creative writing of best friend

As I sit here, reminiscing about all the incredible moments we’ve shared together, I can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia wash over me. There’s a void in my heart and a longing in my soul because you are not here by my side. I miss you so much, my dear friend.

Life has taken us on different paths, and although distance may separate us physically, know that you are always close to my heart. The memories we’ve created together are etched deep within me, and they bring a smile to my face even in your absence.

There are moments when I find myself laughing at an inside joke only we understand or wishing you were here to share in the triumphs and challenges of life. Your presence has always brought comfort, understanding, and a sense of belonging. Your friendship is a treasure I hold dear.

I miss our late-night conversations filled with laughter and tears, our adventures that were full of surprises, and the way we could communicate without uttering a single word. You have a way of making every moment memorable, and it’s in those moments that I realize how truly blessed I am to have you as my best friend.

Distance may separate us physically, but our bond is unbreakable. Time and space cannot diminish the connection we share. As I navigate through life’s ups and downs, I carry your love, support, and friendship with me always.

Know that you are missed in every way possible. The laughter is not as contagious, the adventures not as thrilling, and the experiences not as meaningful without you by my side. But I find solace in knowing that our friendship transcends distance and that we will reunite again, creating new memories and reigniting the spark that makes our bond so special.

Until we meet again, my dear friend, please know that you are always in my thoughts and in my heart. Our friendship is a source of strength and inspiration, and I eagerly await the day we can be together again, laughing, adventuring, and simply being the best of friends.

Sending you all my love, warmest hugs, and heartfelt wishes. Stay true to yourself, keep shining your light, and remember that I am here for you, no matter the distance. Until then, cherish our memories, and know that I miss you more than words can express.

From the moment we crossed paths, I knew that our connection was extraordinary. You’ve seen me at my best and my worst, and yet you’ve loved me unconditionally. Your presence in my life has brought me immeasurable joy, comfort, and a sense of belonging.

You have an incredible ability to understand me, even when I struggle to understand myself. Your support and encouragement have been the driving force behind my dreams and aspirations. You’ve stood by my side through thick and thin, celebrating my victories and lending a shoulder to lean on during my defeats.

Every shared laughter, every heartfelt conversation, and every adventure we embark upon, I am reminded of the depth of our friendship. Your friendship has brought warmth and light to my world, and I am forever grateful.

In your presence, I feel safe and accepted. You see the real me—the flaws, the quirks, and the vulnerabilities—and you love me all the more for it. Your love has taught me the true meaning of acceptance, and for that, I am eternally thankful.

You inspire me to be a better person. Your kindness, compassion, and selflessness have shown me the power of love and the impact we can make in the lives of others. You lead by example, and I strive to emulate the qualities that make you so extraordinary.

I cherish the memories we’ve created together—the late-night conversations, the adventures that pushed us out of our comfort zones, and the moments of pure laughter and joy. Each memory is a testament to the depth of our bond and a reminder of how blessed I am to have you as my best friend.

No matter where life takes us, I want you to know that my love for you will always remain unwavering. You are a rare gem in this vast universe, and I am forever grateful for the privilege of calling you my best friend.

Thank you for being the person who understands me, who supports me, and who loves me unconditionally. Our journey together is filled with endless possibilities, and I am excited to see what the future holds for us.

Writing a paragraph about your best friend can be a heartfelt tribute, an opportunity to celebrate the unique qualities that make them an irreplaceable presence in your life.

Table of Contents

Tips On Writing A Paragraph On My Best Friend

Introduce your best friend: Start by introducing your best friend and providing some basic information about them, such as their name and how long you’ve known each other. For example, “My best friend, Sarah, has been by my side for over a decade, and our friendship has only grown stronger with time.”

Highlight their qualities and characteristics: Describe the qualities and characteristics that make your best friend special. Focus on their positive traits, such as their kindness, loyalty, sense of humor, or empathy. Provide examples or anecdotes to illustrate these qualities. For instance, “Sarah is the epitome of kindness, always going out of her way to help others. I remember when she spent hours organizing a surprise birthday party for me, ensuring every detail was perfect.”

Share memorable experiences: Recall some memorable experiences or adventures you’ve shared with your best friend. Describe the fun, laughter, or meaningful moments you’ve experienced together. This helps to showcase the bond and connection you have. For example, “From road trips to late-night conversations, Sarah and I have shared countless adventures. One of my favorite memories is when we hiked to the top of a mountain and watched the sunrise, celebrating the beauty of nature and our friendship.”

Express gratitude and appreciation: Take a moment to express your gratitude and appreciation for your best friend. Share how they have positively impacted your life and why they are important to you. This adds depth and emotion to your paragraph. For instance, “I am incredibly grateful to have Sarah in my life. Her unwavering support and belief in me have given me the strength to overcome challenges and pursue my dreams. I am forever thankful for her presence.”

Conclude with a reflection: Wrap up your paragraph by reflecting on the significance of your best friend in your life. Summarize the qualities, experiences, and emotions you’ve mentioned and state what makes them truly special. This leaves a lasting impression on the reader. For example, “In conclusion, Sarah is not just my best friend; she is my confidant, my cheerleader, and my partner in crime. Her genuine care, infectious laughter, and unwavering support make her an irreplaceable presence in my life.”

Paragraph 1

My best friend, Emily, is the epitome of warmth and compassion. From the moment we first met, her genuine smile and kind heart drew me in. Whether it’s lending a listening ear during tough times or celebrating the joys of life together, Emily’s unwavering support has been a constant source of comfort. Her ability to empathize and offer sage advice never fails to amaze me. With Emily by my side, I know I have a friend for life who will always be there to brighten my days.

Paragraph 2

When I think of my best friend, Alex, the first word that comes to mind is “adventurous.” From spontaneous road trips to exploring new hobbies, Alex is always up for a thrilling experience. Their infectious enthusiasm and zest for life inspire me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace the unknown. With Alex, every day is an opportunity for an exciting adventure, and I’m grateful to have a friend who continually pushes me to embrace life to the fullest.

Sarah’s sense of humor is unmatched, and our countless inside jokes have created a bond that cannot be broken. With her by my side, life’s challenges seem more manageable, and every moment becomes an opportunity for shared laughter and happiness.

