Nenu Local movie review: Nani redefines a done-to-death love story
The triumph of love over everything is an expected ending but the way it is presented in nenu local makes it a remarkable finish..
Nenu Local movie cast: Nani, Keerthy Suresh, Naveen Chandra
Nenu Local movie director: Trinadha Rao Nakkina
Nenu Local movie rating: 3
A graduate, who somehow manages to get his degree, falls in love with a girl — a typical love-at-first-sight phenomenon. He convinces her to reciprocate his feelings with his antics and then starts his pursuit of convincing her father.
Flip through the old tomes of rom-coms in Tollywood and you will encounter a thousand stories like this presented in a million numbers of ways. However, what makes Nenu Local different is Nani himself, who redefines the narrative of a romantic film.
More from the world of Entertainment:
A mass rhetoric laced with comedy, Babu (Nani) has the gift of gab that works effortlessly in driving the narrative. The humour is interactive and hence brings attention to the other characters, whose responses and reactions gives authenticity to the film.
Though the script is based on a hackneyed theme, it attempts to bring a fresh flavor that throws any sense of predictability off its course. Without any digressions, the comic storyline highlights the subtleties in a father-daughter relationship and the nuanced choice of happiness over luxury — with a tad bit of melodrama, of course! The contrast between two families of different stature is presented in a realistic way against the norms of typical stereotyping.
Keerthi (Keerthy Suresh) is another addition that makes the story line smooth as she seamlessly dovetails with Babu to build that intricate chemistry between the lovers.
Spolier alert! Siddharth (Naveen Chandra) is introduced into the plot midway to complete it, and though his presence is shadowed, he remains a great launch pad for all the characters around him who get an encouraging push.
If you are in for the film, the climax is what makes the story more meaningful, in fact, the entire onus of the film lies on it. The triumph of love over everything is an expected ending but the way it is presented in Nenu Local makes it a remarkable finish.

'Nenu Local' Review: Nani In Top Form
Movie: Nenu Local Rating: 3/5 Banner: Sri Venkateswara Creations Cast: Nani, Keerthy Suresh, Naveen Chandra, Sachin Khedekar, Tulasi, Posani, Eeshwari Rao, Rao Ramesh and others Cinematography: Nizar Shafi Music: Devi Sri Prasad Story-Screenplay-Dialogues: Prasanna Kumar Bejawada Editing: Prawin Pudi Producer: Sirish Director: Trinadha Rao Nakkina Release date: Feb 03, 2017
Last year, Nani came up with three movies and all of them received good response and he is now on top of his career. Today, his films are most keenly awaited.
When he teamed up with Dil Raju, expectations soared up, and when this trailer came out, they soared further. The songs composed by DSP also became popular. So, has the film come out well like the trailer?
Story: Babu (Nani) is poor at studies but passes after attempting many supplementary exams. Irritated by his constant appearances at exams an invigilator cum lecturer helps him out copying from the book.
One day, a girl slaps him on the road thinking he was the guy who is sending filthy messages to her. Later she apologizes and he falls in love with her immediately. He finds out that Keerthy (Keerthy) is studying MBA and is rich. He also joins MBA and challenges her that he would make her fall in love.
Like in all Telugu movies, she says no to him but gets disturbed by his thoughts eventually. Now, her dad who is the same lecturer who helped Nani to get pass marks doesn't like Babu. He arranges her marriage with a police Inspector (Naveen Chandra).
Rest of the drama is between these two guys fighting for her.
Artistes’ Performances: In a cheeky role, Nani has come out with flying colors. This is fun character that he has played with so much fervor.
Keerthy Suresh is cute and has done her job well, nothing much to rave about her.
Naveen Chandra in key role is okay. He has gone for a transformation in this cop role. Sachin Khedekar as Keerthy's father is good. Posani brings some laughs as middle-class father of Nani. Eeshwari Rao as mother is okay.
Technical Excellence: Dil Raju's movies are made with good technical and productions value. "Nenu Local" too has rich visuals (Nizar Shafi's color photography), and good artwork (A S Prakash).
