Other Information/ Instructions

• Validity of OBC-NCL Certificate: The OBC-NCL certificates uploaded/ submitted by the OBC-NCL candidates must be issued on or after April 01, 2020. Any OBC-NCL certificate issued before April 01, 2020 is treated as invalid.
• Validity of Income & Asset Certificate for EWS: To avail benefit of reservation under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), the candidates should upload/ submit a copy of Income and Asset Certificate (of last financial year) issued on or after April 01, 2020. Any Income and Asset certificate issued before April 01, 2020 is treated as invalid.
• Reimbursement of Travel Fare by Train: For attending PhD interview, the Regular Category candidates shall be provided reimbursement of travel expenses at the rate of to-and-fro sleeper class railway fare or equivalent (as per IIT Guwahati's travel reimbursement rules). Not applicable as all the interviews are to be held online because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
• Limiting Number of Candidates for the Selection Process: The Institute reserves the right to call a limited number of candidates for written test and/or interview/ portfolio review, if required, based on performance in GATE/ NET/ CEED/ INSPIRE, grades/ marks in the qualifying degree examination, etc.
• Candidates who are in Final Semester of Qualifying Degree: Candidates still to appear in their qualifying degree examinations may also apply, provided they appear in all their qualifying degree examinations and complete all requirements for their degrees before 15-07-2021. If selected, such candidates shall be admitted provisionally, and they will have to furnish the results of their qualifying degree examinations latest by 30-09-2021 (REVISED). The document verification of students will start in due course . Further, they must fulfill the minimum requirements of marks/CPI, and other conditions like valid GATE score/CEED score/NET or INSPIRE certificate (as may be applicable) etc., as mentioned under eligibility criteria for respective programmes. Failure to fulfill any of these requirements, shall automatically result in cancellation of admission.
• Cautionary Note: The above information is not the complete set of Rules & Regulations for the PhD programmes of IIT Guwahati.
• Medical Insurance: Students of IIT Guwahati are covered under the Group Medical Insurance Scheme (GMIS) up to a maximum limit of rupees one lakh only. Claims under GMIS will be applicable for new students with effect from 1 August, 2021 only.
• Legal Jurisdiction: The Courts at Guwahati alone shall have the jurisdiction to settle and decide all matters and disputes related to the above referred admission process.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for assistantship in Ph.D. programs across all disciplines, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Possess a Master’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Medical Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, or Pharmacy in a relevant area, with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of either 6.0 or 60% of marks.
• Hold a four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Medical Sciences, or its equivalent in a relevant area, with a minimum CPI of either 7.0 or 70% of marks.
• Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests – UGC NET, including lectureship (Assistant Professorship), and GATE.
• The selection process includes National level examinations conducted by MHRD and its associated agencies and institutions such as UGC/IIT/IISc./IISER/IIIT, etc. For a more detailed overview of eligibility criteria, please visit the University Website.

Eligible candidates can apply online exclusively through the official website at https://www.iitg.ac.in . Applications must be submitted online, and you have the option to apply to multiple departments/centers using the same login. However, an application fee must be paid separately for each department/center. It is recommended to carefully review all instructions for filling out online forms on the official website before applying.

The Institute reserves the right to shortlist a limited number of candidates based on their performance in GATE/NET/CEED, grades/marks in the qualifying degree examination, and other educational qualifications, starting from Class 10. For Ph.D. programs, the shortlisting and selection may be carried out on a specialization basis by the respective department/school/center.

The selection process includes assessing candidates through written tests and/or interviews conducted in various stages, with the mode (offline/online/hybrid) being determined by the respective department/school/center. Welcome to the PhD (Autumn Session) Admission site for the academic session 20 2 3 -2 4 for the PhD Programmes of G auhati Uiversity. 

The admission to the PhD Programmes at GU is a highly competitive process and prospective PhD applicants need to go through the Central Application Process ( CAP ). General Information & GURET

Prospective applicant can apply for PhD in the available disciplines. Majority of the subjects in which a student can do a PhD at GU are closely linked to one or more departments. An applicant can select a maximum of two options to appear in the eligibility examination known as GU Research Eligibility Test or simply   GURET in two disciplines.

Application fee is ₹. 20 00.00 ( two thousand) per subject (the bank transaction fees , if any are not included) .

All applicants (irrespective of any exemptions) MUST go through the CAP and pay the CAP fee after successful completion of the CAP .  Without the remittance of this fee, you will not be able appear in the GURET 20 2 3 . The fee should be paid through online payment gateway only.

GURET 20 2 3 (GU Research Eligibility Test 202 3 ) is the first screening test after the Central Application Process (CAP) for admission into the PhD Programmes of GU, unless an applicant qualifies for an exemption.

The candidates who have completed their bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology, and architecture with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD candidates) are eligible for the M. Tech programmes.  The candidates who have completed their master’s in science and other equivalent degrees with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD candidates) can also apply for these programmes.  They must also have a valid score in GATE.

The selection is done on the basis of GATE scores. The performances in the written test and personal round interview are also considered while creating the merit list.

