My Dream House- An Essay

I always imagine how my future house will be. A home is a place surrounded by the people one loves. A house is not made beautiful by its furniture or decor, but by the people that live inside it. My dream house should be a house that I can share with my family when I grow old. I always dream of a wooden house in the hilly areas. My dream house should be the one facing a small river. Through the windows, I could see the sun setting and disappearing into the mountains. My dream house would have a small garden where I will grow my own vegetables and fruits.

The house that I fancy would be considerably big with four rooms and a spacious common area. My dream house should be comfortable for my parents, grandparents and siblings. The house should be equipped with all the modern amenities. It should have a big TV with a home theatre system and a Playstation attached to it. The walls of the house will have light colours that will make it appear bright. There will be sufficient light bulbs and lamps in every room. I also dream of a chandelier in the guest room and a big sofa where everyone will sit and enjoy watching TV together. My grandparents love reading. I wish that my dream house will have a reading space with lots of books.

I have a 3-year old pet dog called Tiger. I also want to have a small yet cosy space in my house for Tiger where he can sleep and relax when he grows old. The house will have beautiful interiors and will have all the facilities like a modern kitchen, three bathrooms, a staircase leading to the terrace, ACs, etc. My dream home should be the one where we all can live happily and comfortably.

One day I want to have a home that makes me feel well and where I can be safe and happy with my family. I want to live in a big white house with blue shutters. My room will be overlooking the river so that I can paint the scenery. I want a blue coloured porch wrapped around the house where I can drink tea and watch the sunrise and sunset everyday.

My Ideal Home

My ideal home would be welcoming to my parents, grandparents, and siblings. My ideal home is one in which all of us can live happily and comfortably. The house I envision would be quite large, with four bedrooms and a large common area. The house should be outfitted with all modern conveniences. It should have a large TV, a home theatre system, and a Playstation.

The walls of the house will be painted in light colours to make it appear bright. Every room will have enough light bulbs and lamps. I also want a chandelier in the common room and a large sofa where everyone can sit and watch TV together. My grandparents are avid readers. My ideal home would have a library with a large number of books.

500 Words Essay On Dream House

The house is where we stay with our loved ones. A good house is one that makes the person feel at ease. It is a place where we can seek shelter from rain, heat, and storms, among other things. Everyone has their own preferences for the type of home they prefer to live in.

Location Of My Dream House

I want to live in the mountains of Switzerland. I want to live in a picturesque village named Grindewald where Alps mountain is located. I want to live in a small community where everyone knows each other, and people are very kind and helpful.

I want to raise cows on the hillsides. Every morning, I want to wake up to the melodious tinkle of a cowbell around my ears. When I walk out of my room, I want to stand on the lawn of the backyard and breathe in the fresh air. I want a warm and cosy house of comfort and peace.

The beautiful glacier can be seen from my terris's window. Why do I want this type of house? Because I enjoy seeing the sunrise and sunset, as well as the people working at their workplace. The breeze from the trees planted by the people of the village behind my dream house will be refreshing every day. It would be fantastic. I chose to build my home near the village and river so that I can feel refreshed and grateful to be surrounded by nature. In my ideal home, I also want to plant my own fruits and vegetables.

How My Dream House Would Look

First and foremost, my house would be located in the woods, away from everyone else. I'd also live in a contemporary-looking log cabin. Living in a log cabin has always been a dream of mine. I also want to live in a contemporary home, so combining the two would be ideal for me.

My dream home will be large and spacious. I want my house to be built on a mountain with as many green materials as possible to help protect the environment. I also want my house to be located away from the hustle and bustle of a big city, but not too far from civilization. This house style, which I believe suits my personality, is more antique and sophisticated, with a touch of simplicity and aesthetic. The house will have beautiful interiors and all of the amenities, such as a kitchen, three bathrooms, a staircase leading to the terrace, and a bonfire place.

My backyard would be open and have a view of the mountain and valleys. There would be a bonfire in the centre surrounded by chairs, and a barbeque place. I want a swimming pool and a jacuzzi in my backyard.

My room would be the biggest one out of the 5 rooms I want in my home. It would have black coloured walls and blue curtains. There would be a small bed for my dog in the corner of my room. I want to have a common room where everyone can sit and watch TV, spend some quality time with the family and have a huge wooden dining table in the corner of the room.

Doing topic research before writing an essay is very important. To write a dream house essay in English, you must first visualize the entire house in your mind. Then it would help if you decided what details and how many details you want to include in your dream house essay. These will include the words or phrases that you want to include.

Planning before writing not only saves time but helps you in organizing your ideas. You will have to spend some time in developing a basic outline of your essay. It will help you in improving the flow of your writing and will help the reader in visualizing your dream house.

As discussed before, having a writing plan proves to help bring your thoughts on a piece of paper. An outline of my dream house essay will be like a blueprint that will serve as a guide when you sit down to write the actual essay.

An example of the essay outline that describes your house can be:

  • Introduction
  • Body Paragraph 1: Details about the exterior of the house
  • Body Paragraph 2: Details about the interior of the house

You should feel free to include as many details or points as you wish or deem appropriate. With that said, make sure the flow is logical and the essay segues smoothly from the introduction to the body and then to the concluding part.

