Various funny things keep taking place in our class. Our class is called the naughtiest class at school. Nevertheless, in presence of a teacher, we try our best to maintain discipline. One day, our English teacher was teaching a lesson on the advantages of science. It was very hot. Moreover, the lesson was very boring and tedious. Our teacher was trying her best to make it interesting by referring to some of the other things else than the lesson. Suddenly she stopped speaking. We could not make out the reason for her silence. All the eyes traveled back as she reached the backbench on her right side. There the reason for this sudden silence was! One of our classmates, Rohit was sleeping unperturbed. He was not only sleeping, he was snoring too. Our teacher called his name but in vain. Then a neighbor of Rohit shook him up from his sound sleep. Rohit opened his eyes to the reality of the situation. He at once stood up awkwardly murmuring apologies. He looked perplexed. The teacher for a moment did not say anything. Then she smiled bowed a little and said, Good morning Rohit”, and the whole class gave way to the suppressed peals of laughter.

There have been multiple funny incidents that took place in my classroom. But the one that specifically stands out happened last week during lunchtime.

One of my friends is a foodie. While most of us are reluctant in finishing off our food during lunch break, she is someone who looks forward to savouring the goodies packed by her mom on a daily basis. Her lunch is an elaborate affair as well. While we would be struggling to gulp down the chapattis with jam or Maggie noodles from our lunchboxes, the very sight of her opening her lunchbox is a ceremony in itself.

She usually brings a lunchbox with multiple compartments to hold various dishes that her mother lovingly prepares for her in the morning. Her lunch, more often than not, resembles the comfort food that you would order from a restaurant on your cheat day of dieting!

Last week, while I opened my lunchbox to finish off my run-of-the-mill pasta, I saw my friend victoriously unveiling her new lunchbox that looked like a multi-storey building. She then unpacked her lunch that consisted of butter chicken and pulao. After she finished eating that, she gave us a scholarly look while dismantling the different parts of her lunch box and spreading it on the table. She had actually got all the ingredients you would need to create a finger-licking pani puri! And this was how she decided to wrap up her lunch.

While she conscientiously mixed the boiled potatoes, chopped onions, cooked chickpeas, chopped coriander, chutneys, and flavoured pani into the puri, she could have not looked happier! She victoriously finished off the 8 puris in her lunchbox without offering us a morsel to taste. Although this seemed like quite a selfish act on her part, we the spectators enjoyed the show thoroughly, and could not stop laughing as we reminisced about this incident a few days later.

Funny incidents keep happening in our life. They often happen unexpectedly as surprises.

Some years back, one such funny incident happened in my life. It was a bit dangerous as well as funny.

I had gone to the village in which my grandmother, grandfather and other elders lived. It was located in Kolkata South 24 Parganas. I had gone there for a 7-day vacation. I had made many friends there with whom I liked to play. I loved going there with my family because of the beautiful environment. All around the houses were trees and shrubs-spectacular greenery. Also, there were numerous green fields.

One fine day, when I was walking through one of the green fields alone, I could see a green coloured object lying curled at a distance. I walked a bit closer and had a look at it.

I realized that it was a dangerous and poisonous snake. I was really afraid of it and turned slightly pale. I thought that it would bite me.

Immediately I ran back home and started screaming! My grandfather calmed me down and went to that spot with some of the elders and my friends. I was really shocked to see that the snake lay in the same position and had not moved at all.

My grandfather then lifted the ‘snake’ and gave it to the horribly scared me. At that very moment, I could hear peals of laughter from my friends.

Once the object was in my hand, I realized that it was a stupid and silly rubber toy resembling a snake.

I cried and laughed at the same time!

Later, I came to know from my friends that this was done to make me an “April Fool” as it was the 1st of April, 2017.

It was Shivaratri last year. Our small sleepy village rose to life. In the evening people were playing ‘Ravanbadh’ on the open stage. There was a slight chill in the air. I wrapped myself with a white cotton shawl and came to see the show. But soon I felt drowsy. Returning home I sat on the veranda. In the faint light, my white figure frightened a passing man. He called out, “Who’s there?” I at once got into mischief. In a ghostly voice, I said, “Come here.” The man fled and informed others. Soon people crowded the place. The brave man of the locality came forward. I mimicked my voice and said again, “Come here.” “Ghost !” He cried out and fainted. The place became vacant in no time. Only my mother could recognize the ghost.

A Funny Incident in School

It was the annual Sport last year. We all were on the School ground. Those who participated in the sports are in sport dress. Some events had already started. One such event was the ballon race for class 5. In the race one has to run to some distance, then he has to puncture a balloon by sitting on it and then he has to run to the finishing point.

We all were watching the race because the game itself is funny. So the race had started. we all were clapping hands and were encouraging the participants. The boys were running for the balloons. They are bursting the balloons and running towards the finishing points. Almost all were successful except one. He is trying hard to puncture the balloon. The other boys already reached the finishing point. He is still trying. He is jumping on the balloon but the balloon still disobeyed him. We, the spectators, were laughing, clapping and encouraging him but still, he was failing. Other boys had already reached the finishing point. The winners are selected. He is still trying to puncture the balloon.

