Holidays are very important parts of everyone’s life, be it a student or a working person. Everyone deserves to take a break from the monotony to rejuvenate and maintain their health. Holidays help us do exactly that.

Essay on Holiday

Other than that, a holiday allows us to complete all our pending work. Nowhere will you find a person who dislikes holidays. From a school going toddler to your house help, everyone looks forward to holidays and see them as a great opportunity to relax and enjoy .

Importance of Holidays for Students

When one thinks about what a holiday means for students, we notice how important it is for the kids. It is a time when they finally get the chance to take a break from studies and pursue their hobbies.

They can join courses which give them special training to specialize in it. They can get expert in arts, craft, pottery, candle making and more. Furthermore, they also make new friends there who have the same interests.

In addition, students get to visit new places on holiday. Like during summer or winter holidays , they go with their families to different cities and countries. Through holidays, they get new experiences and memories which they remember for a lifetime.

Furthermore, it also gives them time to relax with their families. Other cousins also visit each other’s places and spend time there. They play games and go out with each other. Moreover, students also get plenty of time to complete their homework and revise the syllabus.

Importance of Holidays for Working People

Holidays for working people are somewhat similar to what they mean for students. In fact, they carry more importance to them than students. Though they are adults, they also yearn for the holidays. Why so? They do not get as many holidays as students do.

Most importantly, the holiday no matter how little it gives them a great chance to relax. More so because they work tirelessly for so many hours a day without a break. Some even work when they get home. This makes their schedule very hectic and gives them little time to rest. A holiday fills the gap for this rest.

Read 500 Words Essay on Summer Vacation

Similarly, due to such a hectic schedule working people get less time to spend with their family. They get distanced from them. Holidays are the perfect chance to strengthen their bonds and make amends.

In other words, a working person needs holidays for the smooth functioning of life. Without holidays they will face pressure and won’t be able to be productive when they work non-stop. After all, when a person earns, they must spend it on something recreational from time to time so they also remain happy and work happily.

Thus, we see how holidays play an important role in maintaining a great balance between our work and play. We must try to make the most of the holidays and spend them wisely so we do not waste time. Never waste a holiday as they are very few in number where you can actually, rest or utilize it properly.

Tips for Writing a "What I Did on Vacation" Essay

  • Writing Essays
  • Writing Research Papers
  • English Grammar
  • M.Ed., Education Administration, University of Georgia
  • B.A., History, Armstrong State University

Are you required to write an essay about your summer vacation or your holiday break? This can be a tough assignment to tackle at first glance. But if you think about it, there are lots of interesting things that happen on your vacation that others might enjoy reading about. The key to success is to zero in on the experiences, people, or situations that made your vacation unique.

Summer vacation can be busy or lazy, funny or serious. You may have traveled with your family, worked every day, fallen in love, or coped with a difficult situation. To start your essay, you'll need to choose a topic and tone.

Family Vacation Essay Topic Ideas

If you traveled with your family, you may have some great stories to tell. After all, every family is crazy in its own way. Want some proof? How many Hollywood films have themes about family holidays or trips? Those films are popular because they enable us to glimpse inside the crazy family lives of others. Alternatively, you may have a more serious story to tell.

Consider these funny topics:

  • Why I'll Never Go Back to (insert place name)
  • How (insert name) Drove Me Crazy in Five Days
  • Traveling to (insert city) Then and Now
  • The Hazards of Traveling With a (person or thing)
  • Why You Shouldn't Take a Dog to (insert place)
  • I Left (insert city) But My (lost item) Stayed
  • Why I Couldn't Sleep in (place name)

If your family vacation involved something more serious, think about one of these topics:

  • The Love I Left Behind in (insert place)
  • Saying Good-Bye to (insert person or place)
  • Exploring (place's) Secrets
  • An Emotional Trip

Summer Job Essay Topic Ideas

Not everyone gets to spend the summer having fun; some of us have to work for a living. If you spent your summer at a job, chances are you met a lot of interesting characters, dealt with complicated situations, or even saved the day once or twice. Here are some ideas for summer job topics:

  • The Boss's Day Off
  • The Customer From Hell
  • What I Learned from My Customers
  • Why I'll Never Go Into the ___ Business
  • Six Things I Learned on the Job

How to Write the Essay

Once you've chosen your topic and your tone, think about the story you want to tell. In most cases, your essay will follow a typical story arc:

  • The hook (the funny, sad, or scary sentence that grabs the reader's attention)
  • The rising action (the beginning of your story)
  • The climax (the most exciting moment in your story)
  • The denouement (the aftermath or ending to your story)

Start by writing out the basic outline of your story. For example, "I started cleaning a guest's room and found that they'd left behind a wallet with $100 in cash. When I turned it in without taking a single dollar for myself, my boss rewarded me with a $100 gift certificate and a special award for honesty."

