Paul Walker

Paul Walker

(1973-2013)

Who Was Paul Walker?

Born in California in 1973, Paul Walker made his big-screen debut in the 1986 horror spoof Monster in Your Closet . After appearing in several television shows in the 1990s, including Charles in Charge , Who's the Boss? and The Young and the Restless , Walker gained attention with a role in the 1999 film Varsity Blues , and his TV days were officially behind him. After working in teen movies such as She's All That and The Skulls , Walker got his breakthrough role in 2001 with The Fast and the Furious , which would become his star vehicle and keep him busy through four sequels and a short prequel. The Fast and the Furious franchise established Walker as an action-film mainstay, and he went on to appear in several films in the genre, including Takers , Hours and Vehicle 19 . Walker died in a car accident on November 30, 2013, at age 40.

Walker died in a car accident on November 30, 2013 at the age of 40. Walker was in Santa Clarita, California, to attend a charity event for Reach Out Worldwide to benefit victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. He was reportedly in the passenger seat of a Porsche when his friend who was driving lost control, crashing the vehicle into a tree. The car was engulfed in flames and both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Walker has a daughter, Meadow Rain, with ex-girlfriend Rebecca McBrain. In his will, Walker left his $25 million estate to Meadow and requested that his mother become her legal guardian.

The 2015 release of Fast & Furious 7 was made possible with the help of Walker's two brothers, Caleb and Cody, who had a close physical resemblance to the actor. The brothers worked with visual effects artists in scenes that needed to be reshot of the late actor, and with the implementation of CG, brought Walker back to life.

The film would go on to gross $1.7 billion internationally.

Early Career

Born on September 12, 1973, in Glendale, California, Paul Walker appeared in front of the camera at a young age, modeling and acting in television shows such as Charles in Charge , Highway to Heaven and Who's the Boss . In 1986 he made his film debut in the horror spoof Monster in the Closet while also landing a recurring role on TV's Throb .

After high school, Walker attended various California community colleges, but he dove into acting full-time in 1993, taking a role in the soap opera The Young and the Restless . After a handful of TV guest roles and the lead in Tammy and the T-Rex , Walker starred in the family comedy Meet the Deedles and left his TV career behind for good.

Walker's next role was a big one for his career: He appeared opposite Reese Witherspoon in the critically acclaimed, high-concept Pleasantville . From that point on, Walker found himself in starring roles in such late-1990s films as She's All That , Varsity Blues and The Skulls  — all pitched at a teen audience which helped turn Walker into a heartthrob.

'The Fast and the Furious'

In 2001 Walker's career hit overdrive when he landed a leading role alongside up-and-comer Vin Diesel in The Fast and the Furious . A film that paid homage to road films of the 1970s, The Fast and the Furious brought Walker to new heights of fame on the way to box-office receipts of more than $200 million.

Two years later, the franchise was back with its first sequel, 2 Fast 2 Furious , and Walker was again along for the ride. The film's gross was even larger than the first, and a bona fide hit series was under way. Walker then appeared in a few more action-oriented movies, including Timeline (2003), Into the Blue (2005) and Running Scared (2006), while also signing on to appear in the ensemble drama Noel (2004) and the children's adventure movie Eight Below (2006).

'Flags of Our Fathers,' 'The Death and Life of Bobby Z'

Walker also showed his range as an actor in the 2006 war drama Flags of Our Fathers , directed by Clint Eastwood. He continued to take on more action movie roles in The Death and Life of Bobby Z (2007), Takers (2010) and Fast Five (2011) — the third installment of the Fast and Furious franchise. In 2012 Walker signed on to film Fast & Furious 6 (2013), keeping the series' momentum going.

While not filming, Walker was active in Reach Out Worldwide , a nonprofit organization he formed in 2010 to bring aid to regions devastated by natural disasters.

'I Am Paul Walker' Documentary

In August 2018, Paramount Network is set to release I Am Paul Walker , a feature-length documentary about the life and career of the late Fast and Furious actor. The doc will include interviews with co-stars such as Tyrese Gibson, directors Rob Cohen and Wayne Kramer, as well as Walker's family members.

