My Favourite Hobby

If I were to pick one favourite hobby of mine out of the many I have, I will definitely pick gardening. I developed a taste for dancing when I was very young. The way my feet moved to the rhythm of the music convinced my parents that I was a born dancer. Dancing is very uplifting as well as economical.

I have always had a love for music and dance. However, I never realized the utter joy they bring to humans. Dancing gives us a lot of exercises. It teaches us to move our body rhythmically and feel the beat of every song. This kind of physical exercise is extremely delightful and enjoyable.

Moreover, dance also taught me how to stay strong and push my limits. I have had many injuries while dancing, too many bruises and cuts but that didn’t stop me from pursuing it further. In fact, it pushes me to do my best and realize my potential more than ever.

I have enrolled in dancing classes because I wish to make my hobby my career. I feel we all should do things which we enjoy doing. Everyone is running after money and in this race, they give up their likings and preferences. I have learned from this race and decided to not take part in it. I wish to take the road less traveled by and take on challenges most people don’t dare to.

In short, my hobby of dancing makes me feel alive and well. It is the only thing I look forward the most to. Thus, I hope to achieve my dream of being a professional dancer and making way for people who wish to make careers out of their hobbies.

Hobby is something through which you can pass your free time. That’s why it is also known as a pastime. Everyone has a different hobby, like singing, dancing, music, etc. My hobby or pastime is reading. I read storybooks, magazines, newspapers, and any kind of material that I find interesting. I developed this hobby while I was a little boy. I had always wanted my parents to read fairy tales and other stories to me. However, soon they got fed up and tired of having to read to me continually. Gradually, I learned to read. I started with simple ABC books. Soon, I could read simple fairy tales and other stories. Today, I can read just about anything that is available. Reading enables me to learn about so many things that I would otherwise not know. I learned about how people lived in bygone days of magic and mystery. I learned about the wonders of the world, space travel, human achievements, gigantic whales, tiny viruses, and other fascinating things of our world.

The wonderful thing about reading is that I do not have to learn things the hard way. For example, I do not have to catch a disease to know that it can make me stick to bed for days or even kill me. I know the danger so I can avoid it. Also, I do not have to go deep into the jungle to learn about the tiger. I can read all about it in a book. Books provide the readers with so much information and facts. They have certainly helped me in my daily life. I am better equipped to cope with living. Otherwise, I would go about ignorantly learning things the hard way. Reading helps me in many ways. My general knowledge has increased. I participated and won many quiz contests, science contests with the help of my hobby. It improves my grammar and vocabulary. My hobby helps me in my studies also. I always get distinctions in my subjects. So I continue to read. Besides being more informed about the world, I also spend my time profitably. It is indeed a good hobby.

Essay No. 06

Hobby means a useful pursuit that delights a man or woman when he or she enjoys leisure. Hobbies are usually followed when one is not occupied in the routine work of any sort and enjoys leisure.

People pass their time in useful pursuits. Gardening attracts some of them; photography attracts others; while coin-collecting is enjoyed by many others. But these hobbies are followed by the people according to their respective tastes.

Everyone cannot afford to buy a cinema ticket and entertain himself. This does not mean that they remain deprived of recreation. They amuse themselves by the hobbies of their own choice. Therefore, hobbies are a sort of cheap source that gives pleasure to people.

I have got a number of hobbies such as story-telling and gardening. I take delight in telling stories of fairy godmothers and others. Wherever I find a story, I read it out to the children. They feel overjoyed to hear such rare stories. I love children very much and therefore I try to collect and read out as many new stories as I can. It is my hobby to learn stories and to narrate them to the children. In my home, you will find more than a hundred books on stories of different types. All these stories I have read out at least once. Now I can tell you tales from Greece, Rome or ancient Egypt, whichever you like. I know stories from ancient India as well. These stories are really very interesting.

I think like a child who loves tales. In addition to the storytelling. I love gardening. This is the hobby which I have reserved for my spare time. I pass my spare time gardening. I have got a big bungalow, where my parents reside. All around the bungalow, there are plants of flowers and fruit trees. I am the person who has planted all these flowers. I water and manure them and look after them. I am a student of Agriculture and thus know all these things. I take special delight in planting flowers. When the flowers bloom, they provide me (with) enough joy. Gardening inspires me to be in love with nature. Nature provides us with enough joy.

Gardening is also a source of joy. This world is full of sorrow and everybody feels the pangs of sorrow in one way or the other. In order to keep himself happy, he has to undertake one or the other hobby. Therefore, hobbies become the source of pleasure. Hobbies help us regain our lost energy. Hobbies refresh our minds.