Your dream house essay should engage the readers. It can be only achieved when the body paragraphs are cohesive, linked, and are in a flow. It is unnecessary to make two separate paragraphs to communicate similar ideas; hence, they should be grouped together. Topic sentences should be used along with content to support it. All the paragraphs should have a similar length. The use of transition words (such as ‘furthermore’, ‘however’, and ‘besides’) will improve the connection and flow between paragraphs. Do not use intricate sentence structure that is difficult to read and understand. Simple sentences are easier to understand and will help in visualizing the house. The dream house essay example written at the end will provide you with a better idea of how paragraphs are written.

Your essay should include all of the details regarding the house. It would be best if you start by putting a “my dream house paragraph” at the start, which will give the reader a basic idea or introduction. It can be followed by a paragraph of what living in a dream house would be like for you. Then you can continue by explaining the exterior, interior, and particular areas or features of the house which make the house a “dream house” for you. You can mention the tiniest details as it helps the reader in visualizing better. You can also imagine yourself living in that house and then jot down different activities that you might be carrying out, such as hosting parties and having movie nights.

The conclusion of the essay will give a summary of all the points you have mentioned in your essay “the house of my dream”. It will wrap up your essay in a neat manner. When concluding your essay, please do not restate the idea or the statement that you want to have a dream house as it will be redundant. The conclusion is not supposed to bring any new ideas as they should only be explained in the body paragraphs.

Once you are done writing the essay, its time to sit back and revise it carefully. The revision process lets you look at the essay from a fresh perspective. You can be critical while reading it. It is the rethinking phase in which you reconsider the details, add something in case anything was missed, and reorganize the paragraphs. If you have missed details about the exciting floor tiling, while describing your dream house, now is the time to add those.

The golden rule of writing is not relying on the first draft of an essay about a dream house or of any essay. If you are not considering this, then you are risking more than just having confused readers. What if you have made spelling mistakes or errors in the sentence structure. It might derail the reader and can hinder the visualization process of your dream house. Proofreading can help you maintain quality and can help you in recognizing areas that could have been written and explained better.

To help with the visualization process, pictures that resemble your dream house can be added. It will also ensure the attentiveness of the reader as images are better at grabbing attention. Also, the human brain can process images much faster than words. Check out the example in the dream house college assignment written below.

essay about my dream house

Since childhood, I have been dreaming of the perfect house that will be a place of happiness, inspiration, and peace. The idea of having a house in a noisy city is something I have always dreaded. My dream house will be in the suburbs, outside the city. I would be very excited is there is a lake nearby as I adore nature. Though the house will be far from the city, that does not mean that I will live in isolation. Everything will be a walking distance, whether it is a supermarket or a car wash.

The house of my dreams will have a simple but modern design that would be appealing to the eyes. I would like to have a huge lawn where I can grow my vegetables and fruits. The parking would be spacious enough for several cars. I will place modern furniture on the front porch, where we can relax and enjoy the view. The backyard will have enough space to hold a party and entertain at least fifty people. I have a huge family, and we are always hosting parties. I also want a pool in the backyard so that I can host pool parties.

The house will have plenty of large glass windows that will make the house bright and spacious. I will plan each detail of the interior of my house. I want it to be very modern and minimalistic. Bulky furniture, dark wallpapers, and bohemian décor is something that I do not want in my house.

Unnecessary furniture clutters the house and makes me claustrophobic. The hall and large living room should have enough space so that people can move around quickly. I want to have comfortable sofas and soft furry carpet on the floor. The kitchen should be large and neat, as I am fond of cooking and baking. It will be equipped with all the latest appliances to make the whole baking process more comfortable. I would love to cook for my family on weekends. We can all sit on the large wooden dining table and enjoy the scrumptious meal.

The bedrooms will have attached bathrooms. I want a rain shower and a bathtub in every bathroom in my house. The bedrooms will have king-size, cozy beds with linen sheets. Just like the house, I want the color of the beddings to be light. Unlike most of the houses, I would like to have a small home theatre in my bedroom. I am not a bookworm so I might turn the room that was meant to be a library in a proper movie theatre so that I can host movie nights.

My dream house will be warm and welcoming. I want it to be my happy place, away from all the hustle and bustle. It will fulfill my desire of living near nature. It would be a perfect place for me to relax after a tough day at work. I wish that one day I can build this house and live in it.

  • Fill it up with the best words that describe the dream house perfectly (avoid complex phrases or boring words).
  • Make an effective structure . It will give a proper sense to your topic (order your essay from general to specific to structure relevant information correctly).
  • Write a coherent and clear introduction or opening paragraph that serves as the establishment of major points and key ideas.
  • Write strong topic sentences. Include each one in a separate paragraph to let readers know what they will read about in every part of your paper.
  • Write body paragraphs. Each one should match a specific topic sentence. The main purpose of writing them is to prove that your arguments or ideas have a proper sense and you’re right about a particular issue.
  • Share some interesting details. Look at the table filled up with details about all senses to provoke important associations in the audience to let them better understand your idea.
  • Write a logical and coherent conclusion. It should summarize everything discussed on other sections, provoke readers to further discussions, restate your thesis, or include a call to action. Make it as strong as possible.

