मैं ShoutMEhindi का रेगुलर रीडर हूँ. मुझे आपकी पोस्ट्स पढना काफी पसंद है. चाहे वो टेक्निकल हों या Motivational जैसे की यह post. अभी मैंने संदीप जी का कमेंट पढ़ा वो अपनी जगह ठीक हैं. पर संदीप जी कभी कभी होता यह है की जब हम ज्यादा टेक्निकल मटेरियल पढ़ लेतें है तो थोडा बोर सा फील करने लगते हैं और उस समय पर थोड़ी मोटिवेशन की जरुरत पड़ती है और मेरे ओपिनियन से लाइफ हैक सेक्शन वाली posts इसी का काम करती हैं. नितेश जी धन्यवास आपका बहुत ही अछि post थी.

जिंदगी में जीना है तो ऐसे जियो कि जैसे तुम्हें कल ही मरना है, लेकिन जिंदगी में कुछ भी सीखो तो ऐसे सीखो जैसे तुम हमेशा के लिए जिन्दा रहोगे।

हमें जो कुछ भी मिला है ज्यादा ही मिला है और यदि आपके पाँव में ब्रांडेड जूते नहीं है तो अफ़सोस मत कीजिये क्यूंकि दुनिया में कई लोग ऐसे भी हैं जिनके पाँव ही नहीं हैं।

जिसने कभी अपनी जिंदगी में गलती नहीं की उसने कभी कुछ नया करने की कोशिश नहीं की।

जब हमें बोलना नहीं आता था तो माँ समझ जाती थी, आज हम हर बात पर कहते हैं माँ तू नहीं समझेगी।

हमारा जन्मदिन हमारे जीवन का इकलौता दिन होगा, जिस दिन हमारे रोने पर भी हमारी माँ मुस्कुरायी होगी !

भगवान ने जिंदगी दी, माँ-बाप ने प्यार दिया और गुरु ने हमें ज्ञान दिया, इसे कभी मत भूलिए।

अपने सपनों को हमेशा जिन्दा रखिये, क्यूंकि अगर आपके सपनों की चिंगारी बुझ गई है, तो आप जीने के बाद भी मरने के समान है।

एक कुत्ता अपने मालिक के लिए एक जगह पर एक रास्ते के किनारे बैठा रहा 80 दिनों तक और एक कार एक्सीडेंट में वो मारा गया। इस दुनिया कुत्तो के अलावा एक भी ऐसा प्राणी नहीं जो इतने लॉयल है। इंसान भी नहीं !

अगर जिंदगी में कभी बुरा वक़्त नहीं आता तो अपनों में छुपे हुए गैर और गैरों में छुपे हुए अपनों का कभी पता नहीं चलता।

ये तीन मंत्र हमेशा याद रखना – आनंद में वचन मत दीजिये, क्रोध में उत्तर मत दीजिये, दुःख में निर्णय मत लीजिये।

हाथों की लकीरों पर ज्यादा विश्वास मत करो, क्यूंकि नसीब उनका भी होता है जिनके हाथ नहीं होते।

तारों में अकेला चाँद जगमगाता है, मुश्किलों में अकेला इंसान डगमगाता है, काटों से घबराना मत मेरे दोस्त क्यूंकि काटों में ही अकेला गुलाब मुस्कुराता है !

विकल्प मिलेंगे बहुत, मार्ग भटकाने के लिए, संकल्प एक ही काफी है, अपने मंजिल तक पहुँच ने के लिए।

जिंदगी में बड़ी शिद्दत से निभाओ अपना किरदार, कि पर्दा गिरने के बाद भी तालियां बजती रहे।

किसी डिग्री का ना होना दरअसल फायदेमंद है, क्यूंकि अगर आप डॉक्टर या इंजीनियर हैं तब आप एक ही काम कर सकते हैं, लेकिन बिना डिग्री के आप कुछ भी कर सकते हैं।

कमजोर लोग बदला लेते हैं, शक्तिशाली लोग माफ़ कर देते हैं, बुद्धिमान लोग नजरअंदाज कर देते हैं।

सफलता एक घटिया शिक्षक है, यह लोगों में यह सोच विकसित कर देता है कि वो असफल नहीं हो सकते।

भटकते भटकते मंजिल मिल ही जाता है, गुमराह तो वो हैं जो घर से निकले ही नहीं !

