A Speech on “My Favorite Film”

I am here today to speak about my favorite film. My favorite film is “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. It is an American musical fantasy film released in 2005.

It was directed by Tim Burton and written by John August. The movie was based on the 1964 British novel that goes by the same name, written by Roald Dahl.

The story is about a young boy Charlie who finds a ticket with four other children to visit the chocolate factory owned by Willy Wonka. The film was a major box office hit and was received with love, especially among children.

Wonka gives away five golden tickets to visit the chocolate factory inside five different bars of Wonka Bars.

Four children easily obtain the first four bars, and Charlie Bucket obtains the fifth ticket after many emotional scenes and turmoil.

Charlie’s family was poor, and though he received monetary offers in exchange for the ticket, he declined it as he was so passionate about visiting the chocolate factory. He takes along with him his Grandpa Joe to accompany him on tour.

During the tour, the individual flaws of the children make them give in to temptation and are thus eliminated. With the fall of each person, the ‘Oompa-Loompas’ sing a song of morality.

The eliminated children left the place with the deformities that came as part of their fall for temptation, pride, and greed. The movie also introduces us to Willy Wonka’s troubled past and childhood.

Charlie was the only person remaining, and since he was the “least rotten”, he was offered to inherit the chocolate factory as it was time for Willy Wonka to retire, so he was invited to come and live with Wonka in the factory, on the condition that he leaves his family behind like Wonka.

Charlie declined the offer and said that his family is the most important possession that he has and will not give it up for anything.

Charlie then does quite well in his late a while later. Willy Wonka was too depressed to make candies like he used to, and his factory ran at a loss and declined.

He then goes to Charlie for advice, and Charlie helps him reconcile with his estranged father, after which he finally realizes the value of family.

Things go quite well with his father, and later on, Charlie is allowed to reside in the factory along with his family.

I like this film because of the mesmerizing visual treat it gives to the eyes and minds of the viewers. The storyline is beautiful and unique so is the acting, especially of Johnny Dep. the story teaches us the importance of families and how amazing it is to be in a family that loves you no matter what.

Through Charlie’s family, we get to know that money is not important in a family. It is the love and bond that they have, that makes it beautiful. It also teaches that greed and pride will only lead to downfall.

1 Minute Speech on My Favourite Movie In English

A very good morning to one and all present here. Today, I will be giving a short speech on the topic of my favourite movie.

Normally, being a bookworm, I proclaim that until my last dying breath, I shall defend the book over the movie through and through. But, one movie remains to be an exception to this rule for me. It is no surprise that this also happens to be my favourite movie!

And which movie is this? It is none other than ‘Pride and Prejudice’!

While the movie indeed did not replicate every single scene in the book, it successfully managed to recreate the magical atmosphere found in the book. Despite being concise in its duration, the movie captured all the important scenes in the book that were crucial for the development of the plot and characters.

Speaking of characters, I must say that the role of Mrs Bennet was the most extraordinary, her mannerisms captured perfectly. And so was Collins’!

Do watch it.

Thank you.

15 Best Movie Speeches of All Time

of 15 Best Movie Speeches of All Time

Dialogues and speeches are the string, which binds the beads of a good cinema. Acting, cinematography, production they can all fall apart if the writing sucks. There are so many movies with great stories who aren’t impactful, because of lame dialogues. On the other hand, people remember even mediocre movies because of a powerful speech. These speeches are so inspirational that they make the listener believe that anything’s possible. The sheer power of words is strong enough to move mountains. In these speeches, the speaker enthralls the audience with his wisdom and experience and motivates them to carry out the impossible in life. We, at the Cinemaholic, made a list of top movie speeches ever that will inspire you. Be ready to get motivated!

15. Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End (2007) – “Hoist The Colours”

Consider this. A fleet of pirate ship have been surrounded by the elite force of Her Majesty’s Royal Navy. The pirates are broken, without any command and their faith lies in their pirate queen Elizabeth who probably due to a turn of fate, became their leader. Tricked into a cornered position, by a cunning lord Beckett, she is left with no choice but retaliate with whatever she has. And she choses this moment to rise to the occasion. She thunders at her fellow pirates, asking them to fight like free men and not surrender meekly like cowards. And it resonates with pirates, irrespective of their clans and they roar as every version of Jolly Roger starts flying high in the wind.

14. V For Vendetta (2005) – “The Revolutionary Speech”

Just like Hitler crafted a dictatorship, disguised within a so-called superior race driven government, in a not so distant future version of London, the chancellor Adam Sutler formed a reign where in the name of security, privacy was looted. In return of order and peace to the society, the people traded their foremost weapon – consent. In the garb of protecting the people, the reigning government unleashed tyranny and oppression. In such times, one fine day, every TV gets tuned into a channel where a man wearing a Guy Fawkes mask speaks to them. He reminds them of Guy Fawkes, who brought a revolution to the people 400 years ago. To end this cruelty and meek submission, he asks everyone to join him in exactly one year later, on 5th of September on the gates of the Parliament. This speech sets in motion, of the events of ‘V for Vendetta’.

13. The Wolf Of Wall Street (2013) – “I’m not fuckin’ leaving”

The high flying, corrupt and megalomaniac Jordan Belfort is finally caught and as a part of the deal with the FBI, he’s supposed to leave Stratton Oakmont and never ever indulge in the market of share trading, which made him so rich. He appears in his office and makes an announcement about his stepping down from the company, in front of his beleaguered colleagues. He explains his pain in leaving them in lurch and how he’s going to miss them all. While talking about their collective effort to make money overcoming their individual struggles in life, all of sudden he realizes, this is place where he belongs after all. And despite the warning of FBI, he screams his lungs out – ‘I’m not fuckin’ leaving !!’

12. Rocky Balboa (2006) – “It ain’t about how hard you hit”

Rocky Balboa is an ageing boxer, who has left the sport, only to come back to it again. His wife’s dead and his son is sick and tired of the name and pressure of being related to Rocky. His father’s fame has started to affect him professionally and personally as well. So he gets the news of his arthritic father, gearing up for another bout of boxing, he discourages him by stating his example of being a failure, despite of being a Balboa. Rocky thunders when he says, ‘It’s ain’t about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.’ He asks him to stop blaming others for his failure. It’s an moving speech with some profound advice for life. Life’s meant to be unfair and its sole plan is to keep you down. Instead of cribbing, you’ve to accept your loses and move forward. That’s how you win.

11. Any Given Sunday (1999) – “Life’s a game of inches”

Before an all important play off game, coach D’Amato, played by Al Pacino gathers around his players. Through many difficulties and infightings, they’ve reached a place where one mistake can cost them everything. He begins the talk with comparing their current position to being in a shit hole and it’s totally up to them to get beat the shit out of themselves or fight hard to come back. He cites his own example of being a broken man who lost money, family and himself for taking bad decisions in life. But life is just like a game of football . It’s all about the margin of error. Just like a game of football, where once one starts losing, he gets the drift of the game and then tries crawl into those inches. He urges them to come together as a team and win it for themselves.

10. Wall Street (1987) – “Greed, for lack of a better word, is Good”

Wall street is about money. Wall street is about power. Wall street is about greed. And greed, ladies and gentlemen, for the lack of a better word, is good. That’s what Gordon Gekko believed in. In a speech to the investors of a loss making paper company Teldar, he explains meticulously that the sole reason the company lost so much of money is because of inefficient people at the top and not because he broke the company to pieces. He argues that his greed of making money actually liberates loss making industries. Greed is an evolutionary trait and it’s greed which has made man go for more, be it knowledge, technology or profit. It’s an amazing take on something which itself is labelled as a biblical sin. Michael Douglas as Gordon Gekko, gives an amazing performance.

9. Dead Poet’s Society (1989) – “Carpe Diem, seize the day boys”

In a school, where discipline is revered, a new English teacher comes in a breather among the strict disciplinarians. To a motley group of students, he reaches out and asks them to come out of their shell. He tells them to live their lives in their own way and not to someone’s expectations. One’s life duration is limited and eventually everyone will die. What will be left, is his legacy. So instead of living a dull life, one should do something to make it extraordinary. That’s the essence of Carpe Diem. The character of John Keating was played by the late Robin Williams , who demonstrates the importance of individuality to the students through this inspiring speech. He inspires them to be achieve greatness rather than to be successful.

8. Remember The Titans (2000) – “Take a lesson from the dead”

At the heights of racism, a black man is appointed as the head coach of a school, where traditionally it’s usually filled up by a white man. Tackling racism and discrimination at every step, coach Boone takes up the challenge. The team suffers from racially motivated conflicts and its success is deterred due to the ever meddling school authorities. Coach Boone takes everything to his stride and takes his team through a gruelling schedule of training at the Gettysburg cemetery where thousands of men died during the battle of Gettysburg. Through this speech, he asks his team to learn from those people, who laid their lives while fighting for each other. He urges them to be better by coming together and play as one team. His speech motivates his team to achieve success. Denzel Washington plays coach Boone in the sports drama ‘Remember The Titans’.

7. Braveheart (1995) – “They may take our lives, but they’ll never take our freedom”

In an English ruled Scotland, a young William Wallace witnesses the English massacring his family. He flees from the country only to return as a rebel who takes charge to lead the rebellion against the English. As he leads a rag-tag army of Scottish peasants and farmers, he asks them to fight as free men, against the enormous English army. When somebody from the army says that it’s better to hide and live than to fight and die, Wallace roars back by saying that the enemy may take their lives but they will never be able to take their freedom. Mel Gibson acted as well as directed this film, which went on to win five academy awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

6. Scent Of A Woman (1992) – “When shit hits the fan, some guys run and some guys stay”

At the Baird school, which traditionally has given the country many leaders and achievers, a disciplinary meeting takes place, for an act of mischief. While the reason remains trivial at its best, the focus shifts to two persons, who were supposed to be the witnesses of the events. One of those witnesses is a boy, whose father is a key figure in the school management. Hence he gets off the hook, after naming the suspects. Naturally it’s the other guy Charlie, who despite of being innocent, gets to take the blame. And it almost happens but for the presence of Lt Colonel Frank Slade. He makes his point that while everyone chose to be indifferent to the situation, Charlie showed integrity by not behaving as a snitch. And this is the stuff leaders are made of. Al Pacino played Lt Colonel Slade and gave a performance of a lifetime.

