• When you come across any difficult or new word then immediately stop and read about its meaning in detail. Relate those words as per your own understanding. Re- iterate the meaning of the passage to know if you are in alignment with what is written in the essay, correctly.
• Be okay with breaking your flow of reading in hunt of vocabulary but pick up where you left off. It is very important to grasp the meaning of each passage in order to understand the summary. Be disciplined to read an essay every day with myriad topics and try to broaden your horizon.
• Finally, write each vocab word in your notebook along with its meaning, example sentences too if required. Keep on revisiting those words to remember them.

• Ensure you complete 1 topic in 15days i.e. from beginners to advanced level. For e.g. take up Arithmetic and study from Mon – Fri for 2 weeks and sat-sun is only for Consolidation.
• Re-iteration Process- Post completing a topic analyze and observe the level of difficulty and frequency of the question in previous years and then sit with topics that need your attention.

RESOURCES : Resources/Books/Reading material etc. are like your weapons so chisel them and sharpen them as much as you can in order to make your attack successful. Here are some methods of keeping them:

• Always keep books from a coaching center. CATKing has Bibles for beginners to advanced levels of Difficulty.
• These books should be from in the form of online mode only as the aspired exam is in online mode.
• Take Real CAT mocks and do the Analysis. We recommend taking CATKing mocks as here every mock is solved by CAT topper and curated by alumni of the same college that is setting the paper so that line of sight is maintained that way.
• Do not give mocks that demotivate you drastically.

• Every day 1hr of self-study is a must.
• For April/May/June: Take up 2hrs of studies in total daily (1hr coaching+ 1hr self-study)
• For July/Aug/Sept: Increase studying to 4hrs daily (1hr coaching+ 3hrs self-study)
• For Oct-Nov: Turn the world upside down for minimum 6-8hrs of study daily (2hrs coaching+ 6hrs self-study).
• For Office Going chaps: Start with 1hr of study before Office and 1hr after office then gradually increase up to 2hrs for time being, daily.

CAT DI LR started becoming markedly tougher from CAT 2015 onwards. Till CAT 2014, we knew where DI ended and LR began. These days, we find two growth rates with percentages and suddenly we have missing numbers in a grid that we have to puzzle out. 13-14 correct answers would have fetched one a score of ~99.5th percentile in CAT 2015, CAT 2016, 2017, CAT 2018 or CAT 2019. We saw a pattern change in CAT 2020 and CAT 2021 due to the pandemic. 10-11 questions correct will fetch you 99+ percentile.

In a classroom course, the question is created, the idea transmitted are by different groups and then the teacher usually delivers to this script. You must do a thorough research on the following to find a good Online Course: 1) It has to be modularized so that you can learn at your pace. 2) It has to be on a very good LMS (Learning Management System) that will give you sound analytics and helps you both to learn and to assess where you are. 3) A chance to check out large sections of the course that is available in the course UI, not merely on Youtube channel. Of course, the answer is YES and you can crack CAT by preparing from August onwards. And it’s even possible when you begin from September 15ᵗʰ too. Always remember that the Quality matters more than Quantity. Finding 400 hours from somewhere and prepare feverishly in those 400 with good quality will suffice which will end up getting a decent percentile. This Question can be answered in 2 parts: Making CAT Preparation Enjoyable: • First of all remember that CAT exam tests basic intelligence of class VIII, IX and X level in a standardized format. • There is Myth that says “Engineers have an advantage in CAT exam” but the actual scenario is that this exam gives Engineers absolutely no advantage and moreover the discrimination is against Engineers at every stage. One should start your CAT preparation by starting to understand that CAT tests at max high school math, common sense and reading habit. • Prepare from first principles so that your basics become automated. • Don’t just Wander around, don’t learn in a straitjacket. • Be relentless - this is a marathon testing your temperament and not a sprint. • Dont merely plan which is the easiest part, execute the damn thing. • Read a lot with variety and read it all the time. There are students who attempted 29 questions out of 34 in Verbal Section and ended with 77ᵗʰ percentile, while there have been also been students with just 28 attempts ending upwards of 99.xxᵗʰ percentile. And the reason behind this is accuracy, which matters a lot. Speaking about accuracy and students often end up with the “The last two choices problem”. That is students narrow it down to two choices in the VARC section and then end up choosing the one which they think is the right one. In the similar way they take chances in these questions but do not take sufficient effort to resolve this. The common mindset we often see is “It will be either of the two. If I attempt 10 questions like this, I will get 5 right. Let me not waste any more time and mark the one you think it’s right.” This line of thought in most of the cases is incorrect. The guys setting the exam paper have planted something in either choice B or choice D that will make it easy to eliminate that and locating that thing will be the key. This is an objective paper with one correct answer per question. When you practice mocks, fight against that last step resistance and work aggressively on improving accuracy will help you master this section. It is a common myth that reading speed and vocabulary are important for VARC while they both count for nothing. • How many attempts does a CAT have? There is no limit for the CAT exam candidates to the number of attempts of giving the exam. A candidate can appear unlimited time throughout his / her entire lifespan. But the candidates should have some criteria for the candidate to hold a minimum of 50 % marks or equal to no CGPA or grade in Graduation.
• Is calculator allowed in CAT? Yes – a calculator is allowed in the CAT exam. But this does not mean that you can carry your own calculator in the exam. You will be allowed to use an on-screen calculator on your computer.
• Is GK asked in CAT? While GK or Business GK has not been part of the CAT testing, it is very important for an aspirant to be comfortable with these. Other examinations – like the XAT – have a section on GK. Barring that, the preparation for CAT does not end with giving the CAT examination.