Devi Sri Prasad who has composed music for Nani's movie for the first time has given young and cheerful tunes. Three songs are catchy and foot-tapping. The pace of the film is uneven.
Highlights: Nani's acting Devi Sri Prasad's music Entertainment quotient
Drawback: Regular story No exciting moment Routine scenes
Analysis: Director Trinadha Rao and his writer team Prasanna Kumar have given us earlier an entertaining movie called "Cinema Choopista Mama" featuring Raj Tharun in the lead role. The movie became a hit due to its entertainment. Similarly for this movie also, the writer and director team has followed the pattern.
What is there in "Cinema Choopista Mama" is also there here in "Nenu Local". Raj Tarun falls for the charm of Avika, she doesn't accept his love first but he relentlessly follows her and makes her agree to it, then her father puts completely breaks to their love. Raj Tharun then takes a challenge. Replace Raj Tarun with Nani and Avika with Keerthy and you get the story for "Nenu Local".
What is extra in the film is that the writer and director have added scenes from the movies like "Idiot", "Premante Idera", and scores of other movies that released in the last decade and half. It is remixed version of all these films.
The film begins with Nani's voiceover that people recall everything when they are about to die. As a gun is pointed at him, he recalls his love story. This is interesting, but what follows isn't. The first scene is novel, but rest of the drama is routine.
The movie picks up the momentum when he tries to convince Keerthy to get disturbed by him and fall for him. The moment she gets disturbed, the fun factor goes off and it falls into again formulaic way.
The interval twist is quite predictable. In how many films have we not seen the heroine's father fixing her marriage with another guy. But the back-story for Naveen Chandra's character is interesting though.
Till the interval the drama goes on funny manner though it is predictable. But post interval the time-pass moments are few. When Naveen Chandra puts Nani in jail for a petty case, Nani comes up with an idea, which is most idiotic and lengthy. Second half runs on such sequences, as there is no proper script.
What works in the film is Nani's energetic performance and songs. Nani makes many dull moments livelier and his dialogue delivery sure would bring claps. Devi Sri Prasad's songs have helped.
All in all, "Nenu Local" completely has relied on Nani's acting and some fun moments but it is nothing but remixed version of many movies. Predictability is the main issue.
Bottom-line: Idiot Remix!

Director : Trinadha Rao Nakkina
Producer : Dil Raju
Music Director : Devi Sri Prasad
Starring : Nani, Keerthy Suresh, Naveen Chandra
Natural Star, Nani is in full swing with back to back hits. He has now come up with a youthful entertainer called Nenu Local. Produced by Dil Raju, this film has hit the screens all over today. Let’s see whether Nenu Local gives Nani yet another hit in his career.
Babu(Nani) is a happy go lucky youth who falls in love with Keerthi(Keerthi Suresh). He starts wooing her and after a lot of effort finally manages to impress her. Right when things seem to be going fine, a huge disturbance erupts in the form of Keerthi’s dad (Sachin Khadekar) and inspector Siddharth Varma(Naveen Chandra).
Who is this cop? What is Keerthi’s dad up to? and how does Babu solve all his problems and ends up marrying Keerthi ? That forms the rest of the story.
Plus Points:
One of the biggest plus points of the film is the entertaining narration by director Trinadh Rao. Even though the story is routine and ages old, the proceedings are filled with good comedy and romance.
Nani takes his stardom to the next level with Nenu Local. Till now, everyone has seen Nani’s good performances but Nenu Local shows him in a complete mass avatar. His heroism, dialogue delivery, and mass avatar are on full display. Nenu Local, once again proves that Nani is picking interesting films which will help his career big time.
Keerthi Suresh is superb and her chemistry with Nani is a major boon to the film. The first half has good fun and Nani’s love track with Keerthi has been executed well. Some comedy episodes like the police station and pre-wedding scenes evoke good comedy. Naveen Chandra is impressive in his role and so was Hindi actor Sachin Khedekar.
