“Clean India Green India” is a multifaceted initiative aimed at transforming the nation’s landscape by focusing on cleanliness and environmental sustainability. At its core, the campaign emphasizes the importance of maintaining cleanliness in public spaces and promoting green practices such as tree planting.
Firstly, the program addresses the pressing issue of waste management. India generates over 62 million tonnes of municipal solid waste annually, with only about 43 million tonnes being collected and a mere 11.9 million tonnes being treated. By implementing effective waste management strategies, such as segregation at source, recycling, and proper disposal, the program aims to reduce the environmental impact of waste.

The Indian government has set ambitious targets for tree plantation, aiming to increase forest cover to 33% of the total geographical area. Fourthly, “Clean India Green India” emphasizes the importance of sustainable urban development. Rapid urbanization has led to environmental degradation, pollution, and loss of green spaces. The program promotes sustainable urban planning practices, such as green building construction, efficient waste management systems, and public transportation infrastructure.
Fifthly, the initiative fosters environmental awareness and education. By engaging communities, schools, and other stakeholders, the program aims to instil a sense of responsibility towards the environment and promote sustainable lifestyles. Environmental education programs, workshops, and awareness campaigns are conducted to spread the message of “Clean India Green India”.
Lastly, “Clean India Green India” envisions a cleaner and greener future for India. By implementing comprehensive policies, investing in infrastructure, and fostering community participation, the program aims to create a sustainable environment for future generations. With continued efforts and collective action, India can achieve its goal of a clean and green nation.

Clean India Green India Essay: India is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. It is blessed with immense natural beauty, evident from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Gujarat to Mizoram. The entire landscape of India is full of diverse natural beauties such as mountains, plateaus deserts, forests, grasslands, plains, beaches, rivers, lakes and so on. However, this beauty is tarnished by the litter all around us. Thus, in this article, we provide a Clean India Green India Essay 500 words and a Clean India Green India Essay 150.
Clean India Green India Essay 500 words
A Clean India Green India Essay 500 words is as follows
Maintaining cleanliness is one of the most important parts of maintaining a healthy life. If we are surrounded by litter, filth, and waste, our health deteriorates productivity decreases, increases stress, reduces beauty etc. It also paints an unclean place in a bad picture.
India is developing at an unbelievable speed. Many things, products and services that we enjoy today were unimaginable a few decades ago. But, it has also led to our country becoming extremely unclean due to the huge amount of waste generated each day. The streets all around are full of litter and a strong foul odour can be smelled around that place. India has also performed poorly in the Global Environment Performance Index, falling to the 177th position worldwide.
Most of the waste out there is produced by human activity. It consists of both biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. However, waste generation is not a problem here; it is the careless behaviour of the people that is a problem. Littering is done on quite a large scale in India. Indians usually carelessly throw away waste on the streets in order to keep their houses and shops clean.
Such behaviour by people leads to many problems. First, it makes our streets unhygienic, and many times, too dirty to even walk. Second, it harms stray animals such as dogs and cows, who consume waste such as plastic and paper which harms their bodies. Third, it makes the streets look ugly, decreasing tourism. Fourth, litter also mixes with the soil to affect plant growth in a negative way. Waste mixes in the soil and prevents water from pouring down, hence decreasing the water supply for plants and trees.
It is important to not only keep our cities and country clean but also green. Indian cities rank among the top most polluted cities in the world. Increasing the green cover – a term used to describe the land covered by trees and plants– will increase the level of oxygen in the cities. Lately, various new measures such as plant walls and vertical gardens are used to improve beauty while adding oxygen to the air. Also, trees and plants are planted on the sides of the streets for a long.
Such creative measures are also good for the economy. They increase the beauty of a place, thus attracting more tourists and boosting the economy. They have also created demands for various items such as plants, pots, pot stands etc., thus creating jobs.
The Indian government has launched many initiatives and schemes promoting Clean India Green India, such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan– for the overall cleanliness of the country, Namami Gange (National Mission for Clean Ganga) Programme, Green Skill Development Programme, Toilets before Temples. Additionally, many Parliamentary acts have been passed to help increase green cover, such as the Compensatory Afforestation Act. However, the greatest impact can be produced only if the people of India behave responsibly.

A Clean India Green India Essay of 150 words is as follows
Our country is a beautiful country, with mountains, beaches, deserts, plains, rivers etc found in abundance. But, as a developing country, India produces a lot of waste. But some waste does not end up in the waste dumps, but on the streets. This is a result of careless behaviour by the people who litter on the streets and make the cities dirty. Such careless behaviour not only makes the streets unclean but tarnishes the image of India.
Keeping India Clean and Green helps us in many ways. It makes people healthy, increases hygiene, and increases beauty. Thus, we must do our bit to keep our cities and country clean and green. We must not litter around and plant more trees and plants. We must also use dustbins to throw waste and learn to differentiate between solid and liquid waste. India can become Clean and Green only when the citizens become responsible.