Next, start fleshing out the details. What was the room like? What was the guest like? What did the wallet look like and where was it left? Were you tempted to just take the money and turn in the wallet empty? How did your boss look when you handed her the wallet? How did you feel when you got your reward? How did others around you react to your honesty?

Once you've told your story in all its detail, it's time to write the hook and conclusion. What question or thought can you use to grab your reader's attention? For example: "What would you do if you found a wallet loaded with cash? That was my dilemma this summer."

Narrative Essay on How I spent my holiday

Holidays hold a special place in everyone’s life, offering a respite from the routine of daily tasks and providing an opportunity to explore, relax, and create unforgettable memories. This year, I decided to spend my holiday in a way that was both enriching and exhilarating. I ventured on a journey to a small coastal town, renowned for its pristine beaches, rich culture, and vibrant local life. This narrative essay unfolds the experiences, discoveries, and personal growth I encountered during my holiday.

The Journey Begins

My adventure commenced with the excitement of traveling to a place I had never visited before. The anticipation built up as I packed my bags, ensuring I had everything needed for a week of exploration. The journey to the coastal town was a scenic delight, with winding roads flanked by lush greenery and the occasional glimpse of the ocean’s horizon promising a serene escape.

Exploring the Coastal Town

Upon arrival, the beauty of the town exceeded my expectations. The air was filled with the salty breeze of the sea and the streets buzzed with the energy of daily life. My first day was spent wandering through the town, taking in the sights and sounds. I visited local markets, where I marveled at the craftsmanship of the artisans and indulged in the town’s culinary delights, tasting dishes that were a fusion of traditional recipes and the bounty of the sea.

The Heart of Nature

The following days were dedicated to exploring the natural wonders surrounding the town. I embarked on hikes through nearby trails, each revealing breathtaking views of the landscape. The highlight was a trek to a secluded beach, accessible only by a narrow path through the cliffs. The effort was rewarded with a serene beach, untouched by the hustle and bustle of tourist spots. Here, I spent hours swimming in the clear waters, reading under the shade of palm trees, and reflecting on the simple pleasures of life.

Cultural Immersion

My holiday was not just about relaxation but also about immersing myself in the local culture. I attended a traditional dance performance, where the rhythmic beats and expressive movements of the dancers told stories of the town’s history and folklore. I also participated in a cooking class, learning to prepare local dishes that combined fresh seafood with exotic spices, gaining not only culinary skills but also insights into the lifestyle and traditions of the people.

The Bond of Friendship

One of the most unexpected and rewarding aspects of my holiday was the friendships I formed. Whether it was conversations with local residents, sharing stories with fellow travelers, or the camaraderie with the host of my accommodation, these connections added depth to my experience. Through these interactions, I gained a richer understanding of the world from different perspectives, reminding me of the value of openness and the universal language of kindness.

Reflections and Realizations

As my holiday drew to a close, I found myself reflecting on the journey. Beyond the relaxation and enjoyment, it was a period of personal growth and learning. I had stepped out of my comfort zone, challenged myself to try new things, and embraced the unfamiliar. This holiday taught me the importance of slowing down, appreciating the moment, and the joy of discovering new places and cultures.

My holiday in the coastal town was more than just a break from routine; it was a journey of discovery, connection, and personal growth. It reminded me of the beauty of our world, the diversity of its people, and the shared experiences that bind us. As I returned home, I brought back not only souvenirs and photographs but memories that will last a lifetime and a renewed sense of adventure, ready to explore what lies beyond the horizon.

Describe a Memorable Holiday

Posted by David S. Wills | Jun 12, 2018 | IELTS Tips , Speaking | 0

Describe a Memorable Holiday

Today I’m going to show you how to form a good answer for IELTS speaking part 2. I will show you how to analyze the question, make notes, and then give a satisfactory answer.

