India is the seventh largest country in the world. It lies to the north of the equator, between 804’ and 3706’ North Latitude and 6807’ and 97025’ East Longitude. India is spread over 3 million square kilometres of area and accounts for 20% of the world’s population. It is the fourth-largest economy and the fastest-growing free-market democracy. India shares its border with seven countries, which are Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar and Bangladesh. Sri Lanka and the Maldives are two countries that share water borders.

India is connected to the world with a vast network of 334 airports. It has the world’s second-largest rail network, which includes the most expensive trains like Maharajas’ Express, Palace on Wheels, The Golden Chariot, and The Deccan Odyssey. The road network of India is also well connected with the cities, towns and rural areas by expressways and highways.

In the western part of India lies the Great Indian desert. This place is a hot, dry and sandy stretch of land. It has very little vegetation. To the south of the Northern plains lies the Peninsular plateau. This region has numerous hill ranges and valleys. The rivers Narmada and Tapi flow through these ranges. These are west-flowing rivers that drain into the Arabian Sea.

To the west of the Western Ghats and the east of the Eastern Ghats lie the Coastal plains. The rivers Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna and Kaveri drain into the Bay of Bengal. These rivers have formed fertile deltas at their mouths. The Sunderban Delta is formed where the Ganga and Brahmaputra flow into the Bay of Bengal.

Two groups of islands also form part of India. Lakshadweep Islands are located in the Arabian Sea. These are coral islands located off the coast of Kerala. The Andaman and the Nicobar Islands lie to the southeast of the Indian mainland in the Bay of Bengal.

India is a well-known country in the entire world. Geographically speaking, our country is situated south of the Asian continent. India has a large population and is naturally well-defended from all sides. It is well-known around the world for its outstanding cultural and traditional characteristics. The most prominent mountain in the world, the Himalayas, reside here. Three large oceans surround it: the Bay of Bengal to the east, the Arabian Sea to the west, and the Indian Ocean to the south. India ranks second in the world in terms of population and is a democratic nation. Although Hindi is the official language of India, this country also has about 14 other official languages.

Location Of India

India is located in the Northern Hemisphere. It is a part of Asia, the seventh continent. As the seventh-largest nation in the world and is well-known among people of different countries. It extends approximately 3,287,263 square kilometres. Out of this region, forests cover 712,249 sq. km. Gandhinagar also holds the distinction of being Asia's greenest city.

The Indian subcontinent and its neighbouring countries, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, share various physical characteristics. India's topography divides the country into six distinct natural areas.

My favourite state in India is Rajasthan. Rajasthan has an illustrious past. It is renowned for its many valiant rulers and the art and architecture it produced. Because of its sandy route, this is where the nuclear test was conducted. Rajasthan offers a lot, including deserts, mountains, lakes, deep forests, beautiful oases, and temples. The name Rajasthan also describes to "Land of Sacrifice." In Rajasthan, you can visit Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Chittorgarh, etc., to see the heritage items left behind by all the kings who once governed the region. The capital of Rajasthan is Jaipur.

I live in India. Historically, India's reputation as a "Golden Bird" drew kings from other countries. We were introduced to other religions and cultures due to their arrival in India and subsequent dominance over us. Today, India houses people of different religions and cultures and we are part of this diverse and multicultural country. All of these religions have enriched our diversity by bringing with them various cultural and religious beliefs.

We were dominated by the British for a long time, and India attained independence in August 1947. Every year on August 15, we commemorate our independence.

Our crafts, music, and arts are all the best there are. This country has numerous well-known art forms, including Kathak dance in the north and Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Kathakali in the south. Similarly, two styles of music are famous here; one is called Karnataki music, and the other is called Hindustani music. It is amazing. Our literature, handloom, craft, etc., all have an unmatchable flavour.

The Indian national flag has three colours:-

Saffron, the primary and topmost colour in the flag, symbolises purity. White, the centre colour of the flag, represents peace and is the second colour. Green, which is the third and bottom-most colour on the flag, symbolises fertility. Blue Ashoka Chakra is painted on a white background. There are 24 evenly spaced spokes in the Ashoka Chakra. 29 states and seven union territories make up India.