Hobbies remove all our fatigue and worries. They prove to be our best companions. Hobbies are good for every person. I know one of my neighbours who sing and dances when he is free. I saw him in his moments when he was extremely happy. I wanted to know the source of his happiness and it was nothing but his deep interest in singing and dancing that I noticed in him.

I also like to sing and dance, but everyone can’t pursue the same hobby to the same extent. I cannot find so much pleasure out of singing and dancing as I do from gardening, photography, and other pastimes that I have already mentioned. Different tastes are the basis of all of them. My hobby is a very useful pursuit and it not only delights me, but it delights many others also.

Essay No. 07

There are many kinds of people in this world. Some spend their spare time pursuing interesting habits, while others waste their time in wasteful exercises like gossiping, etc.

Hobbies are carefully cultivated interesting habits. They could be anything reading, listening to music or cooking. Some people like to spend their spare time gardening or collecting stamps.

I have taken up reading as a hobby. I am a voracious reader. I read almost everything, except the literature relating to politics.

Reading gives me pleasure, it stimulates my mind. There have been times when I have come across certain books and articles which have left me very puzzled. It is because they have propounded those ideologies that go against the very principles of our ancient society. Such literature is usually about hatred, separation, and secession. It says that India should once again be divided according to the different religions, and those who refuse to accept this division should be eliminated. After reading these poisonous thoughts, I feel as if I am not living in India, a bastion of peace, any longer.

Then there are books written by stalwarts like Jiddu Krishnamurty, Sri Aurobindo, S. Radhakrishnan, etc. which have filled me with hope and pleasure. These great thinker-philosophers have been successfully redeeming my faith in mankind. I have the same feeling when I read about everyday incidents of communal harmony and religious tolerance I feel proud of my country when I read about young people who have achieved great heights in fields of science, management, arts, etc.

Reading besides providing emotional satisfaction, also gives valuable information about people, places, and objects. It is through books that I have visited many foreign countries, traveled in spaceships, had conversations,s and gained insight into the thoughts of the world leaders.

Indeed reading for me is more than a hobby. it is a passion, that I can never leave.

My Favourite Hobby Essay – Reading Books for 6th to 8th Class (500 Words)

My Hobby Essay

The Magic of Books: Books have a way of captivating me like nothing else. I cherish the moments when I can delve into a world of words and let my imagination soar. Reading novels transports me to different places, times, and experiences. Whether I’m at school, home, or visiting relatives, a book is always my constant companion. While some may consider me a “bookworm,” reading truly brings me a sense of peace and contentment, easing the burdens of the day.

Books as Inspiration: One of the magical aspects of reading is how books can inspire and influence us. Each book I read has the power to shape my perspective and fuel personal growth. When I immersed myself in Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice,” I found myself emulating the strength and determination of the character Jane. Similarly, while reading “Harry Potter,” I couldn’t help but identify with the protagonist and adopt some of his traits. Books have a way of molding my personality and helping me become a better version of myself.

A World of Endless Possibilities: Throughout my life, I have devoured over 2000 books, exploring a wide range of genres and themes. I don’t limit myself to a particular genre; instead, I value the essence and power of words within each book. One of the joys of reading as a hobby is the intoxicating scent of new books and the satisfying sound of crisp pages turning, ushering me into the next chapter of the story.

Journeying Through Books: One of the reasons I adore reading so much is the ability to travel through books. While I may not have the means to travel frequently, books allow me to embark on extraordinary journeys. I can wander through the Mediterranean islands or bask in the sun-drenched beaches of Florida. Through the pages of a book, I can traverse different centuries, living the lives of nobles, or even see the world through the eyes of princes and princesses. Each book offers me a private escape and leaves me feeling transformed.

The Power of Knowledge : Reading provides me with a wealth of information that expands my mind and equips me to face life’s challenges. I acquire insights and knowledge that others may be unaware of, making me feel prepared and confident. Books are not merely a way to pass the time; they have become an integral part of my life.

Nurturing the Passion: Recognizing my early passion for reading, my father gifted me a membership to our city’s library. Now, I visit the library every week, sometimes even twice, to borrow my favorite books and indulge in my passion for reading. What was once a hobby has transformed into a true passion that I wholeheartedly embrace.

Reading books is not just a pastime for me; it is a passion that brings me joy, knowledge, and inspiration. Through books, I embark on endless adventures, explore diverse perspectives, and nurture my imagination. The enchanting world of books has become an integral part of my life, shaping me into a more enlightened and fulfilled individual.