Here is the cue card we will use today:

Describe a memorable holiday . You should say: when you went on this holiday where you went what you did and explain why it is memorable.

Normally, there isn’t much analysis needed for an IELTS speaking part 2 cue card; however, you still have to be careful to ensure that you correctly understand the task.

Above, I have underlined “memorable holiday” because it is what you need to describe. This means that it must be a holiday you can remember well – either for good or bad reasons! It also is a holiday and not the destination . You can’t simply talk about Paris for 2 minutes.

Apart from that, follow the suggested talking points as they are helpful.

You should make useful notes to help you speak fluently for 2 minutes. Don’t waste time writing too much, and never attempt to write full sentences ! You will simply run out of time. You only have 1 minute to make notes.

That means you should just write ideas and key vocabulary.

Here are my example notes:

essay perfect holiday

A Komodo Dragon

Indonesia Boat trip: Lombok -> Komodo Summer, 2016 Snorkeling, sightseeing, trekking Manta rays, komodo dragons, dolphins

Note that these only took a short time to write, but they are very useful for structuring a talk and reminding me of important words or phrases.

Sample Answer

Here is my sample answer to the above IELTS speaking part 2 question.

essay perfect holiday

In the summer of 2016, I visited Indonesia. To begin with, I was travelling with my friend, but then I took a boat trip alone. The boat sailed from the island of Lombok to a place called Komodo National Park, which is famous for being the home of the Komodo dragon – an amazing species of lizard. We sailed for four days and four nights on rough seas, but it was a beautiful trip. In the day time you could just relax and watch the islands go by, and at night you could see an incredible number of stars. Sometimes the boat would stop and we could go swimming or snorkeling. I swam with manta rays, dolphins, giant moray eels, and countless other fish. Sometimes you could go trekking on remote islands and climb to the very top to see the astounding views. It was a memorable experience for me because of the exotic wildlife and stunning views, as well as the feeling of being on the sea at night, under all those stars.

Notice how I included details about the trip without going off topic, and used descriptive language to express the things I saw and did. I also addressed all points on the cue card and used appropriate vocabulary and grammar.

Preparation

Grouping_MjI2NzU=

My last holiday was a five-day trip to Prague in the Czech Republic. I know Prague well because I lived there when I was at university, more than ten years ago.

Instead of staying in a hotel, I stayed with one of my old friends. It was so much fun, and a little bit like my old life. I wanted to do all the same things I did in my university days, so I visited the university. It has changed a lot and looks more modern. I also went to the supermarket near my old house. I loved seeing all the different foods. I was really happy to find my favourite cheese and chocolate biscuits but they were a bit more expensive than I remember!

We did some touristy things too. We walked up beautiful Petrin Hill and around the castle. The views of the city are amazing up there. We walked across the historic Charles Bridge. My friend's flat is very near the TV Tower so we saw the famous baby statues climbing up it. Those things haven't changed, of course.

1. Try to make your writing interesting for the reader. To do this, you can make it personal with your own memories and experiences.

2. Use adjectives to add detail to your descriptions.

3. Write clear and simple sentences and organise your ideas in short paragraphs. Give each paragraph a different topic.

4. Use so, but, and, because and other linking words.

Where was your last holiday?

I want you to know that I am very happy and enjoying my vacation quite a bit. The destination on this vacation has been the Colombian Caribbean coast, We arrived two days ago, this is a very nice experience. Yesterday I discovered the window to the world that is located in Barranquilla, as well as the boardwalk, they are very warm places but above all very visited, as the afternoon fell I went to visit some of my husband's brothers. Tomorrow we will get up very early to travel a few kilometers and be able to visit Cabo de la Vela, in La Guajira, we will leave at 6 am, because we must be in Uribia Guajira at 3 pm, there the tour guide will be waiting for us, who will be the one in charge of directing this adventure. I also had the opportunity to visit Cartagena de Indias and its beautiful beaches, I really liked getting to know the beach, the sea and the people who live there, But what I liked most was being able to visit Cabo de la Vela and learn a little about the reality of the Wayuu culture, being able to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and sunsets that this beautiful place offers.