Minus Points:-
As said earlier, there is absolutely nothing novel in the story line. Stories like these, we have seen many a time in the past. There are many scenes in the film which have been stretched to no extent and only increase the run time.
The climax of the film looks a bit over the top and major audience will not be okay with the manner in which things are ended. The last fifteen minutes of the second half become slow and hugely predictable.
Technical Aspects:-
Devi Sri Prasad’s music is undoubtedly yet another asset of the film. All the songs are quite good and have also been placed well in the film. Production values by Dil Raju are neat as he has not compromised on the look of the project. Dialogues are massy and suit the body language of Nani quite well. Editing is just about okay as there are many scenes which needed to be edited out in both the halves.
Coming to the director Trinadh Rao, he has done a good job with the film. Even in his earlier project Cinema Choopista Mama, the father in law concept was the main theme and here too, the same is repeated. The only difference is there is more fun and the director has Nani’s star power to elevate the proceedings. Trinadh Rao has showcased Nani as a star hero and made this film a perfect pad to take Nani’s star status to even bigger heights.
On the whole, Nenu Local is a likable love story which is aimed at the youth and mass audience. Today’s younger generation will surely connect to Nani’s character and performance which is the biggest highlight of the film. If you ignore the routine story line and predictable proceedings, this film has decent fun, good songs and some light hearted entertainment which makes up for a good time pass watch this weekend.

Nenu Local movie review: It's another hit for Nani
Cast: Nani, Keerthi Suresh, Tulasi, Posani, Sachin Khedekar, Eswari Rao, Naveen Chandra and others Director: Trinadha Rao Nakkina
Actor Nani is now in the best phase of his career, his last five films being hits. The latest, Nenu Local, directed by Nakkina Trinadha Rao, was released this Friday, with Keerthi Suresh as the female lead, and top music director Devi Sri Prasad composing the music. Dil Raju, whose Shatamanam Bhavathi remains a great success, is the producer. The plot is fairly routine. Babu (Nani) comes from a middle-class family and has just managed to get through his engineering exams and is wondering what to do next when he meets Keerthy (Keerthy Suresh) and falls in love with her at first sight.
She doesn’t feel the same way though, but he is determined to make her love him. When she finally does, her father (Sachin Khedekar) objects. He is a lecturer and had helped Babu to pass his exam. Father wants her to marry a police inspector (Naveen Chandra). Keerthy loves Babu but tells him he must win over her father first. The film revolves around how the two suitors fight each other to impress the father. The plot is not original; we have seen something on similar lines in Idiot and Arya and in fact, director Trinadha Rao’s earlier film Cinema Choopista Mama is on the same subject, with just the characters changed here, and some entertainment scenes added.
Many of the scenes too resemble those in his earlier films. It’s the entertainment everyone wants, so the director sticks with it. Nani gives a good performance and dominates the film. He has terrific timing and his special dialogue delivery is superb. His character is fun from start to finish. The film will be another hit for him. Keerthy Suresh looks good. Posani Krishna Murali provides a few laughs as Babu’s father. Naveen Chandra as the police officer and Babu’s rival has an important role and plays it well. Sachin Khedekar also impresses as Keerthy’s father.
Devi Sri Prasad, easily the top music director in the industry currently, once again comes out with flying colours. The soundtrack remains interesting and overall, the music is one of the highlights of the film — along with some excellent songs. The dialogue is entertaining and provides some laughs. The cinematography too deserves special mention. Nenu Local is a formula film but it gives the audience a bang for their buck (or paisa vasool, in local parlance). It’s really Nani all the way; he carries the film on his shoulders with his energetic performance and entertaining skills. And it’s certainly a good time for producer Dil Raju too; he is minting money with his recent hit Shathamanam Bhavanti, and Nenu Local looks all set to boost the producers’ revenues.

What's it about!
