யானை முகத்தான்: திரை விமர்சனம்

ஆட்டோ ஓட்டுநரும் தீவிர விநாயகப் பக்தருமான கணேசன் (ரமேஷ் திலக்), வாடகைக் கொடுக்க முடியாமலும் கடன் நெருக்கடியாலும் திண்டாடுகிறார். ஏமாற்று வேலை செய்து பிழைப்பை ஓட்டுகிறார். அவர் வீட்டின் உரிமையாளர் மல்லிகா (ஊர்வசி), கணேசனிடம் கண்டிப்பு காட்டினாலும் பல வழிகளில் அவருக்கு உதவுகிறார். இந்நிலையில் விநாயகர் உருவம் எங்கு, எந்த வடிவத்தில் இருந்தாலும் கணேசனின் கண்களுக்கு தெரியாமல் போகிறது. திடீரென்று ஒரு நாள் கணேசன் முன் தோன்றும் ஒருவர், (யோகி பாபு) ‘நான் தான்’ விநாயகர் என்கிறார். கணேசன் நல்லவனாக, நேர்மையாக ஒருநாள் வாழ்ந்தால், தன் உருவத்தைக் காண்பிப்பதாக உறுதி அளிக்கிறார். இந்த நிகழ்வு கணேசன் வாழ்க்கையில் என்ன மாற்றங்களை ஏற்படுத்துகிறது என்பது மீதிக் கதை.

மலையாள இயக்குநர் ரெஜிஷ் மிதிலா, 'மனிதனின் உள்ளம்தான் கோயில், அதற்குள்தான் கடவுள் வசிக்கிறார், நல்லவராக வாழ்வதன் மூலம் மட்டுமே கடவுளை உணர முடியும்' என்னும் செய்தியைச் சொல்ல முயன்றிருக்கிறார். இதற்கு கடவுள் உருவம் தெரியாமல் போவது, கடவுள், மனித உருவத்தில் வருவது போன்ற விஷயங்களை நகைச்சுவையுடன் சேர்த்து கலகலப்புடன் சொல்ல நினைத்திருக்கிறார்.

ஆனால் படம் தொடங்கி, மையப் பகுதிக்கு வருவதற்கே நீண்ட நேரம் ஆகிறது. கணேசனின் வாழ்க்கைச் சூழல் விரிவாகச் சொல்லப்பட்டாலும் அவர் ஏமாற்றிப் பிழைக்க வேண்டிய நிர்ப்பந்தம் ஏன்? என்பது போன்ற விஷயங்கள் சரியாகச் சொல்லப்படாததால் கணேசனின் உணர்வுகளுடன் ஒன்ற முடியவில்லை. நகைச்சுவை முயற்சிகளும் சிரிக்க வைக்கவில்லை. முதல் பாதியின் பிற்பகுதியில் விநாயகர் உருவம் கணேசன் கண்ணுக்குத் தெரியாமல் போவதால் அவர் எதிர்கொள்ளும் உளவியல் சிக்கல்களும் விநாயகர் மனித ரூபத்தில் வந்ததும் நிகழும் உரையாடல்களும் ரசிக்க வைக்கின்றன. படத்தின் இரண்டாம் பாதியில் கடவுள், நன்மை, தீமை, மனிதநேயம் ஆகியவை தொடர்பான உரையாடல்கள் ரசிக்க வைக்கின்றன.

கணேசனுக்கு விநாயகரின் உண்மையான உருவம் உணர்த்தப்படும் இறுதிக் காட்சி சிறப்பாக உள்ளது. இதேபோல் உணர்வுபூர்வமான தாக்கம் செலுத்தும் காட்சிகள் கூடுதலாக இருந்திருக்கலாம் என்று தோன்றுவதைத் தவிர்க்க முடியவில்லை.

முதன்மைக் கதாபாத்திரத்தில் ரமேஷ் திலக் சிறப்பாகநடித்திருக்கிறார். ஊர்வசி வழக்கம்போல் மனதில் நிற்கும் நடிப்பைத் தந்திருக்கிறார். நண்பனாகக் கருணாகரன், கதாபாத்திரத்துக்குத் தேவையான நடிப்பைத் தந்திருக்கிறார். யோகிபாபு கச்சிதமான நடிப்பைக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறார். குறிப்பாக, கடவுள் தன்மைக்குத் தேவையான மந்தகாசப் புன்னகையை அழகாக வெளிப்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார். பரத் சங்கரின் பின்னணி இசைகாட்சிகளுக்கு வலுகூட்டுகிறது. கார்த்திக் எஸ்.நாயரின் ஒளிப்பதிவு படத்தின் அமானுஷ்ய உள்ளடக்கத்தைப் பார்வையாளர்களுக்குச் சரியாகக் கடத்துகிறது.

திரைக்கதையில் கூடுதல் கவனம் செலுத்தியிருந்தால் ‘யானை முகத்தான்' கொண்டுவந்திருக்கும் மேன்மையான செய்தி அனைவரையும் சென்றடைந்திருக்கும்.

தயாரிப்பு - த கிரேட் இந்தியன் சினிமாஸ் இயக்கம் - ரெஜிஷ் மிதிலா இசை - பரத் சங்கர் நடிப்பு - ரமேஷ் திலக், யோகி பாபு, கருணாகரன் வெளியான தேதி - 21 ஏப்ரல் 2023 நேரம் - 2 மணி நேரம் 7 நிமிடம் ரேட்டிங் - 2/5 தமிழ் சினிமா முன்னணி நடிகர்களை விட்டு அவ்வப்போது விலகி வரும். அறிமுக நடிகர்கள் கதாநாயகர்களாக அறிமுகமாவது கூட நடந்து விடும். நகைச்சுவை நடிகர்கள் கதாநாயகர்களாக மாறுவது கூட நடந்து விடும். ஆனால், இந்தப் படத்தில் பல படங்களில் சிறிய கதாபாத்திரமாக இருந்தாலும் முக்கிய கதாபாத்திரங்களில் நடித்திருக்கும் ரமேஷ் திலக்கை கதாநாயகனாக்கி படத்தை எடுத்திருக்கிறார்கள். இயக்குனர் ரெஜிஷ் மிதிலா, அவர் கதை மீதுள்ள நம்பிக்கையிலும், படத்தில் நடித்துள்ள நடிகர்கள் மீதுள்ள நம்பிக்கையிலும் இந்தப் படத்தைக் கொடுத்திருப்பார் என்று தெரிகிறது.