My last was holiday three-week trip to Fez in Morocco. Fez it’s my hometown so I know it well because I lived there for 26 years. I went to visit my family there and I stayed at home, every day I was invited by my sisters and brothers, they made me delicious dishes and we had a good time together. I’ve been seeing my friends every day in the café, we’ve been seeing football matches and we’ve been talking about different topics. In this holiday I made many things important for me, I had driving courses to be confident when I’m going to buy a car, in the same time I had English courses.

My last holiday was a three-day trip to Thua Thien Hue in Vietnam. I always want to go there, so in the summer of last year, I decided to take a trip to Hue with my family.

We booked a small hostel near Hue Walking Road. We stayed in a twin room, which was clean and had full amenities. The owner was very friendly; he showed us good restaurants, attractions, and how to deal with sellers in the market. We tried local foods such as Bun Bo Hue, Banh Xeo, Banh Bot Loc, etc. The food in Hue is cheap and amazing; I thought that I could eat it all day!

We did some touristy things too. We visited Hue Capital and had a chance to learn more about Vietnam's history. The architecture is very majestic and beautiful. We also went to Thien Mu Pagoda. It is one of the most sacred temples in Vietnam, so we prayed for health and happiness and wished everyone good luck. In the evening, we walked across the historic Trang Tien Bridge. It was so beautiful at night; there were a lot of people walking there.

It was three amazing days. I felt so relaxed and hope to visit more places in Vietnam.

My last holiday was a two-day trip to Baguio in the Philippines. I had lived there before for five months. So I decided to go back for just a visit on my holiday. Unfortunately, there was heavily raining as we got off the bus. Otherwise, getting a taxi was super hard, and we were waiting for around an hour. Fortunately, I got home safely and I made so much fun with my friends. I visited the old places that I often did because it made me happy and refresh. In conclusion, I had so much fun spending my last holiday in Baguio.

I remember last year when I went with friend to the beach in summer. My Lastsummer holidays was 2days and 3 nights trip to Ngwe Saung Beach in Myanamr . Ngwe Saung, is a beach resort located 48 km west of Pathein, Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar. In 2014, the town of Ngwesaung had 10,732 people. The beach is 5hours drive with no traffic away from the principal city of Yangon. Ngwe Saung is well know for An unspoilt 15 kilometres stretch of silvery sand and modern amenities have made Ngwe Saung a popular destination for less budget conscious tourists from Lower Myanmar. I booked for our stay at a hotel near the beach, name was "Grand Paradise Hotel ". My friend and i prepared everything we needed on our trip as light food and soft drinks to have on the way to the hotel. And also we prepared necessary clothing for the sea, sun cream and some essential medicines. After 5hours of driving we arrived the hotel at 12PM afternoon and went to our rooms to rest change clothes and take all what we need to go to the beach. This Hotel is near the beach, all services was good and room are cleaned, wide and nice. We put our bags on the table and went to swim in the sea and then went out for lunch that my friend ordered from a fish restaurant . The Crab ,Lobster and fish was fresh and tasty and we enjoyed our meal very much. After lunch we sat under the canopy enjoying the sea view, refreshing breaths ,listening to music and playing fun games. OH really nice Ngwe Saung beach Myanamr.

My last holiday was far away in time in different reasons. We were at black sea coast on September so there where not so much other people. We was drinking a wine that was cheap there and going some excursions

My last holiday. Last summer, in particular on the last weekend of June, I decided to visit Granada, an amazing city in Spain. I visited Granada for the second time with my family, my wife, and two daughters. I was so happy because I visited Granada sights, especially Alhambra Palace, and Civilization Museum. We arrived at the hotel by bus at 11 a.m. The hotel was wonderful and clean, and the food they offer was delicious. My family really liked the traditional typical dishes of Granada, in particular the dish named Baella. During the holiday, I met some of my Spanish colleagues and they invited us to visit their house which is located in a nice village in the city suburb. Really, I liked this place for the large landscape, calmness, and the kind people who live in. On the fifth day of our holiday, we walked around the city and saw the old city which has been built above the mountain. So, you can see the whole city from above it. Despite the enjoyment that we have got, the negative thing about that holiday was that we spent so much money and also many friends need to buy some things from there, so I bought some souvenirs and I hope that I can keep one for myself to remind of that divine place. By and large, this holiday was great and unforgettable thanks to my Spanish friend, Gaspar, who provided me with a Guidebook which makes my trip easy and coy.