Clean India Green India Essay
- 100 Words Essay On Clean India Green India
Clean India and Green India are national programmes aimed at improving the country. In 2014, a campaign called "Clean India" was started—Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan or the Clean India Movement were the other names for this campaign. The programme was launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi by cleaning the streets. With numerous people taking part, this campaign was the biggest one ever. Garbage poses a serious danger to a country's growth and it is also a major threat to success in the modern economy. Industrialization and commercialization have only served to aggravate this issue. Therefore, as responsible citizens of this country, it is our responsibility and duty to do everything to keep our environment clean and green.
200 Words Essay On Clean India Green India
500 words essay on clean india green india.
Our carbon footprint has significantly grown since the Industrial Revolution. Greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide and other exhaust gases from cars and factories. Ironically, life depends on the greenhouse effect, which is a natural occurrence. If this phenomena didn't exist, the earth would swiftly lose heat and freeze. However, if substantial amounts of these gases continue to exist, the greenhouse effect will be amplified.
This may lead to an increase in global average temperatures and the melting of the polar ice caps. As a result, both individuals and the ecosystem suffer from this. The ecology may become unbalanced and endangered animals may go extinct. It can also have negative effects on the climate, often leading to loss of life and property destruction.
It is our duty to keep our surroundings clean, especially any public areas like parks, tourist attractions and restrooms. We should refrain from dumping trash everywhere, whether on the ground or in public spaces. Dustbins should be used in their place to maintain such areas clean. The ideal method to develop this habit is to launch a cleaning campaign in our home, kitchen, living space, and community. It is imperative that we preserve the natural splendour and purity of our surroundings before it is too late.
Clean India Green India is a nationwide effort launched by the Indian government. Mahatma Gandhi, father of the nation, also had a vision for a clean India. People are what make up a nation. Therefore, it is essential to alter public perceptions of the fight against sanitation. Change ought to be implemented logically. Budgets and programmes that prioritise Panchayats and rural communities' sanitation needs should be sufficient. Every Indian citizen should have the vision of a Clean India, Green India. The mission is the ideal development movement for India since it promotes sustainable growth in the nation.
Benefits Of Clean India Green India Campaign
We are less prone to get sick if we maintain ourselves and our surroundings clean. The unclean atmosphere around us promotes diseases like malaria, dengue fever, and others. We must maintain a clean, healthy atmosphere if we want to reduce our risks of becoming ill.
Cleanliness is beneficial to the mind—stress and despair are decreased. It keeps us energised and inspired.
The campaign has lessened open defecation by building individual, group, and public restrooms.
There has been a transform from the unsanitary restrooms into flush restrooms.
A promotion of healthy sanitation habits through behavioural changes and connecting people to sanitation and public health programmes has taken place.
People are now utilising solid waste disposal, reuse, and recycling techniques.
What We Can Do
So, the following are some methods that we use to go green and go clean—
Plastic is one of the main causes of environmental degradation, so it is crucial that we stop using it and replace it with materials based on wood in our houses. To lessen the impact of plastic on the environment, we must also use jute or paper bags rather than plastic ones.
We can always recycle and reuse objects to cut down on waste and pollution in the environment. For example, worn-out and discarded items can be utilised as décor and other things in homes and workplaces.
We can help save trees by printing on both sides of the page, utilising hand dryers in place of paper towels, and using reusable goods instead of toilet paper and throwaway towels. Additionally, we need to grow trees and other plants around our homes to maximise the amount of greenery there is.
We must utilise dustbins effectively if we are to achieve cleanliness. We should dispose of our trash in dustbins rather than on the roads and streets.
Awareness-raising campaigns must be performed in order to achieve community cleanliness and greenery. We must inform the public of the advantages of cleanliness and nature.
Since the Swachh Bharat Mission was established, many Indians have given cleanliness considerable consideration. People started doing daily cleanups of their surroundings and proper rubbish disposal. Additionally, Green India addresses the issue of climate change. The government wants to minimise greenhouse gases, which are the cause of climate change and global warming, by encouraging the growth of trees. In addition, the Indian government changed its energy and economic policies to be more environmentally friendly.

In fact, India has been classified as an “Air Pollution Capital” by the World Health Organization (WHO) on account of its high levels of particulate matter and ozone pollution. Despite this, India has made some progress towards reducing air pollution over the years, but there is still much work to be done. One way in which India can reduce air pollution is by implementing a clean energy program. This would involve using alternative forms of energy such as solar and wind power, which are both environmentally sustainable and affordable. Cleaning up India’s environment will not happen overnight, but it is essential that we start somewhere if we want to see real change for the better.