படத்தின் நாயகனாக ரமேஷ் திலக், ஆட்டோ ஓட்டுபவர். அவரது ஆட்டோவின் உரிமையாளரான ஊர்வசிக்கு ஆட்டோ வாடகையும் தராமல் வீட்டு வாடகையும் தராமல் சில பல வருடங்களாக ஏமாற்றிக் கொண்டிருப்பவர். ஏமாற்றுவது அவர் கூடவே பிறந்தது போல நடந்து கொள்பவர். இருந்தாலும் விநாயகர் மீது அதிக பக்தி உள்ளவர். அப்படிப்பட்டவர் முன் விநாயகர், யோகி பாபு ரூபத்தில் நேரில் வருகிறார். ஒரு நாள் யாரையும் ஏமாற்றாமல், நேர்மையாக வாழ வேண்டும் என்று சொல்கிறார். அதன்படி நடக்க ஆரம்பிக்கிறார் ரமேஷ். அடுத்து என்ன நடக்கிறது என்பதுதான் படத்தின் மீதிக் கதை. அறிமுகமான காலத்திலிருந்து பல படங்களில் சிறிய கதாபாத்திரங்களாக இருந்தாலும் தனது யதார்த்தமான நடிப்பால் திரும்பிப் பார்க்க வைத்தவர் ரமேஷ் திலக். நகைச்சுவை மட்டுமல்லாது குணச்சித்திர வேடங்களிலும் நடித்தவர். இந்தப் படத்தில் அவருக்கு கதாநாயகன் வாய்ப்பு. வழக்கம் போலவே அவர் நடிப்பில் எந்தக் குறையும் வைக்கவில்லை. படத்தின் ஆரம்பத்திலும், அதன் பின் இடைவேளைக்குப் பிறகும் தான் படத்தில் யோகி பாபு இடம் பெறுகிறார். நகைச்சுவைக் காட்சிகள் அதிகம் இல்லை என்றாலும் வாழ்க்கையின் அர்த்தங்கள் சிலவற்றை இந்தக் கதாபாத்திரம் மூலம் உணர்த்துகிறார் இயக்குனர். படத்தில் கதாநாயகி என யாரும் கிடையாது என்பது ஆச்சரியமான விஷயம். ரமேஷ் திலக் நண்பனாக கருணாகரன், வீடு, ஆட்டோ உரிமையாளராக ஊர்வசி இருவர் மட்டுமே மற்ற கதாபாத்திரங்களில் குறிப்பிட வேண்டியவர்கள். படத்தின் கிளைமாக்சுக்கு முன்பாக வரும் காட்சிகள் இதற்கு முன்பு வெளியான சில பல படங்களை ஞாபகப்படுத்துகின்றன. ஒளிப்பதிவும், எடிட்டிங்கும் படத்தைக் கொஞ்சம் தூக்கி நிறுத்துகிறது. இசை பரவாயில்லை ரகம் கூட இல்லை. “கடவுள், அறை எண் 305ல் கடவுள், ஓ மை கடவுளே” வரிசையில் வந்துள்ள மற்றுமொரு படம் இது. படத்தை சுவாரசியமான விதத்தில் சொல்லும்படியான ஒரு கதையைத் தேர்வு செய்த இயக்குனர், அதற்குரிய திரைக்கதையையும், காட்சிகளையும் அமைக்கத் தவறிவிட்டார். ரமேஷ் திலக், யோகிபாபு, ஊர்வசி, கருணாகரன் என நட்சத்திரங்களைத் தேர்வு செய்தும் அவர்களுக்குரிய காட்சிகளை சரியாக அமைக்கவில்லை. ஸ்கிரிப்ட்டில் இன்னும் கவனம் செலுத்தியிருக்க வேண்டும். யார் கடவுள் ?, என்பதற்கு 'அன்பே சிவம்' பாணியில் ஒரு கிளைமாக்ஸை வைத்திருக்கிறார் இயக்குனர். யானை முகத்தான் - பக்திமான்

மலையாளத்தில் ‘லால் பகதூர் ஷாஸ்த்தி’, ‘வரி குழியிலே கொலபாதகம்’, ‘இன்னு முதல்’ என மூன்று ஹிட் படங்கள் டைரக்ட் செய்தவர் ரெஜிஷ் மிதிளா.

இவர் ‘யானை முகத்தான்’ படம் மூலம் தமிழுக்கு வருகிறார்.

இதில் விநாயகர் வேடத்தில் நடித்துள்ளார் யோகி பாபு. இவருடன் ரமேஷ் திலக், ஊர்வசி, கருணாகரன், ஹரீஷ் பேரடி, குளப்புள்ளி லீலா ( ‘மருது’ பாட்டி ), நாகவிஷால் ஆகியோர் நடித்துள்ளனர்.

கதைக்களம்…

ஆரம்பக் காட்சியில்.. ஒரு புதையலை ஒரு மரத்தடியில் புதைத்து வைத்து அதன் மேல் ஒரு கல்லை நட்டு வைக்கிறார் ஒருவர்.

கிட்டத்தட்ட 22 வருடங்களுக்கு பிறகு அங்கே ஒரு கோயில் உருவாகிறது. அதன் அருகே இருக்கும் ஒரு டீக்கடையில் யோகி பாபு அமர்ந்து கொண்டு ஒரு சிறுவனுக்கு கதை சொல்கிறார்.. இப்படியாக ஆரம்பமாகிறது

ஆட்டோ டிரைவர் ரமேஷ் திலக்.. ஆட்டோ என்றாலே அவர் கண்டிப்பாக ரஜினி ரசிகன் தான்.. ஊருக்குள் பல பேரிடம் கடனை வாங்கி திருப்பித் தராமல் இழுத்தடிப்பவர் ரமேஷ் திலக்.. நிறைய பொய்களை சொல்லி ஏமாற்றுபவர்.

ஆனாலும் இவருக்கு விநாயகர் பக்தி அதிகம். கடன் தொல்லையால் அவதிப்படும் ரமேஷ் திலக்கிற்கு சில தினங்களில் திடீரென விநாயகர் தென்படுவதில்லை. ஆனால் ஊர்வசி & கருணாகரன் கண்களுக்கு தெரிகிறார்.

ஒரு கட்டத்தில் யோகிபாபு விநாயகராக வருகிறார்.. நீ நல்லவனாக மாறினால் மட்டும்தான் இனி நான் உன் கண்களுக்கு தென்படுவேன் என்கிறார்.

கடவுள் அவனின் குறைகளை தீர்த்தாரா.? இறுதியில் என்ன ஆனது? கடவுள் இருக்கிறாரா? என்பதுதான் மீதிக்கதை.

கேரக்டர்கள்….

கதையின் நாயகன் ரமேஷ் திலக் என்றாலும் முதல் பாதியில் அவரது கேரக்டர் எந்தவிதமான ஈர்ப்பையும் ஏற்படுத்தவில்லை. ஆனால் இரண்டாம் பாதியில் அதை சரி செய்துள்ளார்.

கடவுளாக வந்து பல கேள்விகளுக்கு விடை சொல்லி இருக்கிறார் யோகி பாபு.. ஜாதியை கடவுள் உருவாக்கவில்லை. உலகத்தில் எத்தனை ஜாதி இருக்கிறதோ அத்தனை கடவுள்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள் என்கிறார்.

மக்களிடம் கடவுள் எதையும் எதிர்பார்க்கவில்லை.. அதே சமயம் எல்லாம் விதிப்படிதான் நடக்கும்.. அதை கடவுளால் கூட மாற்ற முடியாது என்கிறார் யோகி பாபு.

ஊர்வசி கேரக்டர் படத்திற்கு பலம் சேர்த்துள்ளது.. ஏனென்றால் படத்தில் காட்டப்படும் ஒரே ஒரு பெண் அவர் மட்டும்தான். ஆனால் இது போன்ற ஒரு நல்ல ஹவுஸ் ஓனர் யாருக்கும் கிடைக்க மாட்டார்கள்.

நாயகனுக்கு கடன் கொடுத்த ஹரிஷ் பெர்ரடி மிகவும் சாந்தமாக தன் பணத்தை திருப்பி கேட்பது எல்லாம் நம்பும் படியாக.

நட்சத்திர அந்தஸ்து உள்ள கேரக்டர் தேவை என்பதால் கருணாகரனை படத்தில் வைத்துள்ளார்கள் போல அவருடைய கேரக்டர் பெரிதாக ஈர்க்கவில்லை.

ஆனால் வட இந்திய தாத்தாவாக வருபவரின் கேரக்டர் நம்மை கவர்கிறது.

கஷ்டத்துல உதவாத கடவுள் என்ன கடவுள்?” போதையில் வண்டி ஓட்டுவது.. குற்றம் செய்வது உள்ளிட்டோரை கடவுள் தண்டிப்பார் என்பது போலவும் வசனங்கள் உள்ளது.. ஆனால் போதையில் வண்டி ஓட்டி பலரை கொன்றவர்களுக்கு தண்டனை கிடைத்திருக்கிறதா என்பதற்கு கடவுள் பதில் சொல்வாரா.??