India is rich in biodiversity. Our culture is what instils in us a genuine respect for both plants and animals. A large cultural group encourages the worship of a wide range of plants and animals, which aids in protecting them. This explains why India has the highest concentration of tigers. 54 animal sanctuaries and more than 100 national parks are found in India. Some creatures, including Bengal Tigers, Elephants, Rhinos, and Lions, are found in India. Having such immense biodiversity is excellent.

Dosa is one of my favourite Indian dishes. I love eating dosa, and it is one of my favourite breakfast foods. Dosa is believed to have originated in the town of Udupi. Though it is traditional food in the south of India, Dosa is hugely popular in other parts of the country as well. The dosa is frequently referred to as the Indian continent's pancake. Dosa was initially thicker and softer in Tamil Nadu than it was in Karnataka. I enjoy preparing the fermented batter for Dosas with rice and black gramme as the key ingredients. I like to eat Dosa with chutney and sambar.

India is the most significant contemporary democracy in the world and is renowned for its rich culture and history. All areas of space, research, education, and technology development in my country are advancing swiftly. My country continued despite going through a lot of sacrifices to gain independence. India is getting ready to become a worldwide force and I am so proud of it. I wish all my fellow citizens prosperity and happiness.

Problems of India Today

Today I’d say, India is a conglomeration of problems galore; some problems are of an indigenous nature while some others are imported. Some of our problems defy all solutions, at least for the present; some can be solved but are not allowed to be done so. While still some others can be very simply solved with just a little bit of thinking. Thus, India today is a kaleidoscopic picture of problems many.

Let us first consider some of the indigenous problems, i.e. problems of our own creation. This quality of problems is found in all spheres of our existence, political, social, national, and international. On the political side, our main problem is that for the last fifty years India has a continuity of not only a bad Government but, absolute lack of governance. This problem is of an indigenous nature as rules are ours, Constitution is ours, the ruled are ours, and the rulers are ours, yet, there is a complete lack of governance. For this misfortune, the reasons are not far to seek. The rulers have lost the caliber and character through the last few decades and the decadence of the Government has taken its toll. Besides, the rulers are not only incapable but are also corrupt. All these years, the Government has only meant biting into the public exchequer. Those who are in top positions are busy making money and this has meant the money-making spree spread to the lowest level of the working class. So, this problem of our own making has resulted in complete decadence of the Government machinery and absolute halt of the Government machinery. There is not a single department of the Government that is not flourishing on double and triple incomes.

On the social front, we have created havoc for ourselves. In our craze for going the Western way, we have destroyed our biggest social asset of the past ages-the family. India has been known throughout the world for its most lovable institution — the family, in which the elders found solace and the children found a fountain of love. In our attempt to modernize we have ourselves dealt a death blow to our institution of the family. Elders are no more a part of the family; they are just discarded people to be dispensed with, at an earlier opportunity. While the children of the family, who have always been the apple of the eyes of the elders are now seen languishing in crèches, from the tender age of one year or two years. The commendable strides we have taken in the education and upliftment of women have rendered the little child bereft of love and care of a mother.

In society, we already had ills like the system of dowry, sati , treatment of women as slaves, and, with our own hands we have added another evil of the breakup of the family, in our zest to import problems which were never ours. Education of women has undoubtedly given our women more liberty, knowledge, and jobs but it has cost us very dear. In this bargain, we also created a new, never-talked-of section in our society. The section of senior citizens. Senior citizens always existed with the younger generation of any given time but never were they a problem for the society at any time. On the role and position of senior citizens. a number of debates are being held, and the problem defies all solutions. This is because the problem is alien to us. This problem is also an offshoot of imports from the Western world.

In our society, the stigma of belonging to the Scheduled Class still remains, though it is an indigenous problem, we have added to its magnitude by our zeal for providing equality for all. The equality never came but the Scheduled Class has become a pampered lot, always on the demanding side and adding to the country’s problems. This class has become such a problem that by being pampered, they have started feeling that, they can ask for anything and get away with it, and if their demands are not met, they know that they can hold the country to ransom.

On the social horizon, our population belies all solutions. Whenever this problem is taken up seriously, it causes hiccups to all and sundry. If this continues, I think by the first decade of the 21st Century we will find it impossible to cope with the multi-crore populations.

