It was obvious the Soviets were better. But, in the movie Miracle, which told the incredible story of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team, Kurt Russell's character — Coach Herb Brooks — knew that this game was different.

The U.S. was better than the Soviets that day. And his speech conveyed such a strong belief in his team that they pulled off one of the greatest sports moments of the 20th century.

If you are in need of a quick boost of inspiration and motivation, you will find that in this post. I am one of those people who loves to get motivated. That sounds weird, right?

Well, a lot of people these days tend to give motivation a hard time because they don’t believe that it has lasting effects. In other words, they believe that what’s most important is your own self-discipline, because that’s what you have to rely on when motivation isn’t there.

And while I do agree with that sentiment in general, I will never pass up a great motivational podcast or YouTube video! 😀 There’s just something about them that even if they might not have lasting effects, they do truly help pump me up in the moment to get work done. And that’s usually what matters to me the most when I am looking for them in the first place.

So, here are the very best short motivational speeches so you can get that quick fix of motivation that you’re looking for, and ultimately move closer to your goals and dreams.

David Goggins is truly incredible. A former Navy SEAL, he has broken records and ran more races than you’d imagine. But the one thing that really stands out about him is his mindset.

This motivational speech is by a Navy SEAL who will remind you to start each day with a task completed, respect everyone, take risks, step up during tough times, and never give up. If you do these things, the next generation, and the generations that follow, will live better lives than we live today.

18. The Real You – Jim Carrey

This video is one of the best motivational speech examples because it reminds you of something so important: sometimes we can be so focused on earning more money, gaining fame, and becoming admired that we lose ourselves or we lose sight of what’s really important to us in the process.

Jim Carrey talks about how he is a great example of that. He got all of the money, fame, and admiration, and admits that that wasn’t really who he was. Sometimes it’s nice to be reminded that money and fame, or even getting to the top of the corporate ladder, while nice, aren’t going to be the thing that brings you fulfillment when it’s all said and done.

He’s probably my absolute favorite motivational speaker because he is successful and he works hard, but he’s also (seemingly) a kind, family guy who’s been through a few things.

In this video, he talks about being “the one” that changed his family tree. Take a listen because I’m sure it’ll get you thinking on whether or not you can be “the one” in YOUR family.

It’s the only way to get what you want in life.

Who couldn’t use a few of the best motivational speeches for entrepreneurs?

Business can be hard. Heck, life can be hard.

We’re all on a journey, and we’ve all been down in the dumps before, wondering if what we’re doing is really worth it.

Wondering if what we’re doing is really making an impact.

But, it’s important that we’re always moving forward. This is a lesson that I learned early in life.

I remember I was around 4 years old, and I was learning to ride my bike with my uncle and my father.

Of course, I fell off multiple times while I was learning to cycle, and I remember the time I cut my knee pretty badly.

At that point I really just wanted to quit and go home. But, my family told me: “you can’t quit now, you’re almost there. Just try it once more!”

You’ve probably heard that before too, right?

So, I got back on that bike. I didn’t want to, but you just need to power through and face your challenges head-on.

Sure enough, that was the first time that I rode that bike without any help.

After that, I was so glad I kept moving forward and that I never gave up.

Now, that probably wasn’t the motivational speech that you expected when you clicked on this article, but it’s evidence that we can do so much more than we think we’re capable of when we’re spurred on by others.

13 Best Motivational Speeches for Entrepreneurs

Considered one of the best motivational speeches, this famous motivational speech from the 2006 film, Pursuit of Happyness , features Will Smith and his son playing basketball.

At the start of the clip, you’ll see Smith’s son (his actual son, Jaden Smith) playing around with a basketball, and he shouts out, “I’m going pro!”

After hearing this, Smith decides to try and level his son’s expectations, mentioning that he himself never really excelled at basketball, so his son shouldn’t expect to either.

His son is visibly disappointed by this comment, and Smith notices this.

Smith then proclaims: “don’t ever let somebody tell you that you can’t do something, not even me.”

“You got a dream, you gotta protect it. You want something, go get it. Period.”

This motivational speech is a special one. Even though both Will and Jaden Smith are acting, they’re still father and son, and you can see how this scene reflects their own family dynamic.

It’s a short motivational speech, but it’s one of the best motivational speeches of all time, in our opinion.

Al Pacino’s speech from the American Football drama, Any Given Sunday, is next up on our list.

This famous motivational speech really gets your blood flowing – perfect for watching before you tackle a difficult day .

The motivational speech revolves around the idea of inches being so important in American Football, even if we have the tendency to overlook them.

He talks about the different ways that his team can gain advantages over their opponents, even if it’s only an inch at a time.

He proclaims: “when we add up all those […] inches, that’s what makes the difference between winning and losing”.

This point is applicable throughout life, too – it’s the people who go the extra mile who tend to find success more often than not.

And sometimes, you won’t notice it at first, but like Pacino mentions, it’s the sum of all the small parts which lead you to victory.

Motivational speeches like this one pump you up when you need it most.

Steve Jobs, one of the key figures behind tech giant Apple’s success, is next up on our list of the best motivational speeches of all time.