My Hobby Essay in English for Matric to Graduation in 1000-2000 Words

My Hobby Essay

A hobby provides one with a welcome change. When one is back home after a strenuous day with an exhausted and jaded mind, one’s mind is enlivened by a hobby. It is an occupation in which one is one’s own master, no terms are dictated; no restrictions are imposed. If one succeeds, it is so pleasant and heartening; if one does not, it hardly matters.

There is no end to the kinds of hobbies. Stamp collecting seems to be one of the most popular and universally practiced hobbies. Students derive great pleasure from it. Autograph collecting is another favorite. It provides opportunities to meet great people. It also helps people to cast off their shyness and approach great men. However, once when I approached a great dramatist to get this autograph, he wrote in my autograph book – getting autographs is a sign of adolescence. I felt so flushed, I have never again asked anyone for his autograph. Fishing is yet another on popular hobby. Nevertheless, it is a hobby essentially of the reflective or imaginative mind. One can sit for hours near a tank or a rivulet, with rod or line in hand, lost in the paradise of one’s own creation. Rambling in the countryside is a very refreshing pursuit. It helps to restore man’s ties with nature, which stand almost snapped. Besides, it can prove highly educational. Someone with well-developed creative faculties can make decorative pieces with the odd knick-knack available in the house. One of my friends has made the Minar-a-Pakistan purely from empty penicillin vials. Another one makes beautiful decorative wall plates with empty cigarette packets. Then there are gardening, horse-riding, reading favorite authors, photography, painting, music coin or insect collecting, hitch-hiking and so on. In fact, hobbies can be multiplied and infinitum.

Some of the hobbies can be quite ridiculous too. One of my friends has the hobby of collecting discarded tins and bus cartons, and empty bottles. Another one is interested in collecting the small confectionery wrappings. Still another one’s hobby is to collect a variety of cigars. Great men too have hobbies. They derive considerable personal pleasure from their pursuits but their hobbies are motivated by some other consideration too. A politician may turn to a science laboratory or a priest may take to dramatics purely for relaxation and still produce remarkable results.

A few basic principles ought to be observed in the selection of hobbies. A hobby should of course be an absorbing source of pleasure. But it should be pursued as a hobby only. It should not be allowed to become a passion or an obsession. Nor should it be allowed to interfere in one’s professional life. Secondly, it should be within one’s means. It should not be expensive that it starts draining one’s financial resources. Photography and record – collecting have become luxuries. If one can afford them. They are highly satisfying. But there can be equally satisfying inexpensive hobbies to-reading, writing or painting, for example. Painting or writing can even be made a source of income. Thirdly, hobbies should not be absurd, idle pursuits. They should serve some useful purpose. There is palmistry, a fascinating and educational study. There is gardening to provide physical exercise as well as fresh vegetables and colourful flowers. Finally, hobbies are purely personal affairs. They should not be allowed to distract one from one’s domestic and social obligations.

Hobbies are very popular in the west. It is a common saying that Every Englishman rides a hobbyhorse. But Pakistanis do not fully realise the importance and advantage of such a pursuit. Our most popular hobby seems to be gossiping. Ladies, in particular, hold coffee-cum-mud flinging sessions in the afternoon. How light and relaxed they feel after a two-hour long character dissection of their neighbours. One who is strained in his professional life feels the need of relaxation. Since many of us do not take their jobs seriously, they are mostly in a state of idle relaxation.

I water all the plants and love to talk with the little plants. They respond to my love in different gestures. I am very much satisfied and happy with my life because of gardening nature.

My Hobby Essay

A hobby may be defines in Robert Browning words

“I want to know a butcher paints

A baker rhymes for his pursuit

Candlestick-maker much acquaints

His soul with songs, or haply mute

Blows out his brains upon the flute”

Today, man lives in a world where strenuous struggles and efforts are necessary to for survival. He works like a Trojan from dawn to dusk. Physical and mental exertions leave him utterly exhausted and enervated.  The invariable drudgery of daily routine rusts. In the words of Coleridge, his “Shaping spirit of imagination”. He needs some pleasing pursuits to sooth this stress and strain. Such pleasant activities that fill our idle hours are called hobbies.