Essay on Clean India 400 + Words
Introduction
India is one of the world’s most populous countries, and with over 1.3 billion people, it’s also one of the most polluted. The sheer numbers speak for themselves: In India, approximately 84% of urban dwellers breathe air that is considered “very poor” in terms of quality by the World Health Organization. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, India also has one of the world’s largest waste-disposal problems. About 55% of the country’s solid waste ends up in landfills, where it takes up space and emits harmful pollutants into the atmosphere. All this pollution has serious consequences for both Indians and the environment as a whole. In this blog post, we will discuss some of the ways that you can help clean India and improve environmental awareness in general.
Pollution in India
Pollution in India is a problem that has been escalating for years. Air pollution, which can come from a variety of sources, including vehicles, factories, and construction sites, is now one of the most pressing environmental issues in India. According to the World Health Organization, air pollution is responsible for around 2 million premature deaths every year in India. In addition, it causes serious respiratory problems such as chronic bronchitis and pneumonia. In 2016, the Indian government announced that it would invest $2 billion over the next five years to address air pollution. One reason air pollution is so bad in India is because of the way people use cars and trucks. The country has a large number of vehicles, and they are all driven extremely fast. This means that they produce a lot of emissions when they’re on the road. Another big contributor to air pollution in India is industrial activity. Many factories and businesses use outdated technology that produces a lot of smoggy emissions. Construction sites also contribute to the problem by using heavy machinery and diesel-powered equipment
The Importance of Cleanliness in India
India is a country that is full of intricate culture and tradition. While many of these customs are admirable, they can also be quite dirty. A common practice in India is to greet someone by touching their feet. This may sound like a simple gesture, but it actually involves taking off your shoes and walking on someone else’s skin! Another common custom is burning incense in religious ceremonies. This smoke often contains harmful chemicals, which can lead to respiratory problems for participants and bystanders. It’s no wonder that India has one of the highest rates of air pollution in the world! In order to combat the high levels of air pollution, the Indian government has instituted policies designed to promote cleanliness. These policies include tax breaks for businesses that make their premises more environmentally friendly, subsidies for people who purchase energy-efficient appliances, and mandatory water filtration for businesses across the country. While these measures aren’t perfect, they are definitely making a difference. According to The Guardian, “The number of Indians living with Pollution Related Health Impacts (PRHIs) – from chronic bronchitis and lung cancer to heart diseases – has been reduced by half over past five years.” And while it won’t be easy to completely clean India up overnight, these policies are an important step in the right direction.
How to Achieve Clean India
Clean India is an ambitious and much-needed initiative by the Indian government to make the country clean and healthy. Launched in January 2014, Clean India pledges to make all of India’s 1.3 billion people healthy, providing them with access to education, employment, and reliable electricity. To date, the initiative has made impressive progress in achieving its goals. Many challenges remain, however. The country will require a sustained effort over many years to achieve full compliance with regulations and improve sanitation infrastructure. In addition, Clean India faces significant competition from other development priorities such as rural development and economic growth. Nonetheless, Clean India is a necessary first step on the path to making India a vibrant and prosperous democracy.
The History of the Indian Economy
India is one of the most populous countries in the world and has a rich history. India’s economy has grown rapidly in recent years, thanks to its large population and growing industrial sector. The Indian economy is dominated by services, with agriculture accounting for only about 5% of GDP. The main drivers of India’s growth are its continuing population growth and increasing demand for consumer goods and services. The country’s large market potential is being tapped by both domestic and foreign companies. The government has taken measures to boost the economy, including expanding infrastructure and promoting exports. However, there are concerns that the government’s focus on boosting growth without taking into account social welfare issues could lead to worsening inequality.
The Condition of the Rivers and Lakes in India
The rivers and lakes in India are facing a lot of problems that need to be fixed as soon as possible. The water bodies are polluted with chemicals, heavy metals, and other pollutants. They also suffer from over-exploitation and lack of maintenance. Some of the most polluted rivers and lakes in India are the Ganges, Yamuna, Krishna, Mahanadi, Cauvery, Godavari, Narmada, and Kaveri. These water bodies account for over 60% of the total pollution in India. The pollutants that are causing the water bodies to become unhealthy include pesticides, industrial waste, sewage effluents, and trash. One way to clean up these waterways is by using filters. However, this isn’t always feasible or affordable because of the costs involved. Another way is to create awareness about the condition of these waterways and start protesting against polluting industries. People need to be made aware that they can make a difference by lobbying their government officials.
Housing Conditions in India
India is one of the most populous countries on earth and its population is expected to reach 1.3 billion by 2050. In order to meet the increasing demand for housing, the government has been investing in new construction projects. But in order to ensure that these projects are effective and efficient, it is important to have a good understanding of housing conditions in India. The majority of Indians live in urban areas and, according to The Lancet Commission on Intestinal Health, they suffer from high levels of intestinal poverty. This means that they don’t have access to proper sanitation facilities or clean water and their homes are often overcrowded, unhealthy, and lacks basic amenities such as solar power or ventilation. In addition, Indians face a number of environmental challenges when it comes to housing. For example, their homes are often built near toxic waste dumps or industrial areas which can cause respiratory problems amongst the population. And finally, there’s also a lack of affordable land which means that many people are forced to live in cramped conditions or on streets without any kind of protection from the sun or rain.
Healthcare in India
The healthcare system in India is one of the most complex and outdated in the world. It is also one of the poorest, with only 54 percent of the population having access to basic healthcare. The average life expectancy in India is only 67 years, which is lower than any other country in the world. This high rate of poverty and low health coverage has led to a rise in preventable diseases such as malaria, diarrhea, and typhoid fever. There are several reasons for the poor health care in India. The most significant problem is that the country’s hospitals are overcrowded and understaffed. There are also not enough doctors or nurses to provide adequate care to everyone who needs it. Additionally, Indian healthcare costs are very high, which makes it difficult for people to afford treatment. There are some promising signs that things may be changing for the better for Indian healthcareprogress has been made over the last few years, but much more needs to be done in order to provide everyone with access to quality care. One way that this can be achieved is by increasing funding for healthcare initiatives and developing new ways of delivering healthcare services across rural areas.
Education in India
The education sector in India is one of the most important and sensitive areas of public policy. It has direct bearing on the welfare and well-being of people and it has a ripple effect on economic development, social stability, and peace. Infant mortality rate is one indicator of the quality and accessibility of health care facilities in a country, while literacy rates are measures of overall educational attainment. Education in India is often viewed as an essential part of achieving national aspirations. The government’s efforts to improve the quality of education have been marked by mixed results. While there has been a modest increase in the enrollment rate for children between 6 and 14 years old, progress has not been made in reducing the gap between boys and girls or among different socioeconomic groups.
The Indian Education System
India’s education system is an amalgam of traditional Hindu values with British colonial influences. The system was designed for a largely rural population who were not prepared for modern life. Today, India’s education system struggles to meet the needs of its rapidly growing population who are demanding access to higher education. The country has more students than available seats in universities and colleges, which has caused significant backlogs that have further restricted opportunities for some students. Institutions like IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) have been critical to India’s growth story as they provide excellent engineering education at very affordable rates compared to other countries in the world. However, with burgeoning enrollments, slots are now being reserved for mer
Poverty in India
India is one of the poorest countries in the world, with over a hundred million people living on less than $1.25 per day. Over half of these people live in poverty in rural areas, where lack of access to clean water and sanitation is particularly severe. India has made some progress reducing poverty since Independence, but it remains a huge challenge. The government has put a lot of effort into programs to reduce poverty, including providing free education and healthcare, creating jobs, and encouraging private enterprise. However, these programs are not enough to reach everyone who is in need. There are also many problems with these programs: they are often ineffective or corrupt, they do not reach all rural areas, and they can lead to income inequality. The government also needs to make more efforts to improve the conditions of poor people in rural areas. This includes improving access to clean water and sanitation, which would help prevent diseases like diarrhea that can lead to poverty and malnutrition. It also includes developing sustainable agricultural practices that can sustain communities over time, investing in renewable energy sources like solar and wind, and improving public transport so people can get to work without having to spend hours walking or riding motorcycles.
India is home to one of the world’s most populous countries, and with over two billion people living in it, there’s plenty of scope for improvement when it comes to sanitation and hygiene. Despite the progress that has been made in recent years, there is still a lot of work to be done before India can call itself clean. However, with determined effort from everyone involved- including governments, businesses and individuals- we can ensure that India achieves its ultimate goal: a healthy population free from preventable diseases.