In his 2005 Stanford commencement speech, the former Apple CEO dives deep into his own journey as an entrepreneur , and he speaks openly about the issues that he’s faced along the way and how he overcame them.

During this classic motivational speech, Jobs talks about how he was actually a college dropout and that this was one of the most important times of his life. 

He mentioned that he dropped out of college to take classes that he was truly interested in, rather than studying topics he wasn’t deeply passionate about.

One of those classes that he took up after dropping out was calligraphy. He was so compelled by the high standard of handwriting.

To many, this might seem like a strange choice, but he connects the experience that he gained from that class to the font choices that he installed on Apple computers.

If Jobs had never taken that calligraphy class, he wouldn’t have cared so much about a seemingly small detail, like fonts, but Apple was the first company to add different typefaces to their operating systems. 

He goes on to say: “You can’t connect the dots if you’re looking forward, you can only do it looking backwards. So, you need to keep moving forward and hope that the dots align somehow.”

The key message from this famous motivational speech is that we’re always learning. We’re always growing and finding out new information. It’s all about what we choose to do with that information that really defines us.

As Jobs said: “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”

Next up on our list of motivational speeches is Matthew McConaughey, with his commencement speech at the University of Houston.

The Oscar-winning actor delivers some very pertinent points during his speech, but the one that stuck out for me was how he spoke of joy being a “constant approach”.

McConaughey said: “Joy is always in process, it’s always under construction.”

He spoke of how he was previously judging his success on metrics that he thought were important to him, like the number of academy awards he won, or the amount of money his films grossed.

But, it was only when he decided to focus on the whole process of creating a film, and enjoying every aspect of it, that he found true success in those metrics.

It turned out that, when he took everything one step at a time, and truly enjoyed his craft, he found that things just fell into place.

“Define success for yourself.”

Find what you want to achieve, and enjoy the entire journey – not just the high points, but the lows too.

Matthew McConaughey ended up delivering one of the best motivational speeches from the past few years.

Sheryl Sandberg, the American entrepreneur, tech executive, author, and current COO of Facebook, is the next addition to our list of the best motivational speeches with her talk at the Harvard Business School in 2012.

Besides talking about her own experiences as an entrepreneur, and her work at Facebook with Mark Zuckerberg, Sandberg mentions a very pertinent idea. One that we can all do well to remember.

“Motivation comes from working on things that we care about.”

This is certainly true for entrepreneurship – those who are running businesses and working to tackle problems that engage them are more likely to find success.

And, according to Sandberg, it’s so important that we continue to work, because that’s the most important thing.

All in all, this is one of the best motivational speeches for students that we’ve seen.

Rocky Balboa , played by Sylvester Stallone, is a famed character best known for his courage, hard work, and determination.

In Rocky Balboa, the sixth film in the Rocky franchise, Stallone delivers one of the hardest-hitting motivational speeches of all time.

Stallone starts off the motivational speech by saying: “The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows.”

He goes on to talk about the value of hard work and commitment and emphasizes that “it ain’t about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.”

As an entrepreneur, this motivational speech really hits home. There will be struggles on your journey to success , but as Stallone says, it’s all about “how much you can take and keep moving forward, that’s how winning is done.”

Remember this when your back is up against the wall – winners never give up!

This is one of the most iconic motivational speeches. You’ll often find it in motivational speech mashup videos on YouTube or even on Spotify.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Austrian-American actor, entrepreneur, politician, and former My Olympia, is next up on our list of the most famous motivational speeches for entrepreneurs.

He starts his motivational speech with a simple, powerful message.

“Work your ass off.”

Schwarzenegger then discusses how having a goal was so pivotal for him on his journey to success in a variety of fields.

He also talks about how “only a quarter of people really enjoy what they’re doing in life.”

Schwarzenegger also believes that everybody should be constantly working to get closer to their main goal and properly utilize every hour of their day.

“Imagine if you worked on a business every day for an hour . Imagine how further along you would get.”

This is perhaps the most important message from this motivational speech – it’s down to us to make the most of our limited time on earth. And this message, which everybody can get behind, is why we believe this is one of the best motivational speeches of all time.

Next up on our list, we’ve got an infamous TED talk from Richard St.John – also one of the shortest motivational speeches that we’ve ever seen, but it sure is impactful.

St.John mentions at the start of the video that this talk is a condensed version of 7 years of research (including research from more than five hundred interviews with successful professionals).

One of the most interesting points that St.John mentions is that if you want to be successful at something, you need to “put your nose down in something and get damn good at it.”

But, the most motivational part of St.John’s speech for us was where he talks about passion.

He said: “if you do something you love then the money comes along later.”

This section of the motivational speech is especially relevant for entrepreneurs – if you’re building a brand , then try and be invested in it as much as possible – a commitment to the cause will really help you find success in the long run. 

When you’re trying to find success, you need to love what you do!

Eric Thomas is a fantastic speaker, and in this classic motivational speech, he empowers us to believe that we can always get through adversity, no matter what the challenge is.

Thomas repeats this line throughout the speech: “I can get through this. I will get through this. I must get through this.”

