Class 6 chapter 1 - who did patrick’s homework summary in hindi and english, who did patrick’s homework .

“Who did Patrick’s homework?” is written by Carol Moore. This chapter is about a boy named Patrick. He never did his homework. He hated his homework because it was boring for him. Despite teachers warning to complete the homework and being ignorant, he played hockey, basketball and Nintendo.

One day, while his cat was playing with a doll, he took the doll away. But, he was surprised when he found that the doll was actually a little man wearing old-fashioned britches and a tall hat like a witch’s. That little man cried and asked Patrick to save him. He promised that he would grant Patrick a wish in return.

You can imagine how lucky Patrick was. That little man was the solution to all his problems. He saved the little man and asked to do all his homework till the end of the semester so he could get A’s. The little man felt like someone had thrown a dishcloth on her face. He didn’t like it but he had to do so as he promised.

The little elf started his work. However, there was a glitch. As he didn’t know what to do or how to do, he always needed Patrick’s help. Sometimes, the elf would ask Patrick to look up a word in the dictionary and spell it loudly. Math was even worse. The elf would ask- what are times table, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division? We elves don’t need that.” So, Patrick had to sit next to him and guide him all the time. The same case was with history. It was like solving a puzzle for the little elf. He asked Patrick to fetch more books from the library and read them out loud for him. Then the elf would write those points in Patrick’s answer book.

In reality, the little elf was a nag for him. Patrick started working harder than ever before. He was staying up at night and going to school with his puffed and bleary eyes.

Finally, the last day of school came. The elf had to go as the homework was completed, so he slyly slipped out the back door. Patrick got A’s in all his subjects. His classmates and teachers were amazed. His parents wondered how Patrick had changed and became a model kid. He was cheerful and not rude to anyone. He cleaned his room and did his chores.

You might be thinking that the elf had done all of his homework, but the secret is that he himself was doing all his homework!

Poem: A House, A Home

“A house, a home” is written by Lorraine M. Halli. A house is made up of bricks, stones and hard-wood. It includes glass windows and a yard too. There are other things also like the tiled floors, plastered walls and many doors.

However, all these things do not really make a home. It is a loving family that makes a real home. People care for each other and work unselfishly in a family.

Home means to work for the happiness and welfare of all family members. To be together in both happiness and misfortunes. Members of happy homes care for each other and also show their love for each other by their actions.

who did patrick's homework word meaning english to hindi

Who Did Patrick’s Homework? Summary in Hindi

Introduction

The little man kept his promise and began to do Patrick’s homework. The small man did not always know what to do and he needed Patrick’s help. He cried for help and Patrick had to help him. Once the small man did not know the meaning of a word while doing Patrick’s homework. He wanted a dictionary. He asked Patrick to look up the word and made him speak it out by each letter.

When it was the turn of Maths, Patrick was not lucky. The smallest man does not know much about the subject and wanted to be guided by Patrick. He said that elves did not know human history. Every day the smallest man used to trouble Patrick by asking him to do one thing or the other. Patrick had to work harder than ever before. He found this very dull and uninteresting. He had to keep awake at night. He used to feel tired. He used to go to school with sleepy eyes. The little made Patrick work harder than before by his smart tactics.

Finally, the last day of school came. The elf was free to go because there was no more homework to be done. He quietly slipped out of the back door. Patrick got an A grade in the examination. His teachers smiled and were full of praise. Patrick’s parents wondered how Patrick had done so well. He was now the model child. He started cleaning his room, did all the things he was to do, was always cheerful, and never rude to anyone. He had developed a whole new attitude.

Patrick thought that he had made the tiny man do all the homework for him. The writer says that it was not the elf (the tiny man) who had done any work. It was Patrick himself who had done it himself.

Speaking (Page 13)

In the story Patrick does difficult things he hates to do, because the elf pretends he needs help. Have you ever done something difficult or frightening, by pretending about it in some way? Tell your classmates about it.

Say what you feel about homework. (The words and phrases in the boxes may help you.) Do you think it is useful, even though you may not like it? Form pairs, and speak to each other.

For example:

You may say, “I am not fond of homework.”

Your partner may reply, “But my sister helps me with my lessons at home, and that gives a boost to my marks.”

I: I am not fond of reading books.

My partner: But my brother told me that reading books gives a boost to your vocabulary.

I: My friend is not so keen on scoring good grades in the exams.

My partner: But my sister said that she would assist me in my lessons to score well in the exams.

I: I have not developed a liking for playing football.

My partner: But my cousin assured me that he would help me to learn how to play football.

I: My younger brother has taken to playing chess.

My partner: But my brother does not support me in playing indoor games.

I: I have appealed to my Physical Training teacher to allow me a day’s break from the drill session.

My partner: But playing outdoor games can be a boon for your health.

I: I have always had a taste for delicious food.

My partner: But my mother says that I should clean my bare hands with the aid of soap and water before touching the food.

Writing (Page 13-14)

This story has a lot of rhyming words, as a poem does. Can you write out some parts of it like a poem, so that the rhymes come at the end of separate lines?

Patrick never did homework. “Too boring,” he said.

He played baseball and hockey and Nintendo instead.

  • The man of the smallest size

He was sincere and wise

  • Patrick loved to play sports, not work

He wasted his time and had pending homework

  • The elf promised to help and wore a high tall hat

Patrick saved him from the naughty cat

Look at these sentences.

1. “Too boring,” he said.

2. Cleaned his room, did his chores.

When we speak, we often leave out words that can easily be guessed. We do not do this when we write, unless we are trying to write as we speak (as in the story).