His unwavering loyalty and honesty have been the foundation of our friendship. I know I can always count on Michael to speak the truth, even when it’s difficult. His ability to be authentic and vulnerable has created a safe space where we can share our deepest fears and dreams without judgment. Having Michael as my best friend is a true gift.

He faces challenges head-on with a tenacity that is truly remarkable. Jason’s ability to overcome obstacles and rise above adversity has taught me the importance of perseverance and has inspired me to push through my own struggles. How To Write a My Best Friend Essay

' data-src=

Definition: What Is a My Best Friend Essay?

Write about what you know is sage advice often given to fledgling writers. And what do many of our young students know more about than their trusty sidekick, who is a constant presence through thick and thin?

A My Best Friend Essay is precisely what it sounds like; an essay the student writes that is focused on their closest pal’s endearing attributes (and otherwise).

However, the My Best Friend Essay is more than just a chance for students to wax lyrical about their BFFs. It is an authentic opportunity for students to hone their composition skills and exercise their creative flair.

All this while talking about one of their best mate – not bad!

Visual Writing

STRUCTURING a My Best Friend Essay

This is an essay. It says so right there in the title! Just how complex the structure of a student’s essay is will depend on essential factors such as age and ability. However, the 5-paragraph essay structure is a perfect framework for this type of composition.

One of the most beautiful aspects of the 5-paragraph essay is that it is easily modified to differentiate between lower or higher ability students by simply adjusting the number of paragraphs. The essay will still contain the same essential elements of an introduction, a body, and a conclusion, regardless of how long it is.

The 5-paragraph (or hamburger) essay is a craft in itself and much too broad a topic to go into at length. Check out our complete guide here if you want more detail on this handy essay template.

Briefly though, in essence, the 5-paragraph essay comprises three parts:

  • The Introduction : The opening paragraph will orient the reader to the topic of the essay, in this case, by introducing the show’s star, the best friend .
  • The Body : In the traditional 5-paragraph essay, this makes up three of the five paragraphs. In this type of essay, the student will use these paragraphs to flesh out the main reasons they value their friend, or (at a more advanced level) they will tell a story about them that illustrates why they are the student’s best friend.
  • The Conclusion : In the conclusion, the student can sum up why their friend holds the hallowed title of ‘best’. Or, at a higher level, the student can use the final paragraph of their essay to look forward to the future of their relationship with their best friend.

Our FUN DAILY QUICK WRITE TASKS will teach your students the fundamentals of CREATIVE WRITING across all text types. Packed with 52 ENGAGING ACTIVITIES

My Best Friend Essay Story

While we are teaching a short essay on my best friend’, it can also be approached from another angle, i.e., as a nonfiction story.

While the clearcut essay format may be eminently suitable for younger students, you may wish to revisit this genre with older students, this time emphasising storytelling.

In this creative nonfiction approach, students can merge the essay format with storytelling elements such as character, setting, central conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.

Constructing their best friend composition in this manner allows students to work on structuring a nonfiction text. Simultaneously, it offers them a chance to develop their creative flair.

My Best Friend in 10 Lines

Another approach particularly well-suited to younger students is the my best friend essay 10 lines format.

This helps younger students get writing by giving them a clear target to aim for, which makes planning easy.

However, you can still introduce the three elements of the 5-paragraph essay here. As students list the points they want to make in their 10 lines, they can be encouraged to group these into introduction, body, and conclusion sections.

For example, a plan might look like this:

A ‘My Best Friend in 10 Lines’ Plan

Introduction

Line 1: My friend’s name.

Line 2: What she looks like.

Line 3: Where she is from/her family.

Line 4: What friendship means to me.

Line 5: How we met.

Line 6: The kindest thing she has ever done.

Line 7: The funniest thing she has ever done.

Line 8: My absolute favorite thing about her.

Line 9: Restate why she is my best friend.

Line 10: How I see our future together.

To complete their 10-line ode to their friend, the student simply builds proper sentences around each of these (or similar) ideas.

More on Planning a My Best Friend Composition

As we can see in the sample plan above, the planning process is relatively straightforward when the 5-paragraph essay structure serves as a framework. However, we may want to take things up a notch for students of a higher ability.

A good, old-fashioned brainstorming session is an excellent starting point for the student. They can list their favorite memories and their friend’s best features.

While younger students may inevitably write something of a hagiography (a biography of a saint!), older students may want to present a more realistic portrait of their ever-present amigo.

Likewise, if the student is undertaking their composition in a narrative nonfiction form, they’ll need to map out the narrative arc of their story at the planning stage.

As with any story, the conflict will serve as the engine of the narrative. However, this conflict does not have to take the form of a problem between the writer and the best friend. After all, this text is more likely to be something of a love letter than a letter of complaint. Instead, the conflict is more likely to take the form of a problem or a challenge faced by the writer and their pal together.

Whether or not the student’s text will take a full-blown story form, true-to-life anecdotes will bring life to the student’s writing. The planning process is the perfect time to dump these onto paper, even if they don’t all make it into the final draft.

How to Start a MY Best Friend Essay

As with most text types, fiction or nonfiction, the writer will want to grab the reader’s attention from the outset. An effective way of doing this is by using a hook.

How to Hook The Reader

The student writer has many methods available to grasp the reader’s attention. While some of these will only be suitable for more advanced students, most can be adapted with a bit of effort for our younger writers.

  • Start in the Middle of the Action

Technically known as, In Medias Res , this technique involves opening the story in the middle of a moment of dramatic tension with the exposition filled in later. This type of wizardry is probably best reserved for the more skilled student writer.

  • Make a Bold Promise at the Outset

The promise of a big payoff can undoubtedly catch a reader’s eye and draw them in, but the student-writer must follow through later in the text. For less experienced students, you may want to offer a writing prompt to help out here. For example,

My best friend Jack is truly one of a kind, but just how special he is wasn’t clear to me until the day a fire broke out in our school.

Students can quickly adapt such prompts by changing the event mentioned to their own circumstances.

  • Create a Sense of Intimacy

Another way to grasp the reader’s interest is to create a sense of intimacy right from the start. This can be achieved by addressing the reader directly in a conversational tone. Students should use informal language and approach writing their text as if they were speaking to a close friend – this is perfect for this writing style.