For Babu (Nani), who clears B.Tech after multiple attempts, it was love it first sight with Keerthy (Keerthy Suresh) who slaps him on the road mistakenly. He proposes her, she rejects. He tells her that he would disturb her, she says she is not that weak to get disturbed. Taking it as a challenge, he joins her MBA College as student. He truly disturbs her, and she relents to his love demand. Trouble is that her father (Sachin Khadekar) doesn't want such wayward as his alludu (son-in-law). He arranges her marriage with a police officer Siddharth Varma (Naveen Chandra) and gets oath from his daughter that she should marry whomever her orders. Now she tells Babu to make a situation that her father should order to marry him, not Siddharth.
'Idiot', 'Arya'.. other so-called youthful movies, which were unique at the time of release, have developed a certain pattern in Tollywood. Many filmmakers have rehashed the pattern successfully. The formula is so simple - hero proposes to heroine, she rejects him at first, but he tries relentlessly to win her love by doing some funny acts and he impresses with her his unique and aggressive attitude. Yes, hero's attitude and unique characterisation is the key in these kind of movies. In such movies, hero is generally seen as a fit for nothing but wins the rich girl, mama (heroine's father) gets irritated by hero's attitude, heroine would tell the hero that I will wait for you, you win the challenge. In "Nenu Local" too, the storywriter Prasanna Kumar Bejawada and director Trinadha Rao Nakkina have diligently followed this template just filling some new sequences apart from using the same tricks they haves done in their previous movie "Cinema Choopista Mama". Nani takes the charge from the first scene itself to make it entertaining as the story and scenes are so predictable and formulaic. The college scenes, however they are routine, are funny and bring out some laughs. Scenes like the lecturer who helped in exams turning out to be his mama are funny. Since the story is running on predictable path, we get to enjoy this sporadic comic moments. The story and narrative have followed completely beaten to death path. Nani who has been in full flow of late has come up with cheerful acting that has enlivened many moments. His acting reminds us of young Ravi Teja, energetic and playful. But he has gone overboard at many times especially in the climax. Keerthy Suresh is just okay. Posani as Nani's father and Sachin Khadekar as Keerthy's father have helped the movie with their reliable performances. Eeshwari Rao, Tulasi, Rao Ramesh and other actors have done justice to their minor roles. Apart from Nani's show, the film's other strength is Devi Sri Prasad's tunes. "Ekkada Ekkada" is such a good melody. "Next Enti" "Champesave Nannu" are catchy. His background score is effective. Cinematography is good. The movie's runtime is lengthy for its 're-hashed story'. Writer Prasanna Kumar and director Trinadha Rao have shown that they have limited ideas.
Bottom-line: 'Nenu Local' follows the same path of 'Idiot' and other such old hits. Nothing new in this flick but offers some time-pass moments with Nani's performance. Formula flick.

Triumph of the good for nothing chap...again.
Writer Prasanna Kumar Bezawada and director Trinadha Rao Nakkina have strangely come up with a film that's outdated and also conveying a wrong message. This is not something that one expects people like Nani and Dil Raju to be supporting. (more)

Nenu Local Movie Review
Nenu Local is incredibly predictable. If not for Nani's comedy timing and skill to keep audiences glued to the seats, the movie would have had nothing much to offer. Set that aside, and it would border on boring. Nenu Local rides on Nani and nothing more. Watch it for him. (more)

Nenu Local: Street smart and little else
On many occasions, you'd wonder why a girl would choose a guy who has little else apart from street smartness and a funny bone. In a scene where he takes her to his house for an impromptu meal with his parents, he shows her that little things matter. Well, but wouldn't you root for the hero even more if he put in some effort to make himself worthwhile? (more)

Nenu Local Review
Nenu Local Review, What’s Behind: Natural Star Nani’s combination with director Trinadh Rao Nakkina, music composer Devi Sri Prasad and producer Dil Raju made ‘Nenu Local’ one of the excited projects. After a weak ‘Majnu,’ this is the fresh outing from Nani. Let us see, how entertaining ‘Nenu Local’ is?
