CSIR Research Associateship (CSIR-RA)
A certain number of Research Associateships (RA-ships) are awarded each year directly by CSIR to young research workers who have shown promise in original research and propose to pursue research work in science, engineering, medicine or technology on specific projects. The Associate will do full time research work on problems stated in his/her application and approved by CSIR.
Eligibility : Candidates with PhD (in a science or engineering subject) or MD/MS/MDS (medical science) or ME/MTech/MPharm/MVSc with 3 years R&D experience are eligible to apply. PhD (science/engineering) thesis submitted are also eligible subject to their being awarded PhD degree before the expiry of the validity of the award offer. The applicant must have at least 1 research publication in standard refereed journal as notified. The fellows are selected on the basis of their C.V. and performance in the interview. The upper age limit for applying is 35 yrs, relaxable up to 5 yrs in the case of SC/ST/OBC, physically handicapped and women applicants.
Fellowship amount : Each fellow is entitled to a monthly stipend in the range of Rs. 36,000-40,000/- plus House Rent Allowance (HRA) as per norms. An annual contingency grant of Rs. 20,000/- is also provided. RA-ships will be tenable initially for a period of 1 year, extendable depending upon the progress of the research as evaluated by the competent authorities. The total tenure of RA is 3 yrs including the tenure of associateship awarded by UGC/DST/ICMR/ICAR etc.

Aligned with the Government of India’s initiative to empower women and promote ‘Nari Shakti’ in the country and the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s efforts to put Nari Shakti at the forefront of India’s development journey, as we move towards AmritKal, CSIR has for the first time announced A Special Call for Research Grants for Women Scientists (CSIR-ASPIRE).
In this call, only women scientists across the country are eligible to apply for research grants to carry out R&D in major disciplines of science and engineering viz Life Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Engineering Sciences and inter/transdisciplinary sciences. The funds will be provided for staff (JRF/SRF/RA), contingency and minor equipment. The total budget of a research proposal including the research fellow’s stipend should generally not exceed the limit of 25-30 lacs.
The research proposals received from women scientists will be selected and regulated by CSIR EMR-II General Research scheme guidelines: www.csirhrdg.res.in/Home/Index/1/Default/2762/62.

DBT-RA PROGRAM IN BIOTECHNOLOGY AND LIFE SCIENCES
Post-doctoral training is an important opportunity in career development of a researcher for refinement of skill set, gaining knowledge and learning of methods for independent scientific investigation. The Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India has recognized the importance of Post-Doctoral training in career development and initiated DBT-Research Associateship Program in Biotechnology way back in 1999. The objective of DBT-RA Program is to train and nurture young researchers, scientists and generate critical mass of trained manpower in modern areas of biology and biotechnology and build a robust postdoctoral base for growth of Biotechnology sectors in the country.
