1 Minute Speech on Rain In English

A very good morning to one and all present here. Today, I will be giving a short speech on the topic of rain.

Wikipedia states the following to define the term ‘rain’: “Rain is water droplets that have condensed from atmospheric water vapour and then fall under gravity. Rain is a major component of the water cycle and is responsible for depositing most of the fresh water on the Earth.”

This, of course, is rather scientific and mechanical, isn’t it? Yes, rain is an important source of water required for our sustenance. But, in reality, rain has more artistic notions associated with it!

Even in literature, rain is associated with both positive and negative connotations alike. Rain could be gentle and romantic in one poem and dark, violent, and gloomy in another! There is a whole nursery rhyme attributed to rain that we are all accustomed to, in fact!

Rain, in general, however, is a welcome phenomenon, storms and unpleasant floods notwithstanding. Rain gives life.

After a lengthy period of scorching heat, the plants and trees sprout new leaves as they receive natural water. The entire surroundings exude lush vegetation that is pleasing to see. My favourite festivals, such as Raksha Bandhan, Independence Day, Teej, and Dussehra, are all celebrated during the rainy season. During this season, we also like eating many fresh fruits and fully ripe mangoes. While it is raining, my mother prepares various wonderful dishes like pakoras, halwa, and idli to relish our taste buds and set the mood as per the season.

Small ponds are also built to collect rainwater and then used to create electricity.

Following are some guidelines that everyone should follow to stay healthy and safe during the monsoon season:

1. Wear Appropriate Rain Gear  

People must wear rain gear such as waterproof boots, hooded raincoats, and umbrellas while venturing out during the rainy season. Children with a weakened immune system should not go outside in the rain without suitable rain gear, as they may acquire a cold.

2. Warm Water Showers 

If kids are soaked, it is recommended that they take a warm shower. This will assist their bodies in regaining control and returning to a normal temperature. People can also bathe with hot water because the temperature drops dramatically during the monsoon season.

3. Basic Safety  

Children and adults participating in outdoor activities such as swimming should return to the campus if they hear thunder, even if it has not yet begun to rain. Avoiding open areas like playgrounds and metal items like light poles is recommended.

4. Cleanliness

Rain offers relief to all people. On rainy day farmers look very happy. They rejoice because rain helps the growth of crops. Rain is good for irrigation in the areas where there is little access of water. It increases the yield and helps in the fertility of soil.

The rainy day is considered as the boon for trees, plants, animals and humans. Rain makes weather pleasant and attractive. When it rains all living beings animals, plants and humans become fresh and happy. Specially children bathe in rain and play in the water of rain and enjoy a lot.

Rain water is considered pure and refreshing. It purify the impurities of body and refreshes the mood. Rainbow is only seen after rain. When the rainbow appears on the horizon it gives very happy and pleasant feelings. When it rains in summer it provides respite to all living forms from hot and dry weather.

When it rains I rush to open fields where when drips of rain fall on the earth, a sweet smell of soil makes me highly overjoyed. To me all fragrances and perfumes mean nothing as compared to the smell of soil.

On rainy day animals rejoice and celebrate joy as the Peacock dances when it rains and frogs jump and leap merrily on the soil and all animals produces their sounds to welcome rain.

Rainy day can be described as the nature’s way to revive and rejuvenate the earth and all life forms on mother earth. It brings sigh of relief and respite from hot weather and pollution present in the air. The rain purifies the atmosphere and cleanse all impurities present in air and makes air cool and fresh.

I often enjoy rainy day.I go for outing and stand in the open atmosphere. I love to bathe in rain water. I enjoy watching the clouds sailing across the sky. Lightning and thunder are also worth arresting scenes of rainy day. The flashes of lighting in the sky and rumbling of distant sounds of thunder in the atmosphere makes one feel very happy.

It is very worth surrendering when children gather to float their paper boats in rain water. They shout and scream when their boats sink by the fast currents of water.

Not only human celebrate the rainy season and enjoy it but all animals also enjoy rainy season. The Peacocks in the forest produce sounds and dance in rainy season. The frogs croak, lambs and sheep bleat, buffaloes and cows look very happy. The cats and dogs dive in the running water of rain. The horses neigh merrily, the rabbits hops joyfully and the parrots sing.

In rainy season,  it seems as though that the life has returned. The bewitching greenery of plants and trees and happiness of animals and humans elevate the mood. Rainy season spread colors of joy, happiness and mirth all around.