My last holiday was four days on São Miguel dos Milagres with my family. We stay on the beach house of my grandpa. There is a pool, and four rooms in that. There we go to the beach, to some interesting restaurants, to a beach clube and to an ice cream shop. I love that travel and i'd love go back to São Miguel dos Milagres.

On the first weekend in March, we took an amazing trip to Barcelona. We went by train from Atocha station and the journey lasted two and a half hours.

When we arrived at the historic Barcelona Sants station, we took the metro to Plaza de Tetuan, which is where we had the apartment. We left our baggage and went to visit the city centre, Las Ramblas, Plaza Catalunya, La Boqueria Market, Paseo de Gracia, etc. On Sunday, we saw the beautiful Sagrada Familia which is my favourite landmark. Later, we went to the incredible Nou Camp stadium to see the Barça game against Valencia. After the game we visited the official store and did some shopping but everything was very expensive. On Monday, before returning to Madrid we went back to the Nou Camp to take a guided tour of the trophy room, changing rooms, benches, and the VIP box.

At the end, we went to the apartment to take the suitcases and so, we took the metro to the Sants station where we boarded the high speed train back to Madrid.

I go to Thailand for a camping holiday, It was fun I go caving on the first day, I see many bets are sleeping on top of the cave.(no time to finish)

Holidays with family can create memories of a lifetime – some for good reasons and some for unpleasant incidents. Aside from giving the weary a break from work, holidays also provide an opportunity for families to gather, enjoy and make new, lasting memories together. Many cultures celebrate holidays differently and have holidays unique to their cultures and countries.

If you’re writing an essay about holidays with family, here is our list of essays that will keep you glued and reflect on your holidays.

2. forgiveness perfect gift for the holidays by käri knutson , 3. everything that went wrong on our family vacation (and why it was still totally worth it) by michelle weisenberg, 4. consumerism culture is dangerous to the true meaning of christmas by frank portillo, 5. holidays away from home: an ofw christmas by beatrice del rosario, anakin loewes garcia, ronald manuel laylo, 1. your most memorable holiday with family, 2. why are holidays with family important, 3. an eco-friendly family holiday, 4. planning the best holiday destination, 5. camping for the holidays, 6. holidays on the beach, 7. history of spending holidays with family, 8. avoiding covid-19 while on holidays, 9. how to ensure a stree-free family holiday, 10. budget-friendly tips for holiday travels.

“The confidence you bring — from listening to your body and being sure that you are allowed to feel however you want about your food choices — will do wonders for dealing with any criticism, comments or plate-policing from (mostly) well-meaning family members or people with their own food hang-ups.”

Planning what to bring or cook for a family holiday dinner may come with many anxieties and pressures, especially if you have critical family members. The article presents the thoughts of a psychotherapist and eating disorder expert who advises readers on how to best respect their own dietary needs and boundaries while embracing those of their families.

“During the holidays, people who otherwise avoid each other can be thrown together in family or social situations that force the issue. It can be painful to ask for forgiveness and risk rejection… but it’s something we sometimes have to accept.”

There’s no better gift to present to your family on holidays than forgiveness. In this article, psychology professor Robert Enright is interviewed to talk about the process of forgiveness, why people hold back from forgiving, and what helps people let go of their anger.

“Our vacations are NEVER dull. They usually entail at least one sick child/trip to the ER and one major catastrophe. It’s gotten to the point where we simply expect these things. As our pediatrician says, ‘I wish you people would just stay home.’”

Family holidays for this author cannot be complete without a disaster, from water-submerged diabetes testers to stolen backpacks and a kid getting wounded by a knife. Yet, despite these incidents, Weisenberg still sees the beauty in their travels, with its indelible memories outweighing any unfortunate event happening in all their family holiday travels.

“Instead of buying gifts for one another, we should be focused on creating memories with each other — an immaterial gift that will last far longer than this year’s Apple Watch.”

Instead of strengthening family bonds, many look forward to holidays to get a hand at things they’ve been meaning to buy. The article laments how the culture of consumerism and materialism has engulfed us, spoiling the true meaning of family holidays, wherein making memories together should suffice.