He also cleverly uses our loved ones as a source of inspiration in this motivational speech.

He asks us to focus on the 3 people we love the most and challenges us to question our own decisions regarding motivation.

“You gotta think about those people every day.”

“You have some days when you think about hitting the snooze button? […] The days you don’t feel like getting up, just think about them.”

Instead of being lazy and complacent, we need to think about our loved ones and question what they’d think if we were procrastinating 24/7 .

Honestly, it’s fine doing something for yourself, but knowing that you’ve made your loved ones proud just makes everything feel 10 times better. This is one of the main messages from this motivational speech. 

And that’s why this is one of the best motivational speeches of all time. It takes the onus away from working for yourself and instead focuses on putting in the work for people you couldn’t bear to let down.  

Elon Musk – USC Commencement Motivational Speech

Elon Musk is an icon of inspiration for countless people worldwide. Known for his out-of-the-box thinking and visionary technology, Musk shows us that anything is possible if we put our minds to it.

In the USC Commencement motivational speech, Elon immediately demonstrates his tendency to break away from the status quo. He tells us he was advised to stick to 3 items that he wanted to mention, but he’s going to share four.

Elon tells his listeners that they need to work proportionally to the accomplishments they want to achieve. “If you want to start a company, you need to work super hard.”

Elon’s speech here is compelling because it’s so authentic. He doesn’t talk about being lucky or following your gut instinct. Musk tells us that great things come from an equally astronomical amount of work.

Musk also acknowledges the power of great people, “all a company is, is a group of people that have gathered together.” Elon says that if you want a great company, you need a great team.

Musk’s third point is to “focus on signal over noise.” In other words, concentrate on developments that make the product better, “don’t just follow the trend.”

The final piece of advice from Elon’s speech? “Take risks.” Jump into new opportunities and pursue different things.

Ed Shereen – Being Weird is a Wonderful Thing

Ed Sheeran might not be the first person you think of when you visualize the world’s greatest thought leaders. Yet, he constantly moves millions of people with his music and his words.

At the 9 th Annual American Institute for Stuttering Benefit Gala, Sheeran talked about how Eminem helped him overcome his speech impediment.

Persuasive speech is also an informative speech. because here speaker gives information in a lucrative manner to influence others.

For Example  –  in any debate, every person is try to persuade others to follow their given point of view. It is a form of persuasive speech.

In another example, During the advertising and promotional functions of any business, the sales manager or speaker uses his persuasion skills to influence the audience. Here the main purpose of speech is to change the thinking, beliefs, or behaviors of the audience towards his product.

✔ Factual Persuasive Speech:

The Factual Persuasive Speech is such a speech that contains facts and it is based on a concrete proof about the certainty of anything that had happened.

The main purpose of this factual persuasive speech is to persuade the listeners whether the certain thing happened or not, exists or doesn’t exist.

For Example – If a student is giving a speech about the first man, who landed on the surface of the Moon. Nobody in the class knows whether it did happen or not, yet it possesses concrete proof.

✔ Value Persuasive Speech:

A Value Persuasive Speech is such a speech that tells the listeners about anything, whether it is wrong or right. The purpose of this speech is to challenge the ethical or moral aspects of a certain issue.

For Example –  If someone is giving a speech about capital punishment, whether it is moral or immoral, right or wrong, done or prevented. this type of speech is a value persuasive speech.

✔ Policy Persuasive Speech:

The policy persuasive speech refers to that speech where the speaker is trying to persuade the audience to either following a policy or rejecting it. It is not limited to just a policy, but it can be about accepting or rejecting a rule or a candidate is also a policy persuasive speech.

For Example – Suppose If the President of a country is not satisfied with the present foreign policy and wants to change it. The president gives a speech to higher authorities for convincing them to change the current foreign policy and support the new policy then it is known as policy persuasive speech.

◉ Special Occasion Speech:

Even as I speak and you listen to this speech, The residents of Goa are raising their voices against an infrastructure plan which is all set to cut through Mollem National Park and destroy the habitat of thousands of animals. Even as I speak, 10,000 clothing items are being sent to landfills every 5 minutes. All because of Fast Fashion! Even as I speak, more than 80 percent of the world population is living under light-polluted skies. All because of light pollution!  And, when we actually reflect upon all of these things, there’s no one to blame but us.  Yet, we choose to remain silent.  So, I ask you today,   Why are we silent? Why don’t we care about the planet we live on?  I believe that by choosing to remain silent over the environmental issues, we are doing a disgrace to the very act of humanity.  Ain’t we ought to save this environment while we still can?  I know that since time immemorial, we have grown up learning about sustainability. In the most literal sense, we PREACH sustainability. But when it comes to bringing that into practice, our values shy away.  All of a sudden, we start to run short of time. You know why? The reason is we don’t appreciate our environment, anymore. And, that’s the root cause that is holding us back in the pathway towards sustainability.  I still remember when I was 10 years old, my father and I had this really nice ritual of going to the park for evening walks. Back then, it just didn’t matter what headspace we’re in, the air of calmness that surrounded the park would just put us at ease. It was THAT therapeutic!   But, coming back to this so-called modern mechanized era, we’ve parted our ways with this ritual. Now, in these times, even the thought of going to a park sounds cliché to all of us!   We need to learn to appreciate, nurture, and love our environment in order to save it. Because it all begins at home! You and I CAN make the difference and now is the time to inculcate sustainable lifestyle habits. The first step here can be as simple as cutting down the waste we produce in the environment. Be it in terms of buying packaged fruits and vegetables from a farmers’ market or making the area you live in litter-free. Moving ahead, the next step might sound a bit difficult because let’s face it- We ALL love shopping! But, when it comes to leading a sustainable lifestyle, minimalism is the key. Start prioritizing every single time you shop for something. When you do this, you value things you own and don’t end up wasting so much.  Gladly, to our relief, the world isn’t that pessimistic. In this age of globalization, we now have people as ‘environmental influencers’ initiating a call for action. Let’s shower our love and support towards them by drawing inspiration from them.  Therefore, I now say,  Let’s pledge to align our values and actions.  Let’s pledge to spend more time in nature.  And most important of all, let’s pledge to save this planet while we are on this planet.