5. Independence Day (1996) – “Today, we celebrate our independence day”

While the world burns and is at the mercy of aliens, it comes down to a few brave men who decide to join forces to fight against the aliens. After repeated attempts of failure, a final assault is planned in the lines of a kamikaze attack, similar to a suicide mission. The president, himself a pilot mans the mission. Before they leave the base, he reminds them that this mission, incidentally to commence on 4th of July will be the biggest battle of their lives. And should they win, it will no longer be an American holiday. Rather it will be the day, when the world will be liberated of their common enemy. It shall be the world’s independence day. It’s a speech that evokes thunderous applause from everyone, as their belief in their leader becomes firm.

4. Network (1976) – “I’m mad as hell and am not going to take it anymore”

News these days, are more of shock inducing and eye grabbing details rather than journalism based on facts. In ‘Network’, a TV network’s struggle with declining viewership turns into a full-blown war when its own people start making factory made shows to get ratings. The movie is primarily about how TV controls the life and through it audio-visual medium, can sway public opinion about everything. In a way, this is what controls the masses today. When the veteran news anchor Howard Beale screams at his viewers to shout that they’ re mad as hell and are not going to take it anymore, he vents out his frustration at the growing influence of TV on the people. He cites example of life going astray while the TV shows paint a rosy picture. Many years later, as we see today, the real has imitated the reel and today literally the TV controls everything. This speech is truly pathbreaking.

3. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) – “Get busy living or get busy dying”

There’s nothing new that can be told about ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ . Arguably the best movie ever, this is Andy Dufresne’s story spanning across nineteen years in the infamous Shawshank penitentiary. While Andy makes the most out of his time at the prison doing various jobs, he also gets into a tiff with a corrupt warden over his discharge which leads him into a solitary confinement. When he’s out, his friend Red becomes afraid that this may break him forever. However a nonchalant Andy tells him about his dream destination and his wish to spend rest of his life there, thus explaining that life is all about hope and at times, it comes down to one simple choice – Get busy living or get busy dying. This speech is also a metaphor for being hopeful in the most hopeless of situations.

2. A Few Good Men (1992) – “You can’t handle the truth”

A soldier dies at GITMO base camp and the blame goes to couple of fellow soldiers as an act of negligence. While the soldiers plead that they were under order to punish the dying soldier, it comes down to one of the most laziest of military lawyers to take up their case. As the case reaches its final stage, upon repeated provocation from the defence lawyer, Colonel Nathan Jessup becomes enraged and tells that at times, despite being wrong, people need to take decision that may take one life but in return save thousands. Freedom comes at a price and being a provider of the same, that’s what entitles him to take decisions which may or may not be ethical. This’s the truth and that possibly cannot be fathomed by a layman. A stunning performance by Jack Nicholson !

1. The Great Dictator (1940)- “We think too much and feel too little”

Charlie Chaplin ’s ‘The Great Dictator’ is a political satire, in the garb of comedy and it condemns the ways of the contemporary dictators of the time, namely Hitler and Mussolini. A Jewish barber, who’s also a lookalike of the tyrant ruler of a fictional country gets to replace the dictator and ends up in a podium where he has to deliver a speech. He rises to the occasion when he tells his subjects that instead of ruling everyone as a dictator, he wants to help everyone. As human beings, one should rise above the ever engulfing greed. Though the world has progressed into future through numerous innovations, still it does distinguish people based on their caste, creed and colour. Humanity has been lost its meaning in the countless machinery that does our jobs. We’ve become cynical due to our ever growing penchant for knowledge. And that’s where we all lose as mankind.

Essay on My Favourite Film

Students are often asked to write an essay on My Favourite Film in their schools and colleges. And if you’re also looking for the same, we have created 100-word, 250-word, and 500-word essays on the topic.

Let’s take a look…

100 Words Essay on My Favourite Film

Introduction.

My favourite film is “Toy Story”. This animated movie, created by Pixar, is a delightful adventure that brings toys to life.

The story revolves around toys that secretly come to life when humans are not around. Woody, a cowboy doll, and Buzz Lightyear, a space ranger, are the main characters.

Each character is unique, with their own personality. Woody is loyal and brave, while Buzz is adventurous and daring.

“Toy Story” is my favourite film because it’s imaginative, fun, and teaches valuable lessons about friendship and loyalty.

250 Words Essay on My Favourite Film

Every cinephile has that one film that resonates with them on a deeply personal level. For me, that film is Christopher Nolan’s “Inception.” A blend of science fiction and heist thriller, “Inception” is a cinematic masterpiece that pushes the boundaries of storytelling and visual effects.

Plot and Characters

The plot revolves around Dom Cobb, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, a skilled thief who steals secrets from people’s subconscious while they dream. The film takes a thrilling turn when Cobb is tasked with planting an idea into someone’s mind, a process known as inception. The ensemble cast, including Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Tom Hardy, deliver stellar performances that add depth to the complex narrative.

Cinematic Techniques

Nolan’s use of cinematic techniques is nothing short of spectacular. The film’s dream sequences are visually stunning, and the use of practical effects provides a sense of realism that enhances the viewing experience. The non-linear storytelling keeps the audience engaged, constantly challenging them to discern between dream and reality.

“Inception” explores several profound themes, such as the nature of reality, the power of ideas, and the struggle with guilt and redemption. These themes are woven seamlessly into the narrative, prompting viewers to question their perceptions and reflect on their own experiences.

“Inception” is more than just a film; it is an immersive experience that invites viewers to journey into the depths of the subconscious. It is my favourite film because it combines thought-provoking themes with innovative storytelling and stunning visuals, making it a compelling cinematic experience.

500 Words Essay on My Favourite Film

My favourite film, “Inception,” directed by Christopher Nolan, is a cinematic masterpiece that delves into the intricate complexities of the human mind. Its unique blend of science fiction and heist thriller genres, coupled with an exceptional cast and thought-provoking narrative, make it a film that continues to captivate me.

“Inception” explores the concept of dream manipulation, where a group of ‘extractors’ infiltrates the subconscious mind to steal or implant ideas. The film’s protagonist, Dom Cobb (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), is an expert extractor who is offered a chance to erase his criminal past by performing an ‘inception’ – planting an idea in someone’s mind. The plot’s intricacy, the layering of dreams within dreams, and the exploration of the subconscious mind’s labyrinth make it an intellectual feast.

Characterization

The characters in “Inception” are well-rounded and complex, each contributing to the story’s depth. Dom Cobb’s struggle with his haunting past, the ambitious architect Ariadne (Ellen Page), and the enigmatic businessman Saito (Ken Watanabe) all add to the film’s richness. The character development is subtle yet profound, adding layers of emotional depth to the intricate plot.

Nolan’s use of cinematic techniques in “Inception” is another aspect that makes it my favourite film. The innovative special effects, particularly the dream sequences, are visually stunning. The rotating hallway fight scene, the crumbling cityscape, and the weightless elevator sequence are unforgettable. The film’s non-linear narrative structure, combined with Hans Zimmer’s haunting score, creates an immersive viewing experience.

Themes and Symbolism

“Inception” is rich in themes and symbolism, exploring concepts such as reality versus illusion, guilt, and redemption. The spinning top, Cobb’s totem, symbolizes his struggle to distinguish reality from dreams. The film also delves into the power of ideas, suggesting that a single idea can define or destroy one’s life. These themes provoke introspection, making the film a philosophical exploration of the human psyche.

“Inception” is a film that transcends the boundaries of conventional storytelling. Its thought-provoking narrative, complex characters, innovative cinematic techniques, and philosophical themes make it a film that resonates with me on many levels. It is a film that encourages viewers to question their perception of reality and the power of their subconscious mind. For its intellectual depth, emotional resonance, and cinematic brilliance, “Inception” remains my favourite film.

Sample Answer

Oh…this is such a difficult topic. There are so many great films I’ve seen and to choose one as my favourite is just impossible.

But that’s what I’ve been asked to talk about so the film I’ve gone for is Forest Gump not only because I think it’s a great film but also it’s one I guess most people have seen so I won’t appear to be some kind of film buff that’s talking about an Art House movie nobody’s ever heard of.  And Forest Gump won around six Oscars, including Best Picture so, if that’s anything to go by , then it must be pretty good!

I must have seen it around three or four times. I never saw it when it was first released in 1994. I was a bit too young at the time, just a year old but I saw it first on TV when I was around 12 or 13, watching it with my elder brother who kept on trying to explain to me what it was all about. And since then, I recall watching it at least twice on streaming services .

One of the things I most like about the film is that it is not easy to put a label on it . In a sense it’s whatever you want it to be . On one level, it’s a romantic comedy , a love story. At the same time, it’s a fantasy, what some people call “magic realism” because it mixes fantasy with real events. Or is it a kind of political drama or satire even, a critical look at the history of the United States from the 1960s through to the early 1980s?

It tells the story of Forest Gump from his childhood onwards and the love between him and his mother as well as his love for a girl, Jenny, he meets at school. Forest appears to be slow-witted, completely innocent but over the years accomplishes so much, winning medals for bravery in battle, becoming a top table tennis player, setting up a shrimp fishing business and making a million out of it, as well as meeting several US Presidents including JF Kennedy. Meanwhile, Jenny leads a different life, ending up with drug and alcohol issues. At the end though, they finally get married and have a year of happiness before she dies, leaving him with their young son.

There are those who have criticized the film for having as its hero a man who has no thoughts on anything, except for an unbounded optimism, who becomes successful at whatever he does without any conscious effort. I understand that view and see it as another layer of meaning the story has. That’s what makes it such a great film. There’s something in it for everybody. It can make you laugh, cry, feel for the characters and get annoyed with them all at once. In other words, the film is open to interpretation and you can get a lot out of it in all kinds of ways . And the acting of course, especially with Tom Hanks in the lead , is first class. I know he has starred in many films but I believe this is his best.

IELTS Speaking Part 2 & 3 Topic: Describe your favorite movie

Topic: describe your favorite movie.

You should say:

When and where you saw it

What type of film it was

What the film was about

And explain why it is your favorite film

As a frequent moviegoer , I watch a multitude of films. One of the movies I’m much into is “One day”, an American romantic drama movie. It is directed by Lone Scherfig based on a novel of the same name. I watched this movie at least three times yet still love to watch again and again .

