Introduction

In the tapestry of my life, my father is the thread that weaves together values of dedication, humility, and compassion. He is not just a parent but my hero, an extraordinary figure whose influence has shaped the person I am today. His life story is a testament to the power of hard work, kindness, and selflessness.

My father’s journey began with a remarkable sense of obedience and determination, qualities instilled in him from a young age. His parents, my grandparents, often regale us with tales of his unswerving commitment to his studies and the goals he set for himself. Whether it was acing his exams or excelling in sports, he constantly worked toward his objectives. This determination left an indelible mark on his character and inspired not only his siblings but also his peers.

Yet, his brilliance in academics and sports was only part of the story. What truly set my father apart was his compassionate nature. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to fellow students, making him a beloved figure in his school. This sense of responsibility extended to his family, where he actively participated in household chores, helping my grandmother without hesitation. These actions instilled in him a profound understanding of the importance of contributing to family well-being.

However, what sets my father apart is his belief in leading a simple life. Despite the means to afford a luxurious lifestyle, he chooses to live in a modest flat. His values of contentment and minimalism are lessons he imparts to us daily. He teaches us that happiness is not found in material possessions but in the simplicity of life and the richness of experiences. These values have shaped our worldview and instilled in us a profound appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

One of the most awe-inspiring facets of my father’s character is his commitment to giving back to society. He dedicates a significant portion of his earnings to social work. Essay on My Father My Hero- Long Essay 1000 Words

As a child, I was always told that my father was my hero. He was an inspiration to me, something that I looked up to and aspired to be like. He did everything he could to provide for his family while working and he never once complained. In this essay, I want to share my experiences with you and tell you all about the man who has been such an important part of my life.

My Father: A True Hero

I would be lying if I say that my father wasn’t always there for me. Growing up, he was the one who always made time for me. He was a true hero, always putting others first. Even when things were tough, he would never let his emotions get the best of him. My father was someone I could always count on and I owe him everything.

My Father’s Influence on My Life

My Father has always been a huge influence in my life. He is the one who taught me how to work hard and make things happen. He is also the one who showed me what it means to be a family man. My Father was always there for me when I needed him, and he has never failed to show me his support. He has also been a great role model for my career path. My Father always believed in me, and he has helped me to achieve my goals both professionally and personally. He is someone who I can always count on, no matter what situation we are in. I would not be where I am today without my Father’s guidance and support.

The Relationship I Had With My Father

Growing up, I had a very close relationship with my father. He was my role model and often acted as the example for how a man should behave. He never hesitated to give me a hug or tell me that he loved me. My father always pushed me to be the best that I could be, and he was always willing to help out whenever I needed it. Though we don’t see each other as much as we would like, I know that the relationship we have is still very strong.

Lessons I Learned From My Father

Growing up, I idolized my father. He was a hard worker and an all around great guy. I loved everything about him, from the way he could fix anything to the stories he would tell me at bedtime. I learned a lot from my dad, some of which I might not have realized at the time. Here are five things that I believe I learned from him: 1.Hard work pays off – My dad is one of the hardest working people I know. Whether it’s fixing cars or building houses, he always finds a way to get the job done. This lesson has definitely stuck with me throughout my life, and it’s helped me achieve some goals that were initially difficult. 2.It’s important to stay positive – One of the biggest lessons my dad taught me was to keep a positive attitude no matter what happened. Even when things were tough, he never gave up on himself or on us. This has really helped me in life – especially during times of trial. 3.Family is important – Another lesson my dad taught me was how important family is. He always put us first and showed us how much he loved us. Even though we weren’t always close growing up, his love for us remains strong to this day. 4.Values are important – One of the most important values my dad instilled in me was honesty and integrity . He never let anyone push him around 5.Judge before Helping anyone- My father always said that everyone doesn’t deserve help and helping the non deserving ones always brings hard luck. So be judgmental before helping anyone.

My Heroism Towards Others

When I was younger, my father always struck me as being a hero. He was always there for me, no matter what. Even when I was a brat, he would always put up with me. And even though he wasn’t there physically, he still managed to be a hero to me in spirit. He always made an effort to be there for me and show his love, even though he wasn’t around physically. I think that it is really important for fathers to be there for their children. Too often, fathers are absent or uninvolved in their children’s lives. But my dad was different. He was there for me whenever I needed him, no matter how bad I behaved. And because of that, I owe him everything. He has been the model father that I have wanted to become and the one that I aspire to be like. Fathers play an incredibly important role in our lives and without them, we would not be who we are today. They are the ones who give us hope and teach us about values and morals. Without them, life would not be worth living

Whatever I have written is not an exaggeration — he is really my hero. He has always been there for me, whether it was lending a listening ear when I needed to talk or offering a helping hand when I needed it most. He has never given up on me and continues to be an incredibly positive force in my life. Even now, as I approach adulthood and start to take on more responsibilities, my dad remains the rock that helps me stay grounded and focused. Without him, I don’t think I would be where I am today. Thank you, Dad – you are the best dad a girl could ask for!

My Father Believes in Keeping Life Simple

My father believes in leading a simple life. Though he earns well and can afford a luxury car and a big bungalow. However, he still continues to live in a small flat. His needs are minimal and he has taught us the same values. He believes in spending a good amount of his salary to social work. He is a part of a non-profit organization that is dedicated towards providing food and education to the underprivileged children. Every Saturday he visits these children and distributes fruits and other eatables among them.

He also gives free mathematics classes to these students in the charity school run by the organization. Many a times, he also takes us along. He has taught us how to share and care. I and my sister have inculcated this value from him. We also do our bit to light up a smile on the faces of these children. This is true joy for us. No amount of toys, holiday trips and visits to restaurants can render such a joyful feeling.

Just like my father, I also love keeping it simple. I have understood that “needs can be met but greed cannot”. I am not keen on buying new bags, clothes and accessories every now and then. I only buy things when I truly need them. I love accompanying my father to the places he visits for his charity work and wish to join one such non-profit organization as I grow old.

My Father Renders the Best Advice

Whenever I need an advice I know whom to turn to. It is my father. Children are more attached to their mothers and mostly share all their secrets with them. However, in my case it is different. I share all my secrets with my father and go running to him whenever I am confused about anything in life. He has a clear perspective about life and knows exactly how to calm my chaotic thoughts. Whether I have a fight with my friends or am unable to concentrate on studies or am unable to choose which co-curricular activity to go for – I know whom to ask. He knows me extremely well and is also worldly wise and thus gives advice keeping both his experiences and my nature in mind.