“OFWs sacrifice quality time with their loved ones by providing for them from afar. Each family has their own way of coping with that absence. Every shared moment, be it physically or through the aid of technology, encapsulates the spirit of Christmas for loved ones near and far.”

The article interviews overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) or those who sacrifice their time with loved ones to bring more income to their families. As Christmas has a special place in the hearts of all Filipinos, OFWs’ nostalgia is at its peak during this holiday when they cannot be home with family. OFWs in the article talk about their homesickness and how they cope at Christmas time.

100 Words Essay on My Favorite Holiday

My favorite holiday: christmas.

Christmas is my favorite holiday because it is a time of joy and giving. During Christmas, my family decorates our home with bright lights and a beautiful tree. We share gifts, showing love and thinking of others.

Family Gatherings

On Christmas Day, we gather with relatives. Everyone brings tasty food, and we enjoy a big meal together. The laughter and stories make me feel warm inside.

Spreading Cheer

I also love Christmas because we can help those in need. Giving to others makes the holiday special. It teaches us to be kind and generous, which is the true spirit of Christmas.

250 Words Essay on My Favorite Holiday

My favorite holiday is Christmas, which comes on December 25th every year. It is a special time when families and friends come together to share joy and warmth. The festive mood, the twinkling lights, and the beautiful decorations make this holiday the most cheerful for me.

Decorations and Music

The first thing I love about Christmas is the decorations. Streets and homes are adorned with colorful lights and shiny ornaments. The Christmas tree stands tall in our living room, covered with glittering decorations and topped with a bright star. I also enjoy the music that fills the air during this season. The songs are merry and they spread happiness everywhere.

Gift-Giving and Santa Claus

Another exciting part of Christmas is the tradition of giving and receiving gifts. I put a lot of thought into choosing presents for my family and friends, and I can’t wait to see their faces when they open them. The story of Santa Claus, who brings gifts to children around the world, adds to the magic of the holiday.

Family Time and Food

Most importantly, Christmas is about spending time with my family. We eat a big meal together, with lots of delicious food like roast turkey and sweet pies. We talk, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company, creating memories that last a lifetime.

In conclusion, Christmas is my favorite holiday because it is a time of joy, giving, and family. The beautiful decorations, festive music, and the spirit of sharing make it a celebration I look forward to every year.

500 Words Essay on My Favorite Holiday

Introduction to my favorite holiday.

Everyone loves holidays because they are times when we can relax, have fun, and spend time with our families and friends. Of all the holidays, my favorite is Christmas. It is a special time when we celebrate joy, kindness, and the spirit of giving.

The Joy of Christmas Decorations

One of the things that makes Christmas my favorite holiday is the decorations. Streets and houses shine with colorful lights. Inside homes, Christmas trees stand tall, decorated with sparkly ornaments and twinkling lights. The reds, greens, and golds make everything look magical. At night, the lights make the snow sparkle like a blanket of stars.

Spending Time with Family

Christmas is a time when my family comes together. Relatives who live far away visit, and we get to spend time with them. We talk, laugh, and share stories. It feels warm and cozy to be surrounded by the people I love. We also have a big meal together, with lots of delicious food like roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, and pies. Eating with everyone around the table is one of the best parts of the holiday.

Gift-Giving and Receiving

Another reason I love Christmas is the tradition of giving and receiving gifts. I enjoy thinking about what my family and friends might like and then finding the perfect presents for them. Wrapping the gifts in bright paper and ribbons is fun, too. On Christmas morning, we all sit around the tree and open our presents. Seeing the happy faces when someone opens a gift I gave them is a wonderful feeling.

The Meaning of Christmas

Christmas is not just about the presents and decorations; it’s also about kindness and helping others. Many people do nice things for those who are less fortunate during this time. We might donate food, clothes, or toys to those who need them. This part of Christmas shows us that giving to others can make us feel good inside.

Christmas Traditions

There are also many fun traditions during Christmas. We sing holiday songs called carols, and sometimes we go to special church services. Some families bake cookies or make gingerbread houses. These activities are not just fun; they also bring us closer together.

