Essay on My Father (1000+ Words)

Typically, people speak of mother’s love and appreciation, and often overlook the father’s attention. Mother’s love is talked extensively around anywhere, in film, in series, and much more.

What we fail to recognize, though, is the power of a parent who always gets overlooked. My father is a gift which not many citizens see in their lives.

It’d be incorrect to assume that every dad is the perfect hero for his kids, and it is not the case. However, I will voucher for my dad without even any second thoughts until it comes to becoming an ideal man.

How different is my father?

As everyone wants to assume that their father is exceptional, so do me. However, this belief is not purely based on the passion I have for him but also on his character.

My father has a company and is very diligent in all facets of life. My father is one of those who told me to exercise still professionalism, no matter what kind of work I do.

Most notably, he has a pleasant disposition and always makes my mom laugh with his dumb shenanigans, and after 27 months of the relationship.

I totally enjoy this dumb side of him when he’s around his relatives. He does his hardest to satisfy all our desires, but he still retains strictness whenever the need arises.

My childhood memories about him are a stern, strict, or not very conversational man. He would crack its most funny jokes of Dad, and we’ll all laugh and smile.

He felt a persevering and robust sense of obligation for his own birth family and also his marital ones.

The meager paycheck that he always received would be shared between such two families, so when he was bad in currying favor or supporting himself, my father did not rise inside the ranks, so his profits remained very mirage until he passed.

This formally made us a low-income family, so our childhoods were thrifty, frugal, and austere. A little bit of money mattered a lot.

In spite of these limitations, my father has effectively prepared our futures. If his provident money was released during his retirement, he used the whole sum, plus a personal loan, to purchase a home and in the name of his young son. We had a roof above our heads and for the remainder of our days.

Why do I like my father?

Among the most amazing aspects of my father was the number of things he was involved in.

He’d spend hours from outside the tailor’s shop seeing him making shirts, and within a few months, he purchased himself the Singer sewing machine. From that day forward, all our clothing, along with the winter school uniforms, were sewn by him.

He taught himself carpentry and designed the sofa sets that we’ve been using for generations.

He got to learn dry cleaning and then after that, in winter, we did go to school smelling kerosene.

My father was a great chef, so he enjoyed the food. While my mother was immobilized by lymphatic TB, she must have prepared breakfast, lunch, or dinner for her family and in the morning until heading off to work.

Best of everyone, he was a talented guitarist, blessed with the vichitra veena. He had a Carnatic’ band’ of his own with such a flautist as well as a mridangam player.

Things I learned from my father

Slowly, I learned how much more of how I was influenced by who he is and. Like him, I’m never tired, so I’m always intrigued by everything else in my life.

I’m still interested in doing something positive or educational. I’m 2 two years younger now than he was while he died, so I began to learn how to play piano, appreciate search engine optimization, UX design, or drawing.

I heard from him every kindness is a frame of mind, not a wallet condition. The amount of nameless, faceless poor folks my father supported was long, which we heard only when he passed.

Never demeaning the recipients with such a handout, he encouraged them to reimburse at their pace and time but made saying they actually so, preserving their self-respect.

Without even talking about it, he taught me what something means to become a parent, and what it means to become a lifeless person.

My father as the source of motivation

I can proudly say that this was my father, who was the source of my inspiration since day one. In those other words, his outlook and personality influenced me together like a human.

About the same way, he still has a huge effect on the environment inside his own little ways. My father dedicates his spare time to have to take care of stray animals that encourage me to be doing the same thing.

My father has told me the essence of love in the shape of a rose that he gives to my mother every day without fail. This continuity and devotion encourage us all to handle them in the same manner.

All my experience in sports or vehicles, I’ve come from my dad. This is one of the few reasons why I want to be a cricket player in the future.