He is like the backbone of our family. From fulfilling our financial needs to taking care of the emotional upheavals – he is always there standing strong besides us. I have learned a lot from this attitude of his. He has taught us how we must all take our responsibilities seriously and fulfil them happily. Taking inspiration from him, me and my brother also complete every little task and responsibility assigned to us sincerely. If every member of the family takes his responsibilities seriously then everything will remain well-coordinated. There would be less stress and relationships would be sweeter.

My father is indeed my hero. He has given us good values and brought out the best in us. He is not just my father. He is my best friend and my hero.

Dedication towards Improving the Environment

My father is a true nature lover. He loves plants and this is the reason why we have turned our terrace into a garden. Earlier, we only had some pots kept at some distance from each other on the terrace but now we have plants all over the place. However, his love for nature is not just limited to gardening at home he is also involved in improving the environment by planting more and more trees and plants in the surrounding areas. He has joined a non-profit organization that works for making the environment clean and green.

He helps the organization to further their mission by joining them every weekend. He and his team choose an area every week and do their best to clear the dried leaves and other waste products from there. They hire a sweeper to help them and do whatever they can on their own. After the cleaning drive, they plant trees and plants at suitable places in that area. Many a times he takes us along for help.

He was also invited to my school to sensitize the students to make the environment clean and green. He gave lecture on the subject to help the students understand the importance of this issue. It was a proud moment for me.

My father believes in working as a team. He does not expect my mother to do all the household tasks and handle the kids all on her own. He helps and supports her at every step. They both work as a team to make our house a better place to live. My father also works with us whenever we require working on some assignment we are not much familiar with. Rather than just giving us instructions and judging our skills from a distance he gets involved in the same to help us learn and understand the task better.

Many of my friends share that their parents give them instructions to do certain tasks and expect them to complete them appropriately. They do not help in the process and even scold them if the task is not done properly. They also have set definition of the tasks that need to be done only by the females in the house and those that the male members should take responsibility for. I am lucky my father does not possess such a mindset. We have learned the art of working as a team from him and this has helped us at various stages in life.

My father’s dedication towards making earth a better place by contributing his bit towards improving the environment as well as his concept of working as a team are certainly two of his best qualities. I have learned a lot from these.

My Father My Hero Essay 600 words

My father is not just my hero but an inspiration for everyone around. Besides being a great father, a good husband and an obedient son, he is a very noble human being. He treats everyone alike and does not distinguish between anyone based on their caste, religion or social status. Everyone in our family, extended family and neighbourhood talks highly about him because of his extremely friendly and helpful nature. People come to him to seek advice as well as for help as they know he has the solution for every problem.

Always Ready to Help Others

Just like the heroes in the Bollywood movies my father is always ready to help everyone around. I still remember the incident when one of my father’s colleagues fell seriously ill my father supported his family wholeheartedly. His colleague’s family was not financially well off. He was the only earning member in the family. His parents and wife were not only financially dependent on him but also did not know how to deal with the hospital formalities and other stuff. My father helped them during their hour of need. He used to spend hours in the hospital helping his colleague’s family with the hospital formalities.

He also arranged money for his colleague’s treatment. He contributed whatever he could and requested his other office colleague’s to contribute for the cause. He served as an inspiration for others. Many of his colleagues came forward to contribute their bit for the treatment. Soon, the funds were met and the treatment was completed. I remember the day when that colleague and his family visited our family after his recovery and thanked my father with all their heart. This incident has left a mark on my heart. I feel proud of my father whenever I think of it.

My father has taught me how we must be ready to help those around us and how a little help from us can make a difference in other people’s life.

Striking Work Life Balance

Another quality of my father that I truly admire is that he is very hard working. He is appreciated for his hard work and dedication at work. He won several awards during his school and college days and this inspires me to work hard and earn appreciation too. Even in his office he has won the employee of the year award, most hardworking team member award and many other accreditation. I have seen him working for hours whenever his work demands. At times, he even works on holidays. However, this does not mean that he ignores his family and gives priority to his work. He knows how to maintain work life balance and we love this thing about him.

Many of my friends share that their fathers are extremely engrossed in their office tasks. They come home late from work and also have to go out with colleagues on the weekends. But I am lucky that my father values his personal relationships as much as his work. He does not take his family for granted. He makes sure he comes home on time and spends time with us. He also takes us out regularly. Besides, he helps my mother with small household tasks to share her load.

My father is very clear about the fact that family comes first. So, even though he is always ready to help others and is extremely dedicated towards his office work he does not ignore us in the event. He in fact, involves us in many of his tasks instead of leaving us behind waiting for him. This helps in two ways. We stay close to him and also learn from his good deeds.

My father, my hero.

My dad is my hero. He is like a superhero but without a cape. Every morning, he goes to work to take care of our family. He is strong and kind, always ready to help me with my homework or play a game with me.

Teaching Me Right

He teaches me to be good and honest. When I make mistakes, he shows me how to fix them. He tells me stories of brave people and encourages me to be brave too.

Support and Love

My dad supports me in everything I do. He cheers the loudest at my games and is there for me when I am sad. His hugs make me feel safe.

My dad is my hero because he loves me and always tries to make me happy. He is the best dad anyone could ask for.

250 Words Essay on Father My Hero

When I think of a hero, I picture my father. He’s not just a parent; he’s the strongest, kindest person I know. A hero is someone who helps and protects others, and that’s what my dad does every day.

Strength in Tough Times

Life can be hard. But no matter what, my dad stands like a tall tree, even in the strongest winds. When I’m scared or worried, he shows me how to be brave. He finds ways to fix problems, and he never gives up. This makes me feel safe and shows me how to face my own challenges.

Teaching by Example

My dad teaches me right from wrong, not just by talking, but by doing. He treats everyone with respect and kindness. When he promises something, he always does it. Watching him, I learn how to act with others and how to be a good person.

Fun and Laughter

A hero also brings joy, and my dad is great at that. He makes the funniest jokes and has the best ideas for games. Even when he’s tired from work, he finds time to play with me. This shows me that happiness is important in life.

Love and Support

Most of all, my dad loves me. He listens when I talk and helps me with my homework. He cheers for me at my games and tells me he’s proud of me. This love gives me the power to believe in myself.

In every way, my father is my hero. He guides me, protects me, teaches me, and loves me. I’m lucky to have him, and I hope to be as great as him one day.

500 Words Essay on Father My Hero

When I think of the word “hero,” I picture my father. A hero is someone who is strong, kind, and always there to help when you need them. That is exactly what my father is to me. He’s not just a parent; he’s my role model, my protector, and my biggest supporter.

Strength in Kindness

Some might think a hero has to be someone with super strength or the ability to fly. But my father’s strength doesn’t come from muscles; it comes from his heart. He shows me that being kind is one of the strongest things you can do. He helps people, listens when they’re sad, and always finds ways to make others smile. His kindness teaches me to be a better person every day.