मुश्किलें हमेशा बेहतरीन लोगों के हिस्से में आती है क्यूंकि वो लोग ही उसे बेहतरीन तरीके से अंजाम देने की ताकत रखते है।

कभी कभी दूसरों को यह जताने की जरुरत नहीं कि आप उनसे बढ़िया है ये खुद की बेज्जती है।

4 आदतें – घमण्ड कभी मत करो, प्रोफेशनल लाइफ की प्रॉब्लम कभी पर्सनल लाइफ आने मत दो, पैसो के पीछे मत भागो, काम के पीछे भागो, बुरी आदतें छोड़ दो।

दोस्तों पैसे के पीछे कभी सफलता नहीं आती लेकिन सफलता के पीछे पैसा जरूर आता है, इसलिए कभी भी पैसे के पीछे मत भागो, बल्कि सफलता पाने के लिए भागो, क्यूंकि सफल होने के बाद आपके पास पैसे की कोई कमी नहीं होगी।

मजबूत होने में मजा ही तब है जब सारी दुनिया आपको कमजोर कर देने पर तुली हो !

बने रहिए सही रास्ते पर चाहे आप अकेले ही क्यों न हो !

पुरुष चुप रहे और पत्नी से बात न करे तो पत्नी में नकारात्मकता बढ़ जाती है और परस्पर दूरियां बढ़ती जाती है। दूरियां दूर करने के लिए परस्पर खुलकर बातचीत करनी चाहिए।

जो सुधार आप साथी या मित्र में चाहते हैं वो सुधार पहले स्वयं में लाएं। ऐसा कर लेंगे तो वह सुधार साथी या मित्र में स्वतः आ जाएगा।

विशाल समुंदर के तल में सीप की गोद में लेटा मोती तब तक धैर्य नहीं खोता जब तक उसे कोई गोताखोर बाहर निकाल नहीं देता।

चुपचाप बैठने से सिर्फ सुकून हासिल हो सकता है। बुलंदी पर पहुंचना है तो मेहनत कश को नींद गवानी होती है।

ख्वाब तो देखे बहुत, पर भुला ना सके उस ख्वाब को, जब मिली थी तुमसे पहली नजर, और आपके खुशनुमा अंदाज को।

हौसला बुलंद है तो वक़्त बदलते देर नहीं लगती।

लौट आएंगे बिछड़े कभी तुम्हारे एक बोल पर।

अद्भुत गाथा का श्रवण करने से मन प्रफुल्लित हो उठता है और जीवन प्रेरणा पा लेता है।

सब कुछ समेटने के चक्कर में कहीं अपने आप को ना खोना।

बिन प्रयास सफलता अधूरी है।

इरादा नेक तो रास्ते अनेक।

सच्चाई का बोध हर किसी को नहीं होता और जिसे होता है वह कभी कुछ नहीं खोता।

आज का प्रयास कल की सफलता।

इच्छा हमें कभी कभी उस और ले चलती है, जहाँ से वापस लौटना मुमकिन नहीं। अपनी इच्छाओं के वशीकरण से बचें और उसे संचालित करें।

नोटों के बिछोने पर नींद नहीं ठहरती ढूंढों अगर उसे तो पाओगे किसी किसी चटाई पर लेते गरीब के सिरहाने पर।

जब नफरत की आँधी उदा देती नींद सबकी, प्यार की मधुर धुन में लोरिया सुनाकर जिंदगी देती है थपकियाँ।

