APSC Mains Exam – Schemes and Subjects for the Main Examination:

The Main Examination shall consist of

Written Examination and
Interview test .

The written examinations shall consist of six papers of conventional essay type/objective type with limited words. It shall consist of one Essay Paper, five papers on the subject of General Studies. Marks thus obtained by the candidates in the main examination (Written Part as well as Interview) would determine their final ranking.

APSC Mains Exam – Strategy & study plan

Interview Test: (After qualifying in the written test)

The candidates are interviewed by a Board which takes into account their academic career. The marks scored in the interview are added to the marks scored in the written examination (Main) and the rankings of the candidates are determined on the basis of the total marks obtained.

Total Marks : 1775

Marks shall not be allotted for mere superficial knowledge.

Candidates will be required to apply online using the website www.apsc.nic.in . The online Applications can be filled up to the last day for submission as fixed by the Commission. The eligible candidates shall be issued an e-Admission Certificate three weeks before the commencement of the examination. The e-Admission Certificate will be made available in the Commission website for downloading by candidates. No Admission Certificate will be sent by post.

Negative Marking

(a) There will be penalty (negative marking) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the Multiple Choice Question Papers as decided by the Commission. There will be negative marking for incorrect answers (as detailed below) for all questions except some of the questions where the negative marking will be inbuilt in the form of different marks being awarded to the most appropriate and not so appropriate answer for such questions. (b) There will be four alternatives for the answers to every question in Preliminary Examination. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one-fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty. (c) If a candidate gives more than one answer, it will be treated as a wrong answer even if one of the given answers happen to be correct and there will be same penalty as above for that question.

Commission will publicly disclose the scores of the candidates (obtained in the Written Examination and Interview/Personality Test) through the public portals. The disclosure will be made in respect of only those candidates who will appear in the Interview/Personality Test for the Civil Service Examination and are not finally recommended for appointment.

APSC follows negative marking in this test. GS I and II are of 200 marks each. However, the time limit is 120 minutes for each paper. Both the papers are important. However, GS II is qualifying in nature. Hence, only 33% marks need to be the score in this paper of the APSC Exam.

Mains Paper Pattern

Candidates who qualify for prelims are eligible for this exam. Hence, only a few can reach this stage of the exam. Therefore, Assam PSC filters capable candidates for the APSC Exam. Prelim is an objective test. Whereas, mains is a subjective test. Hence, the answers are essay type. Out of all the papers, Paper A and B are qualifying in nature. Hence, only 25% needs to be the score in these papers. Paper A is a regional language paper. Whereas, Paper B is an English paper. Further, APSC Exam contains 8 papers. Paper I is an Essay Paper. Paper II-VI are GS Papers. However, there are two optional papers. Paper VII and VIII are allotted to Optional Paper I and II respectively. All these papers are of 250 marks each.

The candidate needs to submit an essay in the language that he/she has selected while filling out the application in this description section. The applicant needs to write an essay on a given topic in the language of their choice.

APSC Exam Pattern 2024

Applicants must be familiar with the comprehensive APSC CCE exam pattern before taking the APSC CCE 2024 recruitment examination. The exam pattern includes crucial details about the examination, such as the scoring system, the quantity of questions, and the time allotted for the exam. APSC Prelims Exam Pattern 2024

There will be a 400-mark preliminary exam for the APSC CCE. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks in the Prelims recruitment examination. Only candidates who pass the Preliminary examination, the first part of the examination, will be permitted to take the Main examination.

APSC Mains Exam Pattern 2024

Applicants who pass the preliminary exam will be considered qualified to take the main exam. The main examination will include 11–12 times as many people as there are openings in the recruitment cycle and APSC Mains total marks is 1500 marks. APSC Interview Exam Pattern 2024

The Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) is held every year by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).

How many attempts are allowed for apsc cce?

There is no limit on number of attempts allowed for the APSC CCE examination, as long as the candidate of the general category should not be less than 21 years of age.

