SNL's "Teacher PSA" Sketch Gets Real About the Most Important Job: "Y'all Won"

"I have officially endured my last Skibidi Toilet."

The week preceding Maya Rudolph 's May 11 return to  Saturday Night Live   was Teacher Appreciation Week 2024, a nationally-designated time for parents and students to celebrate some of the hardest working people in America with a much-deserved pay raise  gift cards, teacher's lounge brunches, and various apple-adorned knickknacks. And ahead of the summer break,  SNL  made a teacher or two (thousand) feel seen with their "Teacher PSA" sketch.

Watch Saturday Night Live  Saturdays at 11:30/10:30c on  NBC and next day on  Peacock .  

The sketch opened on three smiling teachers (Rudolph, Andrew Dismukes, and Heidi Gardner) standing in front of their school.

"I've learned so much from my students," one teacher began.

"But sometimes, the classroom can feel like a battlefield, and a war between teachers and kids," Dismukes' character continued.

Now, with summer approaching, the trio has a message for their students: "Y'all won." 

"Y'all rude, and y'all nasty," Rudolph's character said, rattling off strange slang terms and declaring that the students "speak in riddles."

"Look, COVID broke something we can't fix," she continued. "But as for me, myself personally, I have officially endured my last 'Skibidi Toilet.' I am retiring." (If you don't understand that Skibidi Toilet reference, consider yourself one lucky adult).

SNL 's "Teacher PSA" sketch got high marks from real teachers

Teachers played by Rudolph, Kenan Thompson, and Sarah Sherman went on to share horror stories, from being clowned for having a "funky neck" to winding up in an actual neck brace. 

But the true star of "Teacher PSA" may be the teacher played by Ego Nwodim, who knew how to harness the power of a one-word phrase: "SIT DOWN!" (spelled "TSIDDAHN," obviously). 

"I say this word about 628 times a day," she explained, before admitting there was liquor in her thermos. "For example, 'If y'all don't TSIDDAHN!'"

"From every teacher to those rude, sticky, illiterate children, we give up," Rudolph's character told the camera, as her fellow teachers gathered to deliver a final, "Y'all won."

After the episode, actual teachers shared their thoughts under SNL 's YouTube post of the sketch.

"This was shared in my 20-person coworker text group, and we collectively agree this is painfully accurate," one wrote, while another shared, "My wife works at a public school and she could not stop laughing at this."

"Every teacher knows how real this is," a commenter declared. To all the educators out there, we wish you a breezy end to your semester.

Starbucks offering half-off drinks on Fridays, more deals during month of May

Starbucks has some new deals to snag throughout May with the Summer App-y Days promotions.

Starting May 10 and every Friday during the month of May, Starbucks customers can get 50% off a standard handcrafted beverage from noon to 6 p.m. at participating stores. To get the deal, customers can look for it in their Starbucks app, a news release said.

The Friday deal has a one beverage per customer limit during the promotion. A handcrafted beverage at Starbucks includes any drink that is not hot tea or hot brewed coffee.

More summer deals

Staring May 13, Starbucks Rewards Members will see personalized offers in the app every Monday. Offers may include Triple Star Days, BOGO deals and drink discounts, the news release said. The deals will appear in the "offers" tab of the Starbucks app.

Also through the end of May, customers who download the Starbucks app and sign up by clicking on the "New Members Get 50% Off" link will receive 50% off a handcrafted drink of their choice anytime during their first week as a new member.

Starbucks  has been pushing its new summer drinks with 50% deals during the noon-to-6 p.m. time frame.

Some of the coffee chain's new offerings include:

• Summer-Berry: Starbucks describes the drink as "a sweet summer blend of raspberry, blueberry and blackberry flavors, shaken with ice and poured over raspberry-flavored pearls that deliver a delicate and deliciously sweet burst of summer fun." A grande drink has 110 calories, 25 grams of sugar and 0 grams of fat.
• Summer-Berry with Lemonade: Lemonade with raspberry, blueberry and blackberry flavors, shaken with ice and poured over raspberry-flavored pearls. Grande: 160 calories, 37g sugar, 0g fat.
• Summer Skies Drink: Those berry flavors mixed with coconut milk, shaken with ice served on raspberry-flavored pearls. Grande: 150 calories, 29g sugar, 2.5g fat.
• White Chocolate Macadamia Cold Brew: is made with sweet macadamia syrup and topped with white chocolate macadamia cream cold foam and toasted cookie crumbles.

If you need help with retroarch

First, put your rom into the files of retroarch (personally, i have my own folder dedicated to roms) then import your rom using "import content" if your rom is a rom hack, you might not be able to import it (i said might because retroarch sometimes detects very popular rom hacks) instead, choose load content and then select the rom, and it will appear in your history. if a rom crashes when loading, you probably need the bios file for it! search something along the lines of "beetle saturn retroarch core" and there should be a libretro site with the core's information, scroll down and you will see the name of the bios file for the core, (you should only need the bios files that aren't optional) then you can look up the name of the bios file and find it online. (probably on internet archive) anyways, retroarch is a great emulator and ive been using lakka on my nintendo switch too! easily a game changer and beats delta!

The best emulation experience!

I have been using RetroArch since it was available on the PS Vita, and have used it on countless devices since then. RetroArch is EASILY the most configurable emulation front-end there is. There are so many options when it comes to themes, controller customization, shaders and filters, save games, retro achievements, and so much more! A must-have app for any emulation enthusiast.

I’ve got achievements, I’m happy

Personally I think this is quite a rough implementation compared to the Delta emulator that released a few weeks ago, but it otherwise plays games just as well as Delta if not better in some cases. RetroArch isn’t as pretty and isn’t integrated as well with iOS devices, with my biggest gripe being that I can’t add games from my iCloud drive into playlists, and have to sift through my files to open games. While Delta’s a bit easier to use, Retroarch offers more settings and a much wider variety of systems to emulate, so if you want to play N64, Sega, or arcade games on your phone you’ve come to the right place. Personally, the big draw for me is support for RetroAchievements, which allows you to unlock community-made achievements as you play. This will definitely be my emulator of choice for the foreseeable future, though I’d be really happy to see some quality-of-life improvements down the line.
