉਣ ਵਿਚ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਸਿੱਧ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ : ਹੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਸਾਡੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਖਾਸ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਤਿਉਹਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਕ ਹੈ। ਹੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਆਉਣ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਭ ਭੇਦਭਾਵ ਅਤੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣੀ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਭਾਈਵਾਲ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਉਤਸੁਕ ਹੋ ਉੱਠਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਦੋਸਤਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੱਸਦਾ-ਟੱਪਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਮਨਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਸੋਹਣੀ ਰੁੱਤ : ਹਰ ਸਾਲ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਿੱਤਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਬੜੀ ਹੋਲੀ ਖੇਡਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਹੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਉਸ ਮੌਸਮ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਸਰਦੀ ਦਿਨੋ-ਦਿਨ ਖਤਮ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਗਰਮੀ ਵੱਧਦੀ ਹੈ। ਬਸੰਤ ਰੁੱਤ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਦਰੱਖ਼ਤਾਂ, ਬੂਟਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਛੋਟੇ ਪੌਦਿਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਰਿਆਲੀ ਛਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਰੰਗ-ਬਰੰਗੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਖਿੜ ਰਹੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਛੋਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਡੂਡ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੋਲਾਂ ਖਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਇਕ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਣੀ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਛੋਲਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੋਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਵੀ ਹੋਲੀ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਪਿਛੋਕੜ : ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਹੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਸੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਜੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪੂਤਨਾ ਦਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਗੋਪੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਖੇਡ ਕੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਮਨਾਉਣ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਕਈ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਪਿੱਠਭੂਮੀ ਪਹਿਲਾਦ ਭਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਚੱਲਤ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹਿਲਾਦ ਦੇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਦਾਈ ਦਾ ਦਾਅਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਦੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਬਣਾਈ। ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਦੀ ਭੂਆ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਨਾ ਸੜਨ ਦਾ ਵਰਦਾਨ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਚੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਗਈ। ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਤਾਂ ਬੱਚ ਗਿਆ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਗਈ। ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਹੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹਿੰਦੂਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਿੱਖ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਅਗਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਹੋਲਾ ਮਨਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਆਨੰਦਪੁਰ ਦਾ ਹੋਲਾ ਮੁਹੱਲਾ ਬੜਾ ਮਸ਼ਹੂਰ ਹੈ।

ਰੰਗ ਪਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ : ਹੋਲੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਮੈਂ ਅਜੇ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਨਹਾ-ਧੋ ਕੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਾਏ ਹੀ ਸਨ ਕਿ ਸਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਰੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੁਝ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਭੈਣਾਂ ਰੰਗ ਦੇ ਲਿਫਾਫੇ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਆਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਸਿੱਟਣੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ । ਕੋਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੁੰਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਲਗਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਕੋਈ ਵਾਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਕੱਪੜਿਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ। ਜਦੋਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਉਹ ਰੰਗ ਸੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਮਲ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਘਰ ਦੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉੱਪਰ ਰੰਗ ਸੁੱਟਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਦੂਜੀ ਗਲੀ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਇਕ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਵੱਲ ਗਏ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਰ ਦੋਸਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਲੀ ਖੇਡਦਾ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ। ਦੋਹਾਂ ਗਰੁੱਪਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਰੰਗ ਸੁੱਟ-ਸੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਖੂਬ ਦਿਲ ਪਰਚਾਵਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਇਕ ਨਰਾਜ਼ ਹੋਏ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਨੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਵੱਧ ਕੇ ਰੰਗ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਬੱਸ ਇੰਨੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸਾਡੀ ਮੰਨ-ਮਨਾਈ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਸਾਡੇ ਇਕ ਸਾਥੀ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਚਿੱਟ ਕੱਪੜੀਏ ਸਾਈਕਲ ਸਵਾਰ ਉੱਪਰ ਰੰਗ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ, ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਰਜਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਓਪਰੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਰੰਗ ਨਾ ਸੁੱਟੇ। ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਅਸੀਂ ਕੁਝ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਚਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਦਾਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਇਕ-ਦੂਜੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਸੁੱਟਦਿਆਂ ਦੇਖਿਆ। ਅਸੀਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੀ ਹੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ।