  • Open with an Anecdote

Another way to create interest (and a sense of intimacy) is to open up with an interesting anecdote about the friend. Students can select an interesting or humorous story to use as a carrot to entice the reader in. The student could substitute an exciting or amusing fact in shorter pieces for a full-blown anecdote.

  • Begin with a Quotation

Quotes are a great way to garner attention. There are many online repositories of inspirational quotes on every topic under the sun where students can find a golden nugget of friendship-based wisdom to open their masterpieces. They must simply type in keywords such as ‘famous’, ‘quotes’, and ‘friendship’ to uncover a smorgasbord of well-articulated wisdom for students to choose from. However, students should ensure the sentiment expressed in their selected quote ties into the type of friendship described in their work.

Working the Body

As we stated earlier in this article, the 5-paragraph essay structure, or the narrative writing arc, lays out a suitable template for the student-writer to work their way through the body of their text. However, it’s worth pointing out five areas where a little attention can significantly impact.

  • Get Specific

The devil’s in the details. The more specific the student is in their writing, the more effectively they will communicate with the reader.

Encourage students to be as precise as possible in their descriptions. A thesaurus is an excellent tool to help students find just the right word for the job.

  • Vary Sentence Length

Often, emergent writers rely on the same couple of simple sentence structures in their writing. This soon makes the writing monotonous for the reader; if they continue to read, it is only with effort that they will finish the student’s work.

Variety is not only the spice of life but also the spice of good writing. Encourage students to vary their sentence structures and alternate between long and short sentences to diversify the rhythm of their writing and evoke interest on the reader’s part.

  • Use Dialogue

Weaving dialogue into a my best friend essay text is a great way to bring colour and variety to a student’s writing. It also allows the student to practice punctuating dialogue – an essential skill!

Students will need to learn to listen carefully if they are to be able to write how people actually speak. Encouraging them to read their dialogue aloud is an effective way to check if it rings true.

  • Incorporate Literary Devices

Though this is undoubtedly a nonfiction text, it has firm roots in creative writing too. Students should incorporate some of the literary techniques and devices that we’d more commonly associate with poetry and fiction writing to add colour, creativity, and imagination to their writing.

For example, for younger students, physical descriptions of their BFF provide the perfect opportunity to introduce similes and hyperbole. Don’t be afraid to get comical here; writing should be fun, after all.

Does their friend have a big nose? How big? As big as an elephant’s trunk, perhaps?

Just make sure students avoid being too mean or poking fun at areas too sensitive for their friends.

It is easy to differentiate different abilities by challenging stronger students to use more complex literary devices in their work. Zoomorphism anyone?

  • Evoke the Five Senses

Emergent writers often display a bias towards only using the sense of sight in their descriptions. To bring their writing up a notch, encourage your students to employ all five senses in their writing.

By evoking the sense of hearing, smell, taste, and touch in their work, students will help their writing to come alive in the reader’s imagination.

WRAPPING THINGS Up

In a regular 5-paragraph essay, the concluding paragraph is usually the time to summarize the main arguments and drive home the thesis statement one more time. Obviously, things are a little bit different in a “my best friend essay.”

Of course, students can take the opportunity to revisit and restate the main reasons why their best friend holds the best-friend-championship belt. Still, there is a more artistic way to use their composition’s final paragraph.

Ask students to think about their friendship and where they see it in five, ten, twenty, or even forty years.

Undoubtedly, for younger students, in particular, this may be a bit of a challenge, but it can be a fun thought experiment too. Students can pose themselves questions to help, such as:

  • Will we be neighbours?
  • Will we work together?
  • Will our children go to school together? Etc.

Taking a tentative step into the possibilities of the future can make for an impactful ending.

If you’re writing an essay and want to put your best friend in the spotlight, check out these essay examples on essays about best friends.

Best friends are those with whom we have formed a deep and unique bond. What makes them remarkably special is that we chose them unlike with family. For this, some even consider their best friends to be extensions of themselves.

We all trust our best friends wholeheartedly; that’s why they are the best people to confide in. And many of the lasting memories in our lives are those that we create with them. These memories could be filled with waves of boisterous laughter or even the most piercing pain when your friendship is tested.

Read on and find essay examples and prompts that could motivate you to write about best friends.

5 Essay Examples

1. how friendships change in adulthood by julie beck, 2. diamonds are not this girl’s best friend by courtney carver, 3. how to tell your best friend you’re in love with them – by those who have taken the plunge by sirin kale, 4. my best friend died: a real-life guide to coping by gabrielle applebury, 5. is it normal to not have a best friend by viktor sander, 7 helpful writing prompts on essays about best friends, 1. describe your best friend, 2. hanging out with your best friend , 3. long distance friendship, 4. cutting off toxic best friends, 5. falling in love with your best friend, 6. famous literary friendships, 7. a dog is a man’s best friend.

“Hanging out with a set of lifelong best friends can be annoying, because the years of inside jokes and references often make their communication unintelligible to outsiders. But this sort of shared language is part of what makes friendships last.”

The above essay delves into the evolution of friendship throughout the different stages of our lives, from childhood and teen years to family life and retirement. While we have all deferred a meetup with friends several times to attend to family and work, many people still treat their friendship as stable and continuous, even in long lapses in communication.

You might also find these essays about camping trips helpful.

“My best friend is a magical, rooftop sunrise. My best friend is the ocean. My best friend is a hike in the mountains. My best friend is a peaceful afternoon. My best friend is a really good book. My best friend is laughter. My best friend is seeing the world. My best friend is time with people I love.”

This essay takes on a broader definition of a “best friend,” deriving from Marilyn Monroe’s famous quote: “Diamond are a girl’s best friend.” From having excessive material wants for every occasion, the author realizes that the greatest “friends” in life are not material things but the simple joys that nature and love can bring.

“It was supposed to go the way things do in the movies. Nora would tell her best friend that she loved him, he would feel the same way and then they would kiss – preferably in the rain. So when the 30-year-old arts manager declared her love for her best friend when they were still teenagers, she expected a happy ending.”

The essay by Srirn Kale treats its readers to compelling stories of best friends ending up in marriage and those parting ways because of unrequited love. But, before taking the bold step of declaring your love for your best friend, a relationship guru advises lovers first to read the signs that signal any reciprocity of these deep feelings.