Paul Walker

Paul Walker

  • Born September 12 , 1973 · Glendale, California, USA
  • Died November 30 , 2013 · Valencia, Santa Clarita, California, USA (car accident)
  • Birth name Paul William Walker IV
  • Height 6′ 2″ (1.88 m)
  • Paul William Walker IV was born in Glendale, California. He grew up together with his brothers, Caleb and Cody, and sisters, Ashlie and Amie. Their parents, Paul William Walker III, a sewer contractor, and Cheryl (Crabtree) Walker, a model, separated around September 2004. His grandfather, William Walker, was a Pearl Harbor survivor and a Navy middleweight boxing champion, while his maternal grandfather commanded a tank battalion in Italy under General Patton during World War II. Paul grew up active in sports like soccer and surfing. He had English and German ancestry. Paul was cast for the first season of the family sitcom, Throb (1986) and began modeling until he received a script for the 1994 movie, Tammy and the T-Rex (1994) . He attended high school at Village Christian High School in Sun Valley, California, graduating in 1991. With encouragement from friends and an old casting agent who remembered him as a child, he decided to try his luck again with acting shortly after returning from College. He starred in Meet the Deedles (1998) , a campy, silly but surprisingly fun film which failed to garner much attention. However, lack of attention would not be a problem for Paul Walker for long. With Pleasantville (1998) , he appeared in his first hit. As the town stud (a la 1950s) who more than meets his match in modern day Reese Witherspoon , he was one of the most memorable characters of the film. That same year, Paul and his then-girlfriend Rebecca had a baby girl named Meadow Walker (Meadow Rain Walker). Even though Paul publicly admitted that Meadow was not planned, he said that she is his number one priority. Paul and Rebecca separated and Meadow lives with her mother in Hawaii. She often visited with Paul as his homes in Santa Barbara and Huntington Beach, California. Roles in the teen hits Varsity Blues (1999) , She's All That (1999) and The Skulls (2000) cemented Walker's continued rise to celebrity. He was chosen to be one of the young stars featured on the cover of Vanity Fair's annual Hollywood issue in April 2000. While the other stars on the cover, brooded and tried their best to look sexy and serious, Paul smiled brightly and showed why he is not part of the norm. This is one young actor who certainly stood apart from the rest of the crowd, not only with his talent but with his attitude. The Dallas Morning News commented in March of 2000 that, "Paul is one of the rarest birds in Hollywood- a pretension free movie star." The latest blockbuster hit, The Fast and the Furious (2001) , had raised his stardom to an even higher level. His fighting scenes in movies lead to a passion for martial arts. He has studied various forms of Jujitsu, Taekwondo, Jeet Kune Do and Eskrima. Paul mentioned in a magazine interview that he had hoped enroll in the Keysi Fighting Method when it comes to the United States. Other than practicing martial arts, Paul enjoyed relaxing at home with his daughter, Meadow Rain, surfing near his Huntington Beach abode, walking his dogs and just driving. When Paul seriously did get a break from the entertainment business, he said he loved traveling. Paul had traveled to India, Fiji, Costa Rica, Sarawak, Brunei, Borneo and other parts of the Asian continent. Tragically, Paul Walker died in a car crash on Saturday November 30, 2013, after attending a charity event for "Reach Out Worldwide". Several of Paul's films were released after his death, include Hours (2013) , Brick Mansions (2014) , and his final starring role in The Fast and the Furious series, Furious 7 (2015) , part of which was completed after his death. The film's closing scenes paid tribute to Walker, whose character met with a happy ending, and rode off into the sunset. He appeared archival footage in Fast X (2023). - IMDb Mini Biography By: Kelly ([email protected]) and DaveStewart and Anastasia Andrew Veno

Walker gained prominence with breakout roles in coming of age and teen films such as She's All That and Varsity Blues. In 2001, Walker gained international fame for his portrayal of Brian O'Conner in the street racing action film The Fast and the Furious (2001) , and would reprise the role in five of the next six installments. He also starred in films such as Eight Below, Timeline, Into the Blue, Joy Ride and Running Scared. Besides acting, Walker was the face of The Coty Prestige fragrance brand Davidoff Cool Water for Men, and starred in the National Geographic Channel series, Expedition Great White. He also founded the charity "Reach Out Worldwide" (ROWW), an organization providing relief efforts for areas affected by natural disasters. He was often praised for his off-screen charity work, and as a performer. Walker died in a single-vehicle collision on November 30, 2013, alongside friend Roger Rodas . Three films that he was involved in at the time were released posthumously: Hours (2013) , Brick Mansions (2014) and Furious 7 (2015) . The song, "See You Again", by Wiz Khalifa , which appeared on the Furious 7 soundtrack, is a tribute to Walker. The song was nominated for the Golden Globe Awards for Best Original Song at the 73rd Golden Globe Awards. - IMDb Mini Biography By: Pedro Borges

  • His grandfather Paul Walker, Jr. (aka. "Irish" Billy Walker) was a professional boxer, raced cars for Ford, and is a Pearl Harbor survivor.
  • Vin Diesel went to the site of Paul's death and spoke kind words over a loud speaker from a police officers car. He said, "I just want to say to all of you, if my brother were here right now and he saw all of the love you are bringing here", Vin said. "If he could see for himself that all of you have shown up to show my brother love... at this hard time, his family gets to see all of you show the love that you've shown Paul. It's going to stay with me, forever. I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for coming down here and showing that angel up in heaven how much you appreciate him".

  • You know, all that really matters is that the people you love are happy and healthy. Everything else is just sprinkles on the sundae. - in Flaunt Magazine, July 2001.
  • Some people say that you should go to all the parties, to the nightclubs, the Viper Room, and make contacts, and I look at them and say, 'You don't want to have contacts with those people.' Look at what happened to River Phoenix (who died in 1993 of a drug overdose outside the Viper Room). If you get caught up in that, it ruins you. Hollywood is garbage.
