Essay on “My favourite Hobby “Gardening”” Complete Essay for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation and other classes.

My favourite Hobby “Gardening”

The small garden in front of my house is the result of my favorite hobby, gardening. Gardening is my favorite hobby. I think, it is the best of all the hobbies which one can follow with a lot of amusement and benefit to health. I have laid out a smaller of amusement and benefit to health. I have laid out a smaller garden in front of my house. When I sit in my smaller garden a great pleasure. Sweet fragrant flowers of different hues sweeten as my mind. It helps me in many ways. While working in the garden not only do I spend my time in a better way but also improve my health as thus I spend my time in better way but also improve my health as thus I take exercise unwillingly. It brings me close to Nature and I feel lost like Wordsworth in the beauty of blooms and blossoms around me.

The garden in front of my house is small, no doubt, but even then I am proud of it because it is the result of my own hard labor. There are smaller beds of flowers in which I grow seasonal flowers. When the plants bear blossoms, I feel a thrill of joy in my mind and take pride in my creative labor. Whenever any of my friends asks me anything about sowing and maintaining of plants. I give him information with elated feelings.

Surrounded by the beds of flowers is a smaller lawn with soft velvety green grass. I am very fond of this lawn ad take pride in maintaining it trim, tidy and neat. In the evening we sit in this lawn and talk chat and discuss several things. I have grown fruit fetes along the fringes of the grass lawn. Some of the fruit trees yield fruits but most of them are still young. Whenever any one of my friends comes. I offer him the fruits of my own garden with pride. The grapes, guavas and pomegranates of my garden are very sweet and juicy. Last year I planted a mango sapling which to the surprise of my friends, relatives and even myself, has borne fruit this year. Whenever any visitor comes to my house these days, I very proudly invite his attention to the hardly two feet tall tree that bears the fruit. This little garden is a place where I find peace and happiness.

Essay No. 2

Gardening is not very difficult. It involves preparing the soil, planting vegetables or flowers and paying attention to the garden. Many people make gardening their hobby and it is also a good form of exercise.

The first step in gardening is the preparation of the soil. If the soil is not god, the garden will not flourish. Dig the surface of the earth; then mix the top soil with manure and water. If you are planning a vegetable garden, prepare hedges for different vegetables you hope to plant; however flowers do not need hedges.

The vegetables or flowers that you will plant are often young plants in a water- proof bag. Dig a small hole , place the small plants along with the soil into the ground and cover with the mixed soil. Water the new plant.

After planting, you should pay close attention to your garden. This involves removing the weeds, removing dead leaves around the plants and watering the garden often.

Gardening makes one happy; when one is tired of studying or staying indoors, gardening gives one the opportunity to make light work outside. Moving around in the garden is also a kind of exercise for the body. A garden is also beneficial, as it provides people with flowers and vegetables.

Set 1: Essay On My Hobby Gardening

Hobbies are the best means of entertainment, knowledge and spending our leisure time. Hobbies bring happiness to our idle routine life. They keep us away from bad habits. Hobbies depend upon the likings of an individual. There are many types of hobbies- reading, stamp collection, coin collection, sports, singing, dancing, etc.

My hobby is gardening . I love nature very much. My parents are also very fond of gardening. I acquired this hobby from them. We have a spacious garden in the backyard. We have a couple of trees like mangoes , lemon, chikoo, and guava.

We also have a variety of flowering plants like Rose , Mogara, Chameli, Hibiscus, Lily, etc. I spend one hour in the evening in the garden. I regularly water the plants and manure them. I remove the weeds and do all the essential work there. I feel very comfortable when I am in my garden. All the plants and trees are my friends . I talk to them. They make me happy whenever I am in a bad mood. Working in the garden keeps me physically fit.

Many birds regularly visit our garden. They build their nests at suitable places. I enjoy watching them. I have got a good knowledge of birds. I can identify them and know their food habits. We get a good amount of fruits and vegetables from our garden. I spend a big part of my pocket money on my hobby. I keep on buying seeds, new plants, garden equipment, manure, etc. Some of my friends also have the same hobby. We discuss this with each other. We visit the flower and plant exhibitions held in the city .

Thus this hobby keeps me tension-free and fresh. I feel much nearer to God and Mother Nature when I am in the garden.

Set 2: Essay On My Hobby Gardening

A hobby is one’s best past time. It is something which while giving satisfaction is enjoyable too. But given a choice, gardening is a very pleasant and rewarding as a hobby. A little piece of land in front or at the back or around the house is enough to launch this hobby. After the day’s hard work, or even before the day begins early in the morning and then for the whole day on a holiday one can enjoy to indulge and involve himself in this hobby.

Right from digging the earth, beating down the moulds into fine-soil, then turning them into small beds, mixing the manure in the soil, one is ready to plant the seeds or the saplings or the seedlings and then softly watering them. In the process one has to select what grows where to give a real glorious glow to the piece of land which may be a pleasure to the eye as also productive for the hobbyists.

If the piece of land is big enough, one arranges and selects proper places for the fruit plants, the papaya, the lemon, the guava, the big banana or even the pomegranate and lichi, but in case it is just a small piece of land one limits oneself to the flowers and a few creepers.

Each day is a day of care and caution, with an eager and an expectant eye one watches the sprouting from the seeds, or the saplings or seedlings, taking roots, and standing up on their own. Gradually the flower seeds have shown up the sproutings and the seedlings showing up new leaves and the growth is watched with such a sense of satisfaction and enjoyment when finally the flowers bloom into their dazzling multi-coloured hues and there is, as if a riot of colours all around. ‘Dancing with the daffodils’ – this is what the great nature-poet Wordsworth has said and rightly so. The hobbyist’s heart also gets elated to watch the perfect result of his labours. And then after months of looking after the grape wine or the papaya or the guava or the banana in a bunch, show up their face first; it is a gratification indeed. The labour has been rewarded.

Thus goes on the game of gardening. Gardening, as a hobby has so many advantages. One can spend one’s leisure time in physical work, which exercises the body; the results elate the mind and the fruits fresh and free are a pleasure to be tasted. Spending spare time in useless gossip or straining the eyesight viewing the T.V. – all this is hardly a useful utilization of one’s leisure. You dig, you till, you soil with your hands, you even sweat in the process and the least of it all, you are constantly in the company of nature which company is never boring never tiring rather, it is ever rewarding in every way. You reap the fruits of your labour-what else can be so satisfying than that. You are face to face with the spirituality of the matter how from such a small seed gets produced such beauty, such lustre and such a result. God’s nature is wonderful

that’s what you have at last to feel and say. This is thus the most rewarding hobby, if one develops it and enjoys it too. The hobby of gardening can give us an insight in understanding the purport of what Wordsworth has said in these lines about nature. One impulse from the vernal wood May teach you more of man Of moral evil and of good Than all the Sages can.