நம்மிள் எல்லோருக்குள்ளயும் ஒரு விஷம் இருக்கு…அதுதான் சுயநலம்..” போன்ற வசனங்கள் ஆங்காங்கே ஈர்க்கின்றன.

இறைவன் வெளியே எங்கேயும் இல்லை.. அவர் உனக்குள் இருக்கிறார்.. நீ நேர்மையாக நடந்து கொண்டால் அவர் உனக்கு தென்படுவார்.. என்கிறார் இயக்குனர்

கடவுள் வரும் காட்சிகளுக்கு பரத் சங்கர் பில்டப் இசையை கொடுத்துள்ளார்.

படத்தின் டைட்டில் கார்டு ரசிகர்களை நிச்சயமாக கவரும்.. ஒளிப்பதிவு இசை எடிட்டர் தயாரிப்பாளர் என ஒவ்வொரு பெயரும் வரும்போது அதற்கு ஏற்ப டைட்டில் கார்டு காட்டப்படுவது சிறப்பு.. பொதுவாக இதுபோன்ற கிரியேட்டிவ் மலையாள இயக்குனர்களுக்கு கைவந்த கலை.

ஒளிப்பதிவு சிறப்பு.. ஆனால் ஐந்து கேரக்டர்களை மட்டுமே மீண்டும் மீண்டும் காண்பிப்பது ரொம்ப போர் அடிக்கிறது.

யோகி பாபு, ரமேஷ் திலக், ஊர்வசி, கருணாகரன், வட இந்திய தாத்தா, சிறுவன், டீக்கடைகாரர் எனப் படத்தில் மொத்தம் 7-8 கேரக்டர்களை வைத்து யானை முகத்தானை இயக்கி இருக்கிறார்.

படத்திற்கு கொஞ்சம் கலகலப்பு ஊட்டி.. ஒரு ஹீரோயினை கொடுத்திருந்தால் இன்னும் சுவாரசியம் கூடியிருக்கும்.

இதே படத்தின் மலையாள பதிப்பில் விநாயகருக்கு பதிலாக கிருஷ்ணர் கடவுளை காட்டி இருக்கிறார்கள் என்பது கூடுதல் தகவல்.. ஆக மாநிலத்திற்கு மாநிலம் கடவுள் வேறுபடுகிறார் என்பதுதான் உண்மை..

தெய்வமச்சான் விமர்சனம் 3.25/5..; மகிழ்ச்சி மச்சான்

மார்டின் நிர்மல் குமார் இயக்கத்தில் நடிகர்கள் விமல், நேகா, அனிதா சம்பத், பாலா சரவணன், ஆடுகளம் நரேன், பாண்டியராஜன், தீபா, வேல ராமமூர்த்தி ஆகியோர் நடிப்பில் உருவாகியுள்ளது ‘தெய்வ மச்சான்’.

கதைக்களம்..

சிறு வயது முதலே விமல் மற்றும் பால சரவணன் இருவரும் பங்காளி முறை. விமலின் தந்தை பாண்டியராஜன். விமல் தூங்கும் போது சில தினங்களில் எதிர்பாராத விதமாக ஒரு கனவு வரும்.

அந்த கனவில் வேல ராமமூர்த்தி வருவார். அவர் குறி சொல்லுவார். இவர் இறந்து விடுவார்.. அவர் இறந்து விடுவார்.. என்பார்.. அவர்களும் ஓரிரு நாட்களில் இறப்பர். விமலின் அம்மா இறந்துவிடுவார் என்பார். அம்மாவும் இறந்துவிடுவார்.

அது ஒரு புறமிருக்க.. தன் தங்கை அனிதாவிற்கு மாப்பிள்ளைகளை தேடிக் கொண்டிருப்பார் விமல்.. ஒவ்வொரு வரனும் ஒவ்வொரு காரணத்தால் தட்டிக் கொண்டே செல்லும்.. ஒரு கட்டத்தில் நல்ல வரன் கிடைக்க பேசி முடிப்பார் விமல்.

அன்று இரவு தூங்கும் போது உன் தங்கைக்கு கல்யாணம் நடைபெற்ற 2வது நாளில்.. உன் தங்கை புருஷன் மச்சான் இறந்து விடுவார் என்பார்.

இதனையடுத்து குழப்பமான விமல் வேறு வழியில்லாமல் தன் மச்சான் எந்த வித பிரச்சனைக்கும் ஆளாகாமல் பார்த்துக் கொள்வார். மச்சானை காப்பாற்ற போராடுவார்.

இறுதியில் என்ன ஆனது.? தன் தங்கை வாழ்க்கை என்ன ஆனது.? மச்சான் இறந்து விட்டாரா? என்பதுதான் மீதிக்கதை.

கேரக்டர்கள்…

முதல் பாதி முழுவதும் தங்கைக்கு மாப்பிள்ளை தேடும் பாசமுள்ள அண்ணனாக வருகிறார் விமல். பின்னர் மச்சானுக்காக உருகி உருகி பத்திரமாக கவனிப்பது என தெய்வமச்சான் ஆக அசத்தியிருக்கிறார்.

ஆனால் இடைவேளை வரை பெரிதாக படத்தில் சுவாரஸ்யம் இல்லை.. பாடல் காட்சிகளும் பெரிதாக கவரவில்லை.

முதல் பாதியில் எடிட்டர் நிறைய காட்சிகளை வெட்டி எடுக்கலாம். படம் மிகவும் போர் அடிக்கிறது. ஆனால் இரண்டாம் பாதியில் அதனை சரி செய்துள்ளார்.

இயக்குநர் மார்டின் நிர்மல் குமார்.. ஜாலியாக ஒரு குடும்பக் கதையை சொல்ல வேண்டும் என நினைத்து அதனை திறம்பட கொடுத்துள்ளார் இயக்குனர்.

ஆனால் அவர் தேர்வு செய்த கேரக்டர்கள் படத்தின் மீதான எதிர்பார்ப்பை குறைத்து விட்டது.. முக்கியமாக படத்தின் நாயகி நேகா சுத்தமாக பொருந்தவில்லை.. அனிதாவும் சரியான தேர்வு இல்லை.

கிளைமாக்ஸ் காட்சியில் அந்த மச்சான் யார்.? என்ற கேரக்டர் சுவாரஸ்யம் கூட்டுகிறது.

சாகுந்தலம் விமர்சனம்..; சமந்தா காதல்.!?

விஜய் நடிப்பில் வெளியான கில்லி படத்தின் ஒரிஜினல் படமான ஒக்கடு என்ற படத்தை இயக்கியவர் இந்த குணசேகர்.

மேலும் அனுஷ்கா நடித்த ருத்ரமாதேவி என்ற சரித்திர கால படத்தையும் இயக்கியிருந்தார். தற்போது இவரது இயக்கத்தில் உருவாகியுள்ள படம் தான் சாகுந்தலம்.

விஸ்வாமித்திர முனிவருக்கும், மேனகைக்கும் பிறக்கும் குழந்தை சகுந்தலை (சமந்தா).

ஒரு அடர்ந்த காட்டுக்குள் இருக்கும் முனிவர்கள் நிறைந்த பகுதியில் இந்த குழந்தையை விட்டுச் செல்கின்றனர். இந்த குழந்தையை பார்க்கும் அங்கு உள்ள மடத்து மாணவர்கள் தங்களது குருவிடம் சொல்கின்றனர்

அதன்பின்னர் கன்வ மகரிஷியின் மகளாக வளர்கிறார். தன்னுடன் இருப்பவர்கள் மட்டும்தான் அன்பையும் பாசத்தையும் காட்டுவார்கள் என சமந்தா நினைத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும் வேளையில் அந்நிய தேசத்திலிருந்து வரும் ராஜா இவரை கண்டதும் காதல் கொள்கிறார் துஷ்யந்தனான தேவ் மோகன்.