ਸਾਡਾ ਇਕ ਦੋਸਤ ਅਚਾਨਕ ਸਾਡੇ ਕਾਬੂ ਆ ਗਿਆ। ਉਸਨੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ, ਪਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਥੋੜਾ ਵੀ ਲਿਹਾਜ਼ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਉਹ ਥੋੜਾ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਗਿਆ, ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਹੋਲੀ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਸਰਦੇ-ਪੁੱਜਦੇ ਲੀਡਰ ਵੀ ਖੇਡਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ, ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਠੰਡਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਵੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਹੋਲੀ ਖੇਡਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ।

ਹਿੰਦੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਚਾਰ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਹਨ-ਦੀਵਾਲੀ, ਦੁਸਹਿਰਾ, ਰੱਖੜੀ ਤੇ ਹੋਲੀ । ਵੈਸੇ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਬੜੇ ਚਾਅ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹੈ । ਪਰ ਹੋਲੀ ਕੁੱਝ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਤੇ ਰੀਝਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਇਹ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਹੈ । ਸਭ ਜਾਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਿਲੇ-ਸਿਕਵੇ ਭੁੱਲ ਕੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਇਹ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਫੱਗਣ ਦੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਪੂਰਨਮਾਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।

ਹੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਕਥਾ ਜੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ । ਸਤਯੁੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਹਰਨਾਕਸ਼ ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ । ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਸੀ । ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਪਹਿਲਾਦ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਮੰਨਣ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ । ਉਹ ਈਸ਼ਵਰ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੇ ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਪਿਤਾ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਤੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਦ ਨਾ ਡਰਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹਿਆ । ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਪਹਾੜ ਤੋਂ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ, ਤੱਤੇ ਖੰਭੇ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਇਆ ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਹਰ ਵਾਰ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ। ਹਰਨਾਕਸ਼ ਦੀ ਭੈਣ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਰ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਅੱਗ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਾੜੇਗੀ । ਸੋ ਰਾਜਾ ਨੇ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ | ਉਹ ਪਹਿਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਗੋਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਇੱਟਾਂ ਪਕਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਆਵੇ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਜਾਵੇ । ਰਬ ਦੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੋਲਿਕਾ ਜਲ ਗਈ ਤੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਦ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ | ਇਸ ਕਥਾ ਦੀ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਬਾਰੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਪੂਰਾ ਯਕੀਨ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਰੱਖੀਏ , ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸੱਚ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਨੇਕੀ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਬਦੀ ਤੋਂ ਜਿੱਤ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । ਇਸੇ ਦਿਨ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।

ਹੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਮਠਿਆਈਆਂ ਬਣਾਈਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਚੌਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਕੜੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਢੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਵਜੇ ਜਲਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਨਾਚ ਤੇ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਸਵੇਰ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਲੋਕ ਪਿਚਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਲਾਲ-ਹਰਾ ਗੁਲਾਬ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮਿੱਤਰਾਂ ਸੰਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਵੱਲ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਲਗਾ ਕੇ ਗਲੇ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਮਸਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਦਿਨ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।

ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਨੂੰ fool day ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਪਰ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਤੀਕ ਰੰਗ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਠੀਕ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਤਾਂ ਲੋਕ ਇਕ ਦੂਸਰੇ ਤੇ ਤੇਲ, ਵਾਰਨਿਸ਼, ਗੰਦਾ ਚਿੱਕੜ ਆਦਿ ਲਾਉਣ ਤੇ, ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਤੇ ਸੁੱਟਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਇਹਨਾਂ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਤੇ ਬੁਰਾ ਅਸਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਰੰਗ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਆਪਣੀ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਗਵਾਂ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਭੰਗ, ਚਰਸ, ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਲੜਾਈਆਂ ਫਸਾਦ ਕਰਨੇ ਇਸ ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ |

Holi is known as the festival of colours. It is one of the most important festivals in India . Holi is celebrated each year with zeal and enthusiasm in the month of March by followers of the Hindu religion. Those who celebrate this festival, wait for it every year eagerly to play with colours and have delectable dishes.