Nature is the book from which one can learn all that the creation is about, the mysteries of life, the beauties of life and the bounties bestowed upon us by the creator.

Set 3: Essay On My Hobby – Gardening

Hobby is a work which we do in our spare time. Hobby is a favourite pursuit or interest apart from one’s occupation. It is different from regular work. Hobby keeps us usefully busy and provides a welcome change in the dull routine of life.

There is a wide range of hobbies. Some people sit in company and pass their leisure time in playing cards or chess. Some read books in a quiet corner of their house. Some take up gardening, stamp and coin collecting, photography, fishing, hunting, painting, clay modelling and so on. Whatever hobbies a man may choose, the main object should be to derive aesthetic pleasure, mental a relaxation, physical freshness and recreation from them.

My hobby is photography. It is a very useful hobby as it trains the mind as well as the eye. Photography develops taste for beauty and also makes us careful, smart and neat. I feel that there is no other hobby so interesting and useful as photography.

My uncle presented me a camera on my birthday and since then my interest in photography kept on increasing. I have a great collection of photographs in my album. I go to nearby hills, gardens and zoo and take photographs. Whenever I feel tired and bored, I look at the photos and get refreshed and get a great joy.

Gardening as my hobby

Short Essays on Gardening as my Hobby

Gardening as my hobby (600 words).

“Gardening brings me to God’s nature, plants, flowers, seeds, vegetables, fruits, on mother Earth.”

My hobby is gardening that I enjoy tremendously and like from the heart. I feel naturally attached to the world of Nature. Outdoor life is surely better than our indoor life of modern comforts and luxuries. It is only when the weather is extremely hot or cold that I like to stay indoors. But when the weather is fine and pleasant, I rush out to stay in the open atmosphere and natural surroundings. (That is, in fine weather, I desire to stay outdoors).

Gardening keeps us in two worlds at the same time (simultaneously)—the home and nature, that is, the world of our family and its joys and problems and the world of the trees, bushes, plants, and flowers and their charms. There is quite a big garden in our house. I go there early in the morning and work on the plants for an hour. On holidays, I work in the “green world” in the evening too. My work in the garden changes with the season. I plant new trees in the rainy season. I look after my small plants and protect them against the sun. At the end of the summer, I plant vegetables for the winter. At the end of the winter, I plant vegetables for the summer. I sow seeds of vegetables and flowers at the end of the summer. I do not work much in the autumn.

I have different kinds of roses in my garden. In the winter and spring, the rose flowers in red, yellow, golden, white, and other colors are simply enchanting (very delightful). Gardening gives me good exercise. I water the plants and soften the ground near their roots. Then I also cut away the extra, useless branches of the trees or plants. All this keeps me physically active and smart.

Gardening gives me real joy and satisfaction of the heart and mind. It takes me close to Nature, to the plants, trees, and earth, and I feel the freshness of things. While working in my garden, I see beautiful birds and hear their sweet chirping. For some time, I forget all the worries or problems of life. I am in a world much higher than the ordinary one of “duties and desires.” In that world, I am close to the beauties and music of Nature and to God Who created everything. What a pleasure it is to see the plants flowering and the trees growing new leaves! How sweet it is to see the results of one’s efforts early in the morning in a green garden!

Truly speaking, physical work in a garden or field gives us physical exercise and mental satisfaction. Both the body and mind get strengthened (or invigorated) in the fresh, natural. atmosphere. It is, thus, natural that I feel stronger and happier when I move back from my small garden to everyday activities. Resultingly, I understand my lessons better, move and walk at greater ease and eat the foods and fruits with greater desire.

From the garden of plants Dol move to the garden of inner joys: The flowers smile on the branches and leaves, The ideas dance on the heartbeats and in the mind.

Gardening as my Hobby (400 Words)

A hobby is an activity which is carried on in leisure time. A hobby is that activity and not of earning money.  It is a means of recreation pastime. It gives delight and helps in passing the leisure time. Any activity which is carried on for the sake of earning money ceases to be a source of pleasure. It becomes tiresome. A hobby, on the other hand, is an activity which is carried on entirely for the sake of pleasure which it gives. Thus, teaching is not a source of pleasure for a teacher who undertakes teaching as his profession. But it may be a source of pleasure for one who makes it his hobby.[the_ad id=”17142″]

Hobbies differ from person to person. There are as many hobbies as there are. men and women in the world. Tastes differ and so do hobbies. Someone may have stamp-collecting as his hobby, while another may find pleasure in reading books. Stamp-collecting, collection of coins, photography, swimming, gardening, kite-flying etc. are a few of the common hobbies.

Gardening is my hobby. I derive great pleasure from this hobby. At the back of my house, there is a small plot of land. It is my garden. I grow flowers and some vegetables of the season in this plot. Besides this, I have a number of flower pots in which I have grown some ever-green plants and some flowering plants. I indulge in my hobby early in the morning as soon as I am out of bed, or in the evening after I return from my college. I do not allow my hobby to. come in the way of my studies. I carry on gardening only in my spare time.

My hobby is a good hobby. It is useful in many ways. It gives me pleasure. It refreshes me when I am tired after the day’s hard work. In the morning, it brings me in touch with green plants and flowers. In this way, the lungs are filled with pure air. This is good for health. My hobby is health-giving. Besides this, it provides the family with fresh vegetables. Flowers, which I grow, decorate the house and make it look beautiful. My hobby has another advantage also. It is quite cheap. It does not place any extra burden on my parents.

Everyone should have one or the other hobby. Pakistanis, generally, do not have any hobby. They waste their leisure time in idle gossip. This is bad. They should try to have some hobbies. In this matter, they must not be guided by others but should select a hobby which suits their tastes and the circumstances of their lives. Pleasure is the chief end of a hobby, and so the best hobby is one which delights and recreates.

My Hobby – Gardening : Article, Essay, IELTS Cue Card, Speech

Introduction [essay on gardening].

A hobby is an activity done on regular basis in leisure time for pleasure and recreational purposes. It is not intended to be a source of income. With that being said, there are as many hobbies as there are people. Depending on your taste, any activity or sports can be made a hobby. Activities such as swimming, gardening, reading, et cetera are some of the most common hobbies. My hobby happens to be gardening.

Gardening and its wonders (Why Gardening is My Hobby?)

