About the position

Graduate research assistantship, Louisiana State University, $30,667 per 12 months Dr. Crystal N. Johnson in the Louisiana State University Department of Environmental Sciences is seeking 1 Ph.D. student interested in conducting a collaborative microbiome study. Mastery of methods such as real-time PCR, metagenomics, and bioinformatics is highly valued. The project will include some field work in Louisiana (10%), work in a BSL-2 laboratory (70%), and work on local and remote computers (20%). The student will be responsible for supervising up to two undergraduate researchers. Successful candidates will likely have a GPA of at least 3.0, prior laboratory experiences, and mastery in preparatory courses, such as microbiology, molecular biology, introductory statistics, and computational biology. Applicant must be mature, responsible, capable of thinking critically and working independently, meticulous, and highly attentive to detail. Some field collections will be urgent (e.g., less than 24 hours notice) and will include occasional weekends. The candidate will have a bachelor's or master's degree in a science field.

The Opportunity:

The Coordinator of Residence Life and Education is a live-in, full-time professional staff member for the Department of Housing and Residence Life. The Coordinator of Residence Life & Education is responsible for the daily operations of a residential community, including: student staff supervision, community development, building management, student outreach and support, crisis response, and coordination of administrative processes.

This position must maintain full-time residency in a University housing-owned or housing-affiliated/managed facility. Must be available for irregular hours, extended workdays, on-call emergencies, and weekends.

This position is designated as critical personnel in case of a disaster or critical event, and will be required to remain on campus to assist with emergency situations.

This is a reposted position. Previous applicants are still being considered and do not need to reapply.

Responsibilities:

Supervise, train, and evaluate graduate and undergraduate student staff through weekly staff meetings, regular one-on-one supervision meetings, as well as performance management and formal accountability processes.

Provide support and appropriate referrals to students regarding their academic, social, and personal wellbeing. Provide expedited outreach and follow-up for students of concern, and mediate interpersonal conflicts as needed.

Design and implement residential engagement initiatives to support student success, well-being, and belonging in accordance with departmental outcomes.

Advise an area council of student leaders in the development of community-building and residential advocacy initiatives.

Serve as a conduct hearing officer/administrator for assigned community, campus security authority, and responsible employee for reporting purposes.

Coordinate opening and closing operations for assigned residential community at designated times of year.

Manage day-to-day maintenance and facility issues with appropriate maintenance, facilities, and custodial staff, execute regular key/access audits, and conduct appropriate follow-up on community-specific facilities issues.

Manage and reconcile spending of community budget.

Actively contribute to departmental collaterals, committees, task forces, and work groups as directed.

Attend departmental meetings and departmental ongoing training and development opportunities.

Maintain visibility and presence within the assigned community, serving as a positive role model for staff and students.

Serve in departmental on-call rotation and coordinate response to crisis. Provide on-scene, after-hours on-campus response.

Perform other appropriate duties as assigned by Department of Housing & Residence Life personnel.

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor's and 2+ years of relevant experience or Masters degree and 0+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6) . 

Preferred Qualifications :

Master's degree earned by start date.

Prior Housing & Residence Life experience at the graduate or professional level.

Supervision and/or co-supervision experience.

Previous experience advising or co-advising student leadership organizations.

Experience with StarRez, Maxient, and/or eRezLife databases.

On-call/crisis response experience.

Conduct/hearing officer experience.

The Department of Radiation Oncology is hiring Assistant Clinical Research Coordinators to support the clinical research of several faculty physicians. This is a unique opportunity to receive mentorship from faculty on the cutting edge of radiation oncology, work closely with research teams to produce world-class clinical research, and gain insight into academic medicine.

The Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator will perform administrative support duties related to the collection of clinical data and/or the coordination of clinical studies. General administrative support for the faculty, including managing calendars, scheduling meetings, and answering phone calls, is also required. The Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator will work under the direction and supervision of the faculty physician and radiation therapy division manager.