Rainy season is a blessing in disguise. However,  sometimes excessive rains cause severe floods which affect the lives of poor people. The floods cause heavy loss of life and property. Many people become homeless and starve and the crops are washed away in floods.

The transportation system is disturbed and the communication network is also disrupted due to floods and rains. Mainly the devastation of crops due to floods and rains lead to shortage of food items. The prices of food items spike up that make the poos suffer to a greater  extent.

Despite all these things rainy season is a blessing from God. It enlivens the plants and trees. The trees become dark and green which attracts the eyes. The impurities of  air are washed away in the rain water an it becomes fresh and pure.

The rain makes mother earth fresh and cool. When the drops of water fall on the surface of the earth, the enchanting smell of soil is spread in the environment. And, thereby, the earth gets a new life. All the heat of sun is blown away with the falling drops of water. The Earth becomes cool and all living forms on earth enjoy rainy season greatly.

I was moved gazing at the natural beauty of the garden. Trees had taken bath and stood lush green. I could sense the happiness of the trees. All my senses were occupied in the presence of natural beauty around in the garden.

I found sparrows, parrots, Mina, crows and some other small and large birds singing melodiously on the branches of trees. All birds were leaping from one branch to another merrily. The rain had rejuvenated the trees and birds in the garden. I captured some pictures of birds an flowers and I returned home.

As soon as I reached home my mother called me and asked me where I had been for three hours?  I replied I had been at the garden. She smiled and asked me to go to market and to fetch vegetables and fruits. I went to a near by city. It had rained heavily so there was squalor and dirty water on the roads. Specially the vegetable market was full of rain water.

I bought fruits and vegetables and returned home. My mother prepared lunch. I took lunch with my family members and asked my younger brother to play cricket with me. We took bat and ball and invited cousins and near relatives to play cricket. We then went into an open ground, where we played cricket.We played cricket till evening. When sun started to set off we all stopped playing and rushed towards home.

Rainy season has always inspired and activated me. After rain I feel energetic, enthusiastic and active. I have observed that rain bring activity in me and makes me shun laziness. I love rainy season because it rejuvenate internally and brings greenery around. New leaves start sprouting on trees and environment become green and cool.

What is rain, and how does it come? When we put a wet shirt out in the sunshine on a hot day, it is quite dry in a short time. Where has all the water gone that made the shirt so wet? It has been sucked up by the warm air as water vapour. As a rule we cannot see this vapour but when we dry our shirt before a fire, we sometimes see it steaming off like thin mist, and then it disappears in the air.

Warm air is like a sponge, and sucks up water as vapour, and can hold a lot, though we cannot see it. But cold air cannot hold much, and very cold air scarcely any. So if warm air full of moisture, or water vapor, is suddenly chilled, it is like squeezing a sponge when it is full of water. The sponge has to let its water go, and the warm air when made cold has to give up a lot of the water vapour it holds. This vapour first turns into very tiny water drops that float in the air and which we can see; and in that form, we call it mist, fog, or cloud. If the air is made still colder, the tiny drops of the mist flow together and make large drops, till these become so heavy that the air can no longer hold them up, and they fall to the ground as dew and rain.

Now we can understand how the rain comes. When the sun shines on the sea, rivers, lakes, and damp land, it warms the air over them, which sucks up a lot of water in the shape of unseen vapour. Now warm air is lighter than cold air, and so it rises up, while cold air falls to the earth. The warm air full of moisture rises till it gets high up in the sky, where the air is colder. Then it is chilled and so can riot hold all the vapour it has, some of which condenses and can be seen as mist. When the mist is high up in the sky, we call it cloud. Now, these clouds are blown along by the wind over the land; and if they come up against cold mountains, or colder air, the tiny drops that make the clouds run together, and become big drops; and these fall to the earth below as rain.

If we could follow a drop of water from the sea, up to the clouds, down in rain on to the mountains, down streams and rivers back to the sea, we would know how wonderful God’s way of watering His great garden, this world is.

For example, How to bake cookies? Even though it involves information on baking cooking it also gives you the step-by-step process of performing the task based on the information.

Persuasive Speech- This type of speech does not have information or demonstration. The primary focus of a persuasive speech is to influence one’s mind and make changes in their life. For example, Donate your eyes - this topic of speech persuades or convinces an individual of the act learned.

Entertaining Speech- This type of speech does not have any information, demonstration, or influence upon the audience. This type of speech is merely for keeping the audience hooked. For example, a compere at a wedding.