How to Prepare for CAT VARC 2024 : Strategies & Tips

The CAT Verbal-Ability and Reading Comprehension is the first Section of the CAT Exam. The VARC section has the highest weightage in the CAT Exam, as 24 out of 66 questions belong to this section. CAT VARC 2024: Exam Pattern

VARC Section has the highest weightage in the CAT Exam. The VARC Section for CAT consists of 24 questions, out of which 16 questions are based on Reading comprehension and 8 questions are based on Verbal Ability. Out of these 8 Questions of the Verbal Ability, 4 are TITA (Type in the text) Questions, which have no negative markings. You can aim to score well in this section if you have good comprehension skills. Scoring well in this section may eventually boost one’s overall score in the CAT Exam.

CAT VARC 2024: Syllabus

The CAT Exam does not have a defined syllabus. Hence there is no prescribed syllabus for CAT’s VARC Section. The section mainly consists of two sub-parts Particularly Known as Reading Comprehension and Verbal ability. Reading Comprehension Passages are asked from diverse genres. Some of the most commonly offered genres are Science, Politics, Psychology, Society & Culture, History, Abstract, Miscellaneous and Mixed Genres. Verbal Ability consists of questions, particularly in the form of Para-Jumble, Para-Summary, Odd One Out, and Fill in the Blanks.

Problems Faced In VAR C Section For CAT Exam

• The most common problem faced in the CAT VARC Section is Reading itself, as most of the aspirants generally don’t have a habit of Reading. That might sound silly and obvious. However, this is the case because for most of the CAT aspirants, English is not their native language, and they do not converse or write in the language frequently. Which eventually results in poor Comprehension Abilities. The solution to this problem is that you develop a reading habit. Read as much as you can and from as diverse topics as possible. It would be best if you familiarised yourself with topics of different nature and quality. Start by reading in easier language and gradually move towards more academic writing. However, most comprehensions in CAT can be solved if you have a dedicated reading habit.
• Having a poorer Vocabulary is another common problem faced by CAT aspirants in Verbal Ability And Reading Comprehension for CAT. Having a weak knowledge of vocabulary is a significant disadvantage in VARC. This is why it is recommended that you read frequently and mark the complex and unfamiliar words. Revising these words regularly will help you to enrich your vocabulary.
• The inability to understand the questions is another issue the aspirants face in their VARC preparation. It is seen that Reading Comprehension for CAT requires you to handle tricky questions which are to confuse the test-takers. It is crucial to read through them and answer perfectly. If you practice past year’s papers and familiarise yourself with the paper pattern, this problem can be resolved. CAT Reading Comprehension Strategy:

• Knowing the structure: Most of the Reading Comprehension passages follow a set structure. There is an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. One should look for the sentences that change the passage’s topic and note them in short. Highlight the essence of each topic, and what they are talking about.
• Identify keywords: Each passage must have certain keywords around the central idea of the passage, you must include marking such keywords in your reading comprehension strategy. As they may help you in answering the questions that will follow.
• While reading the passage, you can also try to predict what the author might say in the next paragraph. This may reinforce your understanding of the passage.
• Central idea: While reading always try to focus on the main idea of the passage. Do not focus much attention on the minor details of the paragraph. As the passages are full of fillers, ignoring them while reading would save you a lot of time in the end. This process is called skimming.
• Build a good vocabulary: The best way to enhance one’s vocabulary is by reading more and more and reading from diverse genres. By Reading enough comprehension passages and memorizing the meaning of difficult words, you will get better at RCs. Another way to go about developing vocab is by start learning the root words, as they will help you identify the meaning of the unknown words, then gradually move on towards antonyms and synonyms of complex/common words.

CAT Para-Jumble Strategy :

Para-Jumbles have been part of the CAT Verbal Ability Section for a long time. As the name suggests, here you are required to rearrange a set of jumbled sentences to form a coherent paragraph. To prepare Para-Jumble for CAT, focus on understanding the structure of a well-written paragraph, identifying logical connections between sentences through transitional words and the flow of ideas. Practice sample questions, strengthen your vocabulary and grammar skills and work on time management to become efficient in the Para-Jumble.

CAT Odd-One-Out Strategy :

CAT Odd-One-Out is almost similar to Para-Jumble. In Odd One Out questions, you are given a set of sentences, in which one Sentence is irrelevant and the rest of the sentences can be arranged to form a coherent paragraph. One can prepare for Odd One Out Similarly as Parajumble.

CAT Para-Summary Strategy :

In Para-Summary you are given a paragraph, you are required to read the paragraph and come up with summary for the provided passage. One should first read the paragraph carefully; and try to understand the paragraph. If you have not understood the paragraph,you might not be able to pick the right summary. Once you have understood the paragraph, create a logical order of events in your mind. The option which resonates the logical order of events of the passage is most likely to be the correct option. Another thing to note is that the correct option would not lack of some main event described in the passage, and would not contain any extra information.

CAT Para-Completion Strategy :

In CAT Para-Completion, you are given a sentence and a passage with few blanks in between. You need to choose the most suitable blank in which the given sentence can be placed, in a way that it makes logical sense.