So, if we were to write carefully, we would say:

  • “Homework is too boring,” he said.
  • He cleaned his room and did his chores.

Read the sentences carefully.

Question C:

Rewrite the following incomplete sentences carefully, so that the reader does not have to guess what is left out.

1. more and more books

2. too difficult

3. got up late, missed the bus

4. solved the mystery

1. My sister loves reading more and more books.

2. Maths is too difficult to understand.

3. Last Friday, my brother got up late, he missed the bus for college.

4. The detective solved the mystery of the crime scene.

Question D:

Look at this cartoon by R.K.Laxman. Read the sentence given below the cartoon. Discuss the following questions with your partner.

  • What is it about?
  • Do you find it funny? If so, why?
  • Do you think a cartoon is a serious drawing? Why or why not?

NCERT Solutions Honeysuckle Class 6 English Unit 1 - Who Did Patrick’s Homework - 3

She was given the name Annie in honour of an aunt and formally changed it to Anne in her forties to avoid being confused with Annie E. Moore, another lady who was at the time distributing information on children's libraries. She was in charge of the New York Public Library system's children's library services from 1906 until 1941. Moore's book Nicholas: A Manhattan Christmas Story was one of the two finalists for the 1925 Newbery Medal. 1871–1994: Early years and schooling In Maine's Limerick, Moore was born. She was Luther Sanborn and Sarah Barker Moore's lone surviving daughter, and she had seven elder brothers. In her book, My Roads to Upbringing, she spoke about growing up and how pleasant her upbringing was. Moore started her official schooling in Maine at the Limerick Academy. She then enrolled in The Bradford Academy in Massachusetts, a two-year institution. Despite the prejudices of her day, she intended to become a lawyer like her father, since they were extremely close. The passing of her parents and a sister-in-law derailed her plans to become a lawyer. Moore applied to the Pratt Institute Library in Brooklyn after her brother advised her to think about the developing field of librarianship. She was admitted into the one-year programme (1895) under Mary Wright Plummer.

STORY RETOLD

Patrick's Homework? 1. Patrick never completed his homework. “Too boring,” he remarked. He enjoyed hockey, basketball, and Nintendo. His professors said, “Patrick! Do your homework or you won’t learn.” He did occasionally feel stupid. But how? He loathed schoolwork. 2. He snatched a doll from his cat one day. It was a little guy, not a toy. He wore an old-fashioned cap and a wool shirt. Save me! Keep me away from that cat. I'll fulfil your dream." 3. Patrick couldn’t believe his luck! This solved his issues. He answered, “Only if you do all my homework until the end of the semester; that’s 35 days. If you perform well, I could earn A's.” 4. The small man's face wrinkled like a dishcloth in the hamper. He stomped his knees and doubled his fists, scowling and pursing his lips. “Oh, am I cursed! I’ll do it.” 5. The elf did Patrick's homework as promised. One issue. Elf needs aid. Help me! Help me! Patrick must assist. “I don’t know this word,” the elf gasped when reading Patrick’s assignment. Dictionary, please. Better still, look up the term and hear it out letter by letter. 6. Patrick failed mathematics. “What are times tables?” the elf shouted. “Elves never need that. Division, fractions, addition, and subtraction? Sit by me—you must lead me.” Human history is unknown to elves. The small elf shouted even more. I need books. More novels. You can also help me read.” 7. That tiny elf nags every day! Patrick worked harder, and it was a drag! He went to school with puffy eyes from staying up overnight. 8. The elf left school on the final day. He discreetly left the back door since there was no homework. 9. Patrick's professors and classmates were impressed with his A's. His parents? What happened to Patrick? He became the ideal child. He was happy, completed his duties, and cleaned his room. 10. Patrick still felt he made the small guy complete all his schoolwork. However, I'll confide in you. Patrick did it—not the elf!

The intriguing tale of "Who Did Patrick's Homework?" serves as the centrepiece of the lesson. Patrick initially dislikes completing his schoolwork and prefers to spend his time playing video games and participating in sports. His viewpoint is altered, however, when he comes across a little guy who offers to give him a wish in return for assistance. In an agreement, Patrick asks the young boy to do all of his schoolwork up to the conclusion of the semester. The tiny guy accepts grudgingly, but he often requires Patrick's help since he has trouble understanding and using certain terms. Patrick finds himself assisting the young guy with duties he never imagined himself doing. Patrick's attitude and behaviour change significantly during the course of the narrative. To help the small guy, he learns to be more responsible, hardworking, and persistent. Patrick perseveres and completes his responsibilities despite having restless nights and being exhausted. At the very end, there is a twist, however. Patrick had been doing his own homework all along, as it turns out. Patrick was propelled to take charge of his studies and put up conscientious effort by the small man's presence. The necessity of accepting accountability for one's actions is emphasised throughout the lesson. The first effort by Patrick to assign his assignment demonstrates the delusion of a simple solution. He succeeds as a result of his own perseverance and hard work. Students discover that they must take responsibility for their own learning and tackle problems head-on. The tale also emphasises the value of perseverance. Patrick's partnership with the small guy serves as an example of the benefits of hard work and persistence. Students are aware that attaining success requires persistent work and the readiness to confront challenges, even in uncharted territory. The lecture invites students to reflect on their own experiences and identify situations where responsibility and perseverance were key factors. Students who embrace these traits take an active role in their education and recognise their potential for personal development and success. In conclusion, "Who Did Patrick's Homework?"'s lesson on accepting responsibility and tenacity instills the virtues of accountability and perseverance. It teaches kids how to take on difficulties, work hard, and own their learning in order to succeed in a variety of spheres of life.