चालाकी ना करो उनसे जो प्रेम और आत्मीयता से सराबोर हैं।

फूलों की खुशबू कांटों की चुभन यही है जीवन के दो रंग।

फूट फूटकर रोने वाले, क्या खोया है जो तू लाया था। हाथ पसारे आया जग में तू, खाली हाथ ही जायेगा।

इंतजार करने में कोई बुराई नहीं अगर इसमें इंतजार करवानेवाले की कोई चतुराई नहीं।

अभ्यास से ना डरो और उसे उम्र भर करो।

पल पल यहाँ आते हैं सैकड़ों। कोशिश करके कुछ तो पा जाते है मंजिल, चमकते है पांच सितारों में। बाकी खो जाते है, गुमनामी के गलियारों में।

धनवान होना बड़े ही गर्व की बात है। धन जिसके पास है उसकी नहीं और कोई जात है। संचय धन का तुम भी करना लेकिन सिर्फ अपना पेट ही न भरना, उससे किसी का दुःख तुम हरना।

विफलता भूलों सभी, उसके कारण को मन में अंकित कर लो अभी, और भूल से भी उन्हें न दोहराओ कभी।

बेफिक्र होकर जीना सबको नहीं है आता, कोई डर के है जीता और कोई मर के भी मुस्कुराता।

खरीदने निकले हो सब कुछ पर प्यार कहीं बिकता नहीं अनमोल है प्यार की दौलत सभी को यह दिखता नहीं।

काश यह मैं करता काश यह हो जाता! ऐसी सोच ना तू कभी रखना वर्ना टूटेगा तेरा हर सपना। करना है जो तुझे वो तू कर अब ही कल का नहीं ठिकाना।

अपराध की मानसिकता से मुक्त होने के लिए अपनी गलती को मानना सबसे पहले जरुरी है।

मान-अपमान की भाषा से जो ऊपर उठ जाता है, और कोई नहीं बल्कि वही शिव कहलाता है।

परिश्रम प्रयास को सफलता बना देता है।

क्या सकारात्मक सोच-विचार से भी डिप्रेशन हो सकता है?

सकारात्मक सोच का कॉन्सेप्ट आजकल बहुत लोकप्रिय है, पर क्या अपना जीवन चलाने का ये सही तरीका है? यहाँ सद्‌गुरु समझा रहे हैं कि, होता ऐसे है कि आप चाहे नकारात्मकता को अनदेखा कर दें, पर वो आपको अनदेखा नहीं कर सकती!

सकारात्मक सोच क्या है?

आप इसे अनदेखा कर सकते हैं और सोच सकते हैं कि सब कुछ सही हो जाएगा - इसकी कुछ मनोवैज्ञानिक और सामाजिक सार्थकता हो सकती है पर अस्तित्व में इसकी कोई सार्थकता नहीं है। ये सिर्फ एक आश्वासन होगा। वास्तविकता को छोड़ कर अवास्तविकता की ओर जा कर आप अपने आपको कुछ आश्वासन दे सकते हैं क्योंकि कहीं न कहीं आपको यकीन है कि आप वास्तविकता को नहीं संभाल सकते। इसीलिये आप सकारात्मक सोच की तरफ झुक जाते हैं। आप नकारात्मकता को छोड़ना चाहते हैं और बस सकारात्मक सोचना चाहते हैं, या, दूसरे शब्दों में, आप नकारात्मकता को टालने की कोशिश करते हैं।

आप जिस किसी भी चीज़ को टालने की कोशिश करते हैं वो आपकी चेतना का आधार बन जाती है। आप जिस किसी भी चीज़ को टालने की कोशिश करेंगे वो और मजबूत हो जाएगी। जो भी जीवन के एक पहलू को खत्म कर के दूसरे पहलू के साथ रहने की कोशिश करते हैं, वो अपने लिये सिर्फ दुख ही लाते हैं।

