Conducting Market Research What do customers want? What product sells the most? These are very important questions to ask yourself. Never walk into any business blindly. A good businessman will research his market and determine whether his business is viable.

Location Which part of the town or country are you going to establish your business? Choose your location very carefully. If there are other successful agrovets in an area, it would be unwise to do the same. The other big players already have their customer base. Choose a location that is :  Accessible to customers  Easy to manage since you need to be able to oversee the Business regularly.  Secure to avoid losing the stock to robbers and even make your employees feel safe.  Well ventilated and has regular water supply.  Big enough to store products. Chemicals and animal feeds must never mix. Some products also can’t be stored on the ground as they absorb moisture that leads to damage. Proper storage is very important and can only be accomplished if the space is big enough. The location also needs to be in a farming community. For safety reasons, agrovets should not be opened near food stores or supermarkets.

Permit If you don’t want to jump every time you hear the word ‘Kanjo’ ( municipal council inspectors), then get a country permit. It may for 8-10k depending on the county. Relevant Certificates To build the confidence of clients, one needs to obtain relevant Certificates and attach them at a visible point, like the door. The main certificates required are: 1) Certificate from Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS). The certificate is mandatory although the government is lax in checking. However, its best to be safe than sorry. It costs 30k for a distributer, 5k for a wholesale and 1k for a retailer. 2) Certificate from the Pest Control and Products Board. It is issued to those dealing in pesticides and goes for 4k for both distributors and wholesalers and 1k for a retailer.

Branding A well branded business tends to sell itself to the customer. It is not okay about the name but also about the business structure. Display your products in a manner gat is alluring to customers. Let customers be able to see clearly what products are on display.

Employees Whether you are involved in the day to day running of the business or not, an employee(s) provides the needed assistance.One should employ trained personnel that are certified with at least one Agricultural board. They should also be able to relate well with the customers. Training is also important since the employee advices farmers on various chemicals. It is important to have knowledge so as to avoid prescribing the wrong chemicals that may lead to great losses. Trained personnel will also know the conditions suitable for storing various chemicals such as, adamycin antibiotic should not be exposed to sunlight. This prevents the sale of damaged goods to unsuspecting farmers. If you are an expert in the area, then take time to train and mentor employees you feel need it. Sometimes you don’t need to build the business but rather build people and watch them build the business.

Identifying the best producers/ distributors A lot of agrovets have either paid huge fines or been foreclosed for selling counterfeit products. There is need for owners to research and buy products from the right people. Not every wholesaler or distributer is trustworthy. Kenya is full unscrupulous people willing to sell anything for money. Also, compare prices of different companies and choose the most affordable one.

Stock fast moving products It is so frustrating to stock products that stay on the shelves for ages till they expire. Research the products and know what sells and what does not. Since farmers are sceptic to unfamiliar products, never stock them or stock as little as possible. That way loses won’t be incurred when product fails to sell.

Money makes the world go round. It’s the main factor to consider before setting up this business. This business requires a substantial investment for you to see profits. Therefore, it may not suit you if you have little money.

Accounting The number one cause of business failure is lack of financial accountability. Every shilling mattes in business that’s why you need to be meticulous with your accounts, especially if you don’t oversee the business daily. When some employees find a loophole to steal, they’ll do it like there is no tomorrow. Ensure every purchase is made with your knowledge. An effective way to keep accounts is through receipts. Ensure every customer has a receipt copy and that every purchase for the business has a receipt. Address any irregular cash flow immediately.

Maximize your peak season There are times when products sell very fast and in huge quantities. During planting seasons, most armers will want seeds and fertilizers. Stock the products early enough as during this season the prices tend to skyrocket. The farmers will buy from you at a reasonable price without making you incur any loses since you'd have bought your stock when prices were low.

The Olympics need no introduction.

It is the largest sporting event in the world, hosting over 200 countries’ greatest athletes and all of their supporters. This significant event usually takes some ample preparation. For the city lucky enough to host, they have to make sure that they can handle the large number of events and viewers that will flock to the city for the games. One concern over the years has been the logistics behind the games. Many extravagant stadiums and venues were created in the past, but after the games, these large stadiums go to waste and find themselves with no function or practicality. As the concern for global warming rises, the Olympics also have seen a lot of backlash regarding their practices. The 2024 Summer Games, hosted in Paris, France, hope to be the first giant step in the opposite direction. The organizers of the games plan for this to be the most sustainable and environmentally conscious Olympics ever.