The movie opens with a short scene of the day after their graduation on 14 July 1988 of two main characters, Dexter Mayhew (Jim Surgess) and Emma Morley (Anne Hathaway). They spent the night together but came up with an agreement to be just friends, and spent the following day together, the 15 th , St. Swithin’s day. However, they couldn’t keep the promise . They went through different circumstances , troubles got married and lived apart from each other until 2004, Emma and Dexter finally realized they were a perfect match and got engaged and married. Unfortunately, despite many efforts, they have not yet had kids. On 15 th July 2006, Emma had a car accident when she was crossing the street. Dexter became inconsolable and was particularly desolated each year on that day. The movie ends up with the scene back to 1988 when they first met and promised to always be best friends.

This movie usually gets me burst into tears no matter how many times I’ve watched it. Not only was the story itself so miserable but also the actor and actress outperformed the ordinary . This movie also aimed to encourage people to appreciate the happiness and true love from the ones who have always been there for them.

Moviegoer (noun) a person who goes to the cinema

To do Sth again and again (v) to love constantly repeating Sth

To spend the night (v) to sleep over

To come up with (v) to think of Sth

To keep the promise (v) to do what you said you would do

A perfect match (n) to perfectly fit with another

Inconsolable (adj) so unhappy or disappointed that no one can make you feel better

To always be there for SO (v) to strongly and consistently support SO anyhow

To outperform the ordinary (v) to perform significantly well

QUESTIONS FOR PART 3

1. Do you think (watching) films have (has) educational benefits?

Absolutely, I think. Take romantic films as an example, they can help educate people about the value of love, honesty, and faithfulness. They can make the audience sympathize with other people and respect what they have. Indead, films can teach people good virtues to become better citizens through stories. Besides, in most high school and college courses, movies, whether documentary or narrative, are a creative approach in teaching, helping students have a brief idea about the history, social issues, or scientific experiments. History, for example, indeed becomes more approachable and interesting in movies.

Good virtue (n) behavior showing high moral standards

Sympathise (v) t o feel sorry for somebody, to show that you understand and feel sorry about somebody’s problems

2. In what ways are documentary films and films only for entertainment different?

From my perspective, they are different in various aspects, especially their purposes. Documentaries are a reliable source of information and a powerful means of conveying a social message to the world. It brings many benefits to the society. For instance, by watching documentaries together, many sensitive social issues, such as homosexuality , are discussed freely between parents and children instead of attempting to hide it. Films for entertainment, in another way, are mostly for people who need to chill out after work or study. Those movies tend not to discuss nothing but relationships between people.

Means of Sth (n) a tool or a way to do Sth (commonly used with unc. noun transportation, entertainment)

Homosexuality (n) sexual attraction to people of one’s own sex

To chill out (v) to relax

3. Why do you think documentary films are not so popular?

Personally, I think the foremost reason which makes documentary films are not as popular as entertainment films is that documentaries require the audience to think critically about current issues, b help them escape from the harsh realities of everyday life. For example, the series of “Prison life – love in prison”, which describes the prison sex, is an educational and emotional documentary that brings a different view of prisoners. Another reason is this kind of movie aims to provide education and lack entertaining features compared to other kinds of movies, therefore, it’s hard to reach a wide range of audience.

Rather than (phrase) u sed with the infinitive form of a verb to indicate negation as a contrary choice or wish

Harsh reality (n) the difficulties

(The) naked truth (n) the complete, unembellished truth

To aim to do Sth (v) to have a purpose to do Sth

4. How are movies and real life different?

Life in movies is so much different than real life. In real life, there is no script and you will write your own story day by day. Life is full of ups and downs , twists and turns . However, they both inspire each other since real life is a great material for making movies .

Ups and downs (n) good and bad times

Twists and turns (n) challenges or turning points in life

To make a movie (n) to produce a move

5. Do men and women like to watch the same kinds of films?

It depends, I guess. It is thought that men like action movies with shocking and dangerous scenes like Fast and Furious or sci-fi movies with imaginative, futuristic plots like Avatar while most women prefer romantic movies or comedies with meaningful messages. It seems logical; however, there are still many converse cases. Therefore, I think there is no boundaries for preferences between men and women when it comes to films.

Sci-fi movies (n) science-fiction movies

When it comes to (phrase) speaking about

6. Do different age groups like the same kinds of films?

Obviously. It’s undeniable that different generations prefer different kinds of movies. Children, for example, are usually fond of cartoons or funny movies such as Frozen or Tangled. Adults, on the other hand, tend to watch various types of movies such as action films, romantic films, documentaries or romantic films depending on their tastes.

To be fond of (adj) to be interested in

7. Do you like any particular film star? Why?

I like Emma Watson, a British actress, model and activist. She is famous for her first professional acting role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series. What I love about her is that not only is she an outstanding actress with admirable personalities but also she is the spiritual inspiration as the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. My favorite quote is “I don’t want the fear of failure to stop me from doing what I really care about ”, encouraging me to chase my dream despite many troubles ahead.

To be famous for (adj) to be known about by many people

To care about (v) to feel concern or interest; attach importance to something.

my favourite film speech

One of my favourite movies from recent years is  The Pursuit of Happyness , starring  Will Smith . Based on a true story, the movie is about  Chris Gardner , a man in financial difficulty who is trying to raise his son alone after his wife leaves him. It is very moving and Smith is terrific in the main role. I highly recommend it. In today’s post, there is a short clip from  the film . It is a scene in which Smith manages to find a little bit of time at the beginning of his day to play basketball with his son. At one point, Smith tells him that he will probably not be very good at basketball and that he shouldn’t spend too much time on the court. His son is understandably upset. Smith, who has seen his own dreams shattered over the years, realizes that, instead of discouraging his son, he should teach him to protect his dreams. The result is this speech that begins at 1:10 of the clip: Five great things about the speech Smith’s speech, which it is set out below, is only 40 seconds long, but there is much than we can learn from it when it comes to public speaking. Indeed, it has the following five traits, all of which are all hallmarks of a great speech: A simple message. Sincere emotion. Good eye contact. Well-timed  pauses . A call to action. A great scene and a great lesson about public speaking and life in general. Here’s the text of the speech from  The Pursuit of Happyness , written out like a poem – the way speeches should be written. ——— Hey. Don’t ever let somebody tell you, you can’t do something. Not even me. All right? You got a dream? You gotta protect it. People can’t do something themselves, they want to tell you you can’t do it. You want something? Go get it! Period!

Thanks for sharing this post. LOVE IT! We think alike and I wanted to let you know I’ve paid it forward and posted on my Facebook. Keep the dreams alive my friend! TCOY = Take Care of You! Lucy

Lucy, thanks very much for the comment and for sharing it on your Facebook page. Much appreciated. I find comments like yours incredibly motivating. Feel free to link up with my via Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn. It would be my pleasure. The icons are on the right side of the page. Cheers! John

Just to verify that Lucy “paid this forward” I’m coming here from her. 🙂 This is a great post and reminder that we need to pursue what we believe we are supposed to do. I’ll add to this that it is important to build a team of supporters, not nay-sayers and not necessarily “yes-men”, who can provide objective unbiased feedback blended with encouragement. Thanks for sharing! I’m going to Tweet this and probably post it on my blog at some point. Janna

Thank you, Janna, for the comment. And thanks also for mentioning Lucy. I very much appreciate your comments and I particularly like “objective unbiased feedback blended with encouragement”. Great stuff! John

Hi John — thanks for posting this. Two thoughts to share. The first is of course the message itself, which is especially important today for so many people. The bottom line is — if you want something, of course there may be challenges, of course there may be naysayers, but know what you want, and then go for it. The second is as you framed it, from a speaker’s perspective. The message doesn’t have to be fancy, or verbose — break it down so even a child can understand it and act upon it. Leslie (Oh, and I have also PIF (paid it forward…smile)

Thank you, Leslie. When moving toward one’s dreams, it is so important not to give up hope when the resistance increases. So often, people throw in the towel just before things start to change for the better. It reminds me of a stanza from Rudyard Kipling’s poem “If”: If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’ As for your second point, I completely agree. One of my favourite quotes for my students is from Leonardo da Vinci: “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” Many thanks again, John

Hi John, I thought the movie was gut wrenching (iro its message) and most insightful on many levels. Your excerpt shows this clearly. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to more of your messages. I have also retweeted. Kind regards Jacqui

Thank you for the comment, Jacqui, and for sharing the post. I agree with you about the film. One of my favourites. John

Hi John: Thank you for this insight into the movie. I often use this movie as part of my workshops. Firstly, I use it to talk about ‘getting to the essence of the story’. In real life, Chris Gardner’s life was quite a bit more complex than the movie depicts. However, the script writers were able to skilfully focus on just the key characters and elements thus making something that was easy to follow but kept the key essence of the story. Secondly, I use it as a good example of the Quest story line often favoured by script writers. I shall now add your thoughts so that I have three interesting things to say about the movie! As all good Toastmasters know, three is the magic number! Haha! BTW I see that you have dropped me a mail re November. I will drop you a mail later today or tomorrow. I have just returned from 2 1/2 weeks in California so have a bunch of email to attend to. However, just to say that I am still keen if you still are! Cheers F

Hi Freddie, thanks for the comment. Interesting to see the different creative ways in which the movie can be used in an educational manner – on many levels. Hope that you had a great time in California. Still keen on the November meeting if we can make it work. We’ll chat in greater detail by email. John

Hi John, Very inspiring post. I joined Toastmasters and I am ACB. I was working on my public speaking manual and found your website through your “No man’s land” video on YouTube. I have bookmarked your website and will take tips from here very often. I must say that I was very inspired reading this post and video. Amazing work. Best Wishes

Thanks very much for the comment. I am glad that you enjoyed the post and look forward to having you visit this blog in the future. Best of luck with the completion of your TM Manual. John

“A successful book is not made of what is in it, but what is left out of it.” — Mark Twain

John, you unintentionally confirmed one of the many ways in which Mark Twain’s quote is correct. The confirmation statement below was taken from your website.

“One of my favorite movies from recent years is The Pursuit of Happiness, starring Will Smith. Based on a true story, the movie is about Chris Gardner, a man in financial difficulty who is trying to raise his son alone after his wife leaves him.”

In what way does your statement confirm Mark Twain’s comment? In the word wife. Chris Gardner was never married to Jackie, years prior to where the movie began he as was married to Sherry. Jackie was an affair that he had on the side. He left his wife Sherry so that he could be the father he never had; the father to the son that him and Jackie were about to have together. Jackie and Chris were never married.

John, people like you and I, who are either married or grew up in a family with married parents, are biased to view the marital situation differently that the actual story. Someone in a different situation might assume that they were just living together, never legally married. From my own life experiences was also led to believe that Jackie was his wife.

