IELTS Writing task 2 band 7 | International sports events

ielts essay on international sports

This analysis looks at an IELTS writing task 2 band 7 essay discussing international sports events. Read on to find out what makes a band 7  task 2 essay!

International sporting events are essential in easing international tensions and releasing patriotic emotions in a safe way.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

You should write at least 250 words.

In the (article) times of visceral hatred and occurrences of terrorist attacks, sporting events like (article) Olympics and World Cup could play a vital role to instil the sense of peace and harmony amongst many nations. While it is (article) excellent idea for building good relationships among countries and increasing (article) sense of brotherhood in patriots, history has also some occasions of dark days triggered by this (referencing) international sporting events.

To begin with, (article) world seems to stop to watch World Cup (plural) , for example, cricket, (conjunction) football (FIFA). This clearly shows the utmost importance of these matches and even countries having internal disputes also participate in order to prove them (wrong word/referencing error) best globally. Because of this, people of the respective nations tend to come closer, (sentence control) to take an (wrong article) example of India and Pakistan, players can be seen to exhibit great humanity and ethics during play (So… explain the importance of this in international relationships) . Thus, these types of international sporting events contribute (explain how) to a great level to combat tensions.

Another aspect in this argument is admirers (word choice) travel to distinct places to cheer up (wrong word) their national team. In this scenario, it offers an opportunity (to do what?) for supporters, especially of the winning team, and it becomes a moment of proud (word form) as gaining international recognisation (spelling) across the globe. Therefore, people can be patriots in (article) true sense. Nevertheless, history has observed some occassions (spelling) of bloodsheds (uncountable) and disruption (word choice) of government properties by the same in case of failures. To cite an example, there had been (tense) cases of personal physical abuses and demolishing (unusual word choice) of public properties in the place (which place in India?) in India.

To sum up, it can be inferred from (article) above arguments the sports matches and international sports competitions can be essential in bringing together and developing brotherhoodness (spelling) among people and nations as well, but it must be organised by considering this risk factor involved in them.

Task Achievement

All parts of the topic are clearly answered, including a clear statement that these events are essential, as well as the points of easing of international tensions, releasing of patriotic emotions and safety.

A few ideas could be more fully extended, which limits the task achievement to band 7, as these points prevent the answer from meeting the band 8 requirement of a ‘well-developed’ response. This could be fixed with a few more sentences to completely develop and extend the main ideas.

  • Addresses all parts of the task
  • Presents a clear position throughout the response
  • Presents, extends and supports main ideas, but there may be a tendency to over-generalise and/or supporting ideas may lack focus

Coherence and cohesion

There are some great examples of coherence here. The writer uses cohesive devices well and there is clear progression.

There are a few points which are a little unclear (e.g. demolishing of public properties in the place – which place?) and a missing conjunction (these are and/or/but/so etc.) – giving underuse of transitions.

There are a couple of very minor referencing errors (using ‘this’ when the writer should use ‘these’ / ‘them’ vs ‘themselves’). Despite these errors, referencing is clear and appropriate, which prevents the essay from being pushed down to band 6 as it is clear what the intended meaning is (see the band 6 descriptor ‘may not always use referencing clearly / appropriately’).

  • Logically organises information and ideas; there is clear progression throughout
  • Uses a range of cohesive devices appropriately although there may be some under-/over-use
  • Presents a clear central topic within each paragraph

Lexical Resource

precision in the way vocabulary is used, and there is definitely an awareness of style and collocation. Here are a few examples of good vocabulary:

  • A vital role
  • A sense of peace and harmony
  • Sense of brotherhood
  • Utmost importance
  • Combat tensions

Word choices are appropriate and contribute to a good, formal academic writing style. Some word choices are a bit awkward or unusual for the essay.

  • Visceral hatred – good vocabulary, but a bit strange in this essay
  • Some occasions of dark days – this sounds a bit strange and affects the style
  • Demolishing public properties (sounds a bit strange – vandalising is better)

There are a few mistakes with word form, word choice and spelling. There aren’t many word choice errors, meeting the band 7 descriptor ‘may produce occasional errors in word choice, spelling and/or word formation’. The intended meaning is always clear.