Ever since I was a kid I liked to be around plants and trees. Also, I was very much fascinated about gardening whenever I saw people planting trees in the neighborhood. As I grew up I started buying plants and practice gardening in my leisure time. I’ve learned a lot since then and now I’m a self-made gardener. It may not look like it but it is fairly easy to learn gardening and I can say that with my own experience. If you have no idea about gardening, it may seem like too much work and you may fear to mess things up, but it is okay to make mistakes. I too made silly mistakes in the beginning but I never stopped doing it because the activity gave me immense pleasure. I always had something to look forward to during holidays or lean work days. Also, I find spending time with nature very relaxing, especially after long work hours.

The first thing you want to do is set up soil bed. Based on where you live and the kind of access you have to resources, it is pretty easy as long as you don’t plan to cultivate exotic species which I won’t recommend for beginners. Start by buying seeds or plants you like that are native to your place. For starters applying and spreading organic compost and manure should suffice although you can go for some general fertilizers also. Just pay attention to the quantity you put in soil, less is better than more. Seeds can be spread on soil bed with a thin layer of soil on top. Just make sure that seeds are not densely packed. Another important thing is to water plants as per requirements. Avoid overwatering as it adversely affects plant’s health. Look up on the internet or some catalog to find water requirements for your plants. Above all it is necessary to understand that gardening is not a one-day thing, it requires consistency.

Conclusion (Speech On My Hobby – Gardening)

Developing any hobby is good as it helps to release stress and allows you to actually indulge in activities you really enjoy doing in leisure hours. Gardening just happens to be one great hobby. It also has benefits like allowing you to spend time with plants and trees in a clean and pollution-free environment. This is especially true if you do it in early morning hours before going to work. That’s what I do most of the time, except on the weekends. However, I always ensure that my hobby does not sabotage my family and other social commitments and it actually helps me maintain my workday productivity for the entire week. Having a hobby is great however while deciding to inculcate a hobby one should not follow others advice and should rather go for something that you really enjoy doing and which is compatible with your lifestyle. Pleasure from the activity is the most important of all considerations. And if you happen to choose gardening, welcome abroad!!

My hobby is reading books. Reading a book is one of my favorite pass times and since I work with words for a living it is also one of my favorite work tasks. There are no words that can describe my admiration and respect for the written word and the modest book that houses them. Even though great thinker of antiquity like Socrates despised the written word calling it unresponsive and dead we have to give out thanks to its ability to conserve knowledge for generations.

My hobby reading books is the best way to escape from the torment of the world and to rest in a world of imagination. Undisturbed by the troubles of my life, my mind can rest from all the stress it goes through every day and find comfort in the words of wise writers or happiness in those that like more light-hearted topics.

Not only do I read books but I also collect them and spend endless hours searching for the right edition for their collection. I even save up money so that I can buy books and extend my library or spend fortunes on rare historic manuscripts.

The fact of the matter is that there is no better way for me to rest and at the same time practice my brain by reading a book, so as far as my hobby reading books goes this way, it is the best pass time I can have. Believe me, once you start exploring the sea of stories written on paper you will never want to stop exploring.

Hobby is something that is of our interest and keeps us engaged in our free time with a free mind. A good habit will not only help us to escape from our daily cores but also keeps us peaceful. Studies prove that practicing a good hobby will keep us away from many mind related problems and loneliness as well.

Reading books is the best knowledge gaining hobby. My hobby reading books has helped me to improve my language too. When I start reading, I create my own imaginary and creative world to travel with the story.

Reading thriller novels will help me to travel to that world with mystery and stories with adventures will improve my creative side, as I am constantly imagining the scenario that’s happening in the story and so on. Thus my hobby reading books interest me the most, has helped me to understand the language better, create noble and ideal thoughts in me and more.

Inspirational and instructive books have always inspired my growing mind to follow the better path to achieve my life goal. By reading books I can be updated on the present world. A person with understandability towards anything will be able to acquire their desired heights more easily and books are molding me to be one.

Living amidst books makes me feel happier and loneliness has never touched me at any point in my life. Books have become my best friend since childhood and I can feel the positive changes they create in me.

“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”

We have all heard of this adage time and again and it also throws light on how important it truly is to make sure that we all have a hobby.

The game of cricket:

Well, my hobby is cricket as I have been enjoying this sport since a very tender age. I remember gazing from the winnow of my room and watching the grown-ups immerse themselves in a game of cricket. I would spend hours watching them and remembering the different shots, the way the bowlers threw the ball at different angles and even imagined myself excelling at cricket.

The need for passion:

I believe that regardless of what we choose, it is important for each one of us to have a hobby. My hobby is something which keeps me going and it adds to my verve and energy. If you develop a good hobby, it will make sure that you would have something to unwind your mind.

When I go out to play cricket, in that moment, I do not think of anything else as I am cool, composed and nothing else matters. So, if you have not yet found your thing which you can truly call as a hobby, I suggest you do so.

I knew my hobby since a tender age and it soon grew into my passion and I can say with utmost pride that I am quite good at cricket. When you truly love something, your zest will give you the kick to excel in it too.

I have a lot of hobbies to pass my time. One of such things is drawing. Even when I was a little child, drawing has always made me happy. Sitting quietly in a place, I can draw for hours. It keeps me busy and relaxes my mind. There is a little secret to why I love drawing so much.

As a person, I am less talkative. Because of that, there are very few friends in my life. The thing is that, instead of speaking out everything, I prefer to express my emotions silently. And drawing just helps me do that.

Sketching is not merely a pass time to me. God has given me a beautiful way to share my thoughts and feelings through drawing. It is an art that becomes my voice when I wish to be quiet. Moreover, drawing also helps me connect more with nature. Trees, birds, animals, rivers, clouds are some of the favorite things that I like to draw.

My art teacher praises the passion I have for drawing. She also appreciates the blending of shades and strokes of brushes when I paint something. My parents and friends always encourage me for the same.

I wish to pursue drawing for the rest of my life. It is my dream to become a true artist one day and that is only possible with regular practice and devotion.

Introduction:

My hobby is dancing. Dancing is the art of performing purposefully selected sequence of movements by humans. Dance is a beautiful hobby that slowly builds in an individual. Dancing becomes a hobby to people who like to listen to music because as they listen, they tend to accompany the beats with dance moves. Although some people might be enjoying music but they are unable to dance because dancing is a performance that requires a skill that not everyone can master.

How it began:

Ever since I was a child, I have been chubby and so my parents had to sign me up for dancing lessons so that I can get physically fit. The dancing lessons seemed enjoyable but when I joined the first class I was unable to dance. I developed a strong determination to learn how to dance because by nature I do not like to accept failure. Within a few weeks, I had learned how to dance and it grew in me and dancing became my hobby. I would dance everywhere and that is how I grew fond of my hobby dancing.