“Losing a best friend may be one of the most difficult and heartbreaking experiences you have in your lifetime. If you aren’t sure how to process that your best friend died, know that there are many healthy options when it comes to coping with this type of loss.”

Coping with losing a best friend could lead to depression or even suicidal thoughts, especially if your best friend means the world to you. Some coping tips include journaling your grieving process to understand your emotions and confusion better and doing things that can relive your best friend’s memories.

“If you are happy with the friends you currently have, there’s no need to try making a best friend for the sake of it. You might have friends but no best friend; that’s perfectly OK. It’s not necessary to have a BFF.”

Not everyone has a best friend. Some would find this fact hard to believe, but a YouGov survey has shown that 1 in 5 of the US population claims to have no close friends. The essay, therefore, explores the reasons for this friendlessness and gives tips on building a bond with potential best friends, starting with your existing circle of acquaintances.

Essays About Best Friends: Describe your best friend

Begin this essay by describing what your best friend looks like and what traits you like most about them. Then, given these qualities, would you consider your best friend a role model? Your essay can also answer how similar you and your best friend are and what things you both agree on. But if you have more differences than similarities, write how you deal with them or put them aside.

In this essay, describe your favorite ways to hang out with your best friend. What do you like doing together? Describe what a day spent with your best friend looks like and which part you like most about your dates. If your conversations draw your mutual admiration for each other, then talk about what topics make you talk for hours on end and their perspectives on things that you find fascinating.

Do different time zones make friends grow apart? Or does distance make the heart grow fonder? First, interview two to three people whose best friends moved to a different country or city. Next, learn how frequently they communicate with each other. Finally, compile these stories and make a smooth transition to each one such that the structure highlights the challenges of long-distance friendships and how each set of friends gets by.

Discarding best friends is a hard decision. But it is also brave if you feel they are dragging you down. For this prompt, you can pose a list of questions readers can ask themselves to grasp the situation better. For example, is your friend doing you more harm than good? Have you set boundaries that they find hard to respect? Then, explain how reflecting on each question can help one determine when it is time to cut some ties loose.

Falling in love with your best friend can only end in two scenarios: a happy ever after or an end of a beautiful relationship. Expanding on our essay prompt above, list down more tips to know when it is best to confront your best friend about your feelings or work hard to quash your emotions for the continuity of the relationship.

Pick out best friends from novels that formed friendships that touched you the most. They could be Harry, Ron, Hermoine of Harry Potter, Frodo, Sam of the Lord Of The Rings, or even Sherlock and Watson From The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes. First, describe what it is in their friendship that you find most riveting. Then, narrate events that served as the biggest tests to their friendships and how they conquered these challenges.

What about dogs that some people find more lovable than others? Answer this in your essay by outlining the traits that make a dog the ideal best friend. For one, their loyalty makes us confident that they will not betray us. If you have a dog, write about the qualities that make your dog a reliable and fun companion. Then, narrate events when your dog proved to be your best friend.

How to Write a Letter to Your Best Friend

Are you the bestest friend in the whole wide world? With International friendship day coming up (July 30th), it’s time to show your friends how much they mean to you. And what better way to show your appreciation, than learning how to write a letter to your best friend. Whether you have known them for years or just months, a letter can help express your feelings and sincerely show them how much you care for them.

The best thing about sending letters is that your friend can keep these as mementoes of your friendship. So, years down the line, they can look back at these letters and remember the friendship they had with you and the good old times. While writing letters is a good way to show your appreciation, it can be very difficult to put down in words your feelings. In this post, we’ll show you how to write a letter to your best friend, along with 15+ letter prompts for your best friend.

For more inspiration check out our post on 56+ write prompts about friendship .

How to Write a Letter To Your Best Friend

Step 1: write down some ideas.

Before you begin writing your letter you need to plan it out. During this planning phase, you should think about some questions to ask your friend. You might think about any future plans with them, what you like about them and how they are feeling. Use scrap paper to plan out your letter ideas and structure.

When you’re staring at a blank page it can be difficult to think of the right words to say to your best friend and how to put your feelings down on paper. To help you out, here are over 15 letter prompts for your best friend :

  •  A recent joke you or they played on you.
  • The first time you both met.
  • Your favourite memory together.
  • A song your friend loves listening to.
  • A secret that only you know about them.
  • A celebrity or real-life crush your friend has.
  • Think about a hard time you both went through.
  • Has there been a big change in your life recently?
  • A dream you had involving your best friend.
  • How much you miss them when they’re gone.
  • Something they always say, like a catchphrase or a word.
  • Their favourite food, colour, items, TV shows and so on.
  • What about their dreams, goals and ambitions in life?
  • Make a plan to meet up soon somewhere.
  • Do you have any exciting or sad news to share?
  • Something new you discovered or learned.
  • Ask about their family and how they are doing.

Once you have thought about the various things to include in your letter, you can roughly write an outline of your letter on scrap paper. In your outline, you could include some questions to ask, details about yourself you want to include and any other special words or catchphrases you want to include.

Step 2: Choose your stationery

Use some cool stationery to make your letter more special. By stationary, we mean the paper your letter will be written on, an envelope and writing pens. Will you use colourful gel pens or a smart fountain pen? What about your letter paper? Does a floral design suit your best friend or a more anime, cartoon-style writing paper? The key to choosing good stationery is to know your best friend. Whatever their interests are try to include them in the stationary choice.

creative writing of best friend

If your choice of writing paper has no lines, you should put a lined paper under your unlined paper. This will ensure that your sentences appear straight on the unlined page and do not wobble all over the page.

Step 3: Start with a greeting

Start by writing down a greeting to your friend. In formal letters, the greeting starts with “Dear”. However, since this is a letter to your best friend, you want to be less formal and more friendly. For this reason, you might want to start your letter with the following greetings:

  • Hello There

Another tip with the greeting is that instead of including your best friend’s name, you could include a nickname or something you always call them. For example, you might call your best friend Tweety or Cutie, even though their real first name might be Laura or Katie. This is a great way to add a personal touch to your letter.

Step 4: Write the body of the letter

Write the body of your letter. This is the scary part. The part where everyone struggles. To make this step easier, it’s very important that you follow step one, to plan out your letter on a separate scrap paper.