Wisdom and Guidance

My father is like a wise old tree. He has seen a lot in his life and uses his experiences to guide me. When I have a tough choice to make, he doesn’t just tell me what to do. Instead, he talks with me about it and helps me see different sides of the story. His advice is like a map that helps me navigate through the tricky parts of growing up.

Heroes don’t always have to be serious, and my dad knows how to have fun. He’s the king of dad jokes and can make me laugh even when I’m feeling down. We play games, go on adventures, and enjoy simple things like bike rides or ice cream. These happy moments with him are treasures I keep in my heart.

Support in Every Step

Whether I’m doing well or facing a challenge, my father is there cheering me on. He’s at my soccer games, clapping the loudest. He’s at my school plays, smiling with pride. And when things don’t go as planned, he’s there with a hug and words that make me feel like I can try again. His support gives me the power to believe in myself.

My father doesn’t just tell me how to live a good life; he shows me. He works hard, cares for our family, and treats everyone with respect. By watching him, I learn how to be responsible, how to stand up for what is right, and how to care for the people I love. He’s my live-action hero, showing me the way every day.

My Hero, My Dad

In stories, heroes often wear capes and save the world. My father may not wear a cape, but he’s my hero in every way that counts. He saves my world every day with his love, his laughter, and his guidance. I am lucky to have a hero like him in my life, and I hope to be as much of a hero to someone else as he is to me.

In conclusion, my father is my hero not because he has superpowers, but because he is super in every way that matters. He is strong, kind, wise, fun, supportive, and a great teacher. I admire him more than anyone else, and I am proud to be his child. Fathers like mine don’t just make a difference in our homes; they make the world a better place just by being who they are.

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

When you say, “why my dad is my hero,” you are trying to sum up the love, admiration, and respect you have for your fathers. Your dad is your mentor, guide, caregiver, protector, one who has been with you through all thicks and thins. He was a friend, a guide, a philosopher who taught you some of the best lessons of your life.

A father is a magnanimous figure of inspiration, who we all idolize. He is the one who always wants to see you happy no matter what he goes through. Therefore, every dad is a superhero, and he deserves to know how much you adore and value him. Read this post to know some of the most important reasons why we say, “why my dad is my hero.”

15 Reasons Why “My Dad Is My Hero”

  • He works hard to provide the best : Being the family leader, a father works hard for several hours to provide the child with the best, from a comfortable lifestyle to the finest education. No matter what difficulties they encounter, fathers strive to create a bright future for their children.
  • He teaches the importance of hard work : When children show off their new shoes to their friends, little do they realize their fathers’ effort to pay for them. A father wakes up on time every day to be able to reach work without fail. It requires a lot of discipline to be able to work and make a comfortable living. Nothing comes easy in life, and a father is the first to teach this to his children .

Linda Bartlett dwells on the importance of her father in her life and describes how he taught her the value of hard work. She says, “At 93, he continues to be my hero because, as my father, he is still teaching me what it means to be human. In other words, he is teaching me what it means to be a person created in God’s image.

“As a farmer, my dad has shown me the ‘thorns and thistles’ that sin brought into this world. I’ve seen the sweat on his brow, but also heard his sigh of accomplishment at the end of a long, hard day. My dad has shown me that work is neither a punishment nor unpleasant. When done to the glory of God, it is a source of contentment (i) .”

  • He acts strictly for a reason : Fathers as the head of the household, act tough and discipline their little ones to prepare them for the future. Discipline is a way of educating children that certain behaviors are not only unsafe but also unacceptable. Fathers scold or punish their kids to teach them about the consequences of their choices and actions . He may shout and rebuke if the child fails to understand, but he does that to make them tough and smart in life.
  • He goes tough on kids to make them stronger : Fathers are straightforward and say what they have to the child without hesitation. He hopes that his children are strong enough to cope with any situation and all kinds of people they meet. He may criticize or scold their children for things that may seem wrong, but he would also praise them when they do good deeds. The aim is to make them strong enough to face life.
  • He wants his children to learn bravery: Dad brings a sense of security to his kids and gives them the feeling that no one can hurt them when he is around . When little kids sit on a swing for the first time, they feel scared of falling. But seeing their father behind them, they know they will be safe because he is always there to protect them.
  • He can also pamper the children: When mothers become tough and forbid their children from doing something, children tend to turn to their fathers for support, which they undoubtedly get from the doting pop. Dads sneak in behind moms’ back and hand them the last cookie. If he is caught, he will take full responsibility and face the mama’s wrath.
  • He will transform into a cartoon to make his children laugh: A father cannot see his children sad and crying. He will do his best to ease their emotions and make them smile. He won’t mind playing a monkey to make his child laugh uncontrollably.
  • He shows the meaning of endurance: No one can hide pain better than a father who tries to keep his children strong. Fathers try to prove to the children that they are strong and can stand up under any circumstances. Even when fathers are in pain, they smile so that the family does not worry about them. A father hides his pain and puts a brave front for the sake of his kids, who think of him as a hero .
  • He never gives up on his children’s dreams: Constant challenges in life may bog anyone down, and children may lose the confidence to move on. But a dad will never give up on his children and their dreams. He will push them to aim higher and support them to work harder. He will pick them up each time they fall and will always be their support system.
  • He is always willing to help make a choice : Whether attending a party or choosing a dress for attending a graduation ceremony, whenever children are confused about big or small things, they can always rely on their father to help make choices. A father may or may not give the best of opinion, but he will support his children in their decisions.
  • He solves problems for his children: A child may have some trouble with studies or other activities . If their father learns about it, he will directly or indirectly try to help his child solve the problem. If the child is not good at math, the father will brush up on his math and try his best to help. If the child is having trouble understanding a new language, the father will learn the language himself, then simplify the language for the child, or hire private tutoring.
  • He gets his children out of trouble: When children are young, they want to explore many things. Sometimes harmless and sometimes harmful. They get the courage to do it because their papa will get them out of any trouble. Their father will surely get mad at their behavior but will undoubtedly rescue them even from the deepest of problems.
  • He can be a fun company to keep : If daddy senses that his child needs a friend to play with, he will instantly turn into their partner and even have his nails painted for his child’s sake. He will sit with his child for a football game and give some fun commentary to entertain his kids.
  • He protects his children from making mistakes : A father is like a huge supportive rock who protects his family and does not want his kids to make the same mistakes. He would let the children sit down, listen to him and even punish them for not obeying him. No matter what he does, he is there to support and eliminate the hurt and disappointment from the child’s life.
  • He loves them unconditionally : Kids may be inconsiderate of their father’s feelings of selflessness and may even hurt him on several occasions, intentionally or unintentionally. But a father will never hold it against his kids. No matter how many times they are rude or disobedient , he will always love them.