Benefits of My Hobby Dancing:

Through my hobby dancing, I was able to lose weight and my chubbiness was gone. The regular dancing that I have been doing has kept me fit. Sometimes I make money from dancing especially during the holidays. Dancing at events or festivals earns me money. At school, I have won awards because I participate in dance as an extracurricular activity. It is a great feeling to have dancing as my hobby because it is what I love and enjoy.

Who are we without our hobbies? Apart from our physical appearances, the collection of the things we do is what makes us distinct from the next person. While there are things we do simply because we have to, we do others because we love to.

Hobbies are things we do because we have a natural inclination to do so. They give us so much pleasure that we would spend our life time doing it. This is why people try to build their respective professions around their hobbies. By so doing, an ordinarily difficult task suddenly becomes simple.

My love for sewing:

Though I have a lot of hobbies, my love for sewing stands out from the crowd. It all started when my mother bought a sewing machine when I was younger. I was immediately fascinated by the mechanical excellence of the equipment. First, it was the way the machine rolled. Then I was puzzled about the thread movement and how it miraculously turned torn pieces into masterpieces.

Subsequently, my curiosity became a source of entertainment. I would play around the machine and time would disappear while I do so. I would cut my old clothing and run it through the machine just to see it move. Slowly and surely, I became enchanted with sewing so much that it dominated my thought and became my hobby.

Now, I would not leave a single week without creating something adorable with the sewing machine. A few moments spent away from this intriguing environment feels like an eternity. What’s more, I have found that sewing has a therapeutic effect on me. It helps clear my thought and keeps me focused on a single task. Though there is financial gain in this endeavor I do it simply for the thrill.

Me and my hobby:

Sewing is my hobby and it is refreshing to me but over time I realized that by virtue of my love for this craft I became interested in related fields. First, I have to create a sketch of what to sew. This process is a purely creative one. As I draw, I can picture what I would do to the real fabric when I eventually get on the machine. I also visualize what the eventual dress would look like on me or whoever would eventually wear it.

Then, I cut pieces of the fabric as outlined in my drawings. The cutting stage is mainly about precision. The materials have to be systematically shaped in such a way that it fits the measurement taken. Any deviation from this would lead to undesired results.

Finally, the pieces are carefully held together by the automated needle of the machine. This is the most fulfilling part of the process. This is so because seeing the conceptualized idea come to bare serves as an icing on the cake. However, the feeling of excitement I experience after the cloth is made quickly evaporates. I am immediately left with the desire to start over again. Though the process might seem mechanical or even uninspiring to an onlooker, I wouldn’t trade my hobby of sewing for anything else in the world.

Any activity which one does for pleasure is called as a hobby. It can anything ranging from reading books, spending time with your pets, travelling around, talking to new people, just anything which gives immense pleasure to a person and relieves a person of the tensions of daily life. I too have a hobby which is quite common in the world as so many people do it.

My Hobby, My Pleasure:

My hobby is reading anything knowledgeable be it the newspapers, magazines, short story books or the novel series. I just love to read. In fact, I have this good collection of books at home which I feel is the biggest treasure I have.

How it all started:

When I was in school we were asked to read the newspaper every day and come up with three national, three international and three sports news in the class. This was a sort of regular activity for us. It is from here that I gathered interest in reading newspapers. Slowly as we all grew up this hobby of reading newspapers in the morning developed into a full-time activity of reading which came around.

Overall these years, I have the pleasure of reading the Harry Potter series, which still remain the best, The Shiva Trilogy from Amish Tripathi, books from good authors both from India and abroad.

Books, Our best friends:

Life isn’t anything but difficult to live without friends. With regards to Books, they can be our closest friends ever. Great Books advances our brain with great contemplations and information simply like a decent friend. We can’t feel alone in the vicinity of books. We can learn numerous beneficial things while perusing a decent book. Books composed by well-known and experienced authors causes us to improve as a person and furthermore show us how to serve the general public in the most ideal way. When we are separated from everyone else, we can generally get a book and begin perusing to feel unwind.

Books are our closest companions since they rouse us to do incredible things throughout everyday life and conquer our disappointments. Books can be great or terrible, however, it is our duty to pick them wisely. Kinship with Good books makes you Good individual and companionship with Bad books make you a terrible individual. Books will dependably be there for you in your terrible occasions. Books motivate us to have dreams. Moreover, books convey a positive incentive to our life and make us a better human being.

We are exceptionally lucky to have such a large number of various choices out there today. Actually, there are whole sites committed to diversions and interests.

The most ideal approach to developing another hobby is to take a stab at something new. The world is loaded with magnificent, energizing exercises that we can investigate and embrace as our own. Obviously, we all are one of a kind and, accordingly, our interests and leisure activities change. In any case, when we discover an interest that we really appreciate and are enthusiastic about, we end up snared. It turns out to be a piece of our lives and encourages us in an exceptionally close to home way. Last, but not the least, hobby help us live our dreams which usually get ignored due to our busy lives.

A hobby is one’s favourite habit, activity or what a person chooses to do or what the person does usually for enjoyment and pleasure in his/her available leisure time. Having a hobby is a very good thing that can be developed at a point in one’s life from childhood all the way to adulthood but it is sometimes best to have a hobby from childhood. We all participate in some kind of activity in line with our interests that we derive joy and happiness from; this activity is our hobby. We all have different hobbies based on our interests, dislikes and likes.

Types of Hobbies:

There are a lot of different types of hobbies that we can show interest in and develop, examples of hobbies are singing, dancing, playing outdoor or indoor games, drawing, collecting antiques, bird watching, writing, photography, reading, eating, playing, sports, music, gardening, cooking, watching TV, talking and any other activity you can think of. Our different hobbies that become a source of earning money and a means of livelihood and we can build a very successful career out of our hobbies. A hobby is meant to be enjoyed in our leisure time but it can become a lot more than that.

My Hobbies:

One popular misconception is that we can have only one hobby; this is totally not true. As a child growing up, I loved and enjoyed cooking and I would spend hours watching cooking programmes and watching my parents cook. Sooner rather than later, I also started trying out different recipes and dishes I had seen on TV and sometimes even tweaked a few things and made delicacies of my own. Cooking gave my childhood so much joy and bliss which made it one of my hobbies, I could cook all day and I get just happy at the thought of trying out a new recipe. Another hobby of mine is soccer which is kind of an accidental hobby (if there is anything like that). I had always loved watching football (or soccer) and was pretty good at analysis and understanding of the game but I never really tried playing the sport because of my first hobby that is cooking which meant I was more of the indoor person. Fate would have it that one of my close friends was on the varsity soccer team and all the goalkeepers got injured so he told me about an open audition for the position of goalkeeper and I just decided to try out. I was wonderful at the try outs and got a spot on the varsity soccer team, I became a pretty brilliant goalkeeper and I look forward to every opportunity to get on the field of play. There is this feeling of fulfilment and satisfaction I get anytime I am on the field of play. It is very possible to have more than one hobby so open yourself to the possibilities of all the different activities and interesting things around us.

