A home is a place that gives comfort to everyone. It is because a home is filled with love and life. Much like every lucky person, I also have a home and a loving family. Through My Home Essay, I will take you through what my home is like and how much it means to me.

A Place I Call Home

My home is situated in the city. It is not too big nor too small, just the perfect size. My family lives in the home. It comprises of my father, mother, sister and grandparents. We live in our ancestral home so my home is very vintage.

It is very old but remains to be super strong. There are six rooms in my home. Each family member has a unique room which they have decorated as per their liking. For instance, my elder sister is a big fan of music, so her walls are filled with posters of musicians like BTS, RM, and more.

Our drawing room is a large one with a high ceiling. We still use the vintage sofa set which my grandmother got as a wedding gift. Similarly, there is a vintage TV and radio which she uses till date.

Adjoining the drawing room is my bedroom. It is my favourite room because it contains everything that I love. I have a pet guinea pig which lives in a cage in my room. We also have a storeroom which is filled with things we don’t use but also cannot discard.

Our lawn in front of the house has a little garden. In that garden , my mother is growing her own kitchen garden. She is passionate about it and brings different seeds every month to grow them out and use them in our food.

The fondest memories I have in a place is my terrace. Our terrace is huge with many plants. I remember all the good times we have spent there as a family. Moreover, we play there a lot when my cousins come over. Thus, every nook and corner of my home is special to me.

There is no other better place in the world, than being in the comfort of our homes. Home is where we learn the first lessons in life.

The unity, love, togetherness all comes from a home. Home is the base for every individual and we should thank God for being blessed with a lovable home.

My home is situated in the suburb of Cochin, a metro city in Kerala. A very fast moving place, yet I love the place. I live in an apartment and it is not a very large one. We live on the second floor. Our home is small, yet it has all the joy and happiness that I could ever dream of. My father works as a banker and my mother does writing. I have a little sister and we make our home.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

My grandparents live close by, but not together with us. We just have a two bedroom apartment, with wonderful balconies and a good kitchen, where my mom always cooks great delicious food. In one of the rooms, myself and my sister share. We study and play in that room.

The other room, my parents use. The dinning is along with living room and we have separated it with an arch. The balconies are not very large, but they face the main roads, and so it is really very nice to stand out in evenings, and enjoy the nature. We have our car parking below and a small park where we could play in the evenings.

I love my home very much. There is so much of fun and joy at my home. Though we fight for small things, my parents make us realize about all the good things in life and we try understanding them. We love our home very much. Being in the city, we also enjoy weekends going out and sometimes mom trying new recipes.

Our home is sweet and as we see it, it is really “Home sweet Home”. As the saying goes “A house is built by hands, but a home is built by hearts”, our home is also built by hearts. A warm, welcoming and loving place is what my home is.

East or West, home is best. Home is very dear to all creatures on this mother earth. So I love my sweet home. It is in fact, heaven on earth. It provides all kinds of comforts.

I live in Priyadarshani Vihar. I live with my parents, brother and sister. Our house has three rooms, a drawing room, two bathrooms, and a kitchen. It is airy and sunny. In front of it there are neem and a small garden, with grass and flower beds. We always keep it neat and clean.

Our neighbours are good and helpful. They are educated and learned. We respect them. They too respect us.

We live peacefully. Everyone in my house loves me. I am the youngest child of the family. They care for me very much.

We have a pet dog. Its name is Chickoo. Whenever I return from school it comes running to the gate, wagging its tail. If any stranger pushes the bell button, it starts barking. It is full of love.

Once, I was away from my home. I had to stay at my uncle’s house for two days. I couldn’t sleep. I feel homesick. As soon as I came back home, I felt very much happy and relieved. I feel very attached to it. The comforts of home give us great pleasure and satisfaction. To be with parents and brother and sister is a rare joy. I don’t like to miss it. It is a heaven on earth.

Out of all the places on this earth, the home has always been the most favorite place for everyone. That’s where you feel safe and happy surrounded by your blood relations. Moreover, it is the comfort zone where you would feel the liberty of saying and doing everything you feel like without any fear.

A home is like a castle in which you are your own leader, your own king, and queen. It is no less than a blessing to feel untouchable and secure from every external threatening element. It would be quite fair to say that my home is my prized possession which I love the most in the whole world. The stronger the relationship you have with your parents and siblings, the more you fall for your home.

It’s not the interior but also the exterior of a home which makes you love it. Likewise, I also love the location, design, architectural style, and color combination of my home which cause to increase its curb appeal. If I had given many choices or options, I still wouldn’t have chosen any location or family other than what I already have.  

My home was designed by my own father a lot of years ago and it stood by every test of the time till yet. Also, he took care of its maintenance so well that it doesn’t look like an old house. It fulfills both the traditional and modern requirements of today’s world. Also, my mother plays the role of an interior designer which keeps renovating our home by adding unique furniture and accessories in it every time.

Our community is very close and the neighbors we are blessed with are unbelievably loving and caring. We don’t feel the need to be worried about our home even when we are away as our neighbors makes sure that it is safe and secure even in our absence. Also, the nature that surrounds our home in the form of trees, plants, and greenery is so peaceful and comforting that one can spend most of the time of his days and nights there without even realizing. The birds entertain us with their singing which I get to hear from my room’s window. It really causes to refresh my mornings and days.