Some examples are listed below:

  • Internal disputes (word choice error – the writer clearly meant to say disputes between countries – international disputes)
  • Cheer up their team = the team is sad and could be happier… ? (Cheer on their team)
  • A moment of proud as gaining… (word form error – proud = adjective, pride = noun)
  • Recognisation (spelling error/invented word – recognition)
  • Occassions (spelling error – occasions)
  • Brotherhoodness (spelling error/invented word – brotherhood)

One other important point to think about in this task is the lack of adverbs to describe the data. This is not ‘ raw data’ (exact figures) as you would find in a table. So, the writer could have used words like ‘approximately ’ ‘ almost ’ or ‘ just above/below’ to make the information more accurate .

  • Uses a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision
  • Uses less common lexical items with some awareness of style and collocation
  • May produce occasional errors in word choice, spelling and/or word formation

There is a great range of grammar, with good complexity. Mistakes do not reduce meaning and overall, there is some good grammatical control. There are ‘frequent error-free sentences’, but the writer is at risk of going down a band score for grammar because just a few more errors would push this down a band score. Most of the errors occur in the introduction and first body paragraph (word forms are considered lexical errors), which justifies ‘frequent error-free sentences.

Among the errors here, the most obvious are with articles (a/an/the) – they are not always used appropriately (missing in most cases, not required in one case).

  • Uses a variety of complex structures
  • Produces frequent error-free sentences
  • Has good control of grammar and punctuation but may make a few errors

So, that finishes this analysis of IELTS writing task 2 band 7 essay discussing international sports events. Although this essay is quite close to the line, if the writer can clear up some of the grammar mistakes, fix the minor coherence issues and make sure they develop their ideas fully, they should feel quite pleased with their score!

Useful Tips for Writing an IELTS Essay

For the sports IELTS writing task 2, here are a few tips and tricks to improve your band score.

  • Familiarity with the topic
  • Time management
  • Satisfying the requirements

We will now discuss these individually to get a better understanding.

Outline: The essay outline should be clear and precisely related to the topic. This means that at no point in the essay your content should digress from the core points.

The standard outline includes an introduction, the main content body, and the conclusion. Specifically, the introduction should have the power to immediately hook the reader to your essay and provide an overview of your ideas and what the reader will find in the main content body.

So make sure that you are investing some time creating a rough outline of your essay before you start writing. An outline will ensure that you stick to the topic and present relevant ideas.

Vocabulary: An important aspect of your sports essay IELTS exam is using the right words that demonstrate your hold over the English language. Not to mention your knowledge about the subject matter, in this case, sports. So, make sure to use some sports-specific terms in the essay.

With the other types of words that you will be using, too, it is important to ensure relevance, placement, and understanding. The words you write must be legible and rightly placed in context.

Familiarity with the topic: Nobody is expecting you to be aware of a topic in detail. But you should have some idea about the current and trending topics. In sports, topics like substance use in sportspersons, steroids, the credibility of the notion that sports are dangerous, children in sports, and a few more are always current.

The topics in the IELTS exam may also revolve around the same. For instance —

  • Some people think dangerous sports should be banned, while others think people should choose for themselves. (Academic Test, 2017).
  • Many countries want to host international sports events, while other countries think that hosting sports events has more problems than benefits. Discuss both views. (GT Test, 2017).

These two topics were taken from previous years’ IELTS exam question papers. As you can see, the topics are not very specific. They can be easily answered provided you understand the general things involved here. Plus, to gain a better score, you must cite relevant examples to justify the points you will mention in the exam.

Time Management: You cannot and should not spend too much time writing the IELTS essay. The ideal time to spend on this task is 40 minutes, and that too, considering the time you need to plan, understand, write, and review.

So, if you are taking more time than this today, start practising and bring it down to under 40 minutes. Writing 250 words should not take more than 20 minutes. The other 20 minutes you need to spend on planning and other tasks.

One of the main reasons examinees spend more than 40 minutes is their failure to process their thoughts or they get confused with what to write. So, move back to the first point where we talked about the IELTS writing task 2 sports topic outline.

Following the outline can help you complete the task on time. You will be able to process your thoughts easily without deviating from the topic.

Relevant Response: The IELTS writing task 2 is about academic writing. Your prerogative must be to present all the pointers. For instance, “Some people think that dangerous sports should be banned, while others think people should be free to choose.” In this topic, you need to write about both perspectives.

