Slough RFC

END OF SEASON AWARDS SPEECH AND AWARDS

Hi my name is martin i am the U12s coach and this is Paul one my partners in crime.. Where to start , well another season’s over and what a interesting one it’s been! When I stood here twelve months ago, I would never have thought that we’d do reasonably well. Starting pre-season with 8 players but now up to a squad of 23 players with a mix of U11s/U12s/U13s.We’ve had our share of successes picking up 11 wins against teams like Phoenix, Reading Abbey, Ruislip, Thatcham, Abbotts, Chesham and 2 draws,. Another big plus was the Thacham coach commenting on how worried of our running game he and his team were when they had to play us at the Slough Tournament because earlier in the season we picked up a good result against them. But we’ve also had our share of problems too – notably when I had to call off training and the loss to Bracknell early in the season. Season Review At start of the season our plan was just to get the players playing as a team and improve support play and tackling and this was a success, because as the season progressed both Our Forwards and back line demonstrated a real flair for open, running rugby – particularly as their confidence grew – and by the second half of the season, the penny dropped and the players asserted themselves correctly in training and for games and this was when the team began to look as if they had been playing together all their lives. Although we have done well and probably all feel a little disappointed with the first half of the season it’s important to remember that we’ll need to be every bit as good next year and i feel we’ve learnt some valuable lessons. One of the great things about this sport is that there’s always room for improvement, we can all work on doing something just a little better. When everyone does that, the results can be amazing – and if there’s one thing I know about each and every one of you, it’s that there isn’t anyone who wouldn’t give their all for the team..

Awards First we give out the Individual awards and then it is the 3 main awards for each age group, coaches player, most improved and player of the year... Megan No8/Centre, Josh Prop, Arjun Prop, Reece hooker, Ryley hooker, Zac Prop, Harvey 2nd row, Robert 2nd row, Reiss 2nd row, Ned scrum half/fly half, Matteo Fly half, Dan Fly half/Centre, seb Wing, Aran wing, luke G wing, Jaden wing/full Back, Charlie wing/centre, Matthew wing, Jack Centre Kieran Scrum Half U11s Coaches Player, This player is small in stature but has a big heart and always willing to give his best, and is a joy to coach = Luke Gardner U11s most improved, this player at start of season was shy and timid, but by asserting himself in training by listening and wanting to learn he has grown in confidence, making him a better player for it and this was very evident in the game against Reading Abbey with some good running and support play = Sebastian Gray U11s Player of the Year, well this goes to someone who is quick, good tackler and has never looked intimidated by someone size, he will always be committed to a tackle = Aran Sharma U12 U12 Coaches Player, This player listens, and demonstrates teamwork, discipline, you can ask him to play anywhere and he will not moan, he will just get on with it and play his game= Harvey Blasquez U12 Most improved, All the players have improved technically but this award is not just for improvement on the pitch, but of it too. You can see how he is enjoying his rugby this year and how is attitude has improved, in seasons gone by his parents have thought that us coaches was singling him out for his behaviour, but this season we coaches have not had to pull him to the side for a chat at all..=Robert Vater U12 Player of the year, This player demonstrates all the core values Enjoyment, Discipline, Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Respect.. The opposition coaches always commenting on how this player is and wish they had them on their team, and Phoenix always feel happy when they do not see this player..This player is a main cog in the team and when playing well the team plays well and picks up their game, it a shame that this season is to be their last with the boys and i am sure no one will argue with this decision= Megan Tilby U13 The last time i coached these guys they was U10s so was a bit hard to decide but came to a decision.. U13 Coaches player:- This player is easy to talk too and reads the game well and can be very vocal and help younger players on the field..= Dan Harris U13 most improved:- This player has a cheeky smile and demonstrates all the core values, and has improved from when i last coached him at U10s = Ryley Vanstone U13 Player of the Year:- by now it pretty obvious who U13 player of year is as there is only 3 of them. This player is very thoughtful of others and helps player with less experience on the pitch throughout training and games. Helping put others at ease and communicates very well = Kieran Lanigan

Player player Also this year we done Players player vote as a whole squad giving a chance for the players to vote on their team mates, and it was close vote but winner is Aran..

I couldn’t possibly end without saying “thank you” to the ladies and Gentleman who make such a great job of making sure we don’t all fade away from thirst or starvation! And have fixtures to play. We really do appreciate all that you do for us – and we couldn’t do without you, and a big thanks to the parents for helping out when needed and supporting us coaches in what we would like and believe this team can achieve on and off the pitch. I also want to say “thanks” to all of you players for turning up to training, come rain or shine. There’s an old saying that “it matters not if you win or lose, but how you play the game” – and it’s an honour and a privilege to be associated with a group of people who play the game so well.