My Dad Is My Hero Essay

My dad is my hero. He’s always been there for me, no matter what. He’s a great father and an even better friend. I can’t imagine my life without him.

When I consider what my hero means to me, I realize that the majority of my favorite memories and sentiments toward him are derived from his small acts on a daily basis. My hero is not a celebrity or someone who is well-known. He has never rescued me from a burning castle or an avalanche, but he does hug me and tell me good day. He doesn’t buy me expensive or gaudy accessories, but he will whisper to me that I am his one-and-only special girl. He’s just a modest guy who lives an ordinary life and which I honor and admire.

My dad is my hero because he has always been there for me. He has never missed a single one of my soccer games, even though I know he would rather be doing just about anything else. When I had chickenpox, he stayed up all night with me to make sure I was comfortable. He has always been interested in everything I do and takes the time to listen to me, even when I know he’s tired. My dad is always willing to help me with anything I need, whether it’s homework or just advice on life.

I can talk to my dad about anything and I know he will give me an honest answer. He has never judged me or made me feel like I am less than because I am not perfect. My dad loves me unconditionally and that is something I cherish. I know that no matter what happens in life, my dad will always be there for me and that is why he is my hero.

My hero is a hard worker. He comes home around 5 p.m. and finishes any paperwork he need to finish for the day, whether it’s anything big or little. At work, he puts his intellect to use on various water-purification topics, but at home, he uses his knowledge of these subjects to help me with my homework or repair household appliances. My hero is also extremely encouraging.

He is always cheering me on at my sporting events and being encouraging. My dad is always willing to give me a helping hand when I need it. He has helped me out many times, whether it was with schoolwork or with personal issues. My dad is also very loving. He expresses his love for me in many different ways. He is always telling me how proud he is of me and how much he loves me. I know that I can always count on my dad to be there for me no matter what. That’s why my dad is my hero.

My hero is always there for me. He has been a wonderful source of encouragement and assistance in my life when I was going through difficulties, especially during my academics when it looked as if everything was going wrong. Finally, he’s really caring. He’ll help you with any issues you’re having, and he’ll always try to find time to spend with you, even if he doesn’t think he can manage it.

This is why my dad is my hero. He’s always there for me when I need him, and he’s always been a great role model.

He has always been supportive, whether it be financially, academically, or emotionally. My dad has also been very instrumental in helping me choose the right path in life. When I was younger, he would sit down with me and talk to me about my interests and what I wanted to do with my life.

He helped me make the decision to pursue a career in information technology, and he has continued to support me throughout my education. My dad is also a great role model. He has always been an honest and hardworking person, and he has instilled those values in me. I aspire to be like him in many ways, and I am grateful to have him as my dad.

My hero is always one hundred and ten percent committed to being a great person. He is there for me whether it’s to encourage me at my sports games or to holler loudly at any workouts or practices I may have.

The purpose is that he would never miss these activities for all the money in the world because he wants to support my endeavors in everything I do. I understand that his presence indicates how much he cares about me and how pleased he is when I try my hardest. When I know he’s rooting for me, I give it my all.

My dad is my best friend and I can always count on him to be there for me, no matter what. I know that he loves me unconditionally and that I am very lucky to have him as my father. He has always been there for me, even when times are tough. I am truly blessed to have him in my life.

There are many special events I have with my hero. We both love playing and watching sports, particularly baseball and hockey. He and I frequently play catch or practice hitting in the backyard alone. When we chat during these beautiful times, we usually discuss what’s going on in our lives and make jokes at each other’s expense. When we talk, it looks like we’re in a different universe.

My dad is the only person that I can talk to about anything and he always makes me feel better after we talk.

These are just a few of many reasons why my dad is my hero. He has always been there for me, whether I needed help with homework or just a shoulder to cry on. He has never given up on me, even when I have made mistakes. I know that I can always count on him and that he will always be there for me. That is why my dad is my hero.

My Father is my Hero

How it works

It was a cold December night. The night before Christmas to be precise. Most children, or should I say, teenagers of my age would be in bed, warm and cozy right now – dreaming of the gifts they would receive in the morning. If they couldn’t sleep, they would be listening to music or watching old Christmas movies. For me though, things were very different.

I was standing in a small airport near London; it was eleven thirty at night and I was saying goodbye to my father for what could be the last time.

Why? Because my dad was about to go on a tour to Afghanistan for six months. Christmas Eve seemed a particularly cruel time to send soldiers abroad. My mom was in floods of tears; they streamed down her face. I wanted to join her and cry – pour my heart out with her. But I knew I couldn’t. I had to remain strong. Show her everything was going to be okay, that there was nothing to worry about. Not just for her but for my dad too. I just couldn’t make it any harder for him to go than it already was. It would be selfish. I gave him a final hug and said goodbye. He turned to my mom and whispered something in her ear; then he kissed her on her forehead, told her he loved her and would always, no matter what happens. He boarded the plane. Mom and I waved until he was out of sight and then walked to the car. We got in without speaking. Mom turned on the engine and started to drive. I watched the windscreen wipers rotate back and forth, lost in my thoughts until I drifted into sleep.

I woke up the next morning to find myself covered in a blanket and lying on the couch. I caught a glimpse of our tree which we’d decorated it a couple of weeks before with Dad, and remembered it was Christmas. Christmas, a time which is usually happy and joyful; a time for celebrating and spending time with family. For me, it had turned to despair and sadness. I no longer wanted presents. I just wanted one thing back – my dad. Mom was trying her best to be cheerful, she’d even put some Christmas tunes on the stereo, but I knew it was an act.

Later on, after we’d been through the ritual of presents and Christmas lunch, the phone rang. It was an ‘out of area’ number. Confused, I picked up the phone. “Hello?”

“Hello. This is Warrant Officer Graham…” before his sentence was complete I yelled, “It’s dad!” Mom dropped the tea towel she’d been holding and came running. I’d never been so happy to hear my father’s voice. It was better than any Christmas present. He’d phoned just to tell us he was safe. He said he would be able to call once a week. He wasn’t sure what day or time, but he reassured us that he’d also send letters as often as possible.

During the week that followed, I sat down and wrote my first letter to Dad. I knew the more I wrote, the more he would have to respond to and I was looking forward to hearing back from him. It was important to reassure him with news from home and I was careful to focus on the positive. I posted it immediately and eagerly awaited a reply.

About a week later, I received a letter from Dad. He explained what he was doing, what it was like to be on the front line. He said how he missed us and couldn’t wait for my next letter. My dad loved my artwork but resisted whenever it came to military pictures – aircraft, weapons, bombs. I would dedicate all my time to working on drawings and paintings to send to him for his area in Afghanistan. He always got compliments about my drawings and I wanted him to be proud when he thought about me. True to his word, he called once every week.