ஒரு கட்டத்தில் இருவரும் காதலித்து ரகசிய திருமணமும் செய்து கொண்டு தாம்பத்தியத்தில் ஈடுபடுகின்றனர்.

அப்போது சமந்தா கர்ப்பமாகி விடுகிறார். நான் என் நாட்டிற்கு சென்ற பின்னர் உன்னை ராஜ மரியாதையோடு அழைத்துச் செல்கிறேன் என வாக்குறுதி கொடுத்து செல்கிறார்.

இதன் இடையில் சமந்தா ஒரு மாபெரும் முனிவரின் சாபத்திற்கு ஆளாகிறார்.

என்னை கண்டு கொள்ளாத உன்னை அந்த ராஜாவும் கண்டு கொள்ள மாட்டார் என சாபம் விடுக்கிறார்.

அதன் பிறகு என்ன ஆனது.? என்பதுதான் படத்தின் கதை. மகாராணியாக மாறினாரா சமந்தா? ராஜா இவரை கண்டு கொண்டாரா என்பது தான் கதை.

கதையின் நாயகியாக சமந்தா. மடத்தில் இருக்கும் போது ஆனந்தமாக இருப்பார் என்றால் அப்போதுமே சோக முகத்துடன் காணப்படுகிறார்.. காதலன் கைவிட்டு சென்றபோதும் மிகவும் சோகமாக காணப்படுகிறார்..

ஆக மொத்தம் படத்தில் சமந்தா சிரிக்கும் காட்சிகள் குறைவு. அவரின் வேகமும் பெரிய ஈர்ப்பை ஏற்படுத்தவில்லை.

துஷ்யந்தனாக தேவ் மோகன்.. நல்ல உயரம், விரிந்த தோள்கள், தீர்க்கமான கண்கள் என அரசருக்கே உரித்தான கம்பீரத்தோடு வலம் வருகிறார்.. அவரின் கண்களைப் பார்க்கும் எந்த ஒரு பெண்ணும் காதல் கொள்வாள் என்பதைப் போல காட்சிப்படுத்தி இருப்பது சிறப்பு.

சமந்தா தோழியாக வரும் அதிதி பாலன் ஓகே. துர்வாசராக வரும் மோகன்பாபு நிறைவு.

மேனகையாக மதுபாலா தன் பிள்ளைக்காக கலங்கி நடனம் ஆடி மனதில் நிறைகிறார்.

படகோட்டியாக பிரகாஷ்ராஜ். ஏன் ஒரு பாடலுக்கு மட்டும் வருகிறார்.??

மணிசர்மா வித்தியாசமான இசைக்கருவிகள் மூலம் இசையை அமைத்துள்ளார். மல்லிகா..மல்லிகா.. பாடல் மட்டும் மனதில் நிற்கிறது.

ஜோசப் வி. சேகர் ஒளிப்பதிவு நம்மை பல காட்சிகளில் வியக்க வைக்கிறது.

ஒரு புராண கால கதையை படமாக்குவது மிக எளிதான காரியம் அல்ல. அதற்கு கலை இயக்குனரின் கைவண்ணம் தான் பக்க பலம் கொடுக்கும். இதிலும் அப்படி கொடுத்திருக்கிறார்.

ஆனால் சில காட்சிகளில் கிராபிக்ஸ் காட்சிகள் அப்பட்டமாக தெரிகிறது. முக்கியமாக மிருகங்கள் காட்டப்படும் போது.. நிறைய காட்சிகளை கிரீன் மேட் வைத்து எடுத்துள்ளதும் தெரிகிறது. இவைகளை இன்னும் கலை நுணுக்கத்தோடு கவனித்திருக்கலாம்.

பிரம்மாண்ட அரண்மனையை காட்டும்போது பிரமிக்க வைக்கிறது. பாகுபலி படத்தில் கூட இப்படி ஒரு அரண்மனையை நாம் பார்க்கவில்லையே என்ற உணர்வு ஏற்படுகிறது.

இது போன்ற படங்களை 3டியில் படமாக்கி இருந்தால் குழந்தைகளும் நிறைய காட்சிகளை முக்கியமாக விலங்கு காட்சிகளை ரசித்திருப்பார்களே இயக்குனர் குணசேகர்.

ருத்ரன் விமர்சனம் 2.75/5..; ஓவர் டோஸ்

அப்பா நாசர்.. அம்மா பூர்ணிமா.. இவர்களின் மகன் ராகவா லாரன்ஸ்.. இவரின் காதலி பிரியா பவானி சங்கர். ஒரு கட்டத்தில் மனைவியாகிறார்.

இவர்களின் குடும்பம் மகிழ்ச்சியாக இருக்கும் தருணத்தில் மிகப்பெரிய கடல் பிரச்சினையால் அதிர்ச்சியில் மரணம் அடைகிறார் நாசர். அதன் பின்னர் வேறு வழியில்லாமல் கடனை அடைக்க மிகப்பெரிய வேலைக்கு லண்டன் செல்கிறார் லாரன்ஸ்.

அதன் பின்னர் சில நாட்களில் பிரியாவும் வெளிநாடு செல்கிறார். இந்த சூழ்நிலையில் வீட்டில் தனியாக இருக்கும் பூர்ணிமா மர்மமான முறையில் இறக்கிறார்.

அதற்கு என்ன காரணம்.? இந்த சூழ்நிலையில் வில்லன் சரத்குமாருக்கும் நாயகன் லாரன்ஸ்க்கும் மோதல் உருவாகிறது..

சரத்குமார் யார்.? அவரிடம் லாரன்ஸ் மோத என்ன காரணம்? இறுதியில் என்ன ஆனது? என்பதுதான் படத்தின் கதை.

சமீபகாலமாக லாரன்ஸ் நடித்த படங்கள் பேய் படங்களாக அமைந்தது.. அவருக்கு வெற்றியை கொடுத்தது.. தற்போது மீண்டும் அவரது வழக்கமான மசாலா சண்டை காட்சிகள் அப்பாவித்தன ரொமான்ஸ் சமூக ஆர்வம் பொதுத்தொண்டு என மீண்டும் வலம் வந்திருக்கிறார்.

இது பார்த்து பார்த்து சலித்து போன விஷயம் என்பதால் நம்மால் படத்துடன் பெரிதாக ஒன்ற முடியவில்லை.

லாரன்ஸின் நடன அசைவுகளும் ஆக்ஷன் காட்சிகளும் வழக்கம்போல கைத்தட்டல்களை அள்ளினாலும் புதிதாக மேற்கொண்டு இருக்கலாமே என்ற எண்ணம் தோன்றுகிறது..

தற்போதைய ட்ரெண்டிங் நாயகி ப்ரியா பவானி சங்கர் இதில் நாயகி.. தனக்கு கொடுக்கப்பட்ட வேலையில் கச்சிதமாக பொருந்தி இருக்கிறார்.. ரீமிக்ஸ் பாடலுக்கு ஆட்டம் போடுகிறார்.. ஆனால் கஷ்டமான அசைவுகளுக்கு லாரன்ஸ் ஆட்டம் போட பிரியா எளிதான அசைவுகளுக்கு மட்டும் நடனம் ஆடுவது என்ன லாஜிக்.? நடனம் ஆட கூட நடிகை முயற்சிக்க மாட்டாரா?

ருத்ரனின் அம்மா, அப்பாவாக பூர்ணிமா – நாசர், நண்பராக காளி வெங்கட், காவலராக இளவரசு என அனைவரும் தங்கள் பங்களிப்பை சிறப்பாக செய்துள்ளனர்.

சினிமாவில் ஆரம்ப காலங்களில் வில்லனாக நடித்து பின்னர் ஹீரோ ஆனவர் சரத்குமார்.. இந்த படத்தில் மீண்டும் மிரட்டல் வில்லனாக தெறிக்க விட்டுள்ளார் சரத். நாயகனுக்கு நிகராக வில்லத்தனத்தை காட்டியிருக்கிறார்.