10 Lines on my father

  • He is a caring and obliging man who takes care of my whole family.
  • He is a talented engineer or a very hard-working individual.
  • He’s an articulate guy who answers all the questions smartly.
  • My father loves his own family, my mother, or every member of the family.
  • He retains a cordial relationship with our family, acquaintances, and colleagues.
  • He’s going to bring my sister or me to college or my mother for work every day.
  • Every day, he supports my younger sister in our studies and me.
  • He shows us proper manners , compassion, and the ethic of living.
  • My dad is my role model, and one day I want to be around him.
  • My father is, or is always, a huge inspiration to me.

My friendship with my father is summed up by a single occurrence. He wanted me to attend the IIT for becoming an engineer.

I decided to become a novelist, a career he disdained to have no future. Headstrong, in 1969, I left the train wherein my family moved via Delhi to Bombay even as the whistle sounded. I’ve been bent on enjoying my way of life.

My father, profoundly upset, cut me over without a country, saying that I should really help myself whether I was so optimistic about writing. But so did I, raising enough by writing night papers to cover my lease, college tuition, or food.

Six months later, my dad, moving via Delhi in December, met me to see how his powerful-headed son would do and saw that I had lived quite well without borrowing and asking. He was clearly swelled with pride.

My father hugged me, forgave me for one moment, used 400 rupees as a Christmas bonus to buy me utensils, a mattress, and other essentials.

Since that day on, he could happily say, “My son pursued his heart more than my head – see what a great job he did.”

My father plays an important role in the family. He is in fact considered as the head of the family. However, I feel that both father and mother have a distinctive role to play in bringing up their children. While on hand my mother has s soft heart, it is my father who shows courage and strength which his children will later on imbibe as their qualities. He can be firm at times, but be rest assured it is always for the benefit of the children.

Conclusion:

There is no doubt that my father’s role is vital in my life. His presence is vital for maintaining the balance and peace in my family. A father is the one who earns the badge of the stricter parent and whose denial of permission for anything means a lot to the children. My father has his personal online marketing business but he never insists any of his children to pursue a career in that same field so that we can take over after him. My father has over the years proven to be a person who has a very kind heart and I can boldly say that he is my best friend and my hero.

About My Father:

Appa was born in Coimbatore, the second son and third child in a family of 11 children. His father, my grandfather was a stern man, a respected civil engineer who worked for the colonial British government.

Appa attended the Rishi Valley School in Yercaud, founded on the learning philosophy of Jiddu Krishnamurthy. There he learned the value of discipline, respect for hard work, honesty, responsibility and constant learning. He studied electrical engineering at Banaras Hindu University and went on to join Voltas Limited’s air conditioning division. He worked there the rest of his life, and was regarded as brilliant and a genius.

My childhood memories of him are as a stern, strict and not very communicative man. He’d crack the most unhumorous Dad jokes and we’d all grimace and laugh dutifully.

He felt a deep and abiding sense of responsibility towards his own family of birth as well as his marital family. The modest salary he always earned would be divided between these two families, and since he was terrible at currying favour or promoting himself, he never rose within the ranks of Voltas and his income remained quite pathetic till he died. This officially made us a lower-middle class family and our childhoods were frugal, thrifty and austere. A little money meant a lot.

Despite these constraints, Appa planned our futures successfully. When his provident funds were released after his retirement, he used the entire amount, augmented by a bank loan, to buy a house in his two sons’ names. For the rest of our lives, we had a roof over our heads.

Why I like my father:

One of the most remarkable things about Appa was the number of things he was interested in. In Calcutta, he would spend hours outside a tailor’s shop watching him make clothes. After several months, he bought himself a Singer sewing machine. From then, all our clothes, including winter school uniforms, were stitched by him.

He taught himself carpentry — and constructed the sofa sets we used for decades.

He learned dry cleaning — and from then, we would go to school smelling of kerosene in winter.

He was an outstanding cook, and loved cooking. When my mother was immobilized with lymphatic TB, he’d cook breakfast, lunch and dinner for the family in the morning before leaving for work.

Best of all, he was a brilliant musician, gifted in playing the vichitra veena. He had his own Carnatic ‘band’ with a flutist and a mridangam player.

