Procedure for Admission

The admission shall be based on the criteria notified by the University, keeping in view the guidelines/norms in this regard issued by the UGC and other statutory/regulatory bodies concerned and taking into account the reservation policy of the State Government from time to time.

Admission to the Ph.D. Program shall be made using the following methods:

• The University shall qualify for fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/NET-LS/UGC- CSIR NET/SET/GATE (Valid Score)/ JRF/ SRF/ ICAR/ ICMR/DET/DST/CEED and similar National level tests based on an interview.
• The University shall admit students through an Entrance Test conducted at the level of the University. The Entrance Test syllabus shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be subject - specific.
• Students who have secured 50 % marks in the entrance test are eligible to be called for the interview.
• A relaxation of 5 % marks will be allowed in the entrance examination for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/DT-A/NT-B/NT-C/NT-D & OBC (non-creamy layer if applicable) /Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time.
• University will decide the number of eligible students to be called for an interview based on the number of Ph.D. seats available.
• Provided that for the selection of candidates based on the entrance test conducted by the University, a weightage of 70 % for the entrance test and 30 % for the performance in the interview/viva- voce shall be given. All exempted candidates will be given 70 marks in written test accordingly.
• An interview will be organized by the University where the candidates are required to discuss their research interest area through a presentation before a duly constituted Department Research Committee.
• The Department Research Committees shall be as under:

A) Admission to University Departments:

• Head of the Department concerned (Chairman);
• Two Subject Experts (One from the Department concerned and One from outside);
• Two nominees of the Vice-Chancellor – One General and One Reservation.

B) Admission to Research Centers at Affiliated Colleges and Recognized Institutions:

• Principal / Director of the Affiliated Colleges and Recognized Institutions concerned (Chairman);
• Two subject experts of which at least one should be from outside the department/Institute.

C) Admission at Recognized Research Institution:

• Academic co-ordinator of the institution;
• One Professor from the University Department concerned, nominated by the Vice-Chancellor;
• Reservation nominee appointed by the Vice-Chancellor.

The final interview score will be based on the average of the scores given by the chairman and the two subject experts only.

3. The University departments/research Centers at affiliated colleges and recognized institutions/recognized research institutions shall obtain the nomination of the Vice Chancellor on the Departmental Research Committee as per the constitution mentioned in (viii) of rule no. 3 of the Vice Chancellor's order for the purpose of the admission process.

• whether the candidate possesses the competence for the proposed research;
• whether the research work can be suitably undertaken at the Department/Institution/College;
• whether the proposed area of research can contribute to new/additional knowledge.
• Notify well in advance on the University’s website specifying the number of seats according to Departments and Recognized Research center for admission, subject/discipline-wise distribution of available seats, criteria for admission, the procedure for admission and all other relevant information for the candidates;
• Adhere to the State-level reservation policy, as applicable.

9. University will maintain a list of Ph.D. supervisors (specifying the name of the supervisor, his or her designation and the department/school/center), along with the details of Ph.D. scholars (specifying the name of the registered Ph.D. scholar, the topic of his/her research and the date of admission) admitted under them on the website of the institution and update this list every academic year. University Departments & Recognized Research Centers shall maintain such data. The link of their website is to be linked to the SPPU website.

Savitribai Phule Pune University, SPPU will conduct its Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D. Entrance Examination on August 22, 2021. The online applications for Ph.D. courses have started already on July 12, 2021. Candidates interested and eligible for the course can click here for applying-  unipune.ac.in. 

The entrance examination for the Ph.D. course will be conducted in online proctored mode. The standard passing criteria for the examination is fifty percent marks for the general category. The standard passing criteria for the reserved category is forty-five percent marks.  

Savitribai Phule Pune University Ph.D. Examination: Important Dates 

The duration of the examination will be for two hours. It will be held between 10 am to 4 pm. The results for the examination will be published on the university website itself. There will be no separate certification of results which will be issued by the university.

Savitribai Phule Pune University Ph.D. Examination: Eligibility Criteria 

For candidates willing to secure Ph.D. admission to SPPU, should:

• Have a Master's degree or a professional degree that is declared equivalent to the Master's degree by the statutory regulatory body.
• Candidates should have a minimum of 55% marks in the aggregate or its equivalent grade B in the UGC 7-point scale.
• Candidates with M.D or M.S qualifications can also apply.
• Candidates having an equivalent degree from foreign universities can also apply.