My Favourite Hobby:

My favourite hobby is gardening. I spend most of my leisure time when I am not cooking or playing soccer in gardening. Gardening has been a huge source of knowledge, education, delight and entertainment to me. I have had the opportunity to learn a lot of new things on flowers, plants, vegetables, butterflies and even birds from gardening. My parents have a little plot of land where I pursue and practice this hobby. I have different varieties of vegetables, flowers and a few fruit trees in my garden. Some of the vegetables I grow are carrots, tomatoes, cauliflower, cabbage, spinach, radish, chillies, bitter gourd, etc. I also grow flowers like jasmine, roses, lilies, merry gold, carnation, poppies, flux and forget-me-not. These flowers make the garden a delight to behold and give the garden a soothing fragrance.

There are a few fruit-trees in the garden including banana, mango, guava and pomegranate. The garden is visited often by quite a number of birds and there are even some birds are live permanently on the fruit trees. The chirping sound made by the birds and their sweet music gives the garden the perfect condition and makes it the ideal place to be.

Gardening has also helped my other hobby (soccer) by keeping me mentally alert, physically fit and very fresh. The ambience of the garden is highly invigorating, fresh and soothing; there is calmness to the atmosphere of the garden. The processes and activities involved in gardening include weeding, digging, grafting, cutting, maturing, watering and the tilling of the soil. All of these activities get me the needed physical exercise I need to make my body fit and keep me sharp mentally.

A lot of family members and friends appreciate my hobby gardening. Over the years, I have been able to develop skills needed in gardening, sometimes; my father also helps me maintain the garden. I have a worthy and wonderful collection of magazines and books on vegetables, flowers, fruit trees and also gardening overall. It is quite a wonderful experience to watch plants grow, develop and blossom.

I am not full of knowledge in gardening; sometimes, I get advice and help from a professional gardener so as to know the right thing to do. I spend a large chunk of my money purchasing manure, seeds, fertilisers, books on gardening and gardening tools and implements. I try to catch all the programmes on television about gardening, I visit plant and flower shows and also fruit and vegetable exhibition. I try my possible best to balance all my hobbies, studies and other engagements without hurting any one of them for the others.

Gardening motivates me and gives me a sense of purpose about what I can achieve with my life. Once I am gardening, I forget about all of my worries, troubles and problems of the world. I am my happiest when I am working in the garden or when I get to give my friends and my family members fruits from the garden.

Essay on My Hobby Gardening

Living in the world of hectic day routines and tough jobs, one always needs to get time for relaxation and refreshing their mind. Rising civilization has made the environment unnatural and unhealthy.  To get rid of all this for some time, a person can enjoy his off time wandering in parks, gardens, or places with lush green grass. The green color is a naturally refreshing color. To revive our minds and health we should engage ourselves in a natural hobby “gardening”. This is not only refreshing but is full of natural benefits. It helps to relieve our stress and makes us relax. Fresh air keeps our lungs healthy. Gardening can be described as “love for the garden and its inhabitants”. Here inhabitants are all creatures living in a garden like flowers, trees, butterflies or all insects, etc.

Gardening is My Hobby Essay

Essay-on-my-Hobby-Gardening

As responsible citizens, we should involve ourselves in this hobby. Gardening is taken as a hobby by several people, we can together contribute to improving our environment for better living. As we all are well aware of pollution in the air and other hazardous pollutants in our surroundings which made this place a hell to live. If we take an initiative to start gardening at a domestic level in our homes, we can add health and quality to the surroundings and atmosphere we are living in.

Gardening as a hobby is great fun, but it requires a lot of work and time too. To put the garden in order for blooming at its best and planting for the coming spring, some activities are of great importance to perform. One of the priorities is to spread and cultivate dung or peat moss over the garden soil, particularly if the garden is new. To ensure to get healthier and better planting in the garden, you need to add fertilizers and feed the soil with essential nutrients it needs before actually planting.

Keep in mind the few tips for gardening. The most important tip for planting is to grow a variety of crops and flowers in different parts of the garden than they were earlier grown. Rotation of crops aids to enhance the health of the soil as well as preventing soil from various diseases. The other point to be kept in mind is to keep on cutting and plucking shrubs and bushes in the plots or pots as they can take away the nutrients required by the plant you have planted.

Keep your environment healthy and green. Happy Gardening!

How To Write An Essay On ‘My Garden’ For Primary Classes

Key Points to Remember When Writing an Essay on ‘My Garden’ for Class 1, 2, and 3 Kids

10 lines on ‘my garden’ in english, short paragraph on ‘my garden’, long essay on ‘my garden’ in english for kids, what will your child learn from this essay.

Gardening is a fun hobby for children. It involves planting different types of plants and trees that bear fruits, vegetables, or flowers in a well-planned manner on a plot of land or in pots. It is an enriching activity that many families take up. Children are introduced to it by parents to help them understand the importance of learning how to grow a plant. Many children are familiar with gardening and will be confident while writing an essay on this topic. Those who haven’t engaged in gardening may get interested in the activity through this topic.

‘My Garden’ is a fairly advanced topic for young children. Here are some points to remember when composing an essay on the topic:

  • When writing about this topic, it is essential to talk about both the facts and how one feels about their garden.
  • Gardening can be done on the ground and in planters. Children who are exposed to gardening in planters can focus on the specifics of potted plants.
  • While writing short essays on your garden, stick to general points about gardening that are relatable.
  • When writing long essays, add facts about gardening and tell the story of your garden.

The easiest way to write about a garden is to break it down into small segments as one-liners. An essay for class 1 on gardens can include simple points about gardening. A class 2 essay can consist of more facts.

  • My garden is one of the most beautiful parts of my house. The different types of plants and flowers make it very decorative and attractive.
  • Gardening helps us learn about the cycle of life and how to nurture plants.
  • By growing plants in our house, we get fresh air during the day and it also makes our home look so pretty!
  • Gardening is the best way to develop a deep love and understanding of nature.
  • Many people grow good fruits and vegetables in their gardens. I prefer flowers as they are very pretty to look at.
  • Half of my garden is dedicated to flowering plants, and the remaining has vegetables and herbs planted by my grandmother.
  • The vegetables harvested from our garden taste fresh and better than what we buy from stores.
  • My flowering plants also attract plenty of birds, insects and butterflies.
  • My garden is a haven for these small animals, and I love watching them all day.
  • Gardens require regular maintenance, without which they die eventually.