Holi is about celebrating happiness with friends and family. People forget their troubles and indulge in this festival to celebrate brotherhood. In other words, we forget our enmities and get into the festival spirit. Holi is called the festival of colours because people play with colours and apply them to each other’s faces to get coloured in the essence of the festival.

History of Holi

The Hindu religion believes there was a devil king named Hiranyakashyap long ago. He had a son named Prahlad and a sister called Holika. It is believed that the devil king had blessings of Lord Brahma. This blessing meant no man, animal or weapon could kill him. This blessing turned into a curse for him as he became very arrogant. He ordered his kingdom to worship him instead of God, not sparing his own son.

Following this, all the people began worshipping him except for his son, Prahlad. Prahlad refused to worship his father instead of God as he was a true believer of Lord Vishnu. Upon seeing his disobedience, the devil king planned with his sister to kill Prahlad. He made her sit in the fire with his son on the lap, where Holika got burned and Prahlad came out safe. This indicated he was protected by his Lord because of his devotion. Thus, people started celebrating Holi as the victory of good over evil.

The Celebration of Holi

People celebrate Holi with utmost fervour and enthusiasm, especially in North India. One day before Holi, people conduct a ritual called ‘Holika Dahan’. In this ritual, people pile heaps of wood in public areas to burn. It symbolizes the burning of evil powers revising the story of Holika and King Hiranyakashyap. Furthermore, they gather around the Holika to seek blessings and offer their devotion to God.

The next day is probably the most colourful day in India. People get up in the morning and offer pooja to God. Then, they dress up in white clothes and play with colours. They splash water on one another. Children run around splashing water colours using water guns. Similarly, even the adults become children on this day. They rub colour on each other’s faces and immerse themselves in water.

In the evening, they bathe and dress up nicely to visit their friends and family. They dance throughout the day and drink a special drink called the ‘bhaang’. People of all ages relish holi’s special delicacy ‘gujiya’ ardently.

In short, Holi spreads love and brotherhood. It brings harmony and happiness in the country. Holi symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. This colourful festival unites people and removes all sorts of negativity from life.

Holi is a major Hindu festival of India, celebrated in the Hindu calendar month of Phalgun. The festival lasts for one night and one day, beginning on a Purnima (full moon day) in Phalgun. Holi is a major Hindu festival, celebrated annually in spring season. It is the festival of colors during which people, streets and houses could be seen covered in different colors. It is also called the festival of love, as people play with colors, forgetting their old enmity and renewing the relationships.

Holi is a two day festival, which begins the night before the main festival with choti (small) holi, when large pyre is burned on streets as a symbol of Holika dahan (burning of the demoness Holika) symbolic to the victory of good over evil. The next day people play with colors and in evening visit each other exchanging greetings and sweets. The custom of visiting friends and relatives continues for over a week.

During the day, people play by splashing water colors on each other. Children throw water colours by using water cannons or ‘pichkari’ to enjoy the festival. In the evening, people dress up in attractive attire and visit their friends and relatives and hug them by applying ‘gulal’, the dry colors. Because of his fear, people started worshiping him except Prahlad as he was a true devotee of Lord Vishnu. After seeing such type of behaviour of Prahlad, Hiranyakashyap made a plan with sister Holika to kill Prahlad. He ordered his sister to sit in the fire by having Prahlad in her lap. Holika did so, but fortunately she got burnt in the fire and Prahlad was not harmed and even not touched by the fire as he was under the protection and blessings of God.