दोहरा स्वभाव

सारा अस्तित्व दो ध्रुवों के बीच घटित हो रहा है। आप जिसे सकारात्मक और नकारात्मक कहते हैं, वो है - पुरुषत्व और स्त्रीत्व, प्रकाश और अंधकार, दिन और रात। इनके बिना जीवन कैसे घटित होगा? ये कहना वैसे ही है जैसे आपको मृत्यु नहीं चाहिये - आप सिर्फ जीवन चाहते हैं - ऐसा कुछ नहीं है। जीवन इसीलिये है क्योंकि मृत्यु है। प्रकाश इसीलिये है क्योंकि अंधकार है। बात बस ये है कि आपको नकारात्मकता को अपने ऊपर हावी नहीं होने देना चाहिये। हम दोनों को रहने दें और ये सुनिश्चित करें कि ये दोनों ही किसी भी तरह हमारे लिये उपयोगी हों, हमें कुछ दे सकें।

अगर आप जीवन को वैसे ही देखते हैं जैसा वो है, तो ये हमेशा ही एक समान मात्रा में सकारात्मक और नकारात्मक है। ये जैसा है वैसा ही अगर आप इसे देखें, तो आप पर न तो नकारात्मकता और न ही सकारात्मकता हावी हो पायेगी। चूंकि वे दोनों समान मात्रा में हैं इसीलिये सब कुछ वैसे ही हो रहा है, जैसे वो हो रहा है। इन दोनों का ही अच्छा प्रयोग कर के आपको वो बनाना चाहिये जो आप बना सकते हैं। प्रकाश का बल्ब इसीलिये जलता है क्योंकि बिजली में दोनों ही हैं - सकारात्मक और नकारात्मक! चूंकि हमें सकारात्मक परिणाम मिल रहा है तो हम नकारात्मक के बारे में चिंता नहीं करते। अगर कहीं पर कोई पुरुष और स्त्री हैं और उनमें से आनंद प्रकट हो रहा है तो हम चिंता नहीं करते कि वहाँ स्त्री है या पुरुष। पर, मान लीजिये कि वे दोनों कोई बहुत नकारात्मक परिणाम दे रहे हों तो हमें लगेगा कि ये दोनों समस्या हैं। सकारात्मक या नकारात्मक होना वास्तव में समस्या नहीं है, उनमें से अंतिम परिणाम क्या आता है बस यही सवाल है।

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Director of the Kansas City Chiefs Women’s Organization and wife of Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt, Tavia Hunt, took to social media Thursday night with a post sharing her thoughts on motherhood and married life following a controversial commencement speech from Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker.

“I’ve always encouraged my daughters to be highly educated and chase their dreams,” Tavia said in a post on Instagram. “I want them to know that they can do whatever they want (that honors God). But I also want them to know that I believe finding a spouse who loves and honors you as or before himself and raising a family together is one of the greatest blessings this world has to offer.”

The comments came five days after Butker gave a commencement speech at Benedictine College that touched on COVID, President Joe Biden’s policies, Pride month and the role of women and men in society.

At one point during the speech, Butker told the women he thought they’d had “the most diabolical lies” told to them.

“I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you,” Butker said. “Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.”

Hunt’s Instagram caption was accompanied by photos of her with her daughters Gracie and Ava.

“Studies show that committed, married couples with children are the happiest demographic, and this has been my experience as well,” Tavia said. “Affirming motherhood and praising your wife, as well as highlighting the sacrifice and dedication it takes to be a mother, is not bigoted.”

Tavia continued: “It is empowering to acknowledge that a woman’s hard work in raising children is not in vain. Countless highly educated women devote their lives to nurturing and guiding their children. Someone disagreeing with you doesn’t make them hateful; it simply means they have a different opinion.”

Butker also gave the commencement speech at his alma mater Georgia Tech in May 2023. In it, Butker said he had a “controversial anecdote” to young adults’ feelings of “loneliness, anxiety and depression.”

“Get married and start a family,” Butker told Georgia Tech graduates.

That message, Tavia Hunt endorsed on Instagram.