One is for the argument, and the second is against the idea. In both, you need to cite relevant examples to justify your statements and end the discussion with your point of view and rationale behind choosing it.

The academic writing test will mostly ask you to write different perspectives within the 250 words limit. So, while attempting this test, make sure that you present all the information with the pointers mentioned above. Most importantly, do not mix the ‘for’ and ‘against’ arguments at any point.

Sample Answer for IELTS Essay on Sports

Below you will find an essay on a sports topic that we have chosen at random. The model essay is written according to the 6.5 band score. So, writing this type of essay can get you a good score. Make sure to follow every statement and the presentation followed in the essay.

Some people say that sports must be included in the school curriculum. However, others hold the opinion that it shouldn’t be there as it can lead to wasting time, which can be utilised for more effective academic training.

Discuss both perspectives and give your own opinion.

Students nowadays are expected to learn a wide gamut of subjects. This makes some people believe that athletics or sports should be a part of the school curriculum. However, others believe that sports take time in learning, practising, and then training. I think that sports should be a part of the school program and should be started from an early age. Today, we will elaborate on both sides of the argument to paint a better picture.

Going into sports means the students can start doing some physical activity at an early age. Any type of physical activity helps increase the blood flow to the brain, which finetunes our neurons while promoting cell growth.

Sports plays an important role for students as they become mentally capable of learning new things and physically capable of investing time in studying. I think that going into sports will make a student active, more knowledgeable, and social because they make friends while playing.

The naysayers believe that the time students spend on sports can be otherwise invested in becoming better at academics. Being good at academics is essential as it helps students become intelligent and successful. Hence, parents don’t like their kids participating in sports because they don’t want them to be distracted from studying.

As you can see, some parents wish to see their kids playing sports, and others don’t share the same feeling. But, I think that sports is an integral part of education and both of them must be developed simultaneously.

The essay above satisfies the requirements of the task. We have stuck to the word limit and used some relevant words relevant to the topic. You don’t have room to write too much or too little in the IELTS writing task. So, the task is to find a balance between both arguments.

Provide reasoning for your own knowledge and coherently present the information.

Additional Practice Essays on Sports

Now that you have a good understanding of how to write an excellent essay, here are some more questions that you can use to improve your writing skills. Just remember to use the information provided in this blog to get top scores.

  • With the increasing incidence of puberty and being overweight, some people think sports should become a part of the school and university curriculum. To what extent do you agree with this point? Elaborate.
  • Should violent sports like boxing and other forms of martial arts be banned from broadcasting on TV and in international sports events like the Olympics? Discuss and justify your opinions.
  • Sports are great for learning how to work with the team, but some parents think it teaches the vice of competing. Share your opinion and discuss both views.

While you work on these topics, make sure to understand what is asked and write accordingly. You need to justify your requirements and present the information in an easy-to-understand manner.

ielts essay on international sports

Earnings of Sports Professionals

by Anu verma (Ludhiana India)

Successful sports professionals can earn a great deal more money than people in other important professions. Some people think is fully justified while others think it is unfair. Discuss both these views and give your opinion. It is irrefutable fact that games are the symbol of prosperity and wealth of a nation. Nowadays athletes are paid with higher wages as compared to other weighty professions. It is due to certain reasons.Prior to opine, it is necessary to discuss the importance of sports as well as other career options. To embark with, there are various professions which highly attract human beings such as doctor, engineer, astronaut etc. These all professions need hard work with concerted efforts. These profession are related to the well being of society and lead to many new discoveries for mankind. Albeit, these are highly respectable professions yet government does not pay them according to their working hours. By doing this state authorities are giving false impressions and somehow encouraging biasness. In future these issue can sparkle numerous debates and adversely affect to economy of a country. On the flip side, people who think that sports-persons should paid highly, they must support the fact that sports persons career is of short duration. They start almost after 20s and continued to play efficiently up-to only 35years. Secondly, they need more salary to maintain their physique and to enhance their sport skills. To illustrate, athletic persons need balanced diet, gymnastic facilities, sports equipments to practice regularly. Next, they win various championship to make their nation proud and make their country respectable among other nations.finally, they also work harder than other professions when do practice in ground despite of sunlight or winter season difficulties. In compendium and In my opinion it is undoubtedly fair to give huge pay to sport persons in order to meet their basic needs or to maintain their lifestyle. Please give my essay some feedback