Suddenly though, as spring arrived, the letters and calls stopped. The frosts and cold weather was thawing but I felt frozen inside. It’d been ten days and nothing. My heart was constantly in the pit of my stomach. I kept telling myself not to worry; he’s very busy…probably. Really, though, I feared the worst.

I was back at school now, working hard for my exams. My final art project was a collection of pastel pieces based on military objects – I’d had a lot of practice. The trouble was this made me think about Dad even more. Although I tried to keep them to myself, my fears grew.

After a long day at school, I came home to find Mom grey-faced with tear tracks and black smudge marks obvious on her face. She had been crying. My heart pounded uncontrollably out of my chest. I prepared myself quickly, ready for the worst. She sat me down at the table and, holding back her tears, looked me in the eye. “Your father’s… your father’s been killed in action.” Her voice wobbled and the tears came again. I felt physically sick.

“No. No, he can’t be… He just can’t be!” I shouted.

“He was shot, love. Killed in action. They told me he risked his life. No… he gave his life to save all his men.” Mom said.

“He’s a hero, my father. A hero.” I whispered to her. We sat in silence.

“Do you remember when we took him to the airport?” I asked.

“He whispered something in your ear, didn’t he? What did he say?”

She knew immediately what I was talking about. “He said that if anything happened to him, he wanted me to tell you that he loves you. No matter how old you are or how old you become, you mean the world to him. He wanted me to tell you that if died, he would be watching over you every day. Like a guardian angel.” A tear of joy and sadness rolled down my face. I started to cry. Not because I was weak, but because I’d been strong too long. Not only is my father a hero, but he is my hero. My father. My hero.

The importance of the word ‘Father’ and its general worth towards family is limitless. This word generates honor because of symbol good deeds which every head of the family tries to earn.

My Father is My Hero Essay in English

My father is the pillar of strength and leadership in our family. My father is my hero as he predicts the need of the time and raises his family by bearing all the responsibilities and discharging all the duties for giving a required shape. I respect him for his great deeds.

Daily Test - Attempt Now

One of the reasons my father is my hero is his unwavering support and involvement in all aspects of my life. He always stands by my side, ensuring that I make the right choices and encouraging my growth. With a deep understanding of my aspirations and the ever-changing world, he offers valuable guidance and imparts wisdom through his thoughtful lectures. His concern for my future career is evident, and he goes above and beyond to nurture my skills and help me achieve my goals.

Despite facing financial constraints, my father goes to great lengths to fulfill my genuine needs and ensures that I never feel inadequate. He works tirelessly, often sacrificing his own comfort, to augment his earnings for my sake. He may eat a little less, but he never hesitates to provide for me.

My father possesses the education and a logical mindset. Over time, he has adapted to the modern world and become a trendy dad. He utilizes his knowledge and contemporary perspectives to raise me in a manner that prepares me for the competitive life of today. He leaves no stone unturned to meet my necessities and strives to eliminate any gaps that may hinder my development and career-building process.

What sets my father apart as an ideal father is his openness toward my career choices. Unlike some parents who impose their own preferences, my father respects my individuality and encourages me to pursue a future that aligns with my own passions, aptitude, and capabilities. The traditional notion of children following their parents’ professions has faded away. Doctors do not insist their children become doctors, professors do not compel their offspring to join academia, and army officers do not pressure their sons to join the military. Similarly, my father desires that I have a brighter future based on my own choices.

My father is a mature and understanding individual who assists me in making important decisions. Like any loving father, he plays a vital role in my life, helping me shape my career and navigate everyday challenges. Whenever I seek guidance or support, I know I can rely on my father. He selflessly puts aside his own priorities and devotes himself to addressing my needs. His tireless efforts and countless sacrifices to resolve my problems are a testament to his love and care.

Every year, we celebrate Father’s Day on 19th June, an occasion to strengthen the bond with our fathers and express gratitude for their sacrifices. However, it has become a mere formality for many, lacking genuine emotional connection and appreciation. In today’s times, children often choose to live separately from their fathers, prioritizing their own families and forgetting their responsibilities towards their aging fathers, who hold onto hope for support.

It is very important that we should give deep respect and pay the highest regard to our fathers not just because they are fathers, but for their unmatched fatherhood and incredible sacrifices towards us. We must recognize the value of their presence and the impact they have on our lives. By cherishing our fathers, upholding our duties, and expressing gratitude for their sacrifices, we can truly acknowledge the heroism they embody in their roles as fathers.

For instance, your topic is ‘My father, my hero!’ Here is how you should begin writing your essay.

My father is a gem of a person. He knows how to take care of his family in times of distress. Apart from this, he is a great teacher, impacting the lives of millions of people. His noble ways of teaching and sharing knowledge make him a superhero not only for me but for all those people whose lives he touched.

My father had a small family. He was the only son of his parents. His parents loved him but were very strict. His childhood days were carefree, but he was a responsible kid, aware of his duty towards his parents. He would never disobey them. His love was unconditional for his parents, and he would go out of his way to serve them. Since he did not have his siblings to support him, he led quite a lonely life. He was a self-made man who struggled in his early years to make a name of himself. His teachers loved him for his honesty and intelligence.

As he grew up to be a man, he was loyal to his job and family. He left no stone unturned in serving his aging parents. He got married and had kids. His love continued to grow for his family. For the sake of our happiness, he would sacrifice his little acts of happiness. He would feel happy when we were happy. The students he taught learned acts of graciousness and nobility from him. They would yearn to be like him, striving in little ways to become a personality he would cherish. Simple acts of kindness made him a superhero. He became a hero in my eyes and in the lives of all those people he affected in one way or the other.

From the milkman to the newspaperman, every person would greet him with great respect. The respect he earned showed how loved and revered he was. His altruism, chivalry, and bravery were exhibited in daily activities. He was a man of integrity, values, and principles. All these things and a lot more made him different from other superheroes. He was neither a celebrity nor an action hero, but he was a great man of spirit who lived in people's hearts.

I finally understand my mother's tough love

"you and your mother are just alike," my father would tell me, by randall horton.

I remember, as if it were yesterday, sitting in an Alabama church as the Baptist preacher eulogized my grandmother. I waited patiently for tears to stream down my cheeks. They did not.

Only days before, I’d received notification my grandmother had died from one of the four roommates I shared a house with on Harvard Street in Washington, D.C. It was 1982 and I was a student at Howard University . I’d gone to the fall Homecoming concert featuring musical groups Time and Vanity 6 at Crampton Auditorium on campus. This was before cellphones, texting and other instant communication, so my mother had to call the police station in D.C., give them my address, and ask them to send a patrol car to our house where the message was relayed to me before I was about to go inside the auditorium.