After taking all the above-mentioned steps , it’s necessary to proofread and edit your final draft to make sure that it’s free from grammar errors, typos, and other mistakes. Outside the House

The outside of my dream house would be just as important as the inside. It would have a big garden with lots of flowers, fruit trees, and a small vegetable patch. There would be a swing and a slide for kids to play on, and a nice patio where my family could eat meals outside when the weather is good.

My dream house might not be a huge mansion, but it’s perfect for me. It’s a place where my family can be together, laugh, and enjoy life. It’s not just the size or the fancy things that make a house a dream home. It’s the love and memories that you create inside it. My dream house is a place where I can grow up, learn, and be happy. It’s a simple place, but it’s filled with everything that matters to me and my family.

Dream House Essay

Living in a beautiful, spacious, high-tech, and elegant house is one of my goals. One of my aspirations is to live in a big, comfortable, high-tech, and classy home that reflects my personality. In our life, a house is really essential since we spend the most of it indoors and it must make you feel at ease.

My dream house should have at least six bedrooms, five bathrooms, a big kitchen with a lot of storage space and a huge living room with a beautiful view.

My dream house should be located in the countryside where it is peaceful and surrounded by nature. I would love to have a big garden with a lot of flowers and trees. There should also be a swimming pool and a tennis court.

The inside of the house should be decorated with modern furniture and there should be a lot of natural light. The rooms should be spacious and bright.

I think that having a dream house is very important because it gives you something to aim for in life. It is a great motivator and it can help you stay focused on your goals. Having a beautiful and comfortable home is something that everyone deserves.

In my opinion, the minimalist style is best for homes in which simplicity and elegance are required. I’ll employ a minimalist design and utilize a lot of glass to save money. Because I believe it’s more convenient to live in a housing development than on major roads, my ideal house will be located in an exclusive housing neighborhood. The view of the beach from behind my home will be incorporated into my house, so I can hear the sound of the waves each morning.

My house will have a big living room with a fireplace, so I can invite my friends over to hang out. My house will also have a movie theater, so we can watch movies together. My dream house will also have a big kitchen with a lot of space to cook and bake.

My favourite part of the house would be the bedroom, because it is my own personal space where I can relax and sleep. The bedroom will have a big bed, and a TV so I can watch my favourite shows before going to bed. My dream house will be perfect for me and my family, and we will all be very happy living there.

I can just go to my balcony and watch people snorkeling in the beach, or I may go down to the beach and begin snorkeling. Furthermore, because the housing area for my ideal employment is clean and not everyone is allowed inside, it is peaceful. The outside design is basic and made mostly of glass, so we don’t need to use any power in the morning.

Also, there are a lot of trees around which can give us fresh air. The last thing that I want in my dream house is a big garage because I love cars. So, those are the things that I want in my dream house.

The large home with a lot of windows would allow you to feel the wind from the ocean. A swimming pool will be on top of the residence, allowing me to cool off if the sun is becoming too hot. The house will have a vast garden full of trees and flowers. The flower would give the home a tropical flavor. In the garden there would be a small pond that has fishes in it. In the front of my house I want there to be a lot of trees and plants so that it looks like an mini forest.

The living room will have a chandelier and it will be very spacious. There will be a big T.V in the living room so that when family members or friends come over we can watch movies together. The kitchen will also be very big and comfortable so that whenever I have parties at my house everyone can fit in and enjoy themselves. My dream house is not only about having nice things, but also about feeling good when you’re inside it. So, overall I just want my dream house to be a place where I can feel happy, safe and at peace.

There would be a lot of empty area at the backyard, which could be used for a party and also as an extra garage because I enjoy collecting automobiles. Because white is clean and fits minimalist design, I picked white to be painted throughout the walls of the home’s interior. A movie room, two play rooms, and a living room for guests will be on the first floor. The kitchen would be modern, with access from the dining area.

The second floor would have more bedrooms, which will be larger and more luxurious, with a bathroom for each room. The master bedroom suite would be very spacious with a walk-in closet and an en suite bathroom with both a shower and tub. My dream house would be complete with a swimming pool, where I could relax after a long day. I hope to someday own the home of my dreams and live happily ever after.

In conclusion, I want my dream house to stand out among other homes because of the environment I create, design, and excellent lighting at night will attract everyone’s attention when they drive by. Most significantly, my ideal home must provide me with a sense of gratification since all of the hard work has been rewarded.

House on Mango Street Essay

Often in literature, authors create plot by writing about characters maturing throughout the story. One work that explores childhood to adulthood is The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. In this novella, Esperanza Cordero is a young girl who lives in a poverty stricken area in Chicago. During the story, Esperanza grows up from being an adolescent to a young adult. In the novella, the theme is that losing innocence brings about maturity. Cisneros expresses Esperanza growing up by juxtaposing vignettes. Tone is also used to enhance the change in Esperanza’s thoughts while maturing. Both the juxtaposition of vignettes and tone support the theme that the loss of innocence and the gaining of

The story; themes; and implications for teaching from the House on Mango Street come from showing how today’s society has low expectations for those in the inner city. This book can be used to show what inner life is like and how these people are looked at and treated by others in society. Using this book in the classroom can be beneficial because many people have negative preconceptions of what life is really like as a minority. I know that I think of inner city schools and the students that attend them as underprivileged and don’t hold them to the same standards as I do others from smaller more suburban towns. Going to Milwaukee this semester has been a culture shock and I think that reading this book

Esperanza is torn between deciding whether she wants to escape Mango Street. She is embarrassed by the superficial appearance of her identity, but appreciates her roots. Her house is a wreck and the neighborhood, probably not much better off. However, she has loving family and friends.

Personal Narrative: My Hamlet

To start, my dream home would consist of multiple houses to make a family village. My family relies on each other, and being in different counties or even states makes it a lot harder to assist each other. We all have different size families, as well. Therefore living in a circuit of mansions would be a wise way to accommodate everyone. These mansions would be separated from the outer world by a 100-yard deep forest. There would be either a heated

Descriptive Essay On The Glass Castle

When choosing what to put in my house I thought of the of my favorite hobbies and things that I would love to have in my own house, after brainstorming I made sure to add a study/library, a music room, a home theater, an art room, and of course, a hot tub. I don’t have a specific favorite room, but my favorite is tied between the art room between and the study/library. The art room is a favorite of mine because in my vision of it I would have all the expensive pencils, paints, and tools. The study is also a favorite of mine because I love to read and write. I would most likely spend more than 75% of my time in their whenever I’m not a work. Since I was a little kid the amount of books I own has always been an inconvenience. I always run out of space on my bookshelf and I have to start stacking, which leads to books being in random places of my room and left around the house. I would have broad floor to ceiling bookcases, hopefully I’d never have to worry about running out of space again.

The design of the rooms is very unique like everything has been put in a place for a reason. The oldest think i can remember here is the sofa which i bought 2 years ago. I remember when we first bought it, the smile on my face and the arguing between my dad and brother. "Go left, Go left" he would yell. Ahh good times. It used to be clean but the constant food i would eat on it could have changed that. Like most teenagers i have many posters on my walls mostly of role models that I admire, favourite teams and a few cute girls here and there. Horror Around the Campfire. As a child, Machado loved retelling horror stories, especially ones she’d read in Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark , around the fire at Girl Scouts camp. This marked the beginning of her love for the horror genre.

WBZ-TV anchor leaves his dream job, and pens an essay about it

Liam Martin just walked away from his dream job: TV anchor, at WBZ-TV . Not only did he walk away, Martin decided to publish why he did it, with a Boston magazine essay .

In that essay, Martin details his own emotional struggles, not to mention the physical challenge of waking up at 2:15 a.m. for the morning shift. He previously worked an evening shift, but that meant barely seeing his two young children. The move to the morning shift meant he was often too tired to be truly present for them.

So he left the news business completely, joining former NBCUniversal newscaster Jackie Bruno as a partner in her PR and communications business, Newsmaker Marketing , along with third partner Rachel Robbins , formerly with Greenough Communications . (Bruno penned a similarly themed essay for Boston magazine a year ago.)

Martin decided to write it in part because men often don’t feel comfortable talking about mental health issues or the struggles of balancing family and work. The response, he said, has been overwhelming.

He still gets to tell stories, but in a different way. For example, he just spent a day in New Hampshire working on a documentary-style video about Cyclyx , a plastics recycling company.

Martin misses the rush of the newsroom. But he’s also glad to no longer be in it.

“I miss the people at WBZ-TV,” Martin said. “I do not miss having to be in the know all the time about everything.”

This is an installment of our weekly Bold Types column, which runs in print every Tuesday.

Half Penny Public House in south Salem changes hands as owner retires after 15 years

essay about dreams house

The Half Penny Public House is under new ownership after 15 years. The south Salem pub and restaurant is now owned by couple Wende Bennette-Kirkland and James Kirkland.

Monty Miller opened the Half Penny in 2009, and the restaurant and bar has been a staple since. It is known for its weekly dinner deals, live music, weekend breakfast and St. Patrick's Day celebrations.

Miller said he's been at the Half Penny 24/7, seven days a week for 15 years and realized over the last few years it was time for a change.

"I had things happen that made me reevaluate my personal time and those feelings became stronger and stronger but I knew I couldn't just walk away from this place ," Miller said, "... There was no balance for me, I'm an all-or-nothing guy, so this past year it really hit me."

Miller and Wende had actually known and worked with each other at what was formerly The Point in the '90s, in the space currently occupied by the Night Deposit Whiskey Library. Miller was a bartender, while Wende was a waitress and learned how to make drinks from him.

The two didn't stay in close contact, occasionally running into each other around town.

Wende said an exchange a year ago led to a serious discussion about buying the pub. She had stopped at the Half Penny for breakfast and spotted Miller. As the two caught up, she said she offhandedly asked him if he was selling.

