Admission to the graduate program does not imply financial support. Obtaining scholarship funding is very competitive. A limited number of University Graduate Scholarships (UGS) are available each year. Graduate Teaching Fellowships (GTF) and Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTA) may also be available.
National granting councils (e.g. CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) and a number of other private or publicly funded agencies and organizations offer merit based fellowships and scholarships. Faculty members who hold research grants or external contracts may be in a position to offer Research Assistantships to their graduate students. Other potential sources of funding include endowment awards, varying in conditions and values.
Graduate students at USask can receive funding from a variety of sources to support their graduate education.
- Scholarships
Thesis or project-based master's program
Graduate students in a thesis or project-based program pay tuition three times a year for as long as they are enrolled in their program.

Study pharmacy
Beginning in the fall of 2023, we will be offering the first ever undergraduate Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program in French outside Quebec. The goal of this program? To train future pharmacists who can practice:
- In community or hospital settings
- In healthcare teams or ambulatory clinics
- In the pharmaceutical industry or regulatory agencies
- In academia
Steeped in the unique context of French Ontario and offered within the largest bilingual – English and French – university in the world, your pharmacy program allows you to study in French while evolving in a bilingual environment. We also offer a research-oriented environment and a long history of health education experience in French as part of the PharmD program.
At the leading edge of modern learning methods
With 144 credits over 4 years and 40 weeks of practical training, our program offers a wide variety of courses, labs, team learning sessions and workshops. The most innovative learning principles and elements have been incorporated, including:
- Competency-based approach
- Active and experiential learning
- Spiral learning progression
- Interprofessionalism
A human touch
Readily available without an appointment, the pharmacist is the accessible and reassuring health professional. As a patient’s point of contact with the healthcare system, the pharmacist takes the time to answer patients’ questions, reassure them and refer them as needed.
The practice of pharmacy is also a collective effort: physicians, nurses and technical staff, and patients collaborate daily with the pharmacist.
A medication expert
The pharmacist provides pharmaceutical care in a variety of settings: community, hospital, long-term care, etc., and ensures the optimal therapeutic care plan for the patient. The pharmacist may also prescribe certain medications for simple treatments, adjust certain dosages independently and even order certain lab tests.
Practicing in French
Studies carried out as part of the program's implementation showed a real shortage of pharmacists able to express themselves in French in minority setting. Given the increasing importance of this role in primary care, Francophone pharmacists are key players in the process of solving problems of access to care in French.
Take a look at our brochure !
Accreditation.
All undergraduate professional pharmacy programs in Canada are subject to the accreditation standards of the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP) .
“Accreditation is the public recognition accorded to a professional program that meets established professional qualifications and educational standards through initial and periodic evaluation. Accreditation concerns itself with both quality assurance and program enhancement. It applies to programs and is to be distinguished from certification or licensure, which applies to individuals.” (CCAPP, 2018)
We have developed the PharmD program in accordance with the competence frameworks of National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) and the Association of Faculties of Pharmacy of Canada (AFPC) while in accordance of the standards of the CCAPP.