I remembered being in that church — numb, unsure of how to act or respond to death. I’d been close to Grandmother. I loved her dearly; yet, I did not cry.

I wanted to display a sense of love and affection, that tenderness death exposes. I wanted Grandmother to know the crater she left inside my heart was gargantuan, unfillable. However, it is difficult to escape the lessons of supposed manhood from neighborhood cats that specialized in the art of misogynistic behavior, believed in preying on the weak, and being a real N___ was the only thing in life to aspire to. What I mean is from an early age both inside and outside the home, I was taught real men don’t cry. They bet not.

The majority of this I had learned by the tender age of eight, from pouring shots of white and red liquor in my grandmother’s shot house.

During this transformation from college student to drug seller, my mother and I had a difficult time being in the same room without arguing about my life choices.

My grandmother’s shot house was frequented by men hardened by the weatherworn elements of time, those tiny particles of memory that refuse erasure. They held it all in. There was no crying. The emotive was damn near mythological and prohibited by the innate laws that governed these men. I watched them. I learned from them. I wanted to be them.

It was an environment my mother was accustomed to as well, having come of age in that old veridian clapboard house, an experience she never wanted to talk about, especially what it was like for a young woman to be present in a place that sexualized women on the daily. Even before my grandmother died, my mother and I always had this sort of brokenness, a fractured claim to connection. It seemed like we would never find a way to bond as mother and son, or wade in an emotional state of comfort.

By the time I was in that southern church processing Grandmother's death, I’d become a participant in the national narrative of cocaine through a Cuban cartel operating out of Miami.

In the future version of Randall, there would be twin-engine planes, cigarette boats moving through Caribbean waters with fiberglass kilos headed to Miami. There would also be homelessness and prison. There would be near-death misses, near-deaths attempted. I was a lost human drifting through the corridors of consciousness. What I am trying to say is I had become immersed in a culture of drugs. At the time of my grandmother’s death I was a college student in name and appearance only.

I was straddling a wafer-thin allegorical fence: The young man my parents wanted me to be versus who I was becoming.

During this transformation from college student to drug seller, my mother and I had a difficult time being in the same room without arguing about my life choices. To be honest, I did not make it easy. I rebelled at authority. Our disagreements were intense, mainly because, in the end, I wanted her to love me in a way I could not express. So I acted out, even as an adult. Perhaps my father saw this dynamic play out more than anyone, and when I was alone and angry, he would only offer, “You and your mother are just alike.”

My mother was never easy on me. Even as a boy she demanded I be tough, that I not cry. One time when I was homeless in D.C., I called the house late one night, and while my dad wanted to talk to me, my mother told my dad to hang up the damn phone . If I am honest with myself, I know why. I needed a tough love because a conventional love wasn’t working. It would take many years to understand my mother, that the silence she lived with growing up around her mother, the things she witnessed, it all played a part in how she raised me as her son. She saw how society withered those men up and took the joy out of living before they returned to the dirt. The booze, the women of the night, the gambling, the cons, all of these factors of the living she grew up around, as did I.

The day before my mother passed, I was at home in Birmingham, Alabama.

My mother had recently suffered a mild stroke, so mild she wasn’t aware until she went to the hospital and the doctor confirmed bleeding on the brain. The prognosis seemed to be good, so I did not fly home. I came two months later on my way to a literary conference in Dallas.

Perhaps my father saw this dynamic play out more than anyone, and when I was alone and angry, he would only offer, “You and your mother are just alike.”

The night before my flight departed for Texas, I was working on my panel presentation in my father’s office downstairs when I looked up and saw my mother lingering in the doorway with the most angelic smile. At that moment, wading in my own silence, I felt the sincerest connection I’d ever shared with my mother. Her glowing face was full of innocent youth. It was as if she were a teenager, and I was meeting her for the first time. My mother proceeded to explain she’d backed the car out of the garage and back in. A simple task, but for her it was validation that she was on the road to full recovery.

When I finished my panel the next day in Dallas, I checked my cell phone only to see way too many missed calls from my brother-in-law. The sheer volume told something was wrong. My mother had suffered a severe stroke. I needed to return to Birmingham immediately.

At the hospital my dad, sister and I received the prognosis there was nothing else to do, that she would never regain consciousness.  My mother would hang between the balance of life and death for the next five days. I could only think back to our exchange in the doorway of my father's office, that moment when whatever we were battling against with each other was over. In many ways that moment told me that whatever connection we had or did not have, I was her child, and she was my mother. The only way I knew to deal with the impending loss was to visit mother every day in the hospital and read her passages from my soon-to-be published book, "Dead Weight: A Memoir in Essays."

The first essay I read was from “November 2nd and A Mother’s Love,” in which I recall my mother and I attending the Inaugural Ball in honor of President-elect Barak Obama.

I wanted my mother to know how special that moment was when we shared the first dance, dressed to the nines in formal attire in the nation’s capital. This dance came after a five-year bid inside the carceral state, after two years in a drug program, a bachelor's degree, an MFA, and a PhD. After the PhD came my first tenure track job. I was now following in the shadow of my mother, also a lifelong educator.

The second passage came from my essay, “Eleven Days.” It took my mother 57 years to reveal to me — or rather, to my wife, on a visit after our marriage — that after my premature birth in 1961, I’d been separated from my mother for 11 days, for the sole reason of race. I recount what it must have felt like for her to have a child and then not have a child. For all the reasons in the world, this revelation made sense in terms of our broken claim to connection, and why we’d been on this journey since my birth.

Though my mother could not formulate words, I could stare into her fading eyes, and as I did, I became in sync with her every breath. I’d like to think she saw the passion, the writer in me, and never imagined this to be my destiny. I uttered the most difficult words I've had to speak when I told her, "It is OK to let go."

Author at 5 months old

I cried at the foot of her bed like I’d never lived by the code that weeping is for the weak. I didn’t give a damn. Whatever it was that I could not articulate had to come out. And in the crying came the baptism, and after the baptism came a sense that our love had always been that of mother and son, and maybe in the progression of death we truly understood each other. This was my mother’s final gift to me.

At the funeral, it was assumed, that I — the writer — would say something.

I sat in that same basement study where I last saw my mother alive, and after another good cry,  the first words I wrote were: “Come celebrate with us this life of longevity, a life realized through a commitment to service and achievement, taking every inch of what this social order gives, with all its constructs and ideologies within a nation that never could have imagined the existence of the strong Black woman — who is often cloaked in a sort of invisibility.” I wanted my mother to know she was never invisible.

I returned home a motherless child.