For those who attended this week’s  Green Growth conference at the Trade Unions Congress (TUC) a rare treat was on offer. Among the useful and insightful presentations by scientists explaining the latest data trends was an inspirational speech given by John Ashton, a former diplomat who until last year was the special representative for climate change at the foreign office.

Ashton made one of the best environment speeches I’ve ever heard. He didn’t mention climate change till about the 75 th paragraph. The ability to situate our environmental challenge in a wider debate about the kind of society and economy we want is one of the most effective things an environmental speech can do. With that in mind I reflected on some of the other great speeches I’ve heard on green issues. So, in chronological order:

1. Al Gore, 2006

The obvious but still worth mentioning one is Al Gore’s speech immortalised in ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ (2006). It may be quite dated now but it’s not often that footage of a politician giving a power point presentation is made into a movie This was the speech that first alerted me to the importance of the environmental crisis facing the planet.

2. Ed Miliband, 2009

While I was still studying my postgraduate degree in 2009 I remember hearing this speech on the LSE podcast service. The speech was about the politics of climate change but featured a coherent argument in favour of what then was referred to as ‘the politics of the common good’ but what we now call ‘one nation labour’. It’s powerful to read it now and recognise the coherence of the Miliband project even then.

It’s worth noting that what the speech says about energy bills is consistent with the debate we’re currently having in the context of the price freeze. On the one hand Miliband states that prices will rise but the speech is clear that this means that the market will have to function as fairly as possible. This is a useful reminder that the price freeze policy has to be understood side by side with Labour’s plans for reforming the energy markets including a new regulator and splitting generation from supply.

3. Lord Deben, 2013

Earlier this year I was honoured to speak on the same platform as Lord Deben at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s climate justice conference . Lord Deben got up and talked about his maiden speech in the House of Lords. He said “I’m here to talk about the need to reduce poverty, fight climate change and the importance of Europe.”

It was a fine speech that challenged climate sceptics and argued that solving the environmental crisis requires a cross-party consensus. Lord Deben rarely speaks from pre-written speeches, but to get a flavour here’s an article he wrote for a Fabian collection on tackling climate change.

4. Ed Balls, 2013

This was a major speech because it was the first one in the 2010 parliament that demonstrated Labour really ‘got’ environmental issues. It was given to the Green Alliance annual reception and featured a host of green policy commitments including a 2030 energy sector decarbonisation target and a pledge to give the Green Investment Bank (GIB) power to borrow on the open market.

In the speech Ed Balls illustrated that under Labour the global race would be one fought on terms of cooperation with friends abroad, not just a competition to build more. This was an argument expanded by Ed Miliband at this year’s Labour conference. In the context of green issues it is absolutely right to argue that we cannot build as much as China but we can build it smarter. We can then export that kind of expertise.

5. John Ashton, 2013

Ashton’s speech began with a touching story about his family background and the injustices they faced in the time of his grandfather who was blacklisted during the great depression. The speech then describes in detail and with passion the myriad challenges facing the economy and politics. It is because the climate crisis cannot be separated from the wider cost of living crisis and the lack of faith in politics that Ashton’s speech is so resonant. It’s an argument he makes brilliantly and a throughline that features in of all the speeches I’ve set out above.

Those who see the environmental challenge in a silo misunderstand the basic truth: without the environment there can be no real economy or politics to speak of. Indeed, the top four news stories on the BBC yesterday at one point were a new nuclear power plant deal, forest fires in Australia, energy price increases and food waste from Tesco. All four deeply political and deeply environmental. Looking back at these speeches, who can really say green issues are marginal?

The natural environment is composed of climate and nature, both of which have a great influence on the health of a person.

In recent years there have been various natural calamities that have given various negative outcomes. For example- earthquakes, floods, famine, wildfires, and more.

The threat to our environment is because of the human activities which are responsible for causing serious damage to our environment.

Some reasons for Environmental degradation are industrialization, urbanisation, deforestation, unplanned dumping of waste, and more.