Things I Learned from My Father:

I have slowly realised how much of who I am was shaped by who he was. Like him, I never get bored, and remain fascinated by everything in life. I’m constantly active doing something constructive or educational. I am today two years younger than he was when he died but have started learning to play piano, understand search engine optimisation, UX design and painting.

I learned from him that generosity is a state of mind, not a state of wallet. The number of nameless, faceless poor people he had helped was long, as we learned only after he died. Never demeaning his beneficiaries with a handout, he invited them to repay at their time and speed, but made sure that they did, thus restoring their self-respect.

Without ever speaking about it, he has shown me what it means to be a father, and the meaning of selfless living.

A single incident sums up my relationship with my dad. He wanted me to join the IIT and become an engineer. I wanted to be a writer, a profession he disdained as having no future. Headstrong, in 1969, I stepped out of the train in which my family was relocating from Delhi to Bombay just as the whistle blew. I was bent on living my life my way.

My father, deeply upset, cut me off without a paisa, saying I could jolly well support myself if I was so confident about writing. And so I did, earning enough through writing for the evening papers to pay my rent, college fees and food. Six months later, my father, passing through Delhi in December, visited me to check how his strong-headed son was doing, and saw for himself that I was surviving well enough without borrowing or begging. He visibly swelled with pride.

He hugged me, in one action forgiving me but also forgiving himself. He used the 400 rupees he had received as a Christmas bonus to buy me utensils, a mattress, and other basics.

From that day, he would proudly say, “My son followed his heart rather than my head — and see what a fine job he has done.”

35 fatherhood quotes that honor the special role dads play

A father holding two toddler children on a meadow outdoors in autumn.

Whether it's Father's Day or just a day that ends in "y," dads deserve all the love.

Fatherhood quotes are a great way to show the men in your life just how much you care.

As William Shakespeare once said, “It is a wise father that knows his own child.”

On the topic of fatherhood, John Legend famously told Stephen Colbert on "The Late Show" in 2017 about his kids: "They didn’t do anything, they just exist and you love them completely, but it’s not built on anything other than their existence."

And Jimmy Fallon called becoming a father "the greatest thing that has ever happened to me."

Whether you want to honor your dad with a sweet quote to put in a card or need a little inspiration for yourself, here are 35 fatherhood quotes to enjoy from famous personalities, authors, poets and beyond.

  • “My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person: He believed in me.” — Jim Valvano

my father essay quotations

  • “To be the father of growing daughters is to understand something of what Yeats evokes with his imperishable phrase ‘terrible beauty.’ Nothing can make one so happily exhilarated or so frightened: it’s a solid lesson in the limitations of self to realize that your heart is running around inside someone else’s body." ― Christopher Hitchens, "Hitch 22: A Memoir"
  • “Fathering is not something perfect men do, but something that perfects the man.” — Frank Pittman

my father essay quotations

  • “A father is the man who can change a world he will not be part of by building the tiny human that is part of him.” ― Craig D. Lounsbrough
  • “One of the greatest lessons I learned from my dad was to make sure your children know that you love them." ― Al Roker