“Let’s celebrate families, motherhood and fatherhood,” she said, citing Proverbs 31:28. “Our society desperately needs dedicated men and women to raise up and train the next generation in the way they should go. Embracing the beautiful roles that God has made is something to celebrate.

“We need more dialogue in this country and less hate.”

The comments from Tavia Hunt are the only public comment from anyone in the Chiefs organization. The NFL distanced itself from Butker’s comments Thursday.

Breaking Down Harrison Butker's Speech: Read the Chiefs Player's Most Controversial Comments

Fans are calling for Harrison Butker to be removed from the Chiefs' roster for the upcoming NFL season after his 20-minute commencement speech at Benedictine College

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker 's commencement speech at Benedictine College, a Catholic school, continues to cause outrage.

The NFL player's 20-minute address included attacks on working women, the LBGTQ+ community and families who utilize surrogacy and in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Butker and the Chiefs did not immediately return PEOPLE's requests for comment. In a statement, the NFL’s Chief Diversity Officer Jonathan Beane says, "Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity. His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger.”

Former Kansas City commissioner Justice Horn went further, slamming Butker in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter). "Harrison Butker doesn’t represent Kansas City nor has he ever," he wrote . "Kansas City has always been a place that welcomes, affirms, and embraces our LGBTQ+ community members."

Rapper Flavor Flav chimed in, "Sounds like some players 'need to stay in their lanes' and shouldn’t be giving commencement speeches."

Writer Cyd Zeigler wrote , "Pretty awful to hear an NFL player so proudly tell women to 'stay in their lane,' serve their man and make babies. Not to mention comparing Pride month to a 'deadly sin' and lobbing bombs at the trans community. Not a fan."

Amid the backlash, below is a breakdown of Butker's most controversial comments from the speech.

On Taylor Swift's Lyric

A portion of the outrage against Butker came from supporters of Taylor Swift after he shared one of her lyrics, which fans noticed he misinterpreted.

Butker quoted a lyric from Swift's 2022 song "Bejeweled," and referred to her as his teammate, Travis Kelce 's girlfriend.

"As my teammate's girlfriend would say, familiarity breeds contempt," Butker said when discussing the values of the Catholic Church.

What seemed to have been lost on Butker, however, is that the song's message is about Swift embracing her independence away from a former boyfriend.

On the Covid-19 Pandemic and President Joe Biden

At the start of his speech, Butker addressed how the class of 2024 was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic at the start of their college careers. The subject quickly transitioned into attacks on President Joe Biden and topics such as abortion, IVF, surrogacy and euthanasia.

"I'm sure your high school graduation was not what you had imagined and most likely neither was your first couple years of college. By making it to this moment through all the adversity thrown your way from COVID, I hope you learned the important lesson that suffering in this life is only temporary," he said. "As a group, you witnessed firsthand how bad leaders who don't stay in their lane can have a negative impact on society."

Butker went on: "Bad policies and poor leadership have negatively impacted major life issues. Things like abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as a growing support for degenerate cultural values in media, all stem from the pervasiveness of disorder. Our own nation is led by a man who publicly and proudly proclaims his Catholic faith, but at the same time is delusional enough to make the sign of the cross."

The Chiefs kicker continued his verbal attack on Biden, saying, "During a pro-abortion rally, he has been so vocal in his support for the murder of innocent babies that I'm sure to many people it appears that you can be both Catholic and pro-choice."

"This is an important reminder that being Catholic alone doesn't cut it. These are the sorts of things we're told in polite society to not bring up. The difficult and unpleasant things. But if we are going to be men and women for this time in history, we need to stop pretending that the 'Church of Nice' is a winning proposition. We must always speak and act in charity, but never mistake charity for cowardice."

He continued: "As members of the church founded by Jesus Christ, it is our duty and ultimately privilege to be authentically and unapologetically Catholic."

On LGBTQ+ Pride

Butker then turned the focus of his speech to the Catholic values at Benedictine College. However, his sentiments attacked the LGBTQ+ and trans communities.