Banning Dangerous Sports

Some people think that dangerous sports should be banned, while others disagree. Do you agree or disagree? From the evidence of the history, dangerous sports have been more preferred by people than other competitions. Despite this fact, some people hold the opinion that these deadly sports should be banned as they may hurt athlete’s health and even ruin their lives. I disagree with this view and believe that such sports can easing international tensions and bring people together. Firs of all, the history has shown that extreme competitions could even interrupt battles and nations together to stadiums. From the ancient world, when Greeks and Romans would leave battlefields to participate in the gladiators games. To the modern politics disputes, when athletes from Israel and Palestine would forget their differences and compete fair and peacefully in martial games. Moreover, these sports usually attract the world’s attention that could force leaders to stop their disputes and review options to make partnerships with the opponents. Secondly, dangerous sports can bring people with different background together. For example, my country is a multicultural one, but, people are still divided into ethnical groups. However, MMI fights is a national sport and people with different culture and believes would support together our sportsmen and sportswomen during the season. It is clear that these competitions greatly benefit our community teaching the citizens tolerance. Nevertheless, it is impossible to ignore arguments against dangerous sports. It is obvious that there is a huge risk for athletes, but the event organizers could improve rules and safety equipment to reduce this risk and to make such sports less dangerous. In conclusion, banning dangerous sports can bring more disadvantages than benefits. In my opinion, we should focus on improving facilities, standards and rules for these sports to minimize the risk.

Should dangerous sports be banned?

Should dangerous sports be banned?

Some people think that dangerous sports should be banned while other disagree. Do you agree or disagree? Banning dangerous sports, such as motocross, bull run, hose riding is a controversial tropics from last few decades, but those dangerous sports failures are really horrible and critical, so that I will argue , life threatening sports have to be banded Firstly I will explain, what are the major benefits of the basic sports such as cricket , table tennis or foot ball , That sport helps to enhance and maintain healthy lifestyle , even sports helps to ease the stress and bring happiness. But dangerous sports always increase the stress of contester because of the risky environment and it mostly enhances the fear instead of the happiness Even not only that, due to the massive failure of the life threatening sports, contesters can permanently disable or it could be a chance to die, As a example, competitors who play boxing as a sport have more chance to affect in cancers in their face in the future, due to the massive impacts, which cause to distort the cell in their face, even motor sports contester have chance to be disable due to an accidents when they compete Human life is unique resource to the world, so it should not be lost or disable by themself by doing dangerous sports, even dangerous sports not only put contesters life in risk, it makes contester’s family miserable and sometime it cause to damage the non relevant lives also, so having those points in to account, I strongly agree to ban the dangerous sports to save valuable human lives

Youth and Sports Competitions

by magi (tehram)

Some people believe that sport competitions are a source of emotional stress for young people. Therefore, youth should be banned from participating in sport competitions. Do you agree or disagree? Whether it is a sport match or an academic test, competition has always been a preponderance part of life and it contribute to immense pressure for all ages; consequently, there is no escape from rivalry. From my point of view, l strongly disagree with this argument that prohibiting adolescents from participating in sport competition for the sake of alleviating emotional stress. To start out, restriction in certain activity cannot prevent from emotional distress or intellectual involvement, or promoting another skills. Broadly speaking, studies have shown students who do not associate in competition are vulnerable than some of whom are active in sport events. To be more specific, pressurized sport condition not only make them stronger against tough situation in future but also it shape their characters so sociable. As a case in point, if they be a member of Football, volleyball or basketball team at school or be a individual sport they would learn team working, respect for the rival and understanding concept of defeat and triumph; furthermore, they would enjoy better mental and emotional health. In conjunction with the influence of participating in competition the undeniable role of physical fitness improvement should not be underestimated when this issue is dealt with. Generally put, apart from health benefits that sport activities brings for them, physical health and fitness is one of the most substantial factors for mental and intellectual health. To illuminate, regular as well as professional exercise in order to improve physical fitness and motivation is indispensable for participating in competition. it is a immense discrepancies between youngsters that cause make them so successful in education and life. To conclude, as far as I am personally concerned, there is no justification for banning adolescents form participating in sport competition. Notwithstanding the high level of stress in this events, the advantages is so remarkable than disadvantages. *** Please help me with IELTS by giving me some advice on my essay. Thanks