One needs to be the change one wants to see in the world. Thus, we need to start saving our environment and take the first step towards environmental preservation.

A few ways to save the environment include using fewer chemicals, buying locally, planting more trees, and many more.

When we save our environment, we take a step towards saving mankind.

Our Environment is suffering and is in distress. The fact that this distress our environment is in is a result of human activities is heart wrenching. The threat our environment is facing is alarming and cannot be ignored. It is our duty to take steps toward saving our environment before we have to cry over spilled milk. As the inhabitants of this Earth, everyone is equally responsible towards the environment and should do their bit to save it from destruction. It is the result of human activities which have disrupted the ecological balance of the earth and are resulting in the occurrence of various natural calamities frequently.

Need to Save the Environment

The quality of life on earth is getting degraded with each passing second. The weather conditions are becoming harsher each day and are proof enough that our environment is calling out for help. The natural calamities are increasing each day which has become a cause of the loss of a number of lives. Melting glaciers and impending natural calamities which might be a result of the same and is another cause why the environment needs to be saved.

What Can We Do

Saving the Environment can be a hard task but we can initiate a step. We need to start saving our environment by proper handling of waste materials. To handle waste one should focus more on recycling items and proper dumping of waste. Also, the use of coal should be reduced and the world must switch to renewable energy resources like solar and hydroelectricity.

The world needs us to protect our environment. We celebrate World’s Environment Day on 5 June every year to know what measures we can take to save our earth from more destruction. Causes of Environmental Degradation

The deterioration of the Earth’s environment is termed Environmental degradation. Environmental degradation is done through the consumption of assets available in nature for humans, for example, air, water, and soil. It is visible when there are sudden changes in nature that are undesirable. This leads to the extinction of wildlife and the loss of humans.

The causes of Environment degradation include:

Pollution: Pollution in all forms is harmful to the environment. Water pollution degrades the quality of water and makes it unfit for consumption. Air pollution degrades the quality of air and makes it unfavourable for inhalation. Such air when inhaled causes various diseases like Asthma, bronchitis, etc.

Overpopulation: Increase in the rate of population results in strain on natural resources. More people need more places to live, more opportunities to do work, and more industries to be developed. All these human activities result in the destruction of the environment.

Deforestation: Deforestation is the process of cutting down trees. Deforestation leads to soil erosion and makes soil unfit for growing crops. Deforestation also leads to an increase in global warming. Patterns of rainfall are also disrupted due to deforestation.

Ways to Preserve our Environment

A strong emphasis should be put forth on tree planting. Planting trees improves the quality of air, and soil, and also results in a decrease in global warming. An increase in the number of trees results in improved quality of air and life as a whole.

Sincere attention should also be paid to forest conservation. Forests are an important part of the environment and need to be preserved. The extinction of forests has led to a loss of habitat for wildlife and has also led to the extinction of species from the earth.

Steps need to be taken by the government to preserve forests and the destruction of forests should be made a criminal offence.

Another important factor that should be paid attention to while conserving our environment is soil conservation. Soil conservation is necessary for agriculture and human and wildlife. Soil conservation can be done by afforestation and tree planting.

The most important advantage that people achieve through Environmental Conservation is that the global environment will become stable and normal.

Another important advantage is that people's health will improve. When we improve the quality of natural assets available to us our health starts improving and our quality of life also increases. • Identify the five steps of developing an effective speech

Let’s assume you see the value in developing public speaking as a skill. Where do you start? A good warm-up exercise is to watch a few TED Talks , organized by topic and popularity, among other categories. If you prefer to proceed straight to the cream of the crop, Steve Jobs’ classic “How to Live Before You Die” speech delivered at Stanford University’s 2005 commencement is excellent inspiration and perspective—for life as well as for speaking. If you watch a few talks, you’ll notice that each presenter has a unique message and style that makes him or her compelling. This is a key point. While we all learn process and technique by copying the masters, as legions of artists have done before us, the artistry (and magic, from the audience’s standpoint) is in finding your own voice and developing your personal style. In practical terms, this means that you also have to develop and curate your own material using your life experience, insights, and observations to illustrate your points.

Whether you’re facing a blank sheet of paper or a blank screen, the start is always the hardest part of a speaking project. We’re going to work through that obstacle by following this five-step jump start.

• Develop your benefit statement
• Develop your positioning statement
• Derive your title
• Create your content

Choose Your Topic

For perspective on topics, you can scan the 194 topics used by the National Speakers Association (click on “Browse the complete topic list”). If there’s a conference or Chamber of Commerce or professional association event you want to speak at, scan the associated website(s), social media posts, and publications to get a sense of what topics might be a good fit. In choosing your topic, consider your experience and expertise. That’s not to say that you need to be an acknowledged expert on a particular topic—that’s where research comes in—but you do need to have an interest in the topic and a base level of credibility. Although there are hundreds of potential topics, it’s very likely that a particular topic has already been covered a number of times by a number of people. Given that, the essential question is what can you bring to the topic that others haven’t? That is, how can you approach an exhausted topic with fresh eyes to make it feel new and engaging?