Nenu Local Story: Local lad Babu (Nani) is a carefree attitude guy with absolutely no goal in life makes a happy living with middle class father (Posani) and mom (Eashwari Rao). Completing B. Tech after writing many supplementary exams, Babu falls in love with Keerthy (Keerthy Suresh) and joins her in MBA. As usual, Keerthy is impressed with Babu’s character and is on the verge of expressing her love. Twist is Keerthy’s typical father (Sachin Khedekar) selects Police Officer Siddharth Varma (Naveen Chandra) as best choice for his daughter. How Babu resolves the problems around and wins his love is rest?
Nenu Local Artists and Technicians: From story perspective, ‘Nenu Local’ is a cocktail of too many hit formulae like ‘Idiot, Cinema Chupista Mava, Arya, Bhale Bhale Magadivoy’ and others. Pick a microscope and evaluate every scene, one can’t find a novel element to excite us. Yet, ‘Nenu Local’ breezes off with an entertaining narration held at all the ends by Nani. Writer Prasanna Kumar and director Trinadh Rao adopted a safest route to complete this project without straining the resources. Working a script based on hero’s strengths made ‘Nenu Local’ securing producer interests. Trinadh Rao’s skill lied in lifting the best worked out scenes from recent hits and stitching them to one thread was Prasanna Kumar’s job done. Dialogues although lengthy at times, Nani’s timing made them sound just near to perfect. Devi Sri Prasad’s ‘Next Enti’ and ‘Arere Yekkada’ songs are instantly catchy, BGM is a routine work. Nizar Shafi replicated the same camera work of BBM here too. Prawin Pudi’s editing made illogical scenes to really look logical with hurried sharpness. Production standards from Harshit Reddy, Dil Raju are worth appreciative.
Onto performances, what to say about Nani? He is yet again fluent spilling the ease and energy throughout. His mass histrionics sometimes went overboard but manageable. Comic timing, body language and dialogue delivery with decent modulation, all in all he is a show stealer. Keerthy Suresh hasn’t got a character of her caliber. She just supported Nani with some hot saree looks in ‘Arere Yekkada.’ Naveen Chandra makes grand action interval entry and gradually lost steam in second half. Sachin Khedekar rehashed Murali Sharma from BBM. Posani and Eashwari Rao are thoroughly entertaining. Tulasi does her job. Rao Ramesh is the climax link thread. Prabha Srinu and others were ok.
Nenu Local Advantages:
Nenu Local Disadvantages:
Routine Story
Predictable Screenplay
Second Half
Illogical Liberties
Too Many Inspirations
Nenu Local Rating Analysis: Biggest credibility Nani enjoys among audience is his films are less boring and more entertaining. Agreed ‘Nenu Local’ is made with a tested formula but it worked to major extent because of dialogues and scenes aimed at college going youth. Content aside, it’s the commercial outlook of the film counts at Box Office and Nani’s image is best put to use.
Right from the word go, we are glued to an age-old treatment bottled with new dialogues. Nani’s college comedy is refreshing and concept of ‘Next Enti’ song is youth aimed. Keerthy Suresh’s entry and Nani’s tricks to impress her are insipid. Meanwhile, Keerthy’s father track resembles more with BBM and CSM. Before ending the interval on an enjoyable time pass note, comes in Naveen Chandra opening the space for second half conflict.
However, ‘Nenu Local’ second half struggles with irrational episodes making the proceedings slow down and predictable. Episodes like Luxury Vs Happiness or Nani showing his local power in PS went overboard unnecessarily overstretched. All of sudden, a serious climax with Rao Ramesh back into scene was silly and unconvincing. Every character except Nani lost its spine in the climax.
Overall, ‘Nenu Local’ is a strictly average product for common audience and viewers who love freshness However, Box Office predictability with respect to Nani’s dynamism, light heated humor, neat dialogues and DSP made the film an above average product and CJ goes with 2.75 stars. Bottom line is, Nani slowly moving into a danger zone restricting him-self to methodical scripts. Time for Nani to have a 3.25 film like BBM else he is at a stand-still image. Commercially, ‘Nenu Local’ is a safe bet at ticket counters.
Nenu Local Cinejosh Verdict: Nenu Pakka Regular.