Sports Professionals Earnings

by Sameer (Mumbai India)

Successful sports professionals can earn a great deal more money than people in other important professions. Some people think this is fully justified while others think it is unfair. Discuss both these views and give your opinion. In these days of the millennium, players of sports are treated as celebrities in terms of their pay package. This has sparked a heated argument on whether it is justifiable or biased. However, in my opinion, athletes should be paid lucratively as their health is on a threat but other professions too should also be given priorities. The prime factor behind paying huge salaries to sports person is putting their lives at risks. To be more precise, this profession demands rigorous training and an ability to perform a consistently well at speed, under fatigue and pressure conditions in a competition environment. This can cause physical or mental injury which can be detrimental to their lives. For instance, in a recent survey, it was discussed that frequent head blows can cause injury to the brain that can lead to depression, memory loss or dementia. Therefore, an attractive package is fair compensation to their countless energy and the huge health risk. On the other hand, paying enormous salaries to sports person can create disparity among other professions which can lead to a shortage of these expertises. To elaborate more, professions such as doctors, teachers leave no stone unturned in making the world a better planet to reside. They too undergo a gruelling training and internship to hone their skills. Doctors work day in day out in keeping their patients' health. Similarly, teachers work tirelessly in moulding their students’ behaviour to make them civilized citizens. Hence, to avoid paucity of skills, these professions should not be overlooked in terms of payment. In conclusion, athletes sacrifice a lot in terms of their health so they are paid excessively which are just; however, other occupations should also be valued and compensated appropriately.

Success in Sport Essay

by Vannie (Canada)

Some people think that physical strength is important for success in sport, while other think that mental strength is more important. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. Physical energy is considered to be an imperative aspect for achievements in the field of sports. However, many individuals argue that mental strength also plays a pivotal role. This essay represents view for both sides along with the opinion. Firstly, talking about physical energy, regular exercises enables an individual to stay fit and healthy by stretching body muscles that keeps the body active. Secondly, exercises can be performed in a way of practising any activity related to sports; for an instance, playing tennis or football may provides an encouragement and an exploration of new ideas and techniques that can be applied during games. Lastly, exercises reduces the risk of health issues, such as alterations in blood pressure, cardio-vascular diseases, by regulating blood flow in whole body that prevents risk of heart and brain strokes. On the other side, a healthy mind lives in a healthy body. According to this phrase, mental strength performs a crucial role in sports activities. In today's world of competition, a person came through many situations that are full of stress, for example, team pressure, pressure of winning or loosing the game. Moreover, an individual cannot focus on sports unless or until his mental strength is not strong. A stress may leads a player into depression which can put him on stress releasing medication for his entire life. Furthermore, state of happiness provides relaxation to mental power that boost up the confidence level to perform well in the sports. In my opinion, both physical as well as mental strength are considered to be mandatory because if exercises helps in the growth of body similarly mental strength gives confidence and support to play well.

Improving Public Health Essay

Some people say that the best way to improve public health is by increasing the number of sports facilities. Others, however, say that this would have little effect on public health and that other measures are required. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. It is argued by some people that the most efficient method for improving and developing public health is by building more sports facilities; whereas, some people claim that this would not have any significant effect on public health; therefore, other solutions should be thought. In my opinion, doing exercise contributes human beings’ health more than we can imagine, but there are certainly better ways to improve public health rather than the increase in number of facilities. To begin, some people view to open new sports centers as the best way of developing public health as doing physical exercises increases the stamina of human beings by improving their cardiovascular capacities. Furthermore, it contributes to the human well-being not only on physically but also on mentally. More time is spent on sport facilities, less time to think about other issues, relieving human’s mind; thus, we can see more peaceful people everywhere. On the other hand, it is thought by some that there are also other measures for improving public health better than the new sports centers. One of these is educating people about health care because if they would know what to do when they feel sick, they can get well much quicker. Other method is cleaning of the public areas such as trains or libraries should be done more frequently because possible viruses around these areas could affect humans’ health in serious way. Last possible way is that foods and drinks on the markets should be regulated more strictly because there has been a hot debate in recent years about possible harms of GMOs on human health; therefore, regulations of government on food and beverages would be a wise choice. Even though an increase in the number of sports facilities can develop public health importantly, I do not think that it is the best idea for public’s health, so other views can have more direct effects on public health.

