Success Stories

Akeeme immigrated to NYC from Jamaica with his family. Despite their hard work, his mother had little time to guide him in finding a career. Feeling disconnected from school, Akeeme's perspective changed when he received a scholarship to the Work ED Cybersecurity Externship at the Brooklyn STEAM Center. Initially unsure of his future, he discovered a passion for cybersecurity through hands-on challenges and mentorship.

After joining an advanced externship and interning at IBM, Akeeme excelled, earning an Outstanding Team Member Award. At 21, he now works at IBM in Cloud and Watson X, and has put a down payment on a home for his family in Queens. We're incredibly proud of him!

As principal, Valerie was approached by a 4th grader named Ezekial, who told her, "I can't read." Initially, she thought he was joking, but soon learned he only knew eight letter sounds. Driven by her commitment to student success, Valerie and her team dedicated an hour each day to help Ezekial. In just four months, he progressed to reading at a second-grade level.

Ezekial, who once broke his glasses out of frustration, gained confidence as he improved. Despite being moved through multiple foster homes, he thrived, becoming a class leader and even serving as the MC for school events, thanks to Valerie and her team's support.

Natalia, a 6th grader from a recently immigrated Mexican family, struggled with confidence as her father discouraged her passion for art, believing it wouldn't lead to a stable career. On the first day of our Game Design program, Natalia’s attitude transformed when she and her team were tasked with creating a video game, including the story, artwork, and characters. Her excitement grew as she collaborated with her team.

Over five days, Natalia designed an impressive game concept called Swamp Quest . At the program’s closing ceremony, she proudly showcased her work, leaving everyone, including her emotional father, amazed by her talent. Natalia left with confidence and a renewed sense of purpose, and her father with a new appreciation for her creative potential.