ஜி.வி. பிரகாஷ் இசையில் பாடாத பாட்டெல்லாம் ரீமிக்ஸ் பாடல் ஆட்டமும் தாளமும் போட வைக்கிறது. சாம் சிஎஸ்-ன் பின்னணி இசை சூப்பர்.

சினிமா பாடல்களை மற்றவர்கள் பயன்படுத்தி பார்க்கலாம்.. ஆனால் ஒரு தனியார் ஆல்பத்தை இந்த படத்தில் பயன்படுத்தி இருப்பது இசை அமைப்பாளரின் இசைத்திறனை கேள்விக்குறியாக்கியுள்ளது.

ஆர்.டி. ராஜசேகர் ஒளிப்பதிவில் படத்தின் மேக்கிங் ரசிக்க வைக்கிறது..

முதல் முறையாக இயக்குனர் அவதாரம் எடுத்த தயாரிப்பாளர் பைவ் ஸ்டார் கதிரேசனுக்கு வாழ்த்துக்கள்.

நாலு காட்சி ஒரு பைட்டு.. நாலு காட்சி ஒரு பாட்டு.. நாலு காட்சி ஒரு பைட்டு.. என வருவது ஒரு வகை என்றாலும் தேவையில்லாத இடத்தில் பாடல்கள் வருவது வெறுப்பை ஏற்றுகிறது.. அதிலும் எடிட்டிங் நேர்த்தியாக கையாளப்படவில்லை.

பார்த்து சலித்துப் போன ஃபார்முலாவில் திரைக்கதை அமைத்திருக்கிறார் கதிரேசன்.

தமிழக ரசிகர்களை கவருமோ இல்லையோ.? ஆனால் இந்த படம் தெலுங்கு ரசிகர்களுக்கு ஏற்ற வகையில் மாஸாக உள்ளது. ஆக்ஷன் சென்டிமென்ட் என அனைத்தும் இருந்தாலும் எல்லாமே ஓவர் டோஸ் ஆக உள்ளது.

சொப்பன சுந்தரி விமர்சனம் 3.5/5.; காரை யாரு வச்சிருக்கா.?

ஒரு நடுத்தர குடும்பம்.. நோயாளி அப்பா, பேராசை அம்மா தீபா சங்கர்), ஊமையான அக்கா லட்சுமி பிரியா) ஆகியோருடன் வாழ்ந்து வருகிறார் ஐஸ்வர்யா ராஜேஷ்.

இவர் ஒரு நகைக்கடையில் வேலை பார்க்கிறார். அப்போது ஒரு பரிசு கூப்பனில் அவருக்கு ரூ.10 லட்சம் மதிப்புள்ள கார் ஒன்று பரிசாகக் கிடைக்கிறது.

இதை வைத்து தனது அக்கா திருமணத்தை நடத்தி விட நினைக்கிறார் ஐஸ்வர்யா.

அப்போது எதிர்பாராத விதமாக வீட்டை விட்டு ஓடி போன அண்ணன் கருணாகரன் வருகிறார்.. அந்த கார் தனக்கே சொந்தம் என்கிறார்.. குடும்பத்தில் பிரச்சனை வரவே போலீசில் புகார் கொடுக்கின்றனர்.

இதன் பிறகு என்ன ஆனது.? கருணாகரன் அப்படி சொல்ல என்ன காரணம்.? இறுதியில் என்ன ஆனது என்பதுதான் படத்தின் கதை.

தனக்கு ஜோடியே இல்லை என்றாலும் தன்னை நம்பி களத்தில் இறங்கி இருக்கிறார் ஐஸ்வர்யா ராஜேஷ்.. இவரது சமீபத்திய படங்கள் க/பெ ரணசிங்கம், டிரைவர் ஜமுனா, தி கிரேட் இந்தியன் கிச்சன் ஆகியவற்றில் இந்த சொப்பன சுந்தரியும் சேரும்.

தனக்கு கொடுக்கப்பட்ட கேரக்டரை சிறப்பாக செய்து சிக்ஸர் அடித்துள்ளார் ஐஸ்வர்யா ராஜேஷ்.

இவரது அக்கா லட்சுமி பிரியா தனக்கு கொடுக்கப்பட்ட ஊமை கேரக்டரில் தன் நடிப்பால் பேச வைத்துள்ளார்.

தனது கணவரை தீபா சங்கர், மருத்துவமனைக்குக் கொண்டு செல்லும் காட்சியில் செம அலப்பறை… அண்ணன் கருணாகரன், மச்சான் மைம் கோபி, போலீஸ் சுனில் ரெட்டி, டூப்ளிகேட் கார் ஓனர் ரெடின் கிங்ஸ்லி ஆகியோர் சிரிப்புக்கு நாங்க கேரண்டி என்கின்றனர்.

பாலமுருகன் மற்றும் விக்னேஷ் ராஜகோபாலனின் ஒளிப்பதிவு சிறப்பு.. டார்க் காமெடி கதைக்கு ஏற்ப கச்சிதம்.

விஷால் சந்திரசேகரின் பின்னணி இசையும்.. அஜ்மல் தஹ்சீன் இசையில் பாடல்களும் பலம் சேர்த்துள்ளன. அடுத்து என்ன நடக்கும்.? என கதைக்கு சுவாரஸ்யம் ஏற்றுகின்றன.

முக்கியமாக பரிச்சயமான நடிகர்களை தேர்ந்தெடுத்து கோடையில் காமெடி மழையில் மக்களை நனைய வைத்திருக்கிறார் இயக்குனர் எஸ்.ஜி.சார்லஸ்.

பம்பர் பரிசில் கார், காருக்கு ஆசைப்படும் கருணாகரன், லட்சுமியை வரதட்சணைக்காக திருமணம் செய்யும் சாரா, காருக்குள் ஒரு சடலம், காமம் கொண்ட காவலர் என கதாபாத்திரங்களை திறம்பட தேர்ந்தெடுத்து வேலை வாங்கி இருக்கிறார்.

பொதுவாக இதுபோன்று பம்பர் பரிசு கிடைக்கும் கூப்பனில் அந்த கடையில் வேலை செய்யும் நபர்களை தேர்ந்தெடுக்க மாட்டார்கள்.. அதை இயக்குனர் கவனிக்கவில்லையா.?

கரகாட்டக்காரன் படத்தில் காரை நாம வச்சிருக்கோம்.! இந்த காரை வச்சிருந்த சொப்பன சுந்தரியை யார் வச்சிருக்கா.? என்பார்கள்.

அதுபோல இந்த கதையில் இந்த காரை யார் வைத்திருக்கிறார்கள்? என்பதற்காகவே டைட்டில் சொப்பன சுந்தரி என்று வைத்துவிட்டார் இயக்குனர்.

ரிப்பப்பரி விமர்சனம் 2.5/5.; பேய்க்கும் ஜாதீ வெறியா?

சத்யராஜ் பாக்யராஜ் பாண்டியராஜ் என பிரபல ஹீரோக்களின் பெயர்களை மகேந்திரனும் அவரது நண்பர்கள் வைத்திருக்கிறார்கள்.. இவர்கள் மூவரும் டியூடுப் சேனல் நடத்துகின்றனர்.

மனிதர்களுக்கு தான் ஜாதி வெறி பிடித்திருக்கிறது என்றால் இதில் பேய்க்கும் ஜாதி வெறி ஊட்டி இருக்கின்றார் இயக்குனர். 2வது நாயகனாக ஸ்ரீனி்.

சாதி – கலப்பு திருமணம் செய்தவர்களை கொலை செய்கிறது ஒரு பேய். ஒரு கட்டத்தில் அது நாயகன் மகேந்திரனையும் துரத்துகிறது.