Butker said, "Benedictine has gone from just another liberal arts school with nothing to set it apart to a thriving beacon of light ... I'm certain the reporters at the AP could not have imagined that their attempt to rebuke and embarrass places and people like those here at Benedictine wouldn't be met with anger, but instead met with excitement and pride, not the deadly sin sort of pride that has an entire month dedicated to it, but the true God-centered pride that is cooperating with the Holy Ghost to glorify him."

On IVF and Surrogacy

Butker later attacked families who utilize IVF and surrogacy to have children, saying, "It is imperative that this class, this generation, in this time in our society must stop pretending that the things we see around us are normal."

"Heterodox ideas abound, even within Catholic circles. Let's be honest, there is nothing good about playing God with having children, whether that be your ideal number or the perfect time to conceive. No matter how you spin it, there is nothing natural about Catholic birth control. It is only in the past few years that I have grown encouraged to speak more boldly and directly because as I mentioned earlier, I have leaned into my vocation as a husband and father and as a man."

On Working Women

In a direct address to the female graduates at Benedictine, Butker said, "For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you."

"Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world."

Of his spouse, Butker said, "I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabelle, would be the first to say that her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and as a mother. I'm on this stage today and able to be the man I am because I have a wife who leans into her vocation. I'm beyond blessed with the many talents God has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all of my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school, who would convert to the faith, become my wife and embrace one of the most important titles of all: homemaker."

He continued, "I say all of this to you because I have seen firsthand how much happier someone can be when they disregard the outside noise and move closer and closer to God's will in their life. Isabelle's dream of having a career might not have come true, but if you asked her today if she has any regrets on her decision, she would laugh out loud without hesitation and say, heck no."

Several users on social media have pointed out , however, that Butker's mother, Elizabeth Butker, is a successful physicist at Emory University's Department of Radiation Oncology.

On Masculinity

Moving his focus to the male graduates in the room, Butker said, "To the gentlemen here today, part of what plagues our society is this lie that has been told to you that men are not necessary in the home or in our communities. As men, we set the tone of the culture. And when that is absent, disorder, dysfunction and chaos set in ..."

"Other countries do not have nearly the same absentee father rates as we find here in the U.S., and a correlation could be made in their drastically lower violence rates as well. Be unapologetic in your masculinity. Fight against the cultural emasculation of men. Do hard things. Never settle for what is easy. You might have a talent that you don't necessarily enjoy, but if it glorifies God, maybe you should lean into that over something that you might think suits you better."

Concluding his speech, Butker said, "I know that my message today had a little less fluff than is expected for these speeches, but I believe that this audience and this venue is the best place to speak openly and honestly about who we are and where we all want to go, which is heaven. I thank God for Benedictine College and for the example it provides to the world."

"Make no mistake, you are entering into mission territory in a post God world, but you are made for this and with God by your side and a constant striving for virtue within your vocation, you too can be a saint. Christ is king to the heights."

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker may have stirred controversy in some quarters for his proclamations of conservative politics and Catholicism on Saturday, but he received a standing ovation from graduates and other attendees of the May 11 commencement ceremony at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas.

The fast-growing college is part of a constellation of conservative Catholic colleges that tout their adherence to church teachings and practice — part of a larger conservative movement in parts of the U.S. Catholic Church.

Butker’s 20-minute speech hit several cultural flashpoints.

Butker, a conservative Catholic himself, dismissed Pride month as consisting of the “deadly sin sort of pride” while denouncing abortion and President Joe Biden’s handling of the pandemic. He said women are told “diabolical lies” about career ambition when “one of the most important titles of all” is that of homemaker. He said this is not time for “the church of nice” and in particular blasted Catholics who support abortion rights and “dangerous gender ideologies.”

WHAT IS BENEDICTINE COLLEGE?

Benedictine College is a Catholic college in Atchison, Kansas, that traces its roots to 1858. It is located about 60 miles north of Kansas City., and has an enrollment of about 2,200.

