you are just going to have to accept the comment on CCS under the wild-card comments, as a possible reason.
unless you are just phishing for those in the know to expound on the, reasons unknown.

Hoberg missed the last 2 weeks of the season for reasons unknown.
and P.S. 5 minutes later
a big thing to look for under 1st year DS assignments, is the confidence of the league to put a new comer into the HP rotation, rather than starting in RF or in the replay booth, like they did with Hoberg (HP opening game) in 2019.
and with Hoberg hired FT in 2017, we could be looking at a future CC at the 10 year point or under, maybe since Drew Coble in his 10th year in 1991.

Should The Game come playoffs have the best umpires on the field who will call the best game...or should we simply reward seniority? We currently have 8 teams playing 4 series, requiring 24 umpires plus the replay umpires. I have Hoberg as a top 5 umpire and the data supports that. For certain, he is in the top 24. I don't have to accept anything...if Hoberg is injured, if he has a family or personal matter to attend to, it's an infamnia.

Porter was indeed scheduled to work the ALCS. He was indeed replaced last minute. He is not injured, and at CCS we don't comment on personal matters! (not that you would ask)
I don't think it's the amount of time that Hoberg missed, but it's the fact that he missed the last 2 weeks so whatever kept him out then is probably still keeping him out.

Mlb playoffs: the umpires for the 2023 alds and nlds, share this article.
If there’s a close call during the MLB playoffs, you may be wondering who the umpire is who made it.
If so, we’re here to help with the full list of umpires for the 2023 American League Division Series and the National League Division Series, with four different sets of games that need officials.
A reminder that there are also extra umps for these series, with one stationed in left field and another in right, and that the umpires all rotate assignments from game to game.
Got all that? Good. Here’s the list of umpires for each of the four ALDS and NLDS series:
