            મિત્રો, આપણે સૌએ ગુજરાતીમાં એક કહેવત તો સાંભળી જ હશે કે, “જરૂરિયાત એ શોધખોળની જનેતા છે”. જ્યારે પણ કોઈ વસ્તુની જરૂરિયાત ઊભી થાય છે, ત્યાંથી જ તેની શોધખોળની શરૂઆત થાય છે. આવી અનેક શોધખોળ માટે ઓગણીસમી સદી અને વીસમી સદી ખૂબ જ યાદગાર રહી છે. ઓગણીસમી સદીની અનેક શોધોમાંની એક શોધ એટલે “ટેલિવિઝન”.

ટેલિવિઝનની શોધ અને તેનો ઈતિહાસ :-

            ટેલિવિઝનની શોધ ઈ.સ. ૧૯૨૬માં બી. બાયર્ડ નામના વ્યક્તિએ ટેલિવિઝનની શોધ કરી હતી. તેની આ શોધના કારણે માનવીનું જીવન ઘણું જ આરામદાયક અને સુખ સગવડ ભર્યું બન્યું છે. શરૂઆતના ટેલિવિઝન ફક્ત બ્લેક એન્ડ વાઈટ આવતા હતા, તેમજ તેની સાઈઝ પણ ખુબ જ મોટી આવતી હતી. તે સમયે તેની પાછળ થતો સંશોધન ખર્ચ તેમજ ટેકનોલોજીમાં થતા ફેરફારના કારણે ટેલિવિઝન ખરીદવા ખૂબ જ ખર્ચાળ હતા. તેથી દરેક વ્યક્તિને ટેલિવિઝન વસાવવું પોસાય તેમ નહોતું. પરંતુ સમયાંતરે તેમાં થયેલા સંશોધન તેમજ સતત થઈ રહેલા ટેકનોલોજીકલ ફેરફારને  કારણે રંગીન ટેલિવિઝન ની શોધ થઈ.

ત્યારબાદ ધીરે ધીરે તેની સાઈઝમાં પણ ઘટાડો થવા લાગ્યો અને અત્યારે આપણે જે જોઈએ છીએ તે ટેલિવિઝન ક્ષેત્રની સૌથી અદભુત શોધ છે. આપણને એક નાનકડી પેનલમાં આખી દુનિયા ફીટ કરીને આપી દેવામાં આવી છે. તેના દ્વારા આપણે આપણા ઘરે બેઠા બેઠા જ દેશ અને દુનિયાની ખબરથી માહિતગાર થઇ શકીએ છીએ. છેક બ્લેક એન્ડ વાઈટ થી શરૂ કરેલી ટેલિવિઝનની આ સફર સ્માર્ટ ટીવી અને સેટેલાઈટ ટીવી સુધી પહોંચી ગઈ છે.

            ટેલિવિઝનની શોધ એ ખરેખર કહીએ તો એક વરદાનરૂપ સાબિત થઈ છે. ટેલિવિઝન દ્વારા ઘરે બેઠા બેઠા જ દેશ અને દુનિયાના સમાચાર મેળવી શકાય છે. જ્યારે ટેલિવિઝન ન હતા ત્યારે કોઈ ખબર એક રાજ્ય થી બીજા રાજ્ય સુધી પહોંચાડવા માટે ઘણો સમય લાગી જતો હતો. પરંતુ આજે ટેલીવિઝનના માધ્યમથી તે જ કામ મીનીટોમાં થઈ જાય છે. કોઈ એક દેશમાં બનેલી ઘટના થોડા જ સમયની અંદર દુનિયાના દરેક ખૂણે બેઠા બેઠા જોઈ શકાય છે.

ટેલિવિઝન દ્વારા ઘણી આધ્યાત્મિક સીરીયલો લોકો સમક્ષ આવી. જેના કારણે લોકોના આધ્યાત્મિક જ્ઞાન માં વધારો થયો. નાના બાળકોના મનોરંજન માટે કાર્ટુન તેમજ તમને સારી અને ખરાબ બાબતો વચ્ચેનો ભેદ સમજાવવા માટે શક્તિમાન જેવી સિરિયલો આવતી. જે બાળક ઘરના વડીલોનું ના માનતો હોય તે બાળક પણ ટેલિવિઝનમાં જોયેલી વાત તરત જ માની લે, અને તે પ્રમાણેનું જ વર્તન કરે.

કોરોના જેવી મહામારીમાં ટેલિવિઝને ખૂબ જ મહત્વની ભૂમિકા ભજવી. જ્યારે લોકોના ભેગા થવા પર પ્રતિબંધ થયો, વિદ્યાર્થીઓના શાળાએ જવા પર પ્રતિબંધ થયો અને શાળાઓ બંધ થઈ, તેવા સમયે ટેલિવિઝન એકમાત્ર માધ્યમ હતું જેના દ્વારા બાળકો એ પોતાનો અભ્યાસ પૂર્ણ કર્યો. અને આવી મહામારીમાં પણ પોતાનું ભણતરનું અમૂલ્ય વર્ષ બચાવી શક્યા. આમ ટેલિવિઝનની શોધ એ દરેક વયજૂથના વ્યક્તિ માટે એક વરદાનરૂપ સાબિત થઈ. પરંતુ કહેવાય છે ને કે, “દરેક સિક્કાની બે બાજુ હોય છે” તેવી રીતે ટેલિવિઝનની શોધની પણ બીજી બાજુ છે, જે ચિંતા કરવા પર મજબુર કરી દે તેવી છે.

 ટેલિવિઝન ની શોધના જેટલા ફાયદા છે, તેટલા જ ગેરફાયદા પણ છે. ટેલિવિઝન આવવાના કારણે ઘરના વ્યક્તિઓને અપાતો ફ્રી સમય, ઘરના સભ્યો ના બદલે હવે ટેલિવિઝન ને અપાવા લાગ્યો. ટેલિવિઝન દ્વારા પ્રસરી રહેલી અશ્લીલતાના કારણે બાળકોના માનસ પટ પર તેની વિપરીત અસર થવા લાગી અને ધીરે ધીરે સંસારમાં પણ અશ્લીલતા ફેલાવા લાગી.

સતત ટેલિવિઝન સામે બેસી રહેવાના કારણે બાળકોમાં આંખોની નબળાઈ આવવી, શારીરિક સ્થૂળતા તેમજ સતત ઘોંઘાટમાં રહેવાના કારણે સ્વભાવમાં ચીડિયાપણું આવવા લાગ્યું. સીરીયલ અને ચલચિત્રોના કારણે જ્યાં ભાઈ ભાઈ પર વિશ્વાસ કરતો હતો તેના બદલે હવે તેને શંકાની નજરે જોવા લાગ્યો. એક જ ઘરમાં સાસુ વહુ સંપીને રહેતા હતા, તેના બદલે અલગ અલગ રહેવા લાગ્યા. પરિણામે સંયુક્ત કુટુંબમાંથી વિભક્ત કુટુંબની શરૂઆત થઈ. લોકો છૂટા પડવા લાગ્યા, કુટુંબો વિખરાવા લાગ્યા અને સમાજ અધ:પતન તરફ જવા લાગ્યો.

પ્રસ્તાવના: થોડા સમય પહેલાં સુધી આપણે કોઈ જાદૂગરની વાર્તા વાંચતા હતા કે, જાદૂગરે જેવા જ પોતાના ગ્લોબ પર હાથ ફેરવ્યા એવો જ એનો શત્રુ ગ્લોબ પર દેખાવા લાગ્યો. જાદૂગરે એની બધી ક્રિયાઓને પોતાના રૂમમાં બેસીને જ જોઈ લીધ. એનાથી આપણને મહાન આશ્ચર્ય થાય છે. આ પ્રકારનો જાદૂ હવે આપણે પ્રતિદિવસ પોતાના ઘર પર કરીએ છીએ. સ્વિચ દબાવતા જ બોલતી રંગબિરંગી તસ્વીરો આપણી સામે આવી જાય છે. આ બધું ટેલીવિઝનનો ચમત્કાર છે. આપણે હજારો-લાખો કિલોમીટર દૂરની ક્રિયાઓને પણ દૂરદર્શનયંત્ર પર જોઈ શકીએ છીએ.

દૂરદર્શનનો આવિષ્કાર: ટેલીવિઝનનો આવિષ્કાર ૨૫ જાન્યુઆરી, ૧૯૨૬એ ઇંગ્લેન્ડમાં થયો. એન્જિનિયર જૉન બેય ટેલીવિઝનનું સર્વપ્રથમ પ્રદર્શન કર્યું હતું. એણે રેડિયોની તરંગોની મદદથી કઠપુતળીના ચહેરાનું ચિત્ર બાજુવાળા રૂમમાં બેઠેલા વૈજ્ઞાનિકોની સામે પ્રદર્શિત કર્યું હતું. વિજ્ઞાન માટે આ એક અત્યંત મહત્ત્વપૂર્ણ ઘટના હતી.

દૂરદર્શનના લાભ: દૂરદર્શનનો આવિષ્કાર વૈજ્ઞાનિક પ્રયોગ માટે કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો. ચંદ્રમા પર મોકલવામાં આવેલા અંતરિક્ષ-યાનોમાં દૂરદર્શન-યંત્ર લગાવવામાં આવ્યા હતા. એમણે ત્યાંથી ચંદ્રમાના ઘણાં બધા ચિત્ર પૃથ્વી પર મોકલ્યા. જે અમેરિકી અંતરિક્ષ-યાત્રી ચંદ્રમા પર ગયા હતા, એમની પાસે દૂરદર્શન કેમેરા હતા. એમણે ચંદ્રમાના તળના એવા દર્શન કરાવ્યા માનો દર્શક પણ ચંદ્રમા પર હરતાં-ફરતાં રહ્યા હોય. મંગળ તથા શુક્ર ગ્રહો તરફ મોકલવામાં આવેલાં અંતરિક્ષ-યાનોમાં લાગેલા દૂરદર્શન-યંત્રોએ એ ગ્રહોના સૌથી સારા તથા વિશ્વસનીય ચિત્ર પૃથ્વી પર મોકલ્યા.

ચિકિત્સા તેમજ શિક્ષાના ક્ષેત્રમાં દૂરદર્શનનો પ્રયોગ: અન્ય ક્ષેત્રોમાં પણ ટેલીવિઝનની ઉપયોગિતાને વૈજ્ઞાનિકોએ ઓળખી છે. ઉદાહરણ માટે અનુભવી સર્જન જો હૃદયનું ઓપરેશન કરે છે, તો એ રૂમમાં વધારેથી વધારે પાંચ કે છ વિદ્યાર્થી જ ઑપરેશનને જોઈ શકે છે. પરંતુ ટેલીવિઝનની મદદથી મોટા હોલમાં પરદા પર ઑપરેશનની ક્રિયા ત્રણસો-ચારસો વિદ્યાર્થીઓને સુગમતાથી નજરે પડી શકે છે. અમેરીકાની કેટલીક મોટી-મોટી હૉસ્પિટલોના ઑપરેશન થિયેટરોમાં સ્થાયી રૂપથી ટેલીવિઝનના યંત્ર લગાવી દેવામાં આવ્યા છે, જેથી મહત્ત્વપૂર્ણ ઓપરેશન ટેલીવિઝન દ્વારા પરદા પર વિદ્યાર્થીઓને બતાવી શકાય.

ઉદ્યોગ અને વ્યવસાયના ક્ષેત્રમાં દૂરદર્શનનો પ્રયોગ: ઉદ્યોગ અને, વ્યવસાયના ક્ષેત્રમાં ટેલીવિઝન મહત્ત્વપૂર્ણ યોગદાન આપી શકે છે. ટેલીવિઝનની મદદથી એન્જિનિયર ભારે ભાર ઉઠાવવાવાળી ક્રેનનું પરિચાલન કરી શકે છે. જો કે, કેન એન્જિનિયરની દૃષ્ટિથી દૂર રહે છે. પરંતુ ક્રેનનું ચિત્ર ટેલીવિઝનના પરદા પર પ્રત્યેક ક્ષણ રહે છે.

મનોરંજનનું સાધન: ટેલીવિઝન મનોરંજનનું સસ્તુ સાધન છે. એના માધ્યમથી આપણે ઘર પર બેસીને ચલચિત્ર જોઈ શકીએ છીએ. પોતાના ખાલી સમયમાં આપણે દૂરદર્શન કેન્દ્રથી પ્રસારિત થવાવાળા મનોરંજક કાર્યક્રમ પણ જોઈ શકીએ છીએ.

ભારતમાં દૂરદર્શન: ભારતમાં દૂરદર્શનનું પ્રથમ કેન્દ્ર નવી દિલ્લીમાં ૧૫ સપ્ટેમ્બર, ૧૯૫૯માં શરૂ થયું હતું. પહેલાં એનો ઉપયોગ ફક્ત ઉચ્ચતર માધ્યમિક વિદ્યાલયોમાં શિક્ષા માટે કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો. મે ૧૯૬પથી અડધા કલાકનો નિયમિત મનોરંજન કાર્યક્રમ શરૂ થયો. સન્ ૧૯૭૧ ઈ.માં મુંબઈ, સન્ ૧૯૯૩માં શ્રીનગર અને અમૃતસરમાં પણ દૂરદર્શન પ્રસારણ-કેન્દ્ર સ્થાપિત કરી દેવામાં આવ્યા. હવે પૂરા દેશમાં દૂરદર્શનની જાળ બિછાઈ ગઈ છે.