Develop Your Benefit Statement

Once you’ve decided on a topic, the next step is to develop a one to two sentence benefit statement that supports your credibility as a speaker on that topic. The benefit statement should answer the question: why you? This is similar to the process you would go through in pitching an article to a publisher. What is the unique value—experience, expertise, point of view—that you bring to the topic? For different frames of reference on benefit statements, scan the speaker bios and bylines of writers that cover topics of interest to you.

Develop Your Positioning Statement

The positioning statement is an expansion of the last step that tailors your benefit statement to a specific audience. Working through this step helps you clarify who your audience is and what you will be presenting to them. Although the positioning statement is for internal purposes, the focus is external—what’s the ROA (return on attention) for the audience? Don’t skip this step; it will help you focus your thoughts, minimize interesting but off-point digressions, and help maintain a coherent structure and flow through the research, writing, editing, and ultimately, speaking phases.

Develop Your Title

In moving from your positioning statement to the speech title, think of your speech as a product or service—what would prompt someone to “buy” what you’re offering? Your title is a pitch—or your bid for the audience’s attention. To get to that pitch, select a few key words from your positioning statement and brainstorm a compelling headline. For additional insight and exercises, read Larry Kim’s Inc article, “ 30 Ideas for Super Clickable Blog Headlines ,” explore the BBC News resources on writing headlines , or watch the “How to Write a Hook” YouTube video . You may also want to browse the titles of articles and blogs posted to your target audience’s (i.e., industry or professional association) websites and publications. Remember that as you develop your content, your title might need some adjusting. If you don’t need to submit your title far in advance (to be printed in a brochure or program), revisit it once your content is complete to make sure it still fits. If you do need to submit it before your content is fully developed, try to leave a little wiggle room and not make it too specific regarding the conclusions you might come to.

Develop Your Content

Once you have your title and framework from your positioning statement, you’re ready to start developing your content. Of course, you’ve been building useful content all along through your life experiences. Reflect on the relevant lessons you’ve learned, and make note of some of the experiences—a key quote or visual, an emotion or insight, people or places. Use these events as possible connections to consider and, if applicable, work them in to your speech to illustrate your points. Research is a skill, and art, unto itself (refer to the Washington University librarians’ Conducting Research pages for additional tips and resources), but a good jumping-off point is doing an internet search of your keywords. If you have lead time, you can set up a Google Alert to monitor relevant news and developments. It can also be helpful to find and follow subject-matter experts for your topic and tune in to current trends. To do this, conduct “ best of ” searches to find thought leaders. You may achieve both objectives in one search, as in this Forbes article: “ Top Shopping Trends of 2018: Retail Experts Share What to Watch for Next Year ,” one of the results in a search for “ best retail marketers .”

Reminder : Remember to document your sources! Include citations in your written speech in order to give credit where credit is due and to be able to follow-up on any related audience questions.

The most important factors causing harmful environmental effects are various human activities and the high growth of population groups.

Let's explore some of the destructive activities of mankind: humans have always cut down trees to make way for agriculture, wood and use of plants. There are a few great forests left, namely the Amazon and the large forests of Indonesia. These are threatened by people who exploit them for logging or to clear them for palm oil production, which is highly valued worldwide. The international community should assist Brazil and Indonesia to save these precious resources from deforestation.

Humanity is filling the atmosphere with greenhouse gases such as CO 2 and other harmful industrial and fossil fuel emissions. Global warming is caused by hydrofluorocarbons and CFCs from refrigeration found in air conditioners. Plastic waste, which causes sea life like dolphins to die from stomach problems, pollutes the oceans. 

What are the imminent dangers: According to the official NASA website, staggering CO 2 emissions are greater than the previous 400,000 years. The earth has heated up by 0.8 degrees since 1880, with other harmful emissions such as greenhouse gasses released by coal and natural gas and HFCs. Some scientists believe that by the end of the century, the earth may warm up by an incredible 6 degrees, according to Business Insider and NASA. Under the Paris Accord, nations have promised to keep global warming down to 1.5 per cent. The most recent warming on record has been in the last 20 years. 

For life on Earth, what does this mean? To say the least, the outlook is gloomy unless attitudes change. 

The best way to protect and save the environment is to make people aware of the fact that what the environment provides us with and the impact on us that will be caused by environmental degradation. The warming of the earth by human activities is a major cause for concern. If nothing is done, illness, hunger and flooding will be a major problem this century as the earth gets hotter, ice melts and water levels rise. Large chunks of agricultural land will be flooded. 

We can actively participate in the campaign to save the Earth when all human beings learn the importance of the environment.  We can cease using plastic bags and reusable plastic straws on a personal level. When we go shopping, we can use fabric and other reusable bags. With palm oil, we can try to use fewer products that cause widespread deforestation. By eating less meat, we can reduce our carbon footprint; large-scale farming generates enormous amounts of CO 2 from cattle emissions and maintenance. I hope that if each of us has decided to make the environment good, then for the next generation, we will be able to pass on a green environment.

