Research Assistant Program

Work for USIP

USIP Research Assistants (RAs) assist in a variety of tasks and projects. These can range from in-depth study of a particular issue or geography, support to a fellow or expert, advancing specific team goals, or broad support to an entire program. They are paid between $15.20 - $16.00 per hour (depending on degree level) and work an average of 20 hours per week during the school year and 40 hours per week during summer and school breaks. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis to fill program needs. Interviews begin for RA positions one to two months before the anticipated start date.

In addition to local students, USIP is flexible in hiring students who attend a college or university in a different state.

Only full-time college and university students are eligible for the program.

Only full-time students from universities belonging to the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area (CUWMA) can be considered for these openings. CUWMA members include:

Position Summary

Nevis Laboratories, Columbia University is searching for a full-time Research Staff Assistant.  Reporting to, and under the direction of the PI, and working in a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment, the new hire will provide technical support for our work on the ATLAS Experiment, one of the two main experiments at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.  The new hire will be based at Nevis Labs, located in Irvington, NY.

**This is a one-year, grant-funded position.**

Responsibilities

• Testing electronic instrumentation being developed for the readout of the ATLAS calorimeters.
• Maintaining data acquisition software used in the test stands and setups developed for the ATLAS readout electronics.
• Maintaining data analysis software required to precisely measure the performance of the ATLAS readout electronics.
• Performing the data review required to determine the performance of the ATLAS readout electronics.
• Attending working group meetings.
• Performing related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics.
• 6 months of experience in a research environment. 

Other Requirements

• Experience with Python, C++ and Root.
• Excellent organizational and collaborative skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Job Summary:

This Medical Program Assistant in the Department of Surgery assists faculty and other staff by coordinating their complex daily activities allowing them to complete the successful performance of their teaching, research, service, clinical, outreach, and administrative duties. • 15% Schedules logistics and secures or distributes resources for program meetings, department events, conferences, and travel

Qualifications:

Required: - At least one year of experience in an administrative setting. - Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills - Exceptional administrative and interpersonal skills Preferred: - Experience with Microsoft Suite or equivalent. - At least one year of relevant experience in a healthcare setting. - Experience with travel arrangements and travel reimbursements. - Understanding of medical terminology.