இவர் என்ன செய்தார்.? இந்த பேய்க்கும் நாயகனுக்கும் என்ன தொடர்பு என்பதுதான் படத்தின் கதை.

மகேந்திரன் நடிப்பு படு செயற்கையாக இருக்கு. ஓவர் ஆக்டிங் செய்திருக்கிறார் மகேந்திரன். ரிப்பப்பரி விழாவில் தன் கேரக்டர் 10 மடங்கு மாஸ்டர் படத்தைப் போல இருக்கும் என்றார். ஓவர் பில்டப் ஏன் செய்தார் என்பது தான் தெரியவில்லை. நடனத்தில் குறை வைக்கவில்லை என்பது மட்டும் உண்மை.

இவரது காதலியாக மலையாள மங்கை ஆரத்தி பொடி. இவர் சில காட்சிகளில் வந்து அழகில் நம்மை கவர்கிறார். 2வது நாயகனாகவும் பேயாகவும் வந்து கலக்கி இருக்கிறார் ஸ்ரீனி. இவரது காட்சிகள் படத்திற்கு வலு சேர்த்துள்ளனர்.

இரண்டாம் பாதியில் தான் இவர் வருகிறார். இடைவேளை வரை தியேட்டரில் அமரவே முடியவில்லை என்பதுதான் உண்மை.

பிளாஷ்பேக்கில் வரும் டிவி நடிகை காவ்யா அறிவுமணி நடிப்பு சிறப்பு சேர்க்கிறது.. சென்டிமென்ட் காட்சிகளில் கண் கலங்க வைக்கிறார்.

யுகே என்ற பெயரில் உண்மை காதலன் சில காட்சிகளில் சிரிக்க வைக்கிறார்.. மகேந்திரனின் நண்பர்களாக வருபவர்கள் மாரியும், நோபிள் ஜேம்ஸும் அவர்கள் நினைத்தால் நம்மை சிரிக்க வைப்பார்கள் என்பது போல அவ்வப்போது காமெடி செய்கின்றனர்.

இவர்கள் தவிர இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் கலியமூர்த்தியாக வரும் செல்லா, நக்கலைட்ஸ் தனம் என பலரும் உள்ளனர்.

இசையமைப்பாளர் திவாகர தியாகராஜன்.. ஒளிப்பதிவாளர் தளபதி ரத்தினம்.. படத்தொகுப்பாளர் முகேன் வேல்.. இவர்கள் தங்கள் பணியை சிறப்பாக செய்துள்ளனர்.

இறுதிக்காட்சியில், தேவையில்லாமல் ‘பூவே உனக்காக’ பட ஆனந்தம்.. ஆனந்தம் பாட்டு.. விஜய் ரெஃபரன்ஸ் வேற.. படம் ஓடிடும் நினைச்சாங்களோ.?

பொதுவாக பேய் படங்களில் பேய்க்கு என்ன வேலை.. பழிவாங்கல் தான்.. ஆனால் இந்த படத்தில் பேய்க்கும் ஜாதி வெறியை ஊட்டி பழி வாங்குவதாக கதை அமைத்திருக்கிறார்.. ஜாதி மேல் கோபமா.? பேய் மேல் கோபமா..? என தெரியவில்லை. என்ன இயக்குநர் அருண் கார்த்திக்.. சொல்லுங்க.?!

பேய் அருகில் இருந்தால் டமாரம் அடிக்கும் போலீஸ் நாய் ஒன்றின் ஆவி அடைக்கப்பட்ட குரங்கு பொம்மை.. (என்ன லாஜிக் தெரியல.?!)

‘இன்னு முதல்’ என்ற மலையாள படத்தின் தமிழ் ரீ-மேக்காக உருவாகியுள்ள படம், யானை முகத்தான் . மலையாளத்தில் லால் பகதூர் சாஸ்த்ரி, வரிக்குழியிலே கொல பாதகம் உள்ளிட்ட சில படங்களை இயக்கிய ராஜேஷ் மிதில்லா , முதல் முறையாக நடிகர் யோகி பாபுவுடன் கைக்கோர்த்து தமிழில் களமிறங்கியுள்ளார். இதில் ரமேஷ் திலக், ஊர்வசி மற்றும் கருணாகரன் ஆகியோர் முக்கிய கதாப்பாத்திரத்தில் நடித்துள்ளனர். இப்படத்தில், தெய்வத்திற்கும் மனிதனுக்குமான பிரச்சனையை காமெடி கதை வடிவில் கூற முயற்சித்துள்ளார் இயக்குநர். அந்த முயற்சி வெற்றி பெற்றதா? வாங்க விமர்சனத்தை பார்ப்போம். 

கதையின் கரு:

சென்னையில் ஊரெல்லாம் கடன் வாங்கி ஆட்டோ ஓட்டி பிழைப்பு நடத்தும் பொறுப்பற்ற இளைஞர் கணேசன் (ரமேஷ் திலக்). விநாயகர் பக்தரான இவர், தனது அனைத்து பிரச்சனைகளையும் நீயே தீர்த்து வைக்க வேண்டும் என கடவுளிடம் தினமும் வேண்டுகோள் வைக்கிறார். ஒரு நாள், விநாயகர் சிலை, புகைப்படம் எதுவும் கணேசனின் கண்களுக்கு தெரியாமல் போகிறது. துடிதுடித்து போன கணேசிற்கு யோகி பாபு வடிவில் நேரில் காட்சி தருகிறார், விநாயகர். அடுத்து என்ன நடந்தது? கணேசன் திருந்தி வாழ்ந்தாரா? கணேசனை காண விநாயகர் நேரில் வந்தது ஏன்? போன்ற கேள்விகளுக்கு காமெடியாக விடையளிக்க முயற்சித்து கோட்டை விட்டிருக்கிறார், இயக்குநர். 

மெதுவான திரைக்கதை:

வழக்கமாக படத்தின் ஆரம்ப காட்சிகள் கொஞ்சம் மெதுவாக நகர்வது சகஜம்தான். அதற்கென்று இவ்வளவு மெதுவாகவா நகர்வது? என ரசிகர்களை கோபம் கொள்ள வைக்கிறது, படத்தின் முதல் பாதி. காமெடி-ஃபேண்டசி படம் என கூறிவிட்டு, சிரிப்பு வருவது போல ஒரு இடத்தில் கூட வசனத்தை வைக்காதது பெரும் குறையாக தோன்றுகிறது. சரி, யோகி பாபுதான் அந்த விநாயகர் என்று தெரிந்த பிறகு கொஞ்சமாவது சுவாரஸ்யம் கூடும் என்று எதிர்பார்த்த ரசிகர்களை மொத்தமாக நாமம் சாத்தியுள்ளனர். மலையாளத்தில் வொர்க்-அவுட் ஆகிவிட்டது என்பதற்காக அந்த ஃபார்முலாவை இங்கே உபயோகிக்கலாமா? என இயக்குநரை கேட்க தோன்றுகிறது. 

“சிரிப்பே வரலியே..” 

எந்த படத்தில் துணை கதாப்பாத்திரமாக நடித்தாலும் தனது இயல்பான உடல் மொழியினாலும் அவ்வப்போது கொடுக்கும் காமெடி கவுண்டர் வசனத்தினாலும் ரசிகர்களை ஈர்ப்பவர், ரமேஷ் திலக். அவரிடத்திலேயே இந்த மொத்த படத்தையும் தோளிள் தூக்கி சுமக்கும் பொறுப்பை ஒப்படைத்திருக்கிறார் இயக்குநர். அந்த வேலையை கச்சிதமாக செய்து கொடுத்திருக்கும் இவர், ரசிகர்களை சிரிக்க வைக்க தவறி இருக்கிறார். யோகி பாபுவோ ஆங்காங்கே திரையில் தோன்றுவது, எப்போதாவது காமெடி செய்வது என்று படத்தில் நடித்திருக்கிறார். ஊர்வசி, கருணாகரனுக்கு ஸ்க்ரீன் டைமிங் இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் நிறையவே கொடுத்திருக்கலாம். இத்தனை காமெடி நட்சத்திரங்கள் படத்தில் இருந்தும், ஒரு இடத்தில் கூட சிரிக்காமல் கடு கடுவென முகத்தை வைத்து கொண்டுதான் படத்தை பார்க்கின்றனர், ரசிகர்கள். 