The next morning, while working on a creative nonfiction essay on my backyard deck in North Jersey, two doves appeared on the wooden railing. It is a backyard visited by darting sparrows and dignified blue jays lingering in the skeletal tree branches of spring. Sometimes against the background of a shed and garden, cardinals flash their emblematic red wings. But never doves.

As a poet, I viewed these two birds as Grandma and Momma, the two most important women in my life, checking in on me, letting me know they are always here, there, everywhere.

‘My Hero Academia's Todoroki Family Tree

There's family drama even among heroes.

The Big Picture

  • The Todoroki family in My Hero Academia is filled with dysfunction and tragedy, caused by the patriarch's obsession with surpassing the number one hero.
  • Endeavor's obsession leads to neglect, abuse, and a toxic family dynamic, with his wife and children suffering the consequences.
  • Despite the pain they endure, the Todoroki family shows glimpses of redemption and forgiveness, but the road to healing is long and difficult.

When it comes to dysfunctional family relationships, nobody in My Hero Academia tops the prestigious but tragic Todoroki family. There isn’t anything wrong with ambition in moderation, but Enji Todoroki ( Tetsu Inada / Patrick Seitz ), the family patriarch, took his ambition too far into obsession and ended up doing irreparable damage to his own family , the very foundation of which is built on jealousy and a dark side of the desire to go Plus Ultra.

My Hero Academia (2016)

*Availability in US

Not available

A superhero-admiring boy enrolls in a prestigious hero academy and learns what it really means to be a hero, after the strongest superhero grants him his own powers.

Enji Todoroki

Quirk: hellflame.

The number one hero in Japan, All Might ( Kenta Miyake / Christopher Sabat ), was a shining beacon of hope and inspiration for a long while, with many heroes looking up to him and many villains out for his blood. Enji Todoroki ( Tetsu Inada/Patrick Seitz ) was the only other person to seriously try and surpass All Might. To signify Enji’s constant work toward the number one spot, even his superhero name matches this attribute: Endeavor. My Hero Academia shows that ever since their rivalry hit its peak, Endeavor has been trying to surpass All Might, to the point where it almost feels like All Might is his reason for doing hero work at all . Although Hawks ( Yûichi Nakamura/Zeno Robinson ) sees Endeavor’s endeavor as an admirable trait (and it would have been, if kept to a healthy degree), the number two hero became even more obsessed when all his efforts didn’t get him any closer to All Might’s reign.

Realizing that he may never bridge the gap between them, Enji turned to the frowned-upon practice of “Quirk marriage.” In the society of My Hero Academia , where people with Quirks are more common than those without, a Quirk marriage between two compatible power sets could theoretically ensure an even more powerful offspring. Endeavor seeks out a marriage to Rei Himura ( Michiko Neya / Morgan Lauré Garrett ), but his obsession with being number one leads him down a dark and abusive road , as he neglects some children, overworks others, and pushes his wife to new heights of stress.

Recent seasons of the show explore Endeavor's motivations and a move toward redemption ; when All Might retires from hero work, he is automatically named the number one hero — which is everything he’s ever wanted — and yet he doesn't feel deserving of the title. He begins to realize the hurt he’s caused his family, and though the relationship between him and his youngest son Shoto ( Yūki Kaji / David Matranga ) is rocky (with a slow but steady movement toward forgiveness), other members of his family are more accepting of his atonement (and still others, not so much).

Rei Todoroki

Quirk: frost.

Rei Himura's family is thrilled to have an offer from Endeavor to enter into a Quirk marriage, and while Rei herself isn't entirely convinced, she goes through with it for her family's sake. Her Quirk, Frost, grants her ice powers that complement Enji's Hellflame. Together, they could create children who would potentially have the power to wield both fire and ice , which is seen as an exciting prospect to Enji and a way to have a big happy family for Rei. What seemed like a promising idea turns out to be the beginning of the Todoroki family’s darkest issues.

Enji's obsession with surpassing All Might leads him to dismiss his children who don't live up to his ridiculously high standards and expectations, and he gradually becomes more and more abusive. Rei herself is on the receiving end of physical abuse when she tries to stand up for her children, and she begins to lose her sense of safety. During a phone call with her mother, she shakily describes how, when she looks at her youngest child, six-year-old Shoto , she sees his father instead. Unfortunately, Shoto overhears this and startles Rei, resulting in her throwing boiling water on him out of fear and leaving Shoto with a large facial scar. The family breaks apart even more when Enji sends Rei to a hospital for her mental issues (which he himself caused). Though Rei does eventually start recovering, she loses precious time with her children. However, she is an extremely kind and forgiving person, taking into consideration Enji's thoughtfulness when he sends her favorite kind of flower to the hospital as an apology/peace offering. While Endeavor's attempts to reconcile with his family in the years following his abuse start out subtle and not at all satisfying, Rei recognizes the intent behind the gesture .

Toya Todoroki

Quirk: blueflame.

The Todoroki family dynamic is riddled with toxicity: the first three children who didn’t show promise or the potential to inherit both Quirks were either neglected or shunned, and the stress ended up landing Rei in the hospital. Toya Todoroki ( Hiro Shimono / Jason Liebrecht ), the firstborn, inherited a version of his father’s fire Quirk, but never got the ice, and so he was cast aside, especially when Shoto was born. In an attempt to earn his father’s praise and be the one to become his successor, Toya’s display of power was never enough — and using it badly burned his body. Though his family assumed he’d died when he used his Quirk and charred himself, Toya lived on and became one of the show’s most powerful and fearsome villains. He took on the name Dabi, and the trauma surrounding Toya and his fate would follow the Todoroki family and haunt their every interaction in My Hero Academia . Toya's fate was part of the catalyst for yet more neglect and abuse.

We Finally Have an Update on Netflix’s Live-Action 'My Hero Academia' Adaptation

Fuyumi todoroki.

Fuyumi Todoroki ( Kei Shindo / Kate Oxley ), the second born and the only daughter of the family, inherited her mother’s ice powers but never got the flame portion. Though she has significantly less screen time than other members of her family, she became the family’s attempted peacekeeper, showing an immense capability for forgiveness and a strong desire for her family to be whole and happy . Along with her mother's Quirk, Fuyumi also inherited her kind nature and peacekeeping personality. She works as an elementary school teacher and serves as a connective link between her siblings and her father, as she is the first one to forgive him when he acknowledges his wrongs and is fully supportive of having a family meal together (even if it's more than a little tense). Because Fuyumi's Quirk wasn't what her father was looking for, he kept his focus on Toya until Shoto's birth, neglecting Fuyumi in the process. Despite this, Fuyumi grew up to be a warm-hearted caretaker, much like her mother.