Is APSC CCE tough?

The APSC CCE is a very competitive exam and it requires several stages of preparation. The first stage includes the Preliminary Examination, the second stage Main Examination, and finally Viva-voce or Interview as well known as “VIVA”.

The Public Service Commission is a body created by the Constitution of India. It is responsible for recruiting eligible candidates for various civil service positions in the state of Assam. The commission conducts various examinations, including the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) for recruitment to the Assam Civil Service, Assam Police Service and other allied services. As all of you know, APSC has issued an official notification of CCE 2022 for the recruitment of 913 posts. In this article, we will provide the complete exam syllabus of the APSC CCE Exam.

The Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) conducts the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) to recruit eligible candidates for various civil service positions in the state of Assam. The CCE syllabus is divided into two parts – the preliminary examination and the main examination.

Name of Exam : Combined Competitive Examination

Name of Organization : Assam Public Service Commission

There will be a two-stage selection process for APSC Combined Competitive Examination. Applicants have to go through these two stages of examination to secure their job under APSC CCE. A brief description of those two stages of the examination is given below.

Preliminary Examination : The Preliminary Examination consists of 2 objective type General Studies question papers with 200 marks each.

Main Examination : The Main Examination shall consist of written examination and interview tests. The written examination shall consist of six papers on the subject of General Studies. Marks thus obtained by the candidates in the main examination (Written Part as well as Interview) would determine their final ranking.

1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)

The Preliminary Examination will consist of two papers of objective type multiple choice questions of two hours duration each.

Date of Exam : 26th March 2023 (Sunday)

Type of Questions : Objective Questions

Total Papers : 2 Papers

Full Marks : 200 Marks for Each Paper.

Duration of Exam : 2 Hours for Each Paper.

Negative Marking : One-fourth of the total mark assigned to one question will be deducted for a wrong answer marked by a candidate.

Syllabus : The candidates may refer to the Assam Public Service Combined Competitive Examination (Amendment) Rules, 2019 for syllabi of General Studies I & General Studies II.

The Main Examination consists of (A) Written Examination and (B) Interview Test.

(A) Written Examination

On the basis of the result of the Preliminary Examination, the number of candidates to be admitted to the written part of the Main Examination will be 11 to 12 times the number of vacancies notified for each category. The selection will be strictly on the basis of merit adhering to the norms of Vertical and Horizontal Reservation as per the prescribed law in force.

Medium of Exam : A candidate shall be allowed to write his/her answer papers in English or Assamese language.

Total Papers : 6 Papers

Full Marks : 250 Marks for Each Paper.

Syllabus of Exam : The structure and syllabus of the APSC CCE main exam will be as follows.

Syllabus of Essay (Paper-I) : To be written in the medium or language of the candidate’s choice. Candidate is required to write an essay on a specific topic. The choice of subjects will be given.

(B) Interview Test

Type of Exam : Interview

Full Marks : 275 Marks

On the basis of the result of the written part of the Main Examination, candidates will be called for an interview in a ratio of 1:3 against the number of vacancies advertised.

The candidates will be interviewed by a board that will have before them a record of his/her career. He/She will be asked questions on matters of general interest. The objective of the interview is to assess the personal suitability of the candidate for a career in public service by a board of competent and unbiased observers. The test is intended to judge the mental calibre of a candidate. In broad terms, this is really an assessment of not only his intellectual qualities but also his social traits and his interest in current affairs. Some of the qualities to be judged are mental alertness, critical powers of assimilation, clear and logical exposition, balance of judgment, variety and depth of interest, ability for social cohesion and leadership, intellectual and moral integrity.

The technique of the interview is not that of a strict cross-examination but of a natural, though directed and purposive conversation which is intended to reveal the mental qualities of the candidate.