Duties include*: 

Research Duties (50%): 

  • Collect patient information by reviewing electronic medical records and organize data for analysis in retrospective research studies.
  • Interface with patients in order to administer research questionnaires.
  • Perform telephone or in-person interviews to gather data. Call patients for reminders or other requirements.
  • Correspond with the Institution Review Board and the Cancer Clinical Trials Office in order to open, close, and renew research studies, register new patients consented for clinical studies, and assist adverse event and case report forms.
  • Perform clerical duties in the preparation of regulatory documents. Maintain all forms and documents, including consent forms and master subject logs. File all appropriate correspondence.
  • Assist in the preparation and publication of research abstracts and manuscripts by working with biostatisticians, residents, and faculty to analyze completed data and write up research findings.
  • Consent patients for blood draws in prospective research studies. May be required to prepare, process, and ship specimens and samples accurately under well-defined requirements.
  • May work closely with and assist the Clinical Research Coordinators on prospective trials.

Non-Research Duties (50%) 

  • Schedule meetings and interviews for faculty, update calendars, and reserve meeting locations.
  • Arrange travel in compliance with department, university, and sponsor policies. 
  • Answer phone calls from patients and hospital support staff and forward to scheduling team and new patient coordinators. Communicate patients’ concerns or questions to nurses and faculty.
  • Submit expense reimbursements for faculty.
  • Renew memberships and journal subscriptions for faculty.
  • Assist in billing patients and insurers by filling out relevant documents.
  • Retrieve and send faxes and routine correspondence regarding patient information and deliver scans to nurses.
  • Send emails to team members, hospital staff, and faculty. Respond promptly to email correspondence.

*- Other duties may also be assigned.

  • Four year college degree in a related field.
  • Prior clinical or research experience, including undergraduate experience.

  • Organization, independence, and attention to detail.

Job Description

Responsibilities include teaching, research, and service on a 40%-40%-20% ratio. The University offers opportunities for research support. All positions are initially for a three-year term with the possibility of renewal. 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach postgraduate courses in our M.Sc. in Educational Leadership program (one of 3 specializations: Inclusive Education; Higher Education; and School Education), or our M.A. in Multilingual Education program, and/or our PhD in Education program, depending on strengths and experience. Supervision of student thesis work is also required. Applicants who are confident in teaching advanced quantitative methods in educational research are especially welcome to apply.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

For Assistant Professor

● PhD in an appropriate discipline from a recognized international university (ABD at time of application will be considered, but PhD must be in hand at the time of appointment, and current PhD holders will be given priority);

● A demonstrated record of research and at least 1 high-quality journal publication;

● Teaching experience at the university level (experience in postgraduate programmes will be given priority);

● Excellent intercultural communication and collaboration skills;

● Commitment to maintaining a collegial and inclusive work environment;

● Commitment to making a difference to the School, University, and wider society.

For Associate Professor

All criteria above, plus:

● A demonstrated record of research and high-quality publications appropriate to rank in the past 5 years;

● Experience of successful research grant application;

● Experience in developing new courses and programme curricula;

● Experience in supervising Master’s and PhD student thesis research.

For Full Professor

● Experience of leading research projects, preferably with international teams;

● Experience in leadership positions at departmental or School/Faculty level;

● Experience in mentoring emerging researchers

Position Summary:

The Creating Higher Aspirations and Motivations Project/Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (CHAMP/GEAR UP) works with 6th-12th grade students in the Camden City Public School District. The goal of the program is to provide participants with skills and support to successfully graduate from high school and to succeed in higher education.

This position is responsible for program activities at the university, in the schools and community. Program activities include workshops, individual and group academic, and career advisement, providing information on post-secondary opportunities, assisting participants complete secondary education applications and financial aid forms.

The position requires the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with students in grades 6 through 12.
  • Screen and select applicants for program eligibility                                                        
  • Assess participant's potential for post-secondary educational, tutorial and career related needs and conduct individual and group advisement sessions. 
  • Maintain individual participant records.
  • Provide information on career fields, choosing career goals, selecting college majors and scheduling courses.
  • Assist participants in choosing a post-secondary institution to attend.
  • Provide technical assistance with completing financial aid and college applications.
  • Conduct workshops for participants on topics related to success in secondary education.
  • Participate in staff development and in-service training meetings.
  • Chaperone Trips
  • Participate in institutional and community committees.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to university policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as required to achieve program goals and objectives.