சென்னையில் ஆரம்பித்து ராஜஸ்தான் வரை ரசிகர்களை இழுத்துச்சென்று கதை சொல்லும் டைரக்டர், அந்த காட்சிகளை கொஞ்சமாவது ரசிக்கும் படியாக வைத்திருக்கலாம்.  “உன் உள்ளம்தான் கடவுள்.. உனக்குள் கடவுளைத் தேடு..” என்று இப்படத்தில் கூறியுள்ள கருத்துகள் எல்லாம் எல்லா சினிமாவிலும் ஏற்கனவே தூசுதட்டியதுதான். 

நாத்தீகவாதிகளுக்கு அட்வைஸ்..?

“கடவுள் இல்லன்னு சொல்வறவன் கூட இப்போ கடவுள நம்ப ஆரம்பிச்சுட்டான்…” போன்ற டைலாக்குகள், சுய நினைவுடன்தான் எழுதப்பட்டதா? என கேள்வியெழுப்ப வைக்கிறது. கடவுள் நம்பிக்கை இல்லாதவர்களை உட்கார வைத்து தூக்கம் வரும் அளவிற்கு அட்வைஸ் போன்ற கருத்துகளை சொல்லும் இப்படம், மதம் சார்ந்த கருத்துகளை கூறாததை மட்டுமே ப்ளஸ் பாய்ண்டாக பார்க்க முடிகிறது. “கடவுளை வைத்து எடுக்கப்படும் மெகா சீரியல்கூட ஓரளவிற்கு பரவாயில்லை போலும்” என்ற எண்ணம் இப்படம் பார்ப்பவர்கள் மனதில் கண்டிப்பாக தோன்றும் என்பதில் துளியும் ஐயம் இல்லை. படம் முடிந்தவுடன் எழுந்து வெளியில் செல்பவர்கள், “ஆளை விடுங்கடா சாமி” என்று வாய்விட்டு சொல்லாத குறையாக தலைதெறித்து ஓடுகின்றனர். 

மொத்தத்தில், பொறுமை சாலிகளின் பொறுமையையும் ஏக அளவில் சோதிக்கிறது யானை முகத்தான் படத்தின் கதை.

Yaanai Mugathaan movie review: Ambiguous writing makes this ‘faith-full’ film a half-empty watch

Faith comes in various ways. While some pray to God or the Supreme Force with full belief, others pray with questions in their mind. As someone who has always believed in God, I have often wondered if we owe God anything, or if he/she owes us anything at all. Yaanai Mugathaan tries to explore this question, and although the film has its heart in the right place, the haywire writing makes it difficult to connect with.

Director:  Rejishh Midhila Cast: Ramesh Thilak, Yogi Babu, Urvashi, Karunakaran Yaanai Mugathaan revolves around Ganesan (Ramesh Thilak) a lousy drunkard who owes money to literally everybody he knows. An ardent Vinayakar devotee, Ganesan keeps blaming the lord for his ‘miseries’. One fine day, the lord leaves his house and later appears in front of him in human form (Yogi Babu). Whether or not Ganesan mends his ways after God himself challenges him, forms the rest of the story. The film starts by showing how a simple stone can also become an idol over the years as people don’t hesitate to attach faith with signs and wonders. With a very slow establishment of character and setting, we have Ganesan and Michael (Karunakaran) engaging in dialogues about faith. When Ganesan says the Vinayakar he believes in doesn’t do anything for him, Michael reiterates that living, breathing, and having the bare minimum to live itself is a blessing of God. The ideology of the film makes an appearance in moments like these. What starts as a promising premise, slowly falls into the trap of messy writing. Although the first half is slow, the interval break prepares you to be curious. But, in no way can you predict what happens in the second half, and not in a good way. We see Yogi Babu challenge Ramesh Thilak to be a good man for a day. Ramesh too remains good for a day. Just when we think the film will come to a conclusion, it stretches for yet another 30 minutes, rather aimlessly.  Unfortunately, we are not given clarity on the central conflict of Yaaani Mugathaan . When Ramesh’s Ganesan loses the presence of God, he yearns for his return. However, we are not able to connect to his urge because we are not given enough substance to believe that God’s absence actually affects him. As a film starring comedy actors like Yogi Babu, Karunakaran and Urvashi, a cornucopia of comedy scenes is but expected. While some of the punches land right on our funny bones, most of the 'humour' in Yaanai Mugathaan falls flat due to a lack of ingenuity.

Remember that aimless stretch? Yaanai Mugathaan randomly moves from Chennai to Rajasthan, and we just wonder why. Of course, there are picturesque shots of Jaipur, and there’s an elaborate stretch showcasing Ramesh’s attempts to be a ‘reformed’ person. But why Rajasthan? Not every second exploration of the self needs to be a ' Life of Ram ' redux, especially when there is no payoff.  The very last confrontation between Yogi Babu and Ramesh Thilak conveys the message of the film, “God is inside all of us.” While the message is a well-intentioned one, the aimless writing makes the denouement unsatisfying. With thought-provoking morals about faith and belief, Yaanai Mugathaan surely aimed to give us a meaningful film, but where did they go wrong with execution? God only knows. 

'Yaanai Mugathaan': God as a storytelling device

Yaanai Mugathaan, starring Yogi Babu and Ramesh Thilak in the lead roles, is a fantasy centred on Lord Vinayagar. Directed by Malayalam filmmaker Rejishh Midhila, known for films like Varikkuzhiyile Kolapathakam and Innumuthal, Yaanai Mugathan marks his Tamil debut. 

When asked why he suddenly chose to make a film in Tamil, he says, “This isn’t sudden at all, I’ve wanted to do a Tamil film for a long time because I am a big fan of Tamil films. I actually tried to make my directorial debut with a Tamil film, but it didn’t materialise.” 

Coming to his upcoming release, the filmmaker says, “Yaanai Mugathaan is about an autorickshaw driver (Ramesh Thilak) who is an ardent devotee of Lord Vinayagar. While he is an extremely religious person, he is unscrupulous in his day-to-day life. One day he finds he can’t see his favourite god anymore. He then starts searching for Vinayagar, which forms the rest of the story.”

While the premise sounds interesting, he cautions us that the film does not comment on religion or debates about spirituality. He says, “The film is about humanity.” Clarifying his stance on the portrayal of god in his film, the filmmaker says, “This is a fantasy film. We all would have an idea about how god will be, and this is an attempt to show that god could be like this as well.”

Yogi Babu, who plays a dual role in the film, will be seen portraying Lord Vinayagar. When asked about the decision to cast Yogi babu, Rejishh says, “This is not your typical Yogi Babu film. We have presented him differently. And bringing him in wasn’t a marketing decision either. We thought he would be perfect for the role and he has been so supportive all through the filming. He gave his all for the role.”

The director shares that the first half of the film takes place in Chennai while the second half takes us to a  village in Rajasthan next to the India-Pakistan border. With the filming and post-production having been completed two months ago, Yaanai Mugathaan is all set to hit the screens on April 14.