Similarly, candidates who have cleared their Master of Philosophy, MPhil course work with at least 55% aggregate can also apply for the course. Candidates who have done their MPhil from SPPU itself, and it has been evaluated, may also be admitted to the Ph.D. programme.  

However, candidates qualifying UGC-NET including Junior Research Fellow, JRF, State Level Eligibility Test, SLET, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, GATE, Indian Council of Medical Research, ICMR, and others will be exempted from appearing for the entrance examination.  

About SPPU Ph.D. Entrance Exam   

Savitribai Phule Pune University conducts its Ph.D. examination for entrance to Ph.D. courses. The entrance examination consists of 100 marks and it is Multiple Choice type Questions. The entrance test consists of research methodology for 50 marks and specific subjects for 50 marks. The entrance test is followed by a personal interview of candidates who qualified for the entrance test. Applications are invited from all the eligible candidates for Ph.D. programme for AY 2024 – 25. Candidates should check the research interests/domains of available supervisors before applying for admission. The admissions shall be made based on Vishwakarma University Ph.D. Entrance Test (VUPET) Examination followed by Interview.

Eligibility Criteria 

The following are eligible to seek admission to the Ph.D. programme:

(1) Candidates who have completed:

A 1-year/2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.

or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution. 

A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade is allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS).

Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS).

(2) Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, will be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS).

Note: Applicants qualifying Master's Degree in 2024 can apply for Ph.D. admission. Applicants need to submit the Master's Degree result on or before July 30, 2024, in person or through the confidential document. The VUPET examination will have two papers

• Paper I would be of 50 marks, 2 hours duration, objective type, aimed at assessing the research methodology, general intelligence and aptitude of the applicants.
• Paper II would also be of 50 marks, 2 hours duration, subjective and aimed at assessing the subject knowledge, the communication skills, research thinking of the candidate.

Paper I:  It will have 50 questions of 1 mark each. The scope of this paper includes logical reasoning, numerical ability, language skills, research Methodology etc. This paper is common for students of all faculties. Minimum passing is 50% for all applicants.

Ph.D. Entrance Exam Syllabus for Paper I

The result of Paper-I will be displayed one hour after the Paper-I exam. 

Only those applicants qualifying the Paper-I will be eligible to appear for Paper-II.

Paper II:  This paper is subject-specific, subjective type and 2 hours duration. The aim of this paper is to check the subject knowledge, research thinking, communication skills, etc.

The passing percentage for this paper is 50% for all candidates.

VUPET is a qualifying examination. Candidates who score more than 50% marks in both papers are eligible to appear for an interview

Note: A relaxation of 5 % marks will be allowed in the entrance examination for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/differently-abled category, and Economically Weaker Section (EWS).

A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently-abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the commission from time to time.

Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor's degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of commission from time to time.

Candidates who have completed the M. Phil programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale. Reservation is applicable only to Maharashtra domicile candidates provided they submit the necessary documents for reservation before interview. Outside Maharashtra candidates will be considered in open category.

Candidates satisfying eligibility criterion shall be called to appear for the Ph.D. entrance test conducted by MITWPU.

PhD entrance test shall be qualifying with qualifying marks as 50% provided that relaxation from 50% to 45% shall be allowed for the candidates belongs to SC/ST/OBC (Non creamy layer)/Differently abled category, Economically Weaker section (EWS) and other category of candidates. The syllabus of entrance test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be subject specific.

The interview/viva-voce will be conducted by the university for test qualifying candidates. For selection of candidates a weightage of 70% to the entrance test and 30% to the performance in the interview/Viva-voce shall be given. For GATE/NET/JRF /SET/GPAT/CEED qualified students, the selection will be based on Interview/Viva Voce

The recommended candidates will be intimated through email about their selection and the candidates will be offered Ph.D. provisional admission.

The eligibility of a candidate is provisional as per information provided by the candidate in his/her application form and is subject to verification of minimum eligibility conditions for admission to the program, educational documents and reservation documents (if any).