my father essay quotations

  • “When my father didn’t have my hand, he had my back.” ― Linda Poindexter
  • “We never know the love of a parent till we become parents ourselves.” ― Henry Ward Beecher
  • “The heart of a father is the masterpiece of nature.” ― Prevost Abbe, "Manon Lescaut"
  • “My dad was an incredibly brave man, completely dedicated to his family, with a love for all of us. If I can be half the dad he was to me then that will be an achievement in itself." ― Tom Daley
  • “Listen, there is no way any true man is going to let children live around him in his home and not discipline and teach, fight and mold them until they know all he knows. His goal is to make them better than he is. Being their friend is a distant second to this.” ― Victor Devlin
  • “One of the greatest titles in the world is parent, and one of the biggest blessings in the world is to be one.” — Jim DeMint
  • "Much of life, fatherhood included, is the story of knowledge acquired too late: If only I’d known then what I know now, how much smarter, abler, stronger, I would have been. But nothing really prepares you for kids, for the swells of emotion that roll through your chest like the rumble of boulders tumbling downhill, nor for the all-enveloping labor of it, the sheer mulish endurance you need for the six or seven hundred discrete tasks that have to be done each and every day." ― Ben Fountain
  • "I loved her, instantly. Of course, most parents love their children instantly. But I mention it here because I still find it a remarkable thing. Where was that love before? Where did you acquire it from? The way it is suddenly there, total and complete, as sudden as grief, but in reverse, is one of the wonders about being human." ― Matt Haig, "How to Stop Time"
  • "Saturday mornings, I’ve learned, are a great opportunity for kids to sneak into your bed, fall back asleep, and kick you in the face." ― Dan Pearce, "Single Dad Laughing"
  • “As fathers, we know that our children need our love and need our guidance and need our faith in them. We know that our children need from us what only we as fathers can provide them.” ― Hendrith Vanlon Smith Jr., CEO of Mayflower-Plymouth
  • “A father’s tears and fears are unseen, his love is unexpressed, but his care and protection remains as a pillar of strength throughout our lives.” — Ama H. Vanniarachchy
  • “I’m inspired by the love people have for their children. And I’m inspired by my own children, how full they make my heart. They make me want to work to make the world a little bit better. And they make me want to be a better man.” — former President Barack Obama
  • “Daddies don’t just love their children every now and then, it’s a love without end.” — George Strait, “Love Without End, Amen”

  • “A good father will leave his imprint on his daughter for the rest of her life.” — Dr. James Dobson, “Solid Answers”
  • “The call of fatherhood is in fact a call of sacrifice, not in some heroic sense where a father is lifted high on some glowing pedestal with all of his sacrifices held up to the awe of those around him. Rather, it is a call that will cost him all that he has, that will be absent of accolades, where rewards will be sparse, and where he will someday find himself having spent all, but in the spending have gained everything. And this is the glory of fatherhood.” ― Craig D. Lounsbrough
  • “Always a partner, a playmate and a teacher / Ready with a joke when times were sad” ― Nancy Sinatra, “It’s for My Dad”
  • “Dads are most ordinary men turned into heroes, adventurers, storytellers and singers of song.” — Pam Brown

Essay on my Father

It is believed that fathers bring a sense of comfort and safety to their daughters, something my father has always done for me. Many studies show that girls seek a partner who is similar to their father’s relationship with them, whether he was nurturing or powerful. Sons regard their fathers as role models who they emulate as they grow up.

My father has always encouraged me to follow my aspirations and pursue my passions, whatever the risks. He believes that in order to learn from errors, everyone must make them. In this way, fathers are renowned to be risk-takers. They aid in the development of problem-solving skills so that we can perform better.

There have been various preconceptions about how men are the breadwinners and mothers must take care of the house since the dawn of time. Mothers are now working and pursuing jobs in the evolving age of feminism, while fathers assist in the household. My father has always supported my mother’s job and admired her ability to reconcile work and family life. When she is preoccupied with work, he assists her with chores and even ensures that food is on the table. My father instilled in me the value of family, and I know that no matter what happens, my family will always be there for me.

Some fathers may appear to be tough and disciplined, this is because they want their children to learn how to function in the real world. Fathers have a critical part in their children’s development of relationships since they are influenced by how their father treats the family. My father has always regarded my brother and me as equals, and my mother has always been respected. They are a crucial element of ensuring a child’s mental well-being, just like mothers. Children continue to want to please their mothers and fathers. In difficult circumstances, they seek emotional and physical comfort from their fathers, and they look to their parents to inculcate a culture of discipline and structure in their lives.

Fathers also aid in the development of a child’s self-esteem. My father has taught me to be confident in who I am and to speak up for what I believe in. He has instilled in me the value of being genuine to myself. A father has a wide range of responsibilities, from providing for his family to ensuring the safety of his children.

Father’s Day is one such occasion to honor fatherhood and the impact that fathers have on our lives. It is to express gratitude to our fathers for everything they do for us on a daily basis. It takes place on the third Sunday of June. In 2021, Father’s Day was observed on June 20 th . The day is one of celebrating fatherhood and the many roles that fathers play in the lives of their children. Fatherhood, in this sense, is not just limited to actual fathers, but any father-figure who provides the comfort and support that fathers are known to give.