Different people take different hobbies to effect. Though there are various things I do at the leisure moments, the thing that attracts all of my attention is gardening. Francis Bacon in his essay ”Of Garden” says “God Almighty first planted a garden. And, indeed it is the purest of human pleasures”. Thus this hobby of mine is the ultimate source of joy and pleasure for me. It invigorates both my body and soul. It breathes a new life into my lethargic and lazy body. Gardening or growing plants is exciting activity. The gardeners generate lovely landscape, flagrant flowers, fresh fruits and tall trees. Today elaborate and decorative gardens have become part and parcels of elegant houses. Gardening for pleasure has become pervasive pursuit all over the world. One needs a little soil, small seeds and e few basic tools to grow a garden.

My Hobby essay with quotations. 1000 words essay on My Hobby. This essay is written for students of class 10, Intermediate and higher level.

I delve deep and carry out radical research before selecting a plant to grow. Range of plants available is remarkably rich. The nurseries offer constantly new varieties. Plants differ in tolerance for heat, cold and moisture. Before sowing and growing a plant, I take into account the climate it needs. I evaluate the soil type, the sunlight that falls on the proposed site and may other such factors that can affect the growth of plant. I also consider the life cycle of plant before growing.

My Hobby essay with quotations. 1000 words essay on My Hobby. This essay is written for students of class 10, Intermediate and higher level.

I have divided my garden into various sections. Its main oriental section provides a wonderful vista. Then it has seating area for recreation, a vegetable plot, a children’s play area, walkways and many other eye-catching features. While planting my garden, I have kept in view the blending and contrast of colours. I have grown such plants that give maximum display of colors in summer. But I have never ignored such plants that that bloom in early spring. I have grown flowering and shrubs along the walkways.

Fertile soil is indispensable for the growth of a luxuriant garden. Plants obtain nutrients from soil for their healthy growth. Most plants thrive in a soil type known as loam. It contains 50 percent sand, 25 percent clay and 25 percent silt. All soils do not have a right balance of nutrients. Moreover plants consume nutrients from the soil as they grow. Therefore I use fertilizers to maintain and enhance the productivity of the soil.

My Hobby essay with quotations. 1000 words essay on My Hobby. This essay is written for students of class 10, Intermediate and higher level.

Before sowing seeds, I till the soil by various methods. I turn the soil with a spade and at times loosen it with a garden fork. Then I rake it smooth before planting. To keep the soil loose, I cover it with compost. Seeds are sown close together. When the seedlings are several inches tall, I remove extra ones so that the remaining seedlings are evenly spaced. Sometimes I opt to use transplants. I purchase young plants from nurseries. It gives the garden a head start. I cover each transplant with a plastic soda bottle with the bottom cut off. It acts like a small greenhouse to trap heat around the plant. I place transplants in a large bottomless box with a clear top. It is called a cold frame. The sunlight passes through the top and heats the air in the cold frame.

My Hobby essay with quotations. 1000 words essay on My Hobby. This essay is written for students of class 10, Intermediate and higher level.

Water is as vital for plants as it is for the other organisms. It is essential for plants’ biochemical reactions. It also stores the dissolved water nutrients. The best method of watering the plants is to apply water directly to the soil. Water should be applied directly so that it may percolate into the soil properly and no amount of it is wasted. This is how I water the plants.

My Hobby essay with quotations. 1000 words essay on My Hobby. This essay is written for students of class 10, Intermediate and higher level.

Three types of pests can plague gardens. They are weeds, insects and disease. I pull up weeds by hand or dig them out with a hoe or cut them off with a mover. Sometimes, I use a weed killer, or herbicides to control the weeds. Some insects can be kept in check by introducing beneficial insects to the garden. Insect pests can also be reduced by growing a variety of plants in the garden. Diseases caused by fungi can damage plants. Some fungal diseases can be controlled with a fungicide. To provide plants with optimum soil, nutrients, light and water is the best approach to prevent diseases. I employ all these methods to save may garden from diseases.

I do my best to control the shape of shrubs and trees. I prune the branches growing in the wrong direction. I also remove the diseased or dead branches. In this way, I keep the plants in attractive shapes. In short I keep my garden perfect in all aspects. I love to work and sit there. It has proved to be a heaven of serenity and tranquility for me.

Essay on My Hobby for Class 10 & 12

essay my hobby for class 12 quotations

  • November 17, 2023

Kainat Shakeel

Hobbies are the threads that weave the fabric of our lives, adding color, texture, and depth to the mundane routine. Among the myriad options, my chosen pursuit isn’t just an exertion; it’s a passion that brings joy, ignites creativity, and fosters particular growth. In this essay, we claw into the significance of hobbies, the reasons behind my choice, and the impact they can have on a particular development.

