Why Summer School?

Edison High School has a long tradition of excellent instruction and student success. Our Middle School Summer Program (Summer Program) puts the same proven practices to work. Our goal is to help middle school students with learning differences reach their full potential. Over the long summer vacation, these students can lose the skills they were developing just as the school year ended. Our Summer Program helps maintain academic momentum, giving kids a "running start" into the next school year. We receive overwhelming positive feedback about the Summer Program from parents and students year after year, noting that it consistently produces students who are happier and more successful entering school in the fall.

Who Does the Program Serve?

The program is open to any student with learning differences or who struggles in school entering 6th–9th grade the following fall.

  • ART IN NATURE - Week 1: June 26-30
  • MAKING THE WORLD BETTER - Week 2: July 3-7 (Four day week)
  • ENGINEERING & DESIGN - Week 3: July 10-14
  • KITCHEN CREATIONS - Week 4: July 17-21
  • LIFETIME SPORTS - Week 5: July 24-28
"My student's progress in your summer school program improved her writing and reading skills. Your reading teacher helped me by modeling truly motivating compliments. She kept saying, 'Your daughter works really, really hard!' My student was nearly in tears with gratitude for having someone take notice of her. What a watershed time last summer was!" The Edison High School English Department is a well-rounded and rigorous four-year experience for all students. At the 9th and 10th grade levels we focus on breadth and fluency where students are provided with a rich and broad experience concentrated on reading and writing at the foundational level. At the 11th and 12th grade levels we seek to deepen student's understanding through an in-depth and rigorous exploration of longer and more complex texts coupled with a large number of writing opportunities resulting in a generous corpus. We offer a highly qualified group of teachers who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our department. Through their consistent collaborative efforts within and outside of the department, Edison High School continues to be one of the most sought after and high profile high schools in the valley. We welcome you to our department site and encourage you to explore and learn more about what makes Edison so great.