After coming to the understanding of Gardner’s relationship situation, I watched the show again, I love that show. I was surprised to find that the show did not say or do anything to lead the viewer to think that they were married; instead it left that conclusion up to the viewer to personalize the story to them.

“A successful book (screen play) is not made of what is in it, but what is left out of it.” In this case relationship information left out allowed a broader spectrum of viewers the opportunity to make a closer connection with the lead character. I know I did.

Always Press On,

Rob Carr Woods Cross Utah

Rob, thanks for taking the time to write such an involved comment. The opening quote by Twain made me smile because I used as a post about five or six posts back.

I did not know that Gardner had his son as a result of an affair. But evidently that’s what happened. As for the movie, well, it has been a long while since I saw it, so I’ll have to make a point of watching it again. I checked a few sites. In the movie, Thandie Newton’s character is named Linda, not Sherry. I cannot remember consciously deciding that she was his wife; perhaps I just assumed it as you say. The interesting thing is that it appears that several other did too. The movie summaries on both Wikipedia and IMDb mention Linda as Gardner’s wife. Wikipedia even lists her in the cast as playing “Linda Gardner”. So I am not alone! Either way, it is a great show. Thanks again for the insight.

Hi there, I understand it’s very late to be replying to the initial post left by Rob, but Linda is definitely his wife & the mother to Christopher (of course the son) as when she is leaving & they ponder back & forth over who shall be taking responsibility for Christopher she tells him that she’s his mother & he should stay with the mother, although this could be a mother figure however I doubt that very much so.

Great work!

Thanks, Brad. It’s never too late to comment!

Yes a few things were changed in order to make the story work better as a film, and a great film it was.

Thanks, Rob.

Hi John, First, thanks for your post and just to tell you that this is my faviorte film and i actually used 4 positions in my life and every time i see the film I learn a new thing which helps me in my life. Thanks again. Mahmoud el Aydy

However, I am sure that if you search the Internet, you will find the detailed analysis that you are seeking. For example, I found this article on Wikipedia. Good luck with it. John

Hi John, great post. Just came across it while looking for a transcript of the speech for my blog post that I am working on today. This is one of my favorite movies.

Hi Alex. Thanks very much. I am with you on The Pursuit of Happyness when it comes to my favourite movies. Cheers! John

I have been a great fan of yours. Just like you, I am very passionate about public speaking. I am a struggling toastmaster. I found your blog very helpful for my speeches and your analyses very enlightening. If you have time, please view a few of my speeches on YouTube (Channel : Aung P Tun). Really looking forward to your valuable comments.

Thanks and always looking forward to your next post.

great message but need more please sim

Thanks. I try to keep adding good content on a regular basis.

Loved this movie on so many levels.

Yes. It is a great movie.

The heart always go to the heart …

from the movie “the pursuit of happyness” is it always the case you will pursue happiness and get happiness? pls explain further

Hi Rosemary. I don’t think that that is the case at all. A person’s pursuit of happiness does not guarantee happiness. Indeed, many people pursue happiness but do not succeed in reaching it. That is why the phrase is worded “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” in the Declaration of Independence. People have the right to life, the right to liberty and the right to pursue happiness; i.e., try to be happy however they choose (as long as it is legal). Happiness is not guaranteed but the right to try and be happy is.

It’s an absolutely stunning movie I enjoyed a lot and learned the lesson of struggling.

Thank you for the comment, Iqra. It’s one of my favourite movies as well.

Owsm movie. it was just superb, as it had inspired many peoples even i was a lot inspired by it. LOVED IT!!!! Thanx John…………

Thanks, Sunaina. I appreciate the comment.

This is a really great Article that helped me on my homework for school. I have to write a journal entry so I’m trying to find the script so that I can get a quote from the movie. My teacher only let us see the scene once so this place is the greatest for helping me study.

The Great Dictator

Made at a time when the shadow of World War II was looming over Europe, Charlie Chaplin’s speech here – he’s playing a poor Jewish barber in disguise as a preening dictator and forced to address a Nuremberg-style rally – is a heartfelt plea for sanity and compassion in a time of madness. It’s the perfect antidote to extremism, and uses fiery rhetoric for good. If only we’d be able to pull this switcheroo in real life.

Independence Day

Sure, there are cheesemongers with less cheese on offer than you see here and OK, the American jingoism doesn’t work at all for those of us not of a Yank disposition. But Bill Pullman’s slightly sheepish style blends here with steely determination, and he delivers the American St Crispin’s Day speech with conviction. Then, like any US President, he leaps into his fighter jet and flies off to battle aliens.

For those who prefer a little humour in their motivational speeches, try the pitch-black streak in this opener, establishing Russell Crowe’s Maximus Decimus Meridius as a leader of men and a helluva guy. Galloping around the Legions in his cool armour and fur-lined cloak, you might question whether he really needs an entire army to back him up, but you’ll never doubt for a moment that they’d choose to follow him as he unleashes hell.

Any Given Sunday

There’s a lot to be said for a little personal touch to leaven your high-flung rhetoric, and it’s a trick that Al Pacino uses well here, in the first of three American football speeches we’re going to include (hey, we can’t help it if the heavily-padded sport produces some great pep talks). Pacino’s troubled Tony D’Amato unveils his own problems with brutal honesty before using his own failures as a spur to rev on his team to greatness, speaking of team spirit and commitment as someone who has been known to suck at both.

Buy Any Given Sunday

Friday Night Lights

The film has been somewhat overshadowed nowadays by the equally good TV show that followed it, but watch Billy Bob Thornton here and be reminded that Kyle Chandler isn’t the only fundamentally decent man who can inspire a team of small-town boys to great efforts in pursuit of perfection. It’s also worth noting that he puts his emphasis here on excelling and not winning, making it clear that victory isn’t only measured by the scoreboard. Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.

Buy Friday Night Lights

It is, and will probably always be, the greatest inspirational speech ever made. It’s endlessly flexible, and works even when not declaimed by the classically trained (see this Renaissance Man version for proof). And it’s by Shakespeare, still the best writer in Hollywood. We have, controversially perhaps, chosen Branagh’s version over Olivier’s because the latter sounds a little shrill to the modern ear, while Branagh convinces us that he could convince his men. This speech, given by the titular monarch to a vastly outnumbered force about to fight the French, obviously works especially well for English people, but by God, Harry and St George, it’s universal in its rousing effect.

Buy Henry V

This is a little-known film in the UK but it’s revered in certain communities in the US. Sean Astin’s Rudy has overcome dyslexia, poor grades and his relatively small stature to win a place on Notre Dame’s famous Fighting Irish American football team. Only problem is that he’s never been off the bench, and with his final game approaching he threatens to quit the team if he isn’t allowed to play – prompting this inspirational speech / telling off from a friend who points out that he’s being whiny and entitled and needs to grow a pair. Soon he’s back on the bench and given a starting position when his entire team threatens not to play unless he’s given a shot.

An honourable mention for Hector’s pep talk but Achilles wins the battle of the inspirational speeches just as he wins their duel (c’mon, that’s not a spoiler; it’s in the 2000 year-old Iliad). This is a short snippet, but then godlike Achilles, the man-killer, is a man of action rather than words. And what he does say – focusing on lions, glory and the manifold abilities of his small, hand-picked group of Myrmidons – would convince a rock to fight any Trojan who dared oppose it.

Animal House

Not every inspirational speech is about trying to inspire his cohorts to kill people or batter them up and down the length of a football field. Some aspire to a higher goal. Some aspire to debauchery, drinking and probably nudity. Some aspire to party like 1999 might have done had it tried harder. Some aspire to a particular kind of grubby, deranged greatness. One such is John Belushi’s Bluto, and this is the greatest night of his life.

The Goonies

Come the hour, cometh the man – and in this case the man is a small, asthmatic Sean Astin, inspiring his fellow Goonies to never say die and to keep going in their quest to find treasure and save their community. In his yellow rain slicker and with his voice on the edge of breaking he may not look like a modern Napoleon, but he has the same effect on his exhausted and discouraged troopers. He’s so good you’ll almost forget to laugh at his mentions of One-Eyed Willy. snigger

The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King

Death comes to us all, and Aragorn ain’t going to lie about it. But he still gees up his troops with the assurance that their civilisation will survive the onslaught of the forces of Mordor. Sure, they’re vastly outnumbered and sure, it seems likely that Frodo has failed in his quest to destroy the Ring in Mount Doom (especially if you’re watching the Extended Edition) but Viggo Mortensen’s Aragorn ensures that no one will be quitting any time soon. Not this day!

Bill Murray isn’t usually the guy you turn to for sincere, inspiring words of comfort. He’s more the type to puncture any attempt at same, and probably to fast-talk his opponents into giving up and going for a karaoke session while he’s about it. But after his heart grows two sizes during the course of Scrooged, he makes a plea for kindness and niceness from all mankind. He still does it in a recognisably Murray, manic and scattershot way, but that just makes him all the more compelling. Someone hire this man to play Santa Claus.

Stirring sports speeches are limited to American Football. Miracle On Ice chronicles the based-on-truth tale of how the US Olympic hockey team triumphed over their Russian rivals. Kurt Russell's the speech-giver here, playing coach Herb Brooks. "Tonight, we are the greatest hockey team in the world," he tells them. You'll feel a swell of pride and inspiration too.

“You think water’s fast? You should see ice.” Samuel L. Jackson’s been around the block more than once, and he’s seen the worst of mankind. It’s with the weight of that history behind him that he takes charge and orders his fellow survivors of a marine disaster to start pulling together and quit arguing. His speech also has what is, unquestionably, the greatest punchline on this list. Still, it achieves the desired effect once everyone has quit screaming.

If in doubt, steal from classical history, something that David Wenham’s Dilios demonstrates with aplomb here. In actual history, the one survivor of the 300 was so shamed by his survival that he executed a suicidal one-man attack on the Persians at this Battle of Plataea, but Wenham seems more in control and also like he has quite a bit of back-up. “The enemy outnumber us a paltry three-to-one,” notes Dilios triumphantly. Why, it was hardly worth the Persians turning up.

Good Will Hunting

Here’s an inspirational speech well-suited to highly-paid sports teams and the enormously talented. Ben Affleck’s argument is, basically, that if you’re lucky enough to get extraordinary chances in your life, it’s your duty to the rest of us schmoes to actually take those chances and run with them as far as you can. If you can get past the shellsuit and the hair, he’s basically Yoda-like in his wisdom.