Involving school children in the activities for spreading the awareness of sanitation, water and hygiene.
The campaign also aims to conduct open sessions and discussions on hygiene and menstrual health, along with the establishment of eco-wash clubs. Green India Mission Essay: The Green India Mission is the profound mission of the Government of India. It is the eighth mission which indicates the aim of the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC). The mission was launched in 2014 with a vision to plant more trees, improve forests, and fight climate change. Further, this mission wants to increase the forest in India from 21 percent to 22 percent of its land. It also helps India keep its promise regarding the global commitment to protect the environment.
Sample 1: Green India Mission Essay in 150+ words
The Green India Mission has revitalised the country’s forests. Initiated under the supervision of the Indian government, the project aims to make the nation greener and healthier. It combats climate change by planting more trees and preserving our green forests. The Green India Mission has several important goals. The first goal is to plant trees on bare land and make existing forests denser. This helps clean our air and provides animals with a safer habitat. Secondly, the mission creates jobs for people living near forests. Growing and selling forest products like herbs and fruit helps local people earn money for a balanced livelihood. The people engaged with the mission are busy planting millions of trees across the country. New parks are created, and streets are lined with trees under the mission. Rural areas are provided with assistance to help farmers grow trees along with crops. This method of smart farming, called agroforestry, gives farmers extra income and helps them protect their soil. The Green India Mission also aims to teach how to take care of forests. It helps villagers prevent forest fires and the illegal cutting down of trees. By involving local communities, the mission ensures that people understand the importance of forests in their lives and for the environment. |

Sample 2: Green India Mission Essay in 500+ words
The government of India started ¨Green India Mission¨ in 2014 to increase the cover of forest from 21.54 percent to 33 percent of its total land area. The mission is an integral part of the National Action Plan on Climate Change and aligns with profound global efforts to save the environment, such as the Paris Agreement. With an estimated budget of ₹46,000 crores (approximately $6.2 billion). The mission aims to transform the landscape of India over a 10-year period. Goals of the Green India MissionThe Green India Mission has several important goals. Let us look at what it wants to achieve: The motive behind the Green India mission is to increase the forest cover by 5 million hectares and improve the quality of the forest cover by another 5 million hectares. Here it should be noted that for perspective, the 5 million hectares are about the size of the country of Bhutan. The mission works to enhance the density of the existing forests. It also targets an increase from the current average of 0.5 to 0.7 tons of carbon per hectare per year. By 2020 the mission of ¨Green India Mission¨ aimed to improve ecosystem services like carbon sequestration by 100 million tonnes annually. The aim was successful in taking away a part and making the environment more sustainable. Yet another target of the mission is to provide direct benefits to 3 million forest-dependent households, focusing on sustainable livelihoods and the conservation of forests. Key Projects and Initiatives of the Mission To reach the goals of Green India Mission many different projects are running successfully across the country. In many states, the mission is organizing events like massively planting trees. Thousands of people come together to plant trees in a single day to make the event and mission successful. These events not only add more trees but also teach people about the importance of forests. Further, the mission also works with the villages to protect the nearby villages. This community-based forest management teaches the villagers how to take care of the forest and use its resources wisely. This method of protection helps the villagers as well as the forest mutually. Another exciting project that is running successfully under the Green India Mission is the creation of green corridors. These corridors are strips of forest that connect the larger forest areas. The implementation of the project helps the animals to survive safely between forests. Yet another lucrative sub-project of the Green India Mission is running successfully in the state of Uttarakhand. Here, the mission has helped in planting over 6 million trees. These newly planted trees have prevented the soil from washing away in the hilly areas and have also provided homes for many animals. Green India Mission not only helped the trees and animals, but it has also turned the lives of people far better. The mission helps to create jobs in rural areas by providing them with work in nurseries for growing young trees. This helps them fulfill their monetary needs and helps them connect with nature. Learning new skills like how to make products from forest materials, like basket making or preparing herbal medicine, makes them earn money while using the forest sustainably. The Green India Mission is the foundation of the environmental strategy of the Government of India. While there are still many challenges, comparatively, there has been more significant and impressive progress. As per the report of India State of Forest Report, there was a successful increase in the cover of the forest by 1,540 km between 2019 to 2012. With continuous effort and participation from all sectors, especially the youth, India is on the way to achieving further more ambitious targets. Achieving these targets will certainly contribute significantly to the global climate and livelihoods as well. |