From then, people started celebrating this event as Holi festival after the name of Holika. This festival is celebrated to remember the victory of goodness over evil power. In the night or evening, a day before Holi, people burn a heap of wood in the nearby areas symbolizing burning of Holika.

Everyone enjoys this festival by singing, dancing, playing colours, hugging each other and eating delicious food. There is also a custom in north India where people massage the body using mustard paste and then burn it in Holika hoping to get rid of all diseases and evils of the body.

The Legend of Holika Dahan

Holi is a two day festival, beginning on the evening of full moon day (Purnima) in the Hindu month of Phalgun. The colour Holi is played on second day morning.

The first day of Holi is called Choti (Small) Holi and a ritual of Holika Dahan is followed in the evening. Bonfires are made at street junctions or other suitable places in market, roads, streets, colonies etc. People burn their old belongings in the fire, symbolic to burning their feelings of envy, hatred and animosity. The ritual also signifies the victory of good over evil.

One of the commonly accepted legends of Holika Dahan is associated with the demon king Hiranyakashyap and his son Prahlada. Prahlada was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu; this infuriated Hiranyakashyap, who thought of himself as the God, in wake of the immortality boon that was granted to him. However, his son Prahlada was adamant in his resolve to worship Vishnu and rejected worshipping his own father, Hiranyakashyap.

Dejected by his own son, Hiranyakashyap got enraged and started subjecting Prahlada to torture, in order to persuade him to relent. When Prahlada refused regularly, Hiranyakashyap conspired with his sister Holika to trick Prahlada on sitting over a burning pyre with her. Holika supposedly had a boon granting her protection from burning in a fire. The evil plan was to burn Prahlada in the pyre, while Holika will be protected by the boon.

Holika finally succeeded in agreeing Prahlada to sit in the pyre with her. Prahlada agreed as he had extreme faith in his deity Vishnu. Holika got seated in the pyre with child Prahlada in her lap. As soon as the pyre was lit, Lord Vishnu intervened to save Prahlada and Holika was burnt to ashes, despite the boon. The boon granted to Holika didn’t worked, because; the immortality was granted to her only if she entered a fire alone.

Thus, people burn pyre on Choti Holi symbolic to the burning of evil Holika and also to welcome the colourful celebrations the next day.

Lath Mar Holi at Barsana

In the compound of Radha Rani temple at Barsana a small town near Mathura, the custom of Lath Mar Holi is being celebrated since centuries. Men from the nearby Nandgaon, visit Barsana where women would hit them with sticks, traditionally called lathis in Hindi. Men on the other hand, would protect themselves with shields and those who got caught are made to dance wearing women attire.

The Lath Mar Holi of Barsana has become so popular that millions of native Indians as well as foreign tourists visit Barsana to witness the celebrations.

In the state of Maharashtra, Puran Poli is prepared during the Holi festival. It is also Maharashtra’s festival favorite and is prepared in almost all the festivals. It is basically a flat dough chapati filled with sweet chana dal.

This Holi ‘Say no to Synthetic Colours’

Holi being a festival of colours, lots of temporary shops could be seen selling rather cheep colours. The colours available in form of powder often constitute toxic metals like copper, mercury, aluminum and lead. They may also contain harmful dyes and paints, not suitable for use by humans.

Use of cheap synthetic colours, results in a number of ailments, ranging from a mild skin rash to as serious as cancer. Cases of skin lesions, burning sensation and eye irritation are reported during the Holi festival, possibly due to the toxic compounds in the colours. Synthetic colours are often prepared with a base of corn starch or flour, whose contamination makes the situation worst.

Fortunately, people are getting more aware about the harmful effects of synthetic colours. A custom of using naturally derived colours is developing and is being practiced widely. By switching to colours derived from natural resources, we not only save our health but the health of environment as well. Natural colours when enter soil or water resources do not pollute them like the synthetic colours do.

Natural colours are derived from natural harmless minerals like gulal, mehndi, turmeric etc. Flowers are also used to produce colours, like red colour is produced from roses; yellow colour is produced from sunflower. Besides, many natural colour dyes can be produced from plants and flowers.

Holi is a festival of colour, celebrated with fun and joy. Get ready to drench in water and colour, but also be careful to not to harm yourself and others.