The Spectators were fading to watch other sports. Finally, the boy got up and ran towards the finishing point, still with the balloon in his hand. Watching him run, the audience clapped and laughed once again. The incident gave me so much fun that it is hard for me to forget.

A 13-year-old Montessori student was mobbed by a group of parents as they egged on a classmate beating the teen — a horrifying incident caught on video last week outside the Yonkers school, legal papers claim.

Now the teenager’s mother, Alenna Merritt, has pulled her daughter out of Yonkers Montessori Academy and filed a legal notice of claim alerting the city of Yonkers that she plans to sue for $40 million over the alleged negligent supervision.

“I felt confused and scared — they kept yelling in my face,” the teen told The Post during a phone interview with her, her mother and lawyer. “When I got attacked, I was feeling alone and scared because nobody was there to help me.”

Merritt’s daughter — whose name is being withheld at the family’s request and who will be referred to by her initials, E.W. — was swarmed by four parents and a grandparent of other students on the baseball field on school grounds at the pre-K-12 Montessori at 7:20 a.m. April 18, according to the mother, the claim and video footage from three phones.

The family’s lawyer, Mark Shirian, said it appeared from the video that the group was looking for E.W.’s friend for some reason and because the pal wasn’t there, it was a guilt-by-association situation, and they went after E.W. instead.

The parents can be heard in the footage yelling and swearing at E.W. before another student rushes her and starts slapping and pummeling her while the parents look on and E.W. attempts to defend herself by slapping back.

E.W. “was left unsupervised” and “violently assaulted on the premises of Yonkers Montessori Academy by students and parents and relatives of current students, during school hours,” according to the notice of claim filed Thursday with the city of Yonkers.

The teen “was viciously assaulted, beaten, and as a result has sustained severe physical, emotional, and psychological injuries,” reads the document, the legal precursor to filing a lawsuit against a municipal agency.

Merritt, 42, of Yonkers told The Post that she is pressing charges against the adults involved also.

She said that after reviewing cellphone videos with the cops, who were called to school that day, the police were able to see that some of the adults also attacked her daughter and have issued a warrant for the arrest of at least one of them.

A joint rep for the Yonkers Police Department and Yonkers Public Schools confirmed that police issued an arrest warrant for Nancy Rosa, 55, on charges of third-degree assault, second-degree harassment and endangering the welfare of a child.

Rosa does not work for the schools, the representative said.

The investigation is ongoing, the rep said, declining to comment on whether further arrests could be expected.

Rosa claimed her granddaughter, a student at the school, was a victim of bullying by E.W. and said the school had failed to intervene in prior incidents.

She said she accompanied her granddaughter to school the day of the incident over concerns for her safety and she never anticipated what transpired.

“The Yonkers Department of Education and Montessori Academy has not only failed my granddaughter, but the alleged victim as well,” Rosa told The Post in a statement. “I wish this would have never happened.”

Merritt said that when she got the call from her daughter around 7:30 a.m. that day, shortly after sending her off to school on the bus, she was “horrified” that this could have happened to her kid.

“I had my child screaming on the phone, screaming that she was hit … and I couldn’t even fathom it,” said Merritt, an executive director at a daycare center.

Merritt said her daughter is now receiving schooling remotely from a tutor — in a program provided by the Yonkers Montessori Academy — for the last roughly 40 days of the school year, since the mom said she wouldn’t dream of returning E.W. to the school, fearing for her safety.

E.W. has already been accepted to a private all-girls Catholic school for the next school year.

Merritt filed a prior notice of claim against the same school in January alleging that staff sexually harassed E.W. by asking her to pull her bra and shake her breasts — believing she was hiding a vape on her person, the claim papers show.

Merritt said that with this second incident, she thought, “Here we go again.

“We have children who are not being supervised and not being protected,” Merritt told The Post. “I’m not going to put her in harm’s way and put her in the lion’s den every day.”

Merritt and her lawyer Shirian said they wonder if school security and staffers intentionally did not intervene in last week’s fight in retaliation for the pending claim against the school.

Shirian said Merritt and her daughter are “rightfully traumatized by this ordeal” and called for the school to swiftly implement “decisive action to rectify this situation and to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.

“This egregious failure to ensure the safety of students is utterly unacceptable,” Shirian told The Post.

The lawyer said his clients may consider bringing legal action against the parents involved as well, but likely not until after the criminal investigation and any resulting criminal cases are over.

The latest notice of claim alleges negligent supervision, negligent hiring, negligent infliction of emotional distress and other related accusations against Yonkers, the Yonkers Board of Education and Yonkers Montessori Academy.

The older notice of claim names many of the same defendants.

A rep for the city, the Yonkers BOE and the Montessori school did not return Post requests for comment.