"He cocked his head and said 'really?'" Wende said. "I laughed and said 'yes, this place is great!' A few months later, he swung by my place and asked if I was still interested."

Miller said her interest stuck with him, but once he reached out, the process slowly began. The transition of ownership took a while, with the Kirklands officially taking over in February, but Miller said he's grateful to have found a team as great as them.

"I felt like I was trying to adopt this baby and hoping everything goes just right so I can have this thing that has been my dream," Wende said. "Now, it's come true."

Resurfaced and realized dreams

The Kirklands are native Salemites, North Salem High School alums and have been married for six years.

Wende has worked in the service industry her entire life at various restaurants and bars. Her dream had always been to have a restaurant.

In 2008 she was hired as a winery ambassador at Willamette Valley Vineyards. She shelved her restaurant dreams, thinking she would eventually retire from the winery. But like many, the pandemic changed her role. Forced to work remotely, she yearned to be back in service and working with people. She left the job on her 16th anniversary with the winery.

James has a background in IT and electrical work and doesn't have food service experience. Wende said his background with equipment and technology has been indispensable at the restaurant, and their "yin and yang" skillsets are what make the operation possible.

"He is feeding my dream," Wende said. "He's doesn't just believe in me but he's impressed, and it's been a beautiful experience for our marriage ... I would've never believed I could do this with a partner and have them love it too."

She wants to reassure folks the menu, staff and operations will not change, save for improvements in functionality and potentially a fresh coat of paint.

From flipping burgers to bar management

Miller said it's bittersweet to be stepping away after working in the industry in Salem for 40 years. His career began at age 15 at the Burger King across the street from the Half Penny.

Prior to operating the Half Penny, Miller had worked at RAM Restaurant & Brewery, McMenamins Thompson Brewery & Public House, The Oasis, The Point, Jonathan's, West Side Tap House, McNary Golf Club and DaVinci's. He had 20 years of bartending experience before opening the Half Penny.

One of his proudest achievements is never having had a drink at his own bar, Miller said. This year marks his 18th sober.

The name Half Penny Public House is from Miller's time traveling in Europe when he was 20. He found himself in Dublin and out of money, but loved the town so much he began his first bartending job. On his route he had to cross the Ha'penny Bridge, which is what Miller ended up naming the public house. A photo of it hangs inside.

Miller began the Half Penny on a dare by his former business partner. While fishing in Belize for his 40th birthday, he got a call the space was available. He said there was no distinct "concept," as many restaurants have, but he just worked to provide good service.

Many know the spot for it's too-good-to-be-true nightly deals like "a buck a bone" ribs, which will continue under the new ownership.

Miller said St. Patrick's Day celebrations are some of his favorite memories, as he felt like "king for a day." The pub would be full of people, folks happily eating from the special Irish menu and listening to bagpipers, he said.

Some of his most "powerful" memories, where he learned about himself, the business and community, were through the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said he dislikes saying he's retiring and prefers to say he's "stepping away." With his newfound free time, Miller said he will do more outdoor activities, spend time with family and travel — including a fishing trip to Belize, at some point.

10 "it was just a dream" twists in tv shows that actually worked.

Revealing that some events took place within one character’s mind is one of the most hated tropes in TV, but there are still ways of making it work.

  • Dream reveals in TV can tank a show's credibility and cheapen storylines, but some episodes execute it well to subvert expectations.
  • Successful dream episodes have real impact on the plot, reveal character details, and keep the stakes high.
  • While dream reveals are often criticized, when done right, they can add layers of complexity and reveal hidden truths about characters.

The classic "it was all a dream" trope is one of the most hated and mocked storytelling crutches in TV, but there are some episodes which manage to pull it off brilliantly. The problem with the trope is that it cheapens everything that comes before it, by revealing that the events ultimately have no bearing on the plot. Also, it tanks a show's credibility, because audiences no longer feel they can trust what they see.

Dallas infamously retconned an entire season by revealing it was just a dream, and other shows like Grey's Anatomy and Doctor Who have had mixed success with this technique. However, like all tropes, there are ways of using it well. Comedy shows tend to have the best success rate, because they can poke fun at the idea and it doesn't matter as much if an episode doesn't advance the plot, but drama shows ocasionally have success with it too.

10 Mr. Smithers Dreams That Mr. Burns Is Alive

The simpsons s7, e1, "who shot mr. burns part two".

*Availability in US

Not available

"Who Shot Mr. Burns?" set up the biggest cliffhanger in the history of The Simpsons . When the show returned for its seventh season, there was a lot of fan speculation about who could be guilty, so the writers immediately subverted this mystery. The show opens with Mr. Smithers waking up to discover that Mr. Burns is alive and well, but this is just a dream. After his dream spins off into a bizarre detective show about hotrod racers, he wakes up to brutal reality.

Mr. Smithers is a big suspect in The Simpsons' "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" mystery , so opening the episode with him suggests that his bad dreams may be caused by guilt. His dream about Mr. Burns is a false reverse, a technique The Simpsons would use multiple times. For example, in the season 6 episode, "Lisa's Rival" Lisa wakes up to find that Allison has bested her in a saxophone competition. She screams in terror and wakes up from her nightmare, only to discover that Allison really has won.