Yaanai Mugathaan Movie Review

Actor Yogi Babu is on a roll playing sidekick of superstars and parallelly headlining projects on his own. His latest arrival is Yaanai Mugathaan. The film is about a fervent devotee of Lord Ganesh who leads a life without any ambition, but things take a bizarre turn when his favorite Lord Ganesh’s effigy goes missing. Actor Yogi Babu who was last seen in a supporting role in the horror comedy movie Ghosty is back on screens with his fantasy comedy drama Yaanai Mugathaan . Actor Ramesh Thilak has essayed a vital part in the film. The entertainer is the official Tamil remake of superhit Malayalam flick Innu Muthal. Malayalam storyteller Rejishh Midhila who wrote and helmed the original has also directed the Tamil version. So, how has the fantasy comedy drama Yaanai Mugathaan come out? Is it solid enough to revitalize the diminishing bankable lead hero image of actor Yogi Babu in Tamil cinema, and be a memorable debut for director Rejishh Midhila in Kollywood ? To know that let us get into the movie review.

Yaanai Mugathaan revolves around Ganesan (Ramesh Thilak), an ardent worshiper of Lord Ganesh who also happens to be a loafer who squirms at the word ‘work’. He makes his living mostly on borrowed money. Naturally he owes to literally everyone in his circle. Whenever lenders nag him to return the money, all he does is offer prayer to god asking him to fill their life with more problems that they even forget that he owes them. He spends his time aimlessly roaming around the city with his friend Michael (Karunakaran) who is also a wastrel. 

The only saving grace in Ganesan’s life is Malli Akka (Urvasi), who provides him with accommodation and financial assistance frequently. One day he notices that his favorite effigy of god Ganesh is missing. He looked for it everywhere but could not locate it. He informs Malli Akka and Michael. But they turned a deaf ear to him. Suddenly, Ganesan (Yogi Babu) enters his life, and strange events begin to occur. Who is this new Ganesan, will Ganesan discover the lost effigy of Lord Ganesh, and will he be able to repay his debts and turn around his life, is what makes the rest of the flick. 

God taking human form is not new to Tamil cinema. Arai En 305-il Kadavul and Vinodhaya Sitham have done it in the past. What differentiates director Rejishh Midhila’s Yaanai Mugathaan from them is, it slightly has a philosophical tenor to it. Though the film starts slow it lays a good base presenting us of the life and thought process of its lead character. But as the structure is raised, we gradually begin to feel the design is of average standard. Deliberately or unintentionally, the flick has a couple of metaphoric angles. When Ganesan loses the figurine of Ganesh, it sort of symbolically induces the question what happens to a person with the absence of god in life. Ganesan searches for the figurine all over the place with desperation. But nothing substantial comes out of this sequence. It just passes off as another scene. Either the writing is bad to not clearly expand on it nor perhaps it is an accidental sweet spot. 

As the flow starts to ebb after a point, director Rejishh Midhila cleverly energizes it with a challenge from god to man. As we straighten yourself with anticipation, we are presented with a mediocre drama. Post the challenge completion, Ganesan does some self-reflection. For some reason he cannot does it from the place of his habitation. Suddenly the urge to embark on a spiritual journey strikes him and off he goes to Rajasthan. In search of what? Only the god knows. The film has many interesting moments and interactions. Sample this, Ganesan tells Michael that despite his prayers Lord Ganesh does not give him good fortune. Michael tells him that the very human existence is a blessing of god. But all these moments happen to be in pockets, and does not go beyond momentary sparkle. Director Rejishh Midhila’s writing is not sufficient to tie these moments with suitable treatment to make it amount to something wholesome. 

Actor Yogi Babu demonstrates that he is not only an ideal budget hero but also a good performer. He shoulders his part comfortably without shedding a sweat. Actor Ramesh Thilak’s part has scope but has not been fleshed out to its full potential. Nonetheless, the actor elevates his role with his superb comical timing and expressions. Even he shines in emotive portions. Actress Urvasi offers great company to them, and puts on a show. Actor Karunakaran too jumps on to the wagon. He does draw giggles, but is also irksome sporadically. Actor Uday Chandra is inconsistent with his performance. Actor Hareesh Peradi makes his presence felt even in a next to nothing role. Actor Crane Manohar is as effective as usual. Actor Naaga Vishaal lives up to the purpose of why he was brought on board. Actor Yogendra Singh Rathore does justice to his part. Actor Edwin Anthony is operational. Actor Bairavan is effective. The rest of the cast has delivered what was asked of them. 

On the technical front, music director Bharath Sankar ’s songs are average. But his background score is in harmony with the funnier tone of the drama . Cinematographer Karthik S Nair has done a decent job covering the flick. His angles and color quality add value to the film . Editor Syalo Sathyan to his part has put his clipper to find work, and has tried his best to clip off the flaws in the work of his colleague. 

On the whole, with little modifications in the screenplay and more effective quips, story teller Rejishh Midhila’s Yaanai Mugathaan would have been a highly entertaining comedy drama.

Yaanai Mugathaan Review: A well-intentioned Yogi Babu-starrer let down by obscure writing and poor execution

This Yogi Babu and Ramesh Thilak film, which has its heart in the right place, is marred by a vague storyline that fails to make an impact

Story: A debt-ridden, unscrupulous auto driver, who is also an ardent devotee of Lord Vinayagar, suddenly can't see his favourite god anywhere.

Review: When it comes to faith and belief, they say 'to each his own'. While some consider god as a Superior force to them, a few others consider god as their best friend with whom they share their happiness and despair.

Here, Ganesan (Ramesh Thilak) is an ardent devotee of Lord Vinayagar, with whom he has a unique relationship. Ganesan, who has borrowed money from almost everyone he knows and has no intention of returning the amount anytime soon, prays to Vinayagar to shower them with problems so that they forget that they even lent him money.

As Ganesan goes on with his unscrupulous daily life as an auto driver, he finds one day that he can't see his favourite god anywhere. As he goes on looking for the missing god, he learns many life lessons during the journey.

Rejishh Midhila's maiden Tamil film has its heart in the right place and talks about looking for the god within oneself instead of searching everywhere. However, the well-intentioned film is let down by obscure writing, weak screenplay and poor execution. Though the film begins on a fun note and the narrative builds up to an intriguing interval block, things just go downhill after that.

The biggest stumbling block in Yaanai Mugathaan is the packaging of scenes that barely make an impact. When Ganesan realises that his favourite god is missing, you don't really connect with his emotions. Is he upset that the god left or does he just want to prove a point by bringing the god back home?

Likewise, you don't feel an ounce of interest when Ganesan randomly boards a train to go to Rajasthan to help an old man. Even if the experience is billed as a soul-searching exercise, neither does the backstory of the old man evince any empathy nor do you connect with the reformation of Ganesan. Hareesh Peradi's story, too, sticks out like a sore thumb.

Despite having a slew of talented comedians, be it Yogi Babu, Ramesh Thilak, Urvashi and Karunakaran, the film doesn't have much to laugh about. Urvashi's backstory, too, doesn't evoke sympathy. If she didn't believe in god anymore, why did she pray for Ganesan? Many such scenes in the film could have been done away with.

Though some of the lines delivered by Yogi Babu, who plays Lord Vinayagar in the film, hit the nail on the head, the way he lets Ganesan transform doesn't evoke much interest. When Samuthirakani, who played god in Vinodhaya Sitham, tried to reform Parasuram (Thambi Ramaiah) through the concept of death, we cared about his fate. Here we don't empathise with Ganesan. The tactics or the means pulled by Yogi Babu to change the man for the better, seem quite bland.

However, the film manages to address a few perceptions like how one tends to blame god for the hardships in their life and how different kinds of people look at a slab of stone, be it theists, agnostics or atheists. This film could have worked better with some impactful writing and screenplay. The many flaws in the fantasy comedy relegate it to a below average film.

Verdict: This Yogi Babu and Ramesh Thilak fantasy comedy, which has its heart in the right place, is marred by a vague storyline that hardly evinces any interest or empathy for the characters.