An Overview of Rainwater Harvesting Speech  

Rainwater harvesting is the collection and storage of rainwater, instead of allowing it to flow away, for future use. The collected water is contained in percolating wells, shafts, etc. It is often used for drinking purposes and the extracted water can be used in irrigation, plantations, domestic use, etc. One of the oldest and easiest methods for storing freshwater is rainwater harvesting. Today, I am here to deliver a speech on rainwater harvesting. The climate is constantly changing, mostly due to changes in the atmosphere, resulting in an unprecedented rate of temperature change. The length of different seasons has also been altered.

The period of the rainy season and the winter season was shortened (less than 4 months), while the summer season was increased by more than 4 months. The amount of precipitation and its groundwater recharge has also been drastically decreased. In response, the groundwater systems such as tube wells, etc. have now begun to collapse at many locations.

People do not get water for their domestic needs; it becomes difficult to plant crops; reservoirs dry up, etc. In short, the lack of water is huge. The government is spending large sums of money to combat these issues.

The harvesting of natural water (rainwater) plays a very important role in this situation, diluting the problem of water shortages.

Different methods of water harvesting have been developed, which are in use worldwide for a very long time back. "As mentioned, few of the very earliest Middle East agriculture was focused on the diversion of "wadi" flow to agricultural fields, a kind of water harvesting and irrigation recycling of harvested water.

The water harvesting systems were reported to be used in the Negev desert (Israel) around 4000 years ago or more, where water harvesting was carried out by clearing the hillsides of vegetation to increase the runoff and directing the runoff to the fields on the plains.

Similarly, from at least 1000 years ago, floodwater farming has been documented in practice in the desert regions of Arizona and northwest New Mexico. The micro-catchment technique for tree growing was identified in southern Tunisia, which was discovered by travelers Pacey and Cullis (1986) in the nineteenth century.

The "Khadin" scheme in India, in which floodwater is impounded behind earthen bunds, and crops are planted in the field based on the residual moisture content due to impounded water infiltration.

Farmers have also documented the use of conventional and small-scale water harvesting systems in sub-Saharan Africa. The method of water harvesting is documented in some West African countries by constructing a simple structure using stones. The practice of water harvesting has been documented in Sudan and the Central Rangelands of Somalia through the construction of the Bund system.

There are different advantages and uses for rainwater harvesting; however, harvesting systems have to work and maintain to ensure water quality. Water has to be distilled and filtered for use as well. Rainwater should be collected by every person, so it can be used for other occupations. The water on the surface and roof should be protected from pollution as it helps to increase the level of groundwater.

Short Speech on Rainwater Harvesting

Today, I am here to deliver a speech on rainwater harvesting. Water harvesting is, in a broad sense, defined as the collection of runoff for its productive use.' It is possible to harvest rainwater (overland flow/runoff) from the roofs and ground surfaces or intermittent or ephemeral streams (watercourses).

A variety of methods of water harvesting are available for various applications. The efficient use of harvested water includes the growth of provisions for domestic and livestock feed, the supply of crops, the processing of food and trees, and the construction of water bodies for the cultivation of fish and ducks.

Water harvesting incorporates different methods or activities focused on the use of runoff from un-cropped areas to replace the cropped areas with the harvested water.

In addition, it is also important to store water for irrigation, domestic, or livestock use, but the use of harvested water for crop production is often given priority. In general, in arid and semi-arid areas where droughts occur very frequently and irrigation is not feasible, water harvesting is found to be very suitable.

While Water Harvesting in the Area Of Water Scare is Very Conducive to Crop Cultivation, the Rate of Adoption is Still Much Lower, for the Following Reasons:

Reluctance to preserve runoff areas that are clean and weedless.

High-cost participation.

Strong labor requirements for building and maintaining the facilities for water harvesting.

Small land availability for water-harvesting structure building.

In Addition to the Above Factors, There are also a Few Important Points that are Likely to Adversely Affect Water Harvesting:

High risk of damage to crops due to long-term stagnation of the area's water.

Increased risk of soil erosion and soil depletion in the catchment area.

Intensive soil erosion is possible in the region.

Rainwater harvesting can also be carried out on an industrial and household basis. You can provide your freshwater supply, reduce your water bill and make sure you never run out of water. All you need is sufficient equipment and knowledge of the rainwater harvesting process.

There are 8 components involved - catchments, coarse mesh, gutter, conduits, first-flushing, filter, storage facility, and lastly recharge structure. All these different components have to function in order for the rainwater harvesting system to complete the entire process of using rainwater for reuse.