9 A Trip Into Dr. House's Subconscious Reveals Hidden Depths

House s2, e24, "no reason".

The reason this story works where other dream episodes fail is that the events of the dream have a real bearing on the world outside of it.

House has a few dream sequences, and it's usually fairly easy to tell what's real and what isn't. If Dr. House walks without a limp, then it's all inside his head. This is used to shocking effect when his house explodes and he dies, only for him to suddenly wake up. "No Reason" stands out because it is one of the first episodes which takes a dive into House's subconscious, and it toys with the audience a lot more.

Throughout season 2's finale, it's unclear just how much of the plot takes place in House's dreams. The reason this story works where other dream episodes fail is that the events of the dream have a real bearing on the world outside of it. Also, the dream reveals a lot about House's inner world that remained a mystery up to that point. He presents a facade as cocky and self-righteous, but his dream shows that he struggles with insecurity and fear more than he lets on. The man who shot him acts as the devil on his shoulder in the dream.

8 Cooper's Horror Experience Is All In His Head

Black mirror s3, e2, "playtest".

"Playtest" starts with an American tourist in Europe who decides to earn some extra cash by taking part in an experimental virtual reality gaming system. The first level consists of a simple game with a small woodland critter who would look at home in Snow White, but Cooper then advances to the next level, an immersive horror experience which weaponizes his own deepest fears against him.

The dream reveal works so well in "Playtest" because it makes the horror even more disturbing , not less. Rather than Cooper's experiences being caused by a malfunctioning system, they are caused by a perfectly working machine with malevolent intent. The false reveal also works brilliantly, when it appears that Cooper is pulled out of the game. This extra twist ensures that "Playtest" remains one of Black Mirror 's best episodes .

7 Greendale Wasn't Really A Shared Delusion

Community s3, e19, "curriculum unavailable".

By creating a layer of separation, Community can highlight how absurd some of its plot contrivances are, and it can also mock other shows which use dream reveals in earnest.

Community pokes fun at the "it was all a dream" trope with its season 3 episode "Curriculum Unavailable". A psychiatrist manages to convince the study group that their entire experience at Greendale Community College was nothing more than a shared delusion, and that he may need to institutionalize them again, since they are relapsing. It doesn't take long for the study group to figure out he's lying to them in an attempt to keep them off campus.

"Curriculum Unavailable" is Community 's way of deconstructing some of the common tropes and logical fallacies of sitcoms, and specifically the show itself. The study group are shown in a mental hospital acting out past episodes and babbling to themselves. By creating a layer of separation, Community can highlight how absurd some of its plot contrivances are, and it can also mock other shows which use dream reveals in earnest.

6 The Gang's Race-Swapping Adventure Takes Place In Someone Else's Dream

It's always sunny in philadelphia s12, e1, "the gang turns black".

"The Gang Turns Black" is one of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia 's most experimental episodes . The entire plot takes place within the dream of Carl, who the gang only refer to as "Old Black Man," and it reveals a lot about his life before he became just the old man who sleeps in the same bed as Dennis, Mac and Dee. His dream envisions a fantastical scenario in which the gang find themselves magically transformed into Black people.

The race-swapping plot allows the gang to see the world from a different perspective, so it's important to reveal this is just a dream, otherwise it's possible that they could learn some kind of moral lesson. This would go against what It's Always Sunny is about. The fantasy and musical elements of the episode also wouldn't make sense in the tone of the show, which usually devolves into shouting matches and insults.

5 Finn Can't Escape King Worm's Nightmare

Adventure time s4, e18, "king worm".

Usually, when a TV show reveals that a story was all a dream, it destroys the stakes, but "King Worm" raises the stakes, because it shows that waking up is no escape.

Adventure Time has a lot of terrifying episodes for a children's show. "King Worm" still stands out as one of its most insidious horrors, because the danger is coming from within Finn's mind, and King Worm can use his fears against him. King Worm aims to trap Finn inside a nightmare for as long as possible so that he can drain his life energy. Ultimately, Finn can only overcome King Worm by shattering his dream world by confronting his fears and insecurities.

The dream reveal works so well in "King Worm" because it subverts the usual formula. Usually, when a TV show reveals that a story was all a dream, it destroys the stakes, but "King Worm" raises the stakes, because it shows that waking up is no escape. There is nowhere for Finn to run, and with King Worm creeping deeper into his subconscious, it also seems as though he won't be able to fight his way out.

4 Jerry Doesn't Get Gunned Down

Seinfeld s2, e10, "the baby shower".

Seinfeld uses a dream sequence to reveal Jerry's neurotic fears in "The Baby Shower". When he agrees to Kramer's plea to let two shady individuals install illegal cable in his apartment, he has a nightmare of being hunted down and killed by the FBI. The dream reveal is the ultimate punch line to the joke, as Jerry's ridiculous fantasies highlight his paranoia.