Conclusion: Why Christmas is Special to Me

Christmas is my favorite holiday for many reasons. The beautiful decorations, spending time with family, giving and getting presents, the true meaning of the holiday, and the fun traditions all make it a time of happiness and warmth. It’s a time when we can forget about our problems and enjoy being together. That’s why Christmas will always be the holiday I love the most.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • In a nutshell

Describe your idea of a perfect holiday destination

9IELTS

Your idea of a perfect holiday destination – Cue Card # 694

Ielts speaking part 2: ielts cue card/ candidate task card., describe your idea of a perfect holiday destination..

You should say:

  • where it would be
  • what type of place it would be
  • how it will look like

and explain why you think it would be a perfect holiday destination.

[You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.]

Model Answer: I have so many ideas of a perfect holiday destination in my head that it would be practically impossible to choose one and then describe it. However, I would still go ahead and try my best to make sense of my version of a perfect holiday destination.

First, my perfect holiday destination would be ideally located on an island, far away from civilization, surrounded by a cool and calm ocean. Of course, when I say that my perfect holiday destination would be far away from civilization, I don’t necessarily mean to suggest that it would be very far from the airport.

The island would be covered by many different kinds of fruit trees, along with other kinds of beautiful forests and landscapes, so that I can always enjoy the taste of some fresh fruits when feeling hungry. The weather should neither be too hot nor too cold for my perfect holiday destination. Having some beautiful looking sandy beaches, my perfect holiday destination shouldn’t have any tall buildings or tall hotels, covering the sky, so that I can actually see the beautiful sky and the moon at night.

Also, I wouldn’t like my perfect holiday destination to be too quiet or too crowded and busy because that would actually take the whole fun away of mingling and socializing with people from different countries and culture. Having a few hills and mountains by the sides of the sea beaches wouldn’t exactly hurt my version of a perfect holiday destination either. Finally, the simple and not-too-tall hotels in my ideal holiday destination should be close to the sandy beaches so that I can capture a perfect overview of the ocean by sitting in their balconies.

So, it would be my perfect holiday destination, mainly because it would help me forget about the worries and negativities of my daily life. Besides, it would also allow me to learn, understand and appreciate people from other countries, cultures and backgrounds in a way which is not possible otherwise. Finally, it would also refresh my mind and body by keeping me close to the beautiful nature.

My perfect holiday

Authors Avatar

As the plane soars into the air I am clinging to my seat trying desperately not to fall out and make a complete fool of myself, though it has never happened and probably never will there is always the fear that it might! Once we reach a good altitude up in the air the plane stops flying at an angle (that I swear is almost vertical) and starts to fly horizontally. With only a few bumps on the journey I am able to catch up on all the sleeping I miss last night due to the pure excitement of seeing the sun, sea and sand! Even though normal I would rather sleep on a nail covered bed in the middle of Antarctica, the small, cold, hard chair seems of little importance as I drift off easily, sleeping properly for the first time in days. When I awake my first though is ‘why on earth do I promise myself that I will never sleep on a plane?’ . . . and then I realise that the airhostesses had covered me in leaflets whilst I was sleeping. What an odd thing to do? If I’m sleeping I am obviously not interested in filling in the questionnaires about the food and cleanness of the plane? As I am complaining to myself I glance over to see my little sister staring at me with wonder as to what on earth I am doing! I lean over and say ‘come on, let’s get the sweets out!’ This is possibly the best bit of the journey, searching through our travel bags for the sweets that we have bought the previous weekend. And, though I always promise myself that I will not eat all of the sweets like I have minutes left to live, in half and hour (as if by magic) I am left with a lap full of wrappers. Then I hear the pilot say that we are just about to land in at least 3 different languages I wait patiently for the most important new, the temperature outside! 27C! Yes! It seems I have not felt the warmth of a double figure temperature in years.  Walking off the plane and waiting hours for the bags is always the worst bit of the holiday so I intentionally erase it from my mind! (I do not want to remember this holiday for me waiting in a small dark room with 30 other families for what seems like hours to receive a mountain of clothes that we don’t end up wearing!)