The body of your letter can be as short or as long as you like. Sometimes you might have a lot to say and might end up writing two or three pages in your letter. Other times, a short paragraph or two will be enough to show your appreciation. Look back at step one above for some interesting ideas of things to include in your body.

Here are a couple of tips on how to make the body of the letter more personal:

  •  Include personal catchphrases or inside jokes in your body.
  • Use your best friend’s name or nickname lightly across the letter.
  • Use words like, ‘You’, ‘Your’ and ‘Remember’.
  • Add in emojis – Even if you have to draw them 🙂
  • Don’t be afraid of using “text speak”, slang words or abbreviating long words.

Step 5: Adding the closing lines

Close your letter off nicely. This is your best friend, don’t leave them hanging. Tell them how much you missed them if you haven’t seen them in a while. Ask them if they want to meet up someplace or talk over the phone. You should also tell them that you look forward to talking to them soon or catching up.

After writing your closing lines. It’s time to sign your letter off. With a formal letter, you might use, “Yours Sincerely” or “Kind Regards”. But with a letter to your best friend you should end more informally. Here are some ideas for signing off your letter:

  • Your Bestest Friend
  • See you soon

If you forgot to mention something in the body of the letter, you can use “P.S” after signing your letter off. This gives you a chance to write a quick message at the bottom of the letter.

Step 6: Decorate your letter

Decorate your letter with anything you like. When decorating your letter think about your best friend’s personality, interests and occasion. Use stickers, stamps, draw doodles and add sparkles or glitter. Make your letter look fun and interesting. This way your best friend will be excited to read it. Don’t forget to decorate your envelope too!

Step 7: Add any attachments (Optional)

Include any photos or small items with your letter. This step is optional. You might want to include a photo of you and your best friend together at an event. Alternatively, you might want to give them a small item like a ring, sweets or something you made yourself like an origami fox . This will make your best friend feel even more special and appreciated.

Step 8: Put the letter into an envelope

Put your letter into an envelope. On the envelope clearly include your best friend’s address, a stamp and a return address. If you don’t plan on using a post office to post the letter, you can just include your best friend’s name on the front and give it to them personally.

How to Describe a Friend in a Story

By Isobel Coughlan

how to describe a friend in a story

If you need some inspiration to write a friendship between characters in your novel, scroll down to get some ideas on how to describe a friend in a story.

1. Lifelong

Something or someone that is there for the rest of a person’s life.

“Peppa the cat was Hannah’s lifelong friend. They did everything together, including sleeping, eating, and traveling.”

“George wished for at least one lifelong friend. He was sick of short-term friendships and fleeting acquaintances.”

How it Adds Description

A “lifelong” friend is someone who is there for your character’s entire life. This usually means the friends met when they were younger, and therefore, when a character refers to someone as a “lifelong” friend, it means they are very close to each other and often grew up in the same environment. “Lifelong” friends will also usually have lots of trust and will turn to each other in difficult times.

A friendship that’s the highest quality or closeness.

“My mom is my best friend! I love her to pieces and spend every evening with her.”

“You’re not my best friend. How could you be my closest friend if we hardly ever see each other?”

“Best” is a common term used to describe someone’s closest friend. If your character has a “best” friend, they likely see them regularly and enjoy their company. Sometimes, “best” friends are inseparable and have very similar personalities, which characters with casual friendships might think is strange.

Something that’s not very good.

“Emily couldn’t admit out loud that Heather was an awful friend, but everybody could see it in her facial expressions.”

“Robert knew he was being an awful friend when he screened Jake’s call for the third time. But he just couldn’t bring himself to answer.”

If a character is rude or nasty to someone, they could be considered an “awful” friend. An “awful” friend does everything that a good friend does not. For example, “awful” friends might lie to other characters, steal their belongings, and be an overall negative force in their lives. If a character has “awful” friends, they might feel lonely or unsupportive.

4. Non-Judgemental

Someone who has an open attitude and doesn’t make assumptions about others.

“When Michael saw his mates’ shocked reactions to his new haircut, he decided he needed to find non-judgemental friends.”

“Anya thanked the heavens her friends were so non-judgemental after she told them her deepest secrets.”

“Non-judgemental” shows that a friend is open and accepting. They don’t make assumptions or judge their friends on their behavior or thoughts. Instead, they’re tolerant and relaxed within their relationships. A character with “non-judgmental” friends is more likely to feel at ease being themself around others, as they know they can be free without facing criticism or pushback.

Someone who is bitter or angry because they want what someone else has.

“Ben’s friends were always jealous of his designer clothes, but he chose to ignore their cutting remarks.”

“Wilma knew she was being a jealous friend. However, she couldn’t help but envy her bestie’s new engagement ring.”

Sometimes, a character may treat their friends with spite or anger because they want their possessions or relationships. This makes them a “jealous” friend. If a character notices their friend is being “jealous,” they might try to have an open conversation with them. Alternatively, they might distance themselves from their friend due to their negative energy.

Someone who tells the truth and doesn’t deceive others.

“Whenever Declan needed genuine advice, he went to see his best friend — his Father. He could always trust his most honest friend for decent guidance.”

“Ellie feared her friends weren’t as honest as she thought when they told her she’d look great with neon green hair.”

An “honest” friend is one who gives truthful advice and doesn’t go behind your character’s back or try to deceive them in any way. Your character will likely seek an “honest” friend when they want useful guidance, even if they know the answer might not be what they want to hear.

7. Dependable

Someone who is consistently there to help others.

“Tanya knew her group of friends were dependable , but she was worried they’d turn their back on her after they found out about her arrest.”

“Quentin tried to be a dependable friend by never being late for days out and replying to texts on time.”

“Dependable” shows that your character’s friend is helpful and always there when needed. Friends that are “dependable” are likely to be your character’s closest mates, as it’s less common to depend on someone who you don’t know very well.

8. Laid-Back

Someone or something that’s very relaxed and calm.

“Chantelle was grateful for her laid-back friendships. Checking in with high-maintenance friends left her feeling exhausted.”

“Gustav knew his friendship with Tommy was laid-back , but he still worried when he hadn’t heard from him in weeks.”

Low-maintenance friendships that don’t require lots of work can be deemed “laid-back.” A character won’t need to jump through hoops to make a “laid-back” friend happy, leaving them with less stress and a better connection with the friend.

Someone who remains firm in their support or friendship .