Jerry's nightmare is a parody of the "it was all a dream" trope , and it also pokes fun at hard-boiled crime shows with spectacular shoot-outs. Since Jerry doesn't tend to take anything in his life seriously, he can only see any potential troubles through the lens of movies and TV, rather than by relating them to any actual hardships he has faced. In this way, the dream reveal underlines Jerry's immature nature, as well as being one of the show's more memorable scenes.

3 J.D. Can't Escape Into His Daydreams

Scrubs s1, e22, "my occurence".

Rather than the daydreams being used to add some levity to the show, "My Occurence" flips this technique by having J.D. retreat further into his fantasy world to avoid the uncomfortable truth.

Scrubs frequently dips into J.D.'s daydreams. He uses his childish fantasies as a way to entertain himself and cope with the stresses of working in a hospital, but the season 1 episode "My Occurence" takes this to extreme lengths. When Dr. Cox's friend is admitted to Sacred Heart with what seems like a minor injury, J.D. eventually has to deliver the bad news that things are much worse than they first feared.

Rather than the daydreams being used to add some levity to the show, "My Occurence" flips this technique by having J.D. retreat further into his fantasy world to avoid the uncomfortable truth. Most of the episode is revealed to be one extended daydream, but ultimately J.D. finds that he can't escape the reality of what is happening to Dr. Cox's friend. His most reliable coping mechanism can only do so much for him.

2 Professor Farnsworth Can Only Dream Of Inventing The Finglonger

Futurama s2, e16, "anthology of interest part i".

Futurama 's anthology episodes envision different hypothetical scenarios, all made possible by Professor Farnsworth's what-if machine, a device that can simulate any potential situation. While it's clear that each of the tales are merely simulations, the end of "Anthology of Interest Part I" reveals a hidden layer. The entire episode takes place within a hypothetical situation in which Professor Farnsworth develops the "finglonger," a glove with one very long finger.

The Professor sees his what-if machine as fairly ordinary, and none of his other inventions, such as the smelloscope or his doomsday devices, seem to excite him as much as the finglonger. The finglonger is the most simplistic of them all, but it remains out of reach for some reason. The reveal works on more than one level, as the crew's excitement over the finglonger in the simulation suggests that the what-if machine is calibrated to the Professor's warped perspective. In reality, nobody would care if he made a glove with a long finger.

The Twilight Zone is notorious for its dream episodes, so it makes sense that the very first episode is revealed to be a hallucination.

The Twilight Zone is notorious for its dream episodes, so it makes sense that the very first episode is revealed to be a hallucination. Out of all the show's episodes which take place in a dream, "Where is Everybody?" is one that works extremely well. The key is that waking up does not put an end to the aspiring astronaut's terror. It merely reveals that he now knows what horrors he's in for.

"Where is Everybody?" is one of The Twilight Zone 's best episodes . It follows a man with amnesia exploring an empty town, but everywhere he goes it seems as though people have just left seconds before his arrival. The mystery begins to toy with his emotions as he feels as if he's chasing ghosts. In the end, it's revealed that he's an astronaut in training, and the town is no more than an induced hallucination to test how he might react to the stresses of prolonged isolation in space travel.

Long Essay On My Dream House 500 Words In English

If I were to choose and describe my dream house, I would choose a house according to my personality. It helps people to get an impression about you, and this leaves a long-lasting effect on others.

I would love a house in Frankton, Indiana. There are so many reasons why I love this area. It quiet, and there are not many people around this locality. Everything is within walking distance, and that is where I have grown up. These are some of the reasons why I would love to stay in this rural community.

I love gardening, and having a yard full of trees and plants has been my dream. Freshly bloomed flowers cast a magic spell on me, and I am relaxed when I see it. I would like to have a little treehouse for my kids to play in.

For my living room, I would like a cozy setup. The living room would have a plasma screen television paired with a black leather couch, a white rug, and two recliners. I would love a beautiful wooden finished dark floor—a coffee table, preferably black colour, with white coasters. As I am a plant fanatic, I love succulents and indoor plants. A mini cactus sitting directly in the middle of the table.

I would love to imagine a little hallway and a little bit of a staircase that would lead to the kitchen and dining room. I love ceramic wares, and I want the utensils to be aesthetic. A beautiful granite island top table in the kitchen with some small plants in ceramic bowls would be the perfect set up.

I look to cook, and I would love to invite my full family for dinner, and we would sit around this long skinny table and have a laugh while enjoying the meal.

It was a childhood dream on mine to have a fully furnished basement that people would easily mistake for a bedroom—a movie screen, with a superb sound system. There must be space in the basement where my dogs would run around and play. A bunk bed would be beautiful for the kids to enjoy.

In my garage, I want to have enough room for my car and my two-wheeler. I would also like to do my laundry in the garage, as the garage offers the ideal space one needs to do their laundry.

Coming to the main rooms, I want a study, where my books for study, books for reading in my free time, CDs of my movie collection would be kept. There must be a cozy corner in that room, where there will be a small couch by the window, where I can relax and spend my own sweet time.

The bedroom will be sweet and, with a queen-size bed and a lot of pillows, I have no such specifications about it. Just an addition to my bedroom would be a tiny bed for my dogs.