Children used to gardening work will have no problem writing about it. For those who have little experience in it, this short essay will give them some ideas:

Gardening is my favourite hobby, and I think my garden is the best place in my house. I can spend many hours every day working in my garden, and being there makes me feel fresh and happy. I got interested in gardening because of my mother and grandmother. They grow many different types of herbs, fruits and vegetables, which we eat and enjoy. My interest in gardening grew after my mother encouraged me to plant carrot seeds in a small pot. After a few weeks of taking care of them by watering and adding manure, I could harvest some baby carrots. Ever since then, I have been totally hooked on gardening.

My garden is in a small plot of land in my backyard. We grow flowering plants closer to the building, where there is some shade and some sunlight. For the vegetables, we choose a spot with plenty of sunlight, which they require to grow big. I have to maintain the garden by watering it every day or else the leaves will fade. I like sitting in the garden and relaxing in the fresh scenery. When my friends come home, I show them all the new flowers and plants I have added.

Class 3 students are expected to write a long essay on gardening. Your child can start by arranging all the ideas appropriately and weaving them into an engaging narrative. Here is an example for a descriptive essay on ‘My Garden’ for children of class 3:

I have always loved nature and greenery in every place I visit. My parents often take me out of the city to experience the countryside and beautiful nature that makes me feel alive. My city life is busy, and my garden is the only escape to nature in the middle of all the concrete buildings. I feel lucky to have enough space in my house to grow a beautiful garden. My garden is in the patch of land right next to my window. Not just that, I have plants in pots all around our house, including the terrace!

There is a small patch of lawn in my garden for my family and friends to sit and enjoy a leisurely time. We have planted hedges on the sides of the walls that give the garden a beautiful look and feel. The hedges grow fast, so they need to be trimmed often. Over a dozen different types of flowering plants decorate the house all around. I have planted flowering varieties both in the ground and in the pots. The flowers attract birds and butterflies, and it is the best sight in the world.

My mother has planted various vegetables in the section of the garden that faces our kitchen. We love eating the fresh vegetables we harvest from the garden. Different seasons are suited for growing different vegetables, but we have cherry tomatoes all year round.

Since my window faces the garden, the plants and flowers are the first things I see every morning after I wake up. Whether I am studying or just relaxing, my garden is my place of peace and zen. All my friends like to come and sit in my garden because of how fresh it feels. Gardening is an activity I believe everyone should take up even if they don’t have much space in the house. They will be surprised at how well some plants can do in a simple pot!

Writing about gardening will teach your children how to write about a hobby they enjoy. Gardening is an activity that most children would be familiar with. However, some living in dense cities might not have been exposed to it. They might learn some new facts while thinking about gardening and get interested in trying their hand at it. The topic helps them ponder over the responsibility of tending a garden. It will also encourage them to observe the benefits of a garden and appreciate nature.

3 Superb Santa Clara University Essay Examples

What’s covered:, essay example 1 – ethical dilemma (food waste).

  • Essay Example 2 – Ethical Dilemma (Healthcare in Latin America)
  • Essay Example 3 – Why Santa Clara?
  • Where to Get Feedback on Your Essay

Santa Clara University is a private Jesuit university in California. The acceptance rate is around 50%, so it’s important to write strong essays to help your application stand out. In this post, we’ll go over some essays real students have submitted to Santa Clara University and outline their strengths and areas for improvement. (Names and identifying information have been changed, but all other details are preserved).

Alexandra Johnson , an expert advisor on CollegeVine, provided commentary on this post. Advisors offer one-on-one guidance on everything from essays to test prep to financial aid. If you want help writing your essays or feedback on drafts, book a consultation with Alexandra Johnson or another skilled advisor.

Please note: Looking at examples of real essays students have submitted to colleges can be very beneficial to get inspiration for your essays. You should never copy or plagiarize from these examples when writing your own essays. Colleges can tell when an essay isn’t genuine and will not view students favorably if they plagiarized.

Read our SCU essay breakdown for a comprehensive overview of how to write this year’s supplemental essays.

Prompt: At SCU, we push our students to be creative, be challenged, and be the solution. Think about an ethical dilemma that you care about that our society is currently facing. This can be something happening in your local community or more globally. How can an SCU education help you prepare for and address this challenge? (150-300 words)

When I am not studying or filling out college applications, you can find me in the kitchen trying a new recipe and experimenting with ingredients. Spending so much time cooking made me aware of the massive amount of food waste that I produce. So I changed my behavior; I now plan ahead the recipes I make to ensure that all ingredients will be used, only buy what I need for the week, and freeze leftovers for future use. Making these changes wasn’t easy. It makes me wonder how much harder it must be for larger institutions to scale up these solutions.

In my research of Santa Clara University, I came across the Food Recovery Network at SCU that aims to fight the same concerns I experience while in the kitchen. This community of dedicated students proves that there are possible ways to reduce food waste on large scales. I can contribute to help address this familiar challenge by involving myself with this network and the courses SCU offers in sustainable food systems. Additionally, SCU leads by example; their efforts in attaining food sustainability are inspiring to me as a potential student. They purchase locally grown produce and follow the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program for their dining services. Broadening its impact, SCU has made it a goal to become a zero-waste campus aligning with my values of sustainability to aid our environment. A university that shows this much care to attaining sustainable food options and reducing food waste is the perfect place for me to help be the solution.

What the Essay Did Well

This writer did a great job choosing an ethical dilemma to write about that they care about and that uniquely connects to Santa Clara University, which is exactly how you want to respond to a global issues prompt . Based on the anecdote about cooking at the beginning of the essay, it’s clear that food waste is an important ethical issue in the writer’s personal life. They describe working to change their behavior to address the issue after discovering that it was a problem through something they love, cooking! It was smart of the writer to use this as an opportunity to share a hobby that they may not have had the opportunity to include elsewhere on their application.

The essay is also clearly written and does a great job of providing details about why the writer wants to go to Santa Clara University. The second half of the essay answers the part of the prompt that asks: “How can an SCU education help you prepare for and address this challenge?” This half is written like a “Why This College?” essay, but narrowly focused on the college’s connection to the ethical dilemma discussed in the essay.

In a “Why This College?” essay, it’s important to use specific details. That’s exactly what the writer does here when they mention the Food Recovery Network and SCU’s adherence to the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Program. Mentioning these programs shows that the student has done their research on Santa Clara University, which goes a long way in showing that they want to be a student there!

Finally, the ethical dilemma that the writer chose is great. This essay shows that an interesting and unique topic doesn’t have to be so specific that the reader has never heard of it; rather, it’s something specific that the reader has a personal connection to and could connect to their interest in attending Santa Clara.