“Though Elizabeth had committed fifteen crimes, her loyal friends stood up for her.”

“The king only surrounded himself with his most loyal friends.”

If a friend is “loyal,” they support the character through thick and thin. This may include supporting your character in situations where they’re not 100% in the right. A character will be grateful for their “loyal” friends and might reward them for their steadfast loyalty.

10. Inspiring

Something that’s exciting and makes you feel enthusiastic or interested.

“Callie was Sarah’s most inspiring friend. After a coffee together, Sarah always felt like improving her life.”

“None of my friends are inspiring . All they do is sit around and complain about the weather.”

An “inspiring” friend will make your character and everyone around them feel excited about the future and its possibilities. If a character is an “inspiring” friend, they will likely be very popular, as many people want to be friends with someone who exudes positive energy.

People say that friendships change after marriage. I don't see ours changing but rather growing. You will always be my best friend, and knowing you’ve found the love of your life fills me with joy.

22. Wishes for eternal happiness

It is your wedding day , and you should be nothing but happy on this momentous day. You deserve this day to be the happiest of your life – until tomorrow, and then the day after that, the day after that, and every day.

23. To the perfect bride

You aren't just the perfect bride; you are the perfect friend. I have no doubt that you and your new husband will be perfectly happy together, even through the ups and downs of life.

24. To the bride from her maid of honor

I have a feeling that the reason it is called “maid of honor” is because it is such an unbelievable honor to be standing by your side. It is the most incredible honor to be standing next to you on your special day.

Sometimes friends can't be near each other. Let her know you miss her with these sweet greetings.

25. I miss my ray of sunshine

You have always been the brightest part of my life. I miss seeing you and feeling your warmth of spirit. I can’t wait to see you again so you can shine some of your light on me.

26. Missing your kindness

What I have always admired most about you is your extraordinary capacity for kindness. I miss

sweet bestfriends letter to my best friend

the generosity I have always felt from my best friend. You have made me want to be a better person and a caring friend to you.

27. Staying close while apart

I miss you, but I am so glad we can stay close even when we're physically apart. Every text I get from you reminds me why you're my best friend.

Even though we don’t see each other as often as we once did, I know you, and I will always be as close as sisters.

28. I miss laughing with you

Do you remember how many times we laughed until we cried? Sometimes, I miss those days so much that I cry until I start laughing at the irony of it all. I hope we can relive some of those best-friend moments again soon!

29. Being apart is hard

I worry about who I am without you. I'm not as happy or as strong without my best friend. I have to draw on the strength you've given me throughout our friendship and count down the days until we can hang out again.

30. I miss you

It's almost as easy to miss you as love you. Being so far away from my best friend doesn't seem fair. Just know that even when we're not near each other, I remember all of the fun times we've shared, and I’m looking forward to having more in the future!

It's not that you want her to cry; it's just that sometimes your love for each other brings out big, tearful emotions.

31. To the person who doesn't realize her own worth

Why are you my best friend? That's not something I ever have to ask. You are smart, funny, loving, interesting, supportive, and all-around amazing.

You never put yourself first. You are there for me and everyone else who needs you. I thank my lucky stars every night that you are my best friend.

32. Unconditional love

The unconditional love for a best friend is so rare that most people can't believe it could be real. I know it is real because I feel unconditional love from you and for you. For the rest of my life, you will always be one of my favorite people.

33. You have never let me down

Throughout all the years that I have known you, you have never let me down. You have guided me, supported me, laughed, and cried with me. Being your best friend is the best thing that could have ever happened to me.

34. To everyone's friend

One of the best things about you is how everyone considers you a friend. I take pride in knowing that my best friend is so well-liked and highly regarded by everyone I know.

You touch the lives of the people you meet, which makes me honored to be your friend.

35. You make me a better person

Having you in my life makes me a better person. You give me the strength to face daily challenges. You give me permission to laugh when I need to and cry when I need that too. You are the source of much of my joy. Thank you.

15 Prompts for Talking and Writing About Friendship

Questions to help students reflect on the meaning of friendship in their lives

creative writing of best friend

By Natalie Proulx

Who are your closest friends? How much do you share with them? Do you actually like your friends? What have you learned from them?

Below, we’ve rounded up 15 questions we’ve asked students over the years all about friendship. You can use them as prompts for writing or discussion, inside the classroom or out. We hope they’ll inspire you to reflect on your friendships, consider how you can strengthen the ones you have, and motivate you to reach out and make new ones.

Each prompt includes an excerpt from a related New York Times article, essay or photo; a link to the related piece; and several questions to help you think deeply about it. Many of these questions are still open for comment from students 13 or older.

You can find even more ideas for teaching and learning about friendship in our related lesson plan: How Students Can Cultivate Meaningful Friendships Using The New York Times .

1. Who Are Your Friends?

Do you have a “best friend,” a few close friends or a large group of friends? What interests, experiences, passions and circumstances forge those relationships? What are some of your favorite memories or admirable characteristics you associate with your friends?

Use this Picture Prompt to talk or write about your most important friendships.

2. How Alike Are You and Your Friends?

Did you know there is science behind how we choose our friends? Research has shown that we tend to befriend people who are much like us in a wide array of characteristics, including age, race, religion, even our handgrip strength.

In this prompt , you’ll read more about the things that bond us, and then share what you and your friends have in common.

3. Do You Have Any Unlikely Friendships?

Though we tend to connect with people who are like us, sometimes friendship happens with someone we’d least expect. That was the case for Spencer Sleyon, a 22-year-old rapper and producer from East Harlem, and Rosalind Guttman, an 81-year-old woman living in a retirement community in Florida, who met playing the Words With Friends game.

Do you have any surprising friendships like this one?

4. How Much Do You Share With Your Friends?

Do you often express your innermost thoughts, feelings and struggles to those closest to you? Or do you tend to keep those things to yourself? Being vulnerable can be scary, but research shows it’s important for building connections with others.

Use this prompt to reflect on what it feels like to open up to your friends, and how you might try to do more of it.

5. Do You Have Satisfying Friendships?

Are internet friendships as fulfilling as in-person ones? In a guest essay, a writer argues that “The kind of presence required for deep friendship does not seem cultivated in many online interactions. Presence in friendship requires ‘being with’ and ‘doing for.’”