Effect on people: Human beings are inherently affected by the deterioration of the environment. The ozone layer depletion triggers skin cancer. Besides, excess pollution leads to multiple respiratory problems, such as asthma or lung cancer. It is also said to affect farming. I would like all of you to consider contributing to the protection of the environment and to make other people aware of this as well. You can help save our environment.

The true value of the environment is something we simply cannot comprehend. To better understand it, we can make some educated assumptions regarding its significance. It is essential for maintaining the well-being of all living organisms in the environment. And it preserves the ecological balance necessary to control life on Earth. It satisfies all of the needs of humans, no matter how tiny or great, by providing food, shelter, and air.

In addition, everything that keeps humans alive depends entirely on environmental variables. It also helps maintain the numerous life cycles on the planet. Most significantly, our environment is the wellspring of all that is beautiful about nature and is essential to preserving both our bodily and emotional well-being.

Although the environment is self-sustaining and capable of recovering from harm, a lot depends on how humans handle it. We will receive from the environment in the same manner that we treat it. But sometimes, people do things that can harm the environment, like littering the ground or using a lot of electricity. When we do these things, it can pollute the air, water, and land and also harm animals and plants.

Hello everyone, I am here to present a speech on cleanliness. In India, it is a saying that goddess Laxmi ( the goddess of wealth and money)  resides where the cleanliness persists. Thus, cleanliness and hygiene are always a priority and important in Indian culture. Also when we see a place or home which is clean it gives us visual treat and pleasure. Cleanliness is also important to maintain good health and quality lifestyle. Cleanliness can also be attributed to a habit of successful people. Next to hard work, cleanliness tells a lot about a person’s character.

With the coming of the new government in the country since 2014, cleanliness is given priority on the whole new level through “Swachcha  Bharat Mission”. The “ Swachacha Bharat Mission” has targeted to clean the country by the year 2030. Also, our national leader  Shri  Mahatma Gandhi has always preached every citizen of the country to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings.

Why Maintain Cleanliness?

It is no rocket science to understand that cleanliness is very important in maintaining the health of the family members and the whole nation. As lack of cleanliness and hygiene gives rise to a number of germs. This leads to several deadly diseases ultimately affecting the health of the overall nation. Thus to lead a healthy lifestyle we need to adopt cleanliness in our daily routine.

How to Maintain Cleanliness?

We  should  follow  and   teach our  younger  generation to follow  some basic steps  to maintain cleanliness  on day  to day  basis  like:

• Brushing teeth before eating anything in the morning.
• Always wash hands after using the toilets.
• Always wash hands before eating anything.
• Wear washed clothes.
• Always use dustbin to throw the garbage.

Other than these, the females and other members in the house should maintain cleanliness by washing the vegetables before use, cleaning house floors daily with disinfectants, etc. Maintaining human health and hygiene is important but maintaining environmental cleanliness is also equally important.

Maintaining  Environmental Cleanliness

The earth is our home. It provides us with many things of our daily use as food, water, and air. Thus,  we should consider it as our home and become responsible for maintaining its cleanliness. Due to continuous population explosion, we can see here and there, packets of food, plastic beverages bottles, littering, pollution which is making our earth dirty. The environmental cleanliness can be enhanced by adopting measures such as usage of dustbin while traveling or using roads, avoiding spitting and throwing garbage in the surroundings, avoiding usage of plastic bags,  and adopting measures of recycling.

Cleanliness is not only a  necessity but it can also become a habit. A  responsible person is also a clean person. By adopting cleanliness in our home and surroundings, we will contribute to building a healthier nation. A smile is contagious so is cleanliness. When you see a person or a home clean, it also motivates you to clean your surroundings. Thus, we should encourage a number of people to adopt cleanliness measures by mouth publicity or doing awareness camps through advertisements, banners hoarding, etc, spreading awareness on less use of plastic, spreading awareness on the use of recycled products and biodegradable products. With a collective effort, we can achieve cleanliness and in turn, we can get good health and happiness as a reward.

1 Minute Speech on the Importance of the Environment In English

A very good morning to one and all present here. Today, I will be giving a short speech on the topic of the importance of the environment. 

Google defines the environment to be “the surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal, or plant lives or operates.” It, in fact, comprises of both living and non-living elements within it. 

Every single one of us here would surely have come across the various concerns that have been raised for the protection of the environment. However, have we ever paused to think why our environment is important and ought to be saved?

Firstly, without the environment, there would be no renewable and non-renewable resources our lives are impossible without. Secondly, the environment includes air, water, sunlight, and soil- which are crucial for our very existence. Again, our very food, be it plants or animals or cereals or pulses, will be non-existent in the absence of the environment!

The environment is thus what sustains life.

Higher for Longer After All? Investors See Fed Rates Falling More Slowly.

Investors went into 2024 expecting the Federal Reserve to cut rates sharply. Stubborn inflation and quick growth call that into question.

Investors were betting big on Federal Reserve rate cuts at the start of 2024, wagering that central bankers would lower interest rates to around 4 percent by the end of the year. But after months of stubborn inflation and strong economic growth, the outlook is starting to look much less dramatic.