Most people only remember the last word – “Freedom!” – but the rest of the speech is pretty killer too. Mel Gibson’s William Wallace starts off by puncturing his own legend, and acknowledges the urge to cut and run in the face of a far superior English force. But then he reminds his men what they’d be missing if they do, and soon they’re all back on side and facing down the hated English. By the end of this speech, you’ll all hate the English with them – even if you are one.

Coach Carter

You’d expect the inspiration in this basketball film to come from the titular no-nonsense coach, played by a fiery Samuel L. Jackson. But in fact it’s one of his players who nabs the best lines, as he and the team sit studying to keep their grades as high as their scores. There is a little cheating here: Rick Gonzalez’ Timo actually steals his inspirational speech from Marianne Williamson (it’s sometimes wrongly attributed to Nelson Mandela) but he delivers it well so we’re going to allow it.

While it’s his skills in the ring that he is most lauded for, Rocky Balboa is something of a poet to boot. An incoherent one, certainly; a poet who says “I guess” a lot more often than Wordsworth might like, but a poet nevertheless. His moving words here, as he single-handedly ends the Cold War and ushers in a new era of East-West relations, are just one example. Another is…

Rocky Balboa

If his last speech was incoherent – in fairness, his rhythm may have been thrown off by the translator – this one verges on incomprehensible when he really gets going. Still, there’s real passion in Rocky’s plea for one last shot and an argument that’s applicable to all sorts of situations of institutional injustice or unfeeling bureaucracy.

Those who've watched him on the modern Battlestar Galactica know that Edward James Olmos is a past master at giving speeches. Good Night, And Good Luck

This one is couched particularly at media moguls, but there’s a call for excellence and the highest moral standards here that we would all do well to live by. David Strathairn’s Edward R. Murrow, in a speech lifted directly from Murrow’s actual address to the Radio and Television News Directors Association in 1958, pleads for TV to inform as well as entertain. We feel that if more people saw this speech, Made In Chelsea would be cancelled immediately and reality TV would be banned, so spread the word!

Anyone who has ever flirted with a romantic interest knows the risk of being knocked back, and Jon Favreau's Mike is experiencing a crisis of confidence. Everything is going to be fine.

Charles Dutton’s second appearance on this list, after Rudy, sees him once again reminding lesser men (and women) to get with the programme, pull the finger out and generally stand up and be counted. But this time they’re facing unstoppable acid-blooded xenomorphs rather than American football players, so he has to be extra-emphatic.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End

Remarkably few women get to deliver inspirational speeches in movies – apparently they’re relegated to clapping admiringly from the sidelines. Thank goodness for Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley) who is elected King of the Pirates and rouses her troops into action for a last-ditch fight against the Lord Beckett’s overwhelming forces, led by the Flying Dutchman. She may not have quite the lungs of others on the list, but there’s no doubting her conviction as she calls for them to “Hoist the colours!” – the Jolly Roger – and sail out one last time.

The Replacements

One doesn’t expect lengthy speeches from Keanu “Woah” Reeves (although he’s done his share of Shakespeare actually) but he’s rarely more succinct and to the point than in this chat with his fellow Replacements. And in fact there are few speeches more likely to be effective in motivating an exhausted team for one last effort. “Chicks dig scars” could be used by virtually every example here to drive on the listeners.

Bill Murray at it again, and once more an unconventional speech. This time out, he's John Winger, a loser who decides that he and best pal Russell Ziskey (Harold Ramis) will join the Army. Stuck with a group of oddballs, and, after a night of partying, decides to rally his fellow troops. It works... Sort of. But Murray's typically laconic style works well for the speech itself.

The Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King

All seems lost for Samwise Gamgee (Sean Astin again) and Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood) as they lie, exhausted, on the slopes of Mount Doom. Frodo’s beyond endurance and raving as the influence of the Ring grows ever stronger on him, and his desperate straits drive Sam to one last push. It’s barely a speech, really – he uses his words better here – but there are few moments more inspirational.

The Shawshank Redemption

A quiet moment between Tim Robbins' Andy Dufresne and Morgan Freeman's Red became one of the more memorable moments in Shawshank , a movie with no shortage of them. And for those who are spending more time inside than perhaps they might be used to, Andy's musing on what he would do if he got out of prison are inspirational in themselves, even before he gets to that iconic line.

Sample Response 1:

My favourite movie is “The Shawshank Redemption”, a brilliant film adapted from Stephen King’s novella “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption”. The film carries the theme of hope and resilience against adversity.

“The Shawshank Redemption” resonates with me deeply because of its compelling narrative and powerful performances, particularly from Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. The film offers a profound message of hope, friendship, and redemption that leaves a lasting impression.

The story follows Andy Dufresne, a banker falsely convicted of murdering his wife and her lover. Sentenced to life at Shawshank State Penitentiary, Andy strikes up an unlikely friendship with Red, a long-term inmate. Despite the hardships, they foster hope and redemption through their enduring friendship and courage.

Sample Response 2:

My favourite movie is “The Pursuit of Happyness”, a biographical drama based on entrepreneur Chris Gardner’s nearly one-year struggle being homeless. The theme of the film is determination, perseverance, and the power of the human spirit in the face of overwhelming odds.

I love this movie for its inspiring storyline and its heart-touching performances, especially by Will Smith and his son, Jaden Smith. The story reminds us that success comes through hard work and persistence.

The story revolves around Chris Gardner’s life, struggling to make ends meet and striving for a better life for his son. Despite facing numerous challenges, he never gives up and finally lands a prestigious job as a stockbroker, changing his life forever.

Sample Response 3:

My favourite movie is “Interstellar”, a science fiction film directed by Christopher Nolan. The theme of the movie involves concepts of astrophysics, such as black holes, wormholes, and the theory of relativity, as well as the more human themes of love and sacrifice.

The reason I love “Interstellar” is that it beautifully blends science with emotion. The mind-bending concepts of space and time are intriguing, and the emotional depth of the characters makes the story truly captivating.

The movie’s plot is set in a dystopian future where Earth is becoming uninhabitable. A team of explorers, including former NASA pilot Joseph Cooper, embark on a journey through a wormhole near Saturn to find a new home for humanity. The film explores Cooper’s emotional struggle as he leaves his family behind to save mankind.

English Essay on “My Favourite Movie” English Essay-Paragraph-Speech for Class 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 CBSE Students and competitive Examination.

My Favourite Movie

All of us love to watch movies. A good movie is one in which we identify with the characters, share their joys and sorrows and become one with them.

‘Finding Nemo’ is the story of a father—son pair of clownfish living in the Great Barrier Reef. The father, Marlin, loses his wife Coral and the rest of his family to a fish attack. Due to a crack in his egg, his only child Nemo, grows up with one small, weak fin which makes his father very protective of him. Ignoring his father Marlin’s constant warnings, Nemo ventures out into the open sea and gets picked up by a diver and lands up in a dentist’s office in Sydney. The movie tells the heroic story of Marlin, who, with the help of a blue tang, Dory, leaves the safety of his coral enclave and embarks on a journey into the ocean to save his son.

Life like animation of each character makes them believable while the vivid colours of the fishes and the coral reef make the film a visual delight. The movie captivates every person’s heart with its simple yet endearing tale of the coming of age of Nemo and his father’s struggle to let go off his past and learn to trust his son’s abilities.

What Is Your Favorite Movie? IELTS Speaking (10 Example Answers)

The examiner might ask you about movies in part one of your IELTS Speaking test. In this case, they will probably ask, “What is your favorite movie?”

Let’s take a look at the best way to answer this question. Below, you can also read 10 good example answers ( go straight to the answers here ).

How You Can Answer

If you don’t have a clear favorite movie, just talk about any movie that you like or a movie you’ve seen recently.

The important thing is that you can remember the movie clearly and say a few things about it.

Using one or two sentences, you can talk about:

  • What kind of movie it is (action, science fiction, romance, comedy, animated, fantasy…)
  • What it’s about (very briefly)
  • Why you like it (or used to like it)
  • What happens (or happened) in the movie
  • Who the main characters are
  • Who stars in the movie (the actors)
  • Who directed the movie
  • When you last saw it
  • Anything else that comes to mind

A Common Problem: Translating Movie Names

Maybe you think of a movie you really love, but you don’t know how to say the movie name in English!

Don’t worry. It can be difficult to quickly translate the name of a movie into English.

If you don’t know the English name, just say something like ‘ My favorite movie is an American action movie about two policemen who… ‘

You can leave the movie name out, no problem. Just don’t waste ten seconds in silence trying to think of the English name.

But it might be a good idea to talk about a movie where you already know the title in English.   Or choose a movie like Titanic, Avatar, or Avengers, where the name is the same in every language.

Focus on Fluency, Not Grammar

In part one, don’t worry too much about using complex grammar or vocabulary.

Part one is only to warm you up . It’s better to speak as quickly as fluently as you can, without hesitation.

For this, simple English is fine.

Use the Three-Step YES Method

Also, keep your answers short in part one.

Don’t make the mistake of speaking for too long in your answers. Just 10 or 20 seconds of talking is fine.

You can use the three-step YES Method for all your part-one answers. Just say:

  • Y our answer (say a movie you like)
  • E xplain your answer (say why you like it) or add more details
  • S top talking (let the examiner know you’re ready for the next question)

Example Answers

Here are 10 good answers, which you can use for ideas.

1. My favorite movie is a classic romance movie called Titanic. It’s about a poor young man called Jack who falls in love with a rich young woman named Rose on board a huge ship that sinks at sea. It’s very romantic and tragic. It’s very moving and it always makes me cry.

2. I love this amazing science fiction movie called Avatar. It’s about humans trying to get special resources from another planet, which has tall blue aliens living there. The special effects and action scenes are incredible.

Lord of the Rings

3. Lord of the Rings is my favorite movie. It’s a trilogy of three movies, really. I love it because I’m a big fan of fantasy and I’ve read all the books as well.

The Lion King

4. I’ve always loved the Lion King, which is a wonderful animated movie about a young lion who has to become king of the animals. The best thing about this movie is the music, which is very inspiring and heart warming.

5. I think Avengers is such a cool movie. I love all superhero movies, but Avengers is my favorite. To my mind, Iron Man is the best character. He’s played by an actor named Robert Downey Junior.

6. I love Toy Story because I can watch it with my children and they love it as well. It’s a very charming story about toys that come to life at night.