Clean India Green India Essay (1000 Words)
Cleanliness is next to godliness . We all seek to have a clean environment as it helps us to be healthy and sound. We all must look over this issue, and it’s our utmost duty to keep our surroundings clean and healthy.
The government has played a pivotal role in achieving the goal of a clean environment and launched 2 national programs—”Clean India and Green India”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off this movement by cleaning the roads.
This campaign is commonly known as Swach Bharat Abhiyan or the Clean India Movement. The Green India campaign came into action on the recommendation of the Prime Minister’s council, and it mainly focuses on climate change issues.
Meaning of Clean India Green India
We are all aware of the famous proverb that cleanliness is next to godliness. But we never followed cleanliness properly.
Various benefits are associated with keeping the environment clean and healthy. A clean environment helps to save our endangered species from going extinct. We can breathe clean air in a clean environment.
Clean India Green India should become the dream of every Indian citizen. Many Indians have started to take cleanliness seriously with the launch of the Swach Bharat Abhiyan.
People have now started cleaning their surroundings and correctly disposing of the garbage. But still, we see that many of them are not taking this agenda very seriously.
The beginning of everything requires a kick start. One of the best ways to begin this drive is by cleaning our homes first. After that, we can collaborate with our immediate neighbours and clean the surroundings of our society.
Now the governments are also interfering in this programme. It has started to subsidise the cost of raw materials for the construction of raw materials.
Some steps must be taken by us in this regard:
- We should carry a recyclable bag when we move out of the house.
- Do not depend on those plastic non-recyclable bags . We should not throw garbage here and there.
- Focus on composting the kitchen waste at home, which will lower the garbage volume sent to landfills and also reduce the chance of some products becoming marine debris.
Clean India Campaign
The Clean India campaigns were launched in the year 2014 during Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. The clean India campaign is also known as Swach Bharat Abhiyan or Swachh Bharat Mission.
The government of India initiated this campaign to eliminate all open defecation. It also aims to improve solid waste management. This programme was launched with a lot of fanfare in the capital city of Delhi.
During the launching event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that cleanliness is a virtue that should be cultivated in every individual. In this event, he moved into a colony, which is the inhabitant site of the sanitation worker, and started to broom to clean a public place.
Clean India Healthy India
India is emerging as a world superpower. We are the largest democratic country in terms of population.
A few years back, Surat, a city in Gujarat, was badly affected and struck by the plague due to the rat-infested garbage heaps. After that incident, the town woke up, and today the city is very spicy and crowded.
In our Indian culture, we emphasise more on the purity of the mind than the purity of the cleanliness of the external environment.
That’s why uncleanliness is a major problem in India. And the people of India are not much worried about the uncleanliness. This uncleanliness is visible in both rural and urban places.
In today’s economy, garbage is the real threat to the development and prosperity of a nation. This problem has increased mainly due to commercialization and industrialization .
Plastic is the only one that makes significant chunks of the waste generated, and the disposal becomes hard.
To deal with these garbage-related issues, the Clean India Campaign was launched, which aims at resolving the problems related to garbage that we face in India. The prime minister’s council also approved green India’s mission climate change .
The main agenda of this Green India campaign is to combat climate change and its negative repercussions. The goal is achieved by planting a large number of trees in the forest and the town’s neighbouring areas to increase the rate of carbon dioxide sequestration.
In this way, the maximum amount of carbon dioxide is absorbed from the atmosphere and stored in the trees. This helps in reducing the carbon footprint on the earth.

Essay on Clean India 500 Words in English
We have provided Clean India Essay in English, suitable for class 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10.
“In a gentle way, you can shake the world”~ Mahatma Gandhi .
India is one of the most populated countries in this world. Because we live in a densely populated country, we must keep our society green and clean. Citizens of India should become more mindful of their actions. This way, our country will be healthy. Litter and waste can cause a serious threat to the environment we live in. It invites diseases and disrupts our lives. Improper waste disposal activities, combined with pollution , make us sick.
Moreover, it is the prime reason to destroy the aesthetic charm of a place. Thus, Clean India is what we need at the moment. Recently, there have been a lot of missions that have been undertaken by our government. The Clean India mission is one of them. In Hindi, it translates to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. It is certainly one of the most powerful campaigns India has ever witnessed. Here we are going to discuss the same in a detailed manner.
What is Swachh Bharat Abhiyan?
The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched by India’s Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi on 2nd October 2014 ( Gandhi Jayanti ). This scheme was launched in Delhi on this particular day as a token to honour Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of Clean India. This project is administered by the Indian Government. The intention behind it is to cover all the cities, towns and villages of India and keep them clean.
The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development is responsible for the drive. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has set a lot of goals and achieving these goals will lead towards a greener and cleaner India. Not only are the workers responsible for the cleanliness , but we as citizens must also equally contribute towards the plan. Overall, it is a great initiative that makes us aware of the impact of cleanliness.
Objective of Swachh Bharat Mission
The Clean India mission is one of a kind. It is the first such social movement that happened on a huge scale. The project initially covered 4041 cities and was expected to have a budget of over 1.96 lakh crore. One of the most important aims of it includes building toilets for every household. It also provides sanitation facilities to all the government schools, colleges, and public areas. It helps the municipalities of several areas to provide the people with fresh potable water.
To promote cleanliness, it has offered us with proper drainage systems, bathing facilities, hand pumps, etc. The problem of open defecation in rural areas is quite relevant. This mission wants to eliminate it for good. It helps to change the mindset of the public. When it comes to sanitation, people in our country neglect the waste and throw it outside. This only makes their locality dirty and unhygienic.
It wants to educate citizens about the proper management of household waste. The drive intends to keep the roads, bridges, public places, offices, and other infrastructure clean. A major part of it focuses on the cleanliness of the rivers and forests. The plan of cleaning the Ganga River (in Uttar Pradesh) came under this scheme.