What Could Be Improved

One part of this essay that the writer could improve is the ending. They share an ethical issue they care about, why they care about that issue, and what the school is doing to address the issue. Then they end with, “A university that shows this much care to attaining sustainable food options and reducing food waste is the perfect place for me to help be the solution.” This response answers the prompt; however, the writer could have strengthened the ending by connecting SCU’s work back to the writer’s own future and goals.

An alternate conclusion sentence could mention how the writer plans to use the knowledge that SCU would give them to address food waste. This would allow the writer to remain the focus of the essay, rather than the focus at the end being on SCU’s programs to tackle food waste. Because while this is an essay about the student’s views and ethics, it’s also a chance for the student to share more about themself with the admissions officers.

Finally, the writer is currently under the word count. While it is okay to be under the word count, the writer could use this space to improve their conclusion. They could mention any ideas that they have for how SCU could better address the problem of food waste. Currently, what the school does well is included, which is great. However, if the writer chose to share their own ideas at the end, then it would help the reader better imagine a few ways that the writer will be a positive addition to the Santa Clara community.

Prompt 2 – Ethical Dilemma (Healthcare in Latin America)

“Coca-cola da más vida”, but does it really? In towns like San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico coca-cola can be found easier, at relative cost, and safer to drink than water leading to high levels of consumption. As imagined, such consumption has caused devastating health effects throughout Chiapas. In these under-resourced communities, the diabetes crisis has become a leading cause of death and its treatment has brought upon ethical dilemmas. Clinicians in these areas are forced to make life-saving or fatal decisions with minimal resources or support. With having family members in Mexico, the thought of losing them due to simple issues like dosage amounts is truly heartbreaking. Santa Clara’s fast-paced quarter system will allow me to pursue a major in bioengineering, biomolecular track, and a minor in Spanish and public health. Classes like Evidence-Based Public Health, Engineering World Health, and Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Design I & II, will provide me with a strong foundation for truly understanding the issues behind our world’s leading health problems and effectively advocating and helping to engineer new medicines in the US and Latin America. Also, the university’s strong focus on global engagement will allow me to go on cultural immersions to widen my perspective and engage in international internships to deepen my understanding of healthcare and medical research around the globe. Besides the amount of opportunity available for me overseas, the Santa Clara campus is oozing with its own. I can become involved with on-campus bioengineering research on topics such as protein engineering or utilize Handshake and the Career Center to apply for internships in Silicon Valley. No matter where my experiences at Santa Clara take me, I will apply the knowledge I received to create a world where we are one step closer to eliminating the medical disparities between us.

This “global issues” essay starts off with a strong hook, which immediately draws us in to the student’s topic. The level of detail, such as the specific entry point of San Cristóbal de las Casas and its unique problems, are both effective ways to make this essay shine out of a sea of other responses, right from the very beginning. Additionally, the author’s distinctive approach to answering the question helps present them as a passionate and sophisticated storyteller with deep knowledge and care for this issue.

The student also does a great job of citing highly specific details throughout their response. For example, naming specific classes that will set this applicant up for success is a great touch that shows this student did their homework on what at Santa Clara would aid them in their journey of solving this issue. They also show an understanding of Santa Clara’s bigger picture values, such as global engagement, which demonstrates that the author can think on both a large and small scale.

While this student does a great job of considering everything from particular classes to studying abroad, they also don’t limit themselves to imagining their life on campus. They also think beyond their college career, when they talk about utilizing Santa Clara’s alumni network and connections to position themselves well for internships and postgrad life. Colleges like to know that you have future plans, and will one day be an alum that they can be proud of. This student shows them that they’re prepared to take full advantage of their Santa Clara education not only on campus, but throughout their life.

The flow of this essay could be improved with the help of an editor or peer reviewer. Some of the sentences are awkward, and there are some grammar errors present. For example, “…will allow me to pursue a major in bioengineering, biomolecular track, and a minor in Spanish and public health” should read “…and minors in Spanish and public health.”

Additionally, in the line “Classes like Evidence-Based Public Health, Engineering World Health, and Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Design I & II, will provide me with a strong foundation for truly understanding the issues behind our world’s leading health problems and effectively advocating and helping to engineer…” there should be a “for” after “advocating.”

While these flaws don’t ruin the essay whatsoever, polishing it up would present the student in an even better light, as a student who is not only talented, but also detail-oriented. Finally, also on a structural level, this essay would look cleaner on the page if it were split into at least three paragraphs. Having just one big block of text is a little hard on the eyes, and using multiple paragraphs also makes the presentation of your ideas more organized, as it clearly shows your reader where one point ends and the next one starts.

For example, they could have one paragraph focused on introducing the issue, one on the academic resources at Santa Clara, and one on the university’s value of global engagement. That structure would allow the reader to focus on each point, one at a time, rather than getting all the information dumped on them at once.

Prompt 3 – Why Santa Clara?

When I started my college search, I could only envision myself at a big college 2 hours away from home. Santa Clara University was the school that changed it all. The moment my eyes landed on the site, everything clicked. From the small class sizes that would allow me to engage and form connections with my classmates and professors to the large state of California that is filled with opportunity; it all seemed to attract me. Though it’s a school small in size, the spirit and clubs are large in number. From clubs like Bread Lovers Club to Biomedical Engineering Society, the variety and diversity entices me. There are clubs like Together for Ladies of Color, where I will be an indispensable member who empowers the women around me. Furthermore, weekly Sunday mass will help me strengthen my connection with God and develop a good headspace for the new week so I can work hard and thrive in my classes and outside commitments. Overall, I will be a Bronco that works hard not only for herself but to better the community around her. I am devoted to becoming a Bronco alumnus working to change the world ad majorem dei gloriam.

This prompt is an example of the “Why This College?” prompt, which is best answered by doing some research and providing specific reasons for why the school you’ve chosen is the school for you. This applicant does an excellent job of answering that question, by talking about both academic considerations, like class sizes, and clubs and extracurricular activities, like Bread Lovers Club or attending Mass.

Through the examples provided, we get to know the author a bit more, which is another strength of this essay. Rather than only talking about aspects of Santa Clara that would appeal to anyone, this writer shows her unique interests through her selection of more personal aspects of the school. From this essay, we learn that the student is a woman of color who also attends church, loves bread, and is passionate about improving herself and her community. This means that the admissions committee isn’t just learning about what she loves about their school; they’re also learning what Santa Clara might gain by admitting her.

One thing that would strengthen this essay is being as specific about the academic draw of Santa Clara as the non-academic side, as that would give us an even clearer sense of the student’s personality. The prime location and small class sizes are attractive aspects of Santa Clara, but they don’t give us much information about the applicant. Almost anyone would be excited about these benefits, so they’re too general for this kind of essay.