The Big Lebowski

7. There’s a funny movie called The Big Lebowski that was a kind of cult classic movie when I was younger. I love it because the protagonist, who’s called Lebowski, is so laid back and hilarious.

8. My favorite movie is The Matrix, which is a really popular science fiction film. The plot is totally mind-blowing. And the fight scenes are out of this world.

Harry Potter

9. I’ve always loved the Harry Potter movies. I love fantasy stories like that, and I’ve also read all the books.

Don’t Know the English Name

10. My favorite movie is a film from my country about a soldier who goes to war to protect the people he loves. It’s a very moving story about brotherhood and friendship and making sacrifices for people you care about.

Now, It’s Your Turn

Give this question a go yourself. It’s best to practice by recording yourself.

Set up a voice recorder and ask aloud, “What is your favorite movie?”

Answer as quickly as you can, using the three-step YES Method.

When you’ve finished answering, listen to yourself, and think of any ways you could improve your answer.

Then… do it again!

Keep repeating this process and you’ll soon be ready for part one of your IELTS Speaking test.

What's Your Message?

Great Movie Speeches in 2 minutes (8 examples)

Movie speeches are a great opportunity see how much impact you can have in a short space of time.

I watched ‘ Fair Game ‘ last night (with Sean Penn and Naomi Watts) which ended with a powerful movie speech. Powerful and short . In fact, the best movie speeches are only about 100 seconds. (The Gettysburg Address was about 2 min long).

Hopefully these movies speeches will get you in the mood to produce powerful business presentations (most of which are longer than they need to be ).

And by the way, the speakers giving these movie speeches  don’t rush . There are long pauses . In fact, they generally speak at half the pace of most business presentations. Yet they convey so much.

You can say a lot in a minute or two if you clarify your ideas and craft your messages .

TRANSCRIPT:

“I ain’t draft-dodgin.’ I ain’t burnin’ no flag. And I ain’t runnin’ to Canada. I’m stayin’ right here.

You wanna send me to jail? Fine, you go right ahead. I’ve been in jail for 400 years. I can be there for 4 or 5 more.

But I ain’t goin’ no 10,000 miles to help murder and kill other poor people . If I wanna die, I’ll die right here, right now fightin’ you — if I wanna die.

You my enemy. Not no Chinese, no Viet Cong, no Japanese.

You my opposer — when I want freedom.

You my opposer — when I want justice.

You my opposer — when I want equality.

Want me to go to somewhere and I fight for you? You won’t even stand up for me right here in America for my rights and my religious beliefs. You won’t even stand up for me right here at home .”

A Beautiful Mind (2002)

my favourite film speech

“I’ve always believed in numbers and the equations and logics that lead to reason .

But after a lifetime of such pursuits, I ask,

What truly is logic? Who decides reason?

My quest has taken me through the physical, the metaphysical, the delusional — and back. And I have made the most important discovery of my career, the most important discovery of my life: It is only in the mysterious equations of love that any logic or reasons can be found.

I’m only here tonight because of you [wife, Alicia]. You are the reason I am. You are all my reasons . Thank you.”

Fair Game (2011)

(Less than 2 mins) Enlightening movie speech about the decision to go to war in Iraq. Watch the movie speech here.

“ How many of you know the 16 words in President Bush’s State of the Union Address that led us to war? (none) How many know my wife’s name? (everyone) .

How can you know one, and not the other? When did the question move from ‘Why are we going to war?’ to ‘Who is this man’s wife?’

I asked the first question, and somebody else asked the second. And it worked. Because none of us know the truth. The offence that was committed was not committed against me, it was not committed against my wife – it was committed against you. All of you.

If that makes you angry or feel misrepresented, do something about it.

When Benjamin Franklin left Independence Hall, just after the second draft of it, he was approached by a woman on the street, the woman said, ‘Mr Franklin, what manner of government have you bequeathed us? And Franklin said, ‘A Republic madam… if you can keep it.’

The responsibility of a country is not in the hands of a privileged few. We are strong and we are free from tyranny as long as each one of us remembers his or her duty as a citizen. Whether it’s to report a pothole at the top of your street, or lies in a State of The Union Address, speak out! Ask those questions. Demand that truth. Democracy is not a free ride man, I’m here to tell you.

But this is where we live. And if we do our job, this is where our children will live. God bless America.”

Wall street (1987)

my favourite film speech

“Well, ladies and gentlemen, we’re not here to indulge in fantasy , but in political and economic reality. America has become a second-rate power. Its trade deficit and its fiscal deficit are at nightmare proportions. Now, in the days of the free market, when our country was a top industrial power, there was accountability to the stockholder. The Carnegies, the Mellons, the men that built this great industrial empire, made sure of it because it was their money at stake. Today, management has no stake in the company!

All together, these men sitting up here [Teldar management] own less than 3 percent of the company. And where does Mr. Cromwell[CEO] put his million-dollar salary? Not in Teldar stock; he owns less than 1 percent.

You own the company. That’s right — you, the stockholder.

Teldar Paper has 33 different vice presidents, each earning over 200 thousand dollars a year. Now, I have spent the last two months analyzing what all these guys do, and I still can’t figure it out. One thing I do know is that our paper company lost 110 million dollars last year, and I’ll bet that half of that was spent in all the paperwork going back and forth between all these vice presidents.

And you are all being royally screwed over by these, these bureaucrats, with their steak lunches, their hunting and fishing trips, their corporate jets and golden parachutes.

The new law of evolution in corporate American seems to be survival of the un-fittest . Well in my book you either do it right or you get eliminated. In the last seven deals that I’ve been involved with there were 2.5 million stockholders who have made a pre-tax profit of 11 million dollars. I am not a destroyer of companies, I am a liberator of them!

The point is ladies and gentlemen that Greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed in all of its forms. Greed for life, money, love, knowledge, has marked the upward surge of mankind, and greed – you mark my words – will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the U.S.A .

Thank you very much.”

The Verdict (1982)

my favourite film speech

“Well…You know, so much of the time we’re just lost. We say, “Please, God, tell us what is right. Tell us what is true.”

I mean there is no justice. The rich win; the poor are powerless. We become tired of hearing people lie. And after a time we become dead, a little dead. We think of ourselves as victims — and we become victims. We become weak; we doubt ourselves; we doubt our beliefs; we doubt our institutions; and we doubt the law.

But today you are the law . You are the law, not some book, not the lawyers, not a marble statue, or the trappings of the court. See, those are just symbols of our desire to be just. They are, in fact, a prayer, I mean a fervent and a frightened prayer.

In my religion, they say, “Act as if you had faith; faith will be given to you.”

If we are to have faith in justice we need only to believe in ourselves and act with justice. See, I believe there is justice in our hearts .”

Malice (1993)

(90 seconds) One of the most devious movie speeches; where Alec Baldwin plays a Doctor intentionally losing a malpractice suit to collect a share of the insurance money. Watch the movie speech here.

“ The question is, “Do I have a ‘God Complex’ ?

Which makes me wonder if this lawyer has any idea as to the kind of grades one has to receive in college to be accepted at a top medical school.

Or if you have the vaguest clue as to how talented someone has to be to lead a surgical team.

I have an M.D. from Harvard. I am board certified in cardiothoracic medicine and trauma surgery. I have been awarded citations from seven different medical boards in New England; and I am never, ever sick at sea.

So I ask you, when someone goes into that chapel and they fall on their knees and they pray to God that their wife doesn’t miscarry, or that their daughter doesn’t bleed to death, or that their mother doesn’t suffer acute neural trauma from postoperative shock, who do you think they’re praying to? Now, you go ahead and read your Bible, Dennis, and you go to your church and with any luck you might win the annual raffle. But if you’re looking for God, he was in operating room number two on November 17th, and he doesn’t like to be second guessed.

Let me tell you something: You ask me if I have a God complex?

….and this side show is over.”

Gandhi (1982)

(Less than 2 mins) Movies speeches like this show how messages can change the world! Dramatic yet calm speech advocating a policy of non-violence while opposing an unjust law.

Person from the large, angry audience : “ In this cause, I would be willing to die! “

Gandhi : I praise such courage. I need such courage because in this cause I, too, am prepared to die. But, my friend, there is no cause for which I am prepared to kill . Whatever they do to us, we will attack no one, kill no one, but we will not give our fingerprints — not one of us.

They will imprison us, and they will fine us. They will seize our possessions, but they cannot take away our self-respect if we do not give it to them.

Audience Member : Have you been to prison?! They beat us and torture us! I say that we should —

Gandhi : I am asking you to fight! To fight against their anger, not to provoke it. We will not strike a blow, but we will receive them. And through our pain we will make them see their injustice, and it will hurt — as all fighting hurts. But we cannot lose. We cannot. They may torture my body, break my bones, even kill me. Then, they will have my dead body — not my obedience.

We are Hindu and Muslim, children of God, each one of us. Let us take a solemn oath, in His name, that come what may we will not submit to this law.”

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

(2 mins) Great movie speech where Morgan Freeman’s character ‘Redding’ addresses the parole board for the final time. Watch the movie speech here.

“ Parole Board Interviewer : Please, sit down. Ellis Boyd Redding, your files say you’ve served 40 years of a life sentence. You feel you’ve been rehabilitated?

Redding : Rehabilitated? Well, now, let me see. You know, I don’t have any idea what that means .

Parole Board Interviewer : Uh, well, it means you’re ready to rejoin society.

Redding : I know what you think it means, sonny. To me, it’s just a made up word, a politician’s word, so that young fellas like yourself can wear a suit and a tie and have a job. What do you really wanna know? Am I sorry for what I did?

Parole Board Interviewer : Well, are you?

Redding : There’s not a day goes by I don’t feel regret. Not because I’m in here, or because you think I should. I look back on the way I was then, a young, stupid kid who committed that terrible crime. I wanna talk to him. I wanna try to talk some sense to him — tell him the way things are. But I can’t. That kid’s long gone and this old man is all that’s left. I gotta live with that.

Rehabilitated? It’s just a bullshit word.

So you go on and stamp your form, sonny, and stop wasting my time. Because to tell you the truth, I don’t give a shit.

Parole Board Interviewer : [Stamp: APPROVED]”

The movie that I like the most is “Taarezameen per”. It is my favorite movie and I have seen it so many times. There are no bold scenes in this movie and people of every age can watch it. It is an emotional movie which always keeps me glued to the screen. It tells about the story of a boy who suffers from dyslexia due to which he is unable to identify speech sounds and how they relate to letters. Because of this disorder, he cannot excel in any activity.