Fathers are one of our family’s most powerful figures. Every parent is a one-of-a-kind individual. They instill in us the values of dependability and compassion. Daughters feel safe and secure in the presence of their fathers, just like my father does for me. Sons aspire to be like their fathers and learn from their behavior. Fathers have an impact on who we make friends with and how we interact with others.

My father has always taught me the values of independence and bravery. By taking more chances in their life, fathers assist us in solving challenges. Fathers are no longer solely responsible for providing for their families. Many mothers work while their husbands assist them around the house and support them. My father has always admired my mother’s efforts and has offered her assistance around the house.

Fathers may appear to be tough, but they are always there for us. My father has always been a continual source of encouragement while also enforcing regulations to help me become more responsible.

He is a hero for me. I have loved to follow him since childhood. I feel great when I see my father and think about what he is doing. A couple of years ago, my village faced a huge flood. My father went there with a huge collection of food and medicine.

He worked there for almost a week and distributed them to villagers. He took the initiative on his own and worked very hard for that. I can remember, when he came back he was extremely tired. He loves to help people and work for society. He is connected with lots of social welfare groups too.

My Father as a Friend:

He is a good friend too. I can share all my things with him. From my childhood, I am sharing everything. And that has made everything easy between us. We don’t have any gap. He is always a smiling person and he loves to spend time with me.

It has made us closer. I also enjoy spending time with my dad. She shares different types of stories and moral things that help me to grow better. I have realized in my life that all of his words came true. That’s why I always obeyed him and I never regretted because of that.

Why Do I Like My Father?

There are so many reasons that are why I love him. First of all, he is my father and my best friend. He is the most important person in the family.

Whatever I am doing now is just because of him. He is a person with a smile and never a complaint. He supports everyone and gives the courage to fight against all odd things.

I love my father a lot. And it’s not possible to count the son’s love for his father. And I know my father also loves me a lot. I think he is the best dad ever.

Essay on My Father feature image

My father’s name is Mr. Deepak Nathani. He is fifty-nine years old. He owns a departmental shop and works there throughout day and night. He maintains good communication with his customers and provides everything with whatever they need.

He is a sincere and hardworking person since his childhood. He daily opens his shop in the morning at 8:30 and closes at 11 PM in the night. In his childhood, he was a studious student who used to score good marks in his examinations. He was a bright child and monitor of his class.

But, after some time due to some financial problems, he could not complete his studies but due to his sincerity, he has a good running business of his departmental store.

Every end of the month he goes wholesaler shops to buy the stock of materials he has to sell and comes late to home. He is an honest human being filled with kindness and gentle behaviour with everyone.

During the weekends he takes me to the park and being a sportive person he plays badminton with me. We enjoy a lot playing this game. Other than badminton, he knows to play other games too.

He was a distinction holder in mathematics in his class 12 th , so I always take his help whenever I face a problem in solving questions of mathematics. He is a creative person and makes good drawings so he helps me in making diagrams of science subjects.

He is an early morning person who has a habit of waking up early in the morning even before my mother. He makes the first tea of the day for my mother and besides that, he wakes me up too so that I should wake up and get ready for school.

Being a sportive person he loves to go on a walk and does power and jogging exercise to remain fit and healthy. Being a sincere person he well-disciplined too but some times does tricks to make me laugh and smile.

My father has the potential to provide a solution to the problems of everyone. He is a person who saves me all the time. He gives attention to everything I say very carefully and provides the best and appropriate solutions for it. He is a simple and sober person with patience to sacrifice and hold on to his anger.

On Sundays, he helps my mother in housework. Also, he guides me on how to keep the room clean.  He never forgets or misplaces his important documents. He is a simple person.

He likes to wear a simple white check shirt and black pants and sometimes he wears a t-shirt too. He loves to wear formal clothes and wear his black suits with a shirt matching tie on any occasion.