Besides this, the society in India is very sharply divided between the Haves and the ‘Have Nots’. With all the wealth of the country getting so accumulated in a few hands the rest of the populace find it difficult to even make two ends meet. Such a magnum gap is not visible between “Haves’ and ‘Have Nots’, anywhere else in the World. On the economic front, India has numerous problems the very obvious being the distribution of wealth which is too uneven for the feeling of any general progress. We are in debt, our economy is running in deficit and our trade has come down.

With these enormous though basic problems to be solved, we have several small ones to be solved. These are not very much less than the magnum problems just mentioned. Our education is shockingly lacking in quality and quantity. The education is lopsided and not at all suitable for the country. This education leads us on to another major problem, one of unemployment in the country. The unemployed youth besides being frustrated to create another Herculean problem i.e. of drug addiction, then producing robbers, and terrorists, and smugglers. All these are taken up mostly in place of a job, which they fail to secure.

Together with these problems at home, we are not too comfortably placed in our relations with our neighbors. Pakistan, an organ from India’s body only, is forever ready for about with India, with its guns forever targeting India. China and Ceylon are also not very much friendlier with us.

We find some solace in the midst of this storm of problems in our growth of Scientific and Technology fields. However, here also, our progress is held to ransom by the corrupt officials involved in the various projects. We import sophisticated machines only for the people involved in purchases to make some money. These machines lie idle and are allowed to become junk, as, we do not have the know-how or the will to get them to work. This problem I would say we have imported for, if we cannot deal with an item and use it to the optimum we should not at all import it, and then just make it into junk.

Above all these problems is India’s biggest problem, one of the complete bankruptcies of character and morals. This is a problem which is. I feel a mixture of the indigenous and the imported problems. It is of our own making to some extent, and the glitter of the West has added fuel to the fire of our ambitions. This country which was once known for its sages is now known as being one of the toppers in corruption.

Looking at the medley of problems in India’s kitty today, whether of Indian origin or of import quality, we see that India is not in a very enviable position. Most of the problems just discussed I feel are at a stage of defying all solutions. This is because the people who matter have allowed these problems to become magnum. This must have been to their benefit which is why the problems were allowed to grow. Moreover, seeing the typical Indian psyche I feel that since we are not united, no problem can be discussed threadbare and a solution sought. It is not that there are no solutions but it is that we have so many diverse interests that all solutions become impractical-Diverse views with no malleability, problems remain insoluble, and thus the future remains bleak.

We can only hope to solve these problems if we forget ourselves and intelligently work together towards the benefit of the Nation only. Only by doing so, from the labyrinth, we can seek an oasis of relief and happiness. It will also do a lot of good if, for at least for some time; we stop ogling at the west and try to sincerely improve ourselves. Then, I am sure we will be able to solve even the most insoluble problems. For this goal, we have to sacrifice ourselves to improve ourselves and only think of what is good and relevant for India’.

Except for technological progress, I do not think we at all need to look at the west, for this peculiar admixture of East and West is converting us into a heap of real nothingness. Let us all tighten our girdles and sit together to solve the basic problems that India has to face. We should not only debate upon them, and forget about them, there should be constant follow-up action and monitoring of whatever we do.

A consortium led by Blackstone, with Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) and GIC of Singapore, submitted a non-binding bid late last week to acquire a controlling stake in Haldiram Snacks Food (HSFPL), said people aware of the matter.

India and Iran signed a 10-year contract on Monday for the management of Chabahar port, putting the seal on what’s envisaged as a gamechanger in regional connectivity, rivalling China’s Belt and Road Initiative and being an alternative to Gwadar port in Pakistan.

IndiGo, India’s largest airline, is in talks with ATR, Embraer and Airbus as it looks to order at least 100 smaller planes as it plans to widen its regional network.

• The first and foremost thing to do is to read the questions properly. Often, students miss out on important details due to a lack of focus. Paying attention to each and every piece of information and reading with attention is crucial.
• After reading the question, try to predict the answer without referring to the given options. This increases your chances of selecting the correct answer through educated guessing.