How to Clean India?
If we compare India to the other nations, we realize how dire our country’s condition truly is. Thailand, for example, is contrastingly much cleaner. The attitude of the citizens plays a vital role in the transformation of a country. Thus, we need to have a mission that can eradicate filth and dirt from India. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a great cleanliness drive that considers our well-being. It enhances our living conditions.
Through its objectives, it helps strengthen public health. Since its initiation, we can notice that different places in a locality have been provided with waste collection bins. People serve to be the key to bringing a massive change of some sort. Together, we can make our country free of dirt and garbage in many ways. Some of these ways have been mentioned below:
- We can separate the dry and the wet wastes before discarding them from our homes.
- Segregation of waste (biodegradable, recyclable, and other waste) is very important. Do not ignore it. Most importantly, always throw the trash in the dustbin.
- Try to carry a recycled paper bag. If you don’t find a bin, you can keep the waste in this paper bag and later dump it in a bin.
- Reuse plastic items. Make something creative out of it.
- Prepare a compost pit at home. The plant waste from your kitchen and the dead leaves can be used for compost. This will act as excellent organic manure for the plants in your garden.
- Start using fabric bags instead of polythene. Always carry these to the market when you are shopping.
India will flourish if all Indians come together and play their part in this drive. No government scheme has ever been successful without the cooperation of the citizens. The Clean India Mission is an important issue that needs our active participation. A cleaner environment is essential to all of us. It is the first step towards prosperity.
A cleaner nation attracts more tourists, and this is a direct input to its economy. Moreover, if India is clean, we will be the first ones to be benefited from it. Devoid of diseases, our health will be promoted. Let us all do our part to take care of ourselves, our families, our friends, and our nation.

The mission was launched on . We all know this is also the birth date of our Bapu, i.e. , who also used to inspire people for cleanliness. Gandhi Ji once said, "Sanitation is more important than independence". These words of Gandhiji led the foundation for the Clean India Mission. Gandhiji not only fought for freedom but also encouraged people toward a clean country. We know that people usually tend to follow their leader; their leader is an idol for them. Open defecation can cause diseases as it pollutes the environment. Making toilets in rural areas could solve this problem, which is why the government is taking proper steps to make toilets. The government is also granting financial help to the people to make toilets. The success of this mission will bring a clean and healthy environment to the rural as well as urban areas. Our responsibility is to keep our surroundings clean, including in public places such as parks, tourist attractions and public toilets. We should avoid throwing garbage anywhere on the roads or in other areas. Instead, we should use dustbins to keep such places clean. The best way to generate this habit is that we should start a cleanliness drive in our house, kitchen, room and society. The situation and time demand are to protect the environmental beauty and purity of the surroundings before it is too late. The steps we can take is that when we go to the market, we do not use plastic bags but carry a bag that can be recycled and is not harmful to the environment. Plastics are something that may take hundreds or thousands of years to decompose. For example, a straw made of plastic takes around 200 years, a cup made of foam plastic takes approximately 50 years, and a plastic bottle takes about 450 years to decompose fully. It has been proved that Plastics are something our bodies cannot digest; the matter of concern is that plastics have entered the food chain. Most packaged foods use plastic bags because of their durability and strength. Likewise, plastics are also used for many other things. However, most of these plastics usually end up in the rivers or oceans, where they break into tiny particles and enter the heart of the food chain, i.e. And from there, through the food chain (such as seafood), it travels back to humans, which is very harmful to us and may cause cancer. Apart from this, if the plastic is thrown away or left on the soil, the cultivating characteristics of the soil deteriorate. Also, it can pollute the groundwater to some extent. Therefore, wastes should also be disposed of in the right manner. There is a need for a proper plan to reduce the pollution caused by the garbage, but more important is that we strictly implement or follow the agenda too. If India becomes cleaner and greener, it will not just be beneficial for us but our future generation also. According to scientists, the reason behind the was fleas and rats, which were infected with bacteria. The streets of were not clean, and as a result, the rats thrived in the streets of Europe. During that time, there were not even proper in many cities of Europe, and cleanliness was lacking. We must ensure that something like a plague never happens again, which is why the Clean India mission has been launched. was launched in February 2014. The mission was launched with a motive to protect, restore and increase India's decreasing forest cover. Along with that, this mission was launched as a response to climate change by combining adaptation and mitigation resources. Green India Mission, also known as National Mission for a Green India, was established under theIt is one of the eight missions launched under India's action plan for addressing the sudden climate changes. This mission recognizes the influence of a forest on the environment as well as on dependent communities. This mission has been launched for with an outlay of around National Mission for a Green India has some major goals; they are as follows- (MHA) along with maintaining the quality of existing green cover. by 50 to 60 million tons in the year 2020, including the hydrological services and biodiversity and provisioning services like fuel, fodder, and timber and non-timber forest produce. India's current forest cover is 75 million hectares; for the carbon sequestration target, 30 million hectares of additional land would be required. of scrub, cold deserts, abandoned mining areas, mangroves, shifting cultivation areas and ravines. However, in 2017-18, only around Rs. was allocated for the scheme, which is grossly insufficient. According to reports in 2015-16 and 2016-17, GIM missed its target by 34% as instead of the targeted 67,956 hectares, only 44,749 hectares of land got green cover. Under this mission, Afforestation was done with the aim of increasing the number of trees, but the soil and weather conditions were not considered. Also, were planted, which made environmental problems worse, resulting in droughts and biodiversity loss. Due to the a drastic increase in our can be seen. Industries and vehicles release gases like Carbon dioxide and other exhaust gases; these are called These gases are the primary reason behind the as they trap the heat from the sun. What is interesting here is that the greenhouse effect is also necessary for life and is a natural phenomenon. Without this effect, the earth would not be able to capture the heat and release it quickly, because of which the earth would freeze soon and not be suitable for life. But, if these greenhouse gases are present in large quantities in the earth's atmosphere, the earth would trap excess heat, resulting in a global temperature rise. The rise in the has many repercussions, like the melting of the Consequently, it will imbalance the ecosystem and cause endangered species to become extinct and a significant threat to human life. To avoid all these repercussions, it was necessary to launch a mission or a plan that helps not only India but the entire world as it is a topic of global concern. As a result of the need, Green India Mission was launched by the Indian government. You might wonder how this mission helps reduce the carbon footprint. As we discussed above, Green India Mission is about increasing the quantity and quality of forest areas in the country. Trees absorb the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through the process of and this is how it will help us in reducing the greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, which will result in the reduction of the greenhouse effect. Cleanliness is the introduction of purification in our lifestyle and the removal of impurities from our environment. For any nation, Greenness and cleanliness are vital to its development. The cleanliness and greenery of any country attract people from other countries to visit that country and enjoy nature. It not only increases the country's pride but also benefits it financially through increased tourism. The government has launched missions related to cleanliness and greenery. Still, now it is our responsibility to strictly implement necessary strategies in our lives and help our country in sustainable development. |