Understanding the constituent of Hobbies:

Hobbies, frequently considered the spice of life, are conditioning to pursue pleasure and relaxation. They offer an escape from the pressures of diurnal life, furnishing a space where one can explore interests, express creativity, and find solace. Hobbies can range from the cultural and recreational to the intellectual and physical, feeding different tastes and preferences.

The Significance of Having a Hobby:

Having a hobby isn’t just a tardy pursuit; it’s a pivotal element of a balanced and fulfilling life. Pursuits offer a myriad of benefits, contributing to internal well-being, stress reduction, and the improvement of colorful chops. They serve as a creative outlet, a source of joy, and a means of tone- discovery.

My Chosen Hobby is Photography:

Among the show of implicit pursuits, photography has surfaced as my chosen passion. It isn’t simply the act of landing moments through a lens; it’s a trip of disquisition, liar, and tone expression. Through the viewfinder, I discover a world of endless possibilities, where every frame tells a unique narrative.

Reasons behind Choosing Photography:

The appeal of photography lies in its capability to indurate moments in time, recapitulating feelings, stories, and the beauty of the ordinary. The following reasons synopsize why photography has become more than just a pastime for me;

  • Capturing Moments: Photography allows me to indurate moments that are transitory, conserving recollections that would otherwise fade with time.
  • Creative Expression: Through composition, lighting, and perspective, photography becomes a medium for creative expression. Each shot is an oil that I paint with light and shadow.
  • Storytelling: Every snap is a story staying to be told. It could be the narrative of a bustling cityscape, the quiet beauty of nature, or the nuanced feelings captured in a portrayal.
  • Connection with the Surroundings: Photography has heightened my mindfulness of the world around me. It encourages me to observe details, appreciate beauty in unanticipated places, and find significance in the putatively mundane.
  • Continuous literacy:   The world of photography is vast and ever-evolving. Learning about different ways, outfits, and styles is a perpetual trip that keeps me engaged and motivated.

Impact of Photography on Personal Development:

Beyond the joy it brings, photography has had a profound impact on my particular development. It has shaped my perspective, honed my colorful chops, and contributed to my overall growth;

  • Tolerance and Perseverance:   Perfecting the craft of photography requires tolerance. Staying for the right light, composing a shot strictly, and refining ways have taught me the value of perseverance.
  • Attention to Detail:   In photography, attention to detail is consummated. This skill has transcended into other aspects of my life, fostering a more scrupulous and thorough approach.
  • Cultural Sensibility: Photography has enhanced my cultural sensibility. Understanding the interplay of rudiments like color, composition, and perspective has made me more visually apprehensive.
  • Appreciation for Diversity:   Through shooting colorful subjects and scenes, I have developed a profound appreciation for diversity. It has opened my eyes to different societies, perspectives, and ways of life.
  • Time Management:   Balancing the demands of diurnal life with pursuing a hobby necessitates effective time operation. Photography has tutored me to prioritize, plan efficiently, and make the utmost of the available time.

Encouraging Hobbies in Education:

Beyond particular gests, the significance of pursuits is decreasingly honored in the field of education. Schools and colleges are admitting the part of pursuits in fostering holistic development. Encouraging scholars to pursue pursuits not only enhances their chops but also contributes to a more well-rounded and flexible personality.

In conclusion, hobbies aren’t bare pastimes; they’re vestments that weave through the fabric of our lives, adding uproariousness, depth, and meaning. My chosen hobby, photography, goes beyond the act of landing images; it’s a source of joy, growth, and particular fulfillment. The trip of indurating moments through a lens has not only shaped my perspective but has also contributed to my development as an existent. As we navigate the complications of life, let us not underrate the power of pursuits to nurture our souls, enkindle our heartstrings, and contribute to the shade of a life well-lived.

How many quotations do you need in an Essay?

This simply depends on the length of the Essay. Usually, students of FSC write 400 to 500 words in an essay which is enough. For this length of essay 4 to 5 quotations are enough. However, students of senior classes can use more quotations. The main thing is you need to use common sense and focus on quality instead of quantity. Use quotations wisely and in the appropriate places.

How do you write a quote in an essay?

It is simply the same method you use writing quotes anywhere in the essay. Just start your essay with any relevant quote and discuss it. Write the quote in inverted commas and mention the author name next to it. Try to use the most appropriate and relevant quotations in your essay.

Can I start an essay with a quote?

It is not necessary to write quotes in essays. However, it is a good practice which can help you to secure good marks in your English paper. Students of FSC 2nd Year write quotations in their essays to make them impressive and attractive. Graduation students prefer writing Outline instead of quotes.