Do you agree? Can online “friends” be true friends? Share your opinion.

6. Do You Have Any Close Friends?

Do you prefer to have many casual friends or just a few close ones? What makes a person a “best” friend? Do you wish you had more close friendships? This prompt explores these questions and more, as well as shares expert advice for developing deeper friendships.

7. How Do You React When Your Friendships Change?

Have you ever become less close to a friend over time? Have you ever felt jealousy when your friend joined another friend group? Have you ever had a friendship just fizzle out? These kinds of changes happen all the time, but they can be difficult to navigate.

Tell us what you do when you feel a friendship start to shift.

8. Do Social Media and Smartphones Make Your Friendships Stronger?

creative writing of best friend

Does being able to stay constantly in touch with your friends via social media, texting and location sharing strengthen your friendships and make them easier to maintain? Or does it do the opposite? Weigh in with your experiences on this prompt .

9. Do You Like Your Friends?

It may sound like a strange question, but a 2016 study found that only about half of perceived friendships are mutual. That means you might not even like someone who thinks of you as a best friend. And vice versa.

Is this is true for any of your relationships?

10. How Often Do You Text Your Friends Just to Say ‘Hi’?

When was the last time you texted, called, emailed or messaged a friend just to say “hello”? Research suggests casual check-ins might mean more than we realize. Do you underestimate how much your friends would like hearing from you?

Read what experts have to say and then share your thoughts.

11. Is It Harder for Men and Boys to Make and Keep Friends?

American men appear to be stuck in a “friendship recession,” according to a recent survey. Less than half of men said they were truly satisfied with the number of friendships they had. The same study also found that men are less likely than women to seek emotional support from or share personal feelings with their friends.

Does this reflect your experience? Weigh in.

12. Do You Have Any Intergenerational Friendships?

“When applying to my job, I had no idea of the friendships I would be making with 70+ year old women. They teach me new things every day while I hear their life stories and things they have done,” Laura from Ellisville wrote in response to this prompt.

Do you have any friends who are significantly younger or older than you? What do you think we can gain from these kinds of intergenerational friendships? Tell us here.

13. Have You Ever Been Left Out?

Imagine it’s a Saturday. All your friends told you they were busy, so you’re sitting at home, alone, mindlessly scrolling through Instagram. But then you see a post that stops you in your tracks. It’s a picture of all of your friends hanging out together — without you. This is what happened to Hallie Reed in her first semester at college.

Has something like this ever happened to you? Use this prompt to talk or write about how it felt.

14. What Have Your Friends Taught You About Life?

“My friends taught me different perspectives on life.” “My friends have taught me to not care what other people think.” “My friends have taught me to be myself.”

These are just a few of the responses teenagers had to this prompt. What have your friends taught you?

15. Have You Ever Had a Significant Friendship End?

Few relationships are meant to last forever. In a guest essay, Lauren Mechling writes that “even bonds founded on that rare, deeply felt psychic connection between two people” are “bound to fray.”

Have you experienced this with someone with whom you were once very close? What happened? Share your story.

Students 13 and older in the United States and Britain, and 16 and older elsewhere, are invited to comment. All comments are moderated by the Learning Network staff, but please keep in mind that once your comment is accepted, it will be made public and may appear in print.

Free Creative Writing Prompts #5: Friendship

When you look back on various times of your life like elementary school, summer camp, and post-college some of the memories that stick out the most are the ones of your friends. It’s hard to forget the people that you let inside of your comfort zone no matter when they were a part of your life. I still remember my teammates when I played touch football at recess in 5th grade and the crazy people who danced and sung with me in the rain when a camping trip was cancelled. Not all of them were great friendships that stood the test of time, but back in the day there were no other people I would have liked to hang out with than my best buds.

These 20 free  creative writing prompts  deal with the situations, trials, and tribulations you had with those friendships. Some ended well, some ended poorly, and some are still going on for better or for worse :). Here we go!  1. Your best friend in the world calls you and tells you a secret that changes your friendship forever. Describe the conversation and the aftermath.

2. Detail the scene of the first time you told your friends you had a crush on somebody. Did they react negatively or poorly? Did their reaction affect how you handled yourself around this person?

3. The friend you are most disappointed that you had a falling out with knocks on your door. He or she comes in and you two sit down and talk about the old times and the new times. Write the conversation.

4. A woman or man you have been dating for the past few months says that she or he does not want to ever hang out with your friends ever again. How do you handle the situation?

5. The craziest experience you’ve ever shared with your friends. Go!

6. Look back in your life for a time when you had a bad breakup and you went to your friends for help. What happened?

7. You are asked to testify against a good friend of yours in a court case. Your friend is being tried for murder. You know full well that he committed it. What do you do?

8. What was it like the first time you introduced one of your high school friends to your college friends and versa?

9. Remember a time where two of your friends began to date. If this didn’t happen, make up a story in which it did. How does it play out?

10. Your first major fight with a friend. The lead-up and the aftermath.

11. Your last major fight with your best friend. The lead-up and the aftermath.

12. Your friend is dating a horrible, horrible person. How do you deal with it? If this situation has happened in your life, feel free to draw from that.

13. You are lab partners with your friend in a science class. She is doing absolutely no work and she’s bringing your grade down. How do you approach her about it?

14. During a drunken party, you and a friend made-out, fooled around or had sexual intercourse. Describe the encounter and the following day. Once again, if this has actually happened, use it.

15. A friend has borrowed a large sum of money from you and has yet to repay it. How do you approach the situation?

16. You come over to the house of some friends and realize you have walked straight into an intervention! What is the intervention about and how would you honestly react? Don’t make this your ideal nice person reaction, be truthful.

17. A body has been found and the dental records show it is your best friend. The parents have asked you to go and identify the body. Describe the experience.

18. Look in your life for a time that you and a good friend were roommates. How did this situation turn out? Beginning, middle and end.

19. Your best friend calls you while crying up a storm. How do you comfort your friend and what is it probably about?

20. Describe meeting your best friend in the world.

Feel free to create your own prompts based off of these. I realized while I was putting them together that there are so many ways you can go with friendship. I may create a second batch at some point.

As always, be as honest as possible while writing these prompts. Do not worry about the emotions they bring up because you can always relax them out and once again become happy and healthy. Also, feel free to share these with a friend after you write them. If you truly write from the heart, there’s a good chance he or she will be proud of you, like a good friend should be.