Lok Sabha Election 2024 Live Updates, May 14, 2024: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Monday asserted that INDIA bloc will form the government at the Centre after June 4 results. Speaking at a roadshow in Haryana, the AAP supremo said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has never kept up with his guarantees while Kejriwal has fulfilled all the guarantees he had offered to the Delhi people. “Now I am giving you Kejriwal’s guarantee the INDIA bloc will form the government at the Centre after June 4.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday hinted at the Congress not being happy about the BJP government’s initiative to constructRam Temple in Ayodhya and said that its leaders speak about sending “Ram Lalla back to tent”. Addressing a rally in Jharkhand’s Giridih, Modi said: “Congress leaders talk about sending Ram Lalla back to tent.” Earlier in the day, PM Modi filed his nomination from Varanasi seat. The PM started his day by offering prayers at Dasaswamedh Ghat in the constituency, following which he visited the Kal Bhairav temple. The Varanasi seat will go to polls in the seventh and last phase of the Lok Sabha elections on June 1.

Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is scheduled to hold a rally Tuesday at Chauri Chaura near Gorakhpur in UP. Senior leaders of the SP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), who are the Congress’s INDIA allies, are also expected to address the rally. Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav will also address rallies in Jalaun and Jhansi on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi early Tuesday offered prayers at Dasaswamedh Ghat in Varanasi, ahead of filing his nomination papers from the constituency for Lok Sabha elections 2024. 

He also boarded a cruise ship at the ghat.

PM Modi to file nomination papers in Varanasi today, security tightened

Security was tightened in Varanasi outside the District Magistrate’s office ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to file his nomination papers on Tuesday.

The PM will visit and offer prayers at the Kal Bhariav temple and Dasaswamedh Ghat in the constituency, news agency  ANI reported.

He will also take a dip in the Ganges before filing his nomination papers. The Varanasi seat will go to polls in the seventh and last phase of the Lok Sabha elections on June 1.

Sushil Kumar Modi: The man behind BJP’s rise in Bihar, was shaped by JP movement

Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi died Monday night at AIIMS, New Delhi. He was 72.

The veteran leader was battling cancer for the past eight months. Hospital sources said he breathed his last at 9.45 pm.

In his condolence message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Sushil Modi played an invaluable role in the rise and success of the BJP in Bihar. “Strongly opposing the Emergency, he made a name for himself in student politics. He was known as a very hardworking and sociable MLA. He had a deep understanding of the issues related to politics. He also did a lot of commendable work as an administrator. His active role in the passage of GST will always be remembered,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.

Bracing for a formidable fight against top Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP’s candidate and state minister Dinesh Pratap Singh is also facing some discontent in the ruling party’s local camp, which has made his challenge tougher.

Sulking due to their own separate issues, BJP MLA from Rae Bareli Sadar, Aditi Singh, and the rebel SP MLA from Unchahar, Manoj Kumar Pandey, are fighting shy of campaigning for Dinesh in the constituency. Both are thus giving a tough time to the BJP in mounting a vigorous campaign in Rae Bareli, which has been a traditional Nehru-Gandhi bastion.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday filed his nomination papers from the Varanasi parliamentary seat for the Lok Sabha elections. PM Modi, who first contested from Varanasi in 2014 as NDA's prime ministerial candidate, is seeking a third consecutive term from the seat, where voting will be held on June 1 in the seventh and final phase of the election.

On Tuesday, when PM Modi went to the Varanasi district collectorate to file his nomination, he was accompanied by the who's who of the BJP. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and BJP chief JP Nadda were among the leaders who were seen with the Prime Minister.

PM Modi was also accompanied by his four proposers -- Pandit Ganeshwar Shastri, Lalchand Kushwaha, Baijnath Patel and Sanjay Sonkar. A proposer must be a registered elector of the Assembly or Parliamentary constituency for which he or she endorses a candidate’s nomination.

Like in 2014 and 2019, PM Modi's four proposers come from different backgrounds and social groups.

Pandit Ganeshwar Shastri is a Brahmin who ascertained the auspicious time for the consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. While Lalchand Kushwaha is an OBC, Baijnath Patel is a volunteer for the RSS who also belongs to the OBC community.

Another proposer is Sanjay Sonkar, who is from the Dalit community.