He finds all the subjects difficult to study. Even with this disorder, he is very good at painting. However, he gets expelled from school because of his poor performance.

All the teachers tell his parents that their boy is not normal and he should be sent to school which is especially made for special children like him. Later, his parents send him to boarding school. There he sinks into a state of nervousness and fear because of new environment. Fortunately, he finds an art teacher there who is very supportive and caring.

His teacher realizes that it is not ishaan’s fault to get bad grades but a disorder which makes it difficult for him to focus. He visits ishaan’s home and gets surprised to see his drawings.

He also gets to know that ishaan’s dad does not understand him and often shouts at him for not getting good grades. Because of this, ishaan no longer paints and suffers from anxiety.

He gets motivated to improve ishaan’s writing and reading by using techniques developed by dyslexia specialists. These techniques help ishaan to score good grades in school. In the end, he also wins a painting competition because of his striking creative style.

I like how this story is relevant in today’s society. According to me, this is a movie which gives best moral to parents, teachers and every child. It is a marvelous piece of work which shows a perfect relationship between a teacher and a student. It highlights the issue that sometimes, parents do not understand that every kid is different.

If he is not good at studies then there must be some other thing which he is good at. He might be interested in painting, acting, singing or sports. Therefore, parents should not discourage their children but help them in what they like.

I like how the director of this movie has brought out a clear message that parents should not ignore the interests of kids and they should not snatch their childhood from them by giving them burden of getting good grades or efficient performance in every field.

Essay on My Favorite Movie Harry Potter

My love for movies started when I was a kid, and ever since then, movies have been my favorite pastime. From action-packed thrillers to romantic comedies, there’s a movie genre for every mood. But if I have to pick just one movie as my all-time favorite, hands down it would be the Harry Potter series.

For those who are not familiar with the name, Harry Potter is a fictional character created by British author J.K. Rowling. The series consists of seven books and eight movies, which follows the journey of a young wizard named Harry Potter, who discovers his true identity as “The Chosen One” and battles against the dark wizard, Lord Voldemort.

I was first introduced to Harry Potter when I was in elementary school, and I still remember the excitement of reading the books for the first time. The magical world of Hogwarts, spells, potions, and flying broomsticks had me completely captivated. As a kid, I would often daydream about receiving my acceptance letter to Hogwarts and attending classes with Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

When the movies were released, I was ecstatic! It was a dream come true to see my favorite characters and their adventures brought to life on the big screen. The cast, especially Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, and Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, did an incredible job of portraying their characters and staying true to the books.

One of the things I love most about the Harry Potter series is the way it tackles important themes such as love, friendship, courage, and good vs. evil. The characters face challenges and overcome them by staying true to their values and relying on each other for support. This message of unity and strength in the face of adversity resonated with me, and I believe it’s one of the reasons why the series has such a huge fan base.

Moreover, the world-building in the Harry Potter series is impeccable. J.K. Rowling’s attention to detail and ability to create a vivid and complex magical world is truly impressive. From Diagon Alley to Hogsmeade, each location has its own unique charm and adds depth to the story. The spells and magical creatures introduced in the series are also fascinating, and I love how each one has its own history and significance.

Apart from the story and characters, the music in the Harry Potter movies is another aspect that makes them stand out for me. The iconic theme song composed by John Williams never fails to give me chills, and it perfectly captures the essence of the series. The rest of the soundtrack is also beautifully crafted and adds to the overall magical atmosphere of the movies.

As I grew older, my love for the Harry Potter series only intensified. I started noticing and appreciating the deeper themes and symbolism in the story that went beyond just a tale of magic and adventure. The series also taught me valuable life lessons about courage, friendship, and standing up for what is right.

Even today, I find myself re-reading the books and re-watching the movies whenever I need a break from reality. The Harry Potter series has become a timeless classic, and I believe it will continue to capture the hearts of audiences for generations to come.

In conclusion, the Harry Potter series holds a special place in my heart as my all-time favorite movie. It’s not just about magic and adventure, but it’s a story about love, friendship, and overcoming challenges. The series has sparked my imagination and taught me valuable life lessons that I will carry with me forever. And for that, I will always be grateful to J.K. Rowling for creating such a magical world and to the cast and crew for bringing it to life on the big screen.

My Favorite Movie PK

Are you a big movie fan? Do you ever find yourself eagerly waiting for new releases, rewatching old classics, and discussing plot twists with your friends? If so, then you probably understand the feeling of having a favorite movie. For me, that movie is PK.

Released in 2014, PK is an Indian satirical comedy-drama directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The film stars Aamir Khan as the lead character, an alien who lands on earth and becomes stranded when his remote control to return home is stolen. He then embarks on a journey to retrieve it and encounters various aspects of human society, including religion, superstition, and love.

The first time I watched PK, I was blown away by its unique concept and thought-provoking message. The film uses comedy to address serious issues, making it both entertaining and meaningful. It challenges societal norms and beliefs, encouraging viewers to think critically about their own values.

One of the things I love most about PK is its ability to make me laugh while also making me reflect on larger societal issues. The character of PK himself is endearing and hilarious, with his childlike innocence and curiosity about human behaviors. Aamir Khan’s performance as PK is outstanding, bringing the character to life in a way that captures the audience’s hearts.

The film also has a stellar supporting cast, including Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput, and Boman Irani. Each actor delivers a memorable performance, adding depth and complexity to the film’s themes. The chemistry between the characters is palpable, making their relationships feel authentic and relatable.

One of the most impactful aspects of PK is its commentary on religion. The film presents a thought-provoking argument against blind faith and superstition, showcasing how religious leaders can exploit people’s beliefs for personal gain.

It also highlights the importance of questioning and understanding one’s own beliefs rather than blindly following societal norms. This message resonated with me deeply and has stayed with me long after watching the film.

In addition to its thought-provoking themes, PK also boasts stunning cinematography and a captivating soundtrack. The music adds emotion and depth to key scenes, enhancing the overall viewing experience. The film’s settings, from the bustling streets of Mumbai to the tranquil beauty of Rajasthan, further immerse viewers into PK’s world.

But what truly makes PK my favorite movie is its ability to make me feel a range of emotions. I laughed at PK’s antics, cried during emotional moments, and felt anger towards societal injustices portrayed in the film. It takes skillful storytelling to evoke such strong emotions from the audience, and PK does it flawlessly.

PK has received both critical and commercial success, becoming one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. It also won several awards, including Best Film at the 60th Filmfare Awards. However, what matters most to me is its impact on society and its ability to spark important conversations.

The film’s message is timeless and relevant, making it a must-watch for people of all ages and backgrounds.

In conclusion PK is more than just a movie to me. It’s a thought-provoking masterpiece that challenges societal norms and encourages viewers to question their own beliefs. Its unique blend of comedy, drama, and social commentary makes it my favorite movie, one that I will continue to rewatch and recommend to others. If you haven’t seen PK yet, do yourself a favor and add it to your must-watch list. Who knows, it may become your favorite movie too. So, what are you waiting for? Grab some popcorn and hit play on PK – an unforgettable cinematic experience awaits!

Essay on My Favorite Movie Fast and Furious:

The Fast and Furious franchise has been a staple in the action movie genre for over two decades. With its adrenaline-fueled car chases, heart-stopping stunts, and diverse cast of characters, it’s no wonder that this series has become a favorite among fans worldwide.

My love for this franchise began when I first watched The Fast and the Furious back in 2001. From the very first race scene, I was hooked. The sound of revving engines and the sight of sleek cars racing through the streets had me on the edge of my seat. But what truly drew me in was the chemistry between characters Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Conner.

Their bromance and loyalty to each other despite their differences resonated with me. It’s not just about fast cars and action-packed scenes, but also about the bond of family and friendship that has kept this franchise going strong.

One of the most appealing aspects of the Fast and Furious series is its diverse cast. From street racers to former criminals, each character brings their own unique skills and personalities to the table. And as the franchise grew, so did the representation of different cultures and backgrounds.

The shift from street racing to heists in Fast Five not only upped the ante with thrilling action sequences but also introduced us to fan-favorite characters like Han, Tej, and Roman. Even more diversity was brought to the franchise with strong female characters like Letty, Mia, and most recently Hattie Shaw. Seeing people from all walks of life come together and form a strong bond is what makes this series stand out for me.

But it’s not just the characters that make this franchise special; it’s also the crazy stunts and over-the-top action sequences. From driving cars off cliffs to jumping between skyscrapers, each movie manages to push the limits of what we thought was possible. And the fact that most of these stunts are done practically is a testament to the dedication and hard work put in by the cast and crew.

It’s also worth mentioning how well this franchise has evolved over time. From humble beginnings as a street racing movie, it has now become a global phenomenon with spin-offs, video games, and even a live show. The Fast and Furious franchise has proven that it can adapt and continue to entertain audiences with each new installment.

While I have enjoyed all the movies in this franchise, there are a few that stand out for me. Fast Five, in particular, holds a special place in my heart. It was the first movie that fully embraced the heist aspect of the series while still maintaining its signature car chases and fight scenes. The addition of Dwayne Johnson’s character, Luke Hobbs, also added an extra layer of excitement to the movie.

Another favorite of mine is Furious 7. Not only did it have some of the most thrilling action sequences in the franchise, but it also served as a touching tribute to Paul Walker, who tragically passed away during filming. The emotional impact of his absence was felt throughout the movie, and it truly showed how much this cast had become a family both on and off-screen.

In conclusion, the Fast and Furious franchise holds a special place in my heart as my favorite movie series. Its diverse cast, heart-pumping action sequences, and themes of family and friendship make each movie a joy to watch. While the franchise may have started as a simple movie about street racing, it has now become a global phenomenon that continues to entertain audiences worldwide.

And with more movies and spin-offs in the works, I can’t wait to see what other exciting adventures this franchise has in store for us. So, if you haven’t watched any of the Fast and Furious movies yet, I highly recommend you give them a chance and join in on the ride. So buckle up and get ready for some high-speed action with the Fast and Furious franchise!

Essay on My Favorite Movie Twilight:

My favorite movie of all time is Twilight. I know, I know, it may sound cliché but hear me out. The reason why it’s my favorite movie goes beyond the romantic vampire and werewolf love triangle that captured the hearts of millions around the world.

Twilight is not just a typical romance film. It’s a story about self-discovery, acceptance, and the power of love to transcend all boundaries.