Sports Professionals Salaries

Successful sports professionals can earn a great deal more money than people in other important professions. Some people think this is completely fair while others think that it is not justified. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. It is true that some successful sports professionals can earn a great deal more money than other important profession's people. In this passage, I am going to give the views from both sides of the coin in this passage. People who are earning handsome amounts of money in the sports profession have worked hard to come to the spot where they are right now. If we talk about a cricketer then out of twenty-thirty thousand people who are aiming to go pro, only ten to fifteen people get selected. In this long and hard journey, some of the hustlers have lost their jobs, their education, and what not to fulfill their dream so Its only fair that those who worked their way to the spot should deserve something great as this much competition is not even in the education field, and you surely don't have to train yourself too much to get a good job in the educational field. Where on the other end if we look into it differently then, there are so many working employees whether they are private or government they don't really have a good salary in their respective jobs. Sometimes it is so bad that they are not even able to afford proper health care and education for their children. It's not only happening in third-world countries it's also happening in other developed nations. People who have spent all their time studying to get a good job are now stuck with something which is not even helping them get proper living necessities. If we compare the salaries of Indian army soldiers to those of cricketers then you would be shocked to see that the salary of an Indian army soldier is around 6,000 USD per year whereas an Indian team cricket player would easily earn around 600,000 USD and its not fair. In 6,000 USD per annum you won't even be able to afford a good college in India leaving the other things aside. I think that the situation is not fair, as the soldiers have to work as hard as the cricketer or even more to get a place in the army, As a matter of fact, its true that they are willingly serving the nation but they at least should be provided with enough salary so that they could help their children get into a good "private college".

It is a well-known fact that the idea of sports can be a magnificent approach to address and ameliorate sensitive issues. In the past, republics have been known to settle controversial situations through the medium of sports. Thus, it is widely believed that global sports events are a remarkable avenue to maintain world peace and harmony. I am a strong supporter of this notion. In the following paragraphs, I will delve deeper into the topic and justify my views with relevant instances.

First of all, we must acknowledge the ability of sports in bringing people together. Regardless of caste, creed , race or gender, sports enthusiasts recognize each other’s passion and love for their favourite game and the players. The realm of sports is a model for being tolerant of the differences between people and showcasing positive values and sportsmanship. One of the prime examples of this is the Olympic Games which are held every four years. It is an international multi-sport event where nations from all over the globe take part in and display the prowess of their nationals in various sporting contests. These competitions are an outstanding platform for athletes to exhibit their talents and also for the entire world to appreciate these individuals and their nations.

Furthermore, international sports have a positive impact on the citizens of nations as well. There is no doubt that every democracy has numerous difficulties that they suffer from, and sports serve as a healthy distraction for the people of a country. When the national team of any sport performs well in international competitions and tournaments, the spirit of the entire nation is elevated. Additionally, such inter-nation sports tournaments also attract a lot of foreign investment, thereby bringing in economic as well as an amalgamation of cultures.

Although, sometimes, the emotions of sports fans get the better of them and unfavourable outcomes even spark controversy. Nevertheless, the overall impact of sports is far more optimistic to consider little bickering , which the management can regulate.

Finally, I would like to add that international sports are essential for maintaining cordial relations between nations, as well as keeping the general populace of a country content.

Popular events like the football world cup and other international sporting occasions are essential in easing international tensions and releasing patriotic emotions in a safe way. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

ielts essay on international sports

First of all, the World Cup, Olympics and other international games work for easing tensions among different nations. For example, South and North Korea have football games regularly two nations a chance to understand each other . In the mid of North Korean supporters came to South Korea with the footballers and they were very excited during the sporting events. Even if it sounds ridiculous, many South Koreans were quite surprised at that moment when North Koreans shouted and cried during the match. We all realized that they were very normal sports fans even though they were occasionally very secretive. Through the sports, two divided nations could reduce their political and ideological tensions and could feel the patriotic unity.

On the other hand, some sports matches can make international relations worse. For instance, football or baseball games between Korea and Japan are always big matches in two countries where . Sometimes, after the matches, the two rivals blame each other and their patriotic emotions explode in an aggressive way. scenario is that the troubles caused by losing games affect the players directly.

In conclusion, I think that international sporting occasions can be one of the good ways to ease tensions or to release patriotism safely. However, I believe that games can not be the fundamental ways for the sound patriotism or peaceful international relations.