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Essay 400 words
The father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, had once said that “Sanitation is more important than Independence” during his time before the independence of India. He was well aware of the bad and unclean situation of India. He greatly emphasized cleanliness and sanitation to the people of India and their implementation in their daily lives. However, it was not so effective and was unsuccessful because of the incomplete participation of people. After so many years of independence, a most effective clean-up campaign is launched to call people for active participation and complete the cleanliness mission.
Launch of Swachh Bharat Campaign
The Former President of India, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, said in June 2014, while addressing the Parliament, “For ensuring hygiene, waste management, and sanitation across the nation, a Swachh Bharat Mission will be launched. This will be our tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary in 2019”. To fulfill the vision of Mahatma Gandhi and make India an ideal country in the world, the Prime Minister of India initiated a campaign called Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi (2nd October 2014). This campaign aims to complete the Mission by 2019, i.e., the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Importance of Swachh Bharat Campaign
Through this campaign, the Government of India solves the sanitation problems by enhancing waste management techniques. The clean India movement is completely associated with the country’s economic strength. The birth date of Mahatma Gandhi is targeted in both the launch and the completion of the Mission.
The basic goals behind launching the Swachh Bharat Mission are to make the country full of sanitation facilities and eliminate all people’s unhealthy practices in daily routines. The first cleanliness drive in India was started on 25th September 2014 and was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi by cleaning up the road.
Benefits of the Swachh Bharat Campaign
The completion of this Mission would indirectly draw the attention of business investors in India, enhance the GDP growth, draw tourists’ attention from all over the world, bring a variety of sources of employment, reduce health costs, reduce the death rate, and reduce lethal disease rate and many more. Clean India would bring more tourists and enhance its economic condition. The Prime Minister of India has requested that every Indian devote 100 hours per year to cleanliness in India, which is sufficient to make this country clean by 2019. Swachh Bharat cess is also started to get some funds for this campaign. Everyone has to pay an extra 0.5% tax (50 paise per 100 rupees) on all the services in India.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath also started a cleanliness drive in 2017 in Uttar Pradesh to ensure cleanliness in the official buildings. He has banned eating paan, gutka, and other tobacco products in government offices.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is one of the most important initiatives taken by the Government to make India shine in the world. But what it requires the most is the active participation of every individual irrespective of caste, creed, or religion. If we want our country to be respected and revered in the world, we should devote ourselves to this campaign by contributing to the cause and spreading awareness of the Swachh Bharat Mission. Then only the dream of Mahatma Gandhi could be achieved in a real sense.

Earlier, many awareness programs (such as the Total Sanitation Campaign, Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan, etc.) about environmental sanitation and personal cleanliness were launched by the Indian Government; however, they were not very effective in making India a clean India.

‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ or the ‘Clean India Mission’ should not only be the Government or the ministries; it is the responsibility of every citizen residing in the country. Achieving the goal of a clean India will never be possible until and unless we collaborate and join hands to clean our surroundings and stop others from making them dirty.
The participation and involvement of people in this campaign were huge. Also, they started showing positive results in recent times, but the most important thing is the continuation of this process. Let us pledge to continue doing our bit to make our surroundings and environment clean and green and make our country respected in the world.