In the same vein, these facts are self-evident, in the case of the location, or something that can be found at many other colleges, in the case of the small class sizes. This kind of prompt exists so that you can show off your research skills and deep knowledge of that school. Admissions teams read countless essays that talk about the most common compelling attributes of their school, so instead try to choose elements that will make you stand out as an applicant who is both unique and engaged.

Additionally, this essay could benefit from an anecdote to anchor it. While the image of stepping on campus is powerful, it’s one shared by many applicants who have had the opportunity to tour. Even a sentence or two describing a more personal moment that connects the student to Santa Clara would help illustrate that her future plans are rooted in her current life or values.

For example, after the line “From clubs like Bread Lovers Club to Biomedical Engineering Society, the variety and diversity entices me,” she could say something like “During the pandemic, I went a little overboard with the breadmaking trend, so I designed my own bird feeder so I didn’t have to throw out the bits my family couldn’t finish. Santa Clara is just the place for me to continue making these kinds of quirky connections between my interests.”

This addition would put the writer over the word count, so she would have to make cuts elsewhere in the essay. That’s okay, though, as it’s better to include fewer details about the school, but take the time to explain your personal connection to them, then to just pack in as much as possible.

If you don’t have an anecdote that fits with the aspects of Santa Clara that appeal to you, consider imagining what your future on campus would look like and describing that. Solid images or ideas (for example, imagining some of the hymns you might sing in Mass), versus stated commitments, help admissions teams better picture you on campus, and create a more dynamic essay structure, even within the limited space allowed for these short supplements.

Finally, like in the previous essay, the student’s writing would flow more smoothly with a paragraph break or two. For example, starting a new paragraph with “Though it’s a school small in size” would make sense, as here, the writer is pivoting from talking about her initial draw to Santa Clara, to more specific features of the school that are intriguing to her.

A’s Move to Sacramento Puts the City in an Unfamiliar Sports Role

The Major League Baseball team says it will move to the capital region from Oakland for at least three years.

By Ryan Lillis

A tarp with the Oakland A’s logo covering seats in a baseball stadium.

Sports fans in Sacramento suddenly find themselves playing the unfamiliar role of villain.

They endured years of nearly losing their only major-league franchise, the Kings of the N.B.A., to a bigger market with more money and more national stature. They were awarded a Major League Soccer expansion team in 2019, only to have the plan collapse when the billionaire leading the effort backed out during the pandemic.

The scars from those events are only now beginning to heal, and many Sacramentans swore they would never do unto others what was done to them.

But that’s what fans will have to come to terms with, now that the Oakland Athletics have officially announced that they will relocate 90 miles up the freeway next season and play their home games in the capital region while their permanent new home is being built in Las Vegas. The move will mark the end of the team’s 57-year tenure in Oakland — and the end of major-league sports in the East Bay.

The franchise, which won four World Series titles in Oakland, and whose chief baseball mastermind was portrayed by Brad Pitt in the film “Moneyball,” will begin competing next season in a minor-league ballpark where children now roll down a grassy hill behind right field and fans bring their dogs to Wednesday night games.

The stadium, Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, directly across the Sacramento River from downtown, will surely look different when the A’s take the field in 2025. Sacramento has long dreamed of being a Major League Baseball city, and there’s little doubt that the A’s will draw larger crowds than they have in Oakland the past few years, when the franchise’s owners seemed to go out of their way to alienate the passionate fan base.

More than a decade ago, I covered the lengthy effort by Sacramento leaders to prevent the Kings from moving to Anaheim, Virginia Beach or Seattle. Kings fans were just as anxious and distraught as A’s fans have been recently, viewing other cities with deep suspicion.

And now the Sacramento region has taken, at least temporarily, what belonged to Oakland.

“I can’t get over my fear, with everything we went through with the Kings, that if we in any way leveraged the city of Oakland and made it more difficult for the A’s to return there, then we are complicit in the very thing that would have outraged us just 10 years ago,” said Dave Weiglein, a Sacramento sports radio host known locally as “Carmichael Dave.”

Weiglein was among the most prominent faces of a fan effort to keep the Kings from moving away, and his passionate “why can’t we have nice things” approach to Sacramento sports resonates with a region that seems always to get close to, but never quite reach, its goals.

Many baseball fans in Sacramento are already seeing the A’s temporary residence with a mixture of excitement and skepticism.

Some are ecstatic that they will be able to see baseball’s biggest stars, like Aaron Judge of the Yankees and Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers, without driving two hours to a stadium in the Bay Area. They say that the A’s were going to leave Oakland anyway, and that Sacramento shouldn’t feel guilty about being a way station for the team.

Others are skeptical of the A’s principal owner, John Fisher, and his intentions — the A’s are not expected even to take Sacramento’s name — and feel that the city somehow allowed itself to be used against Oakland’s efforts to retain the team.

And, of course, residents are getting an earful from Bay Area die-hards who are livid at Sacramento for giving Fisher a path out of Oakland.

Will the A’s create a real connection with a region that seems to be in a perpetual state of trying to prove its worth? Or will they be just another Bay Area transplant taking out a rental for a while, only to move on to a splashier destination?

Sacramento clearly sees the next three years as an audition, in case the A’s deal in Las Vegas collapses. If that happens and Sacramento becomes the final landing spot for Oakland’s last remaining big league sports team, fans in the East Bay won’t have to travel very far to find their villain.

Stanford University selected Jonathan Levin, the dean of its graduate school of business, to serve as the university’s next president .

And before you go, some good news

Sharif Hussein Farrag is a ceramic artist. Alexandra Ann Plzak is a financial analyst. But as the saying goes, opposites attract.

The pair met in 2016 at a party at the University of Southern California, where Farrag was studying art and Plzak was majoring in math and economics. Despite their vastly different disciplines, the two hit it off and retreated from the gathering to Plzak’s house to watch “Kitchen Confidential” together.

A few months later, they began dating. They spent the rest of their college careers studying alongside each other — Farrag at work in the ceramics studio, and Plzak beside him, plugging numbers into Excel spreadsheets.

After college, they dated long-distance, with Farrag in Los Angeles focusing on his art, and Plzak four hours away in Paso Robles, working in finance for the Justin winery. When the pandemic hit, the two moved in together in L.A., and in March 2023, Farrag proposed.

The couple tied the knot in a ceremony last month , a week after Farrag showcased one of his works at Frieze Los Angeles, a contemporary art fair. The wedding was held at the Eden Garden Bar and Grill in Pasadena and blended their Catholic and Muslim upbringings.