With the passage of time when I entered the adult phase of my life, I got the chance to visit a lot of other places for my study and career development. That was a time I lived in the hostels and had a really hard time to survive. Those experiences of staying away from home make me realize that I had been taking my sweet and blessed home for granted for so long. Now I know that I can’t find heaven on earth anywhere else except my home.

Long story short, the memories, love, care, and affection I get from my home is nowhere else to be found. And I really want to spend the rest of my life in my sweet home with my loving family members peacefully.

I love everything about it, from its size, design, location and if I had a choice, I wouldn’t have asked for any other house. It is still not yet in our possession, but in a few years’ time we will be through with the mortgage and the house will be all ours.

Standing at more than 15,000 sq ft. piece of land, our two stories building is designed in the southern style. Our house is quite large with five bedrooms. My parents were lucky to have bought it at 25% of its current market value. Our realtor had informed our parents that this area had the prospect of growth in the few coming years.

I was so used to the city life that I had never ever anticipated in my life that I would live in the suburbs. I was worried that I would lose my friends when we changed school. The good thing was that the area was not yet developed and there were no schools. So, my sisters and I maintained the same school and since father and mother both worked in the city, each day they would drop us to school before they went to their respective jobs.

As time went by, I got used to the idea of living in our new home. The days were peaceful, the surrounding was serene and the people were friendly. When we moved in, they all came to welcome us as a gesture of goodwill. The trees around our homesteads were beautiful and the birds inhabiting them entertained us with their incessant singing every morning.

As I grew older, I realized that my suburban home was like heaven on earth. My city friends were always mesmerized by the beauty of our surrounding whenever they came over for sleepovers. It was always refreshing for them to experience something different in life. However, I did not share the same enthusiasm when I went to their apartments in the city.

Life was not as fancy as it used to when we first lived in the city. I could not even sleep peacefully with all the honking and noises outside. These trips were an eye opener for me. I learnt the value of having a home and how much my home meant to me. Our neighborhood has really changed, since we first set foot here.

Now, it is more populated. Schools have been built, we have a college around the corner, there is a mall, coffee shops- in short, we have everything here and we do not need to run to the city to get anything. We are one close-knit community and nothing gets by us. So, it is highly unlikely that anything could go wrong in our neighborhood, because someone is always watching. Incidences of crime are nonexistent. If you want anything, you just ask your neighbor. If there are wrangles between families, they are solved at a community level.

So, when I talk about my home, I’m not just referring to the house that I live in. My home is inclusive of my neighborhood, my community, the surroundings and everything in it. These are the things that make life worthwhile and memorable.

During the day, the place is buzzing with activities: men in suits going to work, women taking their kids to school or walking their pets or going for morning jogs and teenagers in groups strolling to their respective institutions to study.

The activities are not much different from the city. However, in the suburbs there is always calmness, people are never in a hurry, always greeting each other and sometimes standing together to ponder about the affairs of the community.

The evenings are also very quiet and peaceful, except for a few incidences of mothers shouting at their kids to stop misbehaving or sharp cries of babies. But, these incidences do not go unnoticed and the next day the neighbors may seek to know if everything was fine. Many people may see this as prying into other people’s business, but to us it’s a gesture of concern.

Our community is that close. The evenings are well lit with street lights and security lights from houses. There are also neighborhood watches, where groups of our courageous men take turns to watch over the community, especially if there was an incident that threatened our security. There are also police patrols once in a while.

Not even one single house is gated. Cars are usually parked in the driveways, without any worries. The driveway is well tarmacked and each household contributes towards its maintenance. Houses are evenly spaced and are arranged in a straight line. They all have beautiful kept lawns with hose pipes sprinkling water on them.

Next to the driveways are nicely paved pathways for people and animals to walk on. We support each other whenever we can. Whether it is a garage sale, where a family is trying to raise money or it is our high school sports team that wants fanatical support, one thing is certain: count on us to always be there.

All the houses have at least one tree, which makes the place quite cool most of the year. The trees are especially helpful during the summer when the high temperatures are unbearable. During the seasons of spring and autumn, the trees bring out a picturesque view of the place with flowers blooming and falling all over. Winters are very tricky with snow all over the place, however the warmth of people always sees us through.

The holidays are always celebrated in unison- no one goes outside the norm. If it is the Halloween, everyone decorates their homes with scary assortments, dress in Halloween costumes and go trick or treating. If it is the thanks giving celebrations, be rest assured that there is a turkey being cooked in every house. During Sundays, most people throng to the community church to get spiritual nourishing.

Standing majestically for more than three decades is our house. It has seen a series of makeovers over the years that it is a far cry from what it used to be when my parents bought it. A place that I still consider a heaven within a heaven, even though I and my two sisters have already moved out. My parents now run a coffee shop a few blocks from the house, since they are now retired.

My brother who was discharged from army duty lives with them. He has installed an American flag on top of the house just to announce to the whole world that he was in the service and troublemakers should keep their distance. Each time I visit the place I’m bombarded by nostalgic feelings that it is always hard for me to go back to the city.

The place is still the same. People still exhibit the same calmness, never in a hurry and always willing to come to the aid of those in need. The only thing changing are the people- they are either moving in or out. Most of the people I grew up with have either left for the city like me or have relocated to other cities.

What makes this place special to me are the special memories that it has given me. It gives me hope that amidst all the chaos that are happening all over the place, there is a place that people are still living in harmony irrespective of race, religion or any other factor that is used to discriminate people. Our family has come to the agreement that the house will not be sold, at least not in our time, and will act as memorabilia for our family.