The Government starts Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to make India an immaculate India. Clean India was a dream seen by Mahatma Gandhi, who once said, “Sanitation is more important than Independence.” During his time, he was well aware of the poor and dirty conditions of the country; that’s why he made various efforts to complete his dream; however, he could not succeed.
As he dreamt of a clean India one day, he said that cleanliness and sanitation are integral parts of healthy and peaceful living. Unfortunately, India is still lagging in cleanliness and sanitation even after 71 years of independence. According to the statistics, it has been seen that a very less percentage of the total population has access to toilets. It is a program run by the Government to seriously work to fulfill the vision of Father of Nation (Bapu) by calling people from all walks of life to make it a successful campaign globally.
This Mission has to be completed by the 150th birth anniversary of Bapu (i.e., 2nd October of 2019) in the next five years (from the launch date). It is urged by the Government to spend at least 100 hours a year on cleanliness in their surrounding areas or other places of India to make it a successful campaign. There are various implementation policies and mechanisms for the program, including three important phases the planning phase, the implementation phase, and the sustainability phase.

Swachh Bharat’s Mission must run continuously in India until it achieves its goal. India’s people need physical, mental, social, and intellectual well-being. It is to advance the living status in India in real means, which can be started by bringing all over cleanliness. - Improving the quality of life of people in rural areas is necessary.
- It is to bring sustainable sanitation practices by motivating communities and Panchayati Raj Institutions through the awareness programs like health education.
- It is to bring the dream of Bapu come true.
Swachh Bharat Mission in Urban Areas
The Swachh Bharat Mission of urban areas aims to cover almost 1.04 crore households to provide them with 2.6 lakhs of public toilets and 2.5 lakhs community toilets and solid waste management in every town. Community toilets have been planned to be built in the residential areas where the availability of individual household toilets is difficult and public toilets at designated locations including bus stations, tourist places, railway stations, markets, etc.
Cleanliness programs in the urban areas (around 4,401 towns) have been planned to be completed over five years till 2019. The costs of programs are set at Rs. 7,366 crores for solid waste management, Rs. 1,828 crores for public awareness, Rs. 655 crores for community toilets, and Rs. 4,165 crores for individual household toilets, etc.

Gramin Swachh Bharat Mission
Gramin Swachh Bharat Mission is a mission implementing cleanliness programs in rural areas. Earlier, the Government of India established the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (also called Total Sanitation campaign, TSC) in 1999 to make rural areas clean; however, now it has been restructured into the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin).
This campaign aims to free rural areas from open defecation until 2019. The estimated cost is one lakh thirty four thousand crore rupees for constructing approximately 11 crores and 11 lakh toilets in the country. There is a big plan to convert waste into bio-fertilizer and useful energy forms. This Mission involves the participation of gram panchayat, panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad. Following are the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin):
- To improve the quality of life of people living in the rural areas.

- To motivate local working bodies (such as communities, Panchayati Raj Institutions, etc.) to make available the required sustainable sanitation facilities.

Swachh Bharat-Swachh Vidyalaya Campaign
The Swachh Bharat Swachh Vidyalaya campaign is run by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development having the objective of cleanliness in the schools. A major program was organized under it from 25th September 2014 to 31st October 2014 in the Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalya Sangathan.
Lots of cleanliness activities were held, such as discussions over various cleanliness aspects in the school assembly by the students, teachings of Mahatma Gandhi related to cleanliness, cleanliness and hygiene topics, cleaning activities (in the classrooms, libraries, laboratories, kitchen sheds, stores, playgrounds, gardens, toilets, pantry areas, etc.).
The cleaning of statues in the school area, speech about the contribution of great people, essay writing competitions, debates, art, painting, film, shows, role plays related to hygiene including other many activities on cleanliness and hygiene were also conducted. It was also planned to hold a half an hour cleaning campaign in the schools twice a week involving cleanliness activities by the teachers, students, parents, and community members.
Swachh Bharat Cess
Swachh Bharat cess is an improvement in the service tax by 0.5% on all the services in India. The Finance Ministry started it to collect some funds from every Indian citizen for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to make it a huge success. Everyone has to pay extra 50 paise for every 100 rupees spent as service tax for this cleanliness campaign.
Another Cleanliness Initiative in Uttar Pradesh
Yogi Adityanath (Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh), in March 2017, banned the chewing of paan, paan masala, gutka, and other tobacco products (especially during duty hours) in government offices to ensure cleanliness. He started this initiative after his first visit to the secretariat annex building when he saw betel-juice-stained walls and corners in that building.
We can say Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a nice welcome step to make India clean and green by 2019. As we all heard about the most famous proverb, “Cleanliness is Next to Godliness, “we can surely say that the Clean India Campaign (Swachh Bharat Abhiyan) will bring godliness all over the country for years if the people of India follow it effectively.
So, the cleanliness activities to warm welcome godliness have been started, but they should not need to be ended if we want godliness in our lives forever. A healthy country and society need its citizens to be healthy and clean in every walk of life.
Cleanliness is next to Godliness Essay

One inspirational example for Indians can be Thailand. Thailand is a third world country just like India. However, in spite of being poor Thailand is still very clean. In contrast, India looks pretty dirty. The attitude of the people of India is to blame for that. In India, the unfortunate attitude is “make sure I am safe”. The attitude of Thai’s is – “make sure others are safe”.
In conclusion, clean India is a very important issue. Public awareness regarding it must certainly be spread. Clean India should be the rallying cry of the entire nation.