Education Requirement:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience on a year for year basis.

Experience Requirement:

  • One (1) year of relevant professional-level work experience, preferably working with underrepresented and first generation students in 6th-12th grades.

License Requirement:

  • Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Strong written, and oral communication skills, including public speaking and listening skills
  • Strong interpersonal and human relations skills
  • Knowledge of academic counseling, educational opportunities, and financial aid
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) a plus

Salary: 

  • Range P18 ($52,513-$59,694)
  • This is a grant-funded position that is contingent upon the availability and appropriation of adequate special funds. If these funds are not available, the position, by necessity, will be terminated.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of the Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) and Principal Investigators, the Clinical Research Coordinator will conduct clinical research studies (industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated) within the Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) Department of Ophthalmology in adherence with assigned study protocols and manuals of operation and in accordance with clinical research principles.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the contact person for those interested in study participation and assist with recruitment activities including pre-screening electronic medical records for eligibility, contacting potential subjects, explaining all study procedures, and consenting eligible subjects or assenting parents or guardians for children enrolled in research studies.
  • Coordinate day-to-day aspects of study related procedures, including, but not limited to scheduling visits and procedures, data entry, preparing for research visits, research visit documentation, maintenance of regulatory binders and study files, creation and/or maintenance of source documentation, preparation for monitoring visits, site initiation/closeout visits and audits as needed.
  • Be able to coordinate and perform research testing and imaging for clinical research studies including but not limited to visual acuity, refraction, dark adaptation, visual field, microperimetry, fluorescein angiography, fundus photography, optical coherence tomography (OCT), ICG angiography, slit lamp photography, MP1, corneal mapping, specular biomicroscopy including confocal imaging, HRT Analyzer (glaucoma), and ERGs.
  • Be able to administer surveys, such as the National Eye Institute Vision Function Questionnaire (NEI-VFQ-25), EuroQOL-5 Dimension, Reading speed, Health Utilities Index.
  • Work with the research team and ocular photography department to ensure that all required eye exams and ocular testing are scheduled and completed according to protocol.
  • Obtain and maintain study certifications for ETDRS, OCT, and photography for clinical trials.
  • Obtain access to sponsors’ electronic data capture (EDC) systems, complete EDC trainings, and enter data into the EDC within 5 days of seeing the study patient.
  • Maintain and organize study-related documentation and records using the EDC platforms, including capturing adverse events and serious adverse events and preparing for monitoring visits.
  • Respond to all sponsor-related queries in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that all aspects of Good Clinical Practice are followed at all times by developing and ensuring adherence with Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for clinical studies being conducted in the Ophthalmology Clinical Trials Unit.
  • Work with the Regulatory Manager to gain CUIMC Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval in a timely manner by creating informed consent forms using sponsors’ templates, responding to IRB correspondents, submitting amendments, renewals, modifications, and other regulatory documents required by the sponsor and FDA, including progress reports.
  • Ensure that all appropriate Institutional, State, and Federal regulations are followed throughout the course of the study according to study-related protocols and manuals.
  • Work directly with sponsors’ designated Clinical Research Organizations (CRO) to complete all required study start-up documents including FDA 1572 forms, investigator signatures, CVs, medical licenses, Conflict of Interest, HIPAA, and Human Subjects Trainings in a timely manner.
  • Complete feasibility forms requested by sponsors in a timely manner to assess ophthalmic equipment and examination rooms to conduct the studies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus minimum of 1 to 2 years of related experience.
  • Conform to all applicable HIPAA, billing compliance and safety requirements.
  • Must be able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Prior research experience to include recruiting study participants, conducting standardized protocol visits and data entry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail required.
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel) required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel to different sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Spanish
  • Phlebotomy license
  • Prior experience in ophthalmology