He does not like to wear expensive clothes or watches, even not food. He is an economical person who spends the least money on himself and does too much for his family.

He is an attractive personality because of his humor, the way he talks to people and manages everything. He does not like tight clothes. He spends his money wisely and makes a diary in which, he notes down all the expenses he has to make in a month.

He makes his budget and runs home with it. At the end of the month, he includes extra expenses or the expenditures that he has to make and plans his budget according to it. He is most important for me and my topmost priority.

He always encourages me to move on forward and do whatever I want. He never restricts me too much. He is like an open book to everyone who does not know how to hide his feelings and emotions.

He is a soft-hearted person and always ready to aid anyone in need of it. He believes the victory of good over evil, that I heard from the story of Lord Rama and Sita. Lord Rama killed Lord Ravana.

He never supports any wrong even that person tries so hard to be a lier. Still, he wins every time. He is a soft-spoken person who never speaks or shouts too loudly. He is the only reason I am strong and holds me before I even fall. I love him and proud to be his daughter.

Essay on My Father Thought it Bloody Queer, Simon Armitage

my father essay quotations

Summary In this poem, Armitage explores an incident when he had his ear pierced as a teenager, and his father’s shocked reaction to it. This poem is about coming of age, asserting your own identity, and seems to show he has a bad relationship with his father. Actually Armitage shows closeness to his father: he can easily create a sense of his father’s voice, which he does using  a lot of  colloquial language . Armitage takes the earring out, years later, feeling that there’s no need to be shocking now. The ear piercing is a rite of passage, or ordeal: the poet has hurt his own flesh which ‘weeps’. The physical wound links to his father’s upset – that his own flesh (his son) has done this. A* Analysis This is an essay written to help a student prepare for the OCR GCSE English Literature poetry exam. It’s not finished, and is about 350 words long – a side and a half of medium handwriting. Quotations are underlined. Technical terms are highlighted.

Question What does the poem tell us about relationships?

From the first words of the title , ‘My father’ shows that Armitage’s memory of his childhood, like the poem is dominated, looked over, by his father. The effect is intensified by the fact that the words ‘my father’ are  repeated in the first line .

As a teenager, the poet’s father is an authority figure. Armitage calls him ‘father’ which is formal and seems distant, commanding respect. However, his father uses colloquial language ‘lost your head’ ‘easily led’. These proverbial phrases are judgemental and don’t show real communication, which adds to the sense of distance. However, his son can almost read his father’s thoughts, which suggests a kind of closeness: ‘my father thought it bloody queer’. ‘bloody queer’ can’t be the way the poet would describe himself, as it seems too harsh and violent. It seems to fit with the colloquial , judgemental phrases that his father uses. The poet is close enough to his father to be able to ‘become’ him – for these lines in the poem. ‘queer’ is used to condemn something that doesn’t conform. The whole poem is about rebellion.

The first stanza has a regular rhyme scheme with aabbb ; however in the second stanza , the rhyme scheme starts to break down and seems irregular . This echoes the breakdown in authority or control as the poet rebels. In the final stanza , a kind of balance or compromise is reached, the first and last lines rhyme together (12,15), but the middle two are free, or unrhymed (13,14).

“Despite my metaphors, this muscle failure is not due to his old heart, he says, but to a potassium shortage.”

Paley’s story begins with the writer describing her father’s heart as a “bloody motor” that has grown too old to “do certain jobs” but “still floods his head with brainy light” (Paragraph 1). As soon as she has said this, however, the writer draws attention to the fact that her descriptions are just “metaphors”—figures of speech rather than literally accurate reflections of reality. This points to the story’s status as a form of metafiction and to its related interest in how we use language to make sense of the world around us. On that note, it is significant that the writer tempers her father’s medical account of his condition with the words “he says.” The implication is that the father’s description is simply another way of looking at his illness rather than the objective truth.

“I would like you to write a simple story just once more [...] the kind de Maupassant wrote, or Chekhov, the kind you used to write. Just recognizable people and then write down what happened to them next.”