Lying on the beach the next day it seems like I have been living in this paradise all my life. With the waves crashing against the sand and the sun beating down on me, giving me the tan all my friends will be so jealous of, this really does seem like a heaven on earth. Mom calls to me asking me if I want an ice cream and I reply in a calm tone ‘no, thank you, I am keeping to the diet’ … yeah right! I practically swallow my tongue say ‘YES!’ After all, I spent weeks of eating stupid salads and drinking water to fit into this bikini and this is my treat. As I am scoffing down (at a pretty impressive pace) the chocolate cover ice cream I glance over to the sea, what an amazing colour? All those blues and greens making a multi-shaded pool just cold enough water. ‘Think I’ll go for a quick swim,’ says my dad and I quick eat the last bit of my ice cream and tell him that I will come too. Looking at all of the magnificent fish is a treat. Dad and I always dive deep down to look at them, an I never grow tired of it. Heading back to the sunbeds on the beach about an hour later I see my mom packing up the towels. Time to go back to the villa for a lounge around the pool.

This is always my favorite part of the holiday. Catching up on my reading, listening to my little sister playing and watching my mom and dad just lie and relax, all of these very rare sights back home, we always seem to be too busy to sit around and do nothing. ‘Ahhh!’ I yell (practically deafening everyone around me) as my darling little sister splashes me with water from the pool, signaling that it is time to go for a swim. Even though I love going to play with her I act all cool heading over to the pool because I know that that rather good looking boy across the street is looking and perish the thought that he saw me make a fool of myself again!

Sitting at the table in a local restaurant I ponder over what to have for dinner but most importantly what to have for pudding! I always decide on a local dish, who on earth would go to another place in the world and order fish and chips? I finish my dinner and order my pudding (always something that looks like they had to used 500g of chocolate to make) and sit back and relax and wait for 7 more days of exactly the same, relaxing routine!

Narrative Essay about Christmas: My Favorite Holiday

My favorite holiday is Christmas. The reason why I love Christmas so much is because I get to spend the holiday with my family. Christmas season, one of my main priorities is family and giving back. My entire family means so much to me and I love being able to give them gifts and spend the holiday with them. Make lots of memories at Christmas time and that is what matters most to me.

One thing around Christmas time is that me and my mom both loved to do is to give back at the holiday season. Me and my mom like to pick a place to go and give back at the person who is our waitress or helps us while we are there. We also have been doing this for three years. But the first time we did this I realized how meaningful it can be to give back. So, me and my mom picked Waffle House for our place to give back. There are lots of other places we could have picked but this one stood out to us. Me and my family like there food a lot, and we know that they do a lot while they are working during the day. So, me and my mom got a group of her friends together to come with us. We went there one day during the Christmas season of course, and we ate our food while we were there. But little dose our waitress know that we are going to give them a big surprise!

After we get done eating, our waitress asked us are you guys ready to pay. And we said yes, my mom and her friends all chipped in money for the tip. And the wound up being about 400 dollars. I know that was a lot but that was the idea of all of this. After we gave the waitress the big tip, she was over the moon happy. She even cried happy tears. The look on her face brought me so much joy. Turns out she didn't know if she was going to be able to get all of her family and friends the gifts they wanted. She said that it helped her out a lot for Christmas to be coming up. When me and my mom got back in the car, we were just so happy to know we helped someone out that really needed it. I was so happy for that waitress, and I think it really helped her.

I love doing other things during Christmas as well like baking cookies, opening presents of course, and like I was telling you I love to give back to other people. Another thing that I always do but happens on Christmas eve right before it's Christmas day, is to sleep downstairs and hang out with my brother. I have been doing that for as long as I can remember. I even did that last Christmas, and my brother was a senior in high school. I wake my family up early every Christmas, I wake them up at about 7:00 in the morning. And yes, I know that's early, but it just makes Christmas even more fun and special to me. For everything my mom and Dad do for me all year around, I make sure they have something really nice and special to open up or have on Christmas day. I also make sure my brother does to 'cause he has always been the best sibling to me. My mom and Dad's family live in Florida and Ohio which is far away from us. But this year I couldn't get to see my mom's family. But they sent us our presents in the mail, and they still meant a lot to me when I opened them. And my dad's family gave us our gifts in person, but about a month late which was fine with me because I still had a really nice time with them and loved everything I got.

Christmas isn't all about the presents it's more about the memories you get to make, your family, and for my family giving back. I love the way giving back makes me feel and how it can bring lots of joy into someone's heart. I love Christmas and probably always will. I have had lots of memories during this holiday season. And everyone made during the holiday season means so much to me.