To understand why a new path for the Olympics is needed, we must look into the past to see the cause of raised concerns. Looking back on the 2008 games, China spent around  43 billion  dollars on their stadiums. This is above the average since 2000, which is  21.2 billion . With these funds, China built some of the world’s most outstanding venues, including the “Bird’s Nest,” a state-of-the-art, 91,000-capacity stadium. The stadium hosted the opening and closing events, soccer games, and track and field events. While this event space has continued to boast thousands of visitors daily, it is the only one to remain in use since its creation.

Many other venues have lost their purpose and have gone unused  since the games . This is known as an “Olympic hangover.” Single cities trying to accommodate a large influx of tourists and then trying to repurpose the venues after the fact has caused struggles that are hard to overcome. Beijing isn’t the only city that has dealt with this. The greatest economic example can be found in Montreal, Canada. After the 1976 Winter Games, Montreal was left with a bill of  1.4 billion dollars , much higher than the expected costs of 250 million. It took the city  30 years  to pay off all of the debt. Like Beijing, it was also left with a  large stadium  needing new functions. These trends happen at every Olympics. Paris 2024 looks to change the status quo. 

The Paris Olympics plans to use fewer resources and be more environmentally friendly than any Olympics before. The  goal  is to keep the emissions lower than half of what was recorded at the London games in 2012. One way to reach this goal is to work on the energy supply. Diesel fuel is the most typical fuel supply for sporting events. Working with companies like EDF, Paris plans to offer  100% renewable  electric energy to power the games. Another way to combat the emissions has been to repurpose  older structures  rather than build new stand-alone structures. The  pool  from the 1924 Olympics is being repurposed and will be used for the games.  95%  of the buildings used are either already built or temporary structures. The city has planted many trees for the past few years to offset more environmental impact. They also plan to buy carbon credits to offset all the emissions that they produce. Another big thing that Paris is looking to change is transportation during the Olympics. Another global edge blog,  Paris’s Parking Price Surge  by Paris Carter, details how they are trying to push the public closer to sustainable transportation. In partnership with Toyota and TMH France, they have also promoted using electric vehicles when it comes to working vehicles.  Toyota  supplies forklifts, and  TMH  sponsors the use of battery-powered pallet trucks.

Overall, this could be a massive step in legitimizing the process of significant sporting events. These international or domestic events are some of the most critical times of the year for marketing, revenue, and brand awareness. If the Paris Olympics can show an excellent example of sustainable practices, it would be a significant first step towards a new norm.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reaffirmed that he wouldn't accept any plan for his nation to cede territory to Russia in a bid to end the war, dismissing an idea that former President Donald Trump is reported to favor.

"If the deal is that we just give up our territories, and that's the idea behind it, then it's a very primitive idea," Zelenskyy said in an interview with Axel Springer media outlets. "I think if he really has a formula and an approach on how to end the war quickly. I need very strong arguments. I don't need a fantastic idea. I need a real idea, because people's lives are at stake."

Zelenskyy has long refused a land swap to end the war, but his renewed opposition has come after The Washington Post reported that Trump privately favored a long-shot deal that would require Ukraine to give control of Crimea and the Donbas border region to Russia.

The former president has publicly boasted that his dealmaking prowess would allow him to broker an end to the war within a day of taking office. If Trump would champion such a plan, it would mark a major departure from President Joe Biden's foreign policy .

In a statement to the Post, Trump's campaign cast doubt on any claims that the former president had formulated a way to end the war.

Zelenskyy cautioned that in talks about ending the war, Russian President Vladimir Putin couldn't be trusted.

"We are dealing with Putin. Everything he has said so far, he has done differently," Zelenskyy said. "That means we can't trust him. I mean, the idea has to be such that it leaves Putin no room. No room to carry out his plans. Do you understand? He has to be backed into a corner, so to speak, so that he can't improvise. You can agree on all sorts of things. The question is whether he keeps to the agreements."

Trump has pushed GOP lawmakers to reject a $95.3 billion bipartisan Senate aid package that would give aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.

Zelenskyy said he remained optimistic that the Congress would pass additional assistance, but it remains unclear how Speaker Mike Johnson will move forward. Some Republicans, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, have threatened to oust Johnson if he moves to grant more aid to Ukraine.

Trump has floated the possibility of extending a loan to Ukraine, though in May, he refused to say during a CNN town hall whether he'd want Russia or Ukraine to win the war.

His position has put him in opposition to figures such as Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell who favor a more Reagan-era interventionist foreign policy. McConnell has made fighting for Ukraine aid one of the last major focal points of his decades in Congress.

Zelenskyy told Axel Springer that Trump was interested in the Ukrainian leader's invitation to visit his nation. Biden went in February 2023.

"We said that we would like Donald Trump to come to Ukraine, see everything with his own eyes, and draw his own conclusions," Zelenskyy said. "In any case, I am ready to meet him and discuss the issue. This issue is very important for us."
