Expository Essay: Outline
Directions:
Please review your Topic 3 readings and the “Planning and Getting Started” section of “The Writing Process” media piece.
Fill in the outline and references sections below. Use a minimum of three peer reviewed resources to support your subtopics (one resource per supporting paragraph). Make sure to use complete sentences when completing the outline.
Expository Essay Topic: three issues found in larger classroom
Essay title: why larger classroom is bad, i. introduction: (begin with a hook sentence to capture your audience’s attention, then provide a brief background of the topic and end with your.
thesis statement.) a. Hook: How do you feel about being in a larger classroom?
b. Additional background information: A lot of students don’t like being in bigger classrooms because it is harder for them to learn, and some do like it because they are fast learners and learn in any environment. Some students need fewer people in a class, so the teacher has more time to come around and help if they are slow learners, and nothing is wrong with that.
c. Mapped Thesis statement (review Topic 3 DQ1 for feedback from instructor): In a more extensive classroom you have more problems than in a smaller classroom.
II. Support
Supporting point #1 (subtopic 1): _why smaller classes are better. __________________.
a. Topic sentence for this first sub-topic: Smaller classrooms are better environments to learn in because your teacher has more time at the end of the class to help you if you need it, you have time to ask questions during the lesson, and you get more information in.
b. Two to three paraphrased supporting details from your research with in-text citations Supporting paraphrase 1: Small classrooms help with the quality of teaching, how much they cover in that class, and the time and space they have.
Supporting paraphrase 2: In smaller classrooms, it is harder for kids to hide and get left behind, so they have more time to get the teacher's attention if needed and they also can take part in discussions to express their opinion.
Supporting Point #2 (subtopic 2): different learns in school __________________
a. Topic sentence for this second sub-topic: doesn’t matter if you are in a small or big class each student learns differently, so some learn better depending on the class size and depending on other things.
b. Two to three paraphrased supporting details from your research with in-text citations Supporting paraphrase 1: In large classrooms, students tend to interact with people they know and it’s easy for them to form little cliques and not really pay attention in class like that.
b. Summarize main points: Smaller classes would be better in school because you can learn better, ask more question, and have more time with your teacher than if you was in a larger classroom you would have no time for all of that.
