Lots of sweets are prepared for little Gopal on this occasion. People decorate temples and houses with flowers. This is a national holiday all over India.

Janmashtami, also known as Krishna Janmashtami, is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna. In the Gregorian calendar, it typically falls somewhere in August and September each year. Although it is mainly a Hindu festival, Janmashtami can easily be celebrated either at a Hindu temple or at home through fasting, singing, decorating, and bathing the idol of Krishna.

Taking Part in Temple Festivities

• Among most Hindus, it’s generally acceptable for the young (7 or younger) or the infirm to not take part in the fast. Many Hindus also allow for the consumption of water, fruits, and milk throughout the fast, while meat, grains, and liquors are strictly forbidden during the Janmashtami fast.

• An example of a chant you could do would be the Hare Krishna mantra.
• Taking part in a kirtan in a group is a very good way of building a sense of community with the people around you and is thus a very important part of Janmashtami celebrations in many temples.

• If you don’t normally attend services at the temple, you might want to call ahead and inform them that you would like to come and take part in Janmashtami festivities. They will be very glad to have you.
• Flower garlands are the most common decorations used during Janmashtami, but hanging festoons of leaves and balloons are also popular ways of decorating Hindu temples. Any colorful variety of flower will do.

• The texts most commonly read from or acted out during Janmashtami celebrations include the Bhagavad Gita and the Bhagavata Purana.

• The deity is bathed in a variety of auspicious liquids, including fragrant water, milk, or honey.
• This ablution ceremony is called the abhisheka.
• Although there’s no specific material you should use to clothe the Krishna idol, the clothes themselves should be colorful.

• The unveiling takes place at midnight because this is the time that devotees believe the god Krishna was born.

• If completely abstaining from food is too difficult, you can also eat light foods throughout the day to tide you over until midnight.

• Examples of snacks to eat at midnight might include Sabudana Tikki, Roasted Makhana, Aloo Chaat, and Fruit Chaat.
• Any of these foods can also be used as your offering. There is no set guideline for how much food to include in your offering, but a helpful rule of thumb would be to have each person offer 1 dish.

• Place potted plants and bouquets of colorful flowers around your home and near the idol of Krishna. Decorative light garlands can also be strung up around windows and door frames, while colorful balloons are inflated and left to float in ceiling corners.
• Flower garlands, balloons, and festoons of leaves are all popular decorations used in Hindu temples during Janmashtami and are also suitable for decorating your home for Krishna.

• The songs that are sung typically come from the Vaishnava songbook, although you can simply watch others sing if you don’t know the words or don’t feel like singing.

• Yellow is the most widely used color for the dhoti, although any festive color (e.g., bright blue, red, etc.) will also work.
• Some accessories you can use to add to your child’s outfit include a peacock feather for the crown, a waistband, an arm band, and some lightweight jewelry.

• These festivities often include markets selling sweet treats and decorations, as well as people performing the types of reenactments you might expect to see in a temple.
• Janmashtami festivals are also excellent occasions for dressing your children as Krishna and letting others compliment them on their outfits!

After his birth his father Vasudeva secretly carried him across the Yamuna River to Nand and Yashoda who gave birth to a girl child and swap the kids. Krishna started growing in Vrindavan and was raised by Nand and Yashoda, here the evil demon king Kansa came to know about Krishna and made multiple attempt to kill him for the very first time he sent the demon Putana but Lord Krishna with his Leela killed the evil after this even King Kansa did not stop but was defeated every single time by Lord Krishna. One of the well known Leela of Shree Krishna is when he lifted the Govardhan Mountain by his little finger to save the civilians from the heavy rain due to the wrath of Indradev.

#Little Krishna once suggested that Govardhan mountain serves them a lot provides them protection and other necessities and thus needs to be worshiped on this note Indradev the God of thunder, storm and rain got offended and his wrath fell on Vrindavan as a result there was extreme climatic condition in such a condition Lord Krishna lifted the mountain on his little finger and the entire Vrindavan took shelter under the mountain and thus Govardhan mountain protected them once again, Indradev soon understood his mistake and was sorry to Lord Krishna and this is how the interesting Govardhan episode comes to an end.

Krishna Makhanchor

Lord Krishna’s love for butter was ultimate, he was very well known for stealing butter and was often referred as Makhanchor. Lord Krishna here started a divine Leela , he soon subdued the dangerous creature and climbed onto his head and danced, he did not kill or snatch his venom rather instructed Kaliya to reside in a place where his venom would not harm anyone and thus seeking Lord Krishna’s blessing Kaliya naag went away from the Yamuna river.

Janmashtami is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Krishna, one of the most powerful and famous reincarnations of Lord Vishnu. According to the Hindu calendar, this festival is celebrated on the Ashtami of Krishna Paksh or the 8th day of the dark fortnight in the month of Bhadon. This day indicated the beginning of hope in the older times; hope, that the malicious rule of Kansa would soon end. 

To seek the blessings of Lord Krishna, Janmashtami was celebrated at The Millennium School on 18th August, 2018 with mirth and joy. The fragrance of flowers, soothing aroma of camphor and the jingle of bells filled the air. While this religious importance is not lost, this day signifies a lot more to modern India, it signifies excitement, euphoria and a joyous spirit of enthrallment. To celebrate the extraordinary bond between children and the Almighty, The Millennium School took the opportunity to both jubilate and learn with the young minds. The students  dressed up as lord Krishna and Radha, complete with flutes, peacock feathers and matkas. The premise was decorated beautifully and the spirit of festivity was enhanced with Jhankis depicting life history of Lord Krishna. The celebration that followed was truly entertaining and educating.

A lot of fun-filled activities like painting, nail art, tambola, tattoo-making, selfie corner, magic pot etc. The purpose of the flamboyant celebration was to inculcate value of sharing and respect in the students.

The life history of Lord Krishna was very beautifully depicted by colourful Jhankis. The parents had a great time participating in fun games..... The main attraction of the event was breaking of  the treasure filled Matki.....

The Principal of the school, Dr Manjula Goswami blessed all the students on this auspicious day and gave them the message as always, looking ahead instead of reminiscing in the past. Her words truly summed up the efficacy of celebrating festivals of devotion and obedience towards their parents and teachers.