University keep rights to cancel admission of the Ph.D. scholars in the case of misconduct by the scholar, unsatisfactory progress/absent for consecutive two progress seminars, failure in any examination related to Ph.D., fabrication found in educational and reservation documents, candidate is found ineligible, involved in plagiarism in paper publications and thesis.

Provisional eligibility to appear in the selection process is no guarantee for admission to the program.

Candidates who will join PhD program full time, they will be provided with the stipend as per MITWPU norms.

• Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed).

The Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET), Symbiosis Law Admission Test (SLAT) and the SIT Engineering Entrance Exam (SITEEE)

2024 results have been announced by Symbiosis International (Deemed) University today, May 22. Scorecards for the university’s undergraduate entrance exams for law and engineering have also been issued, according to information posted on the official website. The SET 2024 result can be downloaded at set-test.org by candidates who took the Symbiosis entrance exam 2024. To get the Symbiosis result 2024, candidates must have their SET ID and password.

SET Result 2024: Steps to check

To download the Symbiosis entrance test result 2024, candidates need to follow the below-given steps:

Step 1. Visit the Symbiosis official website set-test.org.

Step 2. Now click on the link ‘Download SET result 2024’.

Step 3. From the homepage log in using your SET username and password.

Step 4. After submitting, the result will be shown on your screen.

Step 5. Check the details properly.

Step 6. Now, you can download your SET result and take the printout.

SET Scorecard 2024: Details Mentioned

Every SET scorecard will have the following information on it:

-Name of the candidate.

-Roll number and SET registration.

-Candidate’s subject scores.

-Candidate’s overall score.

It is recommended that candidates verify all information included in the scorecard and notify the appropriate authorities if they find any inaccuracies. Candidates need to download their scorecards within the allotted time frame, as the institute will not process any request for scorecards after the given time frame.

The next step of the selection procedure, which consists of SET counselling and a personal interview round, will be open to applicants who pass the entrance exam. The cost for seat confirmation must be paid by candidates who make the cut during the counselling process.

SET Exam Result 2024: Exam Process

After the SET 2024 results are revealed, the following steps are followed:

1. A merit list of chosen applicants who qualify for the next level of selection, which entails personal interviews (PI), will be made public by each participating institute following the SET cut-off marks.

2. Candidates’ performance in the SET 2024 exam and the WAT/PI/ST rounds will determine their final admission status.

3. The institutes that will call candidates for the PI round are those that they applied to before the payment deadline. The call letters will be distributed to the candidates four to five days before the personal interview session.

The SET 2024 Phase 1 and Phase 2 exams were held on May 5 and May 11, respectively. The SET admission exam is conducted to choose students to be considered for Symbiosis International University’s undergraduate programmes in engineering, economics, computer studies, mass communication, liberal arts, law and management.

Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Graduate Programs works closely with others in the graduate office to support the strategic initiatives of the college and advance graduate programs. This position includes student advising, coordination of programmatic activities, and office support.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Manages the Grad2Grad program by assisting in recruiting for the Grad2Grad program. Interviews and then manages the undergraduate students that are accepted into the program. Coordinates the undergraduate transition to graduate student status.
• Coordinates Professional Development activities for Master’s level students:
• Coordinates Graduate level Dean’s Fellows program
• Organizes and enacts in-person and virtual student orientation each semester
• Forms cohort study groups for Master’s level programs and organizes networking activities
• Supports Executive Coaching Series and other events
• Liaison to CM to ensure availability of appropriate development activities
• Assist in scheduling and set-up of graduate program events
• Establish a warm and friendly work environment while providing student support for emergent issues.
• Supports DCOBT graduate programs for accreditation and reporting purposes.
• Coordinate Educational Testing Services (ETS) testing for business students; procure tests and assists in administering the online exam; retains and provides results.
• Assists with graduate scholarship and assistantship applications.
• Assists in the supervision of Graduate Assistants and Student Workers.
• Provides back-up support and weekend coverage for the graduate programs as needed.
• Development of knowledge of program requirements and confirmation of accuracy in college catalog and online. Updates webpages as program requirements change.
• Assists with marketing and promotion of Graduate Activities.
• Coordinates with others to improve processes, including admissions and marketing.
• Other duties as assigned.