Natsuo Todoroki

Similarly to Fuyumi, the third child, Natsuo Todoroki ( Yuuki Shin / Adam Gibbs ), only inherited the ice Quirk from Rei (Frost) and was overlooked by Enji as well. This type of disdain and neglect from their father led to a traumatizing home environment, as Enji became more frustrated and, with the birth of Shoto, violent. However, despite the troubles of his childhood, Natsuo decides to go to college for a medical welfare degree, showing that, in some ways, he's able to move past what he endured when he was a kid and prepare for his future . Natsuo, however, was less willing than his sister to forgive his father for the horrific childhood they all endured. Of all the siblings (besides Dabi), he is the most outspoken against Enji and refuses to absolve his father of his past crimes , including neglecting him and his siblings, pushing Shoto beyond his limits, hospitalizing Rei, and being responsible for the "death" of Toya.

Shoto Todoroki

Quirk: half-cold half-hot.

Enji Todoroki’s Quirk marriage is successful in the end; after the fourth attempt, he finally gets the child he’d been trying for — Shoto Todoroki — who inherits his father’s flame Quirk and his mother’s ice Quirk, giving him control over both temperatures and ensuring his powerful skill set. After years of training, Shoto enters UA and begins showing incredible promise, especially when he beats All Might’s successor, Deku ( Daiki Yamashita / Justin Briner ), during the sports festival and showcases his control over fire and ice for all to see . Enji is so excited, in fact, that he even jumps up from the stands with his iconic “SHOTO!” scream.

My Hero Academia doesn't hold back when it comes to depicting tragic backstories. At the early age of five, Shoto was already enduring harsh training from Enji. He was isolated from his siblings and forced to keep to a rigorous schedule. He also experienced physical abuse and witnessed his mother endure similar treatment from Enji around this time; he is able to understand that, although his mother hurt him by throwing boiling water on his face, Enji was the one who pushed her to the breaking point. Shoto vows never to use his flame for fear of becoming like his father, and he keeps this promise for years until the UA sports festival, when Deku finally convinces him that using his full quirk wouldn’t make him like Endeavor — instead, it means he’s accepting his full potential as a hero. Shoto’s self-acceptance signaled a change in the Todoroki family, and from then on, the family dynamics began to change.

Though their toxicity is far from being fully healed, the Todoroki family has made strides toward redemption and forgiveness. Shoto’s acceptance of his full Quirk, Half-Cold Half-Hot, led him to begin the journey of mending his relationship with his mother, who has been recovering in the hospital. Unfortunately for the Todoroki family, their biggest source of pain continues to haunt them . Because of Enji’s abuse, Toya fully embraced his villainous side and became a powerful foe after taking up the name Dabi and joining the side of All For One ( Akio Ōtsuka / John Swasey ) with the goal of exposing his father’s abuse and taking his anger and jealousy out on Shoto, who was given their father’s coveted attention due to his Half-Cold Half-Hot Quirk. The family has begun its journey toward healing in My Hero Academia , but the road is still long, and every member of the family still has plenty of pain to get through.

With such a complicated family history and tense personal relationships, the Todoroki family is one of the most interesting and tragic group of characters in My Hero Academia , and they go through plenty of growth, whether they’re together or apart. With Season 7 of My Hero Academia currently airing, the story will only get more interesting as it continues.

My Hero Academia is available to stream on Hulu in the U.S.

Colby also shared onscreen a text exchange with his father in which he told his dad he could not go through with a particular theatrical performance because someone had criticized him. “My confidence just got shot,” wrote Colby.

Rubin wrote back, “Ignore the noise. You will get bad reviews for every show…Probably most of the kids feel the same way…but everyone is going to dig deep and do a great job. You have excellent genes. You have every gift. Respect your own talent.”

KTLA Reporter Sam Rubin's Son Pays Emotional Tribute To Late Dad On Air

Ktla reporter sam rubin son's tear-jerking on air tribute ... 'you'll always be my hero'.

Sam Rubin 's son paid tribute to his late father on the air just 3 days after his untimely death -- and it's heart-wrenching, to say the least ... because he got choked up several times.

Sitting beside his dad's KTLA colleagues Monday ... Colby Rubin held it together pretty well during a letter he read aloud to his dad ... but at times, needed a few seconds to collect himself before reflecting on his dad's profound impact on his life over the last 16 years.

Colby wasn't just speaking to the crowd ... the message was directly to Sam, making it all the more raw as he told SR how much he idolized him -- and how he'd always be his hero.

Colby goes on to say he owed who he was to his dad ... no doubt, making the realization that he wouldn't be there for his big life moments, such as his wedding, even more gut-wrenching when you hear him deliver this. Yeah, it's a tear-jerker for sure.

Colby made it clear in the time they had together, he experienced more of a father figure than some people do in their entire lives -- and also stressed the importance of hugging your loved ones every single day.

As we reported, the longtime entertainment reporter suffered a heart attack at his home Friday. After being rushed to UCLA West Hills, he went into full cardiac arrest and died.

Sam has been with KTLA since 1991 -- and he's been a mainstay in Southern California homes for decades, covering entertainment, movie, and TV news ... winning multiple Emmys along the way. He was 64.

'here's the money. buy a house': a kind family receives kindness in return.

Joy Diaz says her family's trajectory was changed after a gift. Joy Diaz hide caption

This story is part of the My Unsung Hero series, from the Hidden Brain team. It features stories of people whose kindness left a lasting impression on someone else.

When Joy Diaz was growing up, her parents devoted themselves to humanitarian work. The family lived in Mexico City, and although they were anything but wealthy, they still found ways to help people who were living in extreme poverty.

"When I talk about extreme poverty, what I mean is these people lived inside the municipal garbage dump," Diaz said.

Diaz's parents did everything they could to support the residents of the dump. They started by bringing in teachers and doctors. Eventually, they were able to build a health clinic, a school, a dining hall and even install public showers.

"But while that was happening, we did not have a home. We were renters," Diaz said.

One day, years into their endeavors, a man showed up at Diaz's house. His name was Jack Bloxham, and he had worked with the Diaz family in the past to provide care for community members. He'd come all the way from Richmond, Virginia.

"He flew into Mexico City, hopped in a taxi, came to the house, saw my mom and just gave her this paper bag full of money, full of cash. And he said, 'For many years, I've been wanting to buy a house for you. So here's the money. Buy a house,'" Diaz remembered.

Diaz believes this act of kindness changed her life. Her family moved into a middle class neighborhood, and the money they saved on rent instead paid for college tuition. But the impact of Bloxham's generosity didn't end there.

"It changed the trajectory of generations," Diaz explained. "Because today my children live in a middle class neighborhood, [and] because I am college educated I am able to have a better job than I could have had before."

Bloxham is now in his nineties. Diaz says she will always remember his kindness.

"I am forever grateful, Jack. Thank you."