LOTS OF COLLEGES ARE CATHOLIC. WHAT MAKES IT DISTINCTIVE?

In some ways, Benedictine College sounds like a typical Catholic college. Its “mission as a Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts, residential college is the education of men and women within a community of faith and scholarship,” according to its website.

But its home to more traditional expressions of Catholicism, such as the Latin Mass, all-night prayer vigils and a strict code of conduct. Its mission statement further cites its commitment to “those specific matters of faith of the Roman Catholic tradition, as revealed in the person of Jesus Christ and handed down in the teachings of the Church.”

The school gets a high ranking from the Cardinal Newman Society, a group that touts nearly two-dozen conservative colleges that exhibit what it calls “faithful Catholic education.” That includes upholding church teachings and Catholic identity while providing ample Masses and other devotional activities in shaping their students.

The society seeks to differentiate schools that “refuse to compromise their Catholic mission” from those that have become “battlegrounds for today’s culture wars.” Others praised by the society include Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., Ave Maria University in Florida and Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio.

The society’s ranking says Benedictine benefits from having monks in residence, multiple Masses and prayer groups, spiritually focused organizations and theology programs with professors with a “mandatum” of approval from the local bishop.

HOW HAS THAT RESONATED WITH STUDENTS?

Benedictine’s enrollment has doubled in the past 20 years. Some 85% of its students are Catholic, according to the Cardinal Newman Society.

Students told The Associated Press in interviews they embrace the college’s emphasis on Catholic teaching and practice.

“It’s a renewal of, like, some really, really good things that we might have lost,” one student told the AP in its recent article on the revival of conservative Catholicism.

OTHER FACTS

Annual tuition for full-time undergraduates is $35,350, but Benedictine says 100% of its students receive some form of financial aid.

Benedictine’s sports teams, called the Ravens, compete in National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Its athletics department says it is committed to ”setting the highest standards for academic success, athletic competition, ethical behavior, fiscal responsibility, and spiritual development.”

HOW DID GRADUATES REACT TO BUTKER’S SPEECH?

Video of the commencement shows virtually all the graduates and spectators rising to a standing ovation, but student interviews showed a more mixed reaction.

ValerieAnne Volpe, 20, who graduated with an art degree, lauded Butker for saying things that “people are scared to say.”

“I was thinking about my dad, who was also here, and how he’s probably clapping and so happy to see what he would say is a real man (reflecting) family values, good religious upbringing and representation of Christ to people,” she said. “You can just hear that he loves his wife. You can hear that he loves his family.”

Kassidy Neuner, 22, said the speech felt “a little degrading” and gave the impression that only women can be a homemaker.

“I think that men have that option as well,” said Neuner, who will be spending a gap year teaching before going to law school. “And to point this out specifically that that’s what we’re looking forward to in life seems like our four years of hard work wasn’t really important.”

Elle Wilbers, 22, who is heading to medical school in the fall, said the Catholic faith focuses on mothers, so that portion of the speech wasn’t surprising. She was more shocked by his criticism of priests and bishops “misleading their flocks” and a quip comparing LGBTQ+ Pride month to one of the seven deadly sins.

“We should have compassion for the people who have been told all their life that the person they love is like, it’s not okay to love that person,” Wilbers said. “It was sort of just a shock. I was like, ‘Is he really saying this right now?’”

WHAT DID BENEDICTINE’S NUNS SAY?

The Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica, one of the founding sponsors of Benedictine College, issued a statement Thursday criticizing Buter’s speech, contending it did not properly represent the college’s values.

“Instead of promoting unity in our church, our nation, and the world, his comments seem to have fostered division,” the statement said.

“One of our concerns was the assertion that being a homemaker is the highest calling for a woman,” it added. “We sisters have dedicated our lives to God and God’s people, including the many women whom we have taught. ... These women have made a tremendous difference in the world in their roles as wives and mothers and through their God-given gifts in leadership, scholarship, and their careers.”