The interview test is not intended to be a test either of the specialized or general knowledge of the candidates which has been already tested through their written papers. Candidates are expected to have taken an intelligent interest not only in their special subjects of academic study but also in the events which are happening around them both within and outside their own State or Country as well as in modern currents of thought and in new discoveries which should rouse the curiosity of well educated youth.

The interview, however, will not have any qualifying marks. The marks scored at the interview will be added to the marks scored in the Written Examination (Main).

The Commission shall recommend exactly the same number of candidates for different posts as notified. The Commission shall not recommend a candidate for a post which he/she has not opted for.

Marks thus obtained by the candidates in the Main Examination (Written Part as well as Interview) would determine their final ranking. Candidates shall be allotted to the various services keeping in view of their ranks in the examination and (respective] preference expressed by them for different posts (i.e. on the basis of Merit cum Preference opted by the candidates in their applications for the Main Examination] and reservations therein.

UPSC Civil Service Mains - Preparation Strategy for Essay Paper

While preparing for UPSC Civil Services Mains Exam, aspirants spend a lot of time in handling the general studies and optional subjects as well. But they should also focus equally on Essay paper. You need to write two essays, for each one you get four topics to choose from. Each essay accounts for 125 marks. However, it is prudent to prepare for this paper since it is for 250 marks and can make or break your final tally. This article gives you a few tips to follow while preparing for the essay paper.

How to Prepare for Essay in UPSC Civil Service Exam?

Read many good essays and articles. This will give you a feel of what constitutes a well-written essay.
Build a habit of reading newspaper editorials every day. Essay questions are many times asked from current affairs.
Note down relevant lines or quotes which you can use in your essay, whenever you read books or newspapers.
Have a good collection of opening and closing lines.
Prepare some material on general topics like development, women, education, healthcare, internet, technology, science, etc. Your material should include quotations, case studies, examples, government initiatives, etc. This will be useful while writing the essay. But beware of writing all that you have prepared. You must fine-tune your essay according to the topic, not as per what you have prepared.
Focus more on real-life examples rather than theoretical jargon. Even though many topics may seem like theoretical, you must write relevant, contemporary, current affairs-related stuff in your essay. For instance, in a topic like “Can capitalism bring inclusive growth?” (UPSC Mains 2015) you need not write about the entire history of capitalism, but tune your answer towards current events and focus on ‘inclusive growth’.
Similarly, even if your essay question is philosophical, your essay need not be so. It should be relevant to current times.
You should try to approach a topic from different angles like political, social, historical, environmental, ethical, etc.
You must prepare by writing essays during your preparation time. Also get feedback on the essays you write from mentors, teachers or seniors.
You essay should have an introduction, body and conclusion.
Resist the urge to give too aggressive or one-sided arguments in the essay no matter how passionate you are about the topic.

Essay Paper UPSC 2023 (Mains) Question Paper and Analysis

UPSC conducted the Civil Service Mains exam for essay paper on 15 September 2023.

The CSE mains essay paper comprises two sections. Each section contains 4 essay topics. Out of which 2 topics of choice from each section need to be picked.

Candidates were supposed to answer about 1000-1200 words for each essay.

General instructions mentioned on the essay paper, that need to be followed by every aspirant are provided here.

Total Marks: 250 marks, Time duration: 3 hours.
The essay must be written in the medium authorized in the admission certificate which must be stated clearly on the cover of this question-cum-answer (QCA) booklet in the space provided.
No marks will be given for answers written in a medium other than the authorized one.
Word limit, as specified, should be adhered to.
Any page or portion of the page left blank, must be struck off clearly.

Phase I Exam Pattern For APSC Computer Operator, CDPO Written Exam

Apsc phase ii exam pattern.

The total marks for the Computer Proficiency Practical Test will be 100 marks .
Against each vacancy, four candidates will be shortlisted based on the marks obtained in the written test.
The shortlisted candidates shall have to appear in the Computer Proficiency Practical Test to be held centrally in Guwahati along with original testimonials.