All in all, I want a sober and peaceful house where I can turn into a home.

Short Essay On My Dream House 150 Words In English

I want to build a dream house with a garden where I can grow my fruits and vegetables.

I want a spacious living room with four other rooms which can be used as bedrooms and a study room. One bedroom will be there for my grandparents and the other one for my parents.

My bedroom must have a very comfortable bed where I can relax. It would also be nice to have a PlayStation in my room. My room should be brightly colored, and on the walls, my favorite cartoon characters should be drawn.

For the living room, there must be a giant television where we can watch movies together. I also wish to have a pet cat or a pet dog, so there must be an area for them in my dream house.

Overall, my dream house is a house where my family, along with my pets, and I can live happily.

essay about dreams house

Now streaming on:

A strange and memorable but not entirely successful film, "Sweet Dreams" turns colonialism into a source of pitch-black slapstick comedy.

Written and directed by  Ena Sendijarević , the film is set in 1900 on a small and obscure Indonesian island, where a sugar plantation baron named Jan ( Hans Dagelet ) has apparently died. "Apparently" meaning that, as far as most of the characters know, he's almost certainly dead, but they don't have a body. This complicates the inevitable battle to figure out who will control the plantation and determine what becomes of it. The setup could've been the start of a murder mystery, but Sendijarević isn't interested in playing those sorts of (enjoyable!) narrative games. Nearly every story point in the film is given to you right away or foreshadowed/telegraphed. What remains is the hows of storytelling and the whys of characterization.

The most important fact in play is that Jan has a young son named Karel ( Rio Kaj Den Haas ) by way of his illicit relationship with an Indonesia plantation worker named Siti ( Hayati Azis ). When the old man dies, his son Cornelis ( Florian Myjer ) and his pregnant wife Josefien ( Lisa Zweerman ) leave the Netherlands to sail around the world to join his widow Agathe ( Renée Soutendijk ) in the muddy jungle to figure out what happens next. What happens next is anger, resentment, and skullduggery, triggered by the revelation that Jan has decided to leave everything to Karel. Grief drives people to extreme behavior. Grief coupled with an expectation of wealth kicks things up a notch, into danger and derangement. A plantation worker named Reza ( Muhammad Khan ) has been agitating on behalf of his fellow workers and even inspired them to go on strike over nonpayment of wages. He becomes a key player in the story, positioning himself as someone who will not only take the fight to The Man (and his women) but also charm Siti into leaving with Karel and starting a new life as his partner.

The movie is, alas, thuddingly obvious during its first third. Every basic observation about the absurdities and evils of colonialism is not just presented but practically served up on a silver platter under a spotlight. A cockroach crawls through the remnants of a fancy family dinner. Josefien (Lisa Zweerman) disembarks from a carriage that's gotten stuck in on a wet road and the movie takes its time observing her fancy boots getting dirty in the mud. It's not that anything the movie is telling us rings false, but that it's all things we probably already knew yet are nonetheless presented as subversive and audacious.

Things start to get interesting when Jan posthumously acknowledges in writing that he's had a son with his mistress, and that the lad will inherit everything. After that, "Sweet Dreams" becomes something faintly akin to a Coen brothers movie in which obtuse, deluded, and/or repulsive people plot against each other and get what they deserve, whether because the insular world that previously overlooked their obvious flaws collectively decides to pay attention and pass judgment, or because characters who believe they're ruthless or clever turn out to be cowardly and/or stupid.

As directed by Sendijarević, shot by  Emo Weemhoff and edited by  Lot Rossmark , "Sweet Dreams" is aestheticized within a millimeter of its life. The movie is shot in the squarish, 4x3 "Academy" ratio, mostly through wide-angle lenses that cartoonishly distort people and objects (especially when the camera shifts position quickly). Almost every establishing shot is symmetrically framed, not in the manner of a  Stanley Kubrick or Wes Anderson , but fetishistic fan art inspired by them. Objects and people within each shot are arranged like elements in a glassed-in art installation. The movie is a zoo with people in it. The movie observes its characters with coldly analytical, often withering precision, up to a point.

Then it all finally gives way to something more overtly lyrical and even dreamlike. The film seems to lose interest in satire and slapstick and takes more detours to present a startling, odd, often beautiful image or situation (often one involving the elemental forces: water, fire, wind, and soil). The story doesn't so much end as stop, but only after delivering a series of moments and set pieces that are shot and edited (in one case, cross-cut) with a mysterious yet unexplained deliberateness that is a hallmark of expressionistic modern art.

Some of the flights of fancy in the final twenty minutes are so beautiful that they retroactively make the earlier parts of the film seem like an overbearing warmup to what's truly special and memorable about the project. There's a very long take near the end that's as surprising and excessive-yet-perfect as one in David Lynch and Mark Frost's "Twin Peaks: The Return" where a man mops an entire bar floor while Booker T. and the MGs' "Green Onion" plays out at full length. It could be that this is a filmmaker who becomes more vital and unique the more deeply she plugs into her subconscious and the more completely she surrenders to it.
