Rank required depends upon the number of vacancies each year Girish…It also depends on your category. For last few years, around 1000 vacancies are reported for all the 24 Civil Services combined. Around half of the seats come under reservation. To get IAS, a general category candidate needs an All India Rank less than 80. When you prepare notes, prepare it point-wise for each topic and not question-answer mode. See an example for the topic ” Indus Valley Civilization” : https://www.clearias.com/indus-valley-civilization/.

Apart from this, you need to write and practice answers for different questions. Try you own questions as well as previous questions by UPSC. This writing practice will surely turnout highly useful for mains. All the best!

Actually we cant judge one year preparation is sufficient to crack IAS.. It depends on person to person.. One person will complete one topic in 3hrs, another person will complete that same topic in 6hrs.. The Main thing is hardwork.. Complete the syllabus as soon as possible…

Hi Niharika, Thanks a lot for the nice comment. Please find how much time is left to you before the exam. If you have more than 6 months, concentrate on mains topics first and then focus on prelims. If you are a beginner, NCERT texts can be a starting source. Daily time table is upto you, but we advise studying all subjects on a daily basis allocating 45-60 min/subject.

SIR, I am Vipan Sain from yamuna nagar haryana and i appeared in CS-2016. I have done MSc Industrial Chemistry. But the medium of my study is mixed. I have studied in hindi medium upto 10th and after that i have studied in english medium from 12th to MSC. I can learn only science and maths in english and the rest of the subjects like history, geography,public add, constituition of india etc can’t in english. I think there is no percentage criteria of graduation to appera UPSC exam.Just you have to become a graduate from a recognized university.So,nothing to worry about graduation’s percentage.Just focused on UPSC preparation. All the very best!

Poetry and Medicine Hey Doc John Petrilli, MD JAMA

“Hey Doc” calls to us in an almost cheeky tone, its colloquial informality at first seeming to challenge the stereotypically aloof physician. 1 Common-man “John,” as the speaker of the poem declares he prefers to be called, seeks to commune on more humanistic terms with his physician-interlocutor, invoking Aristotle and Ptolemy, classical thinkers whose writings bridge high-minded science and universalizing art. A twist in the poem occurs midway, where the speaker and the physician trade places, becoming one: “When you descended into//hell, whose heavenly hand reached you?” (note the plunge to hell across the stanza break). Here we infer the speaker is a physician addressing himself reflectively after becoming ill, and the poem becomes a gentle admonishment against what perhaps he realizes was his own past arrogant detachment from patients. The interpretation is buttressed by “The old adage, ‘Physician, heal thyself,” Jesus’ oft-quoted caution against hypocrisy; besides calling himself out for his own shortcomings, the speaker also reminds us of the wounded healer archetype, famed psychoanalyst Carl Jung’s proposed model for the motivation of many entering the health professions, which posits it is our own painful experiences that inspire us to try to alleviate others’ suffering. 2 “Hey Doc,” in a voice founded on a bedrock appreciation of shared humanity, and arising from illness experience that reinforces humility and remembers what draws us to the work of healing, ultimately is like a friendly if uncomfortably firm handshake. We meet as if at the threshold of a clinical encounter, each wounded, equally human, one and the same.