On April 26, 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi submitted his application from Varanasi. An agriculturalist, a former Mahila Mahavidyalaya principal at BHU, an RSS member, and the chief cremator of the Varanasi ghats were among the PM Modi's proposers.

Annapurna Shukla was one of the proposers of PM Modi's candidature. She was a noted academician and a former Mahila Mahavidyalaya principal at BHU. Professor Annapurna died in September 2023.

Subhash Gupta was another proposer, who is a BJP worker since the inception of the party.

The other two proposers were Jagdish Chowdhary, a member of the Dom Raja family who helps in performing the last rites, and Dr Ramashankar Patel, a veteran agricultural scientist from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi won the Varanasi parliamentary seat by 4,79,505 votes. He defeats Samajwadi Party candidate Shalini Yadav.

On April 24, 2014, NDA’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi filed his nomination papers from Varanasi.

Madan Mohan Malaviya's grandson Giridhar Malaviya was one of the proposers of Narendra Modi's candidature. Giridhar Malaviya is a retired judge of the Allahabad High Court.

Another proposer was Padma Vibhushan and noted classical singer Pandit Chhannulal Mishra.

The other two proposers were Virbhadra Nishad, a boatman, and Ashok Kumar, who belongs to the weaver community.

In 2014, Narendra Modi won the Varanasi parliamentary seat by 3,71,784 Votes. He defeats AAP candidate Arvind Kejriwal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a massive roadshow in his Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency as cheering supporters waving saffron flags lined the streets of one of India's holiest cities on Monday. PM Narendra Modi, who is seeking a third consecutive term from the Varanasi seat that will go to polls on June 1 in the seventh and last phase of the Lok Sabha election 2024, will also file his nomination papers on Tuesday, May 14 .

PM Narendra Modi in Varanasi: Key points

• On Tuesday, PM Narendra Modi will file his nomination papers after offering prayers at the Kaal Bhairav temple. He may also offer prayers at the Dashashwamedh Ghat on the banks of the Ganga around 9am, a BJP statement issued in Lucknow said. • According to the itinerary, Modi may also take a cruise trip to the Namo Ghat in Varanasi ahead of filing nomination papers. Following the nomination process, the prime minister will hold a meeting with BJP workers at the Rudraksha Convention Centre.

• A BJP leader told HT that chief ministers of 12 BJP-ruled and alliance states, including UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, are likely to be present when Modi files his nomination. In photos: PM Modi holds mega roadshow in Varanasi day before filing nomination
• Besides, several Union ministers, including defence minister Rajnath Singh and home minister Amit Shah, and presidents of various National Democratic Alliance (NDA) allies are also expected to be in Varanasi on the occasion, the BJP leader added. Modi is likely to take a bath in the Ganga.
• BJP insiders said those likely to be present at Modi's nomination include Yogi Adityanath, his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav, his Chhattisgarh counterpart Vishnu Deo Sai and Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde. Besides, Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, his Assam counterpart Hemanta Biswa Sarma, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini, his Goa counterpart Pramod Sawant, Sikkim chief minister Prem Singh Tamang and his Tripura counterpart Manik Saha will also be there.
• On Monday, surrounded by a sea of saffron, Modi's cavalcade covered a distance of six kilometres after which he reached the Kashi Vishwanath temple and offered prayers. The roadshow began from the Malviya Chauraha in Varanasi's Lanka area.
• People from different communities, including Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Maheshwari, Marwari, Tamil and Punjabi, welcomed Modi at 100 points in 11 zones marked out on the roadshow route.
• BJP district secretary Shivanand Rai and other party workers offered a saree to Ganga river on Monday for the well-being and longevity of the prime minister in Varanasi. In the ceremony, a 400-metre-long saree was offered to the River Ganga as part of the ritual.
• Varanasi is the stronghold of the BJP and Modi. He won the seat twice- the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Modi won the seat with over 674,664 votes and commanded a vote share of 63.6 per cent. In 2014, Modi had contested two Lok Sabha seats- from Gujarat's Vadodara and Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi.
• The Congress has pitted Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai against Modi in Varanasi. This is the third time Ajay Rai will face Modi in a Lok Sabha contest.