But in this essay, you haven’t mentioned in introduction that you are going to discuss negative effects as well…however you have some ideas about positive aspects? Can you elaborate, I didn’t get this point?

There is no requirement in IELTS to list all points your essay is going to discuss in the very introduction. The writer of this essay discussed the positive and the negative effects of international sport events and arrived at their conclusion in the last paragraph, which works fine as an essay structure.

We should not write it in introduction that what we are going to disscuss in body paragraphs??

I feel this information isn’t necessary, because it doesn’t make your essay better in any way. What would make your essay better is good organisation of information in your body paragraphs, so it is clear what your arguments are, how you support them, and what examples you use.

Hi! This is Nimesh Pls give me on module write essay in easy to easy step…….

Hi Nimesh, you can read how to write a Band 8 essay here .

I want to.improve ielts band score 7777

It is little bit confusing, you have to clear your own opinion in introduction.

Are you partially agree with the statement?

Words in blue??? Kindly clr these wrds are wrong or used as sort of vocab

The words/expressions underlined in blue are wrong, and when you hold mouse over them on desktop (or tap on them, on mobile) a bubble appears with the correct version to replace that word/expression.

What’s indicated the blur dotted line in this essay

What you see underlined in blue is the erroneous expression and when you hold mouse over it, a tool tip window appears showing the correct expression.

Hey guys . I wanted to ask some questions about writing how to improve my writing skills even though I have vocabulary and an idea of writing. In the main idea is I always get under 6 point only on my writing.

Hi Garid, have you ever had your writing evaluated? If not, our writing correction service can help you get an understanding of what areas you need to work on and how to start scoring higher. If you prefer a self-study option, then may I recommend ‘ IELTS Success Formula ‘ book to help with your writing. It has a large section that we call ‘The Writing Doctor’ and you can find in it solutions to all your writing problems.

Exactly. In introduction its agree but later in third paragraph there is a change of opinion So, he is partially agree with the statement.

Explanation of essay is great. however, he did not take a stance of statement, whether he is going to write agree OR disagree… Kindly read the question…To what extent do you agree OR disagree with opinion….OR means we only need to choose one side…if there is and then we have to discuss both one..

The writer partially agrees with the statement which is fine for this type of task. They discussed why popular events help with international relations, and also why this isn’t always the case, and arrive at a suitable conclusion in the last paragraph.

As far as I know, you have to support one idea strongly. If you are agree you should give all idea to support agree or if you disagree you have to provide all idea for being your idea strong.partial agree may can be reduced marks a bit. Am I right?

When the task prompt says “To what extent do you agree or disagree”, it means you are allowed to partially agree or disagree, and it won’t negatively affect your mark.

it would influence the examiner more if you have mentioned your plan and structure of essay in introduction .

so it would assist you in geting some extra bands.

Absolutely not, this isn’t a requirement for a higher score. An essay that is written well doesn’t need an explanation in the intro paragraph as to what will come next – introducing the topic and the writer’s opinion is enough. I have seen test takers do that, but it won’t result in a higher score – that is a misconception.

International Sporting Events Are Essential For Easing International Tensions

Major sports events like Olympics and World Cup Football Championship generate considerable interest all over the world. People all over the world watch them and support their teams with great fervour. Some people believe that such events are essential for easing tension between countries. I fully agree with this view.

Sports have always brought people together. The Greeks who started the Olympics used to even halt wars to take part in these events. Even today, wars and conflicts take a back seat when there is a major sporting event like World Cup or Olympics. That is because the soldiers who fight the wars also want to watch these games. Consequently a sense of calm prevails all over the world during such events.

Sporting events also give people a safe opportunity to express their patriotism. When people support their teams they forget their regional identities and think of themselves as one. For example, when there is a cricket match between India and Pakistan the whole of Indians come together to root for their team. People forget their regional identities and other differences and become one. For spectators, supporting their own team is also a great way to express their patriotism. When their team defeats the rival team in the World Cup, people experience the same exhilaration that they would experience if their country had won a war. However, unlike a war, sporting events do not lead to bloodshed. In other words, supporting one’s team in a sporting event is a safe and peaceful way to give vent to patriotic feelings.

To conclude, major sporting events bring people together and help reduce tension among countries. They are also a safe way to express feelings of patriotism.