The movie is based on the novel by Stephenie Meyer and follows the story of Bella Swan, a teenage girl who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father. There she meets Edward Cullen, a mysterious and handsome vampire who she falls in love with. However, their love is not without challenges as they must navigate the dangerous world of vampires and werewolves while also facing their own personal demons.

One of the reasons why I love this movie is because of its strong female lead. Bella is not your typical damsel in distress waiting to be saved by her prince charming. She is independent, brave, and unafraid to stand up for what she believes in. Her character development throughout the series is inspiring and relatable, making her a role model for young girls everywhere.

Another aspect of the movie that I enjoy is its beautiful cinematography. The stunning scenery of the Pacific Northwest adds to the mystical and enchanting atmosphere of the story. It’s no wonder that fans from all over the world travel to Forks to visit some of the filming locations.

But what makes this movie truly special to me is its theme of love conquering all. Despite their differences, Bella and Edward’s love for each other remains strong and unwavering. It shows that true love knows no boundaries, whether it be race, social status, or even species.

Twilight may have its fair share of critics but for me, it will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s not just a movie, it’s a reminder that love is the most powerful force in the world and can overcome any obstacle.

In conclusion, Twilight is more than just a teenage romance movie. It’s a beautiful story about love, growth, and acceptance. Its captivating characters, breathtaking scenery, and timeless message make it my all-time favorite movie. It’s a film that I can watch over and over again, always finding something new to love about it. And for that, it will forever hold a special place in my heart.

So the next time someone asks me why Twilight is my favorite movie, I’ll simply smile and say “because it’s not just a movie, it’s a love story that transcends all boundaries.” So, if you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend giving it a chance and experiencing the magic of Twilight for yourself. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

Essay on My Favorite Movie Dangal:

As a movie buff, I have watched hundreds of movies spanning different genres. But there is one movie that stands out amongst them all and holds a special place in my heart – Dangal.

Dangal is an Indian sports biographical drama based on the real-life story of former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the movie stars Aamir Khan as Mahavir Singh Phogat and Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra as his daughters. The film was released in 2016 and has since become one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time.

What makes Dangal my favorite movie is not just its box office success, but the powerful message it delivers. The film challenges societal norms and stereotypes by showcasing the struggle of a father who defies all odds to train his daughters in a male-dominated sport like wrestling. It breaks gender barriers and inspires young girls to pursue their dreams, no matter how unconventional they may seem.

Apart from its impactful message, Dangal also delivers exceptional performances by its lead actors. Aamir Khan once again proves his versatility as an actor with his portrayal of Mahavir Singh Phogat. He not only physically transforms himself to play the role of a wrestler but also brings out the emotional side of a father who is determined to see his daughters succeed. Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra also shine in their roles as the Phogat sisters, displaying strong-willed and determined characters.

The film’s screenplay and direction are top-notch, keeping the audience engaged from start to finish. The wrestling scenes are choreographed brilliantly, making them look realistic and intense. The soundtrack of the movie is another highlight, with songs like “Dangal” and “Haanikaarak Bapu” becoming instant hits.

In addition to its commercial success, Dangal has also received critical acclaim. The film won several awards, including the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and three Filmfare Awards. It was also India’s official entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

In conclusion, Dangal is a movie that has it all – a powerful message, exceptional performances, and top-notch execution. It not only entertains but also educates and inspires its audience. For me, it will always remain my favorite movie and one that I highly recommend to everyone. So if you haven’t watched it yet, do yourself a favor and add it to your must-watch list. You won’t be disappointed. So, keep watching amazing movies!

Short Essay on My Favorite Movie Bahubali:

Bahubali is an epic Indian movie that swept the nation off its feet with its grandeur, action-packed scenes, and compelling storyline. Released in 2015, this movie was a game-changer for Indian cinema as it broke all box office records and took the world by storm.

Directed by S.S. Rajamouli, Bahubali tells the story of two brothers, Amarendra Bahubali and Bhallaladeva, who fight for the throne of the ancient kingdom of Mahishmati. The movie is set in a fictional world filled with political intrigue, love, war, and betrayal.

One of the reasons I fell in love with this movie is its incredible action sequences. From sword fights to larger-than-life battle scenes, Bahubali has it all. The special effects and CGI used in the movie are top-notch and make the fight scenes even more captivating.

But what truly sets Bahubali apart is its strong characters, especially its female lead Devasena. She is a fierce warrior who can hold her ground against any opponent. Her character challenges traditional gender roles and stands out as a symbol of strength and resilience.

Apart from the action, Bahubali also has a heart-wrenching love story between Amarendra Bahubali and Devasena. Their chemistry is palpable, and their love for each other is portrayed beautifully on screen. This adds an emotional depth to the movie that makes it even more impactful.

Moreover, what I admire about Bahubali is how it showcases the rich culture and traditions of India. The sets, costumes, and music all beautifully capture the essence of Indian mythology and history.

Aside from its entertainment value, Bahubali also has a powerful message about good triumphing over evil. Through the character of Amarendra Bahubali, the movie teaches us that true strength lies in compassion and not violence.

In conclusion, Bahubali will always hold a special place in my heart as it is not just a movie but an experience. It has set the bar high for Indian cinema and has left its mark on audiences worldwide. This movie truly represents the magic of storytelling and proves that with passion and dedication, anything is possible. So, if you haven’t watched Bahubali yet, do yourself a favor and experience this masterpiece for yourself. So, don’t wait any longer and dive into the world of Bahubali – you won’t regret it!

Speech on My Favourite Book

Preparing for public speeches can be daunting for many students. From overcoming stage fright to deciding on the right topic to finding the right arguments, the process is quite lengthy. That is why, in this blog, we have curated two samples for speech on My favourite book to help you prepare better for your speaking and listening tasks at school.

Speech on My Favourite Book (2-3 Minutes)

Good morning to all. My name is Reeva Raj and my topic for the English-speaking task is My favourite book. “ Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers”. Books are friends who never leave your side. I find this saying to be very true as books have always been there for me. I enjoy reading books. My favourite book is Harry Potter by J.K Rowling. This book is about wizards and the wizarding world. Harry Potter contains a total of seven books. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the 2nd book in the series and it’s my favourite.

There are so many things for readers to learn from the series Harry Potter. It teaches us the importance of friendship. It teaches us that someone’s background doesn’t determine his or her value as a person and many more lessons. It also showed me that no one in this universe is perfect. Everyone has good and evil inside them. I have learnt a lot from this great book. It remains one of the most precious treasures of mankind.

Speech for 5-10 Minutes

Good morning to all. My name is Reeva Raj and my topic for the English-speaking task is My favourite book. “ Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers”. Books are friends who never leave your side. I find this saying to be very true as books have always been there for me. I enjoy reading books. My favourite book is Iliad by Homer. The Iliad is an epic poem written by the Greek poet Homer. It tells the story of the last year of the Trojan War fought between the city of Troy and the Greeks. Achilles – Achilles is the main character and the greatest warrior in the world.

The Iliad teaches us many things, such as The importance of family is a central theme in the epic, the lovely scene of Hector with Andromache and his son is heartwarming all these years later. The friendship between Achilles and Patroclus is incredibly touching. The way Achilles fiercely and obsessively seeks vengeance for Patroclus has made many question if there was a romance between them.Priam losing his greatest son Hector and his supplication to Achilles to return his body so he and Troy can properly mourn its protector is another example of the theme of family.Achilles too lamenting his own father and how he shall never see him again, Priam and Achilles weeping together shows the futility of war as well as how family has affected these two enemies together.

The classics of Greece and Rome provide us with a set of connected stories and a cast of characters that teach us what it means to be human. They are also the basis of literature, teaching us about natural man (man at his best and worst, but natural man). They don’t give us the answers that we find in revelation, but they do give us the questions.

Books are wonderful – a bundle of pages with a cover on top brimming with content that stimulates the human imagination and helps us escape pressing reality. They are also beneficial to health. If you don’t like reading books, it’s definitely worth trying different genres until you find what interests you. Thank you for listening. I hope the speech was informative for you.

Cannes Film Festival Winners 2024: 'Anora' Wins Palme d'Or

S ean Baker's "Anora" has won the Palme d'Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, a jury headed by Greta Gerwig announced on Saturday.

The win for Baker's freewheeling film about a stripper and the son of a Russian oligarch becomes the fifth consecutive Palme winner to be distributed by Neon, which previously handled "Anatomy of a Fall," "The Triangle of Sadness," "Titane" and "Parasite."

TheWrap's review said of the film, "It's one of the most entertaining movies to play in Cannes this year, and also one of the most confounding: part character study of the title character (Mikey Madison), a sex worker from Brighton Beach who falls for rich Russian playboy Ivan (Mark Eydelshteyn); part look into the world of the super-rich, an arena Baker has studiously avoided in films like 'Tangerine,' 'The Florida Project' and 'Red Rocket'; part escalating nightmare comedy reminiscent of '80s gems like 'After Hours' and 'Married to the Mob.' It swings wildly back and forth while also hanging onto its heart, and it's just too much fun to worry about how much Baker is cramming into its two hours and 18 minutes."

In his acceptance speech, Baker dedicated the award "to all sex workers, past, present and future."

The Grand Prix, the runner-up award to the Palme d'Or, went to "All We Imagine as Light" by Payal Kapadia, the first Indian filmmaker to compete for the Palme in three decades.

Miguel Gomes was named the festival's best director for "Grand Tour."

Rather than a single award for best actress, the jury announced a group award for four actresses from Jacques Audiard's Spanish-language musical "Emilia Perez" : Adriana Paz, Karla Sofia Gascon, Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez. The win made Sofia Gascon the first trans actress to win the award at Cannes.

"Emilia Perez" also won the Jury Prize, which is essentially the third-place award.

Jesse Plemons won the best actor award for playing three different roles in Yorgos Lanthimos' twisted anthology film "Kinds of Kindness."

The screenplay award went to "The Substance" by Coralie Fargeat. A special award for screenplay went to Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof for "The Seed of the Sacred Fig," which he premiered after fleeing imprisonment in Iran for making the film.

Halfdan Ullman Tondel, the grandson of actress Liv Ullman and director Ingmar Bergman, won the Camera d'Or for the festival's best first film for "Armand."

Gerwig's jury also included directors J.A. Bayona, Hirokazu Kore-eda and Nadine Labaki and actors Lily Gladstone and Eva Green. It was the fourth Cannes jury in the last 10 years, and the seventh in the last 25, on which women outnumbered men.