Table of Contents

My Best Friend Essay 100 Words

I always thank God that he sent Rahul into my life as my best friend, and I also wish that everyone has a friend like Rahul. Rahul and I met on the first day of school after the summer vacation when we were studying in the 5th standard.

I also remember an incident when our class teacher asked him about his previous school and the place from where he came. He is a good speaker, and he gave an interesting answer to everyone in his introduction in class.

He is good at studies and also a good athlete. He loves running and singing too, and his handwriting is also very neat and clean. I feel happy to become his friend, and he also loves my company, and we spend most of our time together.

My Best Friend Essay 200 Words

I have had a lot of friends since childhood, but Raghav is one of the kindest and most trustworthy friends for me. I must say that Rohan has been my best friend since childhood. He is a very good person and a true friend because he has a good manner that he never lies to anyone, and hates people who lie to him. He is a kind boy and also a sincere student. We both live in the same building, and our apartments are also in front of each other.

My parents also met my friend in the school at the parents-teachers meeting, and they also like Raghav and his sincerity. We both have been in the same class from the 3rd standard until now. We are in the 10th standard now, and we both help each other in the preparation for Board exams, which will be held in the month of March.

He always invites me to his house to play video games with him. Every Sunday, we both enjoy playing video games with popcorn and juice together. Sometimes, our school teachers also wonder about our true friendship and the strong bond between us. He has a set of badminton rackets and a shuttle, and we also play together in the evening near our building. We both love each other’s company.

My Best Friend Essay 300 Words

Everyone has at least a single friend who is more than just a friend to them. Getting a friend is common, but getting a true friend is very rare and a bit special. It is like a big achievement for people to get a trustworthy and lifelong best friend. I also had a best friend in my life too since childhood. His name is Ganaraj, and his mother is Telugu. We are neighbors too and also classmates. We always sit together in school and also spend most of the time together.

He is a very talented person and always supports me in my studies. We both like mathematics, and also we love to solve maths numerical problems. I like to play games, and we both always play games together and participate in the sports that are held in school. Our favorite sport is Cricket, and we both are good all-rounders on our school cricket team. Our class teacher always suggests and supports us to play cricket even better and also helps in education to achieve success in life.

He is very valuable to me, and I always value his friendship as I value my parents. He is like my family, as a brother from another mother. Whenever I need his help and support, my best friend is there for me to hold me. We both live in the precious moment and create memories that will stay with me forever. Our friendship is a kind of beautiful relationship, and I hope any kind will never break these mistakes. Every Sunday, we go together to a playground near our locality, and we spend most of our time there. My parents also like Ganaraj to be my friend. Everyone is happy with our friendship and has a strong bond that never goes down in any situation.

My Best Friend Essay 500 Words

My best friend’s name is Siddhart Jadhav. We have been friends since class 7th A in Alfred Nobel High School. We both studied in the same school in childhood but not in the same class as our sections are different. Later that time, all the students from all the sections are sorted according to the previous academics’ percentages and grades and separated into four different sections. Due to this separation, I met Siddhart in the 7th A, and we became friends at that time. Later, time goes by, and our friendship bond becomes stronger, and we become best friends with each other and spend most of our time together in school, tuition, and extra classes. We also sit on the same bench in the classroom.

Our likes and dislikes are also common, and we also love to dance and sing. In every annual gathering and other function that is held in our school, we both participate and give our best performances. We never wanted to win the competitions, our intention was to enjoy the gathering. Some of our school teachers don’t like our togetherness and friendship, but some of them loved and always blessed our strong bonded friendship to stay longer and longer. Siddharth and I always talked in the running classroom, and most of the time, our teacher also punished both of us by standing outside the classroom. We always tried to irritate the lecturer in the chemistry lectures by asking tons of doubts and questions. We eat tiffin boxes sitting on the last benches.

Apart from this naughtiness, Siddharth is very punctual, and he is never late for coming to school and attending classes. He always completes his homework at a given time and being with him, I also start studying very well and completing my homework on time. He keeps his books and copies very clean. His writing is very nice and encourages me to write cleanly and clearly for better understanding. My parents also compliment my friend that being with him, I also become responsible and a good student.

Siddharth and I are both excellent football players and athletes. When we both start playing the football game, the opponent team never wins. Our sports teacher always motivates us and tells us that we will become good football players one day. My parents also know Siddharth very much, and they like his pleasant behavior. Feel free when Siddharth and I stay together, whether for playing games, video games, study, or for going out to have fun with other classmates. Siddharth is my best friend, my first friend. He is the one who offers me help in my studies when I need it, supports me and always shows love to me, defends me, and stands by my side in any situation no matter what.

In academics, my best friend, Siddharth, is chosen to be awarded the best student of the year in the 10th class. He is one of the brilliant students of our school and also won many of the competitions that were held in school. He is like a well-wisher, and I always enjoyed his company. He, too, feels secure and relieved by spending time with me as well. He is like a problem-solving friend to me. I never wanted to lose him in my life.

Creative Writing: My Best Friend Essay

My best friend is Jermichael from elementary school. We have been best friends from childhood and still continue today. He is a smart and nice looking boy with dark fair skin and deep dimples. He is a handsome boy, who I have come to adore. I remember we met in kindergarten and became friends after that. He is helpful, entertaining and fun to be around. Jermichael understands me better than anyone else in all my good and bad situations. We attended every class together until high school and played at each other’s house every day after school. He encourages me to do my best in the classroom and tests. Jermichael and I share personal thoughts in difficult times, but manage to smile through every good. We are always together no matter where we are. We like to shop, ride four wheelers and go fishing together down by the lake. It’s hard to find good people in the world, but he is an amazing person and I wouldn’t know what to do if he wasn’t a part of my life. We share most of the same jokes that nobody would dare to understand unless they knew me and him. He’s the kind of person that I could never tell a lie to. Even, if I fixed my mouth to lie to him, he knows me so well. Jermichael can tell if I’m telling a lie even if I have a straight face. We think so alike and it’s like we’re communicating without saying a word. At the same time, we’re always thinking the same thing or have the same ideas. One day, I went to school and forgot to ask my mom for lunch money. At first, I