Market pricing now suggests that rates will end the year in the neighborhood of 4.75 percent. That would mean Fed officials had cut rates two or three times from their current 5.3 percent.

Policymakers are trying to strike a delicate balance as they contemplate how to respond to the economic moment. Central bankers do not want to risk tanking the job market and causing a recession by keeping interest rates too high for too long. But they also want to avoid cutting borrowing costs too early or too much, which could prod the economy to re-accelerate and inflation to take even firmer root. So far, officials have maintained their forecast for 2024 rate cuts while making it clear that they are in no hurry to lower them.

Here’s what policymakers are looking at as they think about what to do with interest rates, how the incoming data might reshape the path ahead, and what that will mean for markets and the economy.

What ‘higher for longer’ means.

When people say they expect rates to be “higher for longer,” they often mean one or both of two things. Sometimes, the phrase refers to the near term: The Fed might take longer to start cutting borrowing costs and proceed with those reductions more slowly this year. Other times, it means that interest rates will remain notably higher in the years to come than was normal in the decade leading up to the 2020 pandemic.

When it comes to 2024, top Fed officials have been very clear that they are primarily focused on what is happening with inflation as they debate when to lower interest rates. If policymakers believe that price increases are going to return to their 2 percent goal, they could feel comfortable cutting even in a strong economy.

When it comes to the longer term, Fed officials are likely to be more influenced by factors like labor force growth and productivity. If the economy has more momentum than it used to, perhaps because government infrastructure investment and new technologies like artificial intelligence are kicking growth into higher gear, it might be the case that rates need to stay a little bit higher to keep the economy operating on an even keel.

In an economy with sustained vigor, the rock-bottom interest rates that prevailed during the 2010s might prove too low. To use the economics term, the “neutral” rate setting that neither heats up nor cools down the economy might be higher than it was before Covid.

For 2024, sticky inflation is the concern.

A few Fed officials have argued recently that interest rates could remain higher this year than the central bank’s forecasts have suggested.

Policymakers projected in March that they were still likely to lower borrowing costs three times in 2024. But Neel Kashkari, the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, suggested during a virtual event last week that he could imagine a scenario in which the Fed did not lower interest rates at all this year. And Raphael Bostic, the Atlanta Fed president, said he didn’t foresee a rate cut until November or December.

The caution comes after inflation — which came down steadily throughout 2023 — has moved sideways in recent months. And with new strains surfacing, including a pickup in gas prices, mild pressure on supply chains after a bridge collapse in Baltimore and housing price pressures that are taking longer than expected to fade from official data, there’s a risk that the stagnation could continue.

Still, many economists think that it is too early to fret about inflation’s stalling out. While price increases were quicker in January and February than many economists had expected, that could have owed partly to seasonal quirks, and it came after meaningful progress.

The Consumer Price Index inflation measure, which is set for release on Wednesday, is expected to cool to 3.7 percent in March after volatile food and fuel costs are stripped out. That is down from an annual reading of 3.8 percent in February and far below a 6.6 percent peak in 2022.

“Our view is that inflation is not getting stuck,” said Laura Rosner-Warburton, senior economist at MacroPolicy Perspectives. “Some areas are sticky, but I think they’re isolated.”

The recent inflation data do not “materially change the overall picture,” Jerome H. Powell, the Fed chair, said during a speech last week , even as he signaled that the Fed would be patient before cutting rates.

The longer run is also in focus.

Some economists — and, increasingly, investors — think that interest rates could stay higher in coming years than Fed officials have predicted. Central bankers forecast in March that rates will be down to 3.1 percent by the end of 2026, and 2.6 percent in the longer run.

William Dudley, a former president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, is among those who think that rates could remain more elevated. He noted that the economy had been expanding quickly despite high rates, suggesting that it can handle higher borrowing costs.

“If monetary policy is as tight as Chair Powell is arguing, then why is the economy still growing at a rapid pace?” Mr. Dudley said.

And Jamie Dimon, the chief executive of JPMorgan Chase, wrote in a shareholder letter this week that big societal changes — including the green transition, supply chain restructuring, rising health-care costs and increased military spending in response to geopolitical tensions — could “lead to stickier inflation and higher rates than markets expect.”

He said the bank was prepared for “a very broad range of interest rates, from 2 percent to 8 percent or even more.”

Borrowing would be pricier.

If the Fed does leave interest rates higher this year and in years to come, it will mean that the cheap mortgage rates like those that prevailed in the 2010s are not coming back. Likewise, credit card rates and other borrowing costs would most likely remain higher.

As long as inflation is not stuck, that could be a good sign: Superlow rates were an emergency tool that the Fed was using to try to revive a flailing economy. If they don’t come back because growth has more momentum, that would be a testament to a more robust economy.

But for would-be homeowners or entrepreneurs who have been waiting for the cost of borrowing to come down, that could provide limited comfort.

“If we are talking about interest rates that are higher for longer than consumers were expecting, I think consumers would be disappointed,” said Ernie Tedeschi, a research scholar at Yale Law School who recently left the White House’s Council of Economic Advisers.