To seek IIT Guwahati admission 2023 for M. Tech courses, the candidates must know all the details related to the admission process. Four specialisations are offered by IIT Guwahati for MSc. programmes. They include Mathematics, Computing, Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry. 

Eligibility Criteria For IIT Guwahati Admission (MSc) : The candidates who have completed their BSc. and have scored well in the IIT JAM entrance test can apply for MSc in IITG.

Eligibility Criteria For IIT Guwahati Admission (M. Des)

The candidates who have a 4-year bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Design, or Interior Design can apply for this course if they have secured at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).  The candidates who want to pursue this degree as a part-time course must possess at least 2 years of work experience in the related field. 

Selection Criteria For IIT Guwahati Admission (M. Des)

The IIT Guwahati course admission for M. Des. course is done on the basis of CEED score.

The candidates who have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in any discipline with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD candidates) can apply for this course. Those who are in the last year of their graduation may also apply. Such candidates will be given a provisional admission. Final admission is only provided if they fulfil the required eligibility criteria after the final year’s exam.

IIT Guwahati Cutoff 2023 For MBA : IIT Guwahati cutoff for 2023 has not been released yet. However, candidates that fall in the 80 to 90 percentile rankings are expected to be selected for the final rounds.

Eligibility Criteria For IIT Guwahati Admission ( M.S. + PhD )

For non-IIT candidates, the requirement is 70% marks or 7.5 CPI with the required GATE score in any subject. For IIT candidates, the CPI should be above 7.0 but below 8.0 if the candidate has the required GATE score in any subject. If the CPI is 8.0 or above, the GATE score is not required.

IIT Guwahati Admission 2023 Highlights

• The deadline for online submission of the Application Form for the MBA programme has been extended until 05:00 PM on February 28, 2023.
• Applications are open for the Special PhD programme for UGC/CSIR-JRF. Interested candidates can apply through the Application Portal. The selections for the programme will take place in March 2023.
• The closing of the Application Portal for the Special PhD programme is 05:00 PM on March 02, 2023. 
• IIT Guwahati MBA Admission: IIT Guwahati has invited applications from eligible candidates for admission to MBA programmes for the session starting in July 2023.

IIT Guwahati B.Tech. & B.Des. Admission 2023 

IIT Guwahati offers BTech and BDes programme at UG level for the duration of four years. Admission to BTech programme is done through candidate merit in JEE Main and JEE Advanced exam followed by JoSAA counselling. Admission to BDes programme is based on UCEED score. 

Admission through UCEED in IITG

Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) is an entrance exam conducted for admission in Bachelor of Design (BDes) programmes.   UCEED exam is conducted by IIT Bombay under the guidance of the UCEED-CEED Implementation Committee every year in online mode for the duration of three hours. Merely appearing for the UCEED exam or securing a spot in the UCEED rank list does not guarantee admission in BDes programmes. The merit list is prepared on the basis of candidates' score in the written entrance exam.

IIT Guwahati MTech Admission 2023 

Admission through gate in mtech programme.

Graduate Admission Test in Engineering or GATE is a national level entrance exam conducted to offer admission in various Technology and Engineering programmes. GATE 2023 will be conducted by IISc Bangalore and seven IITs (Delhi, Bombay, Kanpur, Guwahati, Madras, Kharagpur and  Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board. Candidates must have qualified GATE exam for admission in Master’s programme and direct Doctoral programme. Many Public Sector also accepts GATE score for their recruitment process. 

IIT Guwahati PG Admission 2023

Admission through JAM in IIT Guwahati

IIT Joint Admission Test for MSc, also known as IIT JAM is an all-India level online entrance exam conducted by Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). This exam is conducted every year on a rotational basis on behalf of Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 55% aggregate (50% for SC/ ST/ PwD category candidates) for eligible in this entrance exam.

Candidates can follow below steps to apply for offered courses at IIT Guwahati:

• On the official website, candidates need to select their preferred course and click on the link ' Click here to apply. '
• Registration will be required to login and then proceed to fill the form. 
• Applicants need to fill or update the application details by clicking on appropriate arrows.
• Once the information is given or updated, they need to click on either save/submit button so that the data will be stored in the system.
• Applicants need to pay the Application Fee through SBI-Collect.

• Institute Merit-cum-Means Scholarships (McM) : McM is awarded to students of B.Des/ B.Tech/ MA/ M.Sc on the basis of the Merit (Up to 25% of the non-SC/ST). It covers a fixed monthly stipend for a period of eight months and also tuition fee waiver
• Institute Merit Scholarship (IMS) : The IMS scholarship is available for B.Des/ B.Tech/ M.Sc/ M.A students of the institute. IMS is awarded to every stream -  year-wise class toppers. It also involves a tuition fee waiver and a monthly stipend for a period of eight months.
• SC/ ST Scholarship : It is awarded to all the students of B.Tech/ B.Des/ MA/ M.Sc students of SC/ ST categories. It includes a monthly stipend for a period of eight months, free messing (the basic menu) and a hostel rent waiver. Tuition fee is also waived for all SC/ST students by the statutes