Nenu Local Review – Too Much Disturbance
OUR RATING 2.5/5
CENSOR ‘U/A’ Certified, 143 mins.
How is Nani’s performance? Nani is a good actor and he can perform well, if he is controlled. When he let lose he quietly slips into over action mode. This is on display in the film in many scenes. Also, at times he comes across as ripping off certain popular actors. Apart from those issues he is good but one can say with confidence has done far better previously.
First of all it is not fresh hero character. Secondly, it is too offensive in nature. The girl is literally harassed till she starts to love and hero despite all his wrong doings is made to look all right. The point that he wants to convey can be told with far better screenplay and not resorting to this type of character for hero. The heroism bits that come in between look so forced even though they evoke few laughs. The first half is okay if one ignores all that is offensive but the second half is downright silly. The introduction of a third character in the love looks like it is meant only extend the run time rather than add anything significantly in storytelling terms. The third character is literally a cardboard standing there to make the hero look good.
One knows how the climax is going to end, that final scene involving all the principle characters in nicely done with good dialogues. Overall Nenu Local is a strictly average fare, if one doesn’t mind all the nonsense that is shown onscreen in the name of entertainment.
Drawbacks? Hackneyed story Screenplay Hero characterization
Did I enjoy it? No.
Will you recommend it? With huge reservations, only for Nani
Nenu Local Review by Siddhartha
Nenu Local had collected $160 K from US premiers which is excellent. This beat the Nani’s previous best Premier record of Gentleman which collected $72 K. It’s a great start.
Final Report: The movie has nothing new to offer, watch this space for Nenu Local Review.
– ‘Ee madhya kaalam lo local feeling rechakotti iddare gelicharu..okati Trump rendu nenu’ -Nani’s dialogue in end card:) – Rao Ramesh does a negative role without his mark. His role is very limited. Vennela Kishore appears for a scene. – Posani as Nani’s father is good but his role could have been hilarious. – Jabardasth Ram Prasad acts as Nani’s friend in the film but there is no comedy from him though.
First Half Report: Average first half with routine love track without any scope for logic. Keerthy Suresh and Nani pair looks good. Posani does hit bit in parts for comedy. So far the movie is pretty routine, second half decides the outcome of the movie.
– Interval twist on Keerthy throwing a challenge to Nani to convince her father in twenty-five days before the wedding date set by her father with Naveen Chandra. – Time for third song followed by high dose of action scene introducing Naveen Chandra as a Cop. – Keerthy Suresh – Nani pair looks pretty good on screen. – Here comes the first fight, bit high dose of action scene for Nani. – Routine college love track between hero and heroine going on with few occasional laughs. – First song ‘Next Enti’ situational song placed well and has been choreographed decently. – Show starts with a flashback episode on Nani.
Nenu Local Live Updates being at 4.30 AM IST. Nenu Local Review follows after live updates.
Nani didn’t arrive on the Telugu cinema scene with a bang but he has slowly and steadily created a space for him. He was in a spot of bother, a couple of years ago but now in the last year and a half, he has turned it all around.
It all started with Yevade Subrahmaniam which was a success in the US. Post that he had his career biggest hit Bhale Bhale Magadivoyi, Krishna Gadi Veera Prema Gadha, Gentleman, and Majnu. All these films arrived in short intervals and have been well received by the audience. The more important part of this journey was the superb run in the US which helped him put good numbers.
His new release Nenu Local is his first film with producer Dil Raju. The actor has clarified that it is not a mass movie but rather a love story with a different characterization for the hero. The attitude of hero is what makes all the difference according to Nani. Trinadha Rao Nakkina director of Cinema Choopistha Maava fame is directing the film with writing by Prasanna. The entertainment in their combination is said to be the film’s biggest USP.
Musically Nenu Local is already a hit with Devi Sri Prasad’s tunes winning the youth’s mandate. Add heroine Keerthi Suresh to the mix, Nenu Local looks like a sure winner at the box office. Will it live up to the expectations in terms of the entertainment? Keep watching this space as we first give Live Updates and following it, the Review.
